I know you're all ea-GEAR to share your knowledge about your favorite clothing, training aids and technical toys, so this week's prompt posted here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32075505&postcount=950) on the 'Ohana thread is:

Beyond the basics, what's your favorite/most-useful/most loved gear?

Of course, feel free to talk about your favorite shoes, socks, tech shirts or sports bras or other necessities. But I think we'd all like to know about that special something(s) that you've added to your "must have" for training, racing days, or just plain pleasure. For some of you, maybe it's your Garmin. Other, a special brand of sunscreen or a specific brand of water belt? Still others, a strategy for taping your legs and feet or a a favorite tracking website?

Please share your special finds with the rest of us. :thumbsup2

Hi Warriors!

Tracy - could you add me and Jeff to the full for January, and we will be there for the FE on Friday too! Thanx.

Went to pilates class this morning, and then attempted the tm, which wasn't pretty, did some arm work too.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Hey! See my post below! I'm having trouble with 503 errors on DIS this week and got a double post while trying to reload. Also, the options say "edit/delete post" but I can't for the life of me figure out how to delete the post. But then again, it is bed time.

I'd do a little dance in this place but.... that would be weird.

Hey Warriors!

Man, it's gotten HOT here! It's like we skipped right past spring and went straight from winter to summer! I did 2.5 slow and sweaty miles around 9:00 this evening; it was dusk, and it was still too hot to run in anything more than a running skirt and a sports bra!

We also ran a sweaty Great Kilted 5K in 30:04 (about 30 seconds slower than my 5K PR) on Sunday morning. It was toasty, but the beer was cold (yes, at 9:00 in the morning.... it was that kind of 5K) and I got to sweat up a rented kilt. Ugh. We also dressed Jack up in a tartan neck tie (we couldn't find a kilt) and he looked suave enough that we had the organizers fawning over him to take pictures. I'll be quite surprised if he (and possibly James and I) don't end up in the promotional materials for next year's run. Oh yes, we were that cute. Despite the sweat. :rotfl2: Anyway, it was a totally fun race, and we ended up sticking around for a couple hours afterwards for the party. Oh, and Jack tried to eat someone's super-tiny chihuahua.... but we figure he can't be blamed for not knowing the difference between a tasty snack and an extremely small dog. Disclaimer: the chihuahua was fine.... Jack realized his mistake as soon as he got within 6 inches of the thing and immediately 3 people (both James and I, as well as the chihuahua's owner) screamed and lunged. I still don't think he really understood why we were so concerned about the noisy, fearless squirrel, though.

It's supposed to be HOT all week, so we'll see how much running I actually get done, and how much time I spend just laying around eating sugar-free popsicles.

Sarah

Morning Warriors!

Started off June with speed drills at the track. 3 miles later I felt pretty good, so I added on another .5 mile just for good measure!:thumbsup2

I have an open water swim planned for after work. I am also supposed to get in a 4 mile run, but not sure about that after my swim. But since it's National Running Day, I will get out there foe at least some mileage!

HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY WARRIORS!

Happy National Running Day, Warriors!

Seattle has a heat advisory today! And, looking at the national weather map, we're the only part of the country that actually has one right now! Which doesn't mean that it's hotter than anywhere else, right now, but it does mean that us pathetic little Northwesters can't take the heat and will all die like snowmen in spring. :lmao: So, likely no running for me, today, unfortunately.

Anyway, that is my morning update. Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!

Hey everyone- quick drive by.

Jennifer- welcome!

Sarah Rose- nice 5k! Laughing at the image of your group all tartaned out! I thought of you the other day when I had FOUR chihuahuas chase me during one run. Two lived together and are always mean, but the others were random. I obviously need Jack.

As for me, call it 95 miles and 20 hours for May. If I had realized I was so close to 100, I would have tried to squeeze in some more miles! The last few runs I've done have all been in miserable heat. Nothing like running when the heat index is 100!! I think I'm starting to get used to it though- I bring tons of water and my phone, look for shade, and have slowed down a lot. I still don't want to face the treadmill instead. :rolleyes1

I did 7 today, and that was even before I knew it was National Running Day. ;)

Oh, and for the Marathon question, I'm not officially signed up yet. I'm leaning towards doing the Princess Half and a few other non-Disney races instead. I'm thinking we will probably do RFTT since it is during Emma's fall break and we can stay longer than our usual one crazy day at the parks schedule... I'm still watching the full percentages though...:rolleyes1

How fantastic that you guys have national run day! That's very cool.

I'm carrying on with my aim to do my varied exercise, but I'm afraid that's hitting my miles. To be fair my legs aren't allowed to run too much anyway so maybe it's a good thing. 0.93mile swim on monday, 3.1mile run tues and 1hr spinning weds. Rest/shopping day today! It should be a study day but i've been a bit of geek and have finished that assignment already

Sarah what a brilliant 5km and i love that you all got really dressed up despite the weather! I'm not envious of your heat out there, but being so close to your PB is outstanding!

Jennifer whoop for week 2 day 2. You're doing great.

Michelle you are amazing at doing those speed drills and squeezing extra bit on the end is fab!

Jen:yay:for being so close to 100 anyway! and for getting 7 miles in

Jeff blimey that's hot for 5pm. How do you keep going for 8 milers... oh i forgot i saw your sweaty photo :lmao:

Sarah_Rose
06-04-2009, 06:37 PM
Kate: Congrats on the lunges! :lmao: I'm also considering this to be me fulfilling my own reminder service. All the rest of the warriors are on their own.

I have... nothing to report. At all. I've decided that I'm not running until the temperature goes below 90. Which is supposed to be... tomorrow. So I figure I should milk a good excuse for being lazy for as long as it lasts, since we don't get a lot of "snow days" here in Seattle.

Saturday is the 20 mile/10 mile (marathon/half marathon) group run for Joints in Motion for the Rock n Roll Seattle marathon. I'm excited; I figure I'll do 12 miles. And then I need to decide if I'm doing the Furry 5K for the Humane Society or the Girls on the Run 5K on Sunday, as they're both at the same time. I'm leaning towards the GotR 5K, because the Furry 5K is a sure thing crowd-drawer... and I spoke to some GotR volunteers at the 5K we did last weekend and we were actually *asked* to bring Jack if we came, because the girls would think he was hilarious.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the Great Kilted Run, as promised:

Not much for me to report. I did get out to the lake on Wed for a 1/2 mile swim but that's where it ended. Mother Nature put on quite a show that night, the thunder and lightning was amazing! So no running afterwards for me. (I guess the Chipotle for dinner didn't help either!:lmao:) Yesterday was my usual rest day. I won't get out for anything tonight either because...

Michelle! Have all kinds of fun with your tri!

Sarah, the pics are fantastic! Ugh on the heat wave. I was thinking that it might not be that hot for the upcoming half event there. I'm certain it will be record breaking heat. Usually is when I get there. That's been the case for WDW last couple of years, and just happened in Nashville. Maybe I'll be lucky and the heatwave will be long gone. Fingers crossed.

Kirby had a rough day of it today. I got him out for a smidge over 2.5 miles and I think it was almost too much. He really slowed it down to a crawl at the end. He gets a day off tomorrow. It's scooter ride day.

Tracy, sorry about all that rain.

Is Marcia's volunteering event over? I look forward to hearing how it went. Did I miss her comments?

Jeff, you are amazing/crazy doing those swims and saying shark bait. I can't even fathom that as being an encounter. I'm thinking there is no such thing as sharks in HI.

mkymsehi
06-06-2009, 02:14 AM
Lily,

Marcia's volunteering ends tomorrow in LA. I haven't heard from her since before she left.

Where I swim is very populated with people. There is a reef barrier, but fish and other creatures do share the swimming lane with me. If early enough in the morning, possible to see green sea turtles. Sharks not likely, but I won't say never. It is their home you know.

