Hello everyone!
I was just at WDW for Star Wars Weekend and after two years of contemplation, I joined DVC by buying into Animal Kingdom Villas or as I now know to refer to them as... AKV
I'm hoping that in such a big community there might be some other folks like me, who would want to spend just about every vacation with Disney. Basically, I'm really a big kid at heart who decided I didn't need a husband and a kids to justify the purchase
Although I'm perfectly content to travel alone and enjoy the idea of a quiet weekend watching the animals from my studio; it would be nice to find other solo DVC members who might be traveling at the same time.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself - It's nice to be among people who feel the same way about having Disney adventures!
Cheers,
Beth

Welcome Bethgo. I bought into DVC a few years old and love it. Most of my trips are solo because my kids are grown. Haven't met up with any others from here but I know some do. Get you name and dates out there and there will probably be others that would like to meet up.

Hi Beth!
I bought in a couple years ago and love it. I live 90 minutes away from the World but funny thing is, the majority of DVC owners, live in Florida. I own at SSR and VAK. I also own with my mom too at VAK and BLT. There are a few here on the threads that are single and own. I know they can tell you how much they love it too. We meet up every now and then too.
I can send you a couple threads to check out if you like.
Great Move Beth...:goodvibes I have taken the plunge for a few back and loving it. And being solo has a big downfall... you get to know how to stretch those points and next thing you know you are going to the World 3-4 times a year :p ... Well that has been my handicap LOL being solo... But one day... I will try the GV... :scared: all those space all to yourself!!! Can you imagine!!!! if there is a GV I would like to try that will be at Kidani!!!!!!! the View by the living room is breath taking!!! So is the BC or the BW !!! HAve not seen the GV at WL though!
:welcome: Home neighbor!

Welcome home, Beth! I joined as a single mom 12 years ago, but even then did several solo trips each year in addition to the trips with my son when school was out. Now he's 23, I'm 50, and I have a significant other whose work takes him out of state for 5 months each year. So, I still do several solo trips in addition to our trips as a couple.
I also live 2 or 3 hours away from WDW (depending on where I'm coming from), so the frequent trips are easy & cheap - no airfare, no out-of-pocket lodging, and a FL resident seasonal pass means all I need to buy is food.

Yup, I own at VWL, BWV, and GCV. And despite being solo, I still mainly stay in 1-bedrooms - just spoiled by all that space, I guess :teeth:

Great choice! Although I'm not single, DH is not that keen on Disney and I bought my 100 SSR points with a legacy left to me so I could spend a week in a studio in low season by myself! The only problem is that since I bought in, various family members have invited themselves on my trip!! I dream of owning more points (at either BLT, BWV or BCV) and would LOVE to spend a week in a 1 bedroom on my own!!

Wow! Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and great support on my decision. Yes, Sha if there a couple threads that you'd like to share I'd love to check them out.
I'm thinking of taking my first solo trip in mid-August or so for my birthday. If I do I'll definitely post the dates here to see if anyone wants to meet up and say howdy.
Cheers,
Beth

Welcome Home Beth :cheer2: I am a solo DVC member at SSR and love it. I made the leap two years ago and wish someday to buy an add-on. Somehow the 150 points aren't enough :rotfl:

Welcome Home Beth :goodvibes
I'm a single mom and bought in at SSR sight unseen in 2006. :scared1: One of the best decisions I made!! :thumbsup2
The kids and I went in Jan. 07 and Dec. 07 and had a blast. I just booked our next trip for 10 days in January 2010 in a AKV Savannah view 2 bedroom. Another family will be joining us this time. We are all so excited to go back and to share with our friends.
I am so happy I joined and hope to add on in the next couple of years.

Congrats Beth! I would love to own but living on the west coast it is hard for me to make that commitment. It is good to see some are willing to take the chance. I will say that the last couple of years I have rented points at BWV and SSR and they have been incredible vacations. We also seem to get pretty good airfare out of SeaTac if you are patient. Enjoy your new vacation home.

