First off, we hope all the cruisers and the team have an amazing trip! We're hoping for good weather while your on your voyage.

So anyway I thought we could designate a thread where we could talk about whatever and keep ourselves entertained while all the lucky ducks are cruising.

And of course, all cake vs. pie debates are welcomed!

I'll introduce myself, i'm Tom!

I'll join in as well.
I'm Jennifer.
Have fun to the podcast team and all the cruisers. We will all be anxiously awaiting pics, posts and blogs while you are away. ;)

Hi this is Lisa, I think we need a place so thanks! I hope the board doesn't stop without them lol. We are going to have to entertain eachother huh. :rotfl2:

Ok today, Mother's Day. Have to work at 12am, so slept in. Now I will shower and head out for a bit. Starbucks is calling!

Trying to plan a getaway with DH for June, not sure where, he won't fly :( YET!! That is the 1st thing I have to tackle...

Hi, I'm Lauren, and I wish I was on the podcast cruise!

Seriously though, I have a trip coming up soon so I shouldn't complain. I'm just anxious to go on vacation... I haven't been on one in almost 2 years.

As far as cake vs. pie...it's tough. It really would depend on the type. I tend to love all types of baked goods! :thumbsup2

I didn't get to go on the cruise since it is my fathers 65th b-day and we had to fly to Dallas to celebrate. We have a 2 year old son that came with us. My parents, who have been divorced for 30 years and still can't get along have been reenacting Kramer vs. Kramer all weekend. All my wife will say is "you owe me big time". I am afraid to see what that means.

Let me tell you, a drink by the pool as the boat leaves port sounds mighty good right now!

Hey Lisa, Michele, and Lauren!

Welcome. Hope we get to know eachother better the next few days!

And I have to agree with you Lauren, pie all the way!

Michele: Brownies are delish as well. :)

Lisa: Want to send some starbucks my way?

Hey everyone. Ashley checking in. I have actually never been on a cruise, and going on this one would have meant selling everything I owned. For the next one, I will be working on my Master's degree, so I doubt I will be able to go on that one either.

Oh well, I did graduate from college yesterday, so it's all good.

I really do hope everyone is having a great time.

Hello everyone! I'm Ann, sitting in my office on a sunny Iowa day! We were actually supposed to be at WDW last week, but my dad broke his hip in January and is still recovering...so the trip was cancelled. Still coming to the boards, though, and dreaming about another trip to WDW, hopefully next year.

I've decided not to plan a trip until we find a good offer (normally I just book when I want to go and pay full price). We've been to Disney three times now, so I feel experienced enough now to be able to go on shorter notice in the future.

Who here has an upcoming trip planned?

We do have a trip coming up in June, so I can't complain. We're going with two other families, and everyone is depending on me to plan, so I hope I don't disappoint!

Hello everyone! I'm sure we will have a great time together this week!

Ashley congratulations on your graduation!!!:cool1::banana:

Lisa go get that Starbuck's. I already did that this morning when I went to Target. Although, not only did I buy myself Starbuck's I also got my 3 kids one. Maybe it should have been the other way around and they should have bought it for me? But they did surprise me with a heart necklace from Tiffany's with Mom engraved on it. So I will cut them some slack...this time.

I also can't complain too much. We will be in WDW in 3 short months as first time DVCers. But next year I already told my son he will be going on that cruise with me since my DH already said no.

I'm a non-cruiser as well. Next cruise I'll be staying here also. I don't see any cruise ship in my future. (Maybe if the new ships are powered by wind & solar I'll go...)

Here's to all those who are non cruisers because they're:

workin' for a livin'
concerned about their child's education
have better ways to spend their money (or save for the future)
go on vacation when it's best for their family, and not for a podcast

...and countless other reasons.

We're not on the podcast cruise either.

Originally we were booked on the podcast cruise but then my brother-in-law decided to get married and the wedding was last night. Instead we did a cruise in February and had a great time. On the cruise we received a $99 bounce-back offer for a 3 day cruise for later this year so now we're booked on another cruise on Dec 3. We made out really well. With 2 cruises this year and one being in December, it's doubtful we will do another December cruise the following year but I have no complaints.

I am sure they will all have a terrific time.

Anyway, I've been at work all weekend and have got deadlines for uni work on tuesday and thursday, although, my birthday is on tuesday, and I just got the key to my house yesterday evening, so it's not all bad.

I could do with a nice chuck of a chocolate fudge like cake and some B&J's Phish Food Ice Cream with a nice helping of whipped cream *heaven*

I hope I'm reading this wrong, but I just wanted to say that those who ARE on the cruise care about these things as well. I think those who were able to go are very lucky and just made it work for their schedules and/or families. They also care about the things listed above. Personally, it would not work out for me due to my teaching schedule so I am happy to follow along and live vicariously through those who were able to go.

Now, let's get back to all of the pie and cake. :grouphug::disrocks:[

I believe that is what is going on, but could be mistaken. I know that the DIS cruisers received a schedule and it said they were doing a live taping later on in the week, but I can't IMAGINE them broadcasting it live. The roaming charges, etc. are astronomical for phones let alone computers.

3. Fish sticks extenders

Some alternate activities for those of us in the Kansas City area:

1. Instead of relaxing on the beach at CC, we can hang out in my back yard in the $5 plastic kiddie pool and yell at the neighbor kids to stay off my lawn.

2. Instead of a Disney Institute Webinar, we can surf YouTube for video of talking cats.

3. Instead of a Palo brunch, we can go to Golden Corral.

4. Instead of a fun-filled day shopping the deals at Nassau, we can cruise our local "dirt" mall that has only a Zonkers, Linens N'Things, and a place where you can get your pictures put on a t-shirt while you wait.

5. Instead of a DIS gift basket, you can look forward to pamphlets on your porch advising you to find Jesus, fix your roof, or sell your ugly house.

6. Instead of listening to the water lapping at the side of the ship on a peaceful, moonlit evening, you can listen to the sound of neighbor's dog who won't shut up and the constant stream of traffic that runs by your house.

7. Instead of sharing a relaxing cruise with 300 of the closest friends you've never met, you can end the school year teaching 420 children age 4-12 who have mentally already left for summer vacation.

See...it's not so bad to be left behind....wait.....yes it is! :scared1::eek::scared:

I hope I'm reading this wrong, but I just wanted to say that those who ARE on the cruise care about these things as well. I think those who were able to go are very lucky and just made it work for their schedules and/or families. They also care about the things listed above. Personally, it would not work out for me due to my teaching schedule so I am happy to follow along and live vicariously through those who were able to go.

Now, let's get back to all of the pie and cake. :grouphug::disrocks:[

Ok, I can't tell if you are reading this wrong or I phrased it poorly. Let's assume the latter.

I know people care about these things; I am not judging or blaming the cruisers a bit. However, all of us at home who wish we could be there should remember that it's not just, "Oooh, they're so lucky!" It's just sometimes we need to remember that when we hear about podcast cruises, Disneyland meets, Mousefest, etc., it can get quite unsettling if we all think, "Man, I wish I can go. Everyone else is so lucky." There are good reasons why all of the podcast listeners aren't there. We have things in life that prevent us from living the life to the full-DIS way, but we are not unfortunate in this regard. Yes, the cruisers are fortunate that they could arrange this trip, but I feel it's good for the non-cruisers to remember why we aren't there... and celebrate that.

For example:

Every educator that couldn't go because of their responsibility to their students: I commend you, and thank you for your commitment to educating our children. You deserve a cruise more than anyone.

Every person who is struggling financially: Saving your money now will hopefully pay off at another time. I wish you good fortune in the future, and your time for a well deserved vacation will come... and it'll feel fantastic.

Every student: Focusing on your education right now will pay off in the short term and the long term. The long term you may not understand quite yet (for kids; professional grad students more likely get it), but also the short term... a great end to your semester will make summer break much sweeter!

This is more my gist. I hope I've clarified.

[Side note: I personally feel for those DISers who enjoy being part of the community but are hitting tough economic situations. I see house foreclosures all around me, and people who are scrambling for employment. I can't imagine how they may feel listening to all 3 cruise primer shows, and see Pete's photo of the Roy Disney Suite. I know, it's nobody's fault, and if it bothers you, you are not required to listen. However, if there are any people out there who do feel hurt by this kind of discussion, I empathize with you. I'm sure in another economic climate the overwhelming podcast cruise discussion would be easier to take for some. Hopefully, we'll get back there soon.]

Hi everyone! I am Erika and I can't tell you how long we talked about being on a cruise at our Mother's Day cookout today. I would LOVE to be on the podcast cruise but even though I am not, still feeling lucky just the same as we arrive at WDW in 21 days to celebrate our daughters 21st birthday.

Fun things I am going to do this week while others are on the Podcast cruise; (in order of least fun to most fun) get the washing machine fixed, call the radiologist tomorrow to see if my son's arm was fractured today when he fell, catch up on work at work so you can see the top of my desk, buy a hairdryer that doesn't spark, finish ADRs for upcoming trip & graduate with my Masters Degree!

Look forward to chatting this week!

Hi everyone!!

I'm joining the ranks of those of us who are left behind, anxiously waiting to hear about how much fun the Podcast cruisers had. :thumbsup2

We couldn't go on the cruise because I'm 38 weeks pregnant and the silly cruise line thinks it's not a good idea for women to give birth on a ship! I think it's actually perfect! No worries about finding food, cleaning up or rocking the baby to sleep. :rotfl:

Ahh well, we do have a cruise planned for next year. Can't complain too much...just a little!

no sour-graping here, of course I'm happy for all the cruisers, with their Palo brunch, Disney Institute seminar, etc... yeah we're jealous?!?!?!

in the meantime, we should have a few similar events scheduled for us non-cruisers, so we can experience it just the same:

1. McDonald's brunch
2. Symposium with a, um, uh ... New Jersey! historian, followed by a Q&A (will also make it available online, for only 5 dollars)
3. Fish sticks extenders
4. Gift baskets filled with uh ... leftover easter candy
5. Bar tours ... TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday's, etc.

