Inventions is another to consider - the cake looks nicer, but there were less characters when Small World had her cake there - she only had one character but there are normally more than this around so I think she was a little unlucky.

Small World has eaten birthday cakes in both of these so hopefully she'll pop in at some point and can help list the pro's and con's of both of these places :goodvibes

And here I am :goodvibes
Yes we had DDs cake in Cafe Mickey in November and my surprise one in Inventions in February (thanks again Rob- UK Stitch - I still need to get you back for that one:rotfl:)
Both were very nice but the Inventions one was very yummy.
The cafe Mickey one was very similar to the pic Elaine - dlp daft has recently posted - a sponge cake with yellow icing. Chip n Dale and Goofy came to dance with her
The inventions one was more like a chocolate mousse cake with strawberries and starfruit on it - theres a pic in my February TR - As Rob said there was only one character about at the time - Launchpad
I preffered the cake in Inventions but the advantage of having it in Cafe Mickey is you can have it as dessert whereas in Inventions there are already loads of yummy desserts to choose from.

You can see my DD's birthday cake from Cafe Mickey 2 weeks ago here -
I think it can easily feed 12, its a very rich sponge cake :).

I know I'm not Small World but I also know she's heading off on holiday so might not reply here for a while.
My personal opinion from what I've seen would be Cafe Mickey unless they're funny about too much contact with the characters. It seems that you get more attention in Cafe Mickey (though this may be a little too much for some as all the characters come and pay you attention). I'd also guess that they'd be happy enough with the Cafe Mickey cake.
