I want to stay there on our 2012 trip, I made the mistake of telling Erich about AKL concierge and the Sunrise Safari. Now he thinks we should stay there instead of the Poly.

I was so pleased with all the border options this year, a lot more than in 08 and 07.
My feet will be a recurring theme throughout this report. :headache:

I think I would like to stay at all the resorts except for :
1) Contemporary (unless I had a MK tower view and somebody else was paying)
2) POFQ
3) All-Stars (looks pretty much the same as POP but older and smaller food court etc.)
4) Ft. Wilderness - I don't really do "camping"
All other resorts area a go for me

I have very low self-esteem when it comes to my appearance, I can't help but be hard on myself.
Riding at the front of the monorail was fun, especially since it was a surprise and not something that we asked for.

That is how I felt about the Contemporary, it didn't have any kind of personality. I have stayed at a Hilton and a Holiday Inn that had more personality than the Contemporary. I guess my beef with it is that if you are dishing out the kind of money that they charge for their rooms it should be a little more magical. It has its die-hard fans though so I guess it can't be all bad. :confused3

Really? I think Pop is pretty spread out as well, just spread out in a more linear fashion whereas the others sort of curve and wind around. The nice thing about the deluxe resorts is that everything is under one roof like at AKL and WL or requires minimum time outside to get from building to building. This is especially nice when it rains. I also am a big fan of the indoor corridors, makes me feel a bit safer.

Hi, Lessa!
That drink looks SOOO yummy! Do you know what it's made of? It looks a lot like the Bon Voyage drink that we had on our last cruise (it was a half Pina Colada and half Strawberry Daquiri). Ever since then, it's become my VERY favorite drink. Of course it's called something different everywhere you go. I had one at Planet Hollywood, and it was called a "Legally Blonde". I sure hope they have them on the ship again, and if the one you had happens to be the same drink, then I'm definitely going to be visiting the Poly for more than just to eat at 'Ohana!!!
Loving the TR by the way...You're pictures are great...I always love reading what you write. Can't wait to see more!:thumbsup2

So I have been a bad reporter, I completely forgot about a fun little encounter we had earlier in the day! So rewind back to when Mom and I were walking through Tomorrowland towards Buzz Lightyear.
Mom and I were walking along when we spied a crowd gathered around a trash can laughing. I soon realized that it was PUSH! Mom and I got closer to watch, it was hilarious! I was able to get a small bit of video of him.
PUSH, The Talking Trash Can (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k11bfxSRo9I)
Okay now lets Fast Forward back to Mom and I enjoying our delicious beverages in the Tambu Lounge.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3156.jpg
It was so nice taking a break and enjoying a nice drink, certainly a welcome relief for my poor feet. I could already tell that that I had a blister forming thanks to my poor shoe choice the day before and all the water today. :sad2: I have never before gotten a blister at WDW, it is not fun!
After finishing our drinks Mom and I went and browsed around the gift shops for a bit.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3157.jpg
Then we went and hopped back onto the monorail and made our way over to the Grand Floridian.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3160.jpg
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3161.jpg
First we made a stop in Basin where we smelt all the lovely scented soaps. Mom ended up buying a bunch of soaps, bath salts and bath bombs.
Then we went downstairs and relaxed on one of the comfy couches for a while. The band was playing up on the second floor so it was a very nice and relaxing atmosphere and once again it served the purpose of getting me off my feet. They were hurting so bad at this point in the day that my Crocs were pretty much useless in providing any comfort and I could not stand to be on my feet for even a short period of time.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3163.jpg
Mom and I had a dinner reservation at The Plaza Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom for 7pm. I was now getting close to 6 so we decided to head back to the park and see if we could check-in early.
When we arrived at the podium they said that they would check us in but we still probably would not be able to get seated until our ADR time as they were very busy. We said we would like to check-in anyways as there was always the chance we would get seated earlier.
They handed us a buzzer and told us that it would work up and down Main St but no further. That was fine with us as we were only planning on browsing through the shops anyways.
Buzzer in hand we went and wandered around the stores. Of course as was the theme that evening I soon had to sit down and get off my feet. :headache:
We sat down in the quiet street that juts off of Main St. There was nobody back there at all, it was like we were all alone in the park.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3169.jpg
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3170.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3172.jpg
As we were sitting there we heard singing coming from somewhere. We looked around and realized it was coming from one of the windows that was marked Voice Lessons, what a neat touch! After the singing lesson we then heard some tap dancing as the studio also offered dance lessons. I love Disney, they are all about the details, most of the time you wouldn't even notice these small touches but they do them anyway and it is always a thrill when you discover something new. :thumbsup2
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3173.jpg
It was getting close to 7pm so we knew that we would get buzzed any moment so we made our way back to the restaurant and sat outside. We only had to wait a few more minutes before we were buzzed, almost exactly at 7pm which was our original ADR time.
The Plaza is such a lovely restaurant. It is very small though so can not accommodate a lot of people.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3174.jpg
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3178.jpg
Mom ordered The Plaza Club - smoked ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise layered on toasted multi-grain bread
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3179.jpg
I had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich - grilled chicken breast topped with shaved ham and swiss cheese served on a flour-dusted Kaiser
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3180.jpg
:cloud9:
So good, so good, SO GOOD! I could have eaten that for dinner every night and would have been in heaven. So so yummy.
After eating every last bite of my sandwich I was full but I knew that I had to have dessert as well. Mom opted out of dessert. :sad2:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D3181.jpg
:cloud9:
The cheesecake was super delicious as well.
Our meal at The Plaza was fantastic! One of the best meals of the trip, I will definitely be going back again. My official review of The Plaza: Yummy, Yummy, Yummy!
It was drizzling as we left the restaurant. The original plan was to stay in the park to watch Spectro and Wishes. My feet just couldn't take it though and it was raining so who knew if the shows would even happen that night.
We made a stop in the Main St Bakery before leaving, I wanted to get one of their famous cinnamon rolls to eat for breakfast in the morning. It was huge! I had them put it in a to go container for me and then we were on our way out of the park.
Silly me made a mistake at this point. We walked on out through the turnstyles and bag check and then realized that the Express monorail to the TTC was actually inside past bag check. Doh!
I didn't want to take my poncho off to have my bag checked so we just decided that we would take the resort monorail. It would take a bit longer but would get us to our destination.
While waiting for the monorail a CM came up to me and told me jokingly that no food was allowed on the monorail and that he would have to confiscate my cinnamon roll! :scared1: Oh no you don't! I held onto that thing like my life depended on it and we had a little tug of war, each of us with a firm grip on it pulling it towards oursleves. He must have really wanted my cinnamon roll. :lmao:
The monorail arrived and I was able to depart cinnamon roll in hand. ;)
When we got back to the room I kicked my shoes off and jumped up on the bed and sprawled out. Sweet relief! The room was nice and toasty warm as mom and I had turned the ac off the night before. A nice warm room was just what I needed after a long wet day in the park.
I examined my feet and sure enough I had a nice big blister on my right foot and a smaller one on my left foot. Curse those stupid flip-flops! I also noticed that the rash was even worse than the day before. It was all over my arms, legs and even on part of my back and neck!
Mom and I decided that we would leave the room a bit early the next day and go find a drug store and buy some Benadryl hoping that that would help.
All cleaned up and in our pj's we settled down in our beds and watched a bit of tv before passing out for the night. I think it was the season finale of Without a Trace?
I feel asleep about halfway through the show so I never did get to see how it ended.

