be strung up by his goodies in times square, he should be drawn and quartered, he should be forced to pay every person $10 an hour for every second they are forced to sit in front of a computer fixing crap that should not have been released in the first place. He should be forced to sit in a room staring at the gray screen of death for 20 hours every day till they fix all the stupid problems they have caused. He should not be allowed to use any computer until all their idiotic bugs and glitches are fixed.

If US automakers ran their companies the way microsoft is run... ok that one doesn't work. If the american banking and investment system had the same values and fundimentals.... um nope, not that one either. If the US govt was run like microsoft, well crap, now wonder this country is going to hell,

I've never used a Mac, but if they're anything like iPods, they have their share of problems. It's not safe to update iPods or Itunes when they come out with updates. I've learned to wait for the bugs to be worked out before updating.

Yes Vickie, Vista, or as I like to call it, Microsofts giant inside joke designed solely to drain american's pockets of hard earned money with a faulty product. RRRRR, for some reason, the other day, my laptop just decided to not shut down, no go to sleep, not hibernate, just sit here, always on, no matter what you try to do, and if you do shut it off by just KILLING it with the power button, then it will not start up in anything but safe mode, which you can not get out of, why you may ask, BECAUSE YOU CAN"T SHUT THE DAMN THING DOWN TO RESTART IT!!!!! :lmao::lmao:

I don't have trouble updating. I have just learned that Apple's updates can cause major problems. I still like XP (said as I knock on wood). I would NEVER own anything with Vista. I also doubt I'll never own a Mac. There are too many things that aren't compatable with Macs or Vista, and Macs are too expensive! I have heard good things about Microsofts new operating system, Windows 7. Even Bill Gates realized it was futile to continue working with Vista since he's coming out with a new operating system so soon.

You have my deepest Microsoft sympathies and I completely agree with all you've said about "the evil empire." I tried to use my mother's PC last time I was there. I swear it took a solid 5 minutes to load and every program took forever to open - even her browser! I wanted to launch the thing out the window after about 10 mins. :sad2:

Long time Mac user here. I have 3 and have been using them for 13 years. I can honestly say I've never encountered the kinds of problems my friends on PCs do and have been extremely happy with all my Macs over the years. I use my computer for work (graphic design) and haven't had any issues with upgrades or any wonky system stuff. My biggest complaint was already mentioned - cost. But ultimately I'll take the hit on the price for the ease of use and lack of bugs. :thumbsup2

And these days most Macs will run the same or compatible programs for the most popular home user applications. Every time someone in my family (who basically only use their computers to surf the web) tells me they had to send their PC out for 2 weeks and pay $200 to get things "fixed" I just look at them and say, "you need a Mac." :upsidedow

The other bonus (don't say this too loudly)... Macs experience a tiny fraction of the virus problems that PCs do.

Actually, I use Vista and while not too thrilled to make the switch from XP 2 years ago, i have been pretty happy overall. I am my own IT guy, and can fix most software issues that have cropped up. After a bunch of tweaking, I have minimal problems with my laptop running Vista. I have found some of the updates glitchy, and have learned that installing them one at a time and restarting helps isolate the problem children. NEVER install multiple updates at once and NEVER allow automatic updates. In fact, this may be your problem, John, and you might do a system restore and turn off the automatic updates if you ever get the thing to run again. As the popularity of Mac increases, you can bet the viruses will become more prevalent.

I shouldn't say this, beacause it will come back to bite me, but my laptop has Vista (almost 2 years) and I've had no problems what-so-ever. my desktop has XP and no problems with that either - I wipe it clean and reinstall every year though, just because I can.

I also update drivers regularly on both machines and use avast for virus protection. Works like a charm

I love, love, love my Mac. Like Monique I have a professional link to Macs, graphic design. I have been using Macs since oh, 1986? Just before the first laser printers came out (the Apple Laserwriter) and made desktop publishing a reality. I stopped buying Macs for my own use about the time they discontinued allowing clones (I thought that would be their death knell, I was wrong) in '99? Christmas before last I bought my first new Mac in 10+ years and I LOVE IT. It is an intel-based machine so I can run Mac in one window and XP in another (really run it, not emulate), so I can still access PC-specific applications when needed (like my CAD, a really good disk cataloger, and my panorama sw). But for most things, if there is a Mac alternative, I'll choose that in a second! I looked at high-spec PC notebooks first, and all were running Vista, and with RAM maxed they could barely run. I got my Mac for $200 more than I was looking to pay for a pc, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Oh, and I've never had a hard crash, where I had to reboot to get my machine back. I occasionally will have a program freeze (usually shareware), but can always force just that one to quit. That is NOT the kind of experience I ever had with my PCs. Just my 2¢.

FWIW - My computer support dude called me about a month before Vista was available and, although he's normally a quiet, layed back sort of guy, he actually raised his voice when he told me.... DO NOT UPGRADE TO VISTA!!! I've never used it, never seen it, so I don't know if it's good or bad.

This much I do know...I have had a lot of problems recently (within the past 6 months or so) when trying to print something from a website I get the old "We're sorry Microsoft has encountered a problem and must shut down" crap. My cynical mind is telling me Microsoft is doing something behind the scenes to force everyone into upgrading to Vista or whatever next gen OS Mr. Gates is coming out with.

I was at a Comdex show in Atlanta in 1995 where Bill Gates himself was introducing Windows 95 (or was it 91, 92, 93 or 94?) and when he went to boot it up in front of 400,000 or so people, it crapped. The guy didn't miss a beat. He went on to say, "Well, imagine if you would....blah, blah, blah". I think it took me a week to quit laughing about that. :rotfl2:
