View Full Version : Ya know what we should do?

Once a week we should set a time where we all log on to one of those video conferencing/streaming sites (not the porn ones.....the other ones) and a volunteer from the GLBT DIS boards can go on camera while we all chat live. That might be kind of fun. ::yes::
Or not. :confused3

I was thinking we could use a site like UStream to do this. I believe it allows one person to be on camera while also providing a text-based chat room. If anyone else has any suggestions on the site we should use feel free to let us know. (I've never done this before, so I'm a newbie too.) Maybe we could start doing this in a week or two.

As of now, I think it's fairly safe to say a fairly large handful of people on the board is willing to be on camera/a star for a while. Cool. Now I guess the next votes we should take as far as the first "online meet" is concerned would be.......

Did we figure out what site we're using? Here's a question...aren't there sites where we can set up a room where we all can be on camera? That would probably be more interesting than just staring at 1 person on cam. :surfweb:

For me, weekends are best, since I work 2 jobs. If not the weekend, then at night. And I probably won't be able to partake in it until I get back from my Gay Days trip.

I'm looking into multiple-user video conferencing/chat, but have yet to find one that is free. I'm not sure if Skype allows multiple users or not......so if anyone knows, please let me know. I just signed up for a UStream.tv account and it seems really simple to use, but as far as I know it only allows one person on camera at a time while the rest of the people are in a "chat room" which the person on camera can see simultaneously and respond to. (Lou Mongello uses UStream, which is how I found it.)

UPDATE

Okay.......here's a suggestion: I just found a site called MeBeam. Before you go looking for it, DO NOT start searching for random rooms or else you might see some stuff you don't wanna see. What would happen is one person gives the room they want to create a specific name (something like "GBLT DISboard Mania" would work) and then the name of the room could be posted here on the DIS so that as soon as you log on you just type or copy/paste the name so you're taken right to the room.

The Good
--It allows multiple people to either be on camera in a single room chat.
--You don't have to sign up for an account.
--It basically sets up your web cam and microphone automatically after you allow it access to them.
--There's no software to download.

The Bad
--Since there can be more than 8 people on camera at one time in the room, the image quality isn't the greatest.
--I read that if you want to just talk via a microphone, you can, but no one will know who you are unless you create a personal avatar for yourself.

I dunno.......it might work.....it might not. :confused3 Maybe this is too complicated to actually go through with. Anyhoo, I need to get some sleep.

Well.....after a ton of research and question-asking, I'm 99% convinced my chest pain is a partially-collapsed lung. It can be caused by numerous things, but I think the thing that did it for me was sleeping for too long on one side. (I slept for around 10-11 hours one day last week on my right side, and if I remember correctly the first time I recall having the pain was immediately after I woke up.) Although I'm no doctor, I read it can be remedied by doing lots of deep-breathing exercises. I hope it works. I'm still a bit short of breath, but the pain went from a really sharp stabbing pain to more of a very dull annoyance when I inhale.

As for my eye, I'm still in the dark about it. (Sorry.....bad joke.) What I do know is that I think it's nothing too serious because my eyelid won't open all the way, kind of like it's an infection or something. I don't think it's pink eye (ewwww :scared:) because it's not itchy or red.

Jeez....I'm a complete mess. Both health-wise, financially, emotionally....... :guilty: I wanna thank you guys for being so nice.
