Geez....

I'm gone for the morning and this thread BLOWS up!!!!!

AK- For those of you who don't want a slushy try this--> Yak Attack - Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi Light Rum, and Wildberry Flavors

You can find it at Y&Y quality beverages, which is to the right of Y&Y CS.

Mmmm... that sounds wonderful! Very refreshing and "adult".

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I woke up and got on. Almost as surprised as when I couldn't log on, and now I can't multi-quote... :confused3 The only thing about to blow up is MEEEEEE! :headache:

I love all your top ten! What in the world do you have against FW? See? Even the smilies agree with me.
I can't believe Nemo made you cry. I love that show!
The goodies you made for them turned out so cute.
I when you kept changing the name for Maroo.

NO! Don't get me wrong!! I love FW, just not nearly as much as WS, or AK. It's next. Really! :goodvibes

Yeah, I'm a big sap. I love the Father/Son relationship in Nemo- I think it's so touching that Marlin would go to the ends of the earth for his little child. Love that!

Thanks! I worked on them some more yesterday, and LOVE how they turned out. I'll post pictures soon, and kick maroo off again. :lmao:

(sandy is sooooo sweet! we had a great meet at ohana's with some other ladies from the disappearing peeps thread, a weight loss thread we were both part of...except it was SO LOUD in that place it was hard to talk to anyone!!!)

My pimped out report is 3 months further along than yours- You're going in Dec. right?

Sandy, I heard from a little birdie that flights are pretty cheap right now to Nashville- you'll be looked for at the CHEESECAKE FACTORY!! ;)

Shall I also mention that there's always room for more ladies to join theTC3?? Uh, hum...:rolleyes1

Tim that's just a bit further down the road from Flights of Wonder - and the road I take to get the Lemon Slushies - I may have to detour to try that Yak Attack!!

and I have never seen the Nemo show... We did see Tarzan before it closed...

The bats are interesting Southwest flights look like they are $54 one way - not too bad!!

Isn't it funny how Sandy has this photographic like memory when it comes to tasty, sweet concoctions? :lmao:

I can't wait to see the bats and did you say there's no glass in between us and them?? That's extra cool becuause we can get closer!! The bat exhibit at the Portland, OR zoo has glass and you can't hardly see a thing! boo!

At $54 you NEED to be there!!! (or better yet... :rolleyes1)

As for the bats......
I was at the portland zoo in march and you could see through the glass a little too clearly. After a minute of watching them my sister and I realized it was full on mating season in there! A bat orgy was going on in front of us and before I could get the kids out of there Hunter asked me what they were doing....about 2 seconds after he got that question out...his eyes about popped out of his head and he looked like he was going to puke.

Just to prove to myself, and all of my most wonderful peeps, I thought I'd start off your morning with a most-fantabulous preen-the-screen multi-quote! Isn't it cool?!

My laundry had to be brought in to dry as it's now too cold to dry outside. Yes, we're back to arm flab discussion.... :scared1: So, my entryway, if you were to come visit me, would be graced with 3 loads of clothes hanging on the rack like prayer flags around AK.

"It's the wave of the future, the wave of the future. It's the wave of the future; it's the wave of the future, the wave of the future, the future, the future..."

Sometimes I feel as messed up as poor Howard. It mostly happens in bed at night, when I muse about our trip next September, as if it were as important as deciding whether to put zippers or buttons on the seat fabric inside and airplane. Over, and over, and over: which ADR when; which order to tour the parks; which mode of transport is best from any given place. Most of the time, I give up, and end up right around Day 2 mid-afternoon, not having gotten any further than I did the night before. It's like Groundhog Day or something much worse.

I thought I'd sneak in one more update before too much longer; it seems the right thing to do, the right thing to do, to do, to do...

Future World for me, has some cool things in it, but honestly this area of WDW just takes more effort from me to enjoy it. Whereas MK, WS, and AK are "easy" for me to relax in, mostly because of the layout, landscaping, visual and kinesthetic values, it just takes less energy for me to "get it".

Most of you know technology scares the living snot out of me. Not because I CAN'T figure most things out, but it takes so much time and effort for me to do so. Owner manuals, shop talk lingo, I just don't get most of what I hear, so I don't listen.

Having said all that, there are some things I really can and do enjoy in FW. Not because I understand them, but because of their high entertainment value. Seriously, who doesn't love going 65 miles and hour with the top off?? Of seeing 10 pound lemons?? That to me is just nifty!

So, here they are; the TOP 10's for FW done Soldier #1 style:

1) Watch a whole song's worth of Fountain action at the Fountain of Nations. I have one of the tracks on my IPod, and I do declare, it is one of my favorite tunes of all time!

2) Stop and smell the roses, literally, in the rose garden.

6) I can't help it, I live me some Figment- farts and all. I find it hilarious that a purple dragon-like thing lets loose in a Disney attraction. What can I say? He must have eaten at the Cantina on his way home.

7) I'm looking for a particular hidden Donald Duck that I think I may have discovered. I found it on someone else's TR, clear as day, but want to photograph it to confirm before I say more. That by the way, would be at M:S which I will ride in some form- depending on the time of day I can.

8) I don't know why I didn't put this as #1... SSE has got to be the single most awesome thing FW has going for it. I love everything about it, and can't wait to laugh hysterically at the go-go lady.

9) There is a butterfly garden behind the bathrooms near Mousegears. I want to hang out there for a spell and see if I can get a nice shot of one.

10) Something I don't LOVE, but that has become tradition is running into the Jamitors. They're pretty funny, but this trip isn't about loud! If I see them great; at least I can tell the kids I saw them, and can take their picture.

That's it. Oh, yeah, I might have to cruise the giftshops and catch some more silly hat shots. Just for fun.

Oh I'm so glad the multi-quote angst is gone! A house draped drying laundry is bad enough.

Unless your kids still make tents.

Wierd that an update would do that though....I agree, call Chloe next time.

Funny you should mention that... they just made a really awesome one and actually slept in it--- all night---- on Monday.

I should ask Chloe to join our team. She could figure out to make the tax office see things my way (this one, not the IRS. The IRS is like my wunderkind compared to this mess!)

YES!!!! TK is back!!! Just a minute, I need to do dance a little jig. OK, I"m back. Of course, you can jump right back in, and the links on page 1 should help your quest of reading the meat, if you choose to.:banana:

She was the Super Duper Mondo Cyber Genius Ultimate Hacker Cracker on the TV show 24. She was like the MacGyver of all things electronic. She could pull up top secret files while stirring her coffee, tap into survelance video without breaking a sweat, reprogram a pocket watch to launch a nuke. In short, she was a true Geek's Geek.

Gotcha!!! You're basically saying that she's my antimatter persona. :confused3:rotfl2:

Never seen it, but some folks over in the capital city have lots of seasons. I should ask to borrow them when my son comes home for break.

I know! It's a frightening thing!! I learned some valuable things today while DISsing.

I can fix multi quoting by playing with a lot of buttons and hoping I don't permanently screw something else up whilst doing so.

I learned who Chloe the uber goober geek is.

I learned that Kaleo the singer at the Poly will be no longer. Okay, I must admit, I am really, really saddened by this!

AND, I learned that winkers doesn't mind being expicit or exploited, or exemplified or exonerated. I could actually scroll down, and see what you really said, but nah, we'll leave it at that.

I think she was comparing the laughter of a 10 year old to the mating dogs. Did I miss it?? And can someone tell me how this went from BATS to dogs? OH yeah, right, something about glass.

Future World!! :cool1:

1. the land - if you love it - then I would consider doing the Backstage Tour - its like $12 and is so very enjoyable (maybe on your solo day?)

2. SSE - when you come "out" there is a WHOLE lot of techno machines- wait for the one that you have a skeleton in an operation game style - the others are too much work! (like floor hockey - dd enjoyed running around with dh tho!)

