umm not quite.. it's 12:45 LOL

Mel stopped at the grocery store on the way home from work. While she was at the store she got called back in. So I was trying to wait up for her. I think she is getting out in 20-30 minutes. I don't know if I am going to make it. It takes her 20-25 minutes to drive home.

After a late night last night (My night out) and waking up with Juliana at 7am today I'm shot. Plus now that Mel worked late, she'll want to sleep in. So that means another early morn for me with the princess. Then tomorrow night our friends our coming over for a few cocktails... so I'll be up late again. Maybe I could fit a nap in tomorrow, I'm sure I could use it... but that means no update on my TR. I think I am ready to be done with it.:scared:

Yes, I'm certain there is. And all kinds of other fun places! The Farmer's Market is a fun place to hang out. I"m sure Cynthia would have loads of ideas too. Where is she anyway??

I'm here! Last night I was busy flunking mom of the year going ballistic on a certain childs progress report. Which apparently (now) is mostly incorrect according to the teacher (so why send it home and cause heart attacks? :confused3) so Eric got an earful for mostly..nothing.

I say mostly b/c a little fear and a little more taking things seriously and not being quite so lazy and frankly, arrogant, is not a bad thing for that little boy.

And then OF COURSE after beating up the recumbent bike to try and get over my complete freak out, I had to watch Donny win the Mirror Ball trophy. And V. Quality TV night at my house!

I have LOTS of ideas! for DISMeets around here and of course, as already discussed Great Wolf Lodge would be about halfway (though a bit farther for Cherie!). I am a bit concerned about your 'hood Liesa. Can you sell that house and buy elsewhere? Really good time to buy over here but selling...not so much.

I am in Portland at least once a year  my godmother/aunt lives there.

Cheesecake Factory at Washington Square (or Downtown Seattle, or Bellevue!) So many options....

Wow, Liesa, you are certainly dealing with some weighty issues. I know what you mean about wanting to know what the plan is - I am exactly that way myself. Heck, maybe we all are - thats why we spend so much time planning our Disney trips. Speaking of, I hope we can at least be here for you on the boards to provide some much needed escape! Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Liesa and fam!! I actually read your update the day you posted, and have been chewing on it a few days trying to come up with the right thing to say. I still haven't, lol..but..I think everything happens for a reason and things will go the way they're supposed to whether or not you agree that they're supposed to go that way. A bit cliche, I know, but also true. I am sorry you're having to deal with all that stress on top of what you deal with on a day-to-day basis, you're a strong woman, because I would prob be curled up in a corner somewhere. Poor kid! Ah well, a dose of reality never hurts! But how can a teacher make that kind of mistake!? OOPS!

Yeah, my hood stinks, but we'll have to make a move decision sometime after we get back, not from here. The economy changes all the time, so we'll have to see what's it's doing then.

I'm liking this DIS meet idea. Let's keep this idea brewing!

They are weighty, but luckily my DH is NOT one to make any quick decisions, so we won't be doing anything rashly. It's hard not to have a plan right now, but I trust whatever works out will be a good thing.

Glad I can have this one place to have some nice diversion and entertainment- a gel out place is a good thing!

Well, the pies are almost gone, the mashed potatoes and stuffing are neatly waiting to be consumed as leftover dinner tonight, and the riduculous amount of chicken we cooked is happily sitting on a platter to be turned into soup tomorrow. We had a great Thanksgiving!! Local and American friends joined us, we played games, and ate- a lot!

Thanks to all for your well wishes!

So, here's where we stand with all the upheaval. Thankfully (in this case) my DH is not one to make hasty, quick decisions, and as per last night's talk on the subject, he agrees, we probably will not make it out of here by June. He will be meeting with our area leader again next week at a meeting he needs to go to in the big city, so will be able to process more then.

Given that, I'm am just going with the plan to "stick with the plan". As I see it right now, as far as this trip is concerned things are still a go, with me heading back to the States in August to get DS settled in.

That also means that my solo POP portion is likely still on, yet remains the most tenuous portion of the whole thing. If we do not end up going to Thailand, then that portion will be off. I'm hoping not, but it's possible. Hopefully the POP won't be going POP!

Regardless, I will proceed as if nothing has changed and plan as I would have. Which brings me to the next installment of my TOP 10's- although, I will readily admit, the POP holds very little appeal overall. I honestly don't think I can come up with 10 things I really want to do here. So, I'll just list out the things I've found in others' TRs, guide books, and websites that sound fun, and you can add things as you think of them.

Here we go:

1) Take my picture beside my birthyear marker thingy on some walkway. Do you guys know what I"m talking about? Can someone explain where these are?

2) I want to eat in the food court.

3) I've heard that all the courtyards are super fun to explore and take pix in, so I'll do some of that.

4) I want to also check out the shadow boxes from year decade/ era and see which one brings back the most memories.

5) My trusty HM book will be my constant companion, so finding some of those will be fun.

6) I'll walk over to the Generation Gap Bridge and lament that they don't have plans (as far as I understand) to complete the section I would have chosen (the 40's).

7) Hmmmm... this is where I run out of steam. ?? Oh, yeah, I will definitely be wearing my tie-dye shirt from TK when I check in here. Maybe I"ll wear it when I eat some tie-dye cheese cake too.

Let me hear from you!! Anything I'm missing here?

jordanyosh
11-27-2009, 03:37 AM
You pretty much covered it.

The year markers are along Hourglass Lake.

I think most of the things to catch are the same things, but a different times of the day. I love walking along Hourglass Lake either late night or early morning.

Most of the large icons look different lit up at night.

All7OfUs
11-27-2009, 09:29 AM
Yeah, for me there just wasn't a lot to "cover". Maybe I just need to see it to "get it". I have a feeling that this part of the trip will be less at the POP than at other places that have more attraction.

That's ok, TG. There are only a handful of people that I know who've actually stayed there- at least who post over here. So, I may not get much help here. Jordan did come up with a great suggestion (a while back) that the 50s was the best section, but other than that, the whole thing with hardscaping just doesn't appeal to me that much. :confused3

But, it is the least expensive option...

After staying at a deluxe, I thought I could never go back to a moderate. I also never thought I'd ever stay at a value. However, I had a choice. I could continue to stay with my cousins in the Deluxe Villas, but sleep with kids and on a couch or I could stay at a value and have my own space.

After staying at Pop, I have to say. It is what it is. The rooms are small and not really decorated like a moderate or deluxe. However, the Disney Magic is still there. I have always had friendly CMs there and people make the difference. The Food Court, being the newest one on property, is easy to manage if you hit it at the right time. The food is good too. I was pleasantly surprised.

After POR and Poly, it will be hard for sure, but I think being solo changes everything.

You'll have a good time...