I rode 24 miles today in 1:54.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Warriors, hope you are having a great weekend and speaking of that:
Michelle how did your TRI go??? Don't forget to stop by and give us the low-down!

Sarah: I just loved your photos from the race. The kilts were fabulous and the dog looked great!!! mmmmm popsicles on a hot day - sounds just fab to me!

Jen: Great mileage for you in May!!!Only to that 100, now maybe we could work on that for one of these months - eveyone trying to get to 100 or more miles for the month, probably could do it as we get closer to the actualy "traning Period" for January races.

Kate: Hi smiley girl!! It's ok to give those legs a break every now and then, it will only make it better later on. Are you still plannin on coming over across the pond in January?

Lily: poor little Kirby Dog and great that he is getting a day off. When Mickey has enough she will just plop down in the grass and that is it. She won't move, you have to pick her up and carry her.

ALoha Jeff; You are just rockin with your running/biking and swimming. You will do great at your tri!!! Please just don't say "shark bait" doesn't paint a pretty picture.

I got a quick text from Marcia out in CA. She says she is getting up super early every day and lifting lots of heavy stuff! Sure can't wait to hear all about it.

AFM: I am continueing with doing my 3 days of short miles and 1 day of whatever long miles tickles me at the time. Longest I have done is 8 miles and I do that like once a month or so. Other days are spent doing the BIggest loser shread or sculpt Dvds, Swimming or Wii. I started that 100 push up challenge that Marcia put the link up. I did week 1 day 2 yesterday. We'll see as I hate push ups. I spent the evening yesterday helping my friend paint her new place. She and her husband are first time homeowners. She helped me paint when I got my first place, so I figured to give back the favor.

I have updated the frist post with the Mile and Times that people have given me.
I am still missing Katarina and Roxanne. Come out, Come out wherever you guys are???

I am planning a separate Warrior meet a bit like alittle after 4pm right before the official WISH meet. That way we can all meet face to face and take a photo and that way then we can mingle with the other team mates for the bigger meet.
Also not sure if anyone would be interested in doing Warrior t-shirts?? Could wear them at the meet.

Hey Warriors, hoping your Sunday is going well so far.

I got out to do an 8 easy miles. Then around mile 2 I decided it needed to be not easy but hard so started to push it. Had alot on my mind so I even took my MP3 to listen too to keep my mind on something else - trying to focus more. DId my fastest 8 miles training to date.
Amost before mile 4 I almost passed up this little guy. He was out in the grassy area under a tree hunting.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j286/dsnyfan/Nature/nightheron06072009.jpg

It's a Yellow Crowned Night Heron. I have to count myself lucky to have seen it. They normally are not out in plain sight.
Around mile 5.8 the unlucky happens....bam, twisted right ankle - completely over on its outter side. Nice stingy feeling. I stood there thinking - hmmmm what to do. I still had a ways to get back home. I started walking slowly and then decided to just keep moving to finish up my 8 miles. I even joggin on it a bit. I figure as long as I kept moving it wouldn't hurt too much and I was right. Of course mow that I am stiing still for a bit the ankle has swelled some. So doing my RICE and waiting for NASCAR to start to see my #9 cutie Kasey Kahne race!!!

Kate: nice that mum worries about you, I think at 23 you are old enough to fly by yourself, but that's just me.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32176694&postcount=989) on the 'Ohana thread.

What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?

How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?

Hey Warriors!!

Between running & biking, I got in about 26 1/2 miles Friday. I had ANOTHER freakin' flat on the road bike, so I finally gave up & took it to the shop with a plaintive "Please fix it!" plea.

Yesterday about an hour of P90X workouts & today I was help up by rain, but got in a short 4.3 miles before running out of light.

Hopefully tomorrow: a long bike/run combination.

You guys all rock!!

(Just in case you might be interested!)

We, so far have the highest times. As you can see, we are doing pretty good compared to some of the other teams. Hoping this might pump us up a bit.
Some people will start training for the Disney Half and Full Marathon starting around Aug/Sept so the miles should pump up. I am hoping to get a bike at some point and that will help also.

Have a great Monday Warriors!

Sarah thanks, i'm very proud i can lunge- can you tell!!! lunge lungety lunge lunge! Your photos are fantastic too.

Tracy thanks for the update on our team status- i'm so proud to be part of the warrior gang. Massive well done on your fastest 8miles too and wildlife spotting!

Jim awesome workout on friday, that's alot of miles all at once!

Jeff an ice bath after tropical 14 miles sounds..... evil!?!?! you're amazing

Erika :yay::woohoo::cheer2::banana: so pleased you had a good run and can take it up a step. You deserve some more good runs.

Lily you make me giggle! really good to see what you're upto.

Think that's everyone!

I did 6.2miles on TM yesterday, then 0.93miles swim and 30mins on wii ea sports active today. I'm loving how different the exercises are from what i'm used too. Although i did strangle myself twice with the wii-mote :rotfl2:

I am also a little embarrassed to say that i have signed up for a gym instructor course! Mostly home study and I'm ready for next challenge as I come to the end of one Post grad course in July. I'm not intending actually to instruct but it'll be a great help to my current job. (well that's what i'm telling myself!)

Merry Monday Warriors !!!

Summer has finally arrived here. Hot as a burned hamburger in the morning, thunderstorms in the afternoon.

I ran 6 this morning using the run 7/walk 1 strategy because it was sooooo flippin hot. Still managed to keep it under 10/mile. Followed that up with a .75 "cool down" (:rotfl2:) walk.

This afternoon I managed to get in 11 miles on the bike before getting chased back to the house. I literally beat the rain by about 2 minutes. I was able to keep it above 18 mph, which is my immediate, consistent goal.

But the BIG news of the day: After $62 worth of repairs on my back wheel, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FLATS!!!!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I think the total for the day is about 17.65 miles in 1:48 (including the 13 minute walk).

Welcome back Roxy!! Don't be a stranger!!!

Lily you make me giggle! really good to see what you're up to.Me, I don't know. Perhaps you're just giggly today?

Good going Jim. I hope that the no flats continues for quite a long time now.

Jeff, I'm glad that where you swim is more safe than not. I agree with Tracy though that the term "shark bait" is a bit disconcerting.

Tracy, nice pic of the bird.

Kate good job on your training. Yeah, you really are old enough to travel the pond by yourself, but I'm sure it's nice to have Mum along too. I must hear all about this embarassing gym instructor course. You must tell all! Will you be learning how to count jumping jacks series and pushups or what.

I'm plugging away. Seattle half in a couple weeks! It won't be fast, but it will get done. Planning on taking most of the time allotted and chatting with friends along the way.

Morning Warriors!

Sorry I'm late posting this but it's been a very busy week. Not only did we have the tri on Saturday, but we are getting ready to leave to Boise...DH's Ironman 70.3 is on Saturday!

The tri on Saturday was so much fun! The weather was perfect! The water was a little chilly, but in the wetsuit I couldn't even tell. And actually, the lake is warmer than than Folsom Lake which is where we have been practicing. My swim went much better than I expected and I wasn't the last person in my wave to get out of the water!:woohoo: Off on the bike, it seemed much easier than last year. The "hills" that just about killed me last year were nothing this time. Probably because we have been training on much worse! Last year, my friend caught up to me right as we exited the park on the bike and she was in the swim wave after me! So this time, I kept watching for her. She didn't catch me until the turn around, so I was very happy with that! Instead of walking (more like crawling) the run like I did last year, I actually took off running! Felt good until I hit a rock the wrong way on the trail and almost bit the dust! It is very hard to catch yourself from falling on jello legs!!! I managed not to fall, but this was all done right in front of the photographer!!!:scared1: I was really worried that she caught that on film. Luckily she didn't...or if she did, she deleted it for me!:thumbsup2 As I finished I check the clock... WHAT??? I only beat my time from last year by 2 minutes??? You gotta be kidding me! I was so depressed. I mean, 2 minutes better is 2 minutes better, but I was hoping for much more! I tried to not let it get me down, after all I had finished strong and didn't pass out like I did last year (heat issues.) We spent the rest of the day at the park with the running group at the lake, BBQing, etc.

Sunday, I went to check the results. Didn't really care to see mine, was looking up DH. He told me what he thought his time was, but I couldn't find him. He then asked if I took the 5 minutes off that it took from the time the clock started until his wave took off. WAIT...WHAT? What a dummy! I totally forgot about that! My wave didn't take off for a good 20 minutes! YES!!! I PR'd by 22 minutes!!! Much better!

So we had a great time at the tri for fun and like I said, are now getting ready for Boise next weekend. Hmmm...I'm really liking this tri thing. Maybe next year I can do the Ironman with the DH! (Did I really just say that???)

Hope everyone is having a great week!

I'm baaaack! :)

My trip was so great. The audition went well, but sadly there was no spot open for me. Apparently they were really only looking for people that were either very short or very tall. I'm right in the middle so my height really was the problem. oh well! there's always next time. We walked like crazy (as always with a WDW vacation). But all in all it was a really fun trip.

Glad to see everyone's doing so well!

Hi Warriors!

I've started a new thread to keep track of the rosters more easily. I expect interest in teams will start to pick up soon as the training to train and full-on training for the fall races start.

The link to this new thread is here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2198827), and it will include the rosters on the first post and monthly totals for all the teams on the second. Other posts will be for requests and new information.

Racey Tracey, you knew this request was coming, but could you please send me an updated roster for your team? TIA! :goodvibes

Hey Warriors!

Life is a bit crazy right now; I never realized how much was involved with getting married on the opposite side of the continent! And road tripping there... with a dog. And running a half marathon right before I leave. :lmao:

Did the 10 mile "long run" of the Joints in Motion's training program with the group on Saturday morning in about 2 hours. I say "long" in quotations because I did my long run of 14 miles a couple weeks ago, but oh well, the longest run I did before the Disney Half was 9 miles because of horrible weather, and I survived.

4 miles in the almost dusk heat, today, with Jack in tow.

I'm trying to convince James that we should do the Disneyland Half Marathon in September; it's not going well, even though I've worked it out so that we could go Friday evening-Monday so he wouldn't have to take time off work, and for less than $800 out of pocket (using our Disney Visa rewards for park passes.... I know, we'd use them for our Marathon Weekend trip in January anyway, but shhhhh.... don't tell him!). He's not being convinced. Even though my birthday is a few days later and I think it would make a great birthday present. :lmao: I'd just go without him but..... I'm already planning on doing that for most of the January trip, so.... no dice.

And speaking of money, I'm only $78 away from my fundraising goal for the Rock n Roll Seattle Half Marathon with the Joints in Motion Training Team..... so if anyone happens to find any spare change hiding in their sofas.... the link is in my sig. :rotfl:

Thanks for all the birthday WISHes everyone.

I cranked out my typical 8.25 miles in the heat of the afternoon. Showered at the beachpark, and met up with my family for a great dinner at Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Bonus, we got to tour the Columbia Tall ship in port, called the Gloria. Very cool to meet sailors from Columbia, and show us their ship at sunset.

I've had a hectic couple of days sorry! My boyfriend's had interviews for a new teaching job, we'll know on thurs; I've been accepted onto a Sports and Exercise Psychology Masters and also had my gym instructor training regime in the post. Lily it's basically the entry level qualification that would allow me to support people getting into exercise at a gym. So cardio instruction, resistance and weight work. It's about 6 weeks of home study then a weekend practical and assessment. Ooooh! very exciting and different.

Oh and i have flown back from Florida alone- did it last time as my parents stayed out for a week longer when I did the half. She's just very protective and doesn't want me to be lonely i think. I'm sure she wants the trip too, especially with me spending more time with my boyfriend. Whatever makes her happy :rotfl:

Jeff sounds like you had a brilliant day. How awesome seeing sailors from columbia.

Sarah lots of luck for convincing James, you can always make a good reason for a disney trip and especially as it's your birthday! We could start a warrior petition!

Kat well done for doing a fab audition, even tho no space for you quite yet. So how does that work? Do you have to re-audition or will they hold you on file?

Tracy thanks again for all your hard work and motivating words!

Stacey It'll be so lovely to see you too! Keep hitting the classes- i've only just realised how motivating they are :thumbsup2

Michelle now that's what i call smashing a PB  22 mins!!!! Hope you're very proud of yourself. All that hard work is definitely paying off

Helloooo Warriors ~

Michelle - nice PR!!! 22 minutes, you rocked it! All that speed work on the track has paid off!

Kate - you'll soon be a certified PT and we'll be able to ask you all of our training questions. Sounds like a great program

Tracy - How's your ankle feeling and how is the push up's going? I have to get back on track with those now that I'm home.

Lily - Good luck with the training for Seattle, I wish I was able to join you guys.

Kat - There will always be another audtions, I'm sure there's a spot for you somewhere.

Jim B. - You would have appreciated the FAST riders last week, I asked the first few that arrived into camp daily and they averaged 18 - 21 mph. They finished both 100 mile days in 5 - 5.5 hours. CRAZY FAST!

AFM - my life in a nut shell last week....Got up 4:30am, waited in line for the Porta potty, waited in line for breakfast, packed up tent and gear, got to bike parking by 5:45am, passed out water, route sheets.

Packed up the bike parking area (we parked 2200 bikes daily) into 2 trucks, took a bus to the next location, unloaded the trucks, set up bike parking and secured it with snow fencing. By this time riders were already arriving, so we greeted riders in and made sure there was enough water, powerade and space on each rack to fit all the bikes. Done by 7:30pm Whew. I'll post pictures when I get them organized, but the bars to hang the bikes weighed about 15 pounds each...what a workout! and we lifted them twice daily.

Marcia, wow that is some XT with all that schlepping.

Kate, that is quite an interesting Masters course. I'm intrigued. I hope you enjoy the course...it would make the whole thing much more palatable.

Sarah, oh that would be so fun that you could do DL. I do hope he caves and you get to play there. You are much closer than I to that event.

Happy Thursday Warriors!

Glad to hear the ankle is on the mend Tracy!

We were back out at the lake for another 1/2 mile open swim. I was having a major problem with my left calf in the water. It kept cramping up on me. I stopped using my legs completely as I swam, but I felt like I had my rudder down or something because everytime it would cramp up I had to flex my foot. It was weird. Oh well. Should have gone out for a run after that, but I was done and really needed to get home to do laundry for the trip.

We will be headed to Boise tonight for DH's Ironman 70.3. I am hoping to still be able to check in, but just in case, have a great weekend everyone!:thumbsup2

Not much to report. Still hot, still running. Just realized I've run over 55 miles this month already- how crazy is that?!

I've had a few anxiety dreams lately- of the lost and wandering in circles variety (usually lost trying to find various park entrances at Disney :rolleyes1)I finally clued in- I've been running with my Garmin, and trying to stay in the shade, so pretty much every run feels like I'm wandering in circles! ;)

Hey warriors! I am seriously recommitting to posting here at least every few days. I swear! I ran a 5k friday night. Here is a little report and some pics.
I have been continually updating the spreadsheet with my miles and time. I am deciding on a couple more races for the summer, possibly a half at the end of August in NH. For now, put me down for the Dunedin 5k Midnight Run on July 3rd. Should be a good one, since it is at night and they have luminaries on the course.