Ok...I did not understand ANYTHING you just said above?? :confused3

I did not read these when I did mine...

1) Watch a whole song's worth of Fountain action at the Fountain of Nations. I have one of the tracks on my IPod, and I do declare, it is one of my favorite tunes of all time!

Aw! Great one!

2) Stop and smell the roses, literally, in the rose garden.

Another great one!

3) Ride the Land boats. It is my fantasy garden...

This was on mine! :)

4) Have a chat with Crush. He's my number 1 pal at The Big Tank

Yeah...I talked him up SOOO much for Lucas...and he was not on his game when I was there...so I need to see it again!

5) Ride Soarin' . I'm not making this up, but when it flies over the orange groves, that is literally going over my house where I grew up. I can spot my street!!! How cool is that?!! (That scene is in Hemet, by the way). I had a good friend who had a grove that grew for Sunkist.

That is the coolest thing EVER! I love to ride this over and over!

6) I can't help it, I live me some Figment- farts and all. I find it hilarious that a purple dragon-like thing lets loose in a Disney attraction. What can I say? He must have eaten at the Cantina on his way home.

Great. He farts?! Oh well. I will still go see it. :)

7) I'm looking for a particular hidden Donald Duck that I think I may have discovered. I found it on someone else's TR, clear as day, but want to photograph it to confirm before I say more. That by the way, would be at M:S which I will ride in some form- depending on the time of day I can.

No way! A hidden Donald Duck?!

8) I don't know why I didn't put this as #1... SSE has got to be the single most awesome thing FW has going for it. I love everything about it, and can't wait to laugh hysterically at the go-go lady.

ur...what is SSE????

9) There is a butterfly garden behind the bathrooms near Mousegears. I want to hang out there for a spell and see if I can get a nice shot of one.

Are you serious!?!?!? I LOVE butterflies! Love them, love them, love them! I need a map to this...Rachel's family loves them, too!

10) Something I don't LOVE, but that has become tradition is running into the Jamitors. They're pretty funny, but this trip isn't about loud! If I see them great; at least I can tell the kids I saw them, and can take their picture.

Another one...what is this?

how cool is that???? awesome.

i'm one of those really odd people who just don't LOVE soarin'. don't get me wrong - i enjoy it. i think it's a cool ride. i just don't salivate when i talk about it like some people do. there's nothing wrong with loving it....i just don't. :upsidedow i would definitely never wait over 30 minutes to ride it. but i've never had to do that - i've always gotten a FP for it. i will say that riding in the first row does make a HUGE difference. the first time we rode we were in the middle and i will never again ride it there - there's something about feet hanging in front of me that distracts me so much that i can't enjoy the ride!

4. Mission Space. And I *may* try the spinny side this time.

might i suggest 2 things:

1. no matter what, look straight ahead at the TV screen in front of you. don't close your eyes or look to the side because that's when you get sick.

2. take non-drowsy dramamine about an hour before you ride. i did and i felt fine afterwards.

when we got off that ride DH and i were both a little wobbly, but it was funny more than it was nauseating. oh, and i do believe that's the only ride i've ever been on where there are barf bags provided for you. when we got on and get strapped in, ray (my DH) looked down in front of him on the "control panel" and saw a package of barf bags. he just looked at me and pointed and i said, "yep, just in case."

I like your top 10 for Epcot.

I agree with Sandy321, naps are great on Ellen's Energy Adventure. If the benches are too hard, sleep on the floor. I've done it and it's much more comfortable than the seats.

The other area to lounge would be the hallway behind the Character Connection. It's always cool and since there's not really anything there, it's usually pretty empty. There are only one or two benches but the carpet isn't bad.....

Be sure and spend some time (and money?) in MouseGear.

and really get your camera ready because its now interactive at the end - then you get to go into the fun room with computer type games - :cool1:

See, there's lots to love about future World! But no, I get what you said about not caring for the ambience. I don't know why I like it so much (or Tomorrowland) because I am not typically into a modern aesthetic. I guess because the 'modernness' of Future World and Tomorrowland is so dated, that it seems nostalgic in its own way to me. Like thats what we thought the future would look like back in the 70's. Very oddly appealing to me for some reason:confused3

Some of my favorites in FW:
-Soarin' of course!
-The background music
-The fiberoptic lights in the ground
-Living With the Land
-Spaceship Earth - miss Jeremy Irons but love the new games at the end
-Club Cool
-The fountains on the walkway to World Showcase
-Universe of Energy (good memories from my first trip when I was 12)

In a way I agree as at all times, while I notice, it is a peripheral thing and it's really almost an afterthought. Treking through any of the parks from one end to the other is not easy, in Epcot you know beauty is just around the corner so it makes it quite palatable. I do find myself power walking here (as well as at DHS) though to get to where I am going, versus the MK and AK stroll.

I hope to slow it down this next trip. Even though we will have some newbies, I don't have the "stress to impress" like I did on the last trip! In fact these newbies would prefer to stop, stroll, notice the details. So Liesa, tell me about Donald BEFORE you go!

i'm one of those really odd people who just don't LOVE soarin'. don't get me wrong - i enjoy it. i think it's a cool ride. i just don't salivate when i talk about it like some people do. there's nothing wrong with loving it....i just don't. :upsidedow i would definitely never wait over 30 minutes to ride it. but i've never had to do that - i've always gotten a FP for it. i will say that riding in the first row does make a HUGE difference. the first time we rode we were in the middle and i will never again ride it there - there's something about feet hanging in front of me that distracts me so much that i can't enjoy the ride!

might i suggest 2 things:

1. no matter what, look straight ahead at the TV screen in front of you. don't close your eyes or look to the side because that's when you get sick.

2. take non-drowsy dramamine about an hour before you ride. i did and i felt fine afterwards.

when we got off that ride DH and i were both a little wobbly, but it was funny more than it was nauseating. oh, and i do believe that's the only ride i've ever been on where there are barf bags provided for you. when we got on and get strapped in, ray (my DH) looked down in front of him on the "control panel" and saw a package of barf bags. he just looked at me and pointed and i said, "yep, just in case."

So, we have dramamine instead of a margharita??

Yeah, I do know what you mean about people hanging in front of you. It's hard for me to keep other people's feet off my view.

Noted. Floor best for naps. I always do that on the flights back- well at least until they yell at me to get my seatbelt back on. Hate when that metal thingy pokes in my back though. Didn't used to. 10 pounds makes quite a difference in floor napping comfort.

SSE = Space Ship Earth!

and really get your camera ready because its now interactive at the end - then you get to go into the fun room with computer type games - :cool1:

However, I think that's why there is always a line outside when we last went... How long ago was that?? years!

I think some redneck photos will be an integral part of our trip. :rolleyes1

That is very cool! :)
I think so!

Is that Gazpacho? Yummm!

IT IS!! Score for you!

In a kitcshy sort of way, it is kinda nostalgic. Kinda like My Favorite Martian stuff.

Some of my favorites in FW:
-Soarin' of course!
-The background music
-The fiberoptic lights in the ground
-Living With the Land
-Spaceship Earth - miss Jeremy Irons but love the new games at the end
-Club Cool
-The fountains on the walkway to World Showcase
-Universe of Energy (good memories from my first trip when I was 12)

Yes, the little twinkley lights are so fun!

The interactive game is a definite improvement for the ride down in SSE!

I almost forgot Club Cool. But remember when it was "Ice Station Cool?" I loved that!!! So, so sad they changed it!! That icy tunnel was the BOMB!

Space Ship Earth! :scared1:

Another stupid error that might get me voted off the DIS island!

:faint:

I can't believe I didn't know that one!

Of course...SSE is a MUST.

