HI everyone! I'm starting a PJ hoping it will help me to collect my thoughts on planning my wedding in 7 months! We decided to get married at Disney when my DF's family gathers for a pre-holiday getaway.
I'm not doing a Planning Session, I'm planning entirely by phone and email! I want a slight Christmas theme and I'm leaning on Red, Ivory and Gold (just for accent) as my color scheme.
Having said that I am having trouble deciding on a location to host my brunch reception! The choice that most seem to go with is the Attic but I'm afraid it will completely clash with my color scheme. Should I not worry about that?
I should also mention that I haven't booked yet! That will happen any day, keep your fingers crossed that SBP is still available on that day and time!
Updated list, I changed my mind several times, ultimately choosing to NOT have a DFTW:
Ceremony Time: 4:30pm
Location: Fulton's Crab House
Coordinator: Me!
Floral: Blossoms Orlando
Photographer: Randy Chapman
Hair and Makeup: Beaute Speciale
Violinist: Jennie Rudberg
Caricature Artist: Glenn Ferguson
Reception Time: 5:00pm
Location: Fulton's Crab House
Transportation: Limo Orlando
Cake: Annette's Cakes

Congrats! Personally, I love the attic, and think you could make just about any color scheme work in there. Let us know what you decide!

thanks ladies!
I keep changing my mind on the brunch location. I'm not sure I want to have to meet a $2500 minimum for the Attic. I'm now leaning towards a small room at the Boardwalk instead since I hear they have a $685 min. Has anyone ever seen this done for a small party of around 25? I was also looking at Narcoosee's....any other ideas??

Just wanted to say welcome :goodvibes and how exciting that you are only 7 months out:banana:! I think your colors sound lovely... unfortunately I know nothing about the attic or really any of the other reception locations since I am an Escape bride:confused3 How many guests are you having? That may help narrow things down. Can't wait to hear more of your plans!

I'm an escape bride too! I just want to provide my guests with a relatively nice, private meal after our ceremony.
Looks like the St. James room is the key, only $675 minimum and no rental fee1 :cool1:

What about Citricos? F&B minimum is only $650
missy0107

That's on my list but I like the idea of a private room, my party will be 25 so Citrico's private room is out!

My date and time is available! So it's official, this December 4th at 10am I am getting married at SeaBreeze Point!
I booked great airfare this morning. DF's parents live in Cape Coral so we will fly there soon after Thanksgiving and spend a couple of days. We leave Orlando on 12/7.
A couple of more decisions have been made. I think I want to give out Christmas ornaments as favors so I'm scouting eBay for good deals. And I think we are shying away from having attendants at all but may still have a flower girl.
Next up is finding rooms and going dress shopping.

Booked the hotel! Old Key West from 12/1-12/7...waitlisted the last night! Also booked for my mom and brother,.
I decided to book Randy Chapman for photography, I want at least 4 hours worth of coverage and the DVD and it works out to be about the same out-of-pocket. It would be nice of Disney to offer substitutions on things like that.
I got an invitation sample but the paper is too small for my printer. I will either have to pick a larger invitation or have it printed for me.
I'm also thinking now, since we aren't going to have attendants, just too flower girls that I might just do every thing in white. White dresses, white flowers, white accessories, etc.

I also started an "OMG I can't afford everything I want, I can't believe how fast this all adds up!" freak-out. Does everyone have one of these and how did you cope with it?!? And did you end up cutting anything? Right now I don't know how I'm going to have a MK photo shoot and I was really looking forward to that.

Lol that's how we went with an Escape wedding. We could afford the Wishes but things would be tight. WIth the Escape we get everything we REALLY want but at a lower price. Df and I are going to sit down with the planning pages from Carrie's book and right EVERYTHING down. That way I know how to budget and have a schedule of what is due every month, rather than just buy things willy nilly (lol you like that?)

There has been at least 2 difficult moments for me where I almost convinced myself to move it to a Wishes, but we're doing Disney to NOT have a big wedding and spend an insane amount of money!

