at the mo we've got 12 nights free dining at ASM booked.
i'm thinking of changing this reservation to 8 nights free dining, then renting points for 4 nights and paying for 4 nights DDP.

if i add DDP onto a DVC reservation, do i need to buy park tickets as part of the package? we're AP holders so i dont want to pay for more tickets we dont need. also i understand that i pay the resort when we check in for the DDP. can anyone confirm this?

No park ticket purchase is required to add the dining plan to a DVC reservation.

If you are renting points, you must have the member you are renting from add the DDP to your reservation at least 2 days before your arrival date. DVC Member Services won't even talk to anyone who isn't the actual member, so you can't add the plan yourself.

Because Member Services cannot process payment for the DDP, you will pay for it in full when you check in to the resort.

This is correct. Have the DVC card holder call and tell them to add the dining plan. It will need to be paid for before arrival...I think it is like 2 days before. You do not need to purchase tickets.

Pay when you check in. No other option. DVC isn't taking any money directly from you, so you can't pay them in advance. As stated above, Member Services can't/won't/doesn't accept payment for the Dining Plan. It does need to be reserved in advance, but paid at registration.