Although, I refuse to take either Lauren or Rachel on that ride...I have seen the stairs in there...and heard about how often that sucker dies...and I just can't see carrying either Lauren or Rachel down all of those stairs! :sad2:

Can see your point here; probably not the best one to take them on!! that would be a big job to get them off!! NO THANKS!

Great advice!

I think I will get some Zofran for this trip and just take it just in case. :) Even non-drowsy dramamine puts me in snooze land! Unless...I could take some, ride/sleep on Ellen's and then ride MS! :)

:lmao: Bring some for me too! Wouldn't want you to have to carry me off SSE! :rotfl2:

There are so many things I love about FW. The theming, not so much. The layout, not so much. The hike back to WS? Not so much.

But...Test Track, Soarin', SSE and MS all make it worthwhile!

Especially if I get to do them more than once.

It sounds like there are some new cool things cooking there that I can't wait to check out though!

Especially the long walk back to my personal fave, WS!! Seems like about 4 miles!

Getting there early is the key, for sure!!

I"ve heard rumors too. Will be interesting to see what they've got planned!

I agree. But I don't know. For some reason, Epcot, both FW and WS, have this draw for me. I don't really think to myself while walking through FutureWorld.."Gosh, no detail" I don't know why that is. I notice the lack of detail at other theme parks...

Hmmmm.... There is detail, but for me, it's just takes so much more effort to find it. At FW, I actually have to look for it!!

I REALLY want to go during Flower and Garden though one of these days!

There, Cynthia said it better than I ever could. Thanks!!

OK. I will , but not until my HM's post (I have several actually- noticing a trend here?)

Me too. I also want to do the Food and Wine....

I agree about Power walking through Epcot....

ME too. Wish it was starting before or during our trip, but the timing just didn't work out this time... ah well, another reason to get back.

Figment is our family mascot....goes well with the motto of flatulence forever.;)

See how well, we'd get along!? :lmao:

PLEASE do yourself on the 24 and make him bring all of the seasons back...at least through Season 4. Those were the best! Even the end of the season has a cliffhanger!

I will be willing to provide Zofran to all of the TC3 soldiers! I consider it necessary equipment for our journey!

F & W start later in September. It was almost a full three weeks after I got home from last Labor Day week trip. :)

I will be glad to help you get off SSE in the event of a breakdown! :scared1: I may have to call the Fire Department! I think they actually do have to call the Fire Department if someone with a disability gets stuck up there.

Of course, Lauren would LOVE to have to be rescued by a cute fireman! :firefight

She got rescued by a life guard once and was both mortified and ready to do it again! "He was SOOOO cute!" But that is a whole 'nother story!

I just told our area leaders, who are coming on the 18th (therefore won't be DISsing that day) to bring Monk and Numbers. I've only seen a few episodes, but Monk CRACKS. ME. UP!!

The Sherman Brothers wrote the fabulous original for Dreamfinder and Figment. I am still beside myself about the vandalization of the cool original ride that first took out Figment, then put him back into a much less cool ride. I still ride every time, out of loyalty to the little purple fellow, but worry that the ride is now so lame that they'll do away with it entirely.

I never had the opportunity to see the original version, so really can't compare, but have heard from so many that it was the FAR, far superior of the current offering. Sad that they are getting rid of so many of the "classics" (the new Tiki Room is a sad excuse of an attempt in my opinion), and now I won't even have a chance to see Kaleo at all (still bummed at that one!)

Maroo, Sorry, I have to ask you to go get more Diet Coke now. Just get up, go to the fridge and grab a cold one- you can't be here right now...

Love you but... ;)

OK, now that she's gone, I wanted to show you a few more of the gifty things I have made up for my touring comrades! Things are really coming together for this project I have going, but a bunch of stuff I can't get yet- well, really not until just before leaving.

Here is the first of the little coasters that I've gotten done. Other than Mickey looking slightly like he's on crack (ie. the zigzag stitching that makes him look "fuzzy") I think they turned out pretty good. Next time, I'll use a blanket stitch around it, which may make him look like a Mickey pincushion. :confused3

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/miscfromcamera.jpg

The gift tags I made are done with an artform called "quilling". It originated during the Middle Ages, and was primarily used to decorate pages of Scripture done by the nuns and monks in monasteries. It is not nearly as difficult as it looks, and over the years, I've done lots of fun projects with these narrow strips of paper. I"ve done up one for each of my compatriots:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/leeAnnsgifttag.jpg

The next thing I made for each of them is a little book that they can use for ANYTHING their big hearts desire: autograph books, trip journaling, phone books at home, photo album, whatever...

Here is maroo's:

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/maroosjournal.jpg

I tried to keep all of our books (I made one for me too ;)) in the same color scheme and with my (very) limited supply of good scrapbooking paper, I tried to use designs that captured the adult essence of our trip. I may (this is still very much a MAAAAAAAAY) throw in a Mickey sillouette on the inside cover, but I'm tending to think I'd rather keep this usable for any occassion.

Here is maroo's gift tag on her opened book. I majorly screwed up the binding holes, but it isn't too noticeable, thank goodness!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/maroosopenbookwithgifttag.jpg

I think I had gone so long without using my Zutter Binder than I'd forgotten how to line up the punch. I'll do better when I bind up LeeAnn's.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/LeeAnnsgiftset.jpg

So, here is a group shot of the goodies done up so far, sans the coaster. I still need to do LeeAnn's LGMH, and will put the orange stitching around both, along with the purple ribbon that eandesmom sent over. So still some work to be done there.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll305/All7OfUs/maroosgiftset.jpg

Other ideas I have to fill in these fun little baskets are:

Little chocolate bars with the Blank-a-Stan flag as the wrapper design
Bath salts or something like that.
Some nice coffee or tea
Some beaded earrings or a necklace that Bekka is already working on
Beaded pens to tie onto the books

So, my plans for that are coming together, and I"m having more than a ton of fun planned for them. I think I"ll put my mom onto the task of finding some cute baskets or other appropriate kind of container. I'm thinking dollar store?? Even the Goodwill has some great baskets for an excellent price.

Let me hear some of your ideas for something fun to throw in. The idea here is not to get expensive. Everything you see I already had, was done from left over scraps, was well, practically FREE- which is a very good price!

The only thing I can think of that might be cute is a beaded Mickey head pin, you could do black or lime and you could do them the easy way (string the seed beads, then form the design and glue it as you go) or the hard way..lol (use peyote stitch). If I think of anything else good you could do with the materials you have at hand, I'll pm you :)

Love the gift ideas! I am going to swing over to one of my favorite scrapbooker's websites and see if she has any good ideas you could add to the baskets. Have a great Sunday!

What about something like this:
http://songofmyheartstampers.typepad.com/.a/6a00e554f4a3a488340112791e771d28a4-800wi

There are some parts that are made with a die cutting machine that you would need to cut by hand (assumng you do not have said die cutting machine and die). But the rest is relatively simple. I made these a few months ago and they are easy. Instructions for making it are here (http://songofmyheartstampers.typepad.com/song_of_my_heart_stampers/2009/03/top-note-acetate-flip-albumand-free-big-shot-class.html)

If you're bored and have a lot of time on your hands, something like this with a Disney theme would be fun to make!
http://songofmyheartstampers.typepad.com/.a/6a00e554f4a3a48834010536688ff3970c-800wi

These little albums are my personal favorite to make, but you need clear envelopes and I don't know if you have access to those. If you really want to make them though, I could purchase and send them to you.

http://songofmyheartstampers.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/09/12/dscf0830.jpg

I just realized what a bad pic this is of an awesome project. Essentially, it is a photo album made with 2 colors of coordinating cardstock and a printed paper on the front. Then 10 (or more) 4.5X6.5 clear envelopes (like the kind you find specialty greeting cards in) are in the middle.

