Anyone else excited about seeing the sneak preview of "Glee" tonight on Fox? It looks amazing (which means it won't last more than a few episodes when it officially premiers this fall). I hope I am wrong and it lasts a few seasons (still bitter that one of my all time favorite shows "Popular" on WB did not make it to third season).:happytv:

I've got the DVR set!
We saw Matthew Morrison on Broadway in The Light in the Piazza and thought he was just brilliant! (and rather adorable). Can't wait to see him as the teacher who wants to take over the glee club.

We're looking forward to it....
Unfortunately, it's on opposite the 'Dancing with the Stars' finale....
Hmm, maybe we should step into the 21st century and buy a DVR... :rolleyes1

GLEE was great!
A few thoughts:
-Football player turned singer was definitely hot
-Matthew look great and was solid. He is such a great guy and hopefully this will take him a little further in the "mainstream" entertainment world (not that there is anything wrong with broadway-says the man called RENThead)
-The girl lead was like a little mini-Idina. She was great in Spring Awakening and this role is great for her.
-Love the eclectic school staff. Ya gotta laugh because they remind you of actual teacher you had or know of.
Hope this has a great fall run...they have set the bar high for themselves.

The football player gone singer was waaaaay cuter. I thought the show was good, but it did have a couple slow moments for me (mostly the scenes with glee director guy and wife). ...
I thought the wife & the teacher's relationship rang very hollow, it veered between stale & goofy "camp" to pathos. Most everything else - acting, singing, even the predictability - I liked quite a bit, but I think the writers & the two actors (teacher & wife) need to go back to the drawing-board on how to better develop the two characters' relationship.
And I can *so* tell that very few (if any) of the students are really high-school age.

You can download the episode for free on iTunes right now (was too lazy to read if someone already noted that). :) I bought the two songs...because I just laugh on many levels when I hear Rehab. And Journey's original track is now in the iTunes top 100 (at least it was on Thursday)...probably all those teens/tweens going "who is that, I think I heard it before, did Madonna sing that?" :)

First off. OMG! Will's wife! She's evil! (and her sister is worse!). This is gonna get ugly.
Secondly. NO ONE can chew scenery the way Jane Lynch does. She's is AWESOME as Sue Sylvester.
Matthew Morrison is pretty much perfect as Will Shuster. And I love it when he sings!
Lea Michelle and Cory Montieth are both excellent again, but it's nice to see some of the focus on the other kids this episode.
Looking forward to the episode where Kurt comes out of the closet (like anyone would be surprised.) It's apparently fairly early in the season. Oh, and he had the BEST line of the night! "Someday you'll all be working for me!" :lmao:

I really wanted to love this show. I was a total drama geek in high school (VP of the Drama Club, how bad is that!), and I was so let down. It was like all the funny parts were in the commercials and when I watched the show it was all the bad parts of high school that I'd forgotten about. :guilty:.

The part where Kurt comes out to Mercedes was so piognant! The actor perfectly captured that desire to let his friend know who he really was balanced with the fear of not knowing if it would mean the end of his friendship.
I got all teary eyed. Beautiful, honest moment that was a perfect contrast to the normal Glee over the top antics.

Beard according to urban dictionary = A common word used to address a homosexual's female friend who he takes around town; he normally calls this companion his "girlfriend" to prove to the world that he is a masculine, football watching, heterosexual male. Although, he may think that this so called 'image' is working, he's actually fooling himself. It's completely obvious to on-lookers that he is gayer than a chihuahua in pink shades.

It was an excellent episode. Though, I will echo unfreshdiva's desire for at least one big musical number from the main cast. Not that Beyonce's song isn't great, but it was a bit overplayed last night.
I'm surprised that I was even beginning to feel empathy for Puck and Quinn. They're doing some amazing writing on this show.
All of that pales in comparison, however, to Chris Colfer's amazing perfomance as Kurt. Every scene is embued with such a pure, simple, honesty. His scenes could have descended into camp SO easily; but they didn't because that young actor has committed to his portrayal not just as stereotype for the sake of stereotype, but as a real true human being with those stereotypical traits.
And his coming out scene with his dad. Actually every scene with his dad. So beautiful. His dad was SO proud of him. You could hear the fear and vulnerability in each of their voices. Again. So pure, so honest. So true.
I cried.

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT! From day 1 everyone I see her I think of Idina.
I have been fortunate enough to see Kristen and Mathew live on stage and I do have to say, the editing tonight was crap and made them both look like they couldn't really sing when they were doing their duet. Kinda sad for that to happen on a show of this level.

I have to agree that they didn't show them at their best with that duet. It sounded over-produced, and did the autotune them? Why on earth would anyone mess with Kristin Chenowith's voice in post production?
What did you see Matthew Morrison in? We were in the first row at Lincoln Center for The Light in the Piazza, which meant that we were about six feet away when he took off his shirt for their love scene. :hyper:

Kristen is our 10-year-old daughter's absolute hero. She has Kristen's picture all over her wall in her room. She has Kristen's albums all memorized. It is really interesting. Our daughter thinks that she has a lot in common with Kristen. They are both very petite, they both like singing and acting, they both were adopted and Grace thinks they even look alike. (only Grace is Chinese...) Glee is too "adult" Grace to watch, but she would have loved the music.
Kristen's book is really interesting, and funny. I highly recommend it.

Okay, LOVED all the musical numbers. My favorite . . . is a toss up between Quinn's Supremes Cover and the jam session. The jam was really cool because it wasn't over produced and auto-tuned all to hell.
Loving how we're getting to know some of the newer Glee kids little bit by little bit.
The only thing I'm not loving about this show is the whole fake pregnancy thing.
oh, and when they don't show Puck shirtless. I really don't like it when he's got clothes on.

But has anyone else looked at the songs listed for the Season 1 album? Looks like we have Say a Little Prayer and DEFYING GRAVITY coming up. Seriously...our little Mini-Menzel singing DG is about as good as I could have wished for on this show (except a little more skin a couple of the football players).

Bought the CD yesterday. LOVE IT!
"Say a Little Prayer" was from episode two or three. It's the song Quinn and the other Cheerios used to audition for the Glee Club.
I have to say that I'm bummed that "Last Name", "Rehab", "Mercy", and the "It's My Live/Confessions" and "Halo/Walking on Sunshine" mash-ups aren't included on the disc, and aren't slated to be on volume two either. Those were some great numbers!
I am thrilled that the Neil Diamond cover by Mark Salling (Puck) is included though. As well as Jayma Mays singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" (On the Target "extra tracks" version). Love both of them.

And then I choked up again when Kurt told his dad that he'd thrown the audition to protect him.

Here's what they had to say about that part on AfterElton.com
"I was especially impressed the show managed to so effectively humanize Sue without being patronizing to folks with Down's Syndrome."
And that pretty much nailed it.

I didn't think last night was as good as last week, but I still really liked it. It was causing me to reflect on how I would react to things as a mom. Like when Finn told his mom about the baby (really, how long can this go on with him believing he fathered that baby...) and she was supportive, but shedding quiet tears.
I was laughing out loud when Shu was singing to Emma and Rachel. Simply because I was mooning over him, too!

Depends. If they know they're not coming back, then yeah, it prob will be tied up with a pretty little bow. If they know they'll be back for another season, then I expect a cliffhanger ending.
The scene where Will found out was VERY uncomfortable for me. I totes get where his anger was coming from and think it was justified. He just came across as overly aggressive. Granted, having an abusive father likely colors my opinion here, but I was all, "Oh no he didn't!" when he cornered her and grabbed her wrist.

Love the set up going forward with the story lines.
Love "My life would suck" and the way they incorporated moments from just about every song they performed on season one.
Love the blond cheerleader. She is so funny. When the school for the deaf was performing and she was just waving to them...I couldn't stop laughing.
Love Flinn (Corey) more and more each episode. I wish they would write an episode where he falls in love with a stunningly handsome, yet old Disboard member. Just sayin...I think I would audition for that.
Love "don't rain on my parade" Seriously that little half pint Idina look-a-like gave me goosebumps.
Love Matthew! He has grown so much since Hairspray and Light in the Piazza. They really need to let him sing more...just not things like The Thong Song. Let him belt like he can!

Of course Finn and Mike singing Endless Love in the football lockerroom showers is probably out, so I will go with Plan B...
My little Glee homage to RENT. The cast doing Seasons Of Love with an overlay of Take Me or Leave Me. I just can't decide who I would have sing take me or leave me. Vocally I think Rachel and Mercedes would be amazing. But it might be more fun to have Kurt sing it to Finn. Perhaps an appearance by Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs would fit in the episode as well.

Lea Michelle is such a great singer. I am amazed in every episode some of the notes that girl hits. Near the end of the Beatles song at the end I could believe her voice over every else. It sounded like a musical instrumnet.
So Glee better not become the film Enchanted and not have Idina sing.
Jonathan Groff is cute and can sing plus sounds great singing with Leah but he looks as bout as much as he is in high school as I do.

I was just going to say that too ... heard they autotune the hell out of this show.
Not always, and not everybody.
Leah Michelle is rarely autotuned. But she's got a phenomenal voice. As does Matthew Morrison. I don't think they autotune Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, or Jenna Ushkowitz that much either (Kurt, Artie, Mercedes, and Tina respecively).
Overall, they've got a great cast with really good singing voices.
I think they autotune Cory Montieth (who plays Finn, and was singing the Doors song last night) the most. He's probably the weakest vocally, I'd say.
turkygurl
04-15-2010, 02:36 PM
Yeah, they have to autotune Cory (Finn) pretty much constantly, as well as Mark (Puck) and Dianna (Quinn). They are actors hired to act and carry a tune. Cory didn't even sing at his audition, just played drums on cups. Being able to "carry a tune" =/= "being a good singer."
Lea, Jenna, Matt all have Broadway backgrounds and are great singers.
Amber, Kevin, and Chris don't have quite the backgrounds, but are naturally talented and gifted singers as well.
As much as I liked Lea and Jon's natural ease around each other, the boy does not look like a high-schooler. I could pass for 16 WAAAAAAY before he can. Maybe I'll enter the open casting call.... I'm only 2 yrs older than Cory. LOL

Overall I hoe the season gets better. For some reason I was the only one bothered in the room because I felt as if all the things we resolved in season 1 are an issue again, so it feels like we have all the same problems as season 1, which makes it all feel sort of like a waste to me:
1. If they don't win the ______ competition glee club is over!
2. Rachel and Finn want to be together but can't!
3. Sue is out to get Will!
4. The relationship between the teacher and the crazy counselor just isn't meant to be right now!
Hoping for better things to come, at least there was a lot of music in the episode, except I feel like in our neighborhood there were two camps, the Doors, and the Beatles, and ever since then I've never cared much for the Doors :confused3

I'm a huge madonna fan too, and I was worried the episode was going to be too cheesy... for the most part, it wasn't, thank goodness. I thought Sue piping the music into the hallways just so we could hear Madonna sing was a bit of a stretch, however.
Did you guys notice the kids in the hallway during the mash-up all wearing different Madonna outfits from her videos? I thought that was a nice touch!
I really enjoyed Kurt and Mercedes singing 4 minutes with the cheerios. Roomie and I are catching up on the second half of the season. I don't care for this bit as much because it's turning into a soap, and the caricatures are getting annoying, and running jokes are growing stale, and there's a song every few minutes.

Roomie and I are catching up on the second half of the season. I don't care for this bit as much because it's turning into a soap, and the caricatures are getting annoying, and running jokes are growing stale, and there's a song every few minutes.
Okay NOW I feel like I can say something - cause I thought it was just me-
But I've tried to give this show a chance - seen like 5 episodes and so far I am underwhelmed - yes very soap opera like and so far very formulaic and redundant.
I love jane lynch - have since Waiting for Guffman. And also Kristin Chenoweth - love her in most stuff but especially Pushing up Daisies.
Some of the bigger numbers are good but for the most I'm not feeling it.

I have already proclaimed on FaceBook, so I might as well proclaim here:
I do NOT "get" Glee. Don't get it. Can't wrap my head around what the show is supposed to be. A parody? Ironic? Serious? When I watch I am so distracted by the feeling that they can't find their niche that I can't concentrate on the episode.
The musical numbers are mostly enjoyable, and obviously the cast is talented. I am missing something about the intent of the show, though. I think if I understood the motivation behind it I might be able to understand better.

AMAZING EPISODE TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Neil Patrick Harris was so good! Loved the duet with him and Matthew Morrison.
How awesome is Kevin McHale? Loved his Safety Dance/Flash Mob day dream.
The duet between Lea Michelle and Idina Menzel? TO. DIE. FOR! So awesome. And I love that Shelby has been revealed as Rachel's mom!
Also loved the cameo of Orlando area actor, Paul Vogt as the director at the community theatre.
Which brings me to the most terrifying thought of the evening: Community Theatre Productions of Les Miz! :scared:
I think I'm going to have nightmares for a week at the mere thought of that! :scared1:
