View Full Version : Anyone use ENTERTAIN code at Dollar?

For our time period, Dollar has the best rates on an intermediate car rental. However, I used the promo code ENTERTAIN and I can't figure out if there are any restrictions on it or if I need a coupon.

This promo code gave a much better rate than either MCC or FVG but I want to make sure I'm eligible to use it.

I'd call Dollar and ask about it, but what I've seen happen before is that once someone calls and asks about a code it sometimes gets yanked. For example, the USA code at Avis.

Since we have the Entertainment book I'm hoping it's linked to that, but I can't find any mention of it on the web site or in the entertainment book.

Anyone know where this promo code came from or what the restrictions are?

I tried using that code for my august trip, it was the same price for me as the FISH code, but the rate category said MATAM, I don't know if that helps you at all......

Thanks DTauer.
I used the code on their site, and sure enough my July rate dropped to $99/ week for economy car (instead of $120 before). I called the customer number, but they say their computer show a $200 rate with the same code. They told me the rate is outdated. They advised me to stay with my $120 rate. They told me I don't really need a coupon "but it would be better if you have it with you at checkin". I do not know what that means.

But I made the reservations online anyways, which still honor this code. And nowhere from their site says I need a coupon. I'm going to keep my 2 reservations for now. And see if others reply. I'm nervous too, as to what proof I need to have at checkin. But it's a $30 difference in base rate and that's alot.

BTW, does anyone know what's the latest time I can cancel my reservations w/o penalty???

I would like to know about this also. Anyone know where this code came from? I just used it and it showed 125+taxes for a week for an intermediate. total was 164.xx. I have a compact booked for 197.xx in august. booked the entertain code anyways just in case. if i have to i will just cancel it if i need coupon or anything.

I just booked a reservation using ENTERTAIN for Sept. 7-14, and here are some observations:

The e-mail confirmation Dollar sends you does not say anything about a discount code or a coupon, only the base rate and the extra taxes/fees. If you print out the e-mail and take it to the counter, I'm sure they will honor the rate.

2. Here are some rate comparisons for an Intermediate to be rented Sept. 7-14, 2002, reserved on 6-18-02.

No code: $264.97 base, $327.09 total

MCC code: $174.99 base, $222.37 total

ENTERTAIN code: $125.00 base, $164.18 total

3. Even if you're worried, it couldn't hurt to book with this rate now and save the printout. You could then look for the best "backup" reservation with a different company on the chance (slim, IMHO) that Dollar doesn't honor this rate.

We are using a minivan for 10 days in October
and I got a better rate with the FGV coed. Our base is 289.97. With Entertain it was 339.
I would recommend trying all codes you find to see what is best for you!
I also agree that with your printed confirmation they should give you that rate regardless if you 'forgot' the actual ad or coupon.

Does anyone know where this promo code came from. Since it says 'Entertain' I would almost expect it would be from an Entertainment Book? If this is the case, would they require a coupon? It would be interesting to hear back from anyone who has used this code....

I just got a great rate with the entertain code for an intermediate car of 125 for a week, with the fish code I could only get a compact car for 149! so all in all the entertain code was the best for me! with taxes it comes to 164 instead of 209!
I figure instead of spending 100 for a limo,(I have a coupon for an upgrade from a towncar) plus whatever a taxi would cost us to go from the dolphin to DTD I am better off getting the car for the week! Thank you for the code info!

I just used ENTERTAIN and got 9 days in Nov. for $151.00 for an economy car which I had previously reserved for $175.00. The confirmation is a legal document and doesn't have any 'small print' exclusions. The base rate per week is $99. I finally scored a car for the same $$ as last year!

So, what is the cancellation policy? I currently have 2 ressie, one with FISH, one with ENTERTAIN. I plan to keep the entertain one, since I did talk to the operator on the phone, and she told me I don't need to have the coupon, "but it would be nice if you do". Whatever that means.

When should I cancel my other ressie w/o penalty?

I'm going on their web site and cancel there. I don't know how long before one should do this. I seem to remember that 24 hrs is enough from playing this game last year.

Thanks so much!!! I just used it and it saved me over $50 on a 3 day rental!! You guys are awesome.

I read my fine print and it doesn't mention a coupon, etc. So it should be okay.

I just went into my original reservation for a compact $124.99 using FVG and changed it to a intermediate for $125.00 using ENTERTAIN. This is for a 6 day rental at MCO in August. Thanks for the tip.

what code did you use? What type of car?
I hope I got the best deal possible but Entertain was not cheaper than mcc for me??? We have a ten day stay and the extra days are what kill you!

patty, i used the entertain code and before i was using fvg code weekly rate on fullsize went from 189 to 140.

Wow and Thanks! I don't know anything about the origin of the ENTERTAIN rate, but it just saved me a ton on our September trip. Booked a full size for $140 a week ($181 including taxes). I printed my confirmation and everything seems in order!

