Morning folks!

I did not have internet access at home part of the weekend, so I am somewhat behind here. I am just gonna jump back in rather than trying to catch up.

78 weeks until PCC 2.0!

Grats to the losers this past week and WTG on all the weekend activity!!

I was down another .4 this week at WI. I'll take it. I am gonna try to for a whole pound this week! ;)

I would love to join in  On the last dis unplugged cruise I was on weight watchers and I only gained 1 1/2 lbs when I weighed myself at home and by the time I weighed in at weight watchers I actually lost it :thumbsup2 I actually ate and drink anything I wanted to on the ship but I didn't stuff myself and we walked up and down the stairs a lot!!

I still want to lost about another 15lbs and lately they are going off real slowwww :sad2:. I guess I got to get moving some more!!

Have any of you participated in Mars Candy's Free Chocolate Fridays?
I did.
Yesterday I ate my free Three Musketeers bar. It was good, but was it really worth 260 calories? No! It was not THAT good.

I have never been on a "diet". This is the first time I have really paid attention to the calories in the food I eat vs. the exercise it takes to burn calories. Some calories are just not worth it.

If I am going to go overboard with calories, it better be something that is REALLY yummy.

Good luck to the rest of you balancing calories in and calories burned. :cheer2:

Went for a run last night. Went 2.5 miles. I think that we might just be able to make the 5k in 2 weeks. I have also lost 3 pounds since starting this also.

Good luck, Jaime. As Don said, it's a process. I've lost between 45 and 50 lbs since last fall, and there have been many many "plateaus" and setbacks along the way. Remember it's a long term commitment and you'll do great!! :thumbsup2

WOW Jason, nice job! I'm in the 35-40lb range and have hit many walls. Keep pushing!! Exercise was the key for me. I know Aaron has had some nice results also. 5lbs here 5lbs there and you are on a roll.

I'm sitting steady at 210 pounds. I've increased my weight training lately due a knee issue that's hindering my running. Good diet and hard lifting is keeping me in decent shape. Sounds like everyone is trying hard to stay in shape. That's awesome, keep it up. :thumbsup2

Great point! You do hit walls along the wall, and they can seem disappointing at times, but if you just keep working at it you will achieve what you've set out to do.

Haven't been able to check in for a couple days but sounds like everyone's having a pretty good week. :grouphug:

The scale's telling me I'm down 1.5# this week so far (from Sunday morning's weigh in). Hooooping that'll still be true next weigh in. Actually, I'm kinda hoping it'll be lower than that, but I'll take it. ;)

It's so encouraging to see the numbers dropping, I can't even tell you. I feel much better about my couple of weeks of not getting anywhere now. Apparently I was getting somewhere after all. :goodvibes

Last week's weigh-in was lower than weight has been in a long time. During the week, the scale bounced up a bit. But this morning was one pound less than last week, so a minor victory for me.

Best, I have really been better at not snacking mindlessly. That is very important in controlling calories in.

Still doing well at keeping up with everyday fitness activities.

But, all bets are off when library patrons bring us freshly baked cookies! Just can't resist...

Just start out slow, Walk 1 block the first day, then add a driveway each day or walk for 20 minutes then add to it each day. I found it very helpful to find a friend to walk with, then you have someone to keep you moving. If you don't have someone to walk with you, pop in a podcast and let Pete & Crew keep you entertained while you walk.

We started out walking for 20 minutes 3 weeks ago and now we walk for an hour, every morning. We meet at work at 6 am and start out from there. It is so much cooler in the morning than later in the day, which helps keep us going.

I finished day 15 of my 30 day challenge in EA Active yesterday, and the scale's still being nice to me this week. I feel like I'm making progress and I think I'm officially through that first plateau. :yay: You think I'd know by now that my body doesn't gain weight quickly and doesn't lose weight quickly... I guess it's slow and steady for me.

BUT I will be handing out free drink of the days (or libation of your choice) on PCC 2.0 to anyone who helps kick me in the rear to keep going through the second plateau, when it gets here. I'm sure it will, and it's usually the second plateau where I give up. Hopefully recognizing (and admitting) that will keep me on the straight and narrow.

I have also learned that Active's "Jump Lunges" are gonna have to wait until I'm smaller or something. Otherwise it's going to be Active's "What Caroline Was Doing When She Broke Her Knee".

Yay Jaime and Caroline!

Caroline, nothing wrong with slow and steady. I think we're all in that boat!! But no knee breaking! :scared1: I have always found that it's easy to start any diet, but after about 2-3 weeks, that's when it gets hard to STICK with it! Well, I just got a nice brisk walk to Subway in, since I didn't bring lunch. (I got the 6 inch Roast Beef on wheat, no cheese, all the veggies plus spinach, and light on the honey mustard - 7 points.) Added in the bag of apple slices (0 points!) and made it a combo. I got a little movement in for today.

But I had to walk through the gauntlet of schoolchildren on their last day of school in order to get to Subway. I deserve a medal for that. ;)

I know I shouldn't do this, but I weigh myself every morning. I'm up significantly from yesterday, and tomorrow's my weigh in day. I'm thinking I might be headed down from last week's weight, but at this point, it's unpredictable. We'll just wait and see...

Nice job on the extra steps! - I parked on the wrong side of the Target lot and walked across - and there were no cart returns anywhere near me, so I had to walk halfway back to retunr the cart!

I totally agree about the inspiration here. I'm pretty shy in real life and it's hard for me to talk about weight things with people I know face to face (especially since the vast majority of those people aren't and have never been trying to lose weight...). Having like minded people with a similar time frame for their goal to talk to is really nice. :grouphug: And I love the post it note idea!

I like weighing every day for that reason, too. I think it helps me to know what my body's various cycles are for gains and losses, and it keeps me honest through the week, I think. I also like it because if I'm having a slow loss week, I'd like to know about it in advance, kinda. I mean, if I'm doing everything right and I'm sure I'm gonna get on the scale Sunday morning and see a big loss, and then I only get, like, 0.2 lbs, I find that I get more hung up on the number than if I'm prepared to only see a little loss. As long as I don't get hung up on the number day to day, I'm okay with it.

Awesome work, you two!! Congrats!! :cheer2::cheer2::woohoo::cheer2::cheer2:

Tomorrow morning's official weigh in for me. Scale was down a little further this morning and it was one of those times when weighing every day really helped. I'm so motivated to see that 'official' number be the same (or lower!) that I went out of my way to pick a healthier dinner and will be on my best behavior tonight at work. Fingers crossed!

I went out tonight knowing fully well that I would be splurging. But I did take half my meal home with me, and the majority of the big honkin' dessert I ordered. That's right, I ordered dessert. That's usually my downfall. But I did not eat as much of it as I thought I would! And I had a couple of drinks. Good thing I have those flex points!

I love being able to eat what I want, but to be smarter about how I go about doing it. :goodvibes

That's awesome! Way to go! :woohoo:

Weigh in for me today - down 1.6 this week for a total of 5.5 since May 15. I'd love for that number to be higher, but my favorite jeans came dangerously close to falling off at work last night (:scared1:) so I must be on the right track. :lmao:

This week's goal is to keep to one soda per night at work (I can eke enough caffeine out of my tea and it's waaaay less sugar, but I crept up to 2 a couple times last week) and to keep the 're's and the 'back to's out of my thoughts. I find that when I phrase things as 're-losing these 5 pounds' or 'get back to where I was in November' (I had a bad Dec and Jan), I focus on the fact I messed up last time and not that I'm doing well this time. So no more re's and back to's for me!

I was up 0.6 at WI yesterday. Grrrr. I am just bouncing around in the same couple of pounds.

Good news is that I broke the Wii Fit back out today. I did 20 min there and played some tennis. I really enjoy it, and I was starting to see real results earlier in the year before I hurt my foot, so I hope I can get back into it.

I did my Wii Fat (thanks to the DIS Unplugged for that name!) earlier, too. I did a few yoga poses, followed by boxing and hula hoop, followed by my 30 minute free step.....while watching the Food Network.

just got back from a morning jog, finally was smart enough to figure out it will be cooler to go out before that big bright ball makes it way up into the middle of the sky. Of course I'll be an idiot later and go out for another jog tonight when the temp is still mid-90s :headache:

Managed to get a new personal best for the mile, 11 minutes 33 seconds Not a pace I could maintain for a marathon....yet! but I am still going to consider it an accomplishment.

Think its time to for breakfast, then grabbing a book and heading for the pool for some peace and quiet...unless my mom decides to feign the oh startling idea this morning  lets 'swing' by with my 2 yr old nephew and see if I might want to take him in the pool. Its sunny...going to be a gorgeous and HOT day so she knows I'll be in the pool :rotfl: who does she think she is fooling. Not that I mind.

I am so frustrated and out of control!

I am visiting my mother and brother. Their schedule is really weird. I am stress eating. I am eating too much food at weird times. I went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch with a friend. Only saving grace is that at only half the pasta entree and am eating the cheesecake very slowly over two days.

I have managed to take 30 - 45 minutes walks morning and evening. I can't wait to get back home and get back to my regular routine!

Decided to stop by and say Hi! Figured since we are booked for the podcast cruise and I am on WW I would join the group! I would like to be at my goal weight for the cruise, which is 35 pounds lighter. Did good before our DL vacation at the start of this month (lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks) but ate like crazy and felt terrible while in Cali. Hopefully I learned my lesson and can stay on track. Back down to where I was before DL, so starting over again!

I started out with the WW @ Work program, and let me tell you about the leader I had. He was on the WW program 5 separate times, gaining the weight back and losing it again. After the 5th time, he said he needed to stay tracking for good and to be sure he's kept all the good habits.

We couldn't sustain a quota for more than a couple of rounds of sessions, so I had to branch out on my own to continue doing WW. I lucked out with a great leader, but I still miss my "original" one.

But it doesn't matter that you've done the backslide if you're willing to do the work to bring yourself out of it.

Welcome! :welcome::welcome:

O.K. guys I have not been around for a while.
I have been at the gym.
Today is a day off for me from the gym and I planned it that way.
I can hardly walk, and my abs are sore.
I went up 2 pounds at my last weigh in, and I think that is a combinaion of working out at the gym and my leader says it is also because I worked out right before weighing in. I won't do that again.
So this week I am looking for a large drop.
Wednesday is weigh in day!
I will post then.
Keep up the good work guys.
By the time we meet up with each other we should all be alot thiner. :cheer2:

Ok, was looking at my pics from the cruise and decided I need to get back in the grove of hitting the gym and getting some pounds off (I was 65 down from the all time high but have gained back 30 of them, I blamed it on turning 40 and going through a bad breakup but it was mostly chocolate chip cookie dough) I was able to actually maintain on the PCC 1.0 (I did not use the elevators and always used the stairs to burn some calories) So I talked a friend of mine into joining a new gym that opened up close by and now I have a local to make me feel guilty for not going. I have been lurking on here and decided I might as well have some Dis friends to prod me along as well.

Cookie dough is so evil - I had two of the sweetest little girls at my door a few months ago, selling frozen cookie dough for their cheerleading trip - THEY WERE MONSTERS in disguise  I bought 3 tubs - not realizing they were individual frozen cookies that you can just plop onto a cookie sheet to bake. Needless to say - they also plop into your mouth frozen as well - everytime I walked past the freezer, they were calling out to me - finally gave them to my neighbor - I swear I heard them in my sleep :lmao::lmao:

I wish I could figure out why our brains do this to us :scratchin

I go to a restaurant - I know I'm going to have the plain salad - no cheese please AND THE DRESSING ON THE SIDE. I plan on getting GRILLED chicken or fish, baked potato no sour cream or butter, etc etc ... the the other side of my brain takes over :crazy2:

I listen to another podcast (not Disney! "Motivation to Move") that stresses having your defualt eating plan. This is good eating habits that you usually maintain. In the restaurant, the treat side of the brain takes over. But then you go right back to the default eating plan (diet, if you wish). Always know that when you go off in the wrong direction, you can go right back to the good habits the very next meal.

As for the shopping cart - you need to take better control of those "bad" items that jump in and kick them out!

Good luck! :thumbsup2
And keep moving! :yay:

Apparently I'm keeping up my streak of not being good about checking in on the weekend (well, my weekend, which is Sun-Tue). Anyway, I need to get better about that not just to keep up with you guys (:grouphug:) but because my eating's been all out of control the past few days. :headache: Fortunately I've been keeping up the exercise so I haven't done any damage versus the scale, but being off track 3 days out of the week isn't going to get me where I wanna go. I need more accountability.

On the positive side, one week of actively shooting down negative thoughts has made a real difference. It's kind of weird; I never put much stock in the 'positive thinking' business, but it's only been a week that I've been actively swatting negative thoughts when they scoot by and I'm having a lot fewer of them (yes, I was keeping a tally; how anal is that? :lmao:). Anyway, cruddy eating aside, I'm considering myself on track for my goal this week. :goodvibes

I won't go back and try to catch up with everyone. Just :welcome: to the newcomers! And hoping everyone has a great rest-of-the-week!

So count me in... 30 to go...

Well, at this rate, the Podcast Crew won't have to plan ANY activities!!! We can all just stand around and admire each other!

Good luck!!!

Ouch!! Take it easy so it doesn't get worse!

Wow! That's some loss this week!:banana::banana::banana:
Nice going!

I went produce shopping today, and I hit the motherlode! Here's what I bought:

asparagus
broccoli
zucchini
boston lettuce
baby bella (cremini) mushrooms
persian cucumbers (small, seedless, great in salads!)
campari tomatoes (best tomatoes that aren't home grown, IMHO)
grape tomatoes
green seedless grapes
raspberries
strawberries
pineapple spears

And I posted to Facebook about the item I was most excited to buy from Costco: bison pastrami. 3 oz is 80 calories, 2g fat. That's only 2 points! I used my WW scale to weigh the portion, and it's a really nice portion! Made a sandwich of it with the Arnold's sandwich thins (1 pt) and some Grey Poupon mustard. It was pretty satisfying for dinner. I really intended to make some sauteed veggies, but I didn't. I snacked on grape tomatoes and the green grapes later.

Doing better....
After the gym last night, I really wanted to eat the cup ice cream (330 cal.), instead I ate water ice (45 cal.)

The sound of heavy rain woke me up early. So I went to the pool at 5:15 and swam 10 laps. My partner has been doing this early swim for almost a year, but it is new to me. I am going to try it again. Just not on Thursday mornings after I stay up too late with podcast chat!

And my scale weighed me three pounds less this morning than it did last night. Weird!

The cucumbers are also known (to me at least) as "baby cucumbers". I just wash them and slice them, no peeling. The English cucumbers are like the ginormous version of these Persian guys. "Seedless".

Today's lunch, since I'm still on "vacation time", consisted of another sandwich of the bison pastrami, along with sauteed asparagus and zucchini. I use a couple tsp of garlic infused grapeseed oil (which I bought at a specialty oil and vinegar store). McCormick's makes a roasted garlic and sea salt grinder, so I put some of that in with the veggies. I followed that up with some of the pineapple spears. Yum.

I get that a lot. I think (as tlcoke said) it has to do with eating and stuff throughout the day. I'm pretty sure I always wake up a little dehydrated ... which is why I weigh in in the morning. Not that that stops me from jumping on the scale randomly throughout the day. :lmao: But I only 'count' it in the morning.

The WISH boards are great! In addition to the Wogging thread there is a weekly thread for everyone who is exercising. It is primarily people who run who get together for the WDW marathon and other races. I got to meet some of them at the Princess half.

I went to karate last night for the first time since September. My quads were killing me since I haven't practiced my stances at least since then. I plan on doing either Yoga or Pilates so that I can loosen up tonight. Today is supposed to be a rest day in my training plan, but I consider both of those to be restful activities.

I walked this morning for 3 miles.. It was very hot and sticky outside already at 6:00 a.m. The next couple of mornings (friday & Monday), I won't have my co-worker to walk with, so I have to have extra motivation to go out solo.