When all is said and done; planned and done up on spreadsheets; dreamed about and saved for; there are still a zillion little details that remain to be discovered and learned about at Walt’s World. When it comes right down to the pocketbook, one needn’t even have a park ticket to enjoy a great day on property; in fact, I think a great day wouldn’t necessarily even have to be tied to spending time in a certain resort. There is THAT much to do and explore.

I never get tired of the magic created by the Imagineers and all the details they throw at us in the form of textures, colors, kinetics, even down to the way a cast member says hello. The variety is endless, and never fails to transport me to a different world by means of background music, scents piped in, or props and décor. How can one get weary of seeing something new at every turn?

Given that built-up excitement, I have a list of some Must-Do’s that aren’t tied to a park or resort we are staying at- just general things around the World that I’ve already done and feel the longing to do again, or things I’d heard about and need to see for myself.

**I love the monorail! I really do! I want to ride it whenever possible, and actually enjoy the spiel that might drive others crazy.

**Last year I snuck away after the kids were in bed (before you call the CSD, my sister WAS there with them, what kind of mother do you think I am?) to watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach at the Fort. Cheesy?? Yeah, a little. Worth it? Totally!

**Can you believe I’ve never even stepped foot into any other resorts’ properties except the Poly and Wilderness Lodge!? That will have to be remedied. I’m thinking the best way to get this done is to make several ADRs at a variety of resorts to make sure it gets done.

**Along with item #3, I want to check out the shops and pools from those resorts. (I don’t mean pool hopping, just taking an amble around the lovely grounds of each and doing re-con work for future trips.)

**I think it’s no secret that the TC3 is making a MNSSHP a HUGE priority!! I can’t tell you how excited we are about this!! Will we be dressing up? YOU BETCHA~~ But what kind of crazy, goofy costumes can we come up with?

**A couple of installments ago, I mentioned that I am toying with the idea that I want to start looking into tours of various kinds. Cirque, although not a tour, is an extra “goodie” that we can tack on, but I’m also intrigued by doing the Garden of Eden tour (OK , it’s not really the Garden of Eden, but it sure comes close, I think), or maybe even a Segway Tour. The possibilities are driving me crazy with excitement!

**To make sure I place myself firmly in the uber-geek category of Disney Touron, I’m looking forward to planning out my outfits and accessories for each occasion. Bekka has been charged with the jewelry duties, and a few orders have been placed already for some new outfits. Merry Christmas to me. Mre on this later.

**Stealing a wonderful idea from TK, who I think actually got it from someone else (?), I am pondering what will be my trip’s “signature scent(s)”. More on this later too.

**Because I live where I live, I have become much, much more appreciative of natural beauty, and cognizant of the aesthetics of my surroundings. Therefore, I am (most of you won’t be able to understand or “get this” unless you lived overseas) looking forward (which is perhaps the most grossly understated thing I’ve said in this update) to walking on clean sidewalks free of trash and spit and mud; hey, just having a sidewalk will be nice in and of itself! I am almost ready to leak over watching people throw their trash away in a trash can, (I know there’s been increasing griping over this, but by in large Disney is a pretty clean place) standing in line instead of a mob scene of screaming people. In short, I need things beautiful, interesting, and orderly to look at!

**This place is reserved for your suggestions for non-Poly, non-POR, non-POP, non-DTD, and non-park things that you’ve enjoyed doing at WDW. What am I missing??

You'll have a good time...

So, you've been there 3 times. Sounds like you fall into "expert" category to me- so I'll take whatever you say, and put it into the good advice column.

I totally hear what you are saying; given the choice of "own space" or "sleeping with kids", I'd say it'd be an easy choice. And the whole bit about still "feelin' the magic" is just what I needed to hear. Granted I most likely won't be there all that much, but what time I am there, I want to be feelin' it.

If the circumstances were different, I'd have rather worked up from really great, to nirvana great. But it is what it is, and may not be at all.

I believe if you climb inside and up to the top of the Rubik's cube you can get some pretty cool pictures, it has a great view.

That's about all I know and it's second hand knowledge from MEK's TR!

Now that's what I"m looking for!!! Little hidden secrets like that, to do the unusual and fun.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving! It sounds like your family had a wonderful time! I love your plans for POP! I am sure Tim will have some advice for you as he was recently there but unfortunately, I can not be of much assistance as I've never been there!

We really did. I'll do something up on my blog on Monday, but need to get my photos downloaded to the puter first. You can even see what we wrote for our thankful things in our local language.

Tim hasn't been around AT ALL. I have no idea what's up with that. I hope everything's ok, and that he's just busy with the holiday and family and all kinds of great fun!

Anyway, hopefully we can all learn something fun and new about the POP as people pipe in about what they've found interesting.

Hooray for tie-dye! what the heck are you going to make me make for you to wear with a tie-dyed t-shirt?? what kind of jewelry did hippies wear? :confused3 little help!

Hmmm.... hemp me thinks. with wooden beads. Oh yeah, and mood rings. But personally, I was not in the hippie generation. So, can only go by pictures and movies.

We really love monorail Resort hopping. We'll start at the Contemporary and work our way around to the GF. We'll hang around in the lobbies..check out the Resorts..then find something to eat/drink at that Resort and soak it all in. :goodvibes

I love having adr's at different resorts, just so I can check out a new place.

We stayed at POP on our first visit and loved it. Of course, we were wdw virgins so we had no idea how nice the moderate and deluxe's were. But we really enjoyed it.

Whew, I just spent all day reading off and on catching up. I was so far behind I just picked a page (100) and read from there. Just want to let you know that my prayers are with you as you wait on Him to see what or when your next move is going to be. I too love Monk and is sad that it is now over or almost over. I wasn't able to follow it this season which makes me sad as this is/was the final season. I want to go to Nashville for your Dis meet. I love to travel and am up for anything. I do follow your blog and wanted to say that I love the quilt you made that is on the head of your blog. Looking forward to the next round of adventures with your group of soldiers.

1) Take my picture beside my birthyear marker thingy on some walkway. Do you guys know what I"m talking about? Can someone explain where these are?
Didn't do this
2) I want to eat in the food court.

3) I've heard that all the courtyards are super fun to explore and take pix in, so I'll do some of that.
Didn't do this either
4) I want to also check out the shadow boxes from year decade/ era and see which one brings back the most memories.
Forgot this one as well
5) My trusty HM book will be my constant companion, so finding some of those will be fun.
Nope, missed this
6) I'll walk over to the Generation Gap Bridge and lament that they don't have plans (as far as I understand) to complete the section I would have chosen (the 40's).
Yeah... didn't get to it
7) Hmmmm... this is where I run out of steam. ?? Oh, yeah, I will definitely be wearing my tie-dye shirt from TK when I check in here. Maybe I"ll wear it when I eat some tie-dye cheese cake too.
Now this I DID do - the cheese cake, not the shirt!
Let me hear from you!! Anything I'm missing here?