I'm a widowed dad of three kids, and did the SSR tour while at WDW in may. I loved it so much that I just put an offer in for a 130 point contract.
My kids are small now, 9 yr old son and 5 yr old twins, but I'm sure I'll be going still well after they are grown.

I agree with everyone else... DVC is a big upfront investment, but so worth it - especially when you go as often as I do! :} I actually mooch off my parents who are the official DVC owners - lol Luckily I am their vacation planner so that means I get to go! We bought into Saratoga Springs and I love it there; so relaxing :lovestruc

haha- I'm the same way, even though my mom paid for our DVC (BLT) I am the co-owner on the contract, and she bought enough points that we can each take a week vacation and still have some points left over :thumbsup2

Yes, I am very excited about that:banana:
I'm going in Dec, but staying at OKW. I could only get SSR or OKW for all the days, and other people are going, so instead of trying to waitlist at BCV were we originally wanted to stay, we are going to stay at OKW so we know we'll be at the same resort
and it's only my mom and I on the contract :upsidedow

Something struck me just last night. I just might buy the minimum # of points at, say, Vero Beach (cheaper per point) and take advantage of DVC membership benefits now that I live just about 45 min away from the parks! :)

Yep, I'm single and bought DVC at Beach Club Villas back in 2002 during pre-opening pricing. Love it.
There's no other place I'd rather be for my Food and Wine Festival trips. I've got my December stay there, but I wouldn't mind either "lodge" for that for the holiday decor.
I am really looking forward to Hawaii when it opens, as well as using my points at DLR at the Grand Californian Villas. :goodvibes

Be careful as the dues are considerable higher for Vero Beach, so it might end up costing more in the long run.
If thats your plan, you might want to buy resale at SSR

well look at it this way, you don't have to buy 160 points since you are already a member, so you can just buy a small contract and go from there :upsidedow

Although I'm not single, I often travel to WDW solo. 100 of our points are at Beach Club Villas, just for my solo trips because I love it there and DH much prefers OKW. So our BCV points are "my" points. I just love the studios there-perfect for my solo trips; in the words of Samantha Brown-"like my own little homestead".

nice thing about OKW is that the rooms are bigger. The studios have 2 beds in them vs the queen and a sofa sleep as in the other studios at other resorts. The Boardwalk... well, its near JRs, and have it near 2 parks. And SSR is nice. It was where I first bought... and you can walk to DTD too.

I've been a solo owner (getting married in December) at BWV and have loved being so close to Epcot and the Studios and so many great restaurants and places to go at night. Highly recommended! OKW is nice, but far more spread out, so it depends on what you like. :) It's all good!
The main thing about owning somewhere isn't just that its a place you like, its that you can book there 11 months in advance. I don't mind that for some of the places that I like I have to wait until 7 months because I dont own there.(but am looking to add on from some of the resales)

I too am a solo DVCer. I bought when my son was still at home but now that he's on his own, it's me all the way:lmao: However, I have yet to travel solo. Much of my family had never been so I got to play tour guide:banana: and that is the best thing. I loved the looks on my parents' faces when they walked into the 2br at SSR:laughing: I have family and friends trips planned until 2012 but then maybe I'll be able to take a solo (although I doubt it because WDW is lots more fun when you have someone to share it with:cheer2:)

my sig other does not like disney like me. I bought some small points in VWL so I could take these two day junkets when I get the urge and the flights are very cheap from detroit. Love to sit at the poly and by the pool for a few drinks. It does get a little boring riding by yourself at the theme parks. Never thought of hooking up with other single owners who enjoy this place as much as me. I bought into VWL so I didn't need to rent a car and you are on the loop so to speak. It would be nice to spend a day at the park with another like minded person!!! I had four days in december planned but couldn't get any one to go with me............ who would have thought. So I am back to two days here and there when the air fare is cheap. So if your going and want company let me know what days you will be there. I enjoy the better resturants and good company! Martin
