DIS Twigirls & Twiguys Coven Podcruise Meet
Coven Meet will be Wednesday, December 15th (At Sea Day) at 2:30 p.m. Location to be determined.
For all you Twigirls and Twiguys planning on going on the DIS Podcast Cruise 2.0 on December 12th, let's plan on getting together and be Fangirls and Fanguys together. (Time and location to be determined later.)
We met on the First DIS Podcast Cruise on May 13th and had a great time talking about our favorite parts of the books with a little bit of giggling thrown in at the idea of leaving our stateroom doors open for Edward. :rolleyes1 We even had cake in honor of Rob Pattinson's birthday - and some wine. :rolleyes1
Thread from the first podcruise: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2089121
If the movies stay on the same schedule then Eclipse will have just been released so we should have lots to chat about. (And this will give us an excuse to read the books again - like we need an excuse.) :rolleyes1
Let me know if you would like to attend and I will add you to the list. (I know it is a long time from now but this will give us a chance to have fun for the next year and a half. :yay: Let's face it, there is never enough Twilight in your life. ;))

The enemy is lurking in the background again.....
Actually, I want to work with you guys on this one. IF this happens to be on Nassau day, and IF theres enough interest amongst the non-twilight partners, I'd like to get a group GreyCliff Cigar Co. excursion going. So can you all ask your non-twi partners if they'd be interested?

Hi Tonya, I'd love to be added to the list. I also had another idea that I'd like to throw out for consideration. What do you think about a non-slumber party? There's got to be Twlight jammies out there somewhere! We wouldn't have to stay the whole night.....too crazy?

Here is a great article (especially for Stephan!!!) ;)
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=104347311&sc=fb&cc=fp
Real Men Read (And Love) 'Twilight' — Really
There are — news flash here — true differences between men and women.
A friend who has twins (one boy, one girl) told me the story of when they were down at a pond, and the young twins spotted a cute little duck.
The little girl said, "I want to pet the duck."
The little boy said, "I want to kill the duck."
I rest my case.
And with that gender gauntlet thrown, let me say to you as a meat-eating, Entourage-watching, sports-loving (OK, I really don't love sports, or actually understand sports) — heterosexual man who can't sit through a single show on Lifetime television, let me loudly proclaim: I, Brad Meltzer, love the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.
Now this is the part where I'm supposed to make an intellectual disclaimer like: I don't really love it, but I appreciate it for what it is.
But let me be clear here. I love it. I love Twilight. I love Bella, and I love Edward.
I'm not alone. Since it debuted in 2005, the Twilight series has sold over 53 million copies, making it the hottest thing in bookshops since that nerdy kid with the lightning-bolt scar.
But back to what's really important: Me.
I love this story of the gawky, awkward girl who falls in love with the brooding vampire. And I love that she can't get sexual with said vampire because when her blood gets pumping, it'll send him into a frenzy and he'll kill her. (How's that for a prophylactic?)
I love hearing the dark secret histories of how the other vampires were turned into vampires. And I love when Edward gets all huffy with Jacob the werewolf — oh my God, I'm on the verge of writing fan-fic here — but again, in case you missed it, I love this story.
But for the most part, I've told almost no one.
Y'know why?
Because as a man, this book is not supposed to be for me.
I realized this when I went to see the Twilight movie. Yes, I was there. Opening weekend. We got a babysitter for it. And I sat there in the dark with my wife and a roomful of suburban mothers and a smattering of teenage daughters. I counted. There were four other men (all teenagers) besides me. Me. Four dragged-along boyfriends. And the rest women.
But you know who I blame for this?
I blame my fellow men. That's right. I blame all the men out there who point fingers and call things "girlie" and run like spineless cowards whenever something gets embraced by the opposite sex.
It happens all the time. Remember when men were named Terry and Robin and Leslie? And then a few cool girls were named Teri and Robin and Leslie. And what happened? The men ran. Those names were ceded to the women.
To be honest, I can handle that for Leslie. Leslie is just not a cool name (no offense to Leslie Sydelman, who came to my bar mitzvah). But I will not let this stand for Twilight. We'd never dismiss Romeo and Juliet as "just for women." (Yes, I know — I'm not saying it's Shakespeare, and I still think Harry Potter is better — but don't mess up my analogy.) I won't cede Twilight.
And so I challenge — not the men out there; the men are clearly wusses — I challenge the women. Give Twilight to your teenage sons. Give it to your nephews and husbands and other guy types. Tell them it's cool. Tell them they'll like it. Tell them that it'll help them understand women and therefore help them get dates (c'mon, why else do you think I spent so much time with Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret)
And I issue this challenge — not for sexual equality, not to break down gender barriers. I issue it for the most vital reason of all: The sequel is coming, and I'm tired of being the only guy in the movie theater.