I got my letter of agreement! I asked for it to be revised with the "extra people clause" and got it back very quickly, I can have up to 25. YAY! Also asked about losing the Disney photographer and he said if I hire one the Disney photog will come too! He mentioned they changed it within the last week, they tested it with 2 photographers last week and it worked so no more "use it only or lose it!"
Also got my engagement ring back sized today!

I got my wedding band yesterday! I had to take me E-ring back because the metal cracked when they sized it so they are fixing it up for me. (that's what happens when you got from a size 7 to a 4.5 and they don't heat the gold properly!) I didn't purchase it as a set when I picked out the engagement ring with DF, and I'm glad I didn't! The sales-girl was awesome, she showed me a few bands and none of them went well with the ring, it's a bridge over water setting and the row of diamonds under the main setting is spaced just so and I wanted to spacing to match. We hemmed and hawed for a minute and she got a gleam in her eye and pulled out a black box from under a counter a lo and behold, there was an exact match to my ring! And it was on clearance 50% off! SCORE!
In other news my deposit was due to Disney today! DF didn't send it! Gaahh!!

We've pretty much decided on Raglan Road! The menus are really reasonably priced and my family loves Ireland, it totally works! But now I want to have it as a dinner....now I'm wondering if they dress I purchased is too casual for an evening wedding. What do you think?

I think your dress is gorgeous and think it will be just fine for an evening wedding... I tend to make up the rules as I go with these things though but I figure it's your wedding so you make the rules! If you love the dress that's all that matters!

Your dress is gorgeous! I love the ebay dresses. I wish I had thought of that before buying a dress. Very nice and I think it is plenty dressy for an evening affair. It's not going to be at the Ritz! BTW You're getting married the day before my birthday! :goodvibes

05-31-2009, 09:21 PM
Thanks ladies! I brought the dress over to my moms for a proper trying-on and it's wonderful and beautiful and perfect....I just gotta lose 10 lbs!
I finished our Save the Dates today after fighting with the printer for hours. I will post a photo tomorrow. I also printed address labels! I found a really cute graphic that I am using as a sort of logo for our wedding. DF loves it and approves of the final result.
We did a trip to Michaels to see what their wedding section looked like. I haven't been in there for a long time but it hadn't changed. Nothing caught my eye for anything that I'd like to use for my wedding. I did go into the clearance section of course and managed to find an ivory invitation set that I decided will work since the price was right, $20 for 50 w/RSVP! So far the budget is doing great!
I've been thinking a bit about centerpieces. I think I will pick up a few small pointsettias at Walmart before heading to Disney. I'm lucky we are spending a few days in Ft. Myers with DF's parents before the wedding. I'm also going to pick up all the stuff for the welcome bags then.
I think pointsettias are an easy way to make the space at Raglan Road pretty and Christmasy and keeping it well under $50. I'll stop at a crafty place and get something sparkly to stick in them. I'd like a few Mickey crystals like the ones they stick in bouquets but I haven't seen them online in my searches. Does anyone know if these are available for sale somewhere?

I love checking small things off my list. I booked dress steaming for me and my flower girls.
Also finalized changing ceremony times from 10:30 to 2:30 and confirmed the time change with Randy. I made the change on the contract, signed it and put a stamp on it.
I also have an email over to Beaute Speciale to see if they are available and sent a nice long list of questions and a sample menu over to Raglan Road.
I hate waiting for people to get back to me! :P

Can't wait to read more!

06-17-2009, 10:39 AM
The favors are a bust! Disney ran out of them, they had 2 left, not 20 so I'm back to the drawing board on that.
Raglan Road is easy to work with and very reasonable! I would suggest calling them to get more info. The girl I spoke with is Wendy and she has gone above and beyond to answer all my questions. Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to relocate as their room with no minimum is a smidge too small for my party and the next biggest room has a minimum that I can't make work for my budget. I'm looking at the Swan restaurants and Portabello at DTD.
In an overall recap of planning lately: Looks like I am going to cancel my DFTW and move everything to the Swan. I think I will save a couple thousand dollars overall and that means I can use that money for a nicer Welcome Party on Thursday night.
The guest list is growing and that's part of the reason for my location change. A handful of family members decided they can afford to come and I can't imagine telling them they can't just because Disney has a 25 person minimum for my budget. I am still waiting for my package quote for the Swan from JustMarry! so I haven't made any final decisions! It stinks that I already made my deposit with DFTW! But I think that might still work out in the end as well.

So the initial counts are in, looks like we'll save almost $3k by having the wedding at the swan! we are arranging everything through JustMarry and so far so good! And I get everything I want: an outside ceremony, violinist, officiant, flowers, sit-down non-restaurant reception, cake and open bar! talk about customizing a package! I have a few more unanswered questions but I really like what I'm hearing so far.
I'm just waiting to hear from Disney on their alternative plan on my budget but I'm sure they will want to use it all up. I like the idea of saving some so we can do an Illuminations DP!

Would you mind sharing around how much this will cost? Ceremony and reception? If you don't feel comfortable announcing the number, just a ballpark range? Under 5K?
It sounds wonderful!! :goodvibes Could you describe the reception package in more detail?
Sorry for all the questions! We are currently saving up for our Swan wedding & I'm trying to get an idea about budget. We want similar to what you described, but a harpist instead of a violinist and possibly a brunch reception.

Which is still about $2k more than what I really wanted to spend! I'm exploring other reception options (bluezoo, Portabello), though the price is still good and I based it on a few more people than I expect to have.
Thank you so much for sharing that!!:worship:
Wow, dinner reception is actually less money than I thought. We are looking into a brunch in hopes that it might be cheaper.
Also, not sure if you are interested, but I've read about another bride doing a sillouette artist instead of a caricature artist (like the sillouettes they do on Main St in MK!). I think it's cheaper and they come out really cool!

I can't recall right now where I saw their reception menus with prices, I had to ask for them to be sent to me. I can send you the menus I was sent, pm me your email addy!
Once I contacted JustMarry, Susan spoke with the folks at the Swan and created a package to fit my budget...and they did a fantastic job! I had contacted them at first as well, but when I started to talk about a ceremony being held they referred me to JustMarry.
I haven't seen any photos of the rooms but the Westin sit has a good diagram with capacities. https://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/meetings/stacked_map.html?propertyID=1018&buildingKey=1001089583
Unfortunately, the person handling my food and beverage quote at the Swan went on vacation for a week before contacting me so I haven't seen a proper BEO yet and Fulton's got that to me within a day, mostly within budget.

So plans are coming together! I love it! Here's a recap of my final(ish) plans, I also update my first post with vendors and more details:
Thursday night we will host a no-pressure welcome party at our Old Key West Suite. We plan on getting a couple of pizzas, a big tray of salad, some beer and soda, and maybe some pasta. I figure we'll save a ton plus we get an excuse to upgrade our room from the studio we had to a one bedroom!
3:30 ceremony on the Beach Terrace at the Swan and Dolphin. DF and I are thinking of spending the morning together and getting ready in our Hospitality Suite together, I know totally against the norm, but soooo like us! My hair and make-up is scheduled for 12-1:30, dress will be steamed at 11. (I'm trying to figure out if I can do this myself an save the $$!) Flowers should meet us at the Swan.
Randy is set to start at 2:30 and I would love some pictures at the Boardwalk so I am thinking about meeting him there. I don't know how tight this timeline is considering the ceremony is supposed to start at 3:30. Maybe we need him to start earlier?
I'm renting a large van with a driver for 4 hours to get people to the S/D and then over to Downtown Disney for the reception. The reception is set to start at 5:30 with cocktails and appetizers, then an hour for dinner, then an hour of cocktails and cake. We'll have a caricature artist, this along with a Selma's Cookie will be our only favors. The cake will be made and delivered by Publix!
After the reception we MIGHT stay in DTD for a bit. We'll have everyone take regular Disney buses back to their resorts.