;)
Try a few rate codes!
HVG was $600+
ENTERTAIN was $340ish
and MCC code was $298!
these rates were for a minivan for 10 days!
So even though Entertain may have saved you $ another code may save you more!;)

I just tried this code and it saved me $47 on a minivan ($230 vs $249 a wk). I could save $139 on a full size for 2 wks but we decided to go with the minivan for more room and the built in carseats. This is the best deal I could find, and I have spent MANY hours online trying to get a decent price. We are doing a one way rental and some of the prices I came across for a minivan were over $1,000 for 2 wks

Why dosen't someone just call the 800 number at Dollar and ask the rep if there are any restrictions when using the code "entertain"?

RobinLyn
06-23-2002, 04:24 PM
I called the #800 and you don't need a coupon, AAA card or any special ID for use of code MCC, ENTERTAIN or FVG as travelcoupons has implied. I have the 2002 Entertainment Book and there is no coupons for Dollar Rent A Car. My husband and I have already used the MCC code with no problem on a business trip to Orlando (MCO). I suggest if anyone is concerned call the toll free number, 1-800-800-3665. Codes targeted towards spanish speakers?? Wow, now that's one I never heard of.

I already called when the thread first started, but was given a very vague answer. The operator says 'it would be nice if you have the coupon'. I told her I don't, and she says I'll be taking a chance.

So, I really don't know, but I'm going to keep this ressie.

'it would be nice if you have the coupon"

I guess that would imply that there is a coupon in some edition of the Entertainment Book somewhere or..........the rep is not familiar
with the rate code and just stated that to cover for his/her lack
of knowledge. A email to Dollar would probably clarify everthing
and save some people a hassle after a longggg flight. I would email them but I don't use Dollar.

I wonder if this code is for the 2003 Entertainment book which will be due out in about a month or 2?? (DOLLAR is not one of the car rental companies in the 2002 edition.)

This code could not have come from a conference because the code works NATIONWIDE

mata3
06-24-2002, 02:52 PM

Unlikely that it orginated from a yet to be published edition of Entertainment......it mostly came from a special promotion aimed at a conference or group that someone got a hold of and published on a travel board such as this one.

Again a simple email may save alot of worry and disappointment.

if this code is time limited....as might be the case with a conference etc.... it seems to work for first week in december....

just an observation

I should of post this earlier here, but I can tell everyone that the promo code MCC is from the "Official Orlando Accommodations Guide" which I received in a Florida Information/Coupon package "free" in the mail. It is an ad for the state of Florida, a Dollar Rent A Car ad, in this small type magazine and is offered to anyone who knows about it.

FYI. I tried the MCC code for a mid-July compact car rental, and it doesn't save me more money than FISH. Entertain is still the cheapest so far.

I cannot say this enough:

TRY ALL OF THE CODES!

I think that it depends on the type of vehicle - date of stay - length of stay or another factor because even though everyone else got better rates with a different code I got the best rate for what I wanted with MCC. I keep trying the new codes too! But I don't think that I will beat $289 for a minivan for 10 days!:bounce:

After reading this thread, I decided to check rates using different codes for 5 days, starting Nov. 6. This is for a compact (neon)

Codes FISH, FVG, and MCC were all a base of $124.95
Code Entertain was $150.00
No Code was $204.85

So, it definitely pays to find out about codes and try different ones.

Hello from rain drenched WDW!! Yes - still raining HARD but go for it guys - arrived an hour late, almost midnight on Tuesday and no one at counter but us and three very nice Dollar clerks. We checked in no problem, signed contract with same ENTERTAIN confirmation price from web booking, and drove away in minutes in a almost brand new full size Intriped with only 800 miles on it. It was a great easy expereince. Hope it works for all of you as easy. We were never asked for any coupon or anything. I didn't have the nerve to ask what it meant - sorry. Well - on to MK as they say it might not rain later.

I used the ENTERTAIN code this past weekend in Minneapolis. It dropped my rate from $59.95/day to $34.99/day. The clerk made a comment that I got a great rate, but never asked for any coupons. I don't think dollar even prints coupons - at least I've never seen one. It's always in the form of a code, I think. Anyway, don't worry, it'll work just fine :-)

So check all the codes.

Wow, so glad I found this thread today, just saved and additional $34.00 for my trip in September using the Entertain code on an Intermediate car.

I tried using the Fish, FVG, MCC codes for the same time period and they all came out to 174.99. But I had already had a reservation for 159.00, so I'll just cancel that and have already made one for 125.00 using the Entertain code.

Thanks to all!!!! You gotta love saving money like this!!!!

dtauer, sounds like entertain code is working and i sure appreciate your sharing it with all of us, it saved me $100 over the other codes, where did you originally find this code?

dtauer
06-28-2002, 08:56 AM
It was actually posted in a thread about free parking I believe. That thread had gotten slightly off topic and one of the posts mentioned the code. Out of curiousity I tried it and it saved me a lot of money.

Not knowing what the restrictions were, I asked a question about it in that thread with no replies. That's why I decided to create it's own thread on Transportation to get more views and hopefully some answers about it.

So the answer to the question about where I found it is right here on DIS.