1) McD's isn't my kind of place, but I will sit at my student's union cafe and have a sausage roll
2) I do a history degree, I can do a lecture on Britain in the 20th Century, the Second Wave feminist movement, Thatcher's Britain or the American Civil Rights movement :rotfl: I will do this for free! (good for revision)
3) mmmmm fish sticks, we call them fish fingers here!

Hi all! Checking in from the Pregnancy Deck. I'm just 33 weeks, and I'm already losing patience. I just yelled at a telemarketer. :guilty: I feel bad about it. I know that she was just doing her job, but we have been getting calls from that number for over a week and every time I answer no one is there. It was someone from the cable company that is also our internet provider. We don't want cable. If we wanted cable we would call them and sign up. Every time the phone rings I have to haul my gigantic pregnant self up to answer, and it was infuriating me that there was never anyone on the phone. (You know how there is that delay before a telemarketer answers?) Well, today was this girl's unlucky day and she actually answered and I not so nicely said for them to quit calling and to take us off their list. I feel really bad about it now, too. I guess these hormones just got the best of me. Plus our internet has been acting up today and cutting out the wireless every so often, so I was already annoyed. I think I need a cruise to get in some R&R!

Anyway, as for the cake vs. pie debate, yesterday DH and I made a cheesecake with a brownie crust to celebrate Mother's Day. Here's a link to the recipe. It is really good and really easy. I actually made the crust from scratch instead of a box, because it's not like brownies are hard to make, and used all vanilla instead of vanilla and almond extracts, but otherwise we followed the recipe. We have an LG washer/dryer combo unit that we really like. It is sooo cool because it washes and dries. You can set the timer to come on at a certain time, and then it will do a wash cycle and then a drying cycle, so you don't even have to switch machines. It's really cool. We got it at Best Buy in 2005.

You are all welcome to join me on the family vacation from hell deck.

Instead of a podcast cruise I get 5 days in Dallas hearing my parents each tell me how horrible the other is. Even when I remind them they have been divorced for 30 years and if they want to see their grandson they'll play nice they don't miss a step. I don't think I have ever looked so forward to a flight with a 2 year old as the one we're taking tomorrow.

Hi Non-Cruising Friends!

Well, hmmm...today was a busy day. It was Day 1 of state testing for the kids. They were nervous, but seemed to do well. I am beyond exhausted at this moment and will retire to my cabin shortly. I am also PMSing like a wild woman and already broke into the PMS stash of Godiva. I am ravenous and eating everything in sight so watch your cake, pie, and limbs!

I just had a thought though. Do you think we'll still have Wednesday chat with them gone? Who would host it?!

I think Nancy is hosting Chat on Wednesday.

hey hey hey people. I have been busting it all day. I planted $200 worth of flowers (my mothers day gift), mowed the lawn, did the laundry, and cleaned the house. I am popped. So what is up for this evening?

I am on the lounge deck with my Disney movie. I will be trying to find that pregnancy deck this year some time. (oooppss did I spill that news. he he he) We are going to try to have number 2 before I am of grandmother age. :rotfl:

I'm heading up to to the buffet for dinner to check out the choices. There's mystery meat wrapped in tin foil, chicken pot pie that's still defrosting and frozen veggies.

Hmmm...maybe I'll just head to the dessert station and grab some ice cream!
I'll be joining ya all for the dancing with the stars a little later.

I spent the morning hanging out at home. Had lunch with my husband and then went and hung out with the neighbors for the afternoon. They have a really cute little 1 year old and he is adorable. After I picked DD up at school DH informed me he was going to the Mavericks game so DD and I went to dinner with the previously mentioned neighbors. So it was a pretty full day.

Hey All! I think the pregnancy deck (if you are looking for it) is located somewhere near the PMS deck which by necessity has to be close to the chocolate midnight buffet! There has been no progress on the washing machine purchase - I am so confused and when did they get to cost $800? I have to get one tomorrow because it will take me a week to catch up if I am without one for too long.

Where and how does one find Wednesday chat?

Have a great nite all, I am headed to soak in the hot tub on the adults only deck and then to bed!

Sweet Dreams of DCL!

Hey, sorry I couldn't check in yesterday. Was in Chicago for DS's 8th grade class trip ( one of the reasons I couldn't go on the cruise)

http://moodymom.smugmug.com/photos/534862758_sxjau-M.jpg

I haven't been able to read back through all the pages, but I see that we have our ship's decks all being laid out. I am off to whatever deck the computer lounge is on. Over the last month I have been working on a memory slideshow/dvd movie with pics, music, etc for the 8th grade send off banquet Thursday night. (Another reason I'm not on the cruise) Have to add the pics from this trip yesterday and finish it up.
