Dating sites...

So, I know it's off-topic, and I'm kinda new to be starting non-disney related threads... but... I've been lurking and getting to know ya'll for at least a lil while, and figure I'll get at least a couple laughs even if I don't get any real help... Anyways... has anyone ever tried any of those online dating websites? Any thoughts/opinions/etc? Just wondering :)

I met my boyfriend on Gay.com and we've been together 8 years.

My bestfriend (girl) is currently trying out EHarmony to find a boyfriend, and she's had pretty good success so far in terms of qualified dates (note EHarmony does not offer a same sex search - but either they have or will be coming out with one soon, but under different name).

Just like anything in life, you get what you put in. If you're honest with yourself, realize what you want (ie. a boyfriend, long term relationship and not a one night stand), then you'll be able to use the system for you. This means obviously being clear with the people you are matched with etc, what you want.

I think the success rate of online sites like that are just like anything else. Works for some, others it doesn't. You can have just as much success meeting someone in the produce isle at your local supermarket as you can on match.com. Which by the way, I've had more friends have success with that site. I met my partner on bear411.com (grrr!) and after almost three years, I think I've met the one.

I haven't had much luck with any of the sites. Some, like Manhunt and Adam4Adam seem to be more for hooking up than finding friends or an LTR. I haven't really tried looking for anything online in a while. I kind of grew tired and frustrated with it so stopped. Maybe one day I'll throw my hat back into the ring. Unfortunately for me that's probably the only way I'd meet someone. I'm far too shy to meet someone in the produce aisle. My sister met her husband online, I believe it was AOL. Not sure if it was a chat room or personals site. So it can happen.

Actually met my guy on Manhunt. Yes, I know its not really a "dating" website, but it ended up being one for us! 1 1/2 years together so far!:lovestruc