Love the gift ideas! I am going to swing over to one of my favorite scrapbooker's websites and see if she has any good ideas you could add to the baskets. Have a great Sunday!

What about something like this:

Love these a lot! But am woefully low on cardstock. I found some online at AMazon, and have heard the folks are having good luck getting them to send to a "shipping address that is different than the billing address" AND a bonus is that most packages are making it to the owners at the correct address- without being pilfered!! Amazing! 3 years ago, we would never have dreamed of ordering from a company and havign them ship it.

Long story shortened, I will probably place an order for some cardstock today, but will have to see if they have the grommets?? Didn't look for those. Thanks ever so much for the sweet ideas. I am a huge scrapper (mostly just albums, but I also do flip calendars that I was hoping to sell someday) but will have to save those bigger projects for another season in my life.
:woohoo: CONGRATS BECCA

(love that you chime in!!)

There is no "sleep well here" too much worrying going on... :rolleyes1 Its a mom's lot in life!!

Stef oh my goodness!! with that post, and all that Cynthia is giving us... I am so not worthy!!

My neck has gotten sooooooo bad over the weekend that I spent most of Saturday movie night with a Coke bottle filled with hot water under my neck. It hurts just to sit. Darned bulging discs!!! Mary, I hate to tell you this, but if things dont' get better in that area, there'll be no RnRC for me.
:upsidedow

That is one of the Enemies favorite lies to women. Don't you ever believe it!! You are worthy- He made you so. In fact, you are so worthy you are called a Daughter!! Now, go forth, and be "Sandy"!!

Very cute gifties, Liesa! What a sweet friend you are - plus its always fun to have an excuse to get creative:thumbsup2

That's the ticket!! I do like to "get creative", and honestly, I have so many quilt tops done that I needed to switch mediums for a while!! But now I'm out of cardstock, so it's back to quilting. I have a bug to start something Christmassy, but in a very cabin-esque style with trees, cabins, I don't know, something in forest greens and browns and muted reds... If I only tie it (rather than quilt it) I think I can actually finish it before Christmas.

IN my 3 trips into the World of Disney Utopia, I've only spent about 3/4 of a day romping in the playground called Disney Hollywood Studios. Honestly, even the name itself causes much consternation, as smack dab in the center of my 2007/8 planning, Disney management found the ultimate method of confusing is patronage- changing the name. Perhaps they were short on boardroom giggles.

Regarless, even to this day, DHS holds some sort of tweaked, but only partially unfounded bias. Growing up near Anaheim, we were diehard Disneyphiles, we never stepped foot into Universal. It was regarded by ALL of my family and freinds as a place only Yayhoos went to in order to cause mayhem and act obnxious. We were told that the theming was tacky, the rides lame, and the ticket cheap- for good reason. I'm sure very little, if any, was founded in truth, but being sheep (and diehard Disneyphiles) we never succombed to the entering of its gates. I probably missed out on a great time. Nevertheless, the stigma, however unfounded it may be, still lingers in my thinking.

Fast forward- 2001. Planning for trip #2. There was none. And I do mean NONE. But that's getting ahead of myself. I am hoping to tuck a mini-trip report into here, hopefully starting next month; so you'll hear all about that comical foray into lands unknown. For now, suffice it to say, we knew nothing about where we were going!

We had 4 days to wisely use our time. We didn't go with PHs (but back then, I"m beginning to remember that perhaps everything was PH?), so we had to be careful with our alottment. Do we do DHS? or no? We went in 2000 blinder than the 3 mice, and because we were going with those blind preconceived prejudices, we shunned DHS as if it carried Swine Flu. Why would anyone go to a place that even remotely resembeld U.S.?? That's what we heard it was like. Besides, my kids were little; they were more than happy to ride the teacups 35 times, which we probably did.

Come 2007. We upgraded to a full 6 days of tickets to bliss, and my head was fully extracted from the dark recesses of my hind end. Again, the questions, "What parks?" and "How many times?" reared their ubiquitous heads. Long story short, it was unanimous that we would give DHS a try.

Some of you have caught on that our family is a movie fanatic kind of bunch, especially old movies and classics- Disney included, but mostly film noir. My kids could pick out Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwick, or Cary Grant out of any booze-swigging crowd anywhere. Well, they could if they were still alive, but they all took their booze-swigging fairly seriously. Being on the "goober" end of the spectrum, we are not your average soccer, Boy Scouts, and chess club kind of family. Call us weird if you want. We love the 30's, 40's,a nd 50's films so we figured DHS was worth a try. Then we discovered ToT. That sealed the deal. We own a season of TZ, and that too is one of our faves. Especially the episode, "Talking Tina". Creepy!! Anyway, we gave DHS a whole day in the schedule.

Well, try DHS out we did and lasted a full (maybe) 8 hours. It was hot! Why is there less shade here than the Gobi desert? The lines were long, and even with our well-researched FP prowess, we were just getting no park mojo that day. We kept getting lost (never did find the Incredibles). And worst of all, Momma (me) had a colossal headache. We left around 3 or so. We were done, and honestly a little bored too. As of now, it sits firmly in the last poll position, but I'm willing to give it another spin. Afterall, who can go wrong with an attraction something akin to Buzz Lightyear on crack? Another factor is getting PHs this time around. We can always bag out for greener pastures. But as I've said many times before, and what has become my new park touring mantra, "The more you know, the less you blow (in regards to money, time and energy)." And what I know now has me almost excited about the possibilities- Possibilities Like These:

1. TSM. I love Buzz, and hear this is EVEN BETTER!

2. ToT! This time, I am looking specifically for the hidden props from the movies.

3. Being a slow down and enjoy the park for its own charm sort of trip, I intend to watch a whole lot more streetmosphere.

4. Obviously, the Great Movies ride. Being someone who can quote Casablanca word for word, this is a must!

5. Never made it to Animator's Studio.

6. Nor One Man's Dream

7. Finding fun new hats to add to my hat photo scavenger hunt will be fun.

8. Finding a whole bunch of hidden gems and Mickeys (separate post of these coming in a future installment)

9. I adored having a latte and a pastry at Starring Rolls and taking a people watching break there.

10. If there is time, and they've added more shows by then, I'll risk my life and watch Fantasmic! This will be a game-time decision.

So, there you have the long-winded version of how I feel about DHS. Maybe it's a park that has to grow on you??

You will most especially love One Man's Dream! It is a fabulous walk through the history of Disney's life and career with a wonderful movie at the end. There are fantastic objects like the original "Dancing Man" theater model, a multi-plane camera, park and ride models and Walt's office recreated.

In a World of happy rides, TSM is one of the happiest. It is crazy fun and generally induces giggling and outright laughter in between bursts of wild balloon popping, plate breaking and ring tossing.

My opinion of Walt is that he was a highly innovative, super-mega-looper creative genious who knocked the socks off the entertainment industry. Or course, he had a lot of help behind the scenes to make it happen (I wish there was a tribute to Roy, as well!!!!). So, a stroll through One Man's Dream is something I'm very excited about.

I think there have many attempts to explain just how TSM works, but it may be one of those things that you have to have first hand experience with in order to really understand. Again, something I'm pretty jazzed up about getting to finally try out! Hey, Heather... sure you can't swing a trip out to Orlando in Sept??? ;) (Seriously, not joking here...)

Let's just say, patience is something learned and practiced. And you're learning very well, I might add. Just find it amusing that being a mother (or a wife) requires colossal amounts of patience and forebearance. (Not that I'm all the way there yet. :lmao:)

You know, the funny thing about me being a wife and mom is that it gives you a son-in-law and a whole bunch of GRANDKIDS!!!! :cool1: (yikes, I'm not sure I can see you as a grandma!)

I like your top ten! But you should see the Lights, Motors, Action Show. It's really cool!

