Hi All ~ after reading the 'What I wouldn't do' on DDP thread (great one by the way :thumbsup2) I'm confused.
We are on the basic DDP. From reading about the posts from people that wouldn't bring food into the rooms for snacks and breakfast...I can understand the snacks, but what about the breakfast?
Should I use some of our snacks for breakfast, is that what I'm missing? Where is the breakfast coming to come from? :rotfl:
At first I was out to maximize our plan, but from reading these great threads, I'm now of a mindset to eat what I want, when I want, and don't hoard. If I have to pay at the end of the trip, so be it. But I'm still wondering about breakfast if I don't want to take time in the a.m..since we want to be at rope drop most days that we aren't having a sit down breakfast.
I'm sure the answer is glaringly obvious, but for some reason I'm confused. Thanks so much!!!:worship:

I think it depends on your eating and touring style. We do bring a LITTLE bit of breakfast for the rooms - a box of cereal and a bag of mini bagels. That's it - we get milk with a snack credit and maybe a banana or two to share. We don't like going to the food court for breakfast (lots of people like to split a couple CS credits for the yummy breakfast platters) - because it takes too much time. Better to let the kids eat while dh and I take turns in the shower.
We do bring a couple snacks too - but not much. Sometimes if we're waiting in a line or for a show and don't feel like heading out to a snack stand and the kids are hungry - it's just more convenient to pull out a granola bar from the backpack.

I think it also depends on your party size and make up. I normally travel as 3 adults. Generally we share 2 counter service meals for lunch so I can use the other counter service and a couple of snacks for breakfast. We also tend to return to the room after dinner, so we bring back any leftovers and often enjoy them in the morning.

We always bring stuff for breakfast...normally oatmeal bars, granola bars, and instant oatmeal. For our first 3 trips with free dining, I also packed things like goldfish crackers, juice boxes and fruit snacks. We found that we didn't eat much of those things with all the snacks and desserts we get on the DDP, so last trip I ordered water from Costco and just packed breakfast food. It worked out great.

We didn't bring snacks or breakfast items, had plenty to eat on the plan and still had CS credits to use up on ouf final day. We did not walk around WDW hungry either.
The only snacks I recall us a having from home are things grandma had in her bag for our 5yo, basically a few boxes of raisins. I'm a golfer and probably had a bag of peanuts that I tend to keep in my bag for an on course snack.
Now, we were a family of 2 Adults and a 5yo boy. Honestly, grandma used most of the snacks credits. :rotfl: we found ourselves sharing most CS meals and at times saved the desserts (yogurt, cake, fruit) for breakfast or snacks for later.
The only money we spent off the plan was really due to using 2TS at Narcoossee's and keeping a TS for each night. Had we canceled a TS and eaten CS that night we wouldn't have needed to spend that money. However, we wanted every meal and meal experience that we had so it worked for us.
I think if you have a few normal snacks for the road when you arrive at WDW you'll be fine on the DP. Good luck and eat well!

We always bring cereal, plastic bowls, spoons, and granola bars with us, and buy milk there at the hotel. Everyone eats breakfast in the room while getting ready, so we are ready to enjoy our morning in the park.
We will have breakfast from the hotel CS maybe once a trip on a day when we need a break from the early morning park routine. We also usually do one TS breakfast.

I agree it depends on your party and what you like to do for breakfast. We are not big breakfast eaters so we usually bring Pop Tarts, cereal bars, and food of that nature with us to have for breakfast in the room.
We bring cereal for breakfast because it gives dd something to do while we are getting ready and she doesn't eat a whole lot at breakfast anyways so it's not worth paying for it. It's easier for us in the mornings to get breakfast out of the way. She would not sit through breakfast in the food court just knowing Mickey was waiting to see her.

As some PPs have said that they do, we brought pop tarts and cereal bars for breakfast. A few times one of us would go get a breakfast from the QS and the 2 kids and I would split it (DH doesn't eat breakfast). The morning that we did RD at DHS we got going late so we ate after riding Toy Story, we each got a cinnamon roll from Starring Rolls using snack credits and they were delish.

We bring single serve cereal, bagels and fruit for breakfast with us and purchase milk and OJ once there. We take turns getting ready in the morning and the others eat while one is getting dressed. Then I plan ADR's so that TS credits will be used by the last day, also have a fair idea of where we want to eat CS. That leaves us with the snacks. I take granola bars and such to the park with us and a bottle of water for each person in the party. If we want a snack we get one, but usually on the last day of our trip we end up using what snack credits we have left all at once, get non perishable snacks and pack them for the trip home. For our last trip we were a party of 5 youngest was 15yr old and we took home 40+ snacks, we were so busy doing the parks we did not even think about snacking or being thirsty.

For us it depends on which park we're going to be at, what time we want to wake up and what time we plan to be at the park (rope drop or later). If we're in a hurry, we'll eat granola bars on the run, or have already stashed some single cereals/milk from the food court, and the kids can eat those while we're getting ready, or eat granola bars while waiting for the busses.
Other times, if we have time, hubby will go get a breakfast platter or two for us to share while we're getting ready. VERY rarely will we actually go eat at the food court for breakfast unless its a day we have nothing planned except swimming and shopping. We like breakfast but don't have to have a big one, just something to tide us over until the next meal.

We aren't big breakfast people. The thought of getting up and going to a huge sit down breakfast doesn't excite us. We bring breakfast bars and pop tarts along with other snacks and water, and soda with us for the room. So we sleep in and eat while we are getting ready. Then we have a nice early lunch between 11am-12pm.
I'd rather save my snacks for smoothies, dole Whips, or special treats throughout the day or get something as I'm leaving and eat it as a late night snack. We also eat dinner fairly early between 6-6:30pm most nights.

I agree it depends on your plans for the day. If you have a TS planed for lunch, then maybe bring some breakfast items for the room so that everyone can have a little something and save their appetites for the lunch. My family usually will pay OOP for some breakfast items like a couple muffins, juice, coffee, etc because we usually eat QS for lunch at whichever park we happen to be at, and then have TS for dinner at one of our fave places. You can use those snack credits for the breakfast items, or save them to buy popcorn or a drink in the parks. We have 5 in our family and i know when we stop for a snack, say a popcorn or something, we dont buy 5 popcorns...maybe 2. So we rarely ever use all of our snacks. So most of the time we will use them for the breakfast items when we can. Either way...the DDP is plenty of food. Happy Planning!

We don't eat 3 big meals at home and don't on vacation either. We will either eat a late breakfast or an early lunch and then a table servie dinner at 7-8pm. We use our snack credits if we get hungry in the afternoon.

Last year I used a snack credit for a muffin and I think I had 2 CS breakfasts. The rest of the time I ate cereal bars/granola bars or oatmeal.
This year to save time in the morning I am packing a box of cereal and will get some milk (soy) for us to have in the room. It took a really long time in the morning going down to the food court and waiting for a chef, putting my nieces order in and then waiting for it to be ready.
This will save more time. Not too worried if we have extra credits at the end its Free Dining. I will give away drinks/food to others that aren't on the plan.

I bring breakfast partly because it takes DH about an hour to get up and dressed. You could park a semi-truck in there and he still wouldn't move. The other reason being that I find most of the breakfast CS to be way to greasy for my tastes. I prefer some fruit and yogurt. It also makes for a much more relaxing morning than eating in a loud food court.

Also have the DH that won't get moving. We bring pop-tarts, muffins & cereal to eat in the room while we are all taking turns in the shower. Saves us time if we want to be at the park early. We usually do one TS breakfast on our trip. We used to pack snacks too, but have found we really don't use them...we are stuffed from the CS & TS meals during the day.

The biggest reason I take snacks is because I am diabetic, so is my mother, so they usually come back with us, but we have them just in case we feel like our bs is dropping, they are quick and easier than standing in a line if needed. Not to mention when my bs drops, staning in a line is the last thing I CAN do. When the kids were little (pre DDP), I took snacks for them as I would no way have been able to afford lots of snacks. As it was we spent $10 everytime we wanted something to drink until I got wise and kept the bottles and just refilled them with water from the fountains.

We bring breakfast items and snacks more for convenience then anything else. We are not big breakfast eaters, but like to have it there if we need it. After a few days on the dining plan the only ones eating breakfast are my 12 yr old daughter and 1 year old son. If the 12 year old doesn't get something in her before we leave she will be begging to stop and get something during prime park time (when we get up that early) and will likely not be hungry when we stop for lunch.

Last year I found a family that wasn't on the DP on our last night and asked if I could get them some drinks as we had some credits to use up. We were flying and couldn't take them with us. They only wanted water, I thought they might give up and leave as it took quite a while for me to figure out all the credits and get back to where they were waiting. I still ended up leaving a bunch of drinks for Mousekeeping that were in the fridge.
I found most mornings just walking into the food court made me not want to eat.