Wow, after reading this, I see that we really did not explore our resort much AT ALL. Although, in my defense, it did pour buckets 6 out of the eight days we were there. We pretty much ducked and ran from the bus to our room. We did enjoy the food court and the gift shop several times though. I think being on your own, you will be able to stop and experience the little details without all the rush rush. Its definitely a fun place.

I love your idea of touring the resorts. I like to do that too but my trips are never long enough. This trip I did stop at AKL though. It was gorgeous I think you should add it to your list. The boardwalk is fun too. Also at beach and creme (or something close to that) it would be fun to attempt to finish the kitchen sink. I don't recommend this on a single say though.:rotfl2: Disney also has the best mini golf courses.

That's what I"m talking about! Just soaking it all in, grabbing a bite to eat, taking some photos, all that!

if you get the chance, go to the boardwalk in the evening and just grab a bench and enjoy the view. Nothing. Like. It.

OK, so tell me about the Boardwalk. What is the atmosphere like? How does it compare to say DTD? Shopping- any not-to-miss stores? Do tell.

I love having adr's at different resorts, just so I can check out a new place.

We stayed at POP on our first visit and loved it. Of course, we were wdw virgins so we had no idea how nice the moderate and deluxe's were. But we really enjoyed it.

Most WDW virgins have no clue, and I think that's ok; just whets the appetite for more, and gives a general feel for the place. Our first times we stayed at the Fort, and even that was cool, but now, I want to climb out of the playpen and toddle around a bit more-

Whew, I just spent all day reading off and on catching up. I was so far behind I just picked a page (100) and read from there. WOW! Welcome back! I thought I'd lost one of my regulars, and was very sad! I saw on Saturday, that you had posted on someone else's and wondered what I had done to scare you off, then lo and behold, you had posted over here just after!! Hooray!

Thanks so much for your thoughts as we work to sort things out. Decisions like this tend to test family relationships, so specifically pray for that!

GREAT!!!!Another Nashville go-er! Very excited to have you join us! As we get closer, we'll make sure all the details are disersed widely and well in advance.

As soon as I get the fabric I ordered for the border of that quilt, I am going to get it finished and up on the auction block it will go, to to speak. Hopefully, it will pull in enough money for the next group of ladies who want to learn how to quilt over here, and a little extra for my trip.

Glad to have you back, post liberally, I always say! :lmao:

HATE THAT!! Rain that is. We got rained out the first part of our trip too last year; it sucked! So, don't blame you at all.

You know me, I'm all about fun, so glad to be staying at a place that speaks fun to so many!

Unfortunately, I agree. A trip has to be long enough to be able to do that, cuz, frankly the parks to trump the resorts with touring time- given a a choice. That's why, even with long trips, well, for me at least, I need the ADR's to sort of force myself there. I don't want to come home this time, with a "ahhh, I wish I'd done the resorts more" theme running in my mind.

The Boardwalk doesn't necessarily have any shops that would be that different than any other resort shop. It does have the Wyland Gallery, but so does the Poly.

It's the atmosphere that is most attractive. No other place has so many resorts in such close proximity. The view of the Beach Club/Yacht Club is so nice or better yet walk over and grab a seat on the beach at the Beach Club and enjoy the view of the Boardwalk.

Come ready to snack. You can grab some Nachos at the ESPN Club then head over to Seashore Sweets on the BW or Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club for a malt or some ice cream.

If you go on a weekend night, then they have performers out on the Boardwalk. During busier times, they are out more often.

I love the Boardwalk area.

OK, now we're talking! I love nachos, and can easily seeing myself doing this!! The big plus is that I can check out that whole bunch of resorts at the same time. I haven't ever gone even close to any of them, and what better way to do it than to grab some grub and go!?

Here we go:

1) Take my picture beside my birthyear marker thingy on some walkway. Do you guys know what I"m talking about? Can someone explain where these are?
They are near the lake. They have the year and a important event from that year that has to do with Pop culture. It is fun to read through each one.

2) I want to eat in the food court.
This is a surprisingly good food court with so many different choices.

3) I've heard that all the courtyards are super fun to explore and take pix in, so I'll do some of that.
We didn't even make it to all the sections to get all the different pics. You have to do this during the day and at night too!

4) I want to also check out the shadow boxes from year decade/ era and see which one brings back the most memories.
Really cool! There must be close to 40 of them.

5) My trusty HM book will be my constant companion, so finding some of those will be fun.
Naturally! ;)
6) I'll walk over to the Generation Gap Bridge and lament that they don't have plans (as far as I understand) to complete the section I would have chosen (the 40's).
We never made it onto the bridge.... but I have a picture of it! LOLOL
7) Hmmmm... this is where I run out of steam. ?? Oh, yeah, I will definitely be wearing my tie-dye shirt from TK when I check in here. Maybe I"ll wear it when I eat some tie-dye cheese cake too.
Yes.. try the cheesecake. It is pretty good!

Let me hear from you!! Anything I'm missing here?
1. You can hula hoop near the RAC... right outside the door near the check in desk.
2. You can have an adult cocktail at Petals.
3. You can do the twist in the food court at 8am or the hustle at 5pm.
4. There is always shopping to be done at Everything Pop. There is a big selection there.
5. Play Twister in the 70's section!
6. Get a good spot in the 60's section on a high floor. You can see Illuminations from there.
7. Pool hop in all 3 Pop pools.
8. Play a video game in the arcade. (OK now I'm grasping for straws here LOLOL)
9. Make a new friend!:flower3:

Here are a few ideas for the POP portion of your trip.:hippie:

Welcome back!!! I know you were in the middle of moving- which takes ever so long! Don't worry, we aren't going anywhere :)

Thanks for the welcome back! See - I announce my comeback and then disappear again. I think, I hope, I am back. I really miss the DIS and my DIS friends.

Thanks goodness I stopped by today for the first time since my last post - I definitely do not want to be de-commissioned!

Liesa -:hug::hug:. I know everything will work out okay. Portland for a little while is understandable but then the East Coast is required! ;) Tell DH it's your turn to pick locations.

I do truly want to catch up on this TR and a few others - I do have thoughts on POP and more. I would also like to do a mini-TR from my trip. One day at a time as they say!

Missing you all and sending hugs and prayers to you and your whole family Liesa!

Hmm.... :cloud9:

Given that built-up excitement, I have a list of some Must-Do’s that aren’t tied to a park or resort we are staying at- just general things around the World that I’ve already done and feel the longing to do again, or things I’d heard about and need to see for myself.

**I love the monorail! I really do! I want to ride it whenever possible, and actually enjoy the spiel that might drive others crazy.