I immediately thought of him when I saw the link on FB, and I hadn't even read the article yet.
I have told him over and over that he would like them if he would just read them. Of course, I told him the same thing about the DIS and the podcast. Two years and a cruise later, he decides I was right. So, I'll sit back and see if this is the same way. It just might take some time. :goodvibes

Just wanted to stop by and say HI to the fellow Twi-fans.
Sadly we will not be on PCC 2.0. I just cannot swing it.
However.. with Pete's announcement about PCC 1.5 (that's what I'm calling it) Universal/Orlando.. we will be on that trip (July 2010)
I will just lurk and live vicariously on this meet. :surfweb:

Hey everybody,
I have a little gift to give to the first person who reads this and wants it! I purchased the Blueray twilight at target (when I found out that target version had special features, and my sons PS3 plays bluerays )
It came with a code for the itunes download for the movie. Since I already purchased a version for my iPod (why I won the sweetheart candies for watching the movie the most :lmao:) I thought one of you might like it!
Let me know if any of you would like it and I can email the code to you!

FYI- if anyone is at all considering the twilight convention cruise- they are capping the convention at 800 attendees and are almost sold out. As of yesterday they were at 650 and are expecting it to be sold out in the next couple of days. Just in case anyone wants to be as impulsive as I am :)

I am definitely gonna have to read them again before the next meet!
OK- what the freak- Kristen chopped ALL her hair off to play Joan Jett! I must have a problem because I am really upset about this! They start filming Eclipse in August for God's sake. I mean, Bella cannot wear a wig! Ok- Jasper and Rosalie, but not Bella!
Anyone else at all upset about this?? :sad2:

Awesome siggy Sandy! I can't wait for New Moon. I love all the trailers being put together buy fans. Gives great insight to the movie and looks so much better than Twilight.
I did read about The Host. I bought it, but haven't read it yet. I'm reading the last Sookie Stackhouse book now and was in the middle of New Moon again when the library called to say it was in. So I plan on finishing those two then reading The Host. I'm not much into Sci Fi, but I'll give it a try.

Hey Jen- I am counting the days until New Moon- cannot wait-
You will love the Host- I am not a huge sci-fi fan either- but she elicits the same emotions that twilight did once you get into the love story-OK, not to the extent Twilight did, but you get the picture. There were parts that just made me sob. It is a little weird in the beginning, took me about 70 pages to get into- but I was up until 2am the night I finished it.
I will be interested to see what you think!

From thread #1
I ordered the charms from Oriental Trading. They came in a bag of 25. They are glass, so 3 of them were broken in the bag since the stem is so fragile. (There was a warning about that upon ordering.) They were really cheap. Maybe $8 for 25 or something like that.
I found my glass pendants on eBay. I had to placetwo orders because I kept giving mine away to my friends at home.

Jen, I bought the soundtrack- very different from twilight, darker I guess you could say. I initially really only liked about 3 songs, but as I listen to it, it is growing on me.
I can say that Alexandre Desplat is a genius! He did the score and has one song on the soundtrack called "the meadow" it is just beautiful, haunting, sad. Perfect for NM as Bella visits the meadow. He should have written the lullaby!
I am having great fun planning my premiere party, will have to post some pics after- I think I have planned more for this than I did for my wedding LOL

DH scared the living daylights out of me this morning, though. He came home from the bus stop, and commented about the "vampire and werewolf movie" that came out last night. WHAT?!?! He said they were talking about last night's 2 hour premier, and crowd reactions and reviews. WHAT?!?!

