As our forefather, Thomas Jefferson, wrote the famous document that declared the Independence of (what would become) the United States of America, I now give you a similar declaration- one that will serve as an announcement to the world of our intentions….

“When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to temporarily dissolve the bands from those you love and from all that is familiar and sometimes mundane, and assume the powers of the lure of uninhibited FUN at Walt Disney World, a decent respect to the opinions of man (and woman) kind require that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” (For those of you who are not so much into American history, just pretend you know that this is the preamble of the Declaration of Independence, okay.)

Okay, okay, I doubt my catchy title drew you here, but if it did let me enlighten you. I henceforth invite you to experience with us a good and most noble cause. Perhaps links in our siggies beckoned you forth? May you arise to your duty now- the Freedom Fight of the Liberation of TC3. There is no higher calling for you in these coming months! Was it that you needed a story of epoch proportions, full of adventure, humor, love, whimsy, danger and sacrifice? Come forth- no longer just read about the tactics and victories! Engage now, fellow compatriots! Chronicle your advice, your own tactical moves and strategies in such a campaign, and help move us closer to our goal of winning the highest prize- A WEEK OF limitless FUN at WDW.

Now, you must be dying to know what TC3 means. Very simply, our very strategically and carefully selected soldiers are THE CHOSEN 3. They will from now on be referred to as TC3- our code name for such a lofty endeavor. Shhhh, keep the confidence as best you can!

My aim is not to keep you in terrible suspense too terribly long regarding other, as yet classified, information, but rest assured, little by little, we will take you into our confidence (and as soon as we figure out what we are doing)!!! Suffice it to say, that this will be a highly entertaining, and hopefully highly interactive Pre-Campaign (er, I mean Pre-Trip) Report. But that part is up to YOU!

To get us started off on the right foot- oh wait, all properly trained soldiers start with the left foot! Okay, to get us started off on the left foot, let me introduce myself. I most assuredly promise you there will be others to introduce shortly. In fact, my (our) very first piece of ammunition to be fired in this fight for freedom will come in the very next installment! Truly, it will be quite a bombshell for those of you intimate with the Trip Reports threads!

So, who is this person willing to risk life and limb to win the prize of a week of unfettered fun at her favorite place on earth?? Who is soldier #1? (I only mean #1 in that I will be the first to introduce myself; there will be no Alpha Soldier in our troops!)

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/DSCN1789-1.jpg

My name is Liesa- also known as SteppeSister to those who follow my blog- "SteppeSister's Songs". I am happily married to The Water Guy, who really only tolerates my Disney obsession because he has to live in the same house with me. If he had his druthers, he would ban any talk of THAT topic in his presence, so I try to keep it to a minimum as best I can. Therefore, I have turned to you- my beloved, co-addicts to do combat alongside of me. My kids, (we have a large army all to ourselves) are as successfully indoctrinated to the virtues and pleasures of a Disney vacation as I am, and one day we will all enjoy the spoils of war together; that is after they graduate from college and make adequate incomes to take their Commander-in-Chief to Disney with them!

Our family lives in a Central Asian country- about as far away from Western culture as one can get. Everything the average visitor to WDW finds detestable and disgusting happens regularly here: men (and women) spitting all over the sidewalks, trash being thrown everywhere, rampant smoking in every restaurant and other public place with no regard to children or others nearby. Here's a sample of what we typically see in our daily battlefield.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/DSCN1690-1.jpg
Trust me; the rewards of a well-fought fight for a week of freedom will be more precious to me than you will ever know. But, more on this topic in another post…

As the weeks go by, and as the battles are fought and won, you'll certainly learn more about me and each TC3 soldier. Until then,

Cast off the shackles of yesterday!
Shoulder to shoulder into the fray!
Our daughters' daughters will adore us
And they'll sign in grateful chorus
"Well done, Sister Suffragette!"

Well.

The surprise.

Ok...I have to admit. Seeing this opening had me incredibly confused...:confused3

“When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to temporarily dissolve the bands from those you love and from all that is familiar and sometimes mundane, and assume the powers of the lure of uninhibited FUN at Walt Disney World, a decent respect to the opinions of man (and woman) kind require that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

I asked myself several questions…

Like…what in the world does this mean? :lmao:

But then I really got drawn into the imagery of the soldiers and was recruited.

Literally, I tell you guys…Literally.

You see…

I am soldier number 2!!!

For those of you guys that don’t know me…I am Maroo.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/Photopass%20Feb%2009/ce61056a-1.jpg

And this will be my SIXTH trip to WDW since October of 2008, when I was blessed to be able to join Lauren and her family on a Make a Wish trip.

You may have seen me around the DIS…because I am a DIS addict. ::yes:: Or maybe you have not seen me around…that is ok, too. :thumbsup2

Some of y'all might want to subscribe to this little pre-trippie. Because…well…I'm a little crazy. And I am going WAY out on a limb…and spending a week in WDW with two people that I don’t even know! :scared1:

That’s right. ::yes::

We don’t know each other. :sad2:

We have never met. :scared1:

Except on the DIS. :thumbsup2

We have talked on the phone. We have chatted a lot on Skype. :hyper2: But we have never met. And she lives halfway across the world from me. Literally.

So, how do we plan? What have we planned? How is THIS going to work out?

:woohoo: :yay:

maroo's trips are so fun to read about, she certainly impressed me- which is one of the reasons THIS trip is even going to happen. I'll let her welcome you too, but I just wanted to say that we are glad to have you along. We plan to have a lot of fun in getting things together for next year!

mncherokee,
I know it's a terribly long way off, but hey, planning is half the fun, and with us living (literally) half way around the world from each other, planning takes on a bit of a strange twist! We'll keep you involved as we get everything worked out- nice to have you aboard!

Hmmm... with a screen name like yours, maybe we should choose YOU! :woohoo:

Okay, in all seriousness, I will introduce soldier #3- RIGHT NOW!

All7OfUs
05-05-2009, 04:23 AM
Okay, let's meet soldier #3! LeeAnn has been a friend of mine for a very long time! She has 5 kids just like myself, and works at a corporate housing company doing something. I think she sets up rentals and takes care of customers' needs as they arise- but as soon as she joins us, she can tell you more- because frankly, I don't know! :confused3 I don't have a picture of LeeAnn, and I don't even know if she wants one posted, so when we hear from her, we can all ask!

You might be asking just WHY LeeAnn can't join us right now, so I'll tell you about her own little (okay, BIG) personal war she is fighting right now. LeeAnn is running for her local school board, and the election is in 2 weeks! :scared1: You can imagine how busy and stressed out she is right now with campaigning and all that, so if you think of it, send pixie dust her way, I know she can use it! :cheer2: We NEED more ladies like her on our local school boards!

I also think it's time to tell you just how maroo joined up in our freedom fight. LeeAnn and I had actually asked a 3rd friend of ours last January when we started planning this trip, but she had to back out. She's starting a business and didn't feel she could save the money or get away by next year. I had also asked my sister, but with 2 little girls, she couldn't get away the first week of school when we wanted to go.

So, as I was getting to know maroo through her reports, I was lamenting the fact that my 3rd trip partner had backed out- wah, wah, boo hoo and all that, and she joked back about needing a replacement. I PM'd her and told her, "Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM!" It kind of snowballed from there :dance3:

So, that's how we ened up being totally psyched about this trip!
We are ready to fight hard to make this work! There are so many plans to be made, tons of money to save, schedules to actually work out in our favor, and circumstances to "just work out right". But, we promise to tell you all about it as the weeks and months come.

They still talk to me, so I guess that is a good sign! :) Of course, we weren't together for a full week, either! You might have to ask Sarah for help on that. Hi Kathy!!

It's sure going to be tricky! We thought we could make our ressie at 500 days, but when Maroo called they told her, "Nope, only a year out". But arranging that transaction between the 2 of us was harder, being in 11 hours different time zones! :rotfl2:

So, you'll all have to wait for a while, as we want to keep you all in perfect suspense over where we're going to stay. Mostly because we haven't figured it out ourselves!!! :lmao:

i'm here and subscribed , one more to add to my user cp but i must admit, i am going to have to give up my part time job if i keep subbing to threads, just curious but how many do you guys subscribe to? especially you maroo? because i think you have everyone i have and more. lol cant wait to hear all about this adventure

I can't answer for maroo, but I follow about 10. That's as many as I can responsibly keep up with. If I tried to do more, I'd forget half of what I read and I probably end up making strange comments on most of them. Not that I don't do that anyway! :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

Ohhh, too bad!! That's a huge bummer, especially after you spent so much time and effort into it!

I just got off the phone with LeeAnn, and she reminded me that she lost her last election 3 years ago by only 10!!! votes. She has a classified staff interview tonight, so is getting ready for that. She assured me that after the election, she will visit us herself!!:banana: I can't wait for her to introduce HERSELF to you!

It's actually been a blessing that I didn't win given the 'politics' in my town :lmao:. I'm thinking of trying another time for a different position. It gives me hope to hear LeAnn is trying again:woohoo:.

I must stand corrected!!! I talked again with LeeAnn just to get my facts confirmed, and I was wrong, I missed a zero, as she really lost by only a hundred votes. So, see, maybe despite your politics and only losing by 21, you should run again too! You never know! :cheer2:

Oh, sister...You really don't want to know. I have categories...My threads - I think I have 5 right now? Then I have Wish Families and Trips - About 30 or more; WISH (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) - About 10; Regular TR's and pre-trippies - About 15; and other swap, information, waiting on hours, etc threads.... Right now I have over 130 subscriptions...but most of those are not active. But PLENTY are very active!

But I have a job that requires me to hold on the phone for hours a day and I am a major multitasker (and also work only 30 hours a week at my regular job), so I have lots of time, too!

Most wars are not fought and won in one day. The American Civil War lasted a grueling 4 years, and the War for Independence was waged for a staggering 8!

I take you now to the battlefields of the TC3...

A long and hard fight is ahead of us, and yesterday, Major Battle #2 (if you'll recall, Major Battle #1 was finding just the right compatriots) was fought and almost won. (I suspect a second go-around will ensue to complete the victory). But first a little history- afterall, aren't most wars a result of a complicated chronicle leading up to them??

As I mentioned in my introduction, my DH is definitely NOT on the same page as all of us who hang out here. I wouldn't say that he HATES a Disney vacation, but he has only been to ANY of the parks a total of 1 day. He just feels that a vacation set in a naturally beautiful setting (ie. camping) is what he'd rather do. That's fine. I like camping; we've camped for many years together. But, I like a vacation full of good eating and sleeping in a real bed, and being in my childhood "Happy Place" too! Let's face it, air mattresses and lunchmeat sandwiches on vacation is fine once in a while.

The other reason that he is reluctant to give his full blessing to indulging my Disney obsession is the funding factor. Okay, fair enough. He has to find finances for his own battles of being equipped to climb his mountains and SCUBA dive here and there. I can understand that. So, I knew I was going to have to tiptoe around this quest and fight it in stages.