I tried to not let my feet ruin the trip, it just meant a change of pace, stopping more to sit and relax which was nice as we got to take in things we had never seen before like that little side street and the musical window. :thumbsup2
I think the flip flops from the day before had made my feet really tender and then combined with walking around in all the rain that day caused the blister to form. If there hadn't been the rain the blister probably never would have happened, at least not to the same degree that it did.

That is the great thing about having been a couple times and knowing that you will be coming back, you don't have that impulse to be constantly go,go,go. Instead you can slow down, relax and not feel guilty about just soaking in the atmosphere.
I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone who is looking at making an ADR in the MK. The food is excellent and there is something for everyone on the menu. :thumbsup2

Nope definitely not allergic to the sun, I sunbathe all the time here at home and never get a rash. It only showed up these past two trips to WDW....

Hi, I have to say that even with the day being as wet as it was Lessa and I had a great day, hey I rode Splash Mountain not once but three times as well as Thunder Mountain!!!.
I have to agree with Lessa, Disney knows how to create atmosphere at each turn, what I love must are the quiet out of way areas for one to seat back and relax for a bit, if you can't get back to the hotel; what has always surprised me, as how undiscovered they seem to be, as I have never seen anyone there. So it must be a well kept secret, I will never tell where my favorite quiet areas are;)
One of my favorite places to relax is at the Poly with a nice drink in hand, Lessa could not call me a lush, since she was partaking in some liquid refreshment as well :rotfl:the Grand Floridian is my second best place to relax with it grand scale elegance and ambience. I just love their bath shop they had a great sale going on that day, so while I was stocking up Lessa was taking some pictures of the lobby area. Once the spending spree was over Lessa and found a very comfortable couch and sat back and relaxed listening to the piano, it was so hard to ply ourselves off the cushions to head back over to the MK for our dinner reservations. I would love to stay here someday, not so sure about the Grimm Brothers, they seemed just a bit too relaxed and carefree on our visit a few years back. This is for you Rosie;)

Dinner was delicious, and I will certainly be eating here on our next trip. After dinner we headed back to our hotel, where we were in time to watch the two hour season finale of Criminal Minds, Groan.... I hate season finales and the cliffhangers.

We sat down in the quiet street that juts off of Main St. There was nobody back there at all, it was like we were all alone in the park.

:thumbsup2

Evening Lessa !!

Our wake-up call was nice and early since we were planning on tracking down a drugstore before hitting the Animal Kingdom.
Mom went down to the food court to fill the mug while I got ready for the day and munched on my cinnamon roll that I had bought the previous evening on Main St.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D4001.jpg
It was still pouring down rain so I skipped the sunscreen that day, no use putting it on when you are going to be wearing a poncho around all day. The past three years every time we go to AK it is raining!
Mom returned to the room with directions to a Walgreens. The gift shop gave her a card that had driving directions to all sorts of local destinations you might want to find such as malls, outlet stores, grocery stores and drug stores.
I had a little fit when I saw that the lid for the mug was missing. Mom said it must have blown off. I admit that I was a bit of a witch and "lectured" her about snapping it on and what good is a travel mug without a lid. Not my proudest moment. I am not a morning person at all so do not irritate me when I first wake up or I will probably blow up at you! :lmao: Mom has lived with me for almost 26 years now so I guess she is used to my morning tantrums. ;)
All dressed and ready for the day we braved the rain and made a mad dash to the car. Following the directions on the card we found a Walgreens no problem and to our delight there was a Publix right across the street. I was so glad to know where a grocery store other than Goodings was. Goodings is where we have always gone but it is expensive and well for being a tourist grocery store it doesn't look very nice. I am not only a hotel snob but a grocery store snob too. :snooty:
Mom and I browsed the allergy section and decided that I should not only get Benadryl in pill form but that I should also get the skin cream. The pills would come in handy even if they didn't clear the rash as Benadryl always puts me to sleep and I had not been sleeping well this trip.
I also picked up some blister bandaids and then some "Tough" bandaids to put over those for my feet. The blister bandaids were supposed to help heal the blister more quickly and I got the Tough bandaids because they claimed to be water resistant so I used those to over the blister one so that it would not rub off as easily.
Purchases in hand we made the short trip to the Animal Kingdom where we were very early for rope drop. There were only a few cars there before us. Before heading out into the rain I made sure to spread my Benadryl cream all over my arms and legs. I opted not to take the pills yet as I did not want to nod off in the middle of riding Expedition Everest. :lmao:
Ponchos on we made our way into the park.
Surprisingly they had a photopass photographer out so we grabbed a picture.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/Image253.jpg
We made our way right up to the rope on the left hand side so as to be closer to the path that leads to the safari. Unfortunately that gave us an obstructed view of the rope drop ceremony. Not that I could get really great pictures anyways as I was having to hold the camera in the sleeve of my poncho in an attempt to keep it dry while still taking pictures.

Mickey came out too but he was too far away in front of the Tree of Life so I could not get a picture of him.
As soon as the rope dropped we were on our way to the safari. This is always the first thing we do when at Animal Kingdom. We are creatures of habit.
We pretty much walked right on, no wait at all.

I believe it is considered a snack. Don't quote me on that though, we haven't used the dining plan since our 07 trip.
The pain was never really bad in the morning, but as they day went on it would get worse and worse. I have never had foot pain like that before and I hope I never do again. :sad2:
The rain, well we were used to it after being there during Fay last year. :rotfl: In fact 3 out of 4 trips it has been rainy.
December 1997 - rained and drizzled pretty much the whole week. We spent Christmas Day at Blizzard Beach since we were already getting wet anyways. I have vivid memories of watching the Christmas parade all huddled up in my yellow Mickey poncho as it rained down on us. We don't have a single sunny picture from that trip.
July 07 - It was nice pretty much the whole time aside from our Animal Kingdom day where it rained the whole time and then of course the usual afternoon thunder shower.
August 08 - Tropical Storm Fay
May 09 - Rain, rain, and more rain

 Thanks! It took some maneuvering to get it just right so that the camera would be covered and the poncho wouldn't be dropping into view and ruining the picture.
Last year we went in the morning and then again in the afternoon after the parade and saw more animals in the afternoon then in the morning. Again though it was raining so the heat wasn't making them hide in the shade.

Lessa you are not a bad luck charm, when it comes to rain, I have to say that the rain and cooler temp agreed with me and my MS. MS and heat do not agree with me, on our 2007 trip, the temp and humidity were quite high, and I had a lot of pain and difficulty walking, I would tell the kids, just let me know where you are heading and I will meet you there, unbeknownst to me the kids had plans to get me one of those motorized chairs if need be. So I actually enjoyed the temp and low humidity, don’t get me wrong the rain was a downer, and I had hoped for a bit more sun, at one point on our cruise I had a melt down over the rain, and if it would ever stop to bring out the sun for at least a few hours… more on this story once Lessa get to this on her TR.
I did buy Lessa a new travel mug, once we got back to the hotel that evening as I had lost the lid to her cup that morning, it was nice to have two cups anyway, one for each of us, as it did come in quite handy later in the trip.
Thank goodness Lessa has a mother who is a morning person, and who was up and out the door each morning to bring back Lessa breakfast in bed, ok, she was asleep in bed most mornings when I stepped out the door, once I was back to the room she was up, oh well I tried she has to give me credit for that at least.
Animal Kingdom is my favorite park followed by Epcot and MK and I would like to have some sun sometime when we visit, I am all in favor of staying concierge on a visit so that we can partake in the sunrise or sunset safari. I did have a FEW surprises for Lessa this rainy day at Animal Kingdom; I guess you will have to wait for Lessa to do another update.

If only I could train my brothers to fetch me drinks and breakfast in the morning. They are even worse than I am when it comes to waking up early.
I have seen the dessert party. The desserts looks good but I am upset they are using our Wishes spot to throw it! We loved sitting there to watch Wishes although that is where the RAT incident happened. ;) Not sure we would pay $20 each to sit there though.
 Well park opening was at 9 so I think we left the room at 7:30 meaning I woke up around 6:30. Yeah that was just a tad early for my liking. ;)
Yep, he was awake and "sitting" up. I only wish I had been able to get a non-blurry shot of him since that is so rare.
Yeah, cheaper than Goodings is good and it actually looks like a nice clean well-kept and well-stocked store unlike Goodings.
 No comment on the rhino pics? I know they are your favourite. ;)
Hey, I saw a Lessa-brother early at Everything Pop last year (however, by that point I had packed, eaten breakfast, showered and dropped $ in the gift shop). :cool2:
I'm impressed by how straight your hair stayed in the rain.

Evening Lessa !!
Hi Rosie!
I've been so swamped with trying to close my house, etc.
I've been reduced to lurking mode these past 2 weeks...........
Just wanted to pop in and say I'm loving the report and love your writing style as always.
Don't worry about it! Hope things calm down for you soon. :goodvibes
Lessa I wish it could have been more sunny for you. You've seen so much rain while visiting WDW. Would you even know how to react if the sun was shining with no clouds in sight?
All the food sounded and looked good. That cinnamon roll is on my list for this next trip. Plus the ice cream sandwich.

We were so happy when we arrived in Florida and it was beautiful and sunny. Too bad that only really lasted a day and half. At least each trip we get some sunshine if not a lot.

Hi Lessa, OUCH on the feet and rash:headache:
Ok no food on the monorail:confused: What about all the stuff people buy at the confectionary, you think some of that stuff was for taking home to friends and stuff.
For Sept I decided not use Garden Grocer and stop at the store on the way from Universal to checking in at BWV. FYI - On All Ears Net there is directions to food stores.
I haven't been to Goodings since 92 even back then the prices were:scared1:
Looking forward to more!

After our foray into the wild African savanna was over we made our way into the Pangani Forest to see what adventures may await us.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D4032.jpg
We were very lucky to happen upon the hippo habitat while the resident hippo was feeling in a social mood. I had never seen a hippo up close like that before, usually they are off at the back off the tank sleeping and thus you can't get a very good look at them. Today though she swam right up to the glass and swam around in front of us for quite a while. We spent a good amount of time watching her and taking pictures.

I think somebody needs a trip to the dentist!

After about 20 minutes of socializing and showing off she got tired of us and swam away.

After social hour with Ms Hippo we went on to visit with the gorillas. Turns out it was nap time.

Now I know I have had you all on tenterhooks wondering who this mysterious Royal was that we encountered in the Animal Kingdom. Sorry to disappoint but it was not Prince Harry or William but King Louie! :lmao:
Now I know Mom will get mad at me for posting these but I just about died of laughter when I reviewed our pictures after leaving our royal audience. Apparently she just couldn't figure out how to pose with King Louie and her confusion shows in the pictures that the character handler took with our camera.
Okay, so I guess I'll crouch down behind him and look like I am doing something dirty to him.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D4103.jpg
What the heck, he's standing up now what am I supposed to do

I give up
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D4105.jpg
I totally did not notice Mom's antics at the time as I was just making sure that I was smiling at the camera. Luckily for Mom the photopass photographer got more flattering pictures of her.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/Image257.jpg
The rain was still holding off so I suggested that we take advantage of that and head over to the Tree of Life for some pictures before it started up again.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/D4106.jpg
There were a couple families waiting for the photographer so we joined the line. Once again I got complimented on my Tink necklace! Many of the people we encountered who liked my necklace would just reach over and touch it or pick it up without even asking, I guess they have never heard of personal space....
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/Image259.jpg
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/Image263.jpg
I discovered on this trip that Mom does not know how to do fake scary/scared faces as she can't stop laughing. This happens in future pictures as well.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x292/cndnlesser/Image265.jpg
Then the photographer had us hold baby Simba.

The stand-by line said the wait was only 10 minutes so I grabbed some fastpasses and we got in line. Now I was not sure that Mom was actually going to ride, I thought she might chicken out at the last minute as she seemed to get nervous as we approached the loading area.
This was my first time in the stand-by queue and it was really neat! So detailed!

Good guess don’t you think???. I had completely forgotten about this character encounter. Blame it on old age, senior moment; as it was not a memorable moment in my life! I thought it was the most bizarre encounter, as I didn’t know what King Louie was doing??. Lessa get your mind out the gutter!!! The Bros are back!!!!:rotfl2:
Lessa Beware !!!:lmao:
:sad2: Erich probably just posted because I told him I posted silly pictures of Mom. :lmao:
Just joining in Lessa!! I'm all caught up--just wished that I could have seen the pics from most of the TR. I loved the few I did see, though!! It looks like you're having a great trip!! We were at WDW the same week. We were even in MK on Monday and AK on Tuesday. Can't wait to read more!!
Hi there! So sorry the pictures were down. :guilty: According to photobucket they should be back up and functioning today, I hope so!
How cool that we were in the same parks, maybe I got you in some of my pictures!
Nice update Lessa! I'm betting your mom rode EE!. Fun brush with Royalty! It will be hard to wait 'til Friday for an update - I may not see it until after the 10th, so go slow. Okay?;)
I'll try! ;)

Hi Lessa! Going to get caught up now. Have a great weekend!
Thanks! I will! My job for this weekend is uploading all the pictures we want made into prints so that they will all be organized into photo albums for when we visit the family in Toledo at the end of the month.
This picture business is exhausting, I need to stop taking so many!

We got to the loading area and to my delight Mom did not chicken out, she got on the ride! :woohoo: We were seated in the middle section of the train which was good for Mom's first time, I don't think she would have enjoyed the front!
Here we go!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4129.jpg
Doesn't look nervous does she?

Our train stalled here for what felt like several minutes, certainly longer than it usually does.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4134.jpg
She is starting to look a little nervous now isn't she? :lmao:
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4137.jpg
Finally we started moving backwards, Wheeeee!
Oh no! The Yeti is after us!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4138.jpg
Well Mom survived the ride, not sure how much she enjoyed it though she claims that she did.
I attempted to take a picture of our ride photo but Mom and I were in the back of our car and the picture on the screen was so dark at the top that you couldn't really make out our faces just our bodies. Oh well.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4142.jpg
We decided to go see Finding Nemo:The Musical, good decision too as it started to POUR as we entered the theatre. Now we had seen the show back in 2007 and weren't overly thrilled by it. Well I liked it much more this time around. There was nothing different about it so no idea why I didn't like it then but like it now. I am just fickle I guess.

When the show ended I could still hear the drumming of the rain on the roof of the theatre so on went the ponchos.
Mom suggested that we go ride Dinosaur. I was surprised by this as she did not like how jerky it was when she rode it in 2007 and she had skipped it last year.
The ride was pretty much a walk-on, hurray!
I love our ride photo, especially the people sitting in the row in front of us, hilarious!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4163.jpg
We exited from Dinosaur and guess what!? It was still pouring! So on went the ponchos. :rotfl: Mom had to take a bathroom break and I saw Pluto out for photos in the covered area next to the bathrooms. It looked like a seating area for a restaurant. Nobody was out there though and Pluto was all by himself. So I saw Mom heading towards the bathroom so I went over to him to wait for her out of the rain.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4165.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/Image281.jpg
Well I guess I worried Mom at this point, she didn't think I had heard her say she was going to the bathroom and she didn't see where I had gone so she thought I had wandered off into the park without her when in reality I had been right there waiting for her the whole time. :rotfl: She thought I was lost in a sea of ponchos.
Our next destination was Festival of the Lion King but first we stopped off to enjoy a Churro. I had never had one before and it was on my list of snacks to try that trip.
Mom went and sat in the covered area while I stood at the stand in the rain and waited to place my order. This is where I got really annoyed. When I went up to the window there was one little boy there placing his order. Well then his sister came up and joined him and placed her order. Okay I didn't mind that so much. The two of them handed over their room card to pay so I figured okay she will get them their snacks and then it will be my turn. Well nope! Five other people from their family, all adults cut right in front of me and ordered food too! That made me steaming mad! They should have been there in line with the kids to begin with and ordered and paid all together or they should have gotten in line behind me considering the kids had already paid for their food before the adults even arrived. I hate rude people! So there I stood in the rain waiting to place my order which took forever as there was only one person working that little stand so she had to take the orders and prepare the food.
Finally I got my hands on our churro and went to join Mom.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2019th%20-%20Animal%20Kingdom/D4166.jpg
Well sadly the Churro was nothing exciting, definitely not worth the aggravation I had just gone through to get it. At least I was able to check it off my list of things to try and I needed something in my stomach anyways since it had been several hours since I had last eaten anything.
Once we finished off the Churro we once again headed back out into the rain.

Yep, I was surprised that she followed through with Everest. Then again she watched the video on Youtube so many times that there were not really any surprises for her.
I was a bit disappointed with the Churro but at least now I have tried it and can try something else next time! :thumbsup2 I am glad that we only bought one and split it, would have hated to waste money buying two.

Finally caught up! Your pictures of Nemo and Everest are great! Finding Nemo is one of our favorite shows...we saw it twice during our first trip that it was open, we bought the CD, we all learned the words to the whole show (even DD7, Allison, who was only 5 at the time...she makes a great Nemo!) She used Nemo's first song to audition for a musical at the Children's Theatre, and was the youngest person cast! It also helped that she's so cute ;) OK, so we were a bit obsessed with the Nemo thing...we're ok with that!

Of course the highlight of the trip is always the visit to Penguin Palace to get a Smurf ice cream! Am I a bad granddaughter and niece for saying that? :cutie: Oh and of course I am looking forward to being there on my birthday and getting to have a nice birthday dinner out with the family. :thumbsup2

Hmmm, a secret Va Beach dessert spot I don't know about, sounds like a plan to me! ;)
You might know the place. It's a Mexican restaurant called Plaza Azteca.
Now these are some churros! :worship: They're served warm and have a bit of apple filling inside.

Hi Lessa's mom here, I know Plaza Azteca, I believe it is on Laskin Rd at Hilltop Shopping Centre. I've been there a few times when we lived in VA Beach, we lived just off Great Neck Rd. Good restaurant!!

Hi Lessa's mom! :goodvibes Yes, that is where it's located. :thumbsup2 I've been there twice now and had their churros both times. The sinks in the bathrooms are gorgeous too!

Hey! Just found your trip report and read through the whole thing. Looks great. I love all the pics, especially all the character pics. I didn't read through all 43 pages of responces so my appologies if these questions have been asked, but I was wondering 1) Where in Future World did you find Mary Poppins? The area looks somewhat familiar but I just can't place it and 2) How early did you line up at Toontown for rope drop. I missed out on Pixie Hallow last time I was at MK because the line was always long and being there at rope drop is an absolute must for next time.
Thanks and I can't wait for more. :)

Wow! Those look decadent! Nope, I never ate at Plaza Azteca. I only ever ate at one Mexican restaurant in Va Beach and I couldn't even tell you where it was. One of my friends took me to it. I know it was down by the water on a street that ran off Great Neck. :confused3

I don't know how to describe the area in Future World as we just sort of happened upon her but I will try. It was north of the character spot, west of the Imagination Pavilion and right near the water where the monorail runs (where I took all those pictures).
Toontown - We were there at least 15-20 minutes before rope drop, again we were hanging out in Fantasyland beforehand keeping an eye on the area.

After finishing our boring churro we made our way through the rain over to Camp Minnie-Mickey to catch the next showing of Festival of the Lion King. We love this show and see it every time we visit.
When we arrived it looked like there was already a lot of people lined up. Well the CM's kept coming over the loudspeaker requesting that we fill in all available spaces. As Mom and I joined the waiting crowd we noticed that the people already waiting were not filling up the left side of the waiting area. Since none of them seemed interested in following the CM's instructions Mom and I "filled in all available spaces" and wound up at the front of the crowd right by the entrance doors. :lmao:
It was raining really heavily at this point so we just stood there with the hoods of our ponchos on staring down at the ground so as to keep as dry as possible while the rain beat down upon us. It was a hard rain too, I could feel each drop as it beat down upon me and then ran down my poncho. It was miserable out there and just relentless!
Soon enough they started to let us into the theatre, Mom and I ended up sitting in the lion section. It was so cold in there due to the air conditioning. We kept our ponchos on to try and keep our body heat in.
The show was excellent as usual, if you have not seen it you must!

After the show I decided to get some character pictures. It was still raining hard out there but it was still so early in the day that I thought it a waste to leave already. Mom indulged me as usual and followed me into the character lines.
First up were Donald and Goofy

I looked over at Mickey's line and it was really long, Kenai and Koda from Brother Bear didn't have much of a line though. I had never had my picture taken with them so I jumped in line. They had to go for a break before my turn but were only gone for a short while. I got a real kick out of the characters walking around with these yellow umbrellas, for some reason it just struck me as really funny.

After Kenai and Koda I looked over at Mickey's line. It was still a bit long but I decided to get in it anyways. What was a couple more minutes out in the pouring rain?
Well this line moved SO slowly. I think Mickey and Minnie went on break 2-3 times before we got up to them. Mom and I were entertained/disgusted by the oddest/low-rent family who were in line in front of us. They were SO loud and talking all about sordid family affairs, stuff you do not usually want to air in public. On top of that one of the mothers was holding her baby in one arm and a cup of beer in her other hand. Well the baby kept taking his pacifier and dipping it in her beer and then sucking on it. They all roared with laughter and thought this was the funniest thing ever, and then they let him continue to do it! :scared1:
Finally my turn with Mickey and Minnie was up but wait! They had to go on another break! At least we could stand out of the rain while waiting for them since we were at the front of the line and could take cover. I was taking my poncho off in preparation for the picture so I handed Mom the camera and we nearly dropped it! I just about nearly had a heart attack.

After we finished with the characters we decided to throw in the towel and leave the park. We debated for a moment about whether or not we should grab some food at Pizzafari but decided to just eat off property instead.
The walk out of that park was so depressing, it was just so wet and dreary. We really needed a little to sun to revitalize us.
As we were walking towards the car we saw two young boys, didn't look older than 11 or 12 running towards a school bus that was driving away screaming for it to stop. Mom and I were completely dumbfounded. How does something like that happen!? The boys just stood there not knowing what to do as they watched the bus drive away. Luckily before the bus exited the parking lot somebody must have noticed the boys and made the bus turn around, thank goodness! Can you imagine the hell that would have rained down on that school if they had left those two kids behind, how would they explain that to the parents?! I can't believe they did not do a proper roll call before that bus started moving.
Back in the car Mom and I decided to head to the Florida Mall. The directions were on the same card that had the drug store directions from that morning and it was just way too early to go back and sit around in the hotel room. We had originally planned on going to the mall anyways and I was in desperate need of some more memory cards for the camera. I had already pretty much used up my 8GB in memory.
So off to the mall we went. It was really easy to get there, bit of a long drive though and and at some points it was raining so hard that it was difficult to see, made for a very nervous drive! We made it to the mall safe and sound though.
The Florida Mall is HUGE! I have never seen a mall that big before! I drove around to the Macy's and found a parking spot as close as I could get. Mom and I were not about to wear our ponchos into the mall so we had to make a run for it, of course we got completely drenched. Our first stop upon getting into Macy's was to find a washroom to try and dry off a bit. Mom said she felt low class walking around in wet clothes. I tried to point out to her that pretty much anybody coming into the mall at that point was going to be walking around wet but she was just feeling down due to the rain I guess.
I dried off as best I could but I was still pretty damp, there was no point in pouting about it though, my clothes would dry in time.
Our first stop was the camera shop where I bought two 4 GB memory cards. I crossed my fingers that that would be enough to get me through the cruise.
After that we just wandered around and window shopped, neither of us seemed to be in much of a mood to spend a bunch of money. Mom bought us each a cookie from Mrs Fields and we discovered the big M&M store which was pretty neat.
I don't think we spent more than an hour/hour and a half in the mall. My feet just couldn't take it, they were really starting to complain. I curse those stupid shoes I wore to Epcot!
I told Mom to wait at the Macy's exit and I would run out to get the car, no point in both of us getting wet again after just getting dry.
The rain was just a drizzle now and I decided to do some exploring and we drive down International Drive to get back to WDW instead of taking the highway like we had when we came. I figured it was good to get to know the area a bit better since we seem to be traveling to Florida so often lately.
It was actually a very pretty drive, not at all what I expected. I had this picture in my head of it being a real tourist trap with lots of neon lights and trashy tourist stops, it wasn't like that at all!
We stopped at Uno's for dinner before heading back to POP for the night. We love Uno's and they don't have it in Canada so it is a special treat when we get to eat here. Unfortunately our waitress was a real dud, she talked in the most monotone voice, never checked on us to refill our drinks and was just very blah. We did not leave her a very good tip. Our food was excellent as always though and hit the spot.
It was pouring again as we left so of course we got drenched, again.
Back at POP it was so nice to get changed into some nice dry pj's and curl up in the bed and watch tv. I watched some silly Disney channel movie about a male "mermaid" who was abandoned by his mom as a baby so didn't know he was a mermaid until he turned thirteen. There was nothing else on tv that night can you tell?
Mom and I both fell asleep early that night dreaming of beautiful blue skies and a warm breeze. Would our dreams come true? Would we see an improvement in the weather or would it be more rain, rain, rain?

Well Mom survived the ride, not sure how much she enjoyed it though she claims that she did. Yay, glad she enjoyed it :thumbsup2
Maybe I need to see it again, when I saw it in 2007 I liked it but we skipped it in 08!
I love our ride photo, especially the people sitting in the row in front of us, hilarious! Hilarious :rotfl2:

The pain really was unbelievable, I really don't know how people with chronic pain handle it.
We couldn't believe the mom/baby/beer thing either. We were completely shocked. The grandparents and what looked to be the mom's sister all just laughed along and watched as he continued to do it. :sad2:

I so wish Uno's would come to Canada!
Florida Mall is definitely worth going to if you have cash to burn but that is coming from the view point of a Canadian as we don't have a lot of the stores that you guys have. Other than the M&M store I didn't see too much that you wouldn't have at any mall in the States. The place is massive though and I don't even think we saw the whole place. You really need a map to find your way around that place as you could easily get lost.
We had originally planned on going to the Millenia Mall which has much more unique/high-end designer stores if you are looking for shopping you don't get everywhere.
Sounds like you made the best of a yucky day. You saw some :scared1: things, too! :rotfl:
Yep, despite the constant unyielding rain we did our best to not let it bring us down.

I wish Pocahontas had been there when we were there! She is the only "Princess" that I haven't gotten my picture with.
Last year we had Erich's laptop and that is what we did, emptying the cards onto the computer every night. He wasn't about to hand over his computer to us while we were gone for two weeks and I have a desktop so I just had to be careful with my memory. :rotfl:

Well I will give churros another try when I visit Virginia Beach again since Car posted that yummy looking photo! The AK churro though was not so good, I would rather spend the money on something else but you are right everybody has their own tastes!
If only it had been sunny I would have had more pictures of Camp Minnie-Mickey for you. It was just raining too hard to have the camera out that day, I have a shockingly small amount of pictures from our AK day, at least for me. :rotfl: Yet another reason why I knew I should have invested in that waterproof camera before the trip. :headache: I am definitely getting one before our next Florida vacation! Oh no, sorry about the blisters and all the rain! What a mess. At least you made the most of your day at AK. And you got to see some more of Orlando, right? I really like International Drive at night, when all the attractions and mini-golf courses are lit up. It's a lot of fun! The traffic's usually abd though so we try to avoid it when we're not going to do something specifically on I-Drive.
I hope the sun finally comes out in your next update and that your feet felt better soon!

There was actually not much traffic at all on I-Drive, I was really surprised! It was a looooong drive back to WDW though taking I-Drive instead of the highway.

Wednesday morning arrived after a nice long sleep. I woke up and opened the curtains and it had stopped raining! In fact the sun was shining!
I examined my arms and legs and the rash was gone! This was turning out to be a perfect morning. After careful thought evaluating the past couple days I figured out that it was in fact my sunscreen that was causing the rash. I was using the same sunscreen I had used last summer thinking it was safe as I had tested it out on my arm before we had left for the trip and no rash had developed. Well I guess the combination of the Florida sun, heat and sweat combined with the sunscreen is what set it off. All this time and it was the stupid sunscreen. :headache: Since I had not been wearing sunscreen the day before due to the rain the rash went away with the help of the Benadryl I had bought at the drug store. Well with that all figured out the sunscreen quickly got chucked into the garbage and I will not be buying Coppertone again.
Mom had gone down to the food court to grab our breakfast of Mickey waffles and she came back with a new mug since I had pitched such a fit the day before about the lid on our first one going missing.
So after chowing down on my Mickey waffle and a banana for nutrition we were off to the park!
I had scheduled two full Epcot days this trip as I wanted to be sure that we saw as much of the Flower and Garden Festival as we could.
When we arrived we got a nice close parking spot and we were some of the first people in line at our turnstyle. I went all the way to the side to find a really short line while all the suckers lined up in the few long lines in the middle. :confused3

Since we had done the rope drop run to Soarin the other day we decided to head over to Test Track. Another first for Mom! It was a walk-on, they didn't even make us watch the silly pre-boarding movie, just waved us on through. :woohoo:
Now I do not find this ride all that thrilling but it is fun to pose for the ride camera which is exactly what I did. However when we got off the ride the ride photo display screens were down. No! I was so disappointed, this is the only ride where you can get your photo added to your photopass card. It was a funny picture too! I know this because while you are still on the ride your picture pops up for you to see.
Disappointed we started to head out, first we had to take pictures with the car we intend on purchasing. Well not really, a convertible is not all that practical for where we live, we would only get to use it a few months out of the year.

As I was about to get out of the car a CM came over and told me I couldn't park there. Oh hilarious CM humour!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2020th%20-%20Epcot/D5034.jpg
The line was still really short so Mom suggested that we ride again.
The ride photo screens were still down but this time there was a CM there who told us that if we went to the photo desk in the gift shop they would be able to put our picture on our card for us. :woohoo:
This picture isn't all that amusing but hey I got Mom to pose for it as well.

On Dinosaur it is towards the end of the ride. There will be a big Dinosaur that will loom over your ride car on your right.
I'm not good at finding out where the cameras are! lol
Where's the camera on test track?
Test Track the camera is at the point where you are doing the "crash" test and your car is zooming towards the wall and it looks like you are going to hit it, so right before your car goes outside.

It was a fantastic trip and would recommend it to anybody. I will admit though that by the end I was glad to be heading home. I missed my cats and well I am sure that the situation alluded to in my TR title contributed to it as well. ;)

See the weird thing about the sunscreen was that I bought it brand new for the trip last year so it should not broken down yet but I still got the rash and I looked at the expiration date before packing it for this year and it said it should be good for several more years yet the rash. :confused3 I think they must have changed something in their formula, that is all I can think of. :confused3

Right around this area I spied the Kim Possible Game kiosk where you get fast passes to pick up a Kimmunicator in World Showcase. Our fastpasses were for 11:30 and were to be picked up at the International Gateway. I was kinda bummed about that as my plans for the day involved us exploring the Mexico side of World Showcase.
