I know Disney's rule about not allowing CMs to have any visible tattoos; however, does that mean all people with tattoos cannot do the CP? :confused3 I have a half sleeve that is just about covered with a short sleeve shirt, but is completely covered with a long sleeve shirt.
Anyone have any experience with this?

While I have no personal experience with tattoos, I can tell you that in my area, "just about covered" would never fly. Our costumes had no long-sleeved option, so the only thing you could do is wear a turtleneck or a coat. In 90+ degrees and a hundred bazillion percent humidity, no fun. The best thing to do is answer the "visible tattoos" question with a "yes" and ask if there's a workaround.

I have three, one on my ankle, one on my hip, and one on my shoulder- I told them about all three, she asked where they were, and if a swimsuit would cover them. I said no, and she asked then if a short sleeved shirt would, or if I wore socks...I said yes.
From what I understand, you can cover it with makeup, as well. The problem you would have if it's a thin cotton shirt, short sleeved or none, if it's white, your sleeve will show through unless you put makeup on it- your best bet, as they suggested, would be to be honest and up front about it, and show you're willing to do whatever to cover them.

I have two tattoo's, and told them about both of them in my interview. One is covered unless I am wearing a bikini or something and the other is a bit more visable, I just can't be wearing a v neck tee. I told them this and got hired for attractions. From what I understand that as long as you tell them they have that on file and place you somewhere where the costume can cover your tattoo's. Just be honest and there shouldn't be a problem.

I have a lower half sleeve, and both my calfs tattooed. I've done the CP before, and this fall will be my 2nd CP. They will just put you somewhere that has a long sleeve costume. Just let them know in the phone interview.

I have my calfs tattooed as well. This time I will be in an office role so I just had to order some calf high boots online so I can wear a skirt..
When I was a FT CM I worked with alot of people that had ink and wore either the long pants or under armour.I don't recomend covering it up with makeup it will more than likely melt off.

Thanks for all the replies! I was getting a little worried about it, hopefully something will get worked out.
Someone should start a college tattoo photo thread.

Brent, I looked at the first picture and I thought it was your leg, and I was like that is the weirdest foot I have ever seen. Then my eyes adjusted and I came to my senses. (I finished my documentary! viva la sleep)
and as for the pain, it wasn't that bad. I got my ribs done first and am considering getting the outline for a much larger section on my ribs this summer. I figure if i get the hard parts done first, It will make the other body parts pieces of cake.

All of your tattoos are beautiful! I've got a question..
I'm considering getting my thigh piece worked on before the CP. I took a Custodial position, so It's possible to wear pants each day. How survivable is this? Anyone done it? I had a buddy that said she usually preferred pants out there.

Idk about pants but I think majority of the shorts will come pretty close to your knees so that may still be a possibility depending on how low your tattoo goes.

It will really depend on the costume. Some of the areas are very picky about what you can and cannot wear under. The big issue with UnderArmor is that on many shirts the logo is visible on the neck and you cannot have visible logos.

In my Disney Look Book it says that it cannot be covered up with make-up (not sure, maybe because you will sweat it off?)

It's definitely survivable. Of course, I used to be a performer so to me pants are a luxury of coolness! LOL. Plus, custodials isn't necessarily out in the sun all day. All my custodial friends sort of bounced back and forth between indoors and outdoors.

Hey I had custodial as one of my locations on my first program. We ( like everyone in my area) wore pants everyday. I never had a problem with them, except for that I we pull the men pants cause I hated the women pants. I am sorry but I was not going to rock any pleats. Just an FYI unless your at DAK your pants are going to be white. So when it rains if you get wet your going to be able to see through the pants. You may want to invest in some under armour heat shorts..

I applied for the CP last season (for fall 09). I have a small (1 cm) tattoo on my hand and I told them that I have to cover with with makeup every day for work so I was experienced in it and the interviewer told me that certain roles don't allow that. She said I was only eligible for Character Performer, Hospitality, FSFB, and Merchandise. To me, those roles have as much guest interaction as others so that doesn't really make any sense to me. Also, one of my choices was Costuming, which is entirely backstage, but they said that wasn't a possibility with my tattoo. It seems the guidelines are a little backwards or murky when it comes to covering tattoos with makeup. Like everyone else said, be up front about it and see where it goes.

Maybe it's about the costuming in a particular role? As a performer you are covered head to toe (a tattoo will affect your abilit yto do roles in which your face shows, including parade roles that are not necessarily "face"). The others all sound like indoor roles so my guess is that if you cover with make up you have to perofrm a role that guarantees you will be indoors so ou don't sweat it off or it gets rained off. That is just a guess from looking at the info provided.
Even though costuming is backstage, they must still adhere to the same rules as everybody else. The only time I have seen things that maybe were not against the rules were women wearing hijabs (head coverings). I have never seen one onstage but have seen several in costuming. I don't know if this is by coincidence or design, but other than that costumers have to follow Disney Look just like everybody else (as do all backstage roles). They are still considered to have "guest contact" but in this case the Cast Members are the guests.

I didn't even think about those being indoors. That makes sense. Thanks.
