Hi Everybody! Welcome to Challenge# 57!! :cool1:

I had several ideas for a challenge, and it was hard to settle on just one, but here it is: Your Disney Tradition.

Your challenge this week is to scrap about the thing you just HAVE TO DO at Disney every time you go....
Whether it's the ride you go on first each time.....or a character you have to see first-thing.....
or a particular snack you have to have before you go home (Dole Whip anyone?)........
or even a certain "photo op" you HAVE to get each visit.......Scrap it! I want to see it!

If you've only been to Disney once, then scrap about what you were looking forward to the most and why it was so important....

RULES....obviously the LO must be Disney-related.....AND:

1. You must use an odd number of photos
2. You can-NOT mat, outline or frame your pictures in any way (insert my evil laugh here: MWAHAHAHAHAHA!)
3. Use at least 3 papers, 1 of which must have a pattern on it
4. Use a 'clear' element somewhere on your page
5. There must be at least 1 Mickey head somewhere on the layout
6. Use at least 5 other elements (the clear element and the Mickey head do NOT count!)
7. Use 2 different alphas for your title
8. Don't forget Journaling!! Journal about WHY this is your tradition.....when it started, why it's important to you, etc, etc, etc.....

You have until 11:59PM (CDT since that's where I'm at!) on Tuesday 5/19 to post your layout in this thread to be eligible for the prize!:thumbsup2

I'll be choosing 2 winners with the help of my DD who will receive $5.50 Gift Cards to the Britt-ish Designs store at Scrap Matters (a big BIG thank you to Britt for donating that, btw! Thanks again, Britt!)......so have fun scrapping those Disney Traditions!!!

I can't wait to see what everybody comes up with.....:surfweb:....and to start off.....here's one of my "must-do" things for each trip......trying to pull the Sword from the Stone at the Magic Kingdom:

We've only done 2 trips to Disney since we've been married. Once without the girls and once with them. So we didn't really have any traditions. So, I'm hoping this will count.

The journaling basically says that for our 1st trip the Hall of Presidents was temporarily closed for renovations. My husband was so disappointed because he is a huge History buff. Fast forward to 2008, and yet again, The Hall of President's is temporarily closed for renovations. We took some photos near the building at the eating area, just to say we'd actually been there!

So, even though it's not a good tradition, it does seem to be becoming our tradition!

:lmao: that's hilarious!! The same thing happened to a friend of mine....the first 3 times he went to Disney World, the Swiss Family Treehouse was closed...FINALLY on the 4th trip he got to go up in it, and after all that anticipation, it was a total letdown!!! I still laugh at it though...:rotfl2:

Great memory and you scrapped it well! Thanks for playing!!:goodvibes

2. You can-NOT mat, outline or frame your pictures in any way (insert my evil laugh here: MWAHAHAHAHAHA!) :faint:

You are SOOOOooooo mean!

Just kidding! That'll just make it all the easier. One less decision to make!

The only problem is that I don't have any pics of our tradition! We always get fritters and a Mint Julep in New Orleans Square, but I've never taken pics of it. Maybe we're so ready for a snack by then that I don't even think about it.

I'll come up with something...

Wow I don't think we have any traditions... other then keep going back! LOL I haven't done a challenge in awhile... wow those weeks seem to slip by quickly!! I will try to think of something.

Soarin is our favorite ride & we always go straight there after arriving at Epcot. :) I kept putting off scrapping it because I want the LO to be as perfect as the ride (I'm sure you know what I mean!) This was finally the push to scrap it from our first trip (when it became a tradition. :))

I LOVE the Soarin' layout......so bright and cheery! Great job!! You must've been fast with the camera to get those pictures, 'cuz when we went in, they made us get in and get buckled in a hurry!

Great layout, thanks for playing!!

odd number of photos, at least 3 papers, used pattern, 5+ elements and a clear element (cloud) and a mickey :) and journaling and our photo tradition and two alphas in the title! PHEW!

credits: most of the kit I used is from the Shabby Princess freebie and I used one element from Brittish and one from a 4th of July kit from Donie, I believe? And I made the clear because I didn't have one! LOL

That was a lot of requirements..but I made it and had one element extra!
When I looked back at our two trips, the face painting was one thing that we did both times and I know we will continue to do as long as they want to! The two photos at the top are from our first trip. I toned the color down and used the "remember" word circles to distinguish those from the new trip photos.

Oh, this was indeed a challenge! And the only 'tradition' I have left to scrap from our last May trip is the same as ngneer98- so I have to be a copycat with the subject......

mumloveseeyore- We always eat a meal at Le Cellier....it's our favorite restaurant! YUM! love the mickey sparkles!
sleepingbean- It took me FOREVER to find the Mickey...he was right there in front of me....how clever!! love all the papers, and Crystal Palace is a great tradition to have!!
terri24601- We do face-painting on each trip too....at AK...but our kids really look forward to it. Great picture placement and I love the striped paper to match DS's shirt! cute!
susan0326- YAY! LOVE the photo-op tradition....I can't believe the same set-up has been there that long, but what a great thing to do on each trip. It's so neat to see how your kids have changed over the years! That's a great memory. I gotta go snag that add-on...I love that Mickey balloon!!
Tinker326- sneaky sneaky with the patterned paper!! :P And I like how you improvised with the stitches since you couldn't mat the pics (yes, I'm so mean! LOL!)

I think that catches me up.....Great job everybody and thanks so much for playing....I'm having so much fun watching these layouts get posted!! :D

Here is the journaling:
Every trip to Disneyland we have a few traditional things. The first (shown) is to meet up with Mommom and Aunt Shari. We don’t usually get to meet up at Disneyland with them but it was Shari’s birthday and she wanted to join in on the magic this time. Usually we meet at a restraunt and have dinner and chat. Our second tradition is that we each choose one thing (yes, just one thing) we want to accomplish on the trip. We love to have a laid back and relaxing trip so we don’t want to do to much. This trip your must do was to ride a “big” ride, you loved them all, with your favorite being Hollywood Tower Hotel. Daddy’s must do was Big Thunder Railroad, mine was to watch Aladdin (again) and your sister had no idea what was going on this time!

Thanks for the great challenge. I SO SO SO SO wanted to frame the picture, but tried to use elements and the title to "frame" it!

susan0326- I love the idea of taking the kids photo at the same place every trip! I love how you dated the photos to show how they are getting older!

I may have to "borrow" that idea! What a great way to show how the kids are changing, but also the area you're taking the photo at! Great idea! :)

Now to figure out from our photos of our trip, where we took photos of all the girls together!

What a great challenge! We had our first trip to Disney World in February so no real traditions and I couldn't possibly pick what I was looking forward to the most. But I figured that no trip would be complete without a photo with Mickey at the Judges Tent and we will definately do that again next time! Image is linked for credits:

A trip wouldn't be complete for me if I didn't see Figment in Journey Into Imagination. I have to admit that I loved the old version from 1983-1998 the best, but when he reappeared in the ride in 2002 I was excited to see him again. There's a rumor that DreamFinder will be back with Figment. Love that purple little guy! My acrylic element is the additional cloud on the left side.

No trip to Disney is complete without a meal at Rose & Crown. It is sometimes a quick lunch of Cottage Pie or an evening meal with IllumiNations as the grand finale. We’ve made awesome memories there; finding a new favorite dessert like Sticky Toffee Pudding or that a beer sample doesn’t mean small glasses. Wish we could stop in for dinner tonight.

boBQuincy- my kids LOVE the monorail almost as much as the rides! LOL! love how you turned a picture into an alpha....very cool!
Krisi616-What a great picture! Such a nice, clean layout, very nice!
Janis- Uhm, I need to make that MY tradition too!! YUM! Very bright and festive LO...love all the little Mexixan elements!
JuneBugFL-love that patterned paper that looks like rain....cool! That's always a good photo op spot!!
Yzerbear-OMG, that's the cutest little timeline ever!! You always do such great work with the B&W pics! I gotta get that kit with the elephants in it for my dumbo stuff!
albumlady-that's the perfect tradition to start! Great job highlighting the picture without framing it! :D
pooh46-love the bright colors on this! and Figment IS a blast....we actually just rode it for the first time on this last trip!
kathleena- love how you labeled each picture and all the purple accents! I've never been good at finding the hidden mickeys myself, but always appreciate people that point them out to me! great layout!
janette- great way to use the 2 alphas, and what a neat tradition!

Jeez.......this is going to be way harder than I thought to pick a winner......I might have to result to random-ness....you guys have all done a great job, even with all my crazy rules!!

Stay tuned for the winners!!

WOW , Ladies….all I can say is just WOW! I am just floored with how many of you entered….and then to see all these great layouts with all these different and fun and off-the-wall traditions……it’s been so much fun for me to watch!!!
The one layout that stood out to me and is the first winner is Susan326’s layout of her kids over the years……the layout itself is simple because the pictures are the focal point and I just LOVE that she’s taken all these pictures of her kids….I wish I’d done something like that! So congrats to Susan!
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/ngneer98/OurPhotoSpot.jpg

And for the 2nd GC to Britt’s store….I just couldn’t decide! There were several that I really liked and wanted to win…...I chickened out and DD was no help either, so I went with random.org…….I put everybody in the reverse order that they posted (because I was typing from the last entry to the 1st entry!) and I got #8....

And with my backwards numbering scheme, #8 is Krisi616, and here’s her layout:
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm231/ngneer98/Disney-0109.jpg
Congrats Krisi and Susan!! I’ll have Britt PM you your GC codes ASAP! And thanks so much for playing everybody….I know the prize was a BIG incentive, but thanks for putting up with all my goofy rules anyways!!!

Aww, thank you so much! Thanks for hosting such a fun challenge that helped me get another page done for my book. Without these challenges, I wouldn't have at least 57 pages done in the past year!

Thank you Britt for the GC! I will probably using it to get the Vegas kit which is awesome!

It was really just random luck that started our tradition. Isn't that how most traditions begin? You do something and then you want to do it again ... and again. Before long, the tradition has a life of its own! We just happened upon those crates near the pond in 2001 and thought it would be cool to sit the children up there. Little did we know that we'd be able to take the kids pictures there every time. We don't even have a familiy picture in front of the castle each year (missed the first year! LOL! How'd we do that?). If they ever remove those crates, I'll have a meltdown .... but I guess we'd just take a picture at whatever is on the location.

Hey, next time you are at Hollywood Studios, visit the crates and take a pic... for me. I'd love to see your picture taken there! Make sure you read anything written on the crates They change the shipment information on them from time to time with names of different stars, directors, etc.

Thanks again and congrats to Kris! Her layout and all of the layouts were so wonderful to look at but more than that they were priceless to read! This is such a talented group of people!

Thanks so much! So excited to win! I loved the challenge, that is the point to have rules that would be hard to follow and stretch you out of your comfort zone.

I love the idea of pictures in the same spot - will have to look and see if I got any of the two of them when Rachel was a baby and repeat it in June when we go again. We do always take a family photo - but never in the same place.
