We will be in WDW in 6 days. We are renting a car. I have never rented before. We are going with dollar. I was wondering about gas for the car. Is there gas in the car when you get it? If you have to get your own gas where is the gas station? thanks,,,corvair

the tank will be full when you get the car, unless you take the gas option ( you pay up front and return the car empty), you will have to fill up before you return it. There are gas stations everywhere.

I have always rented with dollar and have never gotten the fuel option. when you driving to disney you will pass an exit with a home depot rember that exit there is an exxon accross the street from home depot get gas there just make sure you fill up the tank fuel and the guage does not move.:p

greenhornet, I am pretty sure I took the no gas option. I have read that they charge to much. What do you mean the gauge did not move? thanks, corvair

I always decline the fuel and gas up at the Boardwalk or MK Exxon before we leave Disney. It is always still on full when we get to the airport (which I think greenhornet also means).

Debbie, will there be enough gas when I get the car to get me to the boardwalk? Or do I need to get gas near the airport? thanks,,,corvair Ok I think I got it now. There is gas in when you get it. I opted to fill it myself before returning it so it is cheaper than returning empty for them to fill.... thanks,,,I will be there on June 18... getting very excited.

We generally take the gas option. It is not much more than .05 cents a gallon when you opt for it at the counter. Often it is less than the WDW area gas stations.
However, if you opt not to take the gas option, there are many gas stations in the area, we generally drive down rte. 535 until we pass rte. 536 where the gas prices drop dramatically.
The amount used to get to the airport is usually less than a gallon (unless you are driving a gas hogging SUV or mini van) and the needle stays on full. If you don't opt for the prepaid gas option and they put gas in for you, you will pay through the nose for the gas.
Hope this helps. :)

The Exit with the Home Depot is 13 Miles from MCO. I Can never remember The exit # but if the gas Gauge Is not on full they will try to put fuel in and charge you a very high price.

I usually only use about half a tank (around Disney & to the Belz Outlet), so the prepaid option doesn't make sense. If you're going to use it more, it may be worth it.

Corvair - sorry I confused you. It should be on full when you get the car. Be sure to check the car carefully, one time there was a broken tail light cover that I didn't notice (the garage isn't well lit). I only noticed it when we stopped for groceries, I called them as soon as we got to the hotel to report it, I had to fill out a report when I returned the car, they never contacted me about it again (National).

Buying the tankful of gas up front is a big profit item for the car rental company, although some customers may find that choice convenient.

1. It is almost impossible to return the car without leaving a lot of gas behind in the tank and there is no refund.

2. Some customers may buy more gas by mistake shortly before returning the car.

You are better off not buying the tankful and remembering to refill the car yourself.

Seashore,
We use the gas, we are intellegent, we don't fill up before we go back, we don't forget that we already paid. :)
For those that don't drive around a lot, it would not make sense, for those of us that use the car a lot, it is a time saver, and if it is a money maker for the company, they loose with us. ;)

you can fill-up at exit 14 (Landstar Blvd.) which is only a few miles from MCO. There is a Mobil station within view of 417.

Of course, as DebbieB indicated, you can fill-up at the Exxon directly across from the Boardwalk (more expensive) and your gas guage will still be on Full when you get to MCO.
