Please explain swaps to me

Can someone please explain how swaps work?? I read grover's post about swap etiquette - but I'm still not completely sure I understand. It sounds like everyone contributes something different and sends it all to the swap host. ??? How does it get shared among the group?

Forgive me for the questioning, but I'm new to the board. These swaps sound interesting and fun! :)

The swaps are lots of fun!
I have been in two on this board. It is easy some one chooses to be the host (Grover thank you!) then 10 people sign up and decided what they will do. For the punchies we made 10 sets of 10 and put them in bags and mailed them to Grover. She then seperated all of the bags and put them in the return envelope. mails them back out!
Hope that explains it!
The punchie one is a good first starter at least for me it was!