So, 4 months ago, I "lobbied" for one of us (Duh, ME!) to travel back to the States to help get our oldest son moved and settled into university. I have no idea where that will be yet, but I have some pretty good ideas. So, he consented to that. Yes, one of us needs to be there to sign any papers (can you say, "Gee, let's sign our lives away now, and go into deep debt") and help him move into his dorm room and meet his roommate, and all those things that you do when your first offspring moves out into the great big world.

Then, about 2 months ago, in a stunning tactical move, I announced that my sisters and I were planning a "little getaway for just the 3 of us". I think at that point he was beginning to wonder if this was indeed turning into a Disney visit. Oh Gosh! If he only knew!!!! Again, no resistance, so I was clear to proceed a little more. Dude, your infrastructure is crashing down all around you, and you don't even know it!!

Now came the trickiest part. I knew I was about to drive my Humvee right through a thick minefield of unexploded bombs- ironically, I was the one about to drop one! You see, LeeAnn is our pastor's wife. He happens to be, in some ways, our boss! They also happen to be our best friends, and he does call occasionally to say hi, how ya doin', and all that. SERIOUSLY, people, for a month I had been laying awake at night with terrifying visions of him calling while we were revelling in our victory at WDW and spilling the beans!! Can you imagine?!
Dan- "Hey, I guess our wives are having a great time at WDW??"
Mike- "Uhhh, where?"
Dan- "You know, this vacation they'ev been planning for over a year and a half..."
Mike- "No, I didn't know anything about it. "

Okay, a little awkward, right??

So, you see I just had to come clean. There was no way around it. Besides, it is the right thing to do. right?

So, after making him the best Thai meal we've had in a long time (butter up the enemy, right??) I asked him to sit with me for a while. Please, honey, come sit in my minefield with me for a while, won't you?

Me- "You know... I was talking with LeeAnn this morning..."
DH- "Oh yeah? What'd she say?"
Me- "Well, I asked her to come out to the East Coast while I'm in the States next year, and she said yes."
DH- "Really? All the way to the East Coast?"
Me- "Yeah, and wherever my sisters and I go, she'll go too."
DH- "That's nice."
Me- "By the way, you know that we haven't ruled out Disney World yet."
DH- "Uh, yeah, I had sorta figured that."
Me- "Okay, great..." long, long silence ensues of contemplating if I should say more. No way Jose', we're leaving it at that for now. It's out there, and phase 2 of this one will have to wait for another day.

So there you have it. If LeeAnn's DH blabs, it's no big deal, I feel better, I have no more night terrors, and my sisters can (okay, they already have!) back out at any time. Trust me, we'll get there- but this has to be fought like all successful wars- with good tactical moves and slow deliberate progress!

I love the tactical thinking. I kind of did the same thing with my husband, but he loves Disney - just not the price. I went to Disney Days at AAA in January and priced a vacation. I reserved it for the complimentary 24 hours and took the prices home to him. It was when they were having the buy four get three free deal, but you still had to pay for food and it was expensive. Then about 3 weeks later Disney sent me an email with free dining for the fall and he said we could book it. He also said that we had to have so much saved by May 1st or he would cancel it. However, I knew once it was booked it would stay. We did save all of the money for the trip and the trip is on. It is too funny the way you have to approach things with husbands!

OOOHHH! I love all of your tactical moves- they are so cunning! I'm leaving the financial figuring to maroo, cuz, frankly, Disney has effectively made it so that I just can't. but by the time we've won all of our battles and it's time to grab our spoils of war, I'll have all I need saved up.

It's a given fact that any war effort takes HUGE amounts of funding- and some more than others! During World War II, the American Government sold war bonds, and citizens were expected to (and they actually happily participated in) recycling rubber and metal for the effort. Anyone ready to grow a Victory Garden to help fund the Iraq War?? During the Revolutionary War, property was confiscated, and soldiers camped in civilian's homes. How about a soldier or 4 living in your den??

Now, we come to the hard fought fight of getting oneself financed for a week at a Disney Resort. Let's face it, a reality of life is that some make a higher salary than others. Those with a modest income must fight their war harder in some ways to be victorious- and planning must be a bit more creative. Of course, along the way a genious stroke of luck doesn't hurt either!!!!

Let's examine Soldier #1's clever means of financing her personal war of claiming the prize of my WEEK OF FREEDOM!

(This particular update was scheduled for much later in the progression of things, but a stupendously wonderful thing happened this week, that I just HAD to share, and ties in directly with this whole topic of wartime financing.)

Early on, in fact several months ago when the TC3 was forming, I had determined to save a fixed amount that I would trade into dollars and have hand carried out by travellers through our city. This would in turn be deposited into my super-secret, brand new Freedom Fighters account. I figured it would grow to just the right budgeted amount, which included enough money for all the little extras that I thought I wanted for this trip. NO, I won't let any secrets slip out on accident here! You will definitely have to wait for any of those tactical moves to be revealed. But, let's just say, I was set to have a great time if this monthly transaction happened regularly. Now, this money would cover the basics of a good time with some frills, but imagine what happens when a sypathetic comrade comes along and helps finance the war effort through say, a birthday gift, or hey, how about a Christmas bonus? That my friends, is gravy! Maybe it means a fancy, schmancy pants dessert at one of our chosen mess halls, or maybe it's an extra souvenir I have my heart set on. You never know...

But, here's the late breaking news... Two weeks ago, I got a letter saying that an account I had opened 2 years ago for financing last year's trip, was going to start charging me $8.95 a month for a maintenance fee. Huh?? I closed that when we left last May! Strange- must have their records wrong... Circular filed!

Fast forward.... to this week. An e-mail comes. Hey, they are going to start charging you $8.95, and they haven't heard from you. What should I do? (This from our POA) Ummm... you'll have to go to the bank, and explain that we don't live in the US, that that account was closed over a year ago, and I have no idea where they are going to get $8.95 a month, cuz' it ain't there!

GUESS WHAT?! They never closed that account AND there was over $350 in it!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! BONUS in the biggest of ways!!!! First priority is to (with joy) give 10% back to the One who gives good gifts, then stash the rest into above mentioned super-secret Freedom Fighters account. I'd say if the regular money is still stashed away faithfully, and the friendlies still give an occasional goody- bonus, AND I add in this "Holy Cow, I never expected THAT!" surprise, I'll be pretty set for a pretty Bombastic time! In fact, I might have some left over in this account for them to "forget" to close it, and end up being a super cool surprise for a 2011 trip!

Until Next Time, Your Faithful TC3 Soldier #1

Whoa!

350 BUCKS!!! Awesome! :)

So...hmm... that has me thinkin'... :scratchin

First of all...you crack me up with your soldier references...I need to read up on the American Revolution and maybe history in general if I expect to add ANY war references! You might have to help me with that strategic move. (Did you catch that? I slipped one in. Maybe I can do this!?)

And did I catch wind of a 2011 trip?!?!?! No way!

Congratulations on your good fortune!!

Kathy

THANKS!! I so completely blown away, and have soooo many ideas of the little extras (hmmm. or maybe big extras) that I could do!

WooHoo that's great news. Always love it when money comes in from no where.

Well, to be fair, it just goes to show how NOT well I take care of bookkeeping around here. You'd think I'd have known right away they didn't close it! HA! Oh well, I'll take it, even if it comes from sloppy banking :)

Whoa!

You are all so NOT going to believe this!!! Perhaps I've been too long in this battle of staying young, and REALLY, REALLY do need a dose of Disney to combat my PTSS of having another birthday in my 4th decade. I was looking back over everyone's kind comments and my own posts, and THIS is TOO funny! I guess it really never sunk in that I was only 42, because not once, but twice I said I was turning 43!! So, not only am I NOT 43, but I am REALLY 42- AGAIN! :lmao:

Hmm...checked both pockets. Nada. Checked under the mat in the car and I found 45 cents! I bet if I check the couch I could scrape up some more! :rotfl:

Actually, the State of MS, in their infinite wisdom, mailed my tax refund to the wrong address (should scare us all...since the address is right there on the tax return!) and it is going to be resent! So I have a little extra, too....

Okay, first things first. Let's put that $.45 into the proper perspective! That my friend, is almost exactly 10% of a Dole Whip float! I'm partial to the floats, myself.

I was wandering trip reports last night and came across Maroo's sig. I lurked on her trip report for the Wish trip, and so I started reading.

Since I've met up with people I hadn't met at DLR, and went on a ladies only trip where I only knew one person...I don't think this is all that out of the ordinary. I'd also met up with people from wedding planning message boards...meeting one for the first time at a bridal salon, to help her choose her wedding gown (and I did do just that and it was gorgeous on her). :)

Sounds like quite a bit of fun! Though I can only imagine what the internet "spiders" are thinking about the war references in your report, especially coming from a 'stan! :rotfl:

I'll be following along!

(oh, and regarding 45 cents...we've been paying for things in cash, and putting the change into a jar, and in only a couple months I have more than enough to pay the replacement fee for hubby and son's lost (on a ride) Disneyland APs (at DLR you have to pay for replacements unless you have a police report OR a super-nice CM...it wasn't stolen and we can't bank on a pixiedusting CM though). it adds up!!!)

Hi There, bumbershoot!,

Welcome to our zany madness! So glad to have you with us!

Yes, we probably aren't doing something that's super un-ordinary, but still, it seems odd that we all are willing to trust our gut feelings enough to share a room for a week, send money to and from each other to cover ressies and all that. :confused3

I'm not too worried about the "spiders" - I'm a very long way off from the problems in the "stans". Our little village is a mostly peaceful place, where folks adore the status quo. But, thanks for the reminder of being careful!

Those loose pennies, and little things we save on really add up, can't they?? For our last trip, I put all the coins I received as change at every place I went and paid cash in a box, and it was the same thing- like enough for a dinner out for all 6 of us! I did the math here too. If we don't drink ANY soft drinks for the 3 years we'll be here (using the amount we normally DO drink), we could save enough for 2 nights at a mod. resort!

Well, it will be fun to have you with us! Chime in whenever you can!

So, most armies aren't very democratic (okay, maybe NONE are! :lmao:), but since this is all about going to WDW, we want to be- at least a little!

If you remember... Soldier #1 "found" $350 extra bucks "just lying around" waiting to be ceremoniously given to loot pile. If you need to refresh your memory, or see why I would even post this poll go: HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31779872&postcount=59)

Now, I promised maroo that I wouldnt' give ANY of our secrets away yet (you'll have to wait until we get a little closer to our ressie making time), so you have to assume that none, all, or some of what's on this poll is hypothetical. But, seriously, we really do want your input. We are wavering on a lot of things right now, and your opinions could sway us. So help us out, VOTE NOW, and join the fun!

There has never been a cause fought without some sort of perceived enemy. People for centuries have fought long and hard for things like territory, ideals, profits, even slave labor!! Let's journey together on a very noble cause, not over such petty and mundane things like natural resources or lower taxes, but freedom!!

FREEDOM, my friends! What would you give for a week of freedom in a place you loved, and the ability to do whatever you little ole' heart desired?? Would you fight for the resources to have it?? Would you inconvenience yourself for just a little while? Would you stay up late planning and plotting; place yourself in the tenuous situation of being placed on hold with Disney Dining, not knowing when, or even if, you'll get your much desired ADRs?? Since you are reading this, we must assume that indeed you would do all this and more!

So, a week of freedom?? This begs the question--- "Freedom from WHAT?"

We all have our enemies of daily life. They can (not always, but sometimes) wear us out, make us tired, and seem to never end. You have yours, maroo has hers, LeeAnn has hers, and I certainly have mine. Let me take you on a visual tour of my little personal enemies.

My first enemy is simply the environment I live in. There is very little that is beautiful about the area I live in. I crave a beautiful, green, well attended haven to rest in-just for a little while!! Topiaries, flowers, fountains, and clean water, here I come!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Beach.jpg

How about the mundane chore of cooking?? Generally, I really like to cook and generally, I can cook up some pretty good meals with the EXTREMELY limited ingredients I can get here. But PLEASE! understand me! I would LOVE for someone ELSE to do the cooking for me for just one week! ADR's, World Showcase restaurants, pork anything, green salad haven, here I come!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Cooking.jpg (http://http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Cooking.jpg)

Partly because I'd do it anyway, and partly because we really have no other choice here in our isolated city, I homeschool. I love my kids- each one; but once in while, I'd like to sneak away and leave the books behind. Instead, I will study hydroponic growing techniques in The Land, the effects of gravity on Expedition Everest, and centrifugal force on The Teacups. How's that for a change of homeschool pace?
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/HomeschoolBooks.jpg

Laundry. I'll bet not one single person who reads this actually likes laundry, or would trade it for a week of not doing it! Here there are NO dryers, we use the sun and all it's glory and our 2 arms to get what we wear dry. Wanna know how many times we've with our own hands, had to fix our washing machine?? 3! Do you think DH will get me a new one, even though it sounds like a jet plane taking off in my bathroom?? Please, take me away, Calgon!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/hanginglaundry.jpg

So what are you personal "reasons" for taking a week away at a very special place?? I know escaping the "enemies" are only a small part of why I would choose this as a prize.

maroo, what are yours??

In the next couple of weeks, I'd like to share with you all, the other things about my chosen prize, that draw me to it. I know you will ALL identify with many of them, if not all.

Come one and all, we invite you to tell us the things you really love to declare your freedom from when you hit the road to our favorite place.

P.S. maroo thought I should say it once again, or at least remind you, that I live overseas in Blank-a-stan. The pictures make it look like we are poor folk, but we aren't. That stove is the ONLY size they sell here, it REALLY does look like that outside, there really ARE NO dryers for sale here yet, and the nearest school that teaches in English is 900 miles away! We are very, very isolated, but not very, very poor.

I've actually gotten used to having to use this pathetic excuse for a stove. In fact, I just cooked some Chinese food that wasn't too bad. But, here's one thing I really want to do in this Pre-Trippie. One way I've been passing the time in anticipation is trying out some recipes that scream Disney. So, in the coming weeks and months, I want to offer a little food art, a la, homecooked in XXXx-Stan- complete with recipes and all. When I do that, remember WHAT I am trying to cook that Tonga Toast on, okay.

Yes, I NEED a week off! At least one siggie dinner, here I come!

This is just hilarious!!!! And you know I don't do Teacups...:sad2: Right, right? :lmao: But I will be glad to take your picture while you are on them so you can explain to your children the properties of the centrifugal forces that you were experiencing at the time! :thumbsup2

:lmao:

Hmm.... this is going to take some thinking... :scratchin

I think you forgot an enemy...

The COLD...the frigid, frigid cold in your area!! Tell these people what your average temperature is in your area in the winter. Maybe it is because I am from the warm south...but...people...it is COLD there!!! :goodvibes = me shivering!!

Yes, I KNOW you don't ride the teacups!! There was quite a big to-do with Sarah, if I remember right :rolleyes1 So, you just take a good picture of us spinning maniacs, k?

Yes, I did not mention the weather! It is over the top crappy! Like 110F summertime, and - (yes, that is a minus sign) 20F or 30F (we even had -50F one year) in the winter. In say about August 1st and Jan 15th, I could say that the weather is Soldier #1's worst Enemy! :scared:

:rolleyes1 on the Teacups! :)

Just for kicks, I looked up our average temperature here in Mississippi...where I am from...in the sticky south!

During the summer we average 92F...but the humidity would knock you over! It really can get HOT!

But during the winter, our average minimum temperature is above 32F! Which I why I think -20F and -30F is just crazy cold!!

So I would definitely consider THAT an enemy!

I do not live in XXXXXX-Stan, but I too have been trying my hand at Disney recipes....I made Tonga Toast for dinner the other night...mmmmm that recipe is a keeper!
Last night I made the bread from Ohana and the honey lime salad dressing to serve at a ladies night tonight at my house. Yummmy! Has anyone else made the bread from Ohana? If so I have a question.

All7ofus Please share with us your adventures in cooking disney style! I would love to hear more!

that's nice

I guess I left that part out. Not on purpose, just didn't think to add it.

Here's the scoop....

In April, 2001, our family of 6, packed up and left the States, to move to Blank-a-Stan, so that we could work in community development. Basically, we provide assistance to very small villages that have NO running water in the form of small projects. It always means that DH writes grants. But each water project is different, depending on the needs of the village. One time we donated a water truck to deliver water to families. Another time, we replaced piping to the street taps, and in the same village we also re-furbed their village deep well. Right now, they are in the middle of providing water systems to about 12 area schools, giving them water heaters, sinks, cisterns, and a septic field.

Anyway, that's what we do, mostly. ;) Of course we are involved in other areas too, but hey, this is the internet. You can PM, and I'd be happy to elaborate.

So, this trip is like a small bonus, because normally, we only come back every 3 years. Our "vacations" are usually to closer places like Thailand or Dubai.
I'm only returning to the States "to get my son situated into university"- at least that's the line I used to talk my husband into letting go. :rotfl:

So, there you have it. My life on the Central Asian Steppe.

Even after talking to Leisa for months, it is hard to imagine life there! Some of the stories I read on her blog and the things she thinks are "normal" (ask her to tell you about the rockets some time...) are just amazing.

She talked to Lauren on the phone about a month ago and Lauren still asks about "that friend who lives in the wierd place"...:rotfl: She can't pronounce it!

Anyway...I am glad you have joined us!

** Also...I will be on a mission trip with Lauren for the next week (going to Chicago inner-city). We leave Saturday and don't return till the following Saturday. So...for the first time since October, I will be taking a mini break from the DIS. I don't know how much internet I will be able to use and we will be so busy that I don't anticipate posting much. Anyway...I have people that actually PM me when I am awol for a day or so, so I figured I would let you guys know. :)

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments on my latest happenings. I am now officially the newest member of the Beaverton School Board. It has been a long process and it feels good to have it behind me. My duties don't begin until July so I have some new found time!

Let me introduce myself.....I am a mom of 5 kids and a wife to one man. Two of my kids are in college and three are still under my roof. I work part time for a corporate housing company and do all the billing, inside sales and other things that no one else can do! I really like it but my favorite thing is to be a mom.

I am new at this sort of thing so I may be a silent observer. I have never been to DW and have only been to DL three times in my life but I am so excited that I going to be a part of this magnificent trip.

So there you have it. Let the fun begin !

Military generals and analysts, even during Peace time, are constantly evaluating their options for any given enemy or territory, are they not?? They take stock of their weapons, engage in hypothetical battles without ceasing, and scrutinize the lay of the territory with the latest equipment and up-to-date technology.

Would any serious soldier about to conquer such an uncommonly vast and immeasurable territory such as Disney World NOT do the same?? No one likes a long hard slog of a war with many casualties. I can't think of too many folks who WANT to go to the World without some sort of battle plan, so as not to be wounded while on duty. I don't mean broken bones, but worse tragedies, like waiting longer than 20 minutes in ANY line, showing up to a park without an idea of where to find rations quickly, and wasting an inordinate amount of time wandering around and arguing with your comrades as to the best plan of attack! These would far too easily present the chance of battlefield chaos and possibly even defeat!

No way, fellow compatriots, these lady soldiers are going in prepared! Our reward of a week of luxurious fun is almost guaranteed, since no stone will be unturned, no resource undiscovered, and no plan not analyzed fully.

So, what kinds of planning ammunition is available to the serious-minded WDW vacationer?? Let's start with the books that have been my constant companions for many weeks now. Each one has yieded numerous hours of entertainment, and I dare say, a vast and invaluable, treasure trove of tactical planning material!

With this handy-dandy little collection of books, failure is not an option.

I am so happy with this one! It is full of everything from where to eat to how to navigate the transportation options. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/miscfromcamera020.jpg

This is one I am REALLY looking forward to using in the parks and around the rest of the property, but since I'm such an uber geek, I mean super soldier, I am studying up on it now. ;)

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/miscfromcamera023.jpg

These are good to, and I've learned a lot, but for planning, I'd say they weren't so super helpful. I'm sure they will bring back lots of useless trivia to mind when I'm there, but for now, I'm finding they are just good old bathroom type genre.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/miscfromcamera018.jpg

The last group is my favorite by far! I LOVE these little books, as they give the backstory to each park, and even each "land" within the parks. They bring the big picture of what the Imagineers were thinking during design and construction, and have given me a whole new appreciation for the care and depth to which they built the parks. These, in my opinion, are must-buys! And, by the way, the DHS one came out not too long ago, and I just ordered mine.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/miscfromcamera019.jpg

Now, after all that reading and thinking and planning, what does any good student of tactical options do?? She writes them down, of course!! But where?? Okay, I admit it, I'm a goober, and too obsessed, so I made something. Besides, I wanted to play with my new toy. So, here it is the: take it with me to the bathtub, write all options down, pages and pages filled with numbers, and super- secret (still) plans for dining and touring- Master Planning Book. It's small enough to tuck in my bag and take to the parks, and best of all cheap. Cut up computer paper, 1 nice sheet of double sided cardstock from the scrapbook store (sent by my sweetest of Moms) and a wire binding. Easy as pie!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/miscfromcamera022.jpg

I'm afraid the contents are still classified though until we get our ressie made. Until then, you'll have to be content with other things we are doing to pass the time until our victory is secured.

Well, until next time, happy reading. popcorn::

Hi There Again!

Well, I voted too, myself, but I went with upgrade resort, just cuz I'm a gal who likes variety. HOWEVER! Renting a car was a VERY close 2nd. Without giving too much info away too fast, I figured we could just use DTrans. and suck it up. But, I also know that by having a car on our last trip, we saved probably what would have amounted to about 3 or more hours of wait time. One time my sis took the bus, and I the car, to EPCOT from The Fort, and she got there at least an hour after me! So, that's why I posted this poll. By the way, we didn't have PH's and were just fine, we never had that urge telling us we should be somewhere else. :confused3 But, it might be fun to try hopping to hit an extra EPCOT meal or something ? So, don't feel bad!! If I were going with kids and we didn't have the $$ to upgrade, the rental car would have been FIRST on my list :drive:

Hey TarzansKat!