Consider yourself motivated - RAH :cheer2:

Well.... The "free chocolate Friday" coupons won today.

But I fought back with 3 miles on the treadmill at the gym tonight, usually I only do 2 - 2.5 miles.

I brought a pair of sneakers to work today so I can take short walks during my lunch half hour. This will also held my newly discovered vitamin D deficiency which I am told could account for some of my slight fatigue and desire for late afternoon naps. (Personally, I think short naps are great!)

Good luck to all this weekend!

Hi guy's!
Well I haven't been on the boards in a few days, so I thought I would check in as we are off for a nice long weekend at the cottage.
I gained a pound at my weigh in on Wednesday.
I think it might be the half a cherry pie I ate last weekend.
I know stay away from the pie...:rotfl2:
However I will get back on track.
I have not had much time for the gym this week either..
So I will try to be good over the weekend.
Hope everyone else has a great week, I will check in again when I get back.
Have a great weekend guy's and keep up the awesome work you are doing, and just think how great you are going to look on PCC#2. :)

I manage to walk this morning, though mother nature was against me. We had storms move through this morning, I left out to go for my walk and it was pouring down rain, but the lightning had stopped. I set out thinking this will be a short walk, but just as I got to the walking track the rain began to stop. Good news is I managed to walk 2.4 miles this morning despite the flooding rain we had this morning (3+ inches in less than 3 hours, with the majority of it falling in the first hour)

I went for a jog this morning before work. I forgot how good it feels to get the blood pumping before work. The only hard part is getting up between 4:30 and 5 in the morning. Sometimes the snooze button is too tempting.
The past couple weeks, we've been jogging at night and then swimming. Nice and refreshing just before bed.
We've started eating better too. I can see a little difference. Can't feel it really though. Chugga chugga choo choo! I think I can, I think I can!

Good for you Todd! Keep up the Good Work.

Set your alarm clock 1/2 hour earlier than you want to get up then you can hit the snooze button a couple of times.

Hi Everyone!!! I haven't posted in a little while, but I'm back "on the wagon" so to speak. I've had 2 of my employees out for illness, and it's been hard to pick up their slack. So I haven't been eating the best at all. I didn't even weigh myself because I didn't want to see the disappointing number that I was sure would show back up. Well, this week I started to get a little better, watching my portions, etc, and even dared to get back on the scale yesterday. Would you believe I actually LOST 2 pounds?!?!:cool1: I couldn't believe it. I was expecting to see a gain, and was pleasantly surprised instead.
So, I've really missed talking to you all, and plan to be back more to help keep myself on track. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Will you please share with my what kind of scale you use.

I currently use a digital scale. When I step on, the zeroes flash, a number appears, then another, sometimes a third number before finally stopping. These numbers can be ten pounds apart. What is the correct number, the first or final? I try very hard to stand very still. A minute of two later I stand on the scale again, and get a different number, half pound or two different. Get off, repeat several times, untill I give up in slight frustration.

I am considering a non-digital scale. One with a speedometer-like dial. I am afraid that looking down five feet, I will not be able to read the little lines between the numbers.

Any suggestions and advice most gratefully accepted!
Many thanks!

I have been :yay: exercising with weights, sweating :scared: out three miles a day on the treadmill. I have been really trying to watch my food intake.

I want to SEE results on a scale. And eventually in my clothes.

worked my butt off today, did my lawn today (including the all the edging which I loath doing) this morning while it was only 94 degrees out, then took one of newphews into the pool for about an hour or so, which mostly consisted of me picking him up and throwing him around (nice upper body work out) and pulling myself up out of the pool on the deep end and jumping in and swimming underwater the length of the pool...for some reason he finds it hillarious when I start at one end and then pop up right next to him on the other end. Later in the afternoon I checked the temp and saw it was 102 :scared: so instead of outdoor activity I went to the gym and did an hour on the eliptical, went full throttle on that sucker and in the end the thing said I burned 1250 calories! And now I just came back in from a 2.7 jog....in 93 degree weather...I waited for the sun to go down so it had cooled off

Yes I am inviting head stroke :rolleyes1 but seriously I am trying to keep hydrated.

On the plus side I look forward to recieving a new piece of motivation thanks to this weeks podcast show. They read my email so I will be recieving a t-shirt. I requested a smaller size ;)

I got a new scale last month at walmart. It is digital but has a replaceable battery. It was the second cheapest of the digital readout scales (health master is the brand I think). It has dual memory that record and then will show you amount loss between weigh ins, so you can do one fully clothed and one after showering. This is the feature I use once a week to log my loss/gain. You can use it regularly in between weigh-ins in a regular mode, too. I am not at home right now, so I can't give you the exact brand and model.

I walked at total of 3.25 miles this morning. I decided to check out part of our new river walk. Unfortunately on the Indiana side of the Ohio River, they haven't gotten the segments between towns & cities connected yet. So, I walked in two parts. I walked the first section from one end to the other, then walked it back to my car, then I drove down to where the next section began and walked it from beginning to end, then turned around and went back to my car. It will be good when they get the segments connected as it will be a nice walk from start to finish.

I have been having good long treadmill workouts at the gym. The back of my neck was getting sweaty and wet with just the inch of hair I have. Today I rode my bike (finally saw some blue sky!) to the haircutter's and trimmed the bottom edge of my hair very close.

The dial scale at the gym weighed me more than five pounds less than I thought I weighed. The one at home is weighing me several pounds more than I weighed two weeks ago!

Yes, I am looking for a new scale. Still seeking suggestions.

I am looking forward to vacation in New Brunswick that will be mostly active outside activities. PLEASE, NO RAIN!!! Hope I eat well while I am away.

I won't be logging in until I gt back after the July 4, so everyone have a great holiday!

I walked twice today, since we had such nice weather 72 degrees and no humidity, though it clouded up and looked like rain all afternoon giving way to sprinkling now. It was in the mid 60's this morning when I did my main walk at sunrise.

I walked 3.2 miles this morning, then I walked to lunch today and the round trip was 1.2 miles. Totaling 4.4 miles for the day.

I've been having a great week for eating and exercise, and the scale is still up 'bout half a pound. Kiiiinda discouraging. I wouldn't mind so much if I could figure out what the deal was, but I haven't been up on salt or anything. *kicks scale* To be honest, I suspect it's muscle building, because I can see a little more definition in my legs and arms. Still, I would like muscle and lower numbers. Blah. I think I'm mostly grumpy because someone at work made an offhand comment to me that someone else turned into a fat joke about me (someone that I don't know, actually, so it's not like it was friendly joking). Not cool. :sad2:

Ah well. Better things next week, right? EA is sending me a new leg band for my Active 'game' based on the picture of the break I sent them, and the receipt, so I can keep going with the broken one til it gets here.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend! I'll be at work, so someone light a sparkler on my behalf, okay? :wizard:

Back from vacation week. I was active, but I ate LOTS of chocolate.

We toured the Ganong Chocolate Museum in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

Ganong Bros. Limited is Canada's oldest candy company; founded in 1873. Four generations of family in the company. Invented and introduced the first 5-cent chocolate nut bar in North America. Mostly makes boxed chocolates, like Russel Stover.

Lots of samples (yummy!) during the tour. I bought some very good chocolates. And a bag full of "seconds", sort of malformed, but still yummy chocolates.

My weight is about the same as it was a week ago. Now, I have to get the people at work help me eat the chocolates I brought home!

I have not been on the boards as much in the last week or so (mainly since the 1st). My work is REALLY busy through the 15th of the month. The latter half slows down a bit, so not only do I get more time to surf during the day, but I feel like doing more of it at home too. So forgive me if I am absent off and on until then.

I am still plodding along, but did not weigh this week. Saturday, I shall be getting back on the scale. I'll report my results then.

And I must say:

I have started to pack up part of dinner for the next days lunch before we serve ourselves for dinner. That way we both have lunch for the next day and are less tempted to gorge at dinner. That being said, my waistline hasn't budged much. Time to start eating more veggies.

When we go out to a restaurant, we always bring our own leftover containers. As soon as the food is put on the table, cut it in half and scoop aside for the next day's lunch.

The reason for our own continers? The flimsy foam clamshell containers do not close well for transport. We have decided that we can only eat out if we walk or ride bike to get there.

And, yes, I also do water aerobics and some lap swimming.

I love listening to the Podcast while I walk. Unfortunately I've gotten all caught up on all the archive shows, so that only leaves me a couple hours a week of listening pleasure. ( Don't tell anyone, but I have been known to listen to rival podcasts from time to time :scared1:

I've made myself some playlists on my ipod to fill in for non-podcast walks, if I keep them at about 60 minutes in length then I can usually figure I'm getting in about 3.5 miles of walking.

I have been randomly going back and choosing a few shows to re-listen to from the archives. I also tend to listen to each weeks show more than once, to make sure I didn't miss something, since a lot of them I listen to while I work and get interrupted from time to time and tend miss things.

It is okay to listen to other podcasts. Even non-Disney podcasts, really!

My walking partner has a sore throat and is limiting talking. Past few days, we walked together, each listening to our own ipods. Listening does make the walk go faster.

Yesterday was a total "off" day for me. Didn't want to cook. It was raining (again) so we had to drive to the restaurant. Too tired to go to gym. We walked around inside of, WalMart, then in the drizzle walked around the perimeter of the shopping center parking lot. That must have been good for a mile or so.

I just finished eating a piece of chocolate cake while reading the last page of this thread! :scared1: I get daily e-mails from Jillian Michaels, and today's was about how long you should exercise. She suggests 60 minutes per day, which is the World Health Organization's recommendation. She said if you're exercising only 30 minutes per day (Surgeon General's recommendation), you'll maintain your weight but not lose it. Gee - I'd be thrilled if I averaged 30 minutes per day, but that would involve getting off the computer!! :lmao:

THURSDAY: THE FITNESS FACTOR

How Much to Exercise Each Day

You may have heard the U.S. Surgeon General's recommendation of 30 minutes of physical activity a day. This is intended for people who want to maintain the most basic level of fitness — but not for people who want to lose weight. In a week, 30 minutes a day works out to an expenditure of about 1,000 calories, which is fine if you are looking to maintain your current weight. But if you want to lose, you're going to have to be prepared for a bit more work.

I much prefer the World Health Organization's recommendation of 60 minutes at a time as a starting point for my clients — an hour is ideal to get the most out of your workout and see significant results. Your 60-minute workout sessions should always include a 5-minute warm-up, followed by 50 minutes of your primary cardio or strength-training exercises, followed by at least 5 minutes of cooling down and stretching.

Of course, putting in more time will get you more results — but there's a limit. Excessive intense physical activity releases stress hormones, such as cortisol, into the body. This can actually inhibit weight loss, causing your body to react by storing fat and retaining water out of self-protection. So, to reach your goal, I recommend limiting intense exercise to no more than two hours a session.

mainegal
07-09-2009, 02:49 PM
I do get in sixty minute sessions four to five times a week. Hooray for me!

I am now going to try to get in short spurts of activity. Short walk at lunch time, park at the far end of the parking lot. If I go out to a restaurant, we have to walk or bike to get there. And go for a short walk after the restaurant meal.

I am still having trouble with my snacking habits.

Finally a nice sunny day, so I go for lunchtime walk.
Still nice after work, so I am go for evening walk.

I was walking with my partner, each of us plugged into our own podcasts on our ipods. I was walking faster, listening to the show, not paying attention, and boom! I caught my toe on a broken up sidewalk and down I went! Scraped knee, bruised hands from trying to break the fall, and slightly sprained ankle.

It was 20 minutes into the show (one mile), just heard the question about what would surprise us about the podcasters.

I didn't finish the show. My partner and I gave up our ipods and talked to each other as I slowly finished the walk. Walked almost an hour to finish up the four mile walk.

I am icing the ankle now. Saving the rest of the podcast for another walk. And, yes, I will be more careful!