Here's a montage I submitted to my planner. The bouquet we cam up with is described: a mix of Black Magic, red, and white roses (18-24 total) , Green Hydrangea, Bluperum, Hypericum Berries, Silver Dollar Seeded Eucalyptus, Lycopodium and magnolia leaves. Based off of 3 of the 4 bouquets pictured (all but the one with the grass around it.)
Now that I am probably getting the cake from Publix I have to wait awhile to give them the photos. Their 3 tier cakes are about $230 with filling and delivery. Less than half of the price of a 2-tier Disney cake!

I've been very happy about the prospect of a reception at Fulton's but the costs kept adding up (they charge extra for a starch, etc.), I think that their room is beautiful and the location is good because of transportation options (free ones!).
The Swan had excellent options for my budget but I really was opposed to the idea of having my wedding in a ballroom, plus they have a convention in that weekend and all of their ballrooms with outside access are already reserved then.
They have an interesting option in the Dolphin, the old Sum Chow's restaurant is available to private parties, it's a large room with a strange color scheme and didn't really work for my idea of my reception.
I've bounced back and forth on the ceremony. I didn't like the Swan fountain area for a wedding and previously mentioned convention has the Crescent Terrace booked already. They gave me another option which was a nice terrace on the water but it just wasn't doing it for me. Plus they took forever to confirm the space.
So after some hemming and hawing, I decided on a whim ask Fulton's if I could have the ceremony on their deck. She replied rather swiftly that they would charge $425 to set up the third deck exterior for a ceremony! I thought that was incredibly reasonable!
The only downside I am seeing is that it doesn't add any time on to the event, 3 hours is their standard event time and they add $300 service for every additional hour. I would save approximately $1k with this option even with adding in the extra hour fee...

Wow! I had no idea Fulton's could do a ceremony! And I thought I had researched the heck out of all options! LOL
Do you have any photos of the deck? That would be awesome to see! :thumbsup2
Anyways, I'm loving all of your ideas! Can't wait to read more!

I was really looking for any opportunity to save money. I really liked working with Just Marry, but if I put in a little personal effort, I can save a ton of $$. Luckily I do have the time and the will to do it! I'll need to find my own florist and some kind of transportation for a large group of people. I have a close family friend who is awesome at party planning who will hopefully help out a ton with coordination on the day of.
I have have photos from on the outside deck, but the exterior photos sort of show the size. This is where my pre-reception will be if the weather is good as well. The first photo shows the deck set-up for a standing reception. The second picture is an exterior shot for reference, I'm not sure if this the front or back of the boat...

I didn't either! Then I was reading through the information they sent me again and I noticed the word ceremony in their descriptions, so I asked!
I spoke with Rosie at the Disney Florist last night and she was awesome! She had a lot of great ideas and loved mine. They are a little pricey for what I want for my flower girls but very much the same as everyone else on the other pieces. She seemed kind of disappointed that all I want need is personal flowers.
I can't imagine buying centerpieces this will be my second wedding and I did the centerpieces myself the first time as well. This time I will need half as many and what I have chosen to do is much simpler!

I faxed the deposit and contract forms to Fulton's today!
Also sent of the deposit for the violinist and am waiting on the final contract for the caricature artist. Can't WAIT for this!
I've been reading about dyed crinoline and am now considering dyeing mine green or red! I'm nervous about the whole process, I don't know how the color will turn out or even what shade I want! :confused3

I think yours was where I got the idea to look around at other cake options, I love the one you chose! I think I'm going to go with the Let's Celebrate cake, but smaller than they picture it.
OMG, that was the cake I was planning on ordering until I saw the display! I never knew you could get married at Fulton's. That is going to be an awesome wedding. I can't wait to hear how things turn out!!!

I'm still considering ordering a Mad Hatter cake from the Boardwalk Bakery. DF really likes it and had his heart set on it, he hasn't thought strongly about most things so I think I'm willing to give him that for $250. :)

I received 4 floral quotes from 4 different Orlando area florists. Blossoms Orlando, Dream Designs, Kelly's Wedding Flowers and Disney Florist. I sent them all the same description of the bouquet I was interested in and one blew them all out of the water on price....my florist is... BLOSSOMS ORLANDO! She was so competitive on the price that I added an arrangement for my sweetheart table. For $401 +tax I get my bouquet, 2 bouts, 2 corsages, 2 pomanders, and a centerpiece.
This week I sent off the deposit for the violinist, Fulton's and the caricature artist! It's all happening!

I just ordered invites from Vistaprint! I found a great holiday design that is red with pointsettias and it goes perfectly with my theme! I also created a thank you card out of one of the matching folded invite styles. Below is the cost breakdown:
40 folded thank yous $8.99
40 8x4 flat invites $6.24
100 #9 personalized envelopes $1.49
100 A-2 personalized envelopes (tys) $1.49
Free rubber stamp with address.
shipping $8.79
Total: $30.74
I will probably order a smaller invite as a rehearsal/welcome party later on once I get the details finalized. I wanted to snap these up when it was 75% off! The envelopes would have been free but I paid for plain insides. Each of the cards also comes with free plain white envelopes.
I was going to print my own but I couldn't pass up on the prices. I have an invite kit that I was going to use that I will now return. I'm so relieved! I had such a hard time with my save the dates!
I'll try to post a photo!

Flower girls dresses ordered, I should have them next week! I will also post pics of all the loot I got the kids this weekend.
Wedding weight loss is progressing, down 6 lbs, I'd love to lose another 15 before I have to find a seamstress to finish my dress. Mostly needs hem and bust work, maybe other stuff depending on how much I lose. I'm not sure what foundation garments I need yet, I don't want to buy a slip I don't end up using but I think I would like a bit more fullness in my dress.
3 months, 27 days!

I just read through your PJ, and I love everything that you are planning. You have basically planned a wedding that I would love to have. I have been rolling with the idea about the S/D so far, and do like it, but I really like the idea about Fulton's and I have just emailed them to get more information! Now I don't know who I want to go with.... I am so bad at this, I just keep changing my mind soooo much! haha, guess that's ok, I am the bride after all. I just wanted to say thanks! I enjoy reading a non DFTW brides PJ since I know I wont be able to afford a DFTW myself....
Good Luck and Congrats!

Long time, no update!
SOO much has been going on. I traveled some for work, then work got really busy so my journal has been neglected.
Where to start...
I decided I didn't want to have to do my own centerpieces so I asked my wonder florist, Blossoms Orlando, for a quote and I liked it so she's doing them. Small potted pointsettias with some greenery.
I'm also debating on changing out the white roses in my bouquet for white anemones. Black centers? No other black in my wedding, should I stick with the roses?
I do not like the jewelry I ordered. I cannot decide what I want and it's frustrating me. I bought another necklace I don't like and considered ordering one from Etsy but don't want to waste the $$ again if I don't like it.
15 pounds lost so far and going strong.
Booked a private dessert party the night after the wedding for all the friends that are coming down. Can't WAIT for this! I will post the budget for it later.
Invites have been sent. Our count is at 24 adults + 4 kids so far. With another 12 maybes. They have 3 weeks to decide! This is a few people less than what I planned for, which means I'm under budget....well, not really, I'm reallocating funds to other areas. :)
I sent 2 boxes of wedding things with my in-laws on their annual trek down to sunny Florida, less I have to worry about later.
Appointment for dress alterations has been made, that will happen in the next 2 weeks.
More later!!

I'm not going to do a full trip report but I will give as much detail about the wedding day as I can. If you would like to see my Snapfish album with many more photos, just let me know and I will send you the link.
I came to terms very early in the day that we were not going to get married outside on Fulton's Third Deck overlooking Downtown Disney. I couldn't let the weather ruin my day. It's about the only thing you can't control.
Randy called at about 2:30 when I was about to put on my dress to say that he was early and he rushed to the room to take some photos and set up a first look for us, which was quite nice of him.
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/dress.jpghttp://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/look.jpg
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/20360_1310222480586_1381334079_8841.jpg
Once we took a few photos outside of our room, we waited the arrival of the limo (late limo!) and met Randy up by the lobby of Old Key West so we could take some photos with their Christmas decor. He also took some creative shots with this old bicycle.
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/bike.jpghttp://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/tree.jpg
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/20360_1310223560613_1381334079_8841.jpghttp://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/20360_1310223640615_1381334079_8841.jpg
We hightailed it over to Fulton's. I wanted to wait for Randy so he could get photos of us getting out of the Limo and stuff but it was just pouring so when we got to DtD we just RAN to Fulton's. Though the Limo driver was late, he did his best to get us as close to Fulton's without driving on the sidewalks as possible. It was still a far run in the rain in a wedding dress! I unfortunately do not have photos of the sprint in the dress!
Once we arrive on the third deck (after hearing little girls whisper to their mothers about princesses on the boat!) I saw this:
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/ceremonyroom.jpg
Fulton's did SUCH a nice job setting up the other room for our ceremony. I'm so happy they didn't re-book that room after they had a cancellation. They even provided the aisle runner. I hadn't thought of those things! They also placed my reception flowers around the room. The space was very warm and inviting.
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/ceremony.jpg
You can kind of tell what the weather was like in that photo. It was the crappiest day of the week.
After the short ceremony was over we went right into open bar and appetizers.
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/fish.jpg
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/passed.jpg
While my new husband and I and Randy wandered around Fulton's trying to find dry spots outside that were picture worthy. We found a few.

Randy thought it would be great to get some shots where we wanted to get married with an umbrella. Nice shots and we got a lot of them, but it was RAINING. A LOT!
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/rain.jpg
Fulton's had the Lounge setup with 4 tables for guests, sweetheart table in the middle across from the bar, cake table on an angle in one corner and the caricature artist in the opposite corner. I can't find any good pictures of everything but here is one with the two tables nearest the sweetheart table. The cake is to Randy's back in this photo.
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/room.jpg
Randy stole our Rings for a bit and here is what he did with them while they were gone.
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/rings2.jpghttp://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/rings3.jpg
Randy kept his eye on the weather and when the rain stopped he took us back out for some great night photos.

The caricature artist and cake were a huge hit.

http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx355/missyf107/20360_1310642251080_1381334079_8849.jpg
We started the ceremony a little late because of weather delays in some guests that were mobility challenged. Because of that the whole time line in my head was off. Tyler at Fulton's kept reminding me that we had a cake to cut and a champagne toast to take care of. They kept us right on track the whole time.
My only complaint about Fulton's is their propensity to serve extra food to the kids. They asked the 9 year old boy if he wanted more crab legs, of course he would say "Sure!" and of course they charged extra for them. His sister couldn't decide between the mac and cheese and something else, so they brought her both? I don't think that a restaurant who has made an agreement with people should offer things that weren't previously discussed with the person paying the bill. It didn't throw off my budget much, but that's not the point. :rolleyes1
Overall, my wedding was WONDERFUL. The best decision I made was going away from DFTW. I couldn't bring myself to tell people they couldn't come because I could only have 23 guests especially if they were able to make the trip. And I couldn't afford the Wishes minimums.
I would have loved to have more opportunity to take photos with Randy outside of Fulton's, particularly the giant Christmas tree right in the front and a few in other areas around Downtown Disney, but that just wasn't in the cards. I still got my photo in front of the Lego Lizard by proxy.
