What did you do on Grand Cayman?

What did you do on Grand Cayman? Did anyone rent a car and tour on their own?

snorkeling and stingray city as well as the atlantis submarine. All were excellent.

Capt Marvin's in the morning. Then we returned to the ship for lunch and spent the afternoon at 7 mile beach. It was a great day, the best of the cruise!

The semi-sub (LOTS of fish), and then the Island Tour/Snorkeling With Stingrays. We loved it! The stingray snorkeling is a must-do experience. It is unbelieveable how tame they are. The island tour was nice too...it's fun to send a postcard from "Hell," and definitely buy some of the rum cake at the turtle farm if you are ever there. But the stingrays were definitely a major highlight.

Took a taxi to 7 mile beach across from the Holiday Inn. Plenty of lounge chairs, bathroom, cafe and bar service on beach. Shopped in town a bit after beach.

Is a 6 year old too young for the Stingray excursion?

There were some younger children on our boat, although I don't know their exact age. The water is only waist-deep on an adult, and the stingrays are very gentle, so I think a 6-year-old would be fine as long as he is used to water. One little boy on the trip was absolutely scared to death to go in, despite coaxing from his parents and the guide. Finally they got him in, but he was definitely NOT happy! On the way home, the parents asked, "Aren't you glad now that you went in?" and his answer was a resounding, "NO!" But we did see a lot of other children who seemed to be having a great time.

At the suggestion of this board, we booked Capt. Marvin's on our own. I HIGHLY recommend it! It is a small group of about 20. I had e-mailed them back in April, since I had a leary 7 year old. They reassured me that she could stand in the water, and if she did not want to get off the boat, a guide would bring a stringray over to her. Well, she did get in the water, but guides did take the rays over to the boat for those timid people. It was one of the BEST things we did in Grand Caymen.

We shopped a little after that. The Tortuga Rum cakes are wonderful. I suggest you sample a piece.

tchrmom - thanks for the info - what time was your reservation at Capt Marvins and did you have a hard time getting a tender since you did not book through DCL?

We had the 10:00 Captain Marvin's tour. They asked us to be at the office at 9:15. Since we arrive early that day, there was NO trouble for us getting off, and catching a tender. In fact, we basically walked right on our tender.
I would NOT book anything before 10, since Disney does give priority, I think, to excursions booked through them.