Lots of shirtless Jacob. :thumbsup2 (Where were boys like him when I was in high school????) :rolleyes1
The acting was much better in this one - other than a few too many blinks and lip bites I actually liked Kristen Stewart this time. I think they stayed true to the book - a lot is condenced but still gets the point of the story through. Lots of funny lines by Charlie and the wolfpack.
I liked the Volturi - although I was a tiny bit disappointed in Jane - she was a little too American sounding for my taste and would have preferred a little bit more regal sounding voice since she is supposed to be older than how she looks. Not sure if I hadn't read the books if I would have totally understood the Volturi enough to appreciate them - but since we have all read the book it won't be a problem for us. ;)
The contacts and the hair is soooo much better than in Twilight. Although I still hated Jacob's wig - it looked like a wig. But Bella's wig looked good.
There wasn't enough of the Cullen family for me - I know they aren't in the book that much but I would have liked a few more glimpses of them at home - but that is just me.
There wasn't much fan girl screaming in the show I went to which pleased me to no end. :yay:
The last part of the movie is sooooo good!!! It makes you desperate for Eclipse to be in the theater tomorrow. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

11-20-2009, 03:01 PM
I pretty much agree with Tonya on everything.
Jacob looked like a little boy in his wig, but short hair and shirtless - um, wow, the cougar came out (there was even a cougar reference ;) )
Better acting, none of the blue lighting, although a few scenes I felt vertigo, which is very unusual for me.
I liked Jane, I thought Dakota Fanning did well.
The ending - holy crow, 203 days and counting :rotfl:
Dodie
11-20-2009, 04:11 PM
I just posted the following as my status on Facebook, after getting home from the movie...
Dodie is thankful for a better director, better special effects, better hair and make-up, a better screenplay (much closer to the book), and a bigger budget. New Moon is really, really good!
There were no screaming fangirls in my 1:00 matinee. The only time anyone made a peep was the first time Jacob removed his shirt after Bella wrecked the bike - and that was more like a heated gasp than a scream. ;)
I have NEVER been Team Jacob, but Taylor does such a good job with the character that you really do fall for him a little and feel sorry for him and his struggle.
The end is great. There was another gasp in the theater after the last line as well, probably especially from the folks who haven't read the books. Great cliff hanger!
I can't wait for Eclipse - with Jacob and Edward there throughout the entire movie!

Hope you all have enjoyed the movie.
I haven't read the books. Can I just watch the movies, or do I need to read the books?
I would suggest reading the books first and then see the movies. I think we all fell in love with the characters in the books and that is the reason why we love the movies. Whenever I watch the first movie, I always view it as a supplement for the books and don't think it really stands on its own. If I had seen the movie first I would have liked it but not loved it (and quite frankly, the first movie is only good, not great.)
Whenever people ask me about reading the books, I always suggest that they read the books in this order:
Twilight
Midnight Sun (a partial draft of this was posted on Stephenie Meyer's website and is Twilight from Edward's perspective - this is what made me love the series.)
Twilight - again
New Moon
Eclipse
Breaking Dawn

Once again, I agree with Tonya, with one minor change. New Moon was very difficult for me to get through, and, according to Stephenie Meyer, it is the same for most people. After you finish New Moon, go back and read it again. Maybe not until your finished reading the series, or immediately once you know how it ends, but it is much easier to handle the 2nd time around.
Of course, now that I've "met" the wolves, I can definitely see the appeal :rolleyes1

I was honestly disappointed with the first movie. I'm afraid if you start there, that may be where you stop.

I think I did re-read New Moon before I read Eclipse now that you mention it. But I am the kind of person who doesn't have a problem with skimming the end of books to make sure everything turns out happily so it wasn't as crucial for me to enjoy the middle of New Moon. :rolleyes1 So, after the scene between Edward and Bella that made me sob and cry out "NO!!!!", I skimmed the end of the book to make sure the ending was more pleasant. (I'm trying not to give too much away for Lyn.) ;)
So, if you aren't a skip to the end of the book kinda person, then yes, you should re-read New Moon before reading Eclipse. :thumbsup2

Without providing a spoiler, it's not a "wow" because you don't know it's coming (if you've read the books). It's just NOT how you expect the movie to end.

I do this, too! I read the last few pages when I am a third the way through the book. I am just in a hurry to know that everything will be okay. Then I go back and savor as I read.
Often, when I do this it doesn't really help. The end often does not make sense out of context with the rest of the book.
I will (eventually) read the Twilight series. Promise!

I was so annoyed at reading New Moon the first time DH thought I saw going to ruin my friend's book. I kept slamming it shut. I don't skip ahead though. I re-read the whole series again before I could really appreciate New Moon.

PM sent! Go by yourself if you have to. I'm trying to figure out how I can fit in a second viewing this weekend.
After seeing the movie, I have re-read Eclipse this week. It's my favorite in the "official" series (excluding Midnight Sun which is my true favorite). I think it's probably the second time I've read it straight through from start to finish. I've picked it up and skipped around a bit in the past after the first reading. I really enjoyed it. I flew through the books the first time. There was so much I missed.

I'm looking for a reason to leave the office to pick it up. There is one by my office and one on the way home, so if I can't find it here hopefully there will be one at the one by home.
At 3:30 this morning the line to get into the Best Buy by my house was over a quarter mile long. People standing single file. The temperature was around 34°. We didn't wait in that line. We waited in the GameStop line. Ended up being the first ones as the two people in front of us bailed out.

Starry-eyed, vampire-loving romantics aren't the only ones jealous of Bella and Edward right now.
Summit Entertainment is primed to split the final Twilight Saga installment, Breaking Dawn, into two films: Author Stephenie Meyer has signed off; Bill Condon's onboard to direct two; and Robert Pattinson is ready to roll, as are Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
So what's the holdup on declaring Breaking Dawn a twofer?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, it's some of the so-called secondary and lesser-paid stars of the series, particularly Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, who have not agreed to Summit's terms and are demanding more money for their pale-faced efforts.
A source told the trade that the offers the actors received for the proposed fifth film were "offensive" in comparison with how much dough the franchise has earned. Another insider says, meanwhile, that Summit might be willing to cut ties with at least one of them to "make a point."
Now, fans have already been forced to accept a midsaga cast change: Bryce Dallas Howard replaces Rachelle Lefevre as the murderous Victoria in the upcoming Eclipse.
But there might be a mutiny if the Cullen clan is replaced with newcomers!
I have just found this thread. Let me start by saying . I have watched the movies many times. And I have read each of the books too many times to count. I'd say more than 12 times, less than 25. (I read kinda fast.)
Ok. I saw the above article on imdb. I have no idea if the stuff in it's true. But I am telling you right now that if either Kellan Lutz or Ashley Greene fail to appear in Breaking Dawn due to Summit's money grubbing I will not be watching either film. I won't change my mind on this.
I had no big problem when they replaced Rachelle Lefevre due to her making scheduling conflicts. But considering the money Summit is making, the actors playing central character which all of the Cullens are, should be paid fairly.
That's my opinion anyway.

I am very upset about this as well, the problem is most people will still see it, myself included- and they know this. As pissed as I will be I could not- NOT see it. They just dont care about the fans I think, which really sucks. Lets just hope they make the right choice and give them what they deserve, they have certainly made their money. Wish I could say I would not see it to prove a point but I am being honest, I respect anyone who can.

Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz, two of the Twilight co-stars that were in a heated battle with Summit Entertainment over the deal points for the fourth and fifth installment of Breaking Dawn, have signed their deals, sources say. It’s not clear which party buckled and both sides are sure to have their spin, but we can confirm that we’ll see Green back as Alice Cullen for the last two Twilight films. And hunky Lutz will also return as Emmett Cullen for the conclusion of the epic franchise. Bill Condon is directing and production is set to begin in the fall. Summit Entertainment would not confirm the deals.

AMC Movie Theater Special for release of Eclipse (http://www.amcentertainment.com/Movies/The_Twilight_Experience/?tab=1)
Relive the epic of Bella, Edward, Jacob and all your favorite TWILIGHT characters at THE TWILIGHT EXPERIENCE at AMC Theatres. For only $30, see both TWILIGHT and THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON before the 12:01am showing of THE TWILIGHT : SAGA: ECLIPSE. Guests will also receive a special limited edition-event lanyard (while supplies last) and an AMC gift card worth $10 on the night of the event, with experience ticket purchase. The experience begins at 6:30pm on Tuesday, June 29.
It lists the duration as 7:50. That would mean getting out of the theater at 2:30am. :faint:

We don't have a AMC theater here. Closest is in Indianapolis.
MommyC and I will be seeing it over the weekend - when she has Hubby home for Childcare and I am off from work.

I would do it, but I would need to find someone to go with, as DP would want to be in bed before New Moon started.

Oh I would go with you. I usually just go to the movies by myself since no one ever wants to see what I want to. This has also led to two solo trips to Disney as well.

I can do Disney solo.
Going to watch the Twilight Saga alone would just look like I was a creeper. Or trying to do something unsavory.

I'll have to watch clips on the internets. Staying up that late on a weeknight is not good for work the next day.
Oh wait. A 10pm special edition...well maybe...

You have Annette and I on the same line for some reason - so you're not counting me. :flower3: There are 25 of us.
Paul - Phillip says if you are willing to valiantly defend Flattie Phillip on the Hershey trip, he will gladly assist you with your mission to defeat all things Twilight. :sad2:
