I didn't want to start up the old thread again, but I got my tickets and here's my experience at DTD Guest Relations.

I got my free 5-day ticket with all the bells and whistles. Jim, your pink ID will work fine. Every service member, active, retired or reserve component is eligible for one. I think non-retired reserve component need to show activation orders to get theirs, but I'm not sure about that.

My experience with companion tickets was:

I was able to buy a 5-day hopper for my wife for $124 plus tax and have the ticket activated.

I was able to buy two 5-day hoppers for $124 each plus tax for friends who are coming down in October and I was able to activate the tickets. Neither one of them was present. I had to provide birth dates for each of them.

I was able to buy an additional 5-day companion ticket for myself to use in October. That ticket was also activated and I used one day on this trip.

I was told the following:

Each service is allowed to get one free ticket and up to five companion tickets (more under very special circumstances where familys are larger than five people). They do not require all people to be present to activate them. This mirrors other people's experience. The CM at Guest Relations didn't know what I was talking about when I asked if people had to be present to activate the tickets. That might not always be the case, but I specifically asked and was told no.

There was no hassle what-so-ever. Each ticket has the individual's name on it and says that an ID is required.

That's how it worked for me. A great deal. Thanks Disney

So, if I understand the 5 day companion tickets are non-expiring since you used 1 day and are planning to use the rest in October???

They expire on 12/23... but you can use them anytime up until then until you run out of days......

Thanks for the info! We're going in July, and will be using the military tickets. Haven't decided if we'll get them here, or at SOG.
We used the room discount to book the cabin, and saved 40%! Can't wait to get there, only 6 more weeks!!!

Thanks for the info and THANK YOU for your service!!

My brother is going to Disney and he's AF and will be getting the free ticket and 5 companion tickets for us. He'll be arriving the day before us so I guess according to your report he can activate them for us. I was wondering how this would work.

Also, where do you recommend he get the tickets. Should he get them now at the base or wait until he's in Disney? And is it only at SOG where he can get them? Can you go up to any ticket booth at the parks and get them there?

Thanks!

I have many memories of Ft. Drum. Notice I didn't say happy - just memories. One of them involves September, snow coming through the cracks in the walls of my room, and they Army's refusal to turn on the heat until 1 October.

I saw snow there once on June 30.

Once the billeting office asked me if I wanted the $5 room or the $8 room. I asked them what the difference was besides 3 bucks. They told me the $8 room came with a bed. I took the $8 room. They really know how to treat a bird colonel, don't they?

This is going to sound like a silly question, but at what point are you considered "military" enough to qualify for the discount. My daughter's boyfriend will be going with us in July for a quick trip before he goes into basic training for the Navy (September). He is all signed up and everything, but hasn't done any of his training yet. Will he be able to get the free pass? The rest of us all have APs.

He would have to have a valid military ID. Since he reports in September, he will not have the id in July. Despite having signed enlistment papers, he is not a member of the military until his reporting date.

That's what I thought. Just thought I would check for him just in case! Thanks!

It is great for all those who can get the discounts...However, my husband served his country for 10 years in the USAF and we get absolutely nothing to show for it. Not just Disney. Being a Vet has many different meanings and respects. :guilty:
