I haven't read too much about Trails End on the restuarant board so I'm hoping maybe some of you FW experts can help! I heard that the menu on All Ears may be outdated. We are planning on going for dinner so can anyone tell me what's currently on the menu? Do they still have both fried chicken and ribs or did they get rid of the ribs? I'd really love to know what is on the menu and if it's worth going to while we're there. (We're thinking of giong there and then to the campfire sing along)

Oh and if anyone has pix of trails' end dinner OR the campfire singalong, I'd be thrilled!!!!!

THANK YOU!

Just checked and it looks like the AllEars menu (http://allears.net/menu/menu_teb.htm) is pretty up-to-date.

If you run a search for "Trails End" on this board you should turn up some threads with more info on people's experiences. I know there's been plenty of reports in recent months. :thumbsup2

to find folks like y'all on the boards to help me plan my trip!

Sometimes when you think you know everything about Disneyworld - someone mentions something I haven't heard about and then it sparks this interest in me that I must find everything out about it!!!

That something is the Trail's Dust Buffet....so thanks for the link and details!!!

I know some people do not like Trails End, but my family does. It is typical Disney pricing and I don't think that surprises any of us. We usually do dinner at least twice and hit it for breakfast a couple of times also. It is a typical buffet, but the service is friendly and we can eat as much as we want and there is something for everyone. Give it a shot and let us know what you think. Have a good time!

We had dinner at the Trails End 2 weeks ago and it was the best we have had there. They had fried chicken and roasted chicken, ribs, salmon and beef on the carvery. Lots of variety - vegetables, pasta, potatoes, pizza, soup, salads, corn bread. For dessert they had soft ice cream an variety of toppings, cookies, apple crisp and rice krispie squares. It was very good.

We also went for breakfast one morning and it was OK, not as good as it used to be, they do not have the selection that they used to, but it wasn't bad, just OK.

Carol - so they DO still have both chicken and ribs? I'd heard rumors that ribs were gone and they replaced with pulled pork. So I'm guessing that rumor wasn't true, or at least not for dinner time.

Sounds YUMMY to me!

I wonder if the TE menu quality or operating price points are lowered when the free dining is offered (and at any other on-property restaurant for that matter). I could make the arguement that this would be the case. Then when free dining is over and they go back to their regular mix of paid Disney Dining and walk-up customer sales, they can affort to raise the quality or number of offerings.

We're going Thanksgiving week so I doubt free dining will be extended into that period. I'm looking forward to a good TE dinner. I like TE and want to give it the benefit of the doubt but I will wait to see what the reports are from here as the free dining period ends.

I said it sucks because it is $18 for buffet food that is on par with the slop they served in college.

The dining plans have definitely affected the quality & price of food all over Disney. Due to our proximity to WDW, we used to go the parks, or resort restaurants for dinner at least once a week, but for now have quit because it's not very good at all. The only exception IMHO is the Biergarten. It's still pretty good.

The walk-up at Mexico is on a par with Taco Bell only mucho moro dinero. Taco Bell might be a tad better. Certainly cheaper.

We haven't done T.E. for dinner in years because we're just not buffet people. We gave up on T.E. for breakfast in December because of the $$ & limited choices - and we used to go there every Saturday to eat. Unless you get Ken (everyone's favorite) or Darnell for servers - be prepared for so-so service.

I know WDW has to do whatever it takes in this economy to keep things moving, so I can't fault them for the dining plan. It's just too bad they don't offer it with the campsites when the premium & preferred sites cost as much or more than a value resort. Even with the allowance of up to 10 people per site, they'd still come out ahead because most campers don't have 10 people camping on one site.

Speaking of trails end and prices, just a reminder that starting on May 26th, all disney buffets are going up $4 add'l due to "holiday pricing". Still trying to figure out what holiday is in June. I can't believe I have to pay $4 more for trails end, puts it in line with every other over priced disney meal. I know we will be eating there less on this trip for that reason. For us that's an add'l $12 for every meal there each time.

i know, between this crock of holiday pricing crap and the water parks going up $5 just in time for the HOT HOT summer, i don't know what greedy disney is thinking in this economy. no sympathy for their hard working guests who could barely afford the prior pricing tiers. there oughtta be a law.

I've got to agree with Gatordad. Trails end has gone way downhill. And now with "holiday pricing", it's definately not worth the price. On our last trip in February, we only ate there once. We ate most of our meals either at our MH or at one of the Value Food Courts. (they were cheaper and had better food).

I hate to hear this about TE. I was really hoping to eat a meal there during our trip in September since Hoop-Dee-Doo and Mickey's Backyard Barbecue are out of our budget

Either my family has poor taste buds or the food at WDW (in general) used to be knock-your-socks-off good because the 3 trips we have taken, my whole family really enjoyed every restaurant we ate at. Obviously some were better than others, but for the most part the food was good. It was ALL over priced in my opinion, but good. Now the service....well, that's a different story.

Donna

i am going to question the increase when i approach the podium in mid june. When they say holiday pricing, i am asking WHAT HOLIDAY, just want to hear what crap they come up with. Even my "tables in rip-off land" card doesn't really offset it since that is supposedly a wash with the "tip".

WOW! First off-a 10 yr. old is an adult-that's crap! so for dinner I'm paying $24.99 for a kid who eats basically a piece of chicken, corn and ice cream?
Are they NUTS?! I think they are and I'd be nuts too if i pay those prices!:scared1:

It looks like take out increased too-please correct me if I'm wrong! It looks like my 10 yr. old (ADULT according to Disney) will be getting take out so she can get her chicken. I'm just floored!

that took the :wizard: out for my checkbook!

We'll be there during July 4th week/weekend but will only be at the water parks and bringing our dinner.;)

Just to put things into perspective:

A family of 4 (2 Adults / 2 kids ages 3-9) can eat at Trails End for the following prices after May 24th: (including Holiday price increase)

Breakfast is 17.99 each adult / 10.99 child (3-9) ( $70 including tip)
Lunch is 18.99 each adult / 16.99 child (3-9) ( $85 including tip)
Dinner is 24.99 each adult / 13.99 child (3-9) ($92 including tip)

This means a typical family of 4 has to pay $250 a day to eat at TE. If your kids are over 9 years old, it's $85 for Breakfast / $ 90 for lunch / $120 for dinner. For a grand total of $300 a day. For a buffett ? Come on!!

Disney is really looking out for the consumer during these trying times huh?

I would ask you to rerun the numbers for me, DW, and my 3 kids with the fact that my 3 kids are all "adults" to Disney (11/14/16) but then again I think I would cry if I actually saw the total. :sad1:

I think Gatordad is on the mark about heading off-property to Golden Corral. Or heck, I'll go to the Winn Dixie on Apopka-Vineland, get a big ol' box of fried chicken, some instant loaded mashed potatoes, and a bakery cake all for maybe $5 a head total.

I've been staying away from TE the last few years also, I can go to Red Lobster and get what I want (shrimp & steak) and the grandkids get what ever they want and its still less than half the price. When it was (only) $18 for lils my grandson sat there and ate broccloi (sp) till it came out his butt, I couldn't believe that was all he ate for $18. I can also watch the otters in the lake next to Red Lobster so thats entertainment!popcorn::

We by-and-large avoid buffets to begin with, and though the last time we ate there it was good, we knew it wouldn't become a habit for us. Now that the prices have gone up I can't imagine we'll be going back any time soon. My wife is a pretty light eater, and I always feel like I need to eat enough to justify the cost... but at these costs, that there's a LOT of eatin'!

This is just at TE...think about the higher end restaurants! I have friends in the food industry that say there is a high mark up on food. Knowing the bulk Disney gets (they are paying MUCH less per piece of chicken than your local restaurant does) plus soooo many people do the DP (pay for food in advance and that money collects mega-interest for Disney). Is it me or are they making a KILLING off food alone?!?!?!?!

I can feed my family of 4 for a week for less than what one would pay for one meal (with tip of course) at TE. Good grief!

We already made out plan to include Golden Corral for breakfast buffet and our "Italian night" is going to be Ci-Cis. Both of these days are our "free" days so we don't have to rush anyplace. Rest of meals at camper. Used to love TE for breakfast, but not at the current prices when I usually only had a biscuit and bowl of oatmeal! I was really happy looking on Mapquest and finding so many places to eat so close to FW--who knew :goodvibes

In the past, on average ,we dined at Disney sit down restaurants once every 4 days. Last winter the quality had declined and the prices had risen so much we only dined at Disney twice. Once at Biergarten(excellent still) and TE. While refilling our mugs every evening we would smell the tantalizing aroma coming from TE. Eventually we just had to have us some ribs & chicken. Unfortunately the actual food was blah at best. This coming winter will find us eating off property when we want to dine out. Now, Disney does have some of the best JUNK FOOD. Mmmm I'm dreaming of Mickey bars, hot pretzels and banana splits from DTD.

Hey-free parking and bringing in coolers-we're happy with that. We have the after 2p annual passes and it works out great for us. We only use the passes in the summer and september but for $60 for an adult and $48 for a child it's so affordable. I wish the Fort had a real counter service place like all the other resorts. We camp not to save money ( we could have stayed at the value resorts this trip for $100 less. Go figure) We camp because we like to and when on vacation I don't ask the wife to cook after all she wants a vacation to. So we usually go to one of the other resorts and eat.

We usually skip TE and bike over to WL. I love the fresh made salads in RF.

We used to eat at TE a lot in the past. It just seems that the prices have gotten way too high for what you get. I even skipped it while on free dining. Whispering Canyon is much better to me.

I remember eating at TE as a kid. It seemed like they had much more variety back then. Dad and I would get up early nearly every morning and eat breakfast there. I still do one breakfast there each trip for old time's sake.

At a local pool we are members of, prices for food and snacks had gotten to be outrageous so people were bringing in big coolers with food and drinks. The "powers that be" at the pool soon decided no more coolers! I hope Disney doesn't do that. You are allowed to bring in a container of water, but it has to be "shown" as you check in to make sure it is water.

We used to have season passes for Great Escape, a Six Flags Park in the Adirondacks. We mostly had them because we enjoyed the water park..Splash Water Kingdom. We too used to bring our cooler. We would spend the entire day. We usually brought our breakfast..rolls/bagels that sort of thing, and sandwhiches for lunch. However, we would purchase drinks and snacks through out the day. THEN..they stopped letting folks in with coolers. Sited it as a security issue. BS...they just want you spending more money on food in the parks. We didn't have season passes after that, and in fact, we didn't even go again. Just wasn't worth the price of admission for us, since we aren't particulary "ride people" as much as we enjoyed the water park.

We went several years without getting passes to Dollywood and Splash Country mainly because we were going to WDW and it was eating all of our "vacation" and "fun" money which the whole family was okay with. We did get passes this year because A)-DH works in Sevierville and he can get in free. Actually the whole family can get in free, but DH has to be with us. Well, hello, he works most of the time so that limited our time to zilch. However, becuase he works in one of the shows in the area, we got an outrageous deal on AP! If I remember correctly, we paid less than $60 for the kids and me. We bring a cooler in our van and trek out to the parking lot come lunch time. I brought $10 both times we went for a sweet snack for us to share. Every one was happy and I even brought change back!
Oh yeah I forgot about point B)-Because we are camping this year at WDW, we are saving a ton of money so that freed up some "vacation" and "fun" money allowing us to get the passes to begin with.

That is disappointing about TE. I was going to eat there when we went, but I believe we will opt to drive into town instead. For that amount of money and type of food, surely we can find better for less.

We live on a budget. For us, it is a major splurge to spend that kind of money on a single meal. I spend less than that for steaks and ribs at TGIF.

I guess I wouldn't mind it if I was going to use the dining plan, but I can not justify paying adult price for my 11 yo daughter when she will NOT eat an adult portion nor from the adult menu.

I'm glad I knew about the price increase BEFORE I brought my family to TE. I'm glad I've given us a lot of non-park time. Now I will actually go to Joe's Crabshack and enjoy a seafood night instead of writing it off of my list simply because Fulton's is way too expensive to feed five of us.

Haven't eaten a TE, well maybe technically we have, but they stopped take out buffet a couple years ago. Never figured that one out. We occasionally get a pizza and salad to go, but that's about it. Mostly we either eat in a park before coming back to the Fort or cook out or in in our motorhome. Grill a steak or burger, nuke a few potatoes... We don't go to WDW to dine, but we do eat to survive while we're there...:cool1:

I'd say it's the "Value" I get versus what I "Pay".

I don't mind paying $50-60 for Hoop Dee Doo Review every other trip or two because you get food, beer, entertainment, tax, tip, and dessert. But for what TE costs versus what I get, I don't perceive it as worth the cost. As a camper, I can easily eat a meal (and a damn good one!) at the trailer instead. I know they are catering to more people than just us FW folks at TE but then again, it's sorta "out of the way" and not on the main stream for WDW visitors. So I think the WL/FW mgt team should be attentive to the opinions of their campers particularly.

And my meals at the camper are delicious and damn cheap! Plus, styroforam plates and plastic k/f/s make clean up a breeze. And as FWguy would say (and Al and ad nauseum), there's a cooler full of "adult beverage" outside the front door.... ;) of the camper, that is. Why head over to TE or Crocket's Tavern when I can BYOB and sit on the porch of Pioneer Hall/TE?

Bama ED

What i like about Trails End is the convenience. After a morning or late afternoon in the parks, you come off the boat and you smell the good food and it used to be nice to walk up and get a seat in there. sooooo convenient when you don't feel like going back and cooking. That's a little pricey now for that convenience. I will probably cave to the a/c and sweet tea at least once though. i still want to know what holiday is in june though.:confused3

COME ON....what holiday:confused3 Flag Day....geezzzz :lmao:

Well, I have been a big supporter of TE, BUT, the price has gone from $8.99 for breakfast to an unbelievable $13.99! That's criminal. They have taken food away as well. There is much less selection of fruit, the hash is gone and the omelet of the day is history. Shame on Disney. I'll boycott TE on my next trip in a few months.

I noticed the price jumped shortly after Allears wrote TE was the best kept secret at WDW. Hmmm, well not any more.

Alternatives will be
Good home cooked meal at the popup or
A a pleasant boat ride over to WL and breakfast or a nice bike ride over to WL for breakfast. Hey, whats wrong with this picture, campers heading over to a luxury resort for breakfast because the value resort is too expensive. :scared1: Go figure.

Did you say sweet tea? They have sweet tea? The only negative thing I could say about WDW from my previous trips was that I went days w/o sweet tea? Every restaurant I went to said, "there is no sweet tea on property." I am from the south and I have to have my sweet tea! That was like #1 on my list of pros for camping...I can make my sweet tea in the camper. Well I'll be!!

They do have 'Sweet Tea' and they serve it in Mason Jars! Believe me, it is delicious if you like sweet tea!

Sweet tea in mason jars. That's just how we drink it at our house. We like it sweeeet too! In fact, we prefer a little tea with our sugar to be honest with you. :)

Oh their sweet tea is second to none, good and cold and especially sweet! If Ken makes it, it's the best! When you're almost ready to leave, ask for a refill to go!

Well, I had nixed my plans to eat there because of all the "bad press". I may reconsider. Reckon why other restaurants on the grounds don't serve sweet tea?

You know, TE was a fun place to eat because it was at the Fort, and we could ride our bikes there, and have the Disney magic.

As my husband is fond of saying, Mickey Mouse is starting to turn into a rat. 24.99 for my 12 year old? When I could go to Ohanas for nearly the same price (or has that gone up, too?)

Plus, they've gotten rid of take out?

Can someone give me directions to Golden Corral? Gatordad? Is it on International Dr.?

My directions say the Golden Corral is at 8707 Vineland Ave. I'm coming from ASMo and it says take W Buena Vista Dr (Hotel Plaza Blvd) turn Right on FL-535 then left on Vineland. It says 15 min. from ASMo and 7 1/2 miles. I'm pretty sure you can get to 535 from FW also, just my kids are staying at movies and we are picking them up before we head to Golden Corral for breakfast and then going to outlet mall down the road to check out the Disney Outlet.

There is a Golden Corral on Hwy-192 (Irlo Bronson Hwy) across the street from Celebration Fl. It's closer to the Magic Kingdom exit on I-4. Google Golden Corral, Kissimmee Fl. it has directions.