Hey all,

Race went well considering the freaking temperature was 95 in the sun. Finished in 37 minutes, which is my worst time since last summer, but I can't be too mad about it. I am just used to seeing my time in the 33's for a 5k. I talked to some super nice ladies before the race, they wanted to know where I got my bondi band. I also talked to a few people who were running their first race. Got lots of comments on my WISH shirt. They had so much beer. All microbrews and all you could drink. It wasn't advertised as all you can drink so I was expecting the standard free drink ticket or 2 for a craptastic beer. I had several beers I had never tried before!
Here is a pic post race with my BEER! I was SO SO hot and sweaty and gross.

And one of me attempting a sprint to the finish.

Amy,

Little D??? She doesn't fit in the stroller anymore. Time to upgrade to a running stroller, don't ya think?

I went out on a 11 miler with the clinic. It was our first bus run of the year. Heat got to me, so I backed off in order to make it to the finish standing up. The rest of my group hammered out 13 miles, but I decided to save it for another day. Hmmm, 13 miles on the bike yesterday = tired legs today.

Hi Warriors!
I had a great weekend. Went to a wedding and it was a major w/o on the dance floor I might add, had a fantastic 30 mile bike ride with a friend and put in time on the trail with Kirby dog.

Jennifer, good luck with the ankle. I do hope it is nothing serious.

Jeff, good for you to know that it is ok to step back. You've been pounding pretty hard.

Amy, good job on the 5k even if it was not a PR. That is a good report. Oooh and beer to cheer you at the finish.

Jen, ugh on those dreams. Hope they get better soon.

Tracy, I'm happy that your ankle is getting better.

Hey Warriors! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Life is being crazy right now, but I'm still getting in an ok amount of mileage. 5 miles and 1:15 yesterday with the Joints in Motion training team - it was a rather hilly trail run with a huge number of stairs down from some bluffs to the beach and then back up again, but a very nice change of scenery and pace. The group leader (and president of the Puget Sound chapter of the Arthritis Foundation) peer pressured us into running up the "stairs to nowhere" at the end of the run and my thigh muscles almost died in the last 5 steps, but it felt really good to do it. I'm rather sad that we only have one more run with the group, because we're finally all getting to know each other and feel like a cohesive group, after 18 weeks.

I am now officially tapering for my half marathon, which is always a good feeling. Still working on the 100 push-up challenge, but I totally failed on day 3 of week 3, so I'm repeating week 3. Oh well, I've never had ANY upper body strength, so this is good for me, even if I don't make it to 100. Also, our "honeymoon" (I say that in quotes because we're hoping to get an official honeymoon where family isn't in the next cottage over) next month involves 2 weeks up at my fiance's (entire extended) family's island of cottages in Northern Ontario, and I'm figuring it'll be a good excuse to start swimming.... I'm hoping to get into triathlons in the near future, but swimming is definitely my weak point. I was on a synchronized swimming team from about age 9-18, though, so hopefully it'll just be a matter of buying an appropriate (ie. not a bikini) swim suit and getting back in to it.

Anyway, hope all you Warriors are having a great weekend. Jim, I hope you bike tires have held their air all weekend. Tracy and Jennifer, hope the ankles are feeling much better. Michelle, hope your husband's Ironman (Yikes!) went fabulously and that you have a safe trip home!

Good Monday Morning Warriors!!

Had a good weekend. My Mom and I tried to go up to Cape Canaveral for the shuttle launch and of course when we got up Saturday morning early to head to Spaceview Park we found out it was scrubbed. So we headed on over just to take a looka dn then over to Ron Jons to shop and then headed home. It was a fun little trip even if we didn;t see the launch.

As far as the 100 push up challenge, today is week 2 day 3 for me. So far so good.

Ankle is doing very good, so no complaints there. Did a very, and I mean VERY, sweaty 6 miles yesterday. I think if I had stayed out there much longer someone would have found me as a puddle on the sidewalk!! Talk about elbow bombs and pinky pistols!!!

Sounds like everyone is trying to get in their miles which is AWESOME!!
Keep it up, stay hydrated, don't for get your sunscreen-reapply if needed, spf lip balm and sunglasses!!

Amy Congrats on your 5km- in that heat it should def be considered a PB! It's a good job you like beer :)

Tracy really pleased your ankle's doing ok, if a little damp after your last run!

Sarah it's hard to get on here sometimes, but it'd be brilliant to see you every other day :goodvibes Well done for getting those miles in and times too. It seems such a shame that your group will be going their separate ways- any chance of meeting up still for runs?

Lily :banana:for dancing, there is no better way to get yourself moving (in my opinion!). Weddings are the most wonderful things aren't they. I cried.... again at my colleagues this weekend! 30mile bike ride is absolutely brilliant.

Jeff i had wondered the same thing as one of your facebook posters- really do you work? do you? do you? he he

Hey, two days in a row! But I'm at work (and it's a Monday so my boss isn't here) so it doesn't really count. :lmao:

Kate: Did your boyfriend hear back about that teaching job? I was a teacher in England once upon a time (ok, so I left the job less than two years ago, but it feels like a lifetime away) and so feel like I understand at least something about the system.

Tracy: Yay for the push-up challenge! It's hard, no? Personally, I don't think I realized just how weak my upper body is until I realized that I could not do a single "real" push-up! So, I'm working on my girl push-ups, and repeating some weeks. We'll see how it goes.

Amy: Great race report! Unlimited beer? That's my kind of 5K!

Jeff: I also didn't realize that you could take it easy; glad to hear that you're human like the rest of us! :rotfl:

As for me, I'm trying to decide whether to go for a run or a bike after work today. According to "my" training schedule, Mondays are crosstraining days, but according to the Joints in Motion schedule (which I've sort of been forced to adopt due to the timing of the long runs), Mondays are a 45 minute run. I think I'm feeling the bike, though; I bought a BikeGirl skirt from the SkirtSports outlet a couple weeks ago, and haven't used it yet! Which just feels wrong...

I also ordered two Flip Ultra video recorders (the new 2nd gen ones) for our parents' wedding presents today, and I'm already trying to figure out how I can "borrow" one for marathon weekend in Jan. :rotfl:

Hey warriors!

Sarah--Totally unlimited beer. And it was only 20 dollars to register! I was in heaven! And like I said, it was GOOD beer. They just kept refilling the 20 oz cup you see in my picture!!

Jeff--Little D is totally overgrown! Not surprising though with me being 5'11" and DH 6'2" I have pictures of her in that stroller when she was 4 months old and she looks so so tiny! I actually am in the market for a really really good jogging stroller. I need to get rid of the crappy one I have. I am going to have to do a lot of my mickey training with Delena.

Kate--Saw the wedding pics on FB! Great dress! It looks like you had fun!

Tracy-WTG on the push ups! I am such a wimp with push ups! I can do one or two real ones before I have to switch to girlie ones!! We had friends visiting from TN who tried to see the shuttle too. I felt so bad for them that it was cancelled. I hope to see a launch before the shuttle it retired.

Hey Warriors!

Did 7 miles on Sunday pushing the double stroller and chasing my mom and Emma on their bikes (they kept forgetting about me and would go from 8 minute miles to dead stops! Basically I'd lose them and then almost ram them...) It was so hot- I didn't have pistol pinkies, I had pruny pinkies from my death grip on the stroller! Ran about 1 mile on the beach- much better experience in theory. ;)

Skipped yesterday because sat in jury room for 6 hours- didn't get picked, but was sooooo boring. By 4 p.m., the heat index was over 100 degrees and I couldn't face it. Out of curiosity, I checked again at 9 p.m.- still over 100!!

Went running today at about 10 a.m. You guessed it, HOT! The only really good side effect to running in the heat?! NO DOGS. They have the sense to stay inside.

Hope everyone is still doing well. Cracking up over Lily's dancing- I'm so not a dancer, although I am totally hooked on So You Think You Can Dance...

I'm glad to hear everyone is getting some miles in. I finally updated my miles on the spreadsheet, but I didn't post my 5 hour days when I volunteered for the bike ride.

Marcia - hey you!! I went and looked at Week 3 for the 100 pushup challenge and you have to re-evaluate your self at that point. I am not ready to move on because I was doing column 1 and at the end of week two the most you do is 8. I can do about 14 without dying, so I am not ready to move on as they say 16 in a row is where you need to be. So I am going back to week two, column 2 and see how that works out.
Can't wait to be able to afford to fly out and hang with you in San Fran some day!!

All those doing the 100 pushup challenge - keep us up to date as how you are doing.

Did 5.10 sweaty miles inbetween lightening alarms at the parks. Gotta love those things!!

Hey there Warriors!

Tracy: Totally hear you about not being able to move on the week 3 of the push-up challenge. I'm repeating week 2 right now and then maybe I'll be able to move on. Even though I was able to do enough to move on according to the "test", I just could not do day 3 of week 3! Girls with girly upper bodies, unite! :lmao:

I'm continuing to taper for my half marathon next weekend; my knee bothered me after my 10 mile run a couple weeks ago (but not after my 14 mile run a month ago, go figure) so I'm trying to bike more to keep the cardio up, but not wreck my joints with the pounding. I've even been biking to work (even though it takes me just as long as walking, what with locking and unlocking my bike and such) to get my heart rate up a bit more than my normal "commute walking" speed. I did run 4 miles last night in 45 minutes.... so many idiots with dogs off-leash on the path last night! Ugh!

I also biked to the Big 5 Sports store in Ballard (about 5 miles away) on Monday and picked up a half price training swimsuit. I'm looking forward to getting some swimming in at the cottage next month! I think I'm even ready to try the swim leg of the relay "triathlon" (because it's done on an island the biking is traded for canoeing) again during the regatta weekend in early August. It's a 1000 m open water swim and I did it almost three years ago with no preparation and nearly died, and said I'd never do it again. But, it's always hard for teams to find swimmers (runners and canoers are easy, however) and I think I'll give it a try again this year. I'm in much better overall shape this year, and I'll have a couple weeks beforehand to practise my open-water swimming!

Hey hey!

Sarah i didn't realise you taught over here! Was that primary or secondary? He didn't get it, which is such a shame as it would have been perfect. To be honest he did so so well, got to the last 3 out of 100 applicants. Very proud still! Def go for the triathlon, you have the kit and determination so you can do anything :goodvibes

Amy thanks about the dress, it was a lovely wedding. A new jogging stroller sounds brilliant, i'm looking forward to seeing Delena in a shiny bouncy new one preparing for Mickey!

Erika yay welcome back  good job getting 6 miles in

Michelle so good to hear from you, your hubby did brilliantly. I'm not surprised you're very proud of him. Sorry it was so hard watching the others compete, but i bet that's encouraged you even more and given you lots of inspiration.

Stacey hey!!!! 2 miles and pilates is fab. What lovely adventures were you upto with your family?

Jen way to go running 7 miles with a double stroller!!! how on earth do you do it! Jury duty doesn't sound fun at the best of times, never mind spending so long and not being selected. Are you relieved?

Jeff by 'hot' miles you mean that you looked hot when you ran right :rotfl: nothing to do with the heat!

Marcia look after your shoulder- ouchy! i feel like you should be able to post your volunteering times because they were awesome.

Tracy you sound very sensible repeating the week on the push up challenge. I can't do them at all so I'm very impressed by you guys. Are there actual lightning alarms that sound in the park? How strange! I've been weather watching (only *** my iphone monitors orlando!) and everyday says thunder!

Me! Went out with running club to out racecourse on tuesday for 5.5 miles including speedwork. It's actually a lovely run down there along a cycle path, canal and then river 'promenade' (no beach chairs or ice cream tho ). Then went to another spinning class with my friend, an hour of panting and giggling! The instructor told us off for having too much fun :rotfl: Nothing so far today, might hop on Wii in bit tho.

Bye bye for now :grouphug:

Kate: This past week the afternoon temps have been in the 89-92 degree range. If there are no tradewinds, then it's well over 100 degrees when you factor in the heat index (reflected heat off the pavement).

Makes for uncomfortable run, and I'm soaking wet and covered in salt sweat when I'm done. Not to mention a stinkin' mess. We run 8 1/4-10 miles on weekdays, and 14 on Sunday.

Riding my bike isn't as bad, because I'm creating a wind draft as I'm riding.

Good training everyone.

Hellooooo Warriors ~

I'm glad to hear everyone is getting some miles in. I finally updated my miles on the spreadsheet, but I didn't post my 5 hour days when I volunteered for the bike ride.

I hurt my shoulder throwing a whiffle ball in the office yesterday, old rotator cuff injury...so I'm laying off the push up challenge for a week or so. Someone threw it to me from down the hall, so I had to throw it back. :rotfl2:

Our Summer in the San Francisco Bay area, CA....overcast and cold in the morning. So it's nice running weather, not hot in this part of the U.S.

Have a good day!

Hey Jeff, did you break this thing? Seems like everyone IS quiet. Must be out there working at it I'd be guessing.

Good job on those push ups. I never could manage those things. Maybe I should play.

Sarah, congratulations on going Goofy!

Marcia, sorry about your shoulder. That is really something, All that schlepping you did with those bikes and such and you get it by a wiffle ball. Ugh.

Jeff, you are amazing to be getting in all you do in that heat. It is Crazy, or rather, I guess I should say You are Crazy! I heard you say that!

I got out today between rain moments and put in some more steps. It was quite humid. I took out Kirby for a bit and he gave out on this one too. Jus laid there for a bit and finished up the last bit. He was doing so much better than the last time. I thought this was a good day, then it heated up and it was all over.

Hey Warriors!!

Kate: Yes, all the parks in this area have Lightening alarms. When activity is within a certain distance a long alarm is sounded and you are suppose to seek shelter. When no activity has occured after 20min the it sounds 3 tones and you can go back out. Comes in handy.

Marcia: how is you shoulder??

Sarah: hope the tapering is coming along nicely. don't go too mad and don't go doing taper shopping!! haha

Things are going well with me. SIgned up for a local 5K on July 4th so living up to my name!! haha

Hello everyone!! Sorry I haven't been checking in that much... I've kind of been avoiding the Dis. No particular reason I just haven't felt like having so much Disney stare me in the face ( I know... what's wrong with me?) Glad to see how well everyone's doing! Keep it up!

Kat well done for doing a fab audition, even tho no space for you quite yet. So how does that work? Do you have to re-audition or will they hold you on file?
- I will have to audition again in 6 months. I would go sooner- but Disney's rule is that you can't audition again until 6 months have passed. (oh well- another excuse to go to Disney in Dec. or Jan!)

Kat - There will always be another audtions, I'm sure there's a spot for you somewhere.
Thank you! :lovestruc

Hurray, Saturday, Warriors!

Kate: I taught middle school in Suffolk County, which is pretty much the only place where you can teach middle school. And actually, the school I taught at is being closed after next year in an effort to make Suffolk conform with the rest of the country, which is unfortunate. Anyway, congrats to your boyfriend for making it so far in the interview process! I'm sure he'll find a great position for next year!

Jeff: Again, we :worship: you for your crazy dedication in hot weather. I've become such a Seattlite.... 75 now feels like a crazy heatwave to me! :lmao:

Tracy: I am sad to say that shopping of all sorts has lost all of its appeal to me right now. I am currently getting at least one package a day of stuff that's been ordered online for the wedding. Ugh. I didn't realize how many little odds and ends are involved in wedding planning!

