So some time last year I planned a trip for my mothers birthday for late October 2009. It was for my mother and step father and then myself and then fiance. Well some months ago I found myself single again! We are still going and I am hoping to find others to meet up with at that time. My parents don't do most of the rides or stay up late and I will end up doing a lot of things solo...my dates are Oct 17th to the 24th :goodvibes

Wish I was heading down at that time as well ... late Oct is my favorite time of year to visit WDW! I was down over Halloween in '06, and liked it so much we ended up hitting Halloween again in '07. You've got the F&W Fest, usually decent weather, lower crowds, Halloween decorations etc. Hopefully Oct 2010 will be my next trip down.
I've got a strong feeling most of my future trips will be planned around the Food & Wine fest

I will be there those same dates solo.
I always like meeting new people in WDW..
I met som DIS people 2 weeks ago in WDW and we had a great time.
There is some others going that weekend. The plan was for a meet (similar to what we had in May) but it is now sort of split because of the economy for some. The weekend you leave is the weekend some will be there.
Am sure there will be some things to get together with others...

Hi,
I will be there Oct 18-24 with my family. Three adult couples. We will be staying at AKV Kiandi House Savannah side. Never been to WDW during Oct, but am really looking forward to the Halloween decorations and festivities.
Hope to see you there,

I remember reading that thread and commenting, but I was confused because it kept going back and forth if people were going then or early October, thanks for reminding me!! :wizard:
And hello to the fellow VA people that are going then, it would be great to meet up sometime down there!!

I might be down there then. I had forgotten about the October meet, but I am thinking of registering for the ToT 5K run which is on the 24th. If I am feeling ambitious I may do the 13k instead. There is also a run in September I may do, the EE Challange, besides a 5K it is an obstacle course and scavenger hunt.

Off topic, but with the talk of Richmond ...
My first engineering job out of college was down in Hopewell, VA. I lived in Chester and later Brandermill for a few years. Growing up near Philly I definately felt like I was in the south with the slower pace, but it was a beautiful area, and everyone was so friendly.
With summer coming, I remember spending most of my Friday nights at Brown's Island (don't know if they still have Friday Cheers), and also hanging out a lot at Legend Brewery, where they had live music on the deck overlooking the James River.

Actually I am from Massachusetts myself, so it took me a while to get used to a slower pace, but I did go to college in South Carolina which helped. My co workers and I are actually going to Friday Cheers this weekend!!

I will be up in Charlottesville for a bit. Going to see some family (1-2 June) and then to England (from Dulles) and then visit more family (17th-21st), then home (22nd). I was born down in Martinsville, but my mom's family is from Madison, just north of C-ville. Miss the mountains!

So funny I am leaving June 1st to travel for work and then getting back and taking a trip to Vegas on the 18th

Shannon I'm seriously considering 10/16-10/21 as an early birthday present to myself, I'm still throwing around dates. I was trying to get in free dining before 10/3 since its such a good deal not to mention like $500 less since it will just be me. But that means I would have to start my trip in late September and I don't really want to go then. I just got back but I have to go again and soon! I was thinking of staying at the BW or in that vacinity, where are you going to be staying?

I'll be down the same week. Just booked my air fare this morning. I'm only flying one way. I'll hitch a ride with the parents in the RV on the way back.
There's nothing better then arriving at the Fort from the airport, and having the RV already set up and ready to go. All I need to do is grab a nice cold beer from the fridge, and sit outside under the awning.
A big part of my week with be spent at the World Showcase during the F&W Fest. This will be my 3rd Fest ... '06, '07, and now '09

I have never been down during halloween time or F&W Festival and I am really excited to see the world at a different time!
The real excitement for F&W Fest begins around the end of July when they start releasing the event schedules. There are a variety of free and pay events with tastings, demonstrations, celebrity chefs etc ... Yes I'm one of those Food Network geeks
Just a word of caution that the F&W Fest can get expensive. It's great drinking and tasting everything, but things can get a bit pricey. For me it's worth it though. I'm like a kid in candy store when it comes to all the international kiosks. And of course Sam Adams always has a special F&W Fest Anniversary brew on tap (I love my beer)

Yes sorry for the hijacking. But it does take place late October.... I have never done this but know some that have and they said it is a lot of fun. and the park is open for runners and their guests until 2am, I think. This will be the longest race I have run, but it will be a good warmup for January. I am signed up for the half.