Me too! Me too! Me too!!!

**Last year I snuck away after the kids were in bed (before you call the CSD, my sister WAS there with them, what kind of mother do you think I am?) to watch the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach at the Fort. Cheesy?? Yeah, a little. Worth it? Totally!

Totally cheesy. And I so want to do it!

**Can you believe I’ve never even stepped foot into any other resorts’ properties except the Poly and Wilderness Lodge!? That will have to be remedied. I’m thinking the best way to get this done is to make several ADRs at a variety of resorts to make sure it gets done.

Great idea! :thumbsup2

**Along with item #3, I want to check out the shops and pools from those resorts. (I don’t mean pool hopping, just taking an amble around the lovely grounds of each and doing re-con work for future trips.)

I am tellin'!!!!!!!!

**I think it’s no secret that the TC3 is making a MNSSHP a HUGE priority!! I can’t tell you how excited we are about this!! Will we be dressing up? YOU BETCHA~~ But what kind of crazy, goofy costumes can we come up with?

Oh man...we so need to start planning this! You do, for now, live halfway across the world...how are we going to coordinate costumes?!?! This is going to take some battle planning to accomplish. We need a mission. A plan.

Hm. I love the idea of Cirque...but not so wild about the Eden tour? But Segway sounds fun.......

Jewelry? Is this mandantory for all TC3? If so.....Bekka needs to hook me up for Christmas! I have no jewelry.

**Stealing a wonderful idea from TK, who I think actually got it from someone else (?), I am pondering what will be my trip’s “signature scent(s)”. More on this later too.

Can't wait to see how THIS turns out.

Wow. You really do need a vacation.

**This place is reserved for your suggestions for non-Poly, non-POR, non-POP, non-DTD, and non-park things that you’ve enjoyed doing at WDW. What am I missing??

?? I have no idea!!?!?!?!

How could it be any worse than bra strap pluto (or was it goofy being well, ummmm, "goofy"?)

:rotfl2:

Okay, Leisa, I'm here. I promise to read all 100+ pages when I get home from work tonight and join in on what looks like a great time. :)

Don't let the introduction freak you out! IT's just a ruse to make people think I know something about the military and history. Well, actually, I do know a little history, but the military stuff is author's license stuff. You get the picture. I"m thrilled you've been lured to the dark side.. muahaha!

Post freely, my friend!! and farting is allowed- on the balcony.

As I laid awake the other night in bed trying to sleep, and being pretty unsuccessful, which is becoming more and more of a routine problem, but that which makes for some excellent trip planning time, I found myself reminiscing on our very first trip 9 years ago to Disney World.

I thought it would be an interesting exercise for you, my highly esteemed Peeps, and actually for myself as well, to chronicle those first memories and impressions- for you, because some of those memories are both entertaining, and I think for those of us who consider themselves either well-seasoned or well-researched aficionados, it can serve as a reminder that not everyone in the parks on any given day (in fact, I’d venture to guess very few, in fact) have the foggiest idea about the depth of character and potential Disney property has. Most, I would venture to guess are just like we were: tourists who, on a whim, pop in at the last minute, with not a clue, nor a plan. (For me, this kind of drivel gives me something to do at 11:30 on a night I wish I could get some Ambien.)

Contrary to what some may think, having no plan or clue is not always a bad thing. For us, just going with the flow and experiencing that wonder of first impressions was exhilarating. A trip to Disney, unless you are in a totally unshakable bad mood, really can’t disappoint. Even without a plan or knowing diddly squat about anything there, one will still have a plethora of sensory input and delight, likely run into rides accidently at the very least, parades, Streetmosphere, fireworks, the ubiquitous shopping and well everyone’s gotta eat. Heck, even the bathrooms at Disney World can be entertaining.

On the other hand, as much as going for the first time can whet one’s appetite, it can also serve as a source of frustration, as you will see shortly from my memories. I am one who hates the feeling of backtracking, and of having that underlying sense of “there’s got to be more here”. That trip, as wonderful as it was for us, taught me some valuable lessons in trip/travel planning that I still use today.

So, without further rambling, I give you “A Mini-Trip Report” embedded into a gargantuan Pre-Trip Report, whose idea I deftly stole from Great Biscuit, but who clearly had the upper hand in memory retrieval concerning former forays into Disney Nirvana. Unfortunately, I suffer from Brain Snatching Syndrome brought about by my own children (discussed at length earlier in this thread), so you’ll have to excuse my advanced case of CRAFT. (Thanks for that proper diagnosis, Sandy!) My memories are VERY foggy from this trip, mostly because we had just attended a week-long pre-field orientation with our agency. We had spent the entire week right after New Year's, 2000 going through a myriad of stressful interviews to determine everything from our financial fitness to our marriage soundness. We had met with a psychiatrist, a medical doctor, and taken a bunch of Bible knowledge exams. Let me just way it was grueling. A 4-day stay at anything Disney sounded wonderful!! Stay tuned as I take you on a "Newbie’s Tour of the World- Clueless Style".

Rank these...

You gotta put them in order from the one you MOST want to do to the one you LEAST want to do...or is the least important...

We have done this before...but I don't think we had all of the options....

And it is a hard list.....and will cost an arm and a leg......:cool2:

Cirque - La Nouba
YeeHaw Bob
Spectro/Wishes (on the same night)
MNSSHP (just one time)
MNSSHP (twice, if offered)
Watch Wishes from the Poly Beach
Illuminations
Fantasmic
Night AK (AK EMH)
Night MK (very late EMH - till 1 AM)

You don't even have to think about which ones are offered on which nights...I am already playing with that puzzle...but I am curious...what do YOU guys think....

Rank them...

Here is my list...but don't peek....I put it in white...

1. Wishes/Spectro (but I can skip it...I will be back...:rolleyes1)
2. Cirque - the more I look at this, the more I want to go...
3. MNSSHP (just once)
4. Watch Wishes from the Poly Beach
5. Night EMH at AK (this only lasts till 8:00 and can be paired with another)
6. Night EMH at MK
7. MNSSHP (go twice) - I would LOVE to do this...do we have time??
8. YeeHaw Bob - I want to see this...it is just a hard list
9. Illuminations - can you believe this is NINTH?!!?!?!

2) Illuminations (I've never seen it, can you believe it??)
3) Night MK (I can't wait to do this in 20 more days!!! There's something magical about the parks at night.)
4) Spectro/Wishes (I've seen Spectro, but I've never seen regular Wishes in park. (I've only seen Hallowishes) I've only seen it from the Poly/Cali Grill.
5) Fantasmic (Loved it in 2006 chose not to do it with the kids this time because of the wait.)
6) YeeHaw Bob (Sounds fun!)
7) Night AK (AK EMH) (AK is my least favorite park...)
8) Watch Wishes from the Poly Beach (I've done this so it's far down on my list.)
9) MNSSHP (twice) (loved it, but I'd rather spend the money on something else than repeat it.)
10) Cirque La Nouba (Just doesn't appeal to me)

Mom, are you planning on making me share as well?