Lily: Looking forward to meeting you here in Seattle next week! Looks like it's supposed to rain. :lmao:

As for me, I did 7.1 miles and 1:22 today as our last Saturday long run with the Joints in Motion peeps. Despite the nice cool weather (high of 65 today), I was feeling kind of "blah" throughout my run, but I got it done, so that's all that can be hoped for. We also had an unexpected guest at our run for the first mile or so.... a doe frolicked in the brush on the side of the trail for almost an entire mile, just ahead of our group as we ran, before a pack of cyclists scared her off into the woods. It was pretty neat - I've never seen a deer so fearless! I took a 3 hour nap this afternoon after a fabulous celebratory brunch at my favorite Seattle cafe. Turns out gyro meat, feta cheese, artichokes, olives, tomatoes and zucchini are delicious in an omlette!

Sarah wow middle school's are very rare over here- i only know of one and that was in Derbyshire so a fair way away. What a shame it's closing though. Well done on your last long run and also being joined by such a fearless deer- that's amazing. Now to mention the big one- whoop for GOOFY! Ah so exciting.

Tracy massive congrats on getting over weight plateau and for another sweltering run!

Lily great work getting out there between rain. It's so easy to write off a day before it's up so well done.

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:

What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

Hey Warriors!

Kate: Hooray!!!! That's so exciting that you'll be making it for marathon weekend!

Michelle: Do you have a link (or a link to the book or whatever) for the 30 week training plan you're using for the Goofy? I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to tackle this! :goodvibes

I traded in workout time for a different kind of workout; we rented a carpet cleaner from Home Depot today and spent the whole day moving furniture, vacuuming, and then running that big heavy machine over the carpet and sofa. It was a lot of work, but hopefully it'll help with the allergy problems my fiance and I have both been having. We also took the poor ignored pooch to his favorite dog park for some ball chasing time. He had a Bolt moment where another dog was patiently trying to play with him and Jack finally figured out that he was supposed to chase (and did for a minute) but was still confused as to why. :rotfl:

Hey kids!

So, I took off most of this weekend. I did 4 in the morning on Friday. Usually I whine about being hot, but it doesn't bother me that much. That day I found myself getting chills, and decided that was kind of weird...:rolleyes1 I went straight home! We were under a heat advisory all weekend, so I declared it a rest weekend. ;)

Not to worry though- a cold front is headed our way. The high is supposed to be in the low 90s starting tomorrow.

Kate- I'm still undecided on the marathon weekend- you're making me waver!

Jeff- funky tan line?! How's your sock line? I'm constantly ridiculed for my white feet- I may have to slap some tanning lotion on them, but I'll probably end up with orange feet...

Goofy Warriors- you can do it! I started my "real" training in September with a pretty weak base. I love my Goofy medal from 2008 and sometimes think about doing it again (but not often:laughing:)

Tracy- congrats on beating back that plateau! I'm stuck on one now so you've given me hope.;)

Ok, really must do some work. Emma is at the office today. She's on a computer in the other room, but it's totally embarassing to have your 9 year old daughter bust you for playing on the WISH boards...

Happy Monday to all of the World Famous Warriors!!

I have been out of touch for a few days (& probably out of mind too..... ).

We went to the Bahamas for a Graduation trip for my son (who graduated HS a year early :thumbsup2) (and who I have to start paying for college a year early :scared1:), & work, & life, & this&that, etc., etc., blahblahblahwer9fhrqpoin......................

I have been getting a fair amount of work in. Won't itemize it here but it is on the spreadsheet.

My quiz question for the day:

The current weather in Florida is:

a. hot
b. humid
c. hot AND humid
d. really FREAKIN' HOT!
e. Definitely NOT cool in any way
f. All of the above.

I managed to actually get running before 9 am today. It was 87 when I started w/a RH of the middle 80's. Well over 90 within the hour. After 5 miles my legs were so gone I felt like a freakin' amoeba. Tomorrow, an ocean swim + the bike. The AFAC Tri is 3 months out & my main goal is to do better on the swim. And not drown. Seeing as how I just got certified as a Marine Rescue Tech at work, that would be rather embarrassing.

Hope all are well & not getting killed by the weather. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

smileyk8
06-23-2009, 02:39 PM
Jim a graduation trip to the bahamas is amazing- you have a very lucky son. I'm guessing the answer was f to the weather then! Sorry it's so hot- we had a florida style rain storm an hour ago, it just made me smile as I imagined standing in a park with my poncho on :rotfl:

Skipped run club tonight to head to the gym. Following orders i did more weight work for my hamstring to get it sorted and a 3.3 miles TM run. Not too bad really.

Quick random question- what's the transport like to the 5km at Marathon Weekend? Do they bus from each resort and do they run at specific times? Trying to convince mum it won't be a hassle and that she REALLY wants to do it :goodvibes

Sarah_Rose
06-23-2009, 02:41 PM
Jen: That is so funny about you being busted by your 9 year old for WISHing at work. What kind of lessons are you teaching her? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Kate: Yay for registering for the marathon! It's so exciting that you are making it to WDW in Jan! And good work getting all the swimming in!

Jim: I can't do anything but throw in some sympathy about the really freaking hot and humid weather. I know I couldn't run in that kind of heat, so I'm so impressed!

So my criticism of WISHing at work is entirely pot and kettle, since I am currently at work and have done NOTHING and it's 11:30. It's my last week before my month leave of absence for my wedding (getting married 2500 miles away and then having your best friend's wedding two weeks after yours does have SOME perks) and all my projects for the summer were wrapped up last week, so I'm pretty much just biding my time right now.

I have not been feeling fabulous this week (mostly just tired and worn down) so I'm taking it easy before my half on Saturday. Might get in a run after work (hahahahaa! Work!) today, but we'll see. This close to an event, it's just not worth pushing the extra miles if you're not feeling them. Or so I tell myself.

27.7 mile bike ride at 18 mph + pace. It's a LITTLE "cooler" today. Highs in the upper 80's/low 90's instead of the upper 90's.

Sarah: I do agree with you, don't push a run unless you feel the need. Tapering is good and will make your event sooo much better. WISHing at work is kinda fun in a sneaky sort of way.

Kate: Transport to the 5K has been provided from every hotel and is not a bother what so ever!! Tell your Mom not to worry. My Mom will be doing it again this year and she is bringing a friend to join her!!

I did a 3.10 drippy rainy miles. I used a flotation device, skis, a paddle, and whatever else I could find. Hey, but I got it done right. Hoping to start week three of the hundred push up tomorrow!

Doesn't sound like anyone has nice weather right now! We had speed drills at the track tonight. I checked the local WeatherBug online right as we pulled into the track...96 degrees at 7pm!!! :cool2: Ouch! I guess I shouldn't have looked. Oh well...3.5 miles worth of a speed pyramid later, I actually didn't feel too bad.

My arms on the other had are not happy with me today! (I keep telling them it's all Tracy's fault!) I got peer pressured into joining in on the 100 push up challenge. Last night was day 1 of week 1 and I am already wondering why I am doing this to myself. Now the 200 sit up challenge is looking very tempting! Just popping in quick to let you know I am still alive. Busy Busy week. Delena's 2nd birthday, SIL coming into town for a weeks visit starting tomorrow. I have been keeping up with the miles and minutes chart though.

I have THREE races in July!! Lots of double miles.

July 19th-Stowe 8 miler-Stowe, VT (FREE beer and ice cream at the finish)
July 26th-Vermont Race for the Cure 5k- Manchester, VT

Also starting to look at what I am going to do for training for the full. Will most likely follow MfM plan, using some kind of run/walk.

Keep up all the good work everyone!!

Hey there Warriors!

Sounds like everyone is getting in the miles, despite some.... less than friendly weather. Should I mention, then that we've been hanging around 70 degrees here for awhile, now? I would prefer it to be warmer, but it's about perfect for running!

Alright, I'm at work today. Talk me out of walking to REI on my lunch to buy a new pair of running socks, please! There's nothing wrong with my old ones, but I kind of want to try the thick cushioned ones for the half marathon on Saturday, but I know not to use anything different on race day, and there's a chance the thick cushioned ones won't even fit in my running shoes. I know this. And yet I still want to walk to REI at lunch (less than a mile away!) to plunk down $12 for socks. I call it pre-race madness.

I did make it out for another 4 miles last night before my half marathon, but now I'm done. My calves feel tight today (I blame the unescapeable hills in Seattle!) so I'm just going to stretch and rest until Saturday. Oh, and hydrate. :thumbsup2 The street closures notices signs were up this morning, so we must be close!

Hey Warriors-

Did 4 miles yesterday and 5 miles today. I've never run through the summer- I'm hoping if I can keep it up, I'll be really fast and thin before I start training for winter races! ;) :rolleyes1 Of course, I may need to cut back on the calories for both of those goals.

Carrie- good luck with your tri! There's one here for kids this August. Emma's totally excited, which boggles my mind... of course, right now she's all talk, no training.

Sarah Rose- did you get the socks? I've worn new socks before a couple of races- it worked out just fine, but it did give me a lot of anxiety to break the "nothing new" rule!

Amy- sweet schedule!

Jeff- 6:35 pace?! Who you calling nuts?!:woohoo:

As for WISHing at work, I seem to be doing it again. But, I left out the information that I am self-employed (well, I work with my husband, but he can't fire me!) So, really WISHing is better than going down to the coffee shop for a guilt free latte freezer, right?...:rolleyes1

Ok, I bought the socks. :lmao: And the worst part is it starting raining about 5 minutes out from REI, and then didn't stop until I was 30 seconds from being back to the office. And I was wearing a white cotton cardigan. And I got to sit for the rest of the afternoon in my wet cardigan at my desk. I also got into a discussion with the guy in the REI socks section about my wacky feet that dislocate bones in themselves if I don't run in the one specific shoe model that I've managed to find that works, along with Thorlos socks. I can't even make stuff like that up.

Here's hoping the new socks don't jynx the race! :lmao:

Hey Hi to all our busy Warriors!

I'm packed, and ready to go. I look forward to Seattle. I will eliminate a couple items from the suitcase in a sec and will be set.

Sarah, ugh on the rain and the sock/shoe issues. I've got a couple different sets of socks so changing styles isn't as bad for me. Shoes I use two different styles there too. Lucky me I guess.

Carrie, good luck with your tri this weekend.

Amy, good job on getting in 3 events next month. That's a good way to stay on target with training.

Jeff, us Warriors, nuts. Really? Aw sure that'w why not! :dance3:

Keep at it everyone. We're getting stronger and better. Yes we are!

It was too hot to do any walking with Kirby dog today. He's been in and out of the house panting from the heat when he comes back inside to the A/C.

Carrie: Good luck with the TRI!

Sandy: I had a feeling you would get the socks.

Michelle: Yes, 100 pushup challenge - gotta love it!! I just started week 3 after repeating week2. I have START the 200 SITUP CHALLENGE!! Doing week one column 2. OK so, you gonna join me?

Have a good Wednesday everyone!!

Warriors - NUTS?? I'm good with that!:cool1:

Good luck Seattle WISHers!

Sarah - Hope the socks are good to you! After hwat you went through getting them, they'd better be!

Jen - Too funny! I really wanted my niece to od a tri this yeaer, but I can't help her train from 3 hours away. :-( Sadly, our new trianing facility even has a kids tri this summer.

Love to call out to everyone, but must get to work. ;)

Oh, did 12 miles on the bike yesterday. It was HOT. OK, not Jim hot, but considering that we were only in teh low 60s until 2 weks ago, mid 80s and humid was tough.

Ok Tracy, I did W1D2 of push ups last night. My arms/shoulders are killing me!:headache: You started the sit ups already too?!? Ok...ok...I'll start tomorrow.

Hit the lake last night for a great swim! Not sure exactly how far it was (it was further than usual) but we were swimming for 30 minutes total! We all took our kids with us and switched off kid duty. Once everyone was back in from their swim, we all decided that it would have been a good idea to bring dinner with us next time. Can't wait for next week!

Keep it up Warriors!

really quick drop in just to say i went to spinning last night... without my friends which was a LOT scarier! all good once got going though. Woke up with really painful back that i'm guessing is just a result of having a fan when i was sleeping. Stupid fan! :rotfl:

Amy i've just noticed your racing schedule! You're amazing!

06-25-2009, 08:28 PM
Good Luck Seatle Wishers!!!!

Kate: Sorry about the back. Funny, in FL you can't really survive without a ceiling fan, so I sleep under one all the time. Saves on the AC also.

Michellel: Yep shoulders will kill - which column are you on?? I did column one as I could barely do one pushup when I started. I then went to column 1 in week 2 and then column 2 week two. Now I am on Week 3 column 1. I decided to start the situps - hey YOU called it out, so I started. I figured I would do them the same days as the pushups. Week 1 day 1 column two - wasn't too hard, so give it a try. So far much easier than the pushups.

I went out to the dump tonight after work!! I love that place.
BTW: I have a 5k this weekend to do with DDD Tricia up in Deerfield beach and then a 5K July 4th, so I am trying to keep up with my name! haha

Have a great night my GREAT team members!!

I've officially made my fundraising goal for the Arthritis Foundation for the Rock n Roll Seattle Half Marathon!!!! All it took was some last minute pleading... :lmao::rotfl::banana::yay::woohoo::cheer2::hippie: :wizard:

Have a great race all you Seattle racers!:cheer2::cheer2:

Tracy - I know, I know...I started the whole sit up thing. My plan is to do the initial test tonight and then start on Monday so I can keep the same schedule as the push ups. I started in column 2. Will be done with week 1 tonight! WooHoo!:woohoo:

Yesterday was my rest day, so I have some mileage on tap for tonight. Shouldn't be bad tonight, but our forecast for tomorrow is 110!!!:cool2::headache: Don't think I'll even step outside tomorrow!!! Did I move to Death Valley and nobody told me??:confused3

GO SEATTLE WARRIORS!!!

So, can I justify skipping my run yesterday as sort of a "tapering in spirit" thing for our Seattle racers?! (Does it count that I had fajitas instead of running?:rolleyes1)

We'll be thinking of you, and want lots of race reports!!:woohoo:

Enjoy Seattle lovely warriors! Hope it's brilliant and can't wait to hear all about it!

Tracy thanks, back's a lot better this evening- that's what you get for having a desk fan directed at you! Still giggle when i read you've been to the dump!

Jen i've definitely heard of fajita tapering- it's very effective!

Michelle you poor thing! 110 degrees is horrendous! We've got heatwave warnings for next week and it's only 90 :rotfl: we're just not set up for a heat- a visit your vulnerable relatives week has been launched

Sarah well done reaching your goal, that's incredibly impressive. You're ready for action now :woohoo:

Carrie great 12 mile ride and it does sound tough- that's a heck of a temperature jump.

I did 6.2miles again in 55mins, took it carefully at first as got a few back spasms- think i looked a little bit special :rotfl:

Go warriors go!

I'm sorry i have another marathon weekend question.... it's going to get bad, we've still got 6 months to go! Ok, i'm well on track for convincing DMum to do the 5k, but wondered about packet pickup as we're not guaranteed to make it to the expo thurs. Anyone know if they are likely to have late pick up friday morning like last year? thanks he he he

Hey Warriors!

Had a great run on a fantastic course, today! Also, a new PR: 2:24:22 for the 13.1. The race was really well-organized and the course was a lot of fun - it took us through one of the nicer areas of the city, along Lake Washington with a fantastic breeze off the lake, and then we got to run along some of the areas that I NEVER thought anyone could ever run on. :lmao: My favorite part was going along the I-90 express lanes through a tunnel that was about 0.6 of a mile long. There was a band playing about 2/3 of the way through (the sound was so distorted by the tunnel that it was surreal, but still awesome!) and every minute or so someone would yell to hear their voice echo and the shouts and cheers would move like a wave through the runners as everyone joined in.

I met up with some other WISHers (including Warrior Lily!) at the expo yesterday, and then again today at the starting corrals and for dessert (I slept through dinner!) after the race. It has been really great to meet and spend time with everyone, and it's making me really look forward to the January weekend!

Also, double miles for the Warriors! :woohoo: And now the Goofy training begins.... :lmao:

GREAT JOB Sarah!!!! AWESOME time on your Half!!!
Don't forget to post a race report on that thread!!!!

I'm so glad you got to meet up with fellow warrior Lily!!!

Yep, our training for January will start soon enough. I hope everyone is starting to look at there plans, wriring then down, maybe keep a journal and go ahead and write in the miles that you need to do and on what days. This is what I do. I write it out ahead of time and just check them off as I do them.

Here is a good quote I found for us older/more life years people...
"Once you get older, Quit starts to workout with you. Quit is never invited to the workout but is always there on your shoulder saying, 'You don't have to do this. You don't have to push yourself.' " Ed Reed, Pro Football Player.

I will officially start my Half Training towards the end of August as I have a Half Marathon (the spacecoast half) the weekend of Thanksgiving.

ALMOST my peeps, then end of the month is creeping up on us. Please make sure you are posting you miles on the spreadsheet/ or keeping tranck and post at the end of the month.

The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32479517&postcount=1077) on the 'Ohana thread.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer:stitch:

Ah, it's summer. The 4th of July is right around the corner. Summer always strikes me as the time for family vacations and road trips. And I'm sure many of us who are traveling are either participating in races--and :worship: to those of you doing events in the summer heat--or we're continuing to train. So...these random thoughts made me think about the challenges of traveling for WISHers, whether traveling to an event or for other reasons.

This week's mixer asks you to share your best tips and strategies for traveling. We're interested in all things related to staying active on the road, from packing your gear to what kind of exercise you prioritize while squeezed for time and in unfamiliar territory.

A sampling of possible questions: What are the must-brings? How much to pack? How to pack your gear--tips and mistakes to avoid? How to best deal with bulky shoes and stinky clothes? What kind of XT do you do while away from home--do you have anything you bring with you?? What about your guidelines for running/walking in areas with which you're unfamiliar?

I'll probably ask a race-specific traveling question closer to January, but tips on race packing are always appreciated. And those of you who are on the road frequently, for business or pleasure, your expertise is much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Morning Warriors.

GREAT JOB Sarah!!!

I am starting week 3 of Goofy training! Unfortunately, a major heat wave is still on top of us. Forcast for yesterday was 110...we only hit 108! Woohoo!:lmao: I had 6 miles to do and started at 7am when the temp was already 80...by about 9:30 it was already 90! It was a very hot run for so early in the morning. It didn't help that I was in super slow mo! I was only working off of 4 hours sleep!!! Grandma was coming home on the train...which didn't come in until 12:45am! After taking her home and then getting back home myself, I didn't get to bed until 2am. So that 6am alarm was not pleasant! Oh well...I got it done! At least today is a rest day!

Sarah_Rose

Tracy: Thanks for the training tips! I already have my Goofy spreadsheet all worked up, but I still need to write it up in my calendar so that I can check off each day as I go.

Michelle: That is unreal heat! I think you need to borrow some fajita tapering tips from Jen, along with a nice cold margarita. :lmao:

Me, I'm totally jazzed about running, just as I go into my.... month of no running. :lmao: I'm reading Marathoning for Mortals right now, still super-pumped from the Rock n Roll Seattle Half, and have new shoes and a new running skirt to try out! James and I each got a pair of Asics Gel Nimbuses (slightly worn - returned within the 30 day trial period) for $85 TOTAL at the Seattle RnR expo and I'm itching to try them out - I've never bought a pair (I can never find a pair of normal width ones in stores and didn't want to buy a pair online without trying them on) but have been told that they should work well for my feet and stride, and want to see how they work. Also, the RunningSkirt.com twins were at the expo and I ended up with a minidot (like Minnie Mouse print) skirt. I didn't mean to but.... it was cute. And it fit. And I... wanted it. So, I'm bringing my running gear with me on my wedding roadtrip, but I doubt I'll get much of a chance to run - oh well, it'll make me feel better having it!

I also got the chance to go on a day trip to Mount Rainier on Sunday with the other Seattle RnR WISHers. It was absolutely fantastic, and great to spend more time with these wonderful people! :goodvibes

And lastly..... I got my Goofy confirmation today! I had to use the paper form because I was upgrading from Mickey to Goofy, and I'm so excited that I got in before it filled up! I was already so jazzed about it, I don't know what I'd do if I hadn't gotten in!

Happy Monday warriors!!

Another fun filled Florida day, & all I have to say is..................

Holy CRAP it is HOT down here!!!!! At 0930 today I hit the road to 90+ temperature and 80%+ RH. Needless to say my grand plan of 7-8 miles rapidly disintegrated into a 4.3 mile slogfest.

And ya' know what? When I sweat REALLY profusely (like today ), I become a real skankasaurus & my family (INCLUDING THE DOGS!! ) won't come within 10 feet of me.

Hopefully I'll get better acclimated as the summer goes along. Definitely need to drink (lots) more before & during my runs right now.

And hopefully it will get COOLER!!!!! 7 or 8 lousy degrees!!!! Is that TOO MUCH to ask for??? C'mon, toss me a bone here. I'm (& everyone else in Florida) dyin' here !!

Ok, posting my miles for June so I don't get in trouble! 110 miles and 22 hours total!

Jim- Don't feel bad- my planned 4 yesterday turned into 3 and my 5 today turned into about 3.75. It was pretty horrible. I just ordered a sweatband because the sweat running into my eyes is killing me- my children will be humiliated.;) I just keep telling myself that I'll be really fast when the fall temperatures finally hit...

3 miles worth of speed drills for me last night to wind up June. Although, I don't know that I should technically call what I did speed drills. It was extremely hot still and I was having stomach issues, so it was all I could do to sludge out my 3 miles!:sad2:

Onward and upward!

Tracy - I tried to update the spreadsheet this morning but for some reason it wouldn't let me type in the numbers - probably something wrong with my crazy computer - it has about had it! I had 37 miles and 11hrs 14 mins this month.

Hopefully no more injuries for July.

I work for 2 more nights and then off the Fort Wilderness for 5 days!! Can't wait - it has been about 4 years since we have been to Disney! Planning on continuing with the C25K while we are there. Today we are starting week 4 - which is kind of scary for me since we run for a total of 16 mins - it will be the most I have ran in a very very long time. Hopefully I will make it though!!

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July!! pixiedust:

Hello Warriors -

I've been going to the gym and putting in a few miles along the way. Not as many as I should be putting in, but at least its something.

Tracy can you send me the link for the spread sheet? I'm at work and I don't have the link here.

Also I was wondering how many Warriors are going to run the DL half in September? I know Jeff, myself and Michelle are...anyone else? I'm trying to get a deal on park hoppers, so if you want in PM me. I don't have the childrens rate yet, I left a message for him this morning to see if he has childrens passes, so I'll get back to you on that one Michelle.

Have a great day everyone!