Wouldn't that be a totally DIFFERENT kind of trip??! One just to slow down, and one that would force you to stop and see the small things and litte hidden things (no pun intended!) all around you tucked away in the parks and resorts. I'm for sure taking this book and finding as many as maroo and ThePreachersWife will let me. :rotfl2: My kids and I LOVED looking for, and finding, a bunch of them last trip!

That would be totally awesome. I get a little taste of that when my son naps on our vacations. Usually I need to do a little power-walking with him in the stroller, but once he's konked out, I can slow down, take my time and check things out. Last year, DH and I just spent some time watching the glass blower on Main Street in the MK, and I loved looking at all the props that themed that area. It was too cool!

I have talked to Leisa and she has had a tragedy in her family. Her Grandma died on Tuesday. The circumstances are under investigation, but it looks like she may have ended her own life.

Since Leisa is overseas, this is especially difficult because she can't be with her family right now.

Anyway...your prayers would be greatly appreciated for her family!

The FREEDOM Chapter from Soldier #2:

My fellow soldier posted a great introduction to her life in ______stan and explained why she really needs this vacation to gain some FREEDOM from her day-to-day world.

And I contemplated her chapter... :scratchin

Because I need to write one, too. What am I seeking FREEDOM from? Why do I need a vacation? :confused3

And honestly...I had a very hard time coming up with reasons I need FREEDOM.

I am single and in my mid-30's. Some people tend to feel sorry about that..."Don't you wish you were married?" "Are you dating anyone YET?" etc... But honestly...I already have FREEDOM! Every day I enjoy my FREEDOM.

I live, work and play. I have many blessings in my life...

Here is one of my blessings...Muffin. My precious yorkie....child...I know, she is a dog...

But how can anyone resist these eyes?

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/photo-2.jpg

I live: In a condo. I own it and it is small, so my payments are low (no rent) and someone else takes care of my flowers! (Which is nice, because they would be dead if I took care of them!)

And I have the COOLEST pool...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/sept%202010%20pretrip%20report/chialpha2andmore052.jpg

Do you see it?

Yes, I have a Mickey Mouse pool. Well, not exactly. It takes some creativity to come up with Mickey ears. But it is a bunch of circles and all of the kids call it the "Mickey Mouse" pool, which works for me! ::MickeyMo

And I work: I have three jobs. At my main job, I have an office with a view. I love my job! I am truly glad to go to work. I work 4 days a week.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/sept%202010%20pretrip%20report/chialpha2andmore030.jpg

My second job is taking care of Lauren.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2009/chi%20alpha%202009/chialpha1147.jpg

It still amazes me that I actually get paid to help her. It isn't much and I would do it for free!

This was a pic from our recent trip to Chicago. Lauren's Mom, Lisa, is on my right. And yes, Lauren is wearing a jacket backwards. It is so much easier for her to wear it that way! Crazy, I know. Someone needs to invent a jacket that she can put on backwards and have it look normal! :goodvibes

I don't have any pictures of my third job...but I do a little consulting here and there auditing clinics and doing training on compliance for medical billing.

And I play!

I love to swim and ride my bike! Here is a pic from the last triathlon I did. Don't be impressed, it was completely for fun! I didn't break any records. Well, I might have broken a record for the longest triathlon time on record! :lmao:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2009/triathlon/may1609074.jpg

And I love my church. Although it is listed last here...it is a major part of my life and I really love it!

This is the sun setting over our church building the other night.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/sept%202010%20pretrip%20report/chialpha2andmore024-1.jpg

So...what was the point of THIS?

What do I need FREEDOM from?

I have no idea! :confused3

It is HOT here in Mississippi. Well, not so much HOT as HUMID! And it does get hot AND humid in the summer. So, by September, I will be glad to be able to head to the World to cool off! Go figure that, right!

Please stand with us, and when things return to "normal"- when this conference I've been organizing (that still has 2 days left) is over, after I hear more news of dad, after I make the decision to fly home or not, and when arrangements for Grandma's memorial are made, I will come back to DIS-ing. Just to let you know, I'm going ahead and going to the States today. It will take me 36 hours to travel, and I'll be there for 2 weeks. We will have a small memorial service for Grandma hours after I get there. I am thankful I will be able to be there for that!

Sorry...maybe it is because I am from Mississippi...but I have no idea what "spiders" are?!? Can someone tell me? Can I even ask? Should I even ask?

So sorry...it's a "web crawler", meaning something that looks on the internet, for key phrases. I only thought of all of that b/c my mom (when she was alive) and my stepdad (until he finally, totally, retired after working there since Vietnam) worked for a large intelligence agency in Langley VA, my mom specifically in the department that listened to "chatter" from the middle east...she died exactly 18 months to the date before that fateful day in September, and I wish to gosh she hadn't b/c she had a brilliant mind for putting things together and briefing the higher ups, and who knows what she could have figured out that her co-workers didn't.

Anyway, that's why it came to mind, that there was some internet catchphrase-watcher-out-for going "tilt" on this thread. :upsidedow I think it's amusing to think about, nothing serious was really meant by it. :goodvibes

Back to trip planning!

I'm really for the OP's recent losses and bad news.

Sorry to hear about your loss and your Dad's stroke, Leisa. I hope things go well with your trip to the US and that your Dad recovers quickly.

It is HOT here in Mississippi. Well, not so much HOT as HUMID! And it does get hot AND humid in the summer. So, by September, I will be glad to be able to head to the World to cool off! Go figure that, right!

Okay, escaping the heat will work! Actually, any reason now qualifies for a vacation, and is worth fighting for!!

Now LeeAnn, Soldier #3, list out your "Enemies" for us, so we can cheer you on, too. I know you're lurking- you told me you were just today :surfweb: "Come out, come out, wherever you are..."

First of all, I want to thank each of you who was thinking about my family and me this week! Your prayers really meant a lot to me.

Now, let's get this field manual opened up again! We have a lot to share with you this week, and we promise it is all VERY exciting!

Amidst this small defeat, there has been one fun thing that has become possible: an opportunity for Soldiers #1 and 2 to pack in some tactical planning- IN PERSON! After looking at our field map, we discovered that where I am visiting and where she lives are only about 7 hours apart! I gave her a call, and we have decided to meet up in Nashville NEXT weekend!!:banana: And even cooler is that Lauren might even get to come! (If you're not sure who that is, or you are just joining us, make sure you visit maroo's TR by following her link in her siggie to her Rainbows Wish Trip) :thumbsup2

Mary informs me that the Opry Mills Mall is a great place to shop, and even has a Disney Store that we can procure some Fighting Essentials from. So, we'll be meeting there for the first time in person. Will it be weird? :confused3 Probably.... for about 3 seconds. Will it be awkard? :confused3 Nah! Will we get along like we've know each other for a decade? :confused3 Geez, I sure hope so! Afterall, we'll be sharing a hotel room for a week next year! :lmao:

What else should we make sure to talk about? I definitely think that ADR's should be discussed, as well as our top priorities for each park and out of the trip in general. Maybe a general plan for how much time we'll be together, and how much time we'll want on our own should be mapped out too. How about all of you- our faithful and loyal compatriots? If you had this kind of wonderful tactical planning advantage, what would you make sure was on your agenda? Any hot topics you'd make sure you'd hit? popcorn::

By the way, we've already decided where we're going to take in our rations for this trip. We'll get at least lunch, but probably dinner too during our mini-meet. Where will our little group end up discussing all things Disney?? :grouphug: But that's for next time. You'll have to stay tuned this week as our plans take shape.

Also, just so you know, with all that's going on these last couple of weeks with my "real life" and now with my family, I haven't had much time to be on others' reports. I know I'm behind on so many of my DIS friends' PTR's, and it's going to take a long while to catch up. Hope you'll forgive me, but I WILL post soon! ;)

Of course, there will be loads of pictures, but you'll have to wait until maroo gets back to get them off of her really cool new camera. HA! Sorry about all this exciting suspense. :rolleyes1

I promised pics from my new camera!

First...a picture of the camera! :rotfl:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/swimming%20pics%20june%2009/cameracanonD10.jpg

Isn't it pretty!

But this camera is really special. It is digital...and waterproof! Up to 10 meters down.

Here are some pics we took yesterday when I went swimming with Lauren, William and Lisa.

First William...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/swimming%20pics%20june%2009/61009009.jpg

Lauren is severely disabled and can not sit or stand on her own, but in the pool she has a lot more freedom and is able to sorta walk a few steps (if her legs behave) and she "swims" by going under and kicking her legs and then we grab her after we count to 7.

Here's Lauren swimming...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/swimming%20pics%20june%2009/61009018.jpg

But my very favorite of the pics....

and hopefully this was worth the wait...

I love the pool photos. The pool is so healing. I remember when we were trying to get Tyler to walk. He could not do it on land, but he could in the pool with a walker. Then later we used water therapy once a week for a year for his club feet and his torticollis. I love the pool! The new camera is great! :cheer2:

I love, love, love your new camera!!! Love it!!! We can take some really awesome pics. of our upcoming mini-meet, can't we now??!

Hey I have some great news too about cameras! The one I took to my WDW trip last year was lost when we moved back to Blank-a-Stan, but it was here at my sis's house the whole time. Hooray! Another digi. to have fun with. I love this one better because it runs off of regular AA batteries.

When I do my installment on "Wartime Documentation" there will definitely be more about all of this stuff. :cool1:

So, all you lurkyloos, let us hear from you about what you think we should talk about in Nashville!!

The things I'd probably talk about would be what is everyone's top 3 must rides in every park, top 1 restaurant they want to eat at, park hoppers or not, and maybe resort. Other than that have a good time meeting up for the first time. Sounds like your going to have a great time during this sad time. It'll be a great distraction for you.

Yes, indeed our trip to Nashville will be somewhat bittersweet. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be in the States before our trip next year. I wish I had gotten to come home under better circumstances.

Well, we decided to not go to the Opry this time, just isn't (sadly) in the budget.

But, we (maroo and I) have some AMAZING things planned for this Saturday, and we're dying to share them all with you! We promise some incredible surprises, LOADS of pictures, and some just plain old fun!

Let's just say there will be tons of Disney drama (in a good way)... ;)

A DISmeet!!!

I am ashamed...:sad2:

We had a casualty this weekend.

My camera. The new one. Well.... I apparently left the battery charger in Chicago...because I can't find it ANYWHERE.

Which means...I went to Nashville to meet up with Liesa and some fellow DISers and have nothing to show for it...yet.

I know there are pictures on some other threads and Liesa has some pics, too. But we will have to wait for a "real" update...this is just enough to tide you guys over and tell you that we are all alive!

I had a BLAST meeting Liesa.

I will tell you one funny story from our trip...

When Lauren and I were waiting at the restaurant...not entirely sure I would recognize her from her pics and just a few video skypes...She came in and I saw her...and I thought, "She is shorter than I imagined." Then I walked up to her and gave her a hug and said it out loud!

All I could think after that was that I was so nervous that I said that... and she must be thinking... "She is fatter than I thought!" :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

We met her for lunch, went shopping and shopped till it was time for supper! After some sad goodbye's, Lauren and I got in the van and Lauren said, "I feel like I have known her forever. I feel like is she a long lost best friend!"

Lauren is exactly right!!!!

We had so much fun. And Liesa does have pictures. But she will be heading back over the big pond tomorrow (a 36 hour trip), so I am sure it will be later before she can update and get pics to me...so we will have to hold on for that...

Stay tuned!!!!!

I got my pictures loaded from our Nashville Planning and DISmeet trip!!

So it is time for the report!!!! Maroo style... (Liesa will have to pipe in here soon - I think she has only been home a couple of days and it took 3 days to get there - so we will give her a little while to get over the jet lag!)

Friday:

Lauren and I headed out from her house prepared for our 6-7 hour journey to Nashville. Lauren was excited, but also quite laid back. Whenever I would ask for her opinion about where we should eat or whether we should do A or B...she would say, "I am just along for the ride!" :cool2: I think she was just glad to be going on a road trip!

Our trip down was uneventful. One stop for gas, restroom break and dinner (all at once - that is the way to do it, people!) and then Nashville! We arrived at a perfect time, just as the sun was setting over the city. I wish I had a free hand to take a picture, but it was all I could do to navigate the interstates. ;) It was beautiful.

We checked in at the Marriott. I called about 20 hotels to find one that had a roll in shower AND two double beds (these rooms are rare) and was able to reserve one at the Marriott, so the cost of the hotel did not bother me as much. But when we got there, they did not have such a room. :confused3 Instead they gave us a room with a roll in shower and one double bed. But the front desk made it right and gave us a second room to sleep in...so one to take a shower and one to sleep in. Which was AWESOME on their part. :thumbsup2 Unfortunately they were quite far apart, so it involved moving all of our stuff twice. :upsidedow

It was late by the time I got her out of her chair and ready for bed. At this point, I was honestly wondering if I was totally crazy to be embarking on this journey with Lauren alone. I am used to having two adults whenever we travel (sometimes three) and I realized fairly quickly that it is hard to be two places at once. I needed to finish unloading the van, but I could not just leave Lauren in the room (she can't even answer a phone if it rings) and could not get help if she needed it for some reason.

But I did leave her in the room - for just a few minutes - and ran to get the rest of our stuff. I was so stressed because it took me forever to get it all situated to bring in one trip and I figured she would be totally freaked out by the time I got back to the room.

I forgot about the "silver bullet"...cable TV. They live in an area where you can't get cable, so they only have regular boring TV, so Lauren loves watching "real" TV when she can. She was enthralled in the Disney Channel (that's my girl!) and had not even noticed I was gone. :rotfl2:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/nashville1044-1.jpg

Notice in this picture that Lauren is smiling...but not looking at the camera...she is looking at the TV. She won't even look away from the TV to take a picture! :happytv: :rotfl:

On my way back to the room, I spotted THIS...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/nashville1039.jpg

And decided this was going to be a GREAT trip!

Once I unloaded all of our stuff, got Lauren's stuff laid out in room #2 to help us go faster in the morning, and got myself ready for bed...I crashed. :cloud9:

Saturday:

The plan was to meet Liesa and her parents for an early lunch. I had calculated the time it would take us to get ready...and have promised Lauren I won't post that...but I will tell you that I miscalculated. I don't know what I left out - but by the time I packed our stuff from the first room and got us moved to the second room, showered, dressed, hair, makeup, etc...I was WAY behind my schedule. And I had not gotten myself ready yet. So, we cut some corners and I got ready quickly! I had planned on wearing jeans and a nice shirt...but did I mention it was HOT in Nashville? Somehow I thought it would be a little cooler, since we were going North...but it was hot.

So I punted the jeans idea and put on the only shorts I brought. Blah. Great...meeting new people in shorts and a T-shirt.

Packed the van, checked out of the hotel, programmed the address in my GPS and hit the road. We almost made it on time. And Liesa called to let me know they were running a couple of minutes late as well (construction traffic). That gave us a few minutes to find a parking spot, unload Lauren and put our name on the list at The Cheesecake Factory! :woohoo:

I knew what Liesa looked like. We have talked on Skype (with a video connection) a few times, but I had no idea what her parents looked like. And I was a little nervous. Will I recognize her when she comes in? Will we have a good time? Will Lauren have a good time? All 3 of my previous DIS meets have been fantastic, so I don't know why I was so nervous. But I was.

Liesa and her parents came walking in. Of course, I recognized her immediately and did not hesitate to give her a hug once I saw her. But my nerves got the best of me when I said out loud what was in my head, "You are shorter than I thought you would be."

Her parents were so friendly. They all were introduced to Lauren and we were seated almost immediately.

I can not fully explain this and don't really expect everyone reading this to even understand it. But it was like eating with old friends. Even her parents, who I have never met and never talked to...even with Lauren added to the mix...I just felt like I knew everyone forever. We were never at a loss for words (imagine that). We talked about our families, our churches, what it is like living overseas, what type of work Liesa and her family do...It was a great meal filled with lots of great conversation.

One of my favorite parts of the conversation at the meal was when Liesa's Dad pulled out his iPhone to check the internet to verify a fact in the discussion we were having! I am sorry...I don't know how old Liesa's father is...but it SO cool to have someone in a...uh, er....wiser generation than I...to even have an iPhone. :thumbsup2 But when he pulled it out and jumped on Google...:worship: Rock on! That was so awesome.

So...food. I know you guys want to know about some food!

Lauren and I ate a four cheese pasta with chicken. We split it, because we decided before we ate that we definitely wanted some cheesecake!

I will let Liesa tell you guys all about what she ate (and didn't eat! :scared1:)

But Lauren enjoyed THIS for dessert. Good choice, Lauren!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3167.jpg

And I enjoyed this... yum! (Peanut butter, chocolate, Reese's, Butterfinger....) :cloud9:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3172-1.jpg

And we were DONE. Stick a fork in me. I can't eat any more!

After lunch Liesa, Lauren and I ventured off for the rest of the afternoon on our own. Liesa's parents are not Disney fans. (I know , right!)

Our first priority for this trip was to get a little Disney planning in. This was the first and probably only time we would be able to meet in person to discuss our trip. So we stopped at Panera Bread and found this perfect little nook....

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3182-1.jpg

Liesa brought us both gifts of chocolate and pirate stickers! Because this was a pirate sort of trip! pirate:

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3178-1.jpg

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3176-1.jpg

This was so SWEET and sweet of you, Liesa!! Thank you so much!

And that, my friends...is all that you are going to hear about our pirate Disney discussion! :ssst: The rest is being saved for later...:rolleyes1 But we talked about a LOT of stuff.

I thought Lauren was keeping up fairly well in the conversation...She HAS been to Disney before. And hears me talk about it all the time. But she told me later that she only understood half of what we were talking about. Evidently there is a DIS language and Lauren does not speak it. :rotfl: :lmao:

I think it goes something like this...

"Well, we will have to remember to make our ADR for XYZ in time to ride TOT and RnR before we hop over to MK to catch Spectro and ride Buzz and the TTA. And I really love EE, so we will have to make sure make it to rope drop..." and on and on and on. You understood that, right? :confused3 But Lauren - not so much.

**Fast forward to Sunday night: I just have to tell you this, because it cracks me up. I got Lauren a little excited about going back to Disney and we had several discussions about their family going back and doing Disney "commando" - i.e. no long makeup sessions before we leave the resort and actually get to the park for "rope drop." Lauren is actually in favor of this idea after hanging out with Liesa and I for the day. Go figure. Lauren without makeup? :confused3

We were explaining this concept to her Mom and Dad at supper on Sunday night and used the word "rope drop" several times before realizing that they had no idea what that meant.

When Lauren did all of the explaining, her Dad looked up from his dinner and said, "Uh oh, she has been converted! She has moved over to the DARK SIDE." :darth: :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Cracked me up! *** Rewind to Saturday afternoon!

Anyway...following our TOP SECRET meeting of the generals (we have promoted ourselves...we are no longer soldiers...we are generals. We move up the ranks VERY fast!) :rotfl: we headed to the mall...

maroo
06-27-2009, 10:03 PM
The Opry Mills mall, to be exact!

We parked right outside the Rainforest Cafe, since we would be eating supper there at the end of our day.

And we had a pirate moment...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3184.jpg

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3186.jpg

:lmao:

We laughed later because we wondered if this vehicle (motorcycle? :confused3) belonged to a DISer!

If so, we didn't harm it! We barely even touched the handlebars. And we just couldn't resist. Pirate. pirate:

First on my agenda was to head to the Disney Store for a DIS meet.

Lauren knew nothing about THIS DIS meet. This one was planned without her knowledge. The plan was to have cajunfan (Lynn) "recognize" Lauren in the Disney Store and just come up to her and start talking to her like she was famous. :rotfl2: Lynn works at the Disney Store and was set to get off work around 3PM, so we hurried there first.

But we were running so late, that I had to tell Lauren that we needed to go to the Disney Store first because I was going to meet a friend that was getting off at 3:00...there was no other way to get her to pass all of those stores on the way to the Disney Store without stopping...without telling her I was meeting someone.

Once we got to the store, I looked around and did not see Lynn...but I also did not have a picture of her...so I was not entirely sure who I was meeting. But Lauren was shocked when she heard "Lauren!" being called across the store! It still had the same effect, because Lauren had no idea that anyone was looking for her! :scared1: "Lauren, I know you!" :rotfl: It was priceless! I wish I had a camera trained on her face... and :scared1:

And Lynn was SO sweet. She had a large bag full of goodies for Lauren!

One of the coolest things was this jacket that Lauren can wear "backwards"... Lauren can't wear most jackets the right way because of her chest strap...it is much easier to put the arms on and just wrap the jacket around her. Lynn made her this jacket by cutting out the back and sewing it up so that Lauren can wear the jacket with her head through the jacket and it half zipped. It looks like she is wearing it the regular way. I will try to get a picture of this the next time I see Lauren, because I stink at trying to explain it.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3188.jpg

Here is the best picture I have of the jacket...you can see it cut out on the back.

And Lynn is in the purple shirt!

Lynn also included a very nice Tink jacket and some other goodies for Lauren! Lauren actually traded the jacket (which was really, really big for her) in for this HUGE Mickey and Minnie beach towel (I may have to borrow it sometime) :rolleyes1 Lynn was beyond kind to her...got her lots of gifts and even had it worked out in case she needed to exchange anything.

Lynn took a picture of all of the three pirates and her loot!

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3191.jpg

Lynn, thank you so much for your kindness! You really made our day. The Disney Store is lucky to have you.

We played around the Disney Store for a few more minutes...

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3192.jpg

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3194.jpg

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3195.jpg

Aren't we cute!

And then went shopping around the mall!

Lauren tried on scarfs and bought a couple of outfits.

http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq324/mblaine/2010/nashvile%20trip%20liesa/DSCN3204.jpg

And before we knew it, it was time to go eat supper...and catch up with some more DISers!!

More to come...

Wow! What a great day. and you aren't even finished yet. Lynn was so sweet to do all of that for Lauren. And that looks like a great Disney store, it looks really big.

My turn to pipe in! :woohoo:

Yes, jet lag spanked me pretty hard this time! I don't think I've ever had it this bad in all the dozens of times I've flown across time zones!!! :scared1: Each day gets better though, and instead of taking 4 hour naps each day and only sleeping until 4 AM-- :snooty:, I'm getting through with no nap and making it to a more sane 8 AM-- :cool1:. Thank Heavens!!

So, all good soldiers pull themselves up by the bootstraps and march on, don't they? Yes, sir!! It's great to be feeling a bit more like myself and ready to push on in this saga.

Now, let's pick up where maroo left off, shall we?

First let me add a few pictures that maroo left out... I'm not sure why? :confused3

Here are a couple that give you a good idea of how intense our planning was:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera105.jpg
Anyone who knows how long it takes me to drink a cup of coffee would know by the looks of this cup that we sat there for a VERY long time! Mary had her trusty laptop out comparing numbers like a madwoman (okay, maybe not that bad...) and we made long lists of our top priorities for each park and for our time in general. It was TOTAL blast!

Here's one of maroo sporting her glow-in-the-dark T in the glow golf place! Now, wouldn't THAT be fun in Snow White and Peter Pan!?!!?
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera120.jpg

Now, everyone knows ALL good DIS-ers take a mandatory photo of their tired dogs on the TTA, but who says they have to be tired LOOKING? We ran into this little kiosk, and Lauren gave it a try. I'm thinking that I'm definitely going to have to find that online and get some for our TTA footsie photo! Whatcha think?? And hey, ThatsNice- you can reserve your comments! HA! :rotfl2:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera126.jpg

Moving On. Lauren had just bagged a really nice checked shirt and an adorable white scarf to match. She said she didn't really know how to shop, but I didn't believe her for ONE minute!! She cruises- literally! Unfortunately, I did NOT find a suitable bag for our upcoming trip. Hmmm.... do I foretell loads drama in my bag-hunting future in honor of Kathy??? I did however, find some really cute jibbitz to pop into my very first pair of Crocs I scored for the trip. Just think hot pink Original Crocs with sweet little Minnie Mouses adorning their wholly, holey tops. Question- do everyone's Crocs smash their toenails?? I cut mine, but they still seem to hurt the tips of my toesies. :confused3

After we conquered the Mother-of-all-Malls, like soldiers on a mission, we headed over to meet with our newest DIS friends. You've all seen the photos of that meet, so I won't bore you with yet another rendition, but I did want to share one observation I made. Here is the outside of the Nashville RFC:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera130.jpg

Here's the one from DTD:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/DSCN2745-3.jpg

I guess I imagined that they would all look the same, but apparently they are different. :confused3 We put in our name and chatted with the group until our table was ready. Again, it was so nice to meet each of you, and it will sure be fun to keep up with all of your reports.

Now, I don't know of too many DIS-ers that don't enjoy a good meal. Although, I am not a foodie (see last year's Trip Report for more on that! :lmao:) I do enjoy good food and good company. This meal happened to have both ingredients. :woohoo:

After saying our goodbyes to the group, we were quickly seated. The restaurant was loud, but not as loud as I thought it might be. We could still carry on our sweet conversation, but all 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed the sights and sounds around us. The gorillas chattered like my girls, and the elephants roared occasionally like my boys. And the stars shone and meteors fell, like when I fall in love with my DH all over again. :cloud9:

Our server was very attentive and took our order right away. If I had known that maroo would be treating me to my dinner, I would never have ordered that very tasty glass of wine. It did taste good though, after a long day of shopping! And it went with my VERY garlicky pesto pasta dish very nicely. I can't imagine what that must have smelled like upon our hugs good-bye!

Continuing along.

I had just ordered a very garlicky pasta dish flavored nicely with pesto and broccoli (which I did eat like a good girl, uh hmmm) and maroo and Lauren ordered this tasty little number:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera140.jpg

maroo, you should be thankful I'm not your mother!!!! cuz I'd have made you eat your veggies!! See them left here??
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera144.jpg

Apparently, no trip to RFC is complete without a photo (that they'd love to sell to you for an exhorbinant price) with Cha-Cha the something. Help me out people! Is this a gecko or a frog or a some other rainforest creature??

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera139.jpg

After a too short dining experience, my parents showed up to gather their offspring. It was time to head back to Bowling Green to pursue more important matters. maroo and Lauren had a long drive ahead of them anyway, so it was time to break up the party. :sad2: But we had to have one last parting shot of the 3 of us.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera145.jpg

Just think the next time we get a picture with pretty little fishies, it will be in the Living Seas Pavillion at EPCOT! Woo Hoo!

Meantime, as we Skype together we will no longer be strangers wondering what each other is like. We'll be lifelong friends ready to tackle any battle together!!

Welcome home!! I am glad you are getting over your jet lag.

Now, first questions, first...

Your DH did not tell you, now that you have already had a trip to the States, that you can't take this trip, did he?

First let me add a few pictures that maroo left out... I'm not sure why? :confused3

For the life of me I could not remember why on earth we took a picture of an empty coffee cup? :confused3 :rotfl: :lmao:

I am glad you cleared that up. :rotfl2:

Mary had her trusty laptop out comparing numbers like a madwoman (okay, maybe not that bad...) and we made long lists of our top priorities for each park and for our time in general. It was TOTAL blast!

:rotfl:

I do put on a different personality when I pull out the laptop and start crunching numbers.

Now what would I be crunching numbers about? :rolleyes1

I think I left this one out because I look like a dork.

All kidding aside...this shirt WILL be cool in Snow White and Peter Pan. It is very bright when it is in the dark. Our church has COOL VBS shirts!

You might want to save your money. Lauren noticed my nail polish was off the next day.

It could be because I was hitting my fingers against her chair all day when I was picking her up to move her or something, but that polish did not last 24 hours on my hands. - So, see...I CAN save you money! ;)

Yes, once Lauren gets going, she certainly can shop!

She wore that shirt and scarf to church yesterday and it was super cute!

I have a "week off" from Lauren this week, because I am going out of town and they are getting the house ready for Grandmother (they have lots of company), but when I get back to her house, I will take pics of what she bought.

She liked shopping with you! She said YOU had good taste. :rotfl:

The jibbitz are going to be so cute in her crocs!!!

I do think the crocs are too small if your toes hit the ends. I understand that properly fitting crocs actually don't touch your feet at all when you are standing still in them. :confused3 Can anyone confirm this?

Our server was very attentive and took our order right away. If I had known that maroo would be treating me to my dinner, I would never have ordered that very tasty glass of wine.

I figured you traveled the furthest for this meet! And you Dad insisted on picking up lunch, so it was only fair. You don't have to worry, though...I won't always pay! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I will save you guys the last part of our mini TR - because Liesa did a great job summing it up for us!!

I will tell you that our plan to go to church the next day did not work out. We planned on visiting the church of an old friend of mine.

But when we arrived at the second Marriott, we were informed that they had NO rooms with roll in showers. Nevermind that this is a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (I am still in conversations with Marriott and the ADA about that issue), we were unable to give Lauren a proper shower. So...we just got up the next morning and drove the rest of the way back to Jackson.

This was an awesome trip! We got to eat some great food and do some shopping...but the best part was definitely the people. It was well worth a 13 hour round trip to meet everyone! Especially Liesa - who I feel like I knew already and feel like I have known forever!

I can't wait for this trip. Any trepidation I had before our little meet is gone. We tour the same way and are going to get along great. Even if I don't drink coffee.

I haven't been DISing for a few weeks and have a lot to catch up on!

Liesa - first of all I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma and Dad. I wish your trip to the States had been under better circumstances. However, it sounds like you had a great mini-DIS meet which I am sure brightened your spirits.

What a fun day you guys had and I am glad you got to do some trip planning in person. I am sure it is much easier to plan when you can just sit and chat. I can't wait until you fill us in on some of the trip decisions you made.

I love that Lauren was able to come with you Mary! :headache: to the hotels! Keep after them until you get some answers. It was so sweet of Lynn to do all of that for Lauren! She is so generous with the Big Give families too.

DISers do have their own language and I sometimes forget that when talking to "regular" people. I am glad Lauren got converted to the dark side and that rope drop might take priority over two hours of hair and make-up.

BTW Mary it was great talking to you in IRL tonight!

Looks like the pre-dinner mini-meet was great too - more details on that please!

Looking forward to the next update from one of our generals (or did you get promoted again already?)

Thanks!! It has been quite a painful thing to go through, with lots of "stuff" to wade through. Thanks for your concern and well wishes- and yes, the day with Mary was quite a bright spot in my 2 weeks there! :cloud9:

All I can add is that it was very short (maybe 15 minutes max), but cordial and interesting. I had only known about it for a few days before it happened. If I had known a bit more beforehand, or the circumstances were different, I would have liked to have read everyone's TRs before meeting them.

Looking forward to the next update from one of our generals (or did you get promoted again already?)

There's a whole installment about this tasty little subject coming up soon! :rolleyes1

We sure did have a nice time together! I think we're really going to have a nice time together.

I think the Cheesecake Factory is a bit hit and miss. The first time we went (earlier that week) it was great. The time with maroo was only so-so.

The corn cakes were rather "mushy" and the fish tacos were kinda "fishy" tasting.

Uh-Oh... more Bag Drama!!

RE: Crocs... are yours the Beach or the Cayman style??

The Beach tend to be a bit roomier, but only come in limited sizes... the Caymans are more streamlined and good for in-between sizes. The Crocs website says that if your toes are touching the inner edge of the shoe, then they are too small and you need the next size up. :thumbsup2

I originally got my Caymans in my usual size, but my middle toes were touching the front of the shoe, so I exchanged for the next size up and they are so comfy!!!

Hi Mom, This is a good report. Everybody is probably wondering. I am one of All7OfUs's 7. I am DD16, princess: I am a disney lover, but not as much as my mom. She has thoroughly and successfully hijacked me to the Dark Side of the boards. But don't let all of her eloquence on the boards fool you, she is really just a pirate. MK for now stands just for Magic Kingdom...in two or three years I can tell you more. That is my favorite park.

I wish I could go on Mom's Trip of Liberation. But she only has enough power to liberate her lime green Mickey heads, and her two friends from the cluches of my father and her other sworn enemies.

You know my enemies probably better than anyone, since you are the target of the homeschooling "torture". HA! Thankfully, you are super-de-duperdy daughter and alleviate some of my daily drudgery of dishes and laundry. :woohoo:

Don't worry. Once you have a real job and we live closer to WDW, you too can become as obsessed as your DM! Ha!

Uh-Oh... more Bag Drama!!

Kathy

I don't know what kind they are. I think they are the original, most basic kind. Bummer! I guess I wasted $24.99 on a pair that's too small! Ah well, I left a bag of "trip stuff" behind at Mom and Dads to pick up next year. My Crocs are in there with a pair of good old fashioned New Balance tennies which I'll probably end up wearing more of anyway.

Maybe I should have added "New Crocs" to the poll list for the extra spending money! :lmao:

Yes, more bag drama! Gramma had a nice over the shoulder type bad, but it is black leather. NOT so very attractive, but usable, and free.

As most of you know, Soldier #1 lost her dear Grandmother 3 weeks ago, necessitating an unexpected trip back to the US to be with family. Amidst the very real "ick" of losing a loved one, and dealing with all the family issues that arise out of circumstances like that, one very, very exciting result of that trip ensued. I was able to meet maroo! As we've said many times, that was more than wonderful!

During my stay in the States, many afternoons were spent going through some of Grandma's things. Both she and Grampa were packrats, and rarely threw anything away. She had trunks that were brought over from France by her parents when they immigrtated, handmade lace items for the next generation to treasure, and uncountable trinkets from every stage of her life.

On a stormy afternoon, sitting on an attic floor with my mom and aunt, we opened one of the oldest looking trunks. We couldn't believe the priceless hoard of goodies we found including teeth that they had lost as children, crafts they had made as gradeshchoolers, and believe it or not, EVERY loveletter that Granmpa had written her while he was on a gun boat in the South Pacific during the War!!!!!! And before you ask, NO! we did not read them, for he is still with us!

On top of those letters however, was one that immediately caught my eye! It was an envelope that had, of all things, Disney letterhead! What??! What could possibly be inside a yellowing, Disney envelope with a Burbank postmark? As to the historical significance and importance, the dates speak for themselves.

Here is the envelope- untouched for perhaps 50 years!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera084.jpg

And a close up of the stamp:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera085.jpg

I carefully opened the envelope, fairly trembling at what might be inside. Here is what I found:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera074.jpg

Here's a closer shot of the first of the two letters addressed to her.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera075.jpg

Apparently, she was being recruited to work at the Studios in wartime productions! We know that before she was married, and for a few years after, Gramma worked at as a hospital administrator, and was very good at what she did. We always teased her for knowing AND REMEMBERING her shorthand!

The second letter surprised us even more!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera079.jpg

And a closeup:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera080.jpg

As a bonus, here's a shot of the envelope letterhead:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera082.jpg

It is certain, that she never took this job, at least not to any of our knowledge. She met and married Grampa only 6 months later. So Disney missed out on a lovely lady whom we will always cherish!

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Pre-Trip%20Report%20Pix/miscfromcamera086.jpg

Now, in case you thought I was done sharing Disney treasures with you, we found in the same trunk one more Disney antique I wanted to let you see (soon). Tucked away into the corner of the aging brown, leather trunk was a little brass figurine of a donkey with a pack on. On the front it says "Frontierland"! My aunt picked it up, and with certainty says (with a little tear in her eye), "I remember buying that in 1957 or 1958. You can have it." :worship::worship::worship: I haven't uploaded this one to photobucket yet, but will do so in the next couple of days. It is a real treasure for sure!

You see, my mother's family lived in La Crescenta for over 60 years before moving to the Kentucky area. In fact, they knew many of the Disney animators personally, and my uncle by marriage was an animator who worked on Bambi, I think. However, I need to verify which movie it was. I do know his personal specialty was owls of all things.

So, there you have it. Disney runs deep and thick in my veins! There is no possible way for me to have escaped this passion of mine!

Enjoy!!!

Aren't they?! I thought it was absolutely incredible that she would have saved them, and that I would have been lucky enough to have found them!

She really was! Inside and Out! I always thought she could have been a movie star :bride:

I grew up only about 50 miles from DLand, and went there several times a year growing up. Being a CM there was sure fun!

BEKKA!!!!!!

How are you! I am so glad you have joined us on this pre-trippie!

Wow! Disney is in your blood. What a neat find! I would love to know if she actually went to the interview. I am definitely the only Disney nut in my family though I am trying like crazy to insure that DD carries it on. I think I have her sufficiently brainwashed at this point - she sees hidden mickeys everywhere! Can't wait to see the photo of the figurine!

HA! :rotfl2:

As for secrets.... no, not much longer, Mate! Honestly, we are kinda waiting for Mary to take that Sept. trip of hers for the first major announcement (can I jsut say that we are hoping there may a bounceback in our future?). Meanwhile, if you say please, maybe we can loosen up our security clearances and let you know one or two of our ideas. Maybe.

Another major observation I just made....

Look back at the poll.... Do you see how upgrading and getting PH's and 1 dinner just evened up??? Hmmm... now that's interestin' ain't it?

By the way, does anyone know if there is a way to get a poll off or better yet change it?? I asked the mods., but they told me to go ask the tech board. I've never had good luck with getting responses from them, so I thought I'd try here first.

Also, can someone tutor me through multi-quoting? I've tried highlight ONLY what I want to quote, pushing the multi button, then doing the same for the next poster, but everytime they pop up in the reply window, ALL of what they wrote gets quoted, and I have to get rid of everything I don't want quoted. There has to be a better way. What am I doing wrong??

Now, now...you must get permission from the Commander in Chief to be releasing sealed documents! :rotfl: You might cause a war or something. :rotfl2:

Multiquoting...

You click on the little " at the bottom of each post that you want to quote. So if you want to quote three, then instead of pressing the quote button, you press the " button for all three and then hit "reply." Try that.

As for removing a poll...I have no idea! I can't even add one! :confused3

So...ya think we should release any secret info.

As for releasing secret documents and revealing information from our planning conversations- we might have to begin to bring some of our faithfuls into confidence. Some of them have shown amazing patience and trustworthiness among our ranks.

We, the Ladies of The Chosen 3, in order to form a more perfect vacation, establish childlike wonder and fun, ensure touring tranquility, provide for the common enjoyment, promote the general sense of satisfaction of money well spent, and secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our whims, do ordain and establish this Constitution for The Ladies of the Chosen 3.

Article I- Qualifications of The Chosen 3

We, Ladies of the Chosen 3 must have a deep-seated sense of fun and adventure and an unbounded sense of wonderment waiting to be unleashed at all times, beginning with their journey towards WDW.

They must be daring, to the extent that anything might happen at any time, such that as a handshake, hug, or even an impromptu waltz could happen with Pooh Bear without the slightest bat of an eye.

Each lady must bear the name of The TC3 with the utmost pride, being a full participant in each laughable moment from the planning to the remembering!

Each must also be extremely congenial, dealing with blisters, heat, rain, missed ADR's, closed rides, and any other expected or unexpected circumstance with grace and charm. (we are always like this anyway, so no worries-but in the face of war, one's true character is revealed)

Article II- Decision Making

All major vacation decisions shall be made by The Chosen 3 collectively, with the understanding that any one of the parties can veto at any time by choosing not to participate.

However, if one party member chooses not to participate in an activity requiring reservations, she must notifty the TC3 ADR coordinator in time to cancel without big deal ramifications.

Article III- Whining and Complaining

Each TC3 Lady agrees NOT to whine, moan or complain (this includes eye rolling!!) about the plans that have been made!

However, husbands, other family members, previously mentioned sworn enemies and other facets of our routine lives are all fair game!

Article VI- Grace and Understanding

Each TC3 Party Member shall recognize that the others will have come for various reasons, motivations, and means. Therefore, each TC3 Member will give grace, patience, and understanding during the U.L.T.t.W.D.W. (Ultimate Ladies Trip to WDW) If someone says "no", there shall be no cajoling, teasing, pushing or putting down. Let's face it, while one may want a balloon, another may want an hour alone.

The Obligatory 10 Amendments:

I. NO farting in the bedroom!! but the bathroom and balcony areas leave every freedom for flagrant flatulance-let 'er rip ladies!

II. The TC3 remain the right to laugh at each others' character interactions. And NO laughing at each others' arm flab during hugs or poses- especially Soldier #'s.

III. Each Member must act and feel childlike during the trip. If skipping down Main Street, or buying a 3rd Mickey bar facilitates that, then it can and will happen!

VI. maroo agrees to eat her zucchini and cucumbers at each meal, or she must ride the tea cups twice in a row! :lmao::lmao:

V. Sneak photos of immature behavior is absolutely allowed, but the others must ask permission to post them first- especially if there is arm flab in plain sight!

VI. The Ladies of the TC3 agree NOT to laugh at the others' most likely riciculous purchases. One woman's treasure is another's rejectamenta.

VII. NO throwing hissy fits for getting trounced on Buzz or TSM. Let the high score speak for itself.

VIII. Soldiers #'s 1 and 3 will agree to accomodate maroo's obsession with the hot tub at least once or twice. But, I say a margharita by the pool afterwards baby!

XI. Belly laughs, tears of joy, random glasses of wine, and impulse purchases are all allowed, and in fact, encouraged.

X. No Soldier will withhold their meal from a food art picture. All must be properly recorded and goggled over.

They will look great framed up with some other trinkets after we get back to the States. She was a great lady, and I will never take a trip to WDW without thinking of how she took me as a child and rode rides with me and ate frozen bananas by my side.

but i have amendments

lol

especially to number 4 lol

more to come

I am so sorry I have not posted about my amendments! I was DISing last night when a neighbor came BANGING on my door. One of my neighbors needed an ambulance and for some reason the neighbors thought getting the doctor neighbor (not me, but another neighbor) was more practical than calling 911. :confused3 They banged on my door to find out which condo the neighbor doctor was in?!

:sad2:

Anyway. That crisis took an hour or so to resolve last night and then I was done for the day!

The neighbor is fine, by the way. She just fainted, had a stroke?, something?! But she is doing fine at the hospital this morning.

Already we have the promise of amendments to the constitution? I love it! :lmao:

He he. No major amendments! But I might have to call on a lobbyist to help me get them passed? You up for that job?

Your Constitution is too funny!!!!:rotfl:

Maroo... I don't know what you are getting yourself into here. But I think you might have to eat your veggies this trip!:goodvibes

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. :rolleyes1 I have to eat my veggies. Bummer.

I agree, LOTS of tees! We already have a some ideas, but need to work on that!

LOVE your motto! WE have one for when we live here too- regarding when you find something that you can't get very often (like brown sugar or marshmallows) at the supermarket. "When in doubt, buy them out!"

I think we'd better sign it BEFORE we get there, or maroo won't even try to eat her veggies. She'll say she didn't sign anything.

Yeah, I figured those 2 clauses might be "mutually exclusive", but hey, I liked them anyway.

I'm sure she will, I can't wait to hear her squawk!!

OOPS!!! She just did! Ha, let the debating begin. Isn't that what our forefathers did when they wrote the real deal? I guess they perfected THAT art, and now get very little done! HA!

I'm sure this is just the start!

I thought you'd get a nice little insight into our character with this! I hope maroo isn't too freaked about my teasing. I'll have to be really careful to not give her any ammunition now, won't I?

I am not freaked at all... This is way too funny!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Love the Constitution. That is priceless. I am always in favor of anything that draws attention from my arm flab.:rotfl:

:rotfl:

Me, too! But I suppose if I ate more veggies, I would have less flab to crop out? :confused3

Although, I have been playing with Photoshop and I have discovered the "eraser"... This should make for a much more flattering trip report! (Just kidding!)

maroo I thought you would have problems on amendment 4. So, you can kill me for that one, not my mom. I was the 'brains' behind the clause. :rotfl:

Ah HA! The truth comes out!

Actually, it was a great clause!! It just needs a little.....tweaking. :thumbsup2

Anyway...I just wanted to post so that you guys did not think I have dropped off the face of the earth! I am still here.

But for some reason I actually have to WORK at work today. I was out yesterday. So...I gotta go work. But I WILL be addressing these amendments tonight! I promise!

P1 We, the Ladies of The Chosen 3, in order to form a more perfect vacation, establish childlike wonder and fun, ensure touring tranquility, provide for the common enjoyment, promote the general sense of satisfaction of money well spent, and secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our whims, do ordain and establish this Constitution for The Ladies of the Chosen 3.

Article I- Qualifications of The Chosen 3

P1 We, Ladies of the Chosen 3 must have a deep-seated sense of fun and adventure and an unbounded sense of wonderment waiting to be unleashed at all times, beginning with their journey towards WDW.

P2 They must be daring, to the extent that anything might happen at any time, such that as a handshake, hug, or even an impromptu waltz could happen with Pooh Bear without the slightest bat of an eye.

P3 Each lady must bear the name of The TC3 with the utmost pride, being a full participant in each laughable moment from the planning to the remembering!

P4 Each must also be extremely congenial, dealing with blisters, heat, rain, missed ADR's, closed rides, and any other expected or unexpected circumstance with grace and charm. (we are always like this anyway, so no worries-but in the face of war, one's true character is revealed)

Article II- Decision Making

P1 All major vacation decisions shall be made by The Chosen 3 collectively, with the understanding that any one of the parties can veto at any time by choosing not to participate.

P2 However, if one party member chooses not to participate in an activity requiring reservations, she must notifty the TC3 ADR coordinator in time to cancel without big deal ramifications.

Article III- Whining and Complaining

P1 Each TC3 Lady agrees NOT to whine, moan or complain (this includes eye rolling!!) about the plans that have been made!

P2 However, husbands, other family members, previously mentioned sworn enemies and other facets of our routine lives are all fair game!

Article VI- Grace and Understanding

P1 Each TC3 Party Member shall recognize that the others will have come for various reasons, motivations, and means.

IV. maroo agrees to eat her zucchini and cucumbers at each meal, or she must ride the tea cups twice in a row!

VIII. Soldiers #'s 1 and 3 will agree to accommodate maroo's obsession with the hot tub at least once or twice. But, I say a margarita by the pool afterwards baby!

XI. Belly laughs, tears of joy, random glasses of wine, and impulse purchases are all allowed, and in fact, encouraged.

X. No Soldier will withhold their meal from a food art picture. All must be properly recorded and goggled over.

Maroo, being sworn in to represent one third of the TC3, is hereby requesting the following amendments to the Constitution:

Ahem.

First, in Article I, Paragraph 3: Let it state the following:

Each lady must bear the name of The TC3 with the utmost pride, being a full participant in each laughable moment from the planning to the remembering and of course, trip reporting!

This adds the phrase "and of course, trip reporting!" to the aforementioned sentence.

Secondly, I propose we strike IV completely from the Obligatory 10 Amendments (which should be Commandments, right? with a little c, maybe?). This should be stricken from the record persuant Article IV, Paragraph 1, which states that we will have grace and understanding and during the UTLtWDW. ::yes:: This would also possibly violate Amendment (now commandment) I which expressly states there should be no flatulence in the domicile.

To replace Amendment IV, hereto forementioned to be stricken, should instead in it's place read:

IV. maroo is required to eat 4 veggies per day as outlined in the online weight watchers program under which maroo is currently participating. However, maroo reserves the right to strike, amend or otherwise disregard this article altogether without prior warning and without prior written notice!

This amendment is now being presented to the Committee and maroo has employed lobbyists who will help persuade, on her behalf, the Committee to accept these amendments in the Constitution. (ahem, TK.)

All in favor?!?!

AYE! pirate:

Quite frankly spoken, I am all for the maintenance of self through the imbibing and eating of a variety of foods good for the mind, soul, and body. With those particulars in mind, let us also remember that there is a time to...indulge oneself, so to speak. And though, we may want to better ourselves and our friends through such fine eating habits, we may also want to remember that we will be sharing a domicile with said friends. A domicile which could in fact, become most unpleasant, and could cause one friend to unwittingly violate one the of the constitutional laws! In order to maintain the sanctity of this sacred contract, I heretofore concur with Maroo.

This amendment is now being presented to the Committee and maroo has employed lobbyists who will help persuade, on her behalf, the Committee to accept these amendments in the Constitution. (ahem, TK.)

All in favor?!?!

First off, I'm not sure I can match wits with TK, who obviously has the panache for being not only an instigator, but also a very good, um what are we calling this role of BS'er?, litigator?? Hmmm....

Let me just add that although my skills are still not quite as good, I do have large amounts of practice "debating" with corrupt road police, immigration departments, tax department idiots, and bumbling house repair workers---- in another language. I can be pretty persuasive too; I haven't been in jail. Yet.

Okay all that being said, here are my comments....

Regarding very large Disney farts that are bound to "happen", let me just say, that I did reserve the balcony and bathroom areas for said offenses. Ladies (and the few very distinguished (NOT) gentlemen) that are reading along, they are going to happen; you can't eat at Caseys without that small (or not) side effect. I promise I won't rip one in a queue or anything like that, but I think our common abode must have some places to let loose.

But maybe as a consequence for letting one slip in the room the other should have to pay up a Mickey Bar- as a token of reconciliation to the other ladies. :mickeybar

Now, so that maroo doesn't have intestinal issues (if you were living here I'd roll my eyes- as in lame excuse) the entire trip, we'll let you off the hook. You are right, I concede, it would be questionably in conflict with Article 3 Pt. 1 But, I'm watching you Wazalski, always watching. I'm countin' em --4 a day!!! And... to appease our new lawyer friend here, I'll even let a Minnie's Strawberry bar count as one. But unlike our public schools, I WILL NOT let ketchup fly as one! Sorry!

In the same token, you'll have to count my strawberry or peach dacquiri as one then too. :lmao::rotfl2:

All in favor??

Yes, we are now down to exactly 14 months from The Invasion of Resort.

To mark this monumentous occassion we are promoting ourselves to the rank of Corporal. Why? Well, we are more savvy than mere Privates now, as we've done our research and graduated out of basic training.

Corporal also sounds better than Privates, anyway. Who wants to be asked, "How's your privates?"

So, there you have it. Each month we will be promoting ourselves- because it's our own trip and we have the right to, and it gives us fun "ticker" to play with.

By the way, for you purists, I did look up the rankings for the army, and there are way more than 14, so we'll just pick the best sounding ones, okay?

Some of you are really itching to know what we are going to attempt to eat during our trip. Here's the first of a series of sneak peeks of the snacks I'm dying to have. My motto (on some things) in life is "Why Wait?" So I am going to make a few now and share the yummy goodness with you. Please wipe your screens before and after for good hygiene.

At the very top of the list is frozen bananas. It is my favorite snack of all time for many reasons. The first of which is that it is one of my oldest memories of when I would go as a young child. I'm all over the nostalgia thing and really wish to Heavens they'd finish the Legendary Years of POP. Alas, it will most likely NEVER happen. Anyway, as GB puts it, I digress.

Besides bringing back memories of trips with Grandma and my family, they just plain old taste simply yummy on a hot day.

So, you start with this: (sorry, my pic turned out craptastic, but you get the idea)

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/PlainBanana.jpg
Here's how:

Take a big bar or 2 of chocolate. Use good quality. I chose dark, cuz it's the best!!

Keep your chopped nuts handy.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/Nuts.jpg

Peel, and cut the bananas in half. Stick a long skewer through them, and partially freeze them.

Over a double boiler, or over the lowest flame you can make, melt your chocolate. I use a double boiler, because burnt choco tastes vile.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/SpoonofChoc.jpg

Coat the bananas evenly, making sure that whenever no one is looking to lick your fingers copiously. Roll in nuts and stick back in freezer until frozen hard.

Enjoy! and count it as one fruit/veggie for the day.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/FrozenBananas.jpg

As a bonus, I've added a photo of a nice VEGGIE dish that we ate last night just before devouring the bananas. As far as I know, you can't get it at WDW, but maybe someone else knows better than I. Doesn't matter anyway, cuz, maroo won't order it.

BONUS!!! The Gazpacho That Started It All!!!
This is called gazpacho- a "soup" made of finely chopped veggies like cucumber, tomato, celery, green pepper, and good stuff like that, flavored with lemon juice, cayenne, Worcestershire, salt and all that, then chilled! It's super great with good bread dipped in olive oil and balsalmic vinegar.

Hey everyone.....

I got a PM from Liesa about my comment.

I was only joking around..... but after coming back and re-reading it I can see how there wasn't much of a 'funny' tone on my part. I should of put a ;) smiley or something else in my comment.

Please understand I was only kidding and was not offended in any manner.

OK back to the Constitution and the Amendments.

(please keep Article IV unchanged and intact!):rotfl:

Tim

I figured you were kidding! :) But I think Liesa was really worried that she had upset you and sent you running away from the DIS. :scared1:

I am glad you are back with us!!! :)

And :ssst: about Article IV....it should be changed, I tell you, changed!! http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/hammer.gif

Well, quite frankly, Maroo, I'm shocked that you're willing to give in so quickly! We can win this, I know we can.

I just feel that it's my duty as your lobbyist to have more information. How can I determine whether or not my client (Maroo) can eat that many vegetables today when in fact, I have no idea where in the parks you'll be eating.

DISH, WOMAN!!!! :rotfl2:

??!?! Did I give in?!? I thought she accepted the amendment? Do I need to get out there and lobby some more?

This is Bekka, not Mom...

Hey, it's always good to laugh at your self, as long as you are the first to start laughing. Otherwise, it can put you in a bad mood if your pride gets hurt. Always be the first to laugh at your self! (However, I don't care who laughs at me when I'm at WDW :goodvibes)

I am in a bad mood already this morning! But I was laughing at myself yesterday, right? :rotfl: I am about ready to sling up a few insurance companies! grr

Enjoy! and count it as one fruit/veggie for the day.

Now THAT is what I am talking about!

Although I hear that a large banana actually counts as two fruits? Is that true?? Any WW people out there?

As a bonus, I've added a photo of a nice VEGGIE dish that we ate last night just before devouring the bananas. As far as I know, you can't get it at WDW, but maybe someone else knows better than I. Doesn't matter anyway, cuz, maroo won't order it.

This is very true. There is NO way I would order that. :sad2:
