My fiance is not a big dessert person. Actually never a dessert person. We are on the DDP instead of a dessert would he be able to get a side? (ex. extra side of fries instead of carrot cake)

you may be better off asking this at the DDP board. But my understanding is that you can't do this for adults. For kids I have found you can pretty much "pick two" of the appys and desserts to go with their meal (ie fruit and a cookie, fries and ice cream). But the adults seem to be a lot stricter.

you can ask but the usual answer will be no at table service - the standard rule is no substitution of dessert for anything else. You don't have to take dessert if you'd prefer not to eat them. One thing people have reported more success with is asking to have a milkshake or smoothie instead of dessert, if he'd like that option.

Some people have reported having some success getting fruit cups for their dessert at counter service.
