What happens with leftover food after Disney weddings? I've heard some people mention bringing plastic baggies and bringing home dessert party goodies. What about the regular meal/buffet? Leftover drinks? Do they wrap stuff up for you?

I don't mean to sound cheap but I pay for it, right?!? I may be able to eat through my honeymoon on wedding leftovers!!

I'm not sure about the actual meal, but I asked about leftover cake...they said if you bring boxes or doggie bags, they will box up leftover cake for you

I'm pretty sure the only thing you would be allowed to take is the cake. Due to food safety regulations I doubt they would let you take any actual left over food from the meal (like a piece of steak or something).

Why not? I can take my leftovers from a restaurant, what's the difference?:confused3

I asked this question at my planning session for the popular 'doggie bag for the bride & groom' that alot of the wedding magazines tell you to ask and I got a strict 'no' from my planner - You can take leftover cake though

what about left over bottles of soft drinks? again, i understand that you think its cheap for asking - but you PAY for them heh.

I think its crap about the food though, i mean, you wouldnt want to take home every last scraping of food but if there is a lot left over in your buffet then you should be able to take / or your guests take it home in a box if they wish?

I agree! I think the soda/water/coffee bar package is incredibly expensive per person! Who is going to drink $8 worth of soda in an hour?!?

I'm tempted to buy a bunch of ziplock containers and box up my buffet myself! :cutie:

Unless you are staying where there is a fullsized fridge, its not possible to even store that much food. Our left over cake was boxed up for us in 2 huge boxes. One for the top layer and one for the leftovers from the other two layers. That completely took up the mini fridge in our room. We did take the leftovers from the DP though.

And on the sodas, we had a brunch and only served the juices that were included with our meal and had a water station set up. It saved like $1200.

All of the leftovers for us were thrown out. The only thing that was boxed up was our top layer of the cake. To be honest, that day I wasn't even thinking of boxing up left over food.

It seems like such a waste to throw everything out. Why wouldn't disney box it and donate it to a charity of sorts? I understand tossing stuff thats physically been out on the buffet and picked over - but I am sure that there are extra untouched trays of stuff in the back that never get seen and just tossed.

We drove, so we had a cooler, plus the room fridge. We took all leftover cake back to our room.

Our luncheon was at WCC, and they had just set out full refill platters of food when we decided we were full. We told the staff that we thought it was a waste that they had to throw it all away - so they boxed it up for us and we took it back to our room. Later we handed some out to guests.

For our Dessert Party, there were extra plastic cups, so we put all the leftover desserts & fruit in those and took them back to the room.

We ate BBQ, cake, desserts and fruit for several days! It was yummy and not wasteful. Every 7 seconds a child 10 and under dies from starvation or a starvation related disease, so we're very careful with our food as we know it is precious and we are blessed to have it. I don't care if people think we are cheap, but we carry plastic containers when we eat out at Disney, so we can take home leftovers to snack on later. We were going to take them to the DP but got busy and didn't get back to the room, but luckily there were extra cups to use.

I know that many restaurants do donate leftovers to food pantries and shelters, but a CM told me once that Disney can't (this was at the Poly Luau) because the food would sit too long before they could get it to anyone. Cooked food, esp. rice and meats, can't sit too long or it can get bacteria. The CM said that Disney used to do it, but not any more.

I think WDW could feed a small country daily with all the food that gets thrown away.

Disney has to comply with some pretty strict health regulations, and I'm sure that's why they only make an exception to box up the cake.

I agree! adisneygal's idea of just serving the included beverages on your buffet menu and having a water station is a great one and exactly what we would have done if we'd known such an option existed.

Alternatively, if you really want to serve soda, ask them to do bill-on-consumption soda and bottled water instead of the soda and water package. They will estimate the number they think your guests will drink and charge you for that; then you'll either get a refund or a bill for the difference, but it's almost always a refund.

We did the package and there were SO many sodas left over - what a waste! :sad2:

I know people feel differently about this, but I think it's a complete waste for them to throw away food that you paid for. At my mom's wedding, they boxed up ALL of the leftover food. Disney isn't a destination for us, so I don't see why they wouldn't let us bring it home.
