My husband works for himself (construction). Things are really busy right now. I am trying to get a trip in during a lull time but the exact date is not for certain. This means I might have 2 weeks notice before we go. We are driving so I don't have to worry about airfaire. It is the hotels that is bothering me the most. Especially since I want to plan this! lol I am hoping we can get on our way the last week of July (if all works out well)
Will I be able to get any deals? Does anyone have any tips on getting hotels especially at the last minute. I want to go to San Diego and DL and need hotels for both areas.

I would search out some booking sites and make a "favorites" folder. Then when you get your dates just look for specials.
Otherwise pick your top 3 or 4 motels, and call and negociate, tell em you are calling around and am going to book on price.
otherwise call Dreams Unlimited and let them do the work !:D

Is what we use for short notice trips - shoot almost all our trips. You can get some great hotels, we've stayed at the Marriott, Hyatt and Hawthorn Suites for about $40 - $50 a night.
Can't beat Priceline as long as you know you are going. We've even bid the day before several times.
Good Luck!

If you're going to try Priceline, checkout www.biddingfortravel.com (http://www.biddingfortravel.com) . There is lots of information here to make you an informed bidder so you can be sure to get the best deal possible

I don't know if this helps or not but we booked through Hotwire and got the Hilton Suites for $66 a night in late July.
