In previous years, people just kind of sorted it out amongst themselves. I will probably share with Nat (again ) even though she keeps me awake all night with her snoring :lmao:

Wow, you were quick off the mark ;)

I am just investigating restaurants. Mandy, you know Birmingham pretty well - any suggestions? I have looked at Old Orleans, in Broad Street, but not sure how far away from the Mailbox that is. We went to Strada and Bar Estilo last time didn't we? Did we want to try somewhere different this time?

If anyone else has any eatery suggestions, please feel free to add. Basically, we want somewhere for dinner on Friday night, lunch on Saturday and dinner on Saturday night.

Is there a Hard Rock Cafe in Brum???

mandymouse
05-26-2009, 09:55 AM
Joh, the Mailbox is 5 minutes away from Broad Street. I am pretty easy when it comes to food, I can usually find something anywhere

In The Mailbox, there's a Nando's, The Oriental (Thai), Strada, Bar Estilo, Pennyblacks (I've never eaten there, but it's always popular) and more here

http://www.mailboxlife.com/restaurants-directory.asp

As for Saturday lunch, it may be best to eat at the Bull Ring, and Nat may insist that we go back to Pizza Express :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: or there's a Nando's, Pizza Hut and more here

http://www.bullring.co.uk/website/ShopSearchResults.aspx?Category=&RetailUnitId=&RetailUnitName=&CurrentSectionId=163061e8-85f2-471a-b556-c44063805efe

Got to run, I've got to pick kids up, back in a bit :)

But I am always happy anywhere - including Pizza Express... :rolleyes1

Well, I could definitely afford it if I can find somebody to share. Including the train down it would cost me less than 80 for the weekend. I am pretty sure that I have the Saturday and Sunday off, but need to check what shift I am on on the Friday. I am heading into work shortly so I should know for sure if I am coming when I get back tonight.

I hope you can get the time off Corinna, it would be lovely to meet you :)

Hi,

Could I join you for just dinner on the Saturday night? I live in Birmingham (4 miles from City Centre) so wouldn't be staying in a hotel, and our finances are very tight as we are getting married at the Boardwalk.

I can higly recommend a place called The Green Room which is in the Arcadian Centre just off the Bullring and opposite the Hippodrome. It is a bar/restaruant, very relaxed and a great atmosphere. There are also other great places in the Arcadian Centre too and they are generally more reasonable than the Mailbox

It would be great to meet you all :goodvibes

With less than two months to go, I thought I'd better give this thread a quick 'bump' to see if anyone else wants to join us.

I am planning to book the table at Old Orleans for the Friday night - does anyone have an idea what time we should go for?

Also, did we decide where we were going to eat Saturday night? I assume everyone is happy with Pizza Express for Saturday lunchtime (so Nat can get her waiter fix ;))

So, is there anyone else out there who wants to join us on the girly weekend? And does anyone have a preference for dinner on Saturday night?

mandymouse
07-13-2009, 06:03 AM
Nice one Joh, I don't have any preference for what time to eat at, but 8pm is usually good

Pizza Express is good for me too :thumbsup2

As for the other evening meal, I am happy to eat anywhere, and I can usually find something nice at whatever restaurant we go to (though I'd prefer not to have a burger :rotfl:). So maybe those who struggle to find something they like could choose a restaurant, and I'll be happy to go along with it :)

I can't believe it :sad2: I just checked availability for the Ramada and all they have left for the weekend is executive rooms at silly prices. I sent Michelle a PM a little while ago to see if we could firm up arrangements, but unfortunately she seems to be away from the forum at the moment. I just checked the Crowne Plaza, which seems to be very close to the Mailbox (less than 200 yards) and they still have twin rooms available for GBP58 per night based on two sharing. So that might be an option that will allow us to still come.

I just checked availability now and the Ramada is now completely booked. Availability at the Crowne Plaza is still good fortunately. I will send Michelle one last email trying to sort this out. DH realized the other day that I was upset about something. I told him that I really had wanted to go to the Girly Weekend, but that with my sisters wedding in Germany the week after and our holiday two weeks after that, I could not afford to go if I can't share the room. He suggested that I make one more attempt to contact my room mate. If I still don't get any joy, he will come to Birmingham with me and share the room and just do his own thing while I am out enjoying myself with you guys.

Joh, thanks for that. I really appreciate it. If I have not heard from Michelle by Sunday evening, I will contact Terri to see if she is still interested in coming. You guys really rock. I can't wait to meet you in person.

hi
i had a similar problem in the sat night being fully booked although there is some availbility on the friday still so it would only be a change one night, i was still thinking of coming but had been put off having no one to share with and having to switch hotels alone one night too, so hadnt quite decided what to do.(terrible descision maker)
does everyone know how there travelling there yet?

aaronandterri

just to add i am actually booked already for the friday, was hoping something would open up nearer the time in the hotel for sat and make up my mind for me over sat.
I have looked at trains with virgin from london and its around 1.5 - 2hrs depending on which time you go with, does anyone know how far the station is to the hotel?

Hi Terri! I still can't decide about the travelling - I'm hoping to meet up with friends either side of the weekend and just can't decide whether to drive or take the train!!! :faint: It's not just you who can't make decisions... :goodvibes

New Street is near the hotel - about a 5 minutes walk if I remember rightly so very convenient... :thumbsup2

Just went through the thread and realised I'd missed these crucial pieces of info...

I have booked a table at the Ha Ha Bar and Grill for 7:45 pm on the Saturday night. No deposit required :thumbsup2

Have now booked the table at Old Orleans as well, for 8 pm on Friday 4th. And, according to the lovely girl, I spoke to they are even going to decorate the table with balloons and stuff for us :thumbsup2

Thanks very much, Joh!!! They sound fab... :goodvibes Thanks for organising that for us...

Now I have a few questions. Firstly, what time do you think we'll be meeting up to kick off festivities on Friday pm? Secondly, any idea of the check-in/check-out times?? Oh and if I get there early, do you think I can drop off my case at the hotel even if it's twirly to check-in???

I have the day off and plan to leave as soon as I've dropped Daniel at school so will probably be at Nat's around midday. Last time we headed straight to Mandy's where we had a little drinky before Paul kindly drove us into Birmingham. Not sure what the arrangements will be this time (I'm happy to drive if needs be) but I would think we will be there about 2ish, as Nat says :)

karen, how are you travelling by car or train?

Oh I just can't decide, Terri! :faint: Yesterday afternoon I had 100% decided to get the 10.03am train from Euston and almost bought the tickets. Then spoke to my friend last night and she tried to persuade me to drive up a day early and spend the night at hers... Also my SIL has got wind of the fact that I'm up their way and has asked me to pop round to hers after check-out on Sunday which would be easier in the car... :headache:

Sorry hun - I'm no help, am I???

I am planning to get to Birmingham around 14:0). I did some reorganization. I need a half day leave the following Friday so I decided that I just take a half day leave on the 4th. That still means that I finish work at 11:15 (I am on the early that day) and plenty of time to get myself to Birmingham.

I got my ticket for the train down to Birmingham. I even managed to get a ticket that leaves from the town where I work so I don't have to go back to Manchester first. I have to change trains at Crewe, but it only cost 7 Pounds for the single. I still have to get the ticket for the way back. A what time on the Sunday do people usually leave?

I remember that from Ted, I haven't bought myself anything in there for years (not sure I'd be able to now:rolleyes:) I remember when it was just the one shop off Endell St, Covent garden. You think they would have standardised by now. I think their 0 was a 6.

I have just realised that I haven't actually booked anywhere for lunch on the Saturday. I know we had some discussions around going back to Pizza Express, would everyone be happy with that or has anyone got suggestions on where else we might have lunch?

Only just over 2 weeks to go - although there are only 9 of us for lunch on the Saturday (assuming that Aimee is still planning to join us) so we shouldn't have too much trouble getting in somewhere anyway :confused3

For those of you following WW or other diets, for that matter, Pizza Express do a baked dish that it just delish, I believe it's 7 or 8 WW points. Havent been to PE for a while but I think it's called Melanzane Parmigiana, it's layers of veg in tomato and white sauce with a lovely parmesan cheese topping - it saves cals/points by having no pasta. Lovely lunch dish:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
