Just found a local listing for a d90 with the kit lens for $900. She says it is too much camera for her and she bought a p&s to replace instead. She has had it a few months and had the receipt from Ritz camera. Too risky? Or foolish to pass up?

If she is local you could meet at a grocery store or something to that effect and find out if its for real.

See if she will let you take a few test shots with it on your own memory card. That way you should see if it is working properly and I believe you can find the shutter count in the EXIF.

I agree with ukatfan. Go and see the camera and take some pictures with your card. Then download the free version of OPANDA. It can tell you how many times the shutter has been activated. That will give you a truer idea of how new the camera is. Several thousand I would not be concerned about.

You can find great deals on Criagslist.

I would much rather do a local transaction over Craig's List than ebay these days. At least you can see the item in person and try it out before you buy it. I have heard so many reports of ebay scams lately that I don't even consider that an option anymore.

You might want to take down the serial number as well to make sure it is not hot. If it turned out to be and is tracked back to you, you would be out your money and your camera.
