For birthday party/ tea/ whatever?
What do you get for your money in each place?

Hi,

I'm not sure I'll be much help, as I've only been to the Lucky Nugget for lunch, not the tea party or birthday tea party, and out of high season the Lucky Nugget isn't open for evening meals.

We really enjoyed our Lucky Nugget lunch in 2007, we had a lot of characters (around 8 if I remember correctly) and it was very quiet in the restaurant, so they came around and around and around again to each table :goodvibes. I don't remember any birthday cakes coming out the day we were there, so I don't know if they do a special birthday song to accompany the cake.

I've been to Cafe Mickey 3 or 4 times now, for evening dinner. Kids love Cafe Mickey, its bright, its noisy, its usually got lots of characters, and its a very popular choice for birthday cakes. My DD chose to have her birthday cake after dinner here 2 weeks ago, she absolutely loved it, and we were very lucky that evening as there were around a dozen characters out and about in the 2 hours we were there. Mickey brought her cake to her, they played the birthday song for her, and there was much dancing and clapping going on :cool1::cool1:. The cake costs 24 euros if you pay on the day, but if you have booked with Disney, you can add it to your reservation in advance, and then it only costs £17.

I have been to the character tea party in 2007 when it was at the Plaza Gardens - this reminded me a lot of the birthday celebrations for the kids at Cafe Mickey - the birthday girls and boys got their cakes and pressies brought to them to the birthday song, with the characters joining them at their table for a dance-a-long :goodvibes.

Then though, it was the same tea party whether you were celebrating a birthday or not, you just paid an increased price if you wanted the cake/pressie at the tea party.

Cafe Mickey is a table service restaurant with menu choice, Lucky Nugget is an all you can eat buffet, if you're looking at lunch/dinner option both are with characters and I would imagine of relatively similar monetary value, CM is probably slightly dearer.
LN also houses the Tea Party, which is a cheaper option for a character meal and consists mainly of dessert/tea items with 1 or 2 savouries.

Have done both several times, have to say our last visit to LN wasn't the best, but previously it's been one of our favourites. Have also done the Tea Party a few years ago, when it was held at Plaza Gardens and enjoyed it.

You're best bet would be to look through the reviews in the restaurant threads, to find out which is most suitable for you as we all tend to have our own favourites for different reasons. :)

Just to add, was disappointed that there wasn't a song played at LN when my son's cake was brought out, although the cast members were clapping and singing it wasn't the same as having the birthday song played at Cafe Mickey.

buffet food always going to be hit or miss (hot or cold)
so i'd go with Cafe Mickey to avoid possible disappointment

I'd definitely say go for CM, our meal at LN was pretty disappointing, only met 2 characters and the food wasn't very good at all.

CM is a lot better food wise, and you are pretty much guaranteed to meet the most poular characters. We sam Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Jessie and some others. At LN we only met Pluto and Robin Hood. :sad2:

We did LN for the first time in January and will not be going back, the buffet was really slow as being refreshed and we also only saw 2 characters. We did have a late lunch but if this is the case we should have been told when booking. We have done CM twice now and although Josh was ill (read projectile vomitting) we saw plenty of characters including the Mouse couple, his dog and 2 chipmunk friends of theirs and more. The meal was pretty good, not a cheap meal but well worth it for the characters.

Only two charactors is that normal .

We did LN in April and met six characters - same amount we saw at CM. Food wise we thought LN was okay, character wise it was great - it was quite empty when we were there and all the characters spent plenty of time with the kids, especially pluto who spent about 5 minutes playing a game of hide and seek and high fives with my four year old who totally loved it, we had less character time at CM which was really busy on a 9:30 booking.

My kids love the LN, and it's usually good for characters. Never had a bad experience with the food.

I wouldn't recommend the birthday cake though (very nice, but very rich!).

Our 'party' was a big disappointment....no music played, just some half hearted singing by some CMs who hadn't remembered my daughter's name.

Funniest thing was they whipped the cake straight away, and brought it back on plates divided amoungst the few of us. Huge slices of rich cake served up after an all you can eat buffet :scared: Luckily we had an empty sandwich container to pack it up in.
