Has anyone noticed if the rooms have an internet connection? Thanks for any information.

My brother had no trouble using his laptop (dialup via the phone line) while we were at VB and BWV. Believe the phones have a dataport. As far as I know, though, none of the rooms have a high speed connection.

I have used the data ports on the living room phones at both OKW and HH. I had no problem with the connections at all.

Rooms at all WDW resorts and DVC resorts have a dataport on the room phone.

You will need a dialup number for your ISP- there are many available in the Orlando area. There will be a charge for a local call for each connection.

Make sure the number you use is a local number- some are also long distance. You can verify this with the resort operator. There are even some numbers with a different area code that are considered local calls for the onsite resorts. There is a listing in the phone book.

Enjoy!

Does this only apply to the WDW DVC Resorts? I dialed out from our VB room at least a dozen times to local POP for our ISP and though I was expecting it, we didn't have any phone usage charges. I don't think we picked up the phone while at BWV.

We purchased a data cord to go between our laptop and our cell phone so we don't need a local number at all. We can just call long distance to my regular ISP.

Since our phone comes with 3000 long distance minutes a month (after 9:00 pm and weekends), I don't even come close to using up the time, even spending an hour of so on-line 2 or 3 times a week. (We try however not to get into the 300 anytime minutes, using our daytime minutes more for regular calls.)

Our last trip was 7-weeks long, only 1-week of it at OKW, so this arrangement works best for us no matter where we are.

ncligs,
I should have also mentioned however that the connection is slower than normal, 14.4K instead of 56k.

That's not a real bad problem for us because we don't 'surf' while on the road, but go back to the same web sites all the time, our banking, our credit card payments, etc., and of course the DIS.

Once the 'graphics' for a particluar site wind up on your hard drive, you don't have to download them, so then the response is pretty good.

For example, DIS posts are mostly text, so once the screen formats have download once, it goes a lot faster after that. After awhile, even the graphics in regular poster's signatures, or avatars will all wind up on your hard drive too. (Or if you want, on the DIS you can turn off graphics in your user's panel and get straight text which will go very fast)

Do a disk clean-up of course, and remove all those 'temporary' internet files, and all the graphics will disappear.