All7OfUs

Wow! This is a hard one. Some are easy, I"d just toss them out with the carrot and onion peelings. Others are like a good steak cooked on the grill; but unfortunately, you've put in some shrimp withthe steak which is equally good. (Am I the only one who really appreciates those combo deals at restuarants?)

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to offend anyone with my answers (:lmao:--- as if I've ever worried about that!), but I can see this bunch is wildly all over the board! Some are, in fact, topsy turned! All these options, given the fact that they are at Disney are better that an evening watching a free movie in the Walmart electronics department. So, if I have to do all of them, well, I guess I could live with that :rotfl2:. But with careful planning, I think we could, like Tim said.

I must tell you, I did NOT look at your list. So without further sleep deprived blather (puncuated with inane nonsense) here is mine:

1. MNSSHP- once is top priority
2. Late night at MK. All I need to say. Caseys, Main Street, The Mountains at night.
3. Yeehaw Bob. I am pretty excited to see this "on-fire" guy, who obviously loves his job, and is actually successful at Disney. Most reviews I've read say that the crowd is pretty tame and there aren't too many drunk rowdys. I hope that your experience was an isolated one, Kathy! Again, this shouldn't be too hard to fit in, since on many of our nights, the parks are closed by 8:00.
4. Late EMH at AK, should be totally doable!!! I think it ends at what? 8:00?? Anyone can do that and STILL go to a TS dinner afterwards and be in bed by 10:00.
5. Cirque. LeeAnn saw it in Portland, and still talks about it! She says it was amazing!
6. Spectro/Wishes. Never seen Spectro. Main Street Electrical music makes me cry still, brings back some amazing memories. But, even with that one, I wouldn't have a nervous breakdown if I didn't see it at all. Wishes I do want to see at least once. But Hallowishes is higher on my list.
7. Wishes from Poly Beach; dibs on the hammock!
8. MNSSHP- twice, might be more that I am geared up for. Although, it does sound fun. once for rides, and parades. once for characters and villians mix and mingle.
9. Fantasmic! Even though I haven't seen it, it's still not super high on my must do list. It'll have to be left to a game time decision.
10. Illuminations (sorry, this was just lame. I totally don't get the ball thing, and I don't agree with the "one world= everyone will be happy message")

Yeehaw Bob is a performer who does a one man show over at Port Orleans Tues- Saturday nights. His act is a piano show that is highly audience participatory and guests sing all kinds of familiar tunes along with him, and he throws in some corny jokes and such. From what I read the crowd is fun, and since he's a guy who takes his faith seriously, he keeps a clean show.

Sounds like a nice, sit-down way to end a long day in the parks. Here's the links to his own website and another website I found about his show: You'll have to cut and paste...

2) See Yeehaw Bob in the River Roost Lounge. I’ve been looking forward to this for a very long time!! Here are both his website:

http://wdw4christians.wordpress.com/...erside-resort/

and another that explains more about his show and the venue he plays in:

Let me start at the beginning, which is heavily relevant to the telling of this tale. Early on when we had found out about our going to Orlando for our “job interview”, my parents concocted a strange idea that it would be “fun” to drive from Portland, OR to Florida in their gigantinormous motor home. If picture of Chevy Chase and “Vacation” are now swimming in your brainly data banks, please don’t let me stop you.

Yup, Grandma, Grandpa, my children (I only had 4 then) aged 8, 6, 4, and almost 2, and myself, piled into portable box of fright for a cross- country jaunt. I don’t remember much about the drive, except that we stopped in Laughlin where my Gt. Grandparents had a winter home. I spent New Year’s Eve in a casino- that was certainly a new experience (and ummm, one I didn’t mention about our interviews a few days later). I remember losing $20 in quarters in about 4 minutes (Cheesy Winkers!!!!, those machines are hungrier than my 18 year old at midnight), watching him make about $6,000 at blackjack and sipping champagne in the Penthouse. The whole affair was weird.

After restocking our cache of mac cheese and Schweppes ginger ale, we set off again toward the east. Texas was, no offense to all my Texan friends out there, well, flat and pretty darned uninteresting. Maybe I was looking all the wrong places, but I-10 was just very dull for 2 days. I’m pretty sure thought, it was somewhere in Texas that we “camped’ in a truck stop for a night. There have been a few times in my life I’ve gotten the heebie-jeebies. This was one. I learned two things that night. Truck stop food is horrible and you really stand out when you have a birthday party for an 8 year old in a Pilot Café. Leaving the land of enormous beer guts, and barring the door with several crowbars and a shotgun or two, we laid there awake listening to the sound of generators for hours.

The next day, we eventually made it to Louisiana where the roads are bad, and the feeling is most definitely “Southern”. I cannot describe this, so I won’t try- other than that it was about as different from Portland, Oregon is from Calcutta. We stayed in Downtown N.O. at some crappy drug dealing haven, which might have been mistaken for a campground by my parents. We did manage to unhitch the car and take a turn about the historic district. Is it just me or do the above ground graves creep anyone else out? I remember getting beneigts at the Café du Monde, the place that’ famous for them, and doing some browsing in a street market where my son HAD to try alligator jerky. He said he liked it.

Safely back on the road again (yes, I meant every letter of “safely”) we made our way not over hill and dale, but through swamp and over bridge. I think it took us 8 or 9 days total to get to Orlando. We did some other fun stuff along the way, but the highlights I’ve penned here for you. My mother’s nerves were completely fried- she was a wreck! Whatever pipe dreams they had of a “one big happy family cross-country trip” were slowly eaten away and replaced with a resounding, “What the Hell were we thinking?!” I think it was on this trip that my mother re-discovered Valium. Not that my kids are naughty or misbehaved, but they are kids. Parents tend to forget what their own children were like (us), and they pass an easy judgment going into that whole spiel of walking to school in the snow uphill, both ways, etc… Let’s just way they were ready for a week off from us, and we from them.

1) MNSSHP (just one time) I would love to be able to go to this or MVMCP
2) Cirque ..Pretty even with MNSSHP for me, it would be a toss-up.
3) Spectro/Wishes
4) Night MK (very late EMH - till 1 AM) Fun after dark!
5)Fantasmic.. Have heard so much about this, really looking forward to it.
6)Illuminations
7)Night AK
8) Watch Wishes from the Poly Beach
9)MNSSHP (twice)
10) YeeHaw Bob.. I have no idea what this is, so it really doesn't rank, lol.

well, ok here goes

1)night AK
2)wishes
3)Yeehaw Bob
4)night MK
5)MNSSHP
6)wishes for beach
7)cirque
8)MNSSHP (twice)
9)fantasmic
10)Illuminations

Mom, are you planning on making me share as well?

I just thought these were so interesting!!!

It seems like there are lots of things you either love or really don't care for. I am amazed at where Cirque ended up on everyone's list...usually high up or far down. :)

Just wanted all of these in one post. :)

And mine and Liesa's....

10. Fantasmic (I don't care to see this at all)

Now...to see Liesa's and LeeAnn's....and the rest of you guys...weigh in! :thumbsup2

We are DEFINITELY going to try to fit all of this in...assuming that we can afford it all...

BUT...I forgot ONE!

Hoop Dee Do review!! But we have already decided we want to do it...now it is just to fit it all in....

Liesa - where would you rank Hoop Dee Do?

The reason I am asking is that I am not sure - with the schedule of YeeHaw Bob, Cirque, MNSSHP, Fantasmic...that we will actually be ABLE to see all of them...I think we can get most of them in...and definitely plan to pair some of the up...YeeHaw Bob pairs up with AK, if we want. As does watching Wishes on the beach. etc...

But it is truly a puzzle. Especially since we don't actually have the REAL schedule for MNSSHP or Fantasmic.

We are trying to get a budget together...and to do that...we sorta need to know what things we may be trying to fit in during our trip.

I feel like we should blow it out. There will never be another trip like this. I am sure that Liesa will only get one chance to do Disney with no kids. So...I say...let's go for it and try to fit it all in...budget be darned.

What do you guys think?

You know I've always wanted to travel cross country in an RV. Really. Now I know why my parents never caved to that request.

Great storytelling.

The above ground graves are creepy, but imagine coffins all stinky and moldy and gross from the high water table...even creepier and nasty too.

MNSSHP (just one time)
Illuminations
Cirque - La Nouba
Fantasmic
Night MK (very late EMH - till 1 AM)
Night AK (AK EMH) (MUST RIDE EE IF YOU DO THIS)
YeeHaw Bob (I'd go see him just b/c he is called "YeeHaw Bob!"
Spectro/Wishes (on the same night)
Watch Wishes from the Poly Beach
MNSSHP (twice, if offered) (OK, can't see the point of twice)

LOL! Ok, I actually kind of liked those graves. In a creepy Anne Rice kind of way. I actually love NOLA. But yes, it is about as different from Portland (and Seattle) as...I don't know, Calcutta seems a stretch!

We did some cross country camping trips as a kid but never got further west than Wyoming up north and New Mexico down south. I'm not sure what it is about cross country power drives like the ones you describe (which I've done as an adult) but somehow it always seems to end up in bad campsites and scary truck stops. I think once you think about it as a place to crash, versus trying to find a place to stay that has merit on it's own...you run the risk of sleeping on the lawn at a rest stop in Montana and getting bit on the eyelid by a mosquito.

1. MNSSHP (just one time) - in my opinion, the best party offered at MK
2. Spectro/Wishes (on the same night) - these are a must see
3. Night AK (AK EMH) - i've never been but i've seen some absolutely gorgeous pictures of AK at night. this is a goal for my next trip. and i hear that riding EE at night is awesome.
4. Fantasmic - my second-favorite nighttime show behind wishes. when mickey saves the day and starts shooting off fireworks from the top of the mountain, i just get goosebumps and all teary-eyed!
5. Watch Wishes from the Poly Beach - i saw a video of this last year and it looked really cool. plus indulging in a lapu lapu during said event is always a plus.
6. Night MK (very late EMH - till 1 AM) - you can get a good bit done during this.
7. Illuminations - i know i'm in the minority here but this is my least-favorite nighttime show. it's still wonderful, just not high on my list.
8. Cirque - La Nouba - i can't speak from firsthand experience as i've never seen it but we were gonna do it in 2008 and after i looked at the ridiculous prices i decided against it.
9. MNSSHP (twice, if offered) - i love this but i don't think it's worth it to do it twice in one trip.
10. YeeHaw Bob - since i don't know what this is, i'm putting it last.

(Cheesy Winkers!!!!, those machines are hungrier than my 18 year old at midnight)

Is it just me or do the above ground graves creep anyone else out?

they don't creep me out but i'm just weird. i learned during our last trip to savannah that the reason for the above-ground graves is that in the 1700's people used to go to graveyards on sunday after church and dine on top of the graves of their loved ones, so they used them as tables. and if you weren't seen in the graveyards on sunday after church, you were the subject of all sorts of negative gossip.

great start so far! can't wait to hear about the rest of the adventure.

Hoop would be about 6 or 7, since I"ve seen it before. But it is fun; although more fun with kids, I'd say. But fun nonetheless (sangria sure doesn't hurt), and the food is pretty good.

Yes, we do need to start putting some real #'s to this adventure- all good militaries make, then break, their budget!! :lmao: Throwing caution to the wind, let's break the bank.

I'm sure there's quite a history to be found on those graves, if one were to look past the creepy factor.

By the way, welcome back. Going now to see if you posted about your smoochy kind of weekend.

It certainly was. In fact, I remember a lot more from the road trip than I do of Disney.

It will be twice as fun, cuz you'll be in twice, no 3 times, a smaller vehicle. We could at least visit the crapper on the road, and make sandwiches on the move.

Yes, we all certainly did. And I fear we're about in the same boat now. WOW! The "other side of the table" was an intensely intimidating lot back then. I wasn't one of the itimidating ones! I worked for HCJB World Radio when I was in college and used to help out with all of the activities during the week long interviews. I usually did fun stuff like dinners and such rather than the "bear thine soul for inspection" type things.

If picture of Chevy Chase and “Vacation” are now swimming in your brainly data banks, please don’t let me stop you.
Actually I was thinking RV with Robin Williams.

Texas was, no offense to all my Texan friends out there, well, flat and pretty darned uninteresting. Maybe I was looking all the wrong places, but I-10 was just very dill for 2 days. Having driving all of I10, I have to concur. It's not our most exciting stretch of road. Don't get me wrong, I love me some San Antonio, but hours of nothing in between towns is a bit much.

Well then, the only "good" thing about doing a trip in an RV (if you really must) is that you can be free to puke anytime you'd like. The bathroom is most convenient.

Poor thing. That must travelling pretty tough!

Yeah, TP on cacti cracks me up every time. Every time, being once or twice.

Rebekah also, in her ever observant way, pointed out that I called Texas "dill". Did anyone else notice that??!! It might be "dull" there, but never "dill"- that is for pickles, and cream cheese. Which, too, is an odd combo- kind of like Texas and dill.

When I was a kid we used to go to Maine (from VA) and back, or to FL, but those can both be done in under a day if you push, and two days easily. The nice thing about RVs though is that you can sleep comfortably. Though with 4 kids along, I bet you guys weren't doing too much of that either! I have to say, the TV in our house turns to the Lifetime, LMN and Hallmark much too frequently for my tastes, BUT I'd rather watch with First Lady Biscuit than go putter somewhere else. So, I've learned to tolerate them. Although I must say they're pretty much all the same, just differnt takes. There's the "Jilted housewife" theme, the "Someone is dating the wrong person and realizes at the end who their true love is" theme, the "I want my kids back" theme, OH and my personal favorite the "Innocent female criminal" theme. And it seems that somehow they all feature Morgan Fairchild, Crystal Bernard, or Signorney Weaver.

When my DH left 3 days ago for the meetings in the big city (I'll bet you were wondering why I have been on so much the last few days- after tomorrow, my posting blue streak will slow way down again) he took a big box of American Girl doll stuff to sell. Well, it's been a wonderful evening, my friends. Once again we've filled up an entire several hours with mindless pratter- and I"ve loved every minute.

DH comes home tomorrow, so it's the end of a streak. I'll catch you in the mornings though.

Meantime, here's a great recipe for salad dressing using radishes:

Using a blender, on med. speed, blend a bunch of radishes with some buttermilk- I use about a 1/2 cup. Throw in some salt, freshly ground pepper and a little parsley if you have it around.

Blend til smooth.

Remove from blender, then mix in by hand enough mayo until it is the right consistency to your taste. I'd say about 1/4- 1/3 cup. Lastly, throw in a big handful of fresh, snipped dill. Stir and serve with a green salad.

You're responsible for any side effects you may encounter.

Dad would NOT be voted out because he sits there with you watching the whole thing, and he makes up his own script. the new and modified lines go something like this- "Whilloughby! Why didn't you reply to my letters? Didn't you recieve them?" "oh, well you see, I only actually recieved one, and before I could reply, the aliens came down from space and took me away" He did this when he read the Hobbit aloud to us, and poor Bilbo visited the aliens more than once. I'm not joking, he really does do it.

Thank you guys SO MUCH for praying for Rachel...

Host of errors last night kept me off the DIS for over 12 hours.

Lost my computer cord...battery died...then got to work this morning and had WORK to do. What is up with THAT? Our internet was also down here.

Must be the cold weather.

Anyway...Rachel is not feeling well.

She is at home...not at the hospital. They will do everything they can to keep her out of there...the last place she needs to be is in the hospital. They even scheduled the Xray so that she does not have to wait in a waiting room.

It is scheduled for later today...not sure what time. And don't know how long it will take them to get the results...

They have been VERY serious about her avoiding pneumonia in the past. The doctor has said numerous times that pneumonia could kill her. I have no idea why?? Her lung capacity is already really low.

My guess is that they would do IV's if she actually has pneumonia. But that they will do them at home. Hopefully keep her out of the hospital.

THanks for praying!

Great news and bad news.

Great news is that Rachel is clear of pneumonia. She has antibiotics now for her bronchitis (which is chronic now that she has fluid in her lungs) and she is cleared for DISNEY! She may have to do 4 breathing treatments a day, which will need to be planned, but that is wonderful news!

Meanwhile...Ellie - the 4 year old going on the trip - DOES have Pneumonia. She went to the doctor where she lives - because she has been sick...and she has it. So...you can add her to your prayer list. It is "walking" pneumonia and she is now on antibiotics...so hopefully we are getting all of the sickies out of the way!

Mrs Potato Head says a hearty good morning to all our Peeps on this gray, wet day in Stink-a-Stan. She wanted me to tell you all about our fun evening we had last night at:

The Russian circus.

:dance3:

Now before you go and get grand, fairy plum visions of dancing bears and Lipizzaner prancing horses let me just burst your bubble now. Ok. Now that you are thinking more of muted fun, we're on the same level.

This was a 5 man act; 3 men and 2 women. That's it. They sold the cheap plastic crap from China before the show, set up the stage props- AND were the act. That was my first clue that this was a small time deal. Lady #1 was a dancer, hula hoop hooper (which was by far my favorite act of hers), doggy trainer, parrot keeper, and helper to Mr. Amazing Feats Man.

Lady #2 was suspended hoop contortionist (sort of), helper to Mr. Amazing Feats Man, and a dancer.

Mr. Amazing Feats man was a glass walker, sword walker, dancer, magic trick maker, and prop dude.

The other 2 guys were the clowns who juggled (I admit I was pretty impressed with this!) did your requisite fart humor, (oops, now that I think about it, THIS was my favorite act of all, and thought of all of you, wishing you could be there to share these golden moments with me.), inuendo stuff, that I wish they'd have left out since my kids were there, and water gags.

There were also guest appearances from a huge snake that my daughter still brags about getting to touch- she thought that was the coolest thing ever-, a parrot, 2 dancing dogs, and a monkey. When the parrot flew over us, I was more than a little thankful that it didnt' poop on my head, and was disappointed at the monkey thing, as we've seen the real deal in Thailand. It's more fun to see them not a chain.

It wasn't a bad deal I think for $50 bucks for 4 front row seat tickets. We get to see one about once a year here, and we enjoy it every time. Small town stuff, yeah, but better than sitting at home. Plus it reminded me of the possibility that Cirque really is going to be a reality for the TC3 in Sept. maroo and I sat up til 3 in the morning the other night talking all about our trip. We got a bunch of scheduling stuff worked out, and GUESS what?! We're leaving a night open for this! Whooopee!!! :woohoo:

I like Montreal but some of the people really can be rude. I am glad that I have someone fluent in "their" French to go around with me. A lot of them can speak English but refuse to just to give people a hard time. Once we went to to the movies and a fight broke out in the seat next to me because the group of Jewish Montreallers(is that a word:confused3 there is a large Jewish pop. there) who were speaking English were "bothering" the French speaking peopleon the other side of them.:scared1: The French ones were yelling at the English ones and it was really just awful. Hooray for Cirque! Or at least leaving a night open for it, lol. As for your Russian circus, believe it or not we get one somewhat similar that comes through here..more like 20 people total, but other than that the same kind of deal. They sell the souvenirs beforehand, then you see them performing, etc. I took Piper one yr, and we got up and left when they started whipping the elephant for not doing what they wanted it to.(which was an ooooooold elephant..I felt so bad for the poor thing.) At any rate, I'm glad you guys at least get some entertainment out there that doesn't involve your own planning/implementing!

I read an article recently that the Russian govt. is trying hard to entice it's performers back from Cirque as there's been a mass exit in the last years. I said to myself, yeah right, like the Russian circuses can come even CLOSE to the salary that Cirque probably pays. Gimme a break...

It's interesting how something we wouldn't pay a cent for here is totally worth it where you are. Again, I love seeing things from a different perspective. It gives us here in the States NEW perspective.

Cirque is making it onto your maybe list!:thumbsup2

Better sick now than on the trip! Hope it all clears up by then and there are no major surprises or setbacks.

I am sorta out of pocket all day.

Three things....

1. SARAH IS HOME! Totally a surprise and a bit of a long story. But she is home!

2. I now have bronchitis. I went to get a regular checkup today and it was actually found on blood work (high white count) and my chest was "rattling" - he did a chest xray because it sounded so bad. :confused3 I don't really feel all that sick - but have been running fever off and on for weeks, tired and have a headache. So hopefully that will take care of my funky fever.

Tonight I actually started feeling sick. So...I am so very thankful I went to get my regular doctor check up and that I have such an awesome doctor! He found it quick and 2 shots and 10 days of antibiotics - I should be well for Disney, too!

3. It SNOWED!!!!!! I know you folks in the north don't think that should be in all caps...but I was excited. It barely stuck to the ground...and it is just beautiful! Hopefully pictures tomorrow if it is still there when the sun comes up.

PS...I really, really want to go to Cirque! I think THIS is the trip for it, too!!

How can it be that yet another month has passed us by?! Another month of anticipation, waiting, yearning... One more lunar period of wondering what delights and fun await us.

Each passing month brings us closer to our long pined-for trip, and to mark these special milestones we do a little self-promotion. Not in an arrogant, self-righteous manner mind you; rather in a light-hearted, fun sort of way- that of proclaiming for ourselves a higher military ranking. Afterall, you do remember this is a highly trained, well-run troop of ladies on a QUEST FOR FREEDOM!

If you will recall, we spent the last month being Sergeant Majors- the highest ranking of enltisted military personnel. Let me just tell you right now, we are so done with THAT! We want empowerment, I say!! This month we're being COMMISSIONED!!! That's right. This month we are officers!!! Better pay, better housing, and ACCESS TO THE OFFICER'S CLUB! Grey Goosies all around. Or Lapus if you prefer... (or Diet Coke if you'd rather be the designated tour guide)

I found the following decription of our new ranking quite appropriate! Take a look:

(Addressed as "Lieutenant")
A seasoned lieutenant with 18 to 24 months service. Leads more specialized weapons platoons and indirect fire computation centers. As a senior Lieutenant, they are often selected to be the Executive Officer of a company-sized unit (110 to 140 personnel).

First of all, it was almost exactly 18 months ago, that I approached the" no-longer" Soldier, Julie, and the "still going" Soldier, LeeAnn to accompany me on this Epic Quest. Not long after, I called up Mary, and so it began. A year and a half ago!

Secondly, it mentions "computation centers" . You may find it rather interesting that maroo and I spent many long hours this week talking over our schedule, and "computing" up a more nailed down itinerary. Excel is a great tool to hash out the details. But the definition also talks about "indirect fire". That my friends is reserved for the balcony- or for anyone who tries to cut in front of us while waiting for Spectro- in which case it will NOT be very "indirect fire" at all. It will be a blast from our most crafty Casey's weaponry array.

Specialized weapons? The TC3 is adding more ammo to our arsenal everyday. I ordered a few clothes from Penny's this week, Bekka is working on the bling, gifties have been cheerfully crafted, and financial backing has been added. We are becoming an army of skill and precision- and we're gonna look GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Picking up where I last left off, it is time to give you an idea of my first impressions of Florida. Having never been there before , I had no inkling of what to expect, except I knew for certain there were alligators and snakes to be found. Believe me when I tell you, I searched high and low for them every chance I got. I never did see one.

Our week of "job interviews" was spent near the Orlando Airport at a lovely little campground called Lake Whipporwill KOA. If you ever have a need to camp in the Orlando area and are looking for a clean, family-friendly place to hangout, AND support a "good cuase" at the same time, you will always be welcome at Lake Whipporwill. I think even Jordan would give the "comfort stations" a high enough rating.

During our week at the KOA, I noticed some peculiarities about Florida. Although it is gone now, the KOA used to sit beside and orange grove. Having had fresh squeezed OJ each morning, I can attest to the fact that FL grows some mighty fine liquid sunshine. I can also confirm that Florida grows some of the largest and scariest roachy-looking things ever to roam God's green earth on 6 legs. These beasts of lore and fame- the ever-present Palmetto Bugs- were everywhere in plague proportions! I remember thinking that Moses was possibly calling down the 11th disaster on Narcoosee Rd.

Lastly, I can also say for certain it can, and does, get butt-cold in Florida. The last day of our interviews was 1/2 free. The kids and I wanted to swim in the lake ( I guess I wasn't too afraid of alligators until the 2008 trip (see post #1 in the "Crazy" trip link below))!! NO WAY!! It was like 40 below, and so windy the white caps made the lake look like it was frosted with buttercream icing. I should have clued in right there that I had woefully under-estimated the weather for our excursion to Disney World. It would be an expensive oversight not long after this foiled day of fun.

Sometime during this same week, I don't remember which one, we had a free evening. The conference coordinators put together a list of fun stuff to do around the area, but being that family was with us, we opted to head out with them and do our own thing. My grandparents had come into town to see us for the day, and we were happy to do something fun with them. My dad had heard about this "place" called Downtown Disney, so he suggested we head over there to see what it was all about. I'd never heard of it before, but just having the word "Disney" trailing at the end of it made me happier than an alligator seeing feet dangling from the surface of a lake.

Ten years ago we were tightwads; well, truth be told we were poor tightwads, so we ate what was "free"ly provided at the Base before heading over to DTD. There would be no Earls, no Fultons, no Raglan Rd. for us. But there would be magic.....

The pic of your DDs are too funny. She is a Peep in Training! OR a PIT. ;) :goodvibes

It IS hopping over here. My Motto: Fun Above All Else.

I do the same thing on Jordan's. No offense, there brother. I interject when I can, read the updates, and am always, always amused at the directions these things can go when left to those in the hood.

PIT!! :lmao:

Good morning, Leisa. Sorry I've been missing in action. Just very busy -- baking Christmas cookies and cleaning over the weekend; stuck on the train coming home from work last night for 45 minutes past our scheduled arrival time (which put me in a really bad mood--and got me home just in time to tape the Carrie Underwood special); and today going to see the boss who is still home ill and it's snowing -- 3 to 6 inches predicted through tomorrow night.

Hope all is well in your end of the world.

I'll risk one more post before the Grinch Who Stole nightime posting appears.

Glad you're back posting after a crummy day at work (and on the way home from work!) Send cookies.