Toy Story Mania. A must do if there ever was one. And still, regardless of the time of year I've been, unless you're there at park opening, you are running to get a fastpass. That's for sure. :thumbsup2

Might I make a recommendation? Even if you don't want to do the Backstage Studio Tour (it is a bit long), the building that it dumps into is the film institute's display, and it always has some wonderful costumes and movie props in it, if you're into that sort of thing. Even if we don't do the tour, we always check out what's new there. :goodvibes

DHS is definitely a park that needs some time to gone through. I think that you miss alot of the little details if you rush too much. TSM and ToT are both musts for me, as is enjoying the streetmosphere. I love the characters that wander the streets and really pull everyone into the show.

Sounds Dangerous is a bit lame, but I would check out the play area where the attraction dumps out if you have the time. (And it's open). There are some neat sound booths that you sit in, and with just sound you would think that your getting a haircut. One of my favorite time-wasters is in there too. They have stations where you can dub your voice onto Disney cartoons. My BFF and I spent ages there once dubbing our voice onto the scene in Snow White with the witch and the apple. It's a hoot to hear your own voice on the cartoon, and a bit addictive to get your voice synched better.

As someone who used to count MGM as my favorite park, I will go into a brief synopsis of what I think happened to this once great park.

When conceived, MGM was supposed to be about movie making. Yes, it was much like U.S. but Disneyfied. When you walked through the gates and walked around the park. You GOT the theme. There was Superstar Television which took regular audience members and put them in famous TV shows. There was Monster Sound Show which Martin Short(?) and Chevy Chase hosted which talked about Sound Effects. There was a soundstage tour (some of which is now part of the backstage tour). You got to see how movies were made and got to walkthrough working Soundstages where Star Search and the MMC were filmed. Throughout this tour there were filmed bits with stars like Bette Midler and Mel Gibson. The Animation Studio was a working studio.

Slowly but surely, the cost effectiveness of having a working studio in Orlando started diminishing. TV shows were no longer filmed there. Animation was consolidated in Burbank and the Orlando unit was shuttered. Superstar Television was closed and the theatre sat empty for years. MGM ceased being a working studio.

Without the theme of MGM being a working studio, the layout stopped making sense. The detailing was not there as most buildings were soundstages.

It has spent the last 10 years or so, losing it's identity. So when people visit now. They don't get it. That said, I think they are trying to make a comeback with Toy Story Mania and Pixar Place. By placing TSM in Pixar Place, it allows Disney to add attractions in that area related to Pixar. People will get the association. Movies=Pixar=attractions.....

MGM/DHS is still at the bottom of my list, but winning it way back to respectability. However, I'd like to know the story behind putting RockNRollerCoaster next to ToT. Where's the common theming in that. You have a whole street dedicated to a certain time period and then throw in something modern in there. Doesn't make sense to me..

Okay off my soapbox.

Maroo I wondered about that - that's why I tried not to mention anything Liesa has reported on.. :rolleyes1

of course then I thought - I mentioned others, didnt mention her work - hope I didnt offend, I know I'm weird.

DHS - we take this one slow.

1. Great Movie Ride - find out if they are running 2 tracks... (the Cowboy track is worth going down once! They usually only run the gangster one!)

2. The Muppet Movie - pull the umbrella - this needs a photo!

3. Toy Story (stay tuned for my link on hints and pics!)

4. One Man's Dream

5. The ANIMATION Studio!! :goodvibes When we went when the boys were young (BDD - before DD) like jordonyosh stated - it was a working studio - it was amazing - we saw them make MULAN that year!! We love Mulan even more - so when you sit down for the pre show - you see them making Mulan - we walked and watched as opposed to sitting and watching... Then you are released into a fun area - games, and meet and greets - I'll have to post some pictures!! Then you wait to get a chance to draw with an animator... (who is usually just a CP CM - who is hoping to get hired on full time - kinda sad, but take the time to engage them in talking about their love of drawing)

6. ToT (I have to ride alone - no one rides this one! just me :rolleyes1)
7 Rock n Roller Coaster
8 Beauty and the Beast (and how I will miss 4 for a Dollar! you tube them! they were so much fun!)
9 Street People - hysteria!
10. Fantasmic - if its showing more than once a week!

(Maroo - they have discontinued the lunch with an Imagineer! :sad1:)

Then it's a good thing this is at the #1 top of the list for both of us!! We'll make sure this is done first!!

By all means!! That is a great recommedation, because I DO happen to like movies- a lot! My kids and I actually danced a small, but noticeable jig when we spied the Mary Poppins dress used in the movie in the queue for the GMR!!! Have no idea why that's so cool- it just is.

That might be a fun way to kill some time in some A/C'd comfort. Do they put your dubbed voice the film and you watch it?? How does this work?

I'll be the runner while you watch B&B. Been there, done that.

2. RnR

We'll see how necky-poo is doing.

3. ToT - if I must.

You must.

4. See the Finale Show of American Idol. I hear it is pretty good.

I think I might have to pass on this one. I may add Star Tours at this point.

5. One Man's Dream (never seen it)

6. Narnia ride - or is that a show - again, never seen it!

It's a walk-through, and my kids are fairly begging me to check it out.

7. Indiana Jones show - missed this one, too

It's ok. I'd do it again; there are some clever and funny parts to it.

8. Beauty and the Beast - One of my favorites!

Of the two shows, I'd rather see Little Mermaid, if only for the scores. I like the music better in the other.

9. Take an "art" lesson at the Animation Studios

My kids tell me I stink at drawing, but this sounds super fun anyway.

10. I would love to have "lunch" with an Imagineer.....?? Just totally throwing THAT out there!

Now, that's an interesting thought. I never thought of any tours or lunches, but this one does sound very intriguing!

The whole package just doesn't seem to gel too well, at least from my perspective. But there are some, albeit, disjointed elements that are keepers. I'll go back for them. I'll have to really give it to you- you are one super-computer of Disney knowledge here! You've done your research.

I think you've given a fair and pretty unbiased opinion, and to me it sounds spot-on.

It was around 7ish PST when I wrote that. I forgot what I wrote. I had to go back and read it again....:rolleyes1

With the theming and overall cohesive, it lost the "working Studio" angle and with that went the thread that tied the parks different areas together. I'm sure the Imagineers and planners for this park tear their hair out trying to bring back cohesive w/o blowing up the park and starting over.

Your DHS plans look pretty similar to what ours will be, though we'll prob skip a few things..One Man's Dream ( I don't think Piper is old enough to appreciate that kind of exhibit yet), Indiana Jones show, American Idol..for us, it comes down to time. With three day PHs my plan right now is to split a day with AK and DHS. I think I'm looking forward to seeing the theming at TSM the most, with the animation studio a close second. Not sure what Piper will pick yet, will be interesting to see :)

No doubt they do. Too, I think that you're right about Pixar. Maybe that will help, at least with those who didn't know the original intent of the park. Sad though, that something that was a pretty good idea, lost the spark.

I think I am lost...maroo, how many PTR's do you have....??? lol Am I in the right one?

I think that's what I'd do too, given 3 day PHs. I think she'll really like TSM, being her age. Just a guess, though. Sometimes those kiddos of ours really surprise us!;)

In a World of happy rides, TSM is one of the happiest. It is crazy fun and generally induces giggling and outright laughter in between bursts of wild balloon popping, plate breaking and ring tossing.

I love that description!

For me I think AI has helped a lot to bring the feel and intent of MGM back, I love it. I personally don't mind RRC, it's really it's own street to me so even though it is close to ToT, I'm ok with it.

I  Beauty and the Beast. I like your lists. It's a funny park. A bit hard to navigate and can feel like it's deserted in areas and insanely crowded in others but lots of wonderful things. I love the street performers, they add so much to the experience. When we went in '04 we hit this park on our first night, really on a whim, not thinking we'd like it and I think we ended up hitting the park 4-5 times during our week we liked it so much!

Hmm...

now that is a VERY good question.

Three? :confused3

Ok...there is THIS one - you ARE in the right place - this is where we discuss our plans for Sept 2010 - Liesa and LeeAnn and I! So yes... you are in the right place.

Then I do tend to hijack (with permission, of course) Sandy's Marathon Weekend pre-trip report - and sorta use that to discuss my March Half Marathon plans....

And then I have my other one. The step-child...really. I had abdoned that baby altogether. But when I got kicked out of this one...I went and grabbed it so I could talk about my December trip coming up...and then January...and March........ I felt bad hijacking for those. ;)

TSMM is just that cool - honestly!! If you like Buzz, you will love this. Consider a touring plan that includes FP opportunities for sure.

How about the Muppets?? I love the Muppets!

Meeting Sorcerer Mickey?

If there were just better food choices, DHS might be higher on my list. As it is, it's number #3 out of 4.

1. TSM. I love Buzz, and hear this is EVEN BETTER!

it is. one piece of advice. start with your non-prominnent arm. i am right-handed. i always start with my left hand and then change halfway through. that way i have my stronger arm fresher for the bonus round.

2. ToT! This time, I am looking specifically for the hidden props from the movies.

this is my FAVORITE attraction in all of disney world. for reals. i thought i'd hate it but i LOVED it!!! thus making DHS a must-do for us. if you're interested in my first encounter where the thought of riding it scared me to death, go here....

and here's the video from that ride: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19113579&postcount=431

and in 2008 we rode at night. it was so cool! here's the installment of that, with video: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25575893&postcount=512

4. Obviously, the Great Movies ride. Being someone who can quote Casablanca word for word, this is a must!

i have to share what happened to us on this ride. we got STUCK during the casablanca scene and we saw that darn scene like 15 times in a row....i was going nuts!!!!! and ingrid bergman looks drunk during that scene. she does! check it out next time you ride. this is one i haven't done since and ray and i have since dubbed it the not-so-great movie ride. but i know i'm in the minority on that!

5. Never made it to Animator's Studio.

we loved this! it takes awhile but it's worth it. and i'm sure you already know this, but that's where the incredibles are.

6. Nor One Man's Dream

another one that we absolutely loved. i try to do it every trip if i can. and i always cry during the movie.

10. If there is time, and they've added more shows by then, I'll risk my life and watch Fantasmic! This will be a game-time decision.

my 2nd-favorite nighttime show behind wishes. i adore this show and it's another must-do for us.

6. Narnia ride - or is that a show - again, never seen it!

don't feel bad if you don't get to see it. i'm a huge narnia fan and i thought this was lame.

I understand not loving DHS. I can't decide which I like better, AK or DHS. If we didn't have PH we probably wouldn't go there every trip. I agree with everyone else TSM is a blast. Best ride in the world!!

If you like that description, you should read her TR!! Seriously, Heather has an incredible way with words. It's NOT like GB puts it, "a narrative like that from an outing to the local mall." She puts her feelings in it, describes in detail what makes the ambiance what it is... all that!! Kudos, Circusgirl!

Funny how our opinions can change depending on the purpose or intent of a trip, and also with the changing circumstances we end up with on any particular trip. I think it's funny that you "on a whim" ended up there, and loved it. Same thing happened to us with DTD!! Whim= Loving it!

Thanks:) I did see yours...the one where she has to "knock first" before entering:rotfl2: love it!

There are a lot of Stans- more than just the ones that are the "hot spots" in the world right now. Most are peacefully cooking along- definitely "developing", but for the most part quiet and peaceful. Run by what we call "friendly dictators", but calm and slowly growing.

Yeah!

And I do love me some Buzz!! I totally smoke that ride every time- well, at least compared to my 18 yr. old son. :woohoo: Not shabby Mama!!!

Can I share a secret?? I took my then 5 year old into the Muppets, and we both snoozed. Like REALLY snoozed. I blame it on the Gobi desert like hotness of the park/day, the lack of caffeine, the stars aligning to precarious positions. You know. It wasn't necessarily- Kermit himself.

I don't think we'll be eating anywhere in the park itself at all. (ummm, that was a future hint for Rations Drop starting up after Thanksgiving ;))

it is. one piece of advice. start with your non-prominnent arm. i am right-handed. i always start with my left hand and then change halfway through. that way i have my stronger arm fresher for the bonus round.

Okay, those were pretty funny! Good ones! I love it too. Not my favorite; being the nostalgic type, I'd have to say for me it'd be Pirates or HM. But ToT is full of good, droppy fun!! And I adore the story line here!

That sounds almost as bad as being stuck on IASW. Gack!! I can't even imagine a drunk Ingrid!!! OMG! Not my heroine! So demure and beautiful. Almost as much as Audrey!

we loved this! it takes awhile but it's worth it. and i'm sure you already know this, but that's where the incredibles are.

Ummm. noo. never did find it. We wandered around (I with a splitting headache, under Gobi-like, blistering desert sun) for what seemed like about 6 1/2 hours looking for the Incredibles and Mater (cuz Mater is my other hero). Guess we missed it in our heat-stroke induced stupor.

another one that we absolutely loved. i try to do it every trip if i can. and i always cry during the movie.

Really?! I cried during Nemo. I'm such a sap. I'm certain a good flick about Walt will have similar effects.

my 2nd-favorite nighttime show behind wishes. i adore this show and it's another must-do for us.

We REALLY wanted to see this! ALL the kids and I, but we were just too pooped. We ended up going back to the Fort early, getting one of our best meals the whole trip (the Giddy up and Go chicken dinner). We sent the kids over for another nighttime movie, and my sis and I had wine coolers and yacked. All in all, I think we scored a pretty good evening, despite no nighttime spectacular. Oh wait, I think I even hopped a bus to Pioneer Hall, grabbed a re-fill, sauntered down to the marina and caught the Electrical Water Pageant too. So there was a nighttime spectacle (notice I didn't use the word spectacular here- it was good and fun, but NOT spectacular).

don't feel bad if you don't get to see it. i'm a huge narnia fan and i thought this was lame.

That's what a lot of people say. My kids want some pictures though, so I may go through it quick like, just to get some.

I think encouraging a kid to go on something that you think he'll do fine on is a good thing- every parent knows their kid best! But not enough to cause hysteria. I've seen too much of that too. I know you'll be able to judge his feelings at the time!! And NO, you're not a bad mom! It's every parent's job to help their kids confront their fears; it's part of helping them grow up.

great movie ride- i think most people dislike this, but i really like it. i would love to lunch with an animator -you should do it and tell me all about it

I was still nursing when all mine were 9 months old. I'd have whipped it out, and then seen how fast they could get the ride moving. :lmao::lmao:

I guess they've stopped this lunch with a happy worker thing... Sad. That would have been a lot of fun!

beauty and the beast -in all my trips i have only seen this once every other time it thunderstormed and got cancelled ..belle is my fave love it
streetmosphere- really hysterical
and as a side note this is not usually my fave park ( just ok) but at christmas time i loved it between osbourne lights and the christmas parade it waas just fantastic. it completely changed the way i felt about it. so it think it just might grow on you

If there's time to see both, I wouldn't mind seeing B&B again, but since I haven't seen Little Mermaid, I'd rather do that one. You should watch the YouTube video of Mrs. Potts falling over and struggling to get back up!! H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S.!!!!

We only saw about 5 minutes of streetmosphere last time- need to slow down and soak it all in.

Although we won't be there at Christmas, one of my goals this year is to be in this park after dark. Great Biscuit (I'm pretty sure it was you...sorry, having a CRAFT moment) took some fantastic nightime shots and the park looks stunning with the neon!

Good Morning (well, for me anyway...;))!

maroo likes AI, me, not so much. having not been in the states since it aired, we are not so attached to it, and frankly "don't get it". I may go find Ewok houses while maroo sneaks in there. TRY OUUUUUUT??!! You have got to be kidding!! :rotfl2:

When we did the backstage tour, I was over-the-top sad that the costume making room was deserted!!! So sad! That would have been sooooo cool to me!! The whole thing was like a drive-through ghost town with a few movie props stashed back there. Ever been to Tombstone, AZ?? It was kinda like that. Agree with you- "OK".

Muppets has some nice sight gags, but it's also a good place to catch an little snoozaroo if needed.

Driving under the Welcome signfor the first time on a trip? Seeing Tinkerbell do her fly-by? Okay, something really leak-worthy, exciting is happening tomorrow here. I get a specialty item grocery order comin' my way.

Yessiree Peeps! I get brown sugar, cranberry sauce (whole berry, all the way, baby!), pickle relish, yellow mustard, and the creme de la creme.... wait for it, wait for it....

CREAM CHEESE!!! (oops, pulling my Depends up a little).

Yup!!! Getting me some creamy, cheesecakey goodness comin' my way. I have a favorite German brand of raspberry jam that I plan to dump all over it, and them I might just eat several servings all at one time.

Now, speaking of cheesecake... I was thinking about our tentative DIS Meet in Sept. It's going to be here before you know it!!! I'm so excited!! Ladies, (at least I think we're all ladies, so far) are we still on for Cheese Factory, then a little shopping?? A little coffee klatch time somewhere??

well, here ya go. to find the incredibles, you're just gonna do the magic of disney animation attraction. you will have to sit through a movie first and then you will exit into a room with sorcerer mickey, the incredibles and some other characters (usually from the latest movie...right now i think it's "up" but may have changed since i last checked). if you don't see the incredibles but frozone instead, just wait a few minutes - they will be back out there. i know there's some way you can skip the movie first but i can't remember how to do it. after the character area you can go into the drawing class, which is always fun.

as far as mater goes, the last time we were there (december 2008) they had him and lightning mcqueen in an area sort of behind where lights, motors, action is. if you walk towards that show but keep going straight instead of veering to the right to go to the show, you should see them on your right a little ways down. they've moved them a couple of times though so if they're not there, just ask a CM and they should be able to tell you.

Ever get so excited you leak a little??

now THAT'S how you start an update!!!! :rotfl2:

oh, and it's also tag-worthy. where is that blasted tag fairy when you need her?

Don't laugh, it happens to the best of us! Like when you see the castle for the first time on your trip? Driving under the Welcome signfor the first time on a trip? Seeing Tinkerbell do her fly-by?

so funny that you should mention this!!! when i first started reading the first thing that popped into my head was when i FOUND OUT that a real person flies off the castle as tinker bell...not just a doll or something. i was planning for our first trip together and when i found that out on the disboards, i have to admit that that happened to me. :rotfl:

Okay, something really leak-worthy, exciting is happening tomorrow here. I get a specialty item grocery order comin' my way.

okay, so i'm guessing from this post and from others i've seen and because of the fact that you always seem to post in the middle of the night (at least where i am), that you don't live here. i've also seen the camel thing on your signature. so where are you? and why are you there (as in are you a missionary or something)? i know i'm a late-comer to this TR but i just haven't asked that yet. just interested because my cousin lives in brazil right now as a missionary and i was just curious as to where you are and what's the story behind it. popcorn::

enjoy your cheesecake, by the way.

Now, speaking of cheesecake... I was thinking about our tentative DIS Meet in Sept. It's going to be here before you know it!!! I'm so excited!! Ladies, (at least I think we're all ladies, so far) are we still on for Cheese Factory, then a little shopping?? A little coffee klatch time somewhere??

are we speaking of the nashville meet? if so, you can count me in. i don't care when. like i said before, nashville is a pretty easy trip for me since i go there all the time to see family anyways. it's only a 4-hour drive from here. so as long as i know a few weeks in advance, i can just plan a trip to see the family while i'm there.

Funny, my dad, the same one who wouldn't fess a fart in the OR, has a saying about that particular biofunction. "Men can't start, and women can't stop." All about the anatomy folks.

Hmmmm.... dates? Well, I'm thinking I can arrive on the 25th, but need to spend that week getting my son situated into University. And our trip starts the 5th. So, maybe like the 2nd or so?? What does everyone think??

okay, so i'm guessing from this post and from others i've seen and because of the fact that you always seem to post in the middle of the night (at least where i am), that you don't live here. i've also seen the camel thing on your signature. so where are you? and why are you there (as in are you a missionary or something)? i know i'm a late-comer to this TR but i just haven't asked that yet. just interested because my cousin lives in brazil right now as a missionary and i was just curious as to where you are and what's the story behind it. popcorn::

enjoy your cheesecake, by the way.

Yes, we live overseas, in the middle of Crap-A-Stan. Others know it as Blank-A-Stan, but since I can't get brown sugar anymore, it's position was demoted several ranks. I really don't say exactly where I am, since there may be those who aren't wanting a good thing going on in their country. ;) My DH does water development projects; basically that means, that by means of private and government donations, we bring clean water to schools in the poorest of the villages. Most do not have ANY piped water into them- AT ALL. (THink- a few buckets to clean, cook and wash for 150 students and staff.) I will PM you...

Hence, my AM is your PM, and I always post at your evening. My "regular" time is around 8:00 PM PST. I have a ton of fun with the west coasters and the night owl easter seaboarders.

Cheesecake, anything made of seafood (the closest ocean is about as far away at Jupiter), green veggies (that I don't have to grow), and Reuben sandwiches are the things at the top of my wish list.

are we speaking of the nashville meet? if so, you can count me in. i don't care when. like i said before, nashville is a pretty easy trip for me since i go there all the time to see family anyways. it's only a 4-hour drive from here. so as long as i know a few weeks in advance, i can just plan a trip to see the family while i'm there.

Uh-huh. Are you up for another one?? But this time, I would love to spend more time with everyone and get to know them more. There are so many fun folks here! :hippie:

Well now, those are mighty interesting things you've got there that inspire leakage. How does cream cheese survive the trip to the Stans intact? That's what this curious mind would like to know.

OK, here's the scoop... the capitol city has a big grocery store that stocks all kinds of Shoprite products, and whenever someone comes from there, we ask for them to bring the goodies. So, in actuality, it's only coming on a 2 1/2 hour trip. Well, minus the 36 it took to get it that far. But we don't dwell on that too long.

Speak for yourself! I never leak! :lmao:

Maybe that is something that comes with age? :rotfl:

I probably should run away now.

:tiptoe:

Nah. :rotfl2:

I am coming in Sept. And Lauren said she "HAS" to come...and that she doesn't care if she has to skip school to come...she will be a SENIOR :faint: and she is a allowed to "skip" ...

Who stole the real Lauren? And where did they take her? :upsidedow

I'd be running now. JK. It does come with age. And kids. I'd say you're safe for now.

You know Lauren can come- I would love to see her again!!!

Maybe she is finally understanding that there is more to life than straight A's. Like cheesecake.

That might be a fun way to kill some time in some A/C'd comfort. Do they put your dubbed voice the film and you watch it?? How does this work?

You stand in front of a touch screen and you respond to a few questions like are there one or two people, male or female etc. Then they play of a Disney cartoon that you are to dub your voice onto. They play it through once with the vocals running and then the second time they run it without, but with the words along the bottom of the screen karaoke style. When your done they play the same scene back with your voices as the vocals. You can try again if you want to improve it.

My friend and I were laughing ourselves silly over the results. I've found I'm a horrible evil witch, but my friend has a talent for sounding deliciously evil. I was a much better Snow White.

I'm hysterical over what your dad said. :lmao:

Just on a side note, you don't have to do the animation tour in order to meet the characters (like the Incredibles and Sorceror Mickey). If you go into the Animation Gift shop, you can enter the character area through the "exit" doors. It's a nice option if you don't want to do the tour. :thumbsup2

I would have a hard time coming up with top ten list for MGM - so bravo to you for trying. Its definitely my least favorite park. But, I will admit, with the addition of TSMM, and our discovery of the animation academy, it has begun to grow on me. We do love Fantasmic, but missed it last time due to rain. And we typically don't do ToT or RnR because our kiddos are scaredy-cats. So there just isn't that much for us - at least to take up a whole day. Although I do love the restaurants there - did you mention eating there?

Believe it or not - word out is that is now changing!! :surfweb:

At the Magic of Disney Animation now, there are two lines. The line on the left brings you to see the normal Magic of Disney Animation attraction. The right on the left now lets guests bypass the Drawn to Animation film and go directly to meet the characters (Up, Sorcerer Mickey, Incredibles) and/or the Animation Academy. Guests are now being discouraged from entering the character area from the Animation Gallery store.

It's still technically a test, but the purpose of the change was to allow management to better track how many guests were going to see the characters. Previously guests had to enter through the Animation Gallery store, which was confusing for guests and also did now let Disney track how popular the characters were.

Cheesecake yum....

Southwest flies to Nashville - I just have to figure out how to save money - sock it away.... will there be a hotel that will "headquarter" the cheesecake lovers? oh what about cars? will I have to rent a car? Can I bring a friend I met on another board - she lives there - I couldnt visit Nashville without letting tntitanfan know I was coming (I missed the last Nashville meet!)

Last time Lauren and I stayed at the Marriott. The Cheesecake Factory is on one side of the city and the big mall (Opry Mills?) is on the other...we stayed somewhere in the middle.

OH, that's too funny! I mentioned seeing Tinkerbelle and "leaking"- can you imagine what kind of disaster might ensue if THAT happened??!! :lmao:

Honestly, the corn cakes that we got last time were awful. maroo's pasta looked great, and our enchilada were super, but blech, the corn cakes were mush-city! I think we just ordered wrong. But, that's interesting that it IS all by scratch. I wouldn't have guessed that. And I find it hilarious that their signature dish isn't even made there. :confused3

That actually sounds pretty fun to do. I can see us doing that for a little while to cool off and have some giggles. Too bad they don't offer to record it for you and sell you a CD of it. I'd buy something like that as a souvenir.

OK, I really do want to find the Incredibles and the Cars. But I'll bet when I go in Sept. I'll get the UP characters, which I"m not so excited about. LOVED the movie, but not so excited about meeting a boy scout or old man.

Doing the tour isn't something I"m opposed to. I think it sounds kind of relaxing and fun. I'll give anything a try once.

Well, nothing really stands out to me AT ALL in the eating dept. I've done Sci-Fi, and it was meh. PRime Time looks okay, but, I actually have another idea that I'd rather try out, but not in the park. I'll be getting to that in a few weeks. Hollyweird Brown Derby looks good, but expensive- I would love to try the grapefruit cake, though.

This is a lovely thought! I do love the September experience in the World, and it would be more than fun to meet up with your crew! I'm not sure whether my finances will stretch that far as I have been giving them quite a workout recently, but if I am going to make it in the fall, I will make sure our dates overlap!

True.

But it would be a "real" vacation for Lauren.

No matter what - we aren't really able to just pick any hotel. Generally we need to pick a newer hotel for it to have a hope of having a roll in shower room - and the newest rooms have roll in showers AND two double beds - which is really a necessity when it is just me traveling with Lauren.

Do you guys want me to sort of figure out where Lauren and I would stay first and then you guys find places around where we are? Or would you guys rather sort of decide what area you guys are going to stay and then I can try to locate a room for us in the same area?

And what dates are we talking about? How much school is Lauren going to have to skip? And I would much prefer a Friday-Sunday deal?? Have we already discussed dates?

One never knows around here. Even here there's still a little mis-information. Better to check it out yourself, I always say. Especially in the things that tend to be subjective- like dining reviews.

I'm hoping that going AFTER school starts works in our favor for crowds, but I think the heat may not cooperate. Ah well, I like hot weather, so it shouldnt' be too much a problem. You have given your checkbook a workout. By the way, I forgot to say Happy Birthday, and welcome home!!!

The dates for me are tricky! I really need to use the first week of my time in the States concentrating on my son and my family. I hope to arrive on the 25th or 26th, but we leave for WDW on the 5th. So, a weekend may be tough to find.

i have no suggestions since i don't live there any more. but seeing as i only get over here every few pages, you may want to let me know if you guys decide on a date/location or i may miss it. any place is good with me! i just have to make sure to know ahead of time so i can make arrangements with my family. EVERY SECOND of my time there is always scheduled so i can see everyone (that's what happens when you have divorced parents and families on each side!) so as long as i let them know that this block of time is already taken, i'll be good! my mom lives about 30 minutes north of nashville and dad lives right in nashville, so no matter where i am, i'm close!

Well...how much school she can miss will be less of an issue next year than this year...

But my issue will be how much work I am missing, honestly. Depending on what days we choose. Most of my trips are only using a half day of work off...so I have some wiggle room - but I may want to take a trip other than Disney next year?? Not sure. And my brother and sis-in-law are having their first baby - so I will have some Aunt duties I am sure. So...who knows.

I guess when we sorta get some dates looked at...and make sure they are not during some major exam time for Lauren...then I will know. If Lauren can't come, then I will be up for any hotel arrangements.

I would also pay for a hotel room for someone if they would agree to help me some with Lauren. Traveling with her alone is really, really hard work - dragging luggage around for 2 - not being able to leave her alone to even go grab a snack, etc. So if purchasing a room is an issue for anyone and want to come help - then I am game for that. Assuming that all works out.

Soldier #1’s home suffered enemy attacks last night in the form of biological warfare. This week 2 specific enemy grenades were launched, and their names are “Flu” and “Gall Bladder Attack”. Neither are very fun.
Earlier this week, Zacaroni had a fever, which turned into a cough, that even still lingers. It kept him up for two nights of having too little sleep. Then last night, Naripoo came down with a fever while spending the night at our teammate’s house (I’ll explain why in a bit). She’s 63, and now I’m quite worried that she is going to come down with the same thing. Yikes! We did manage to find some Tamiflu, which cost us OOP about $35. Thank heavens there are anti-viral bombs we can throw right back at it!

We live in the middle of nowhere. This is an understatement of gross proportions. We get visitors from outside about twice a year, and it is always a grand affair. I was very excited for this field visit from our leadership. The chili was made and simmering, the cornbread baking, and the salad bar items were sliced, diced, and spiced, and the littlest kiddos were safely stowed at Kyoko's house for sleeping. But just about the time we arrived at the airport, it started to hurt to breathe. Right under my rib cage on the right side up into my shoulder, it just hurt to draw breath. It doesn’t’ take a 2nd Lieutenant (remember we are still only Sergeant Majors) to figure out that that is in the vicinity of the necessary, albeit quite volatile, little organ called the gall bladder. Yeah, I could have just stop breathing, but that wasn’t the proper course of action at this time, so I didn’t. Instead I soldiered on. As we sat talking over the course of the evening, it just got worse and worse, and finally at 11:30 I went to bed. I passed an uncomfortable night trying to decide which hurt worse, laying on my right side, which hurt my gall bladder, or my left side, which exacerbates a back problem that I’ve had a long time. 7:30 came all too early to cook them breakfast and see them out the door. Today, I am feeling a little better, but not all the way. I hear these things can take time to pass; obviously I’m anxious to be done with this! But while I was laying there in the dark of night with pain in my insides, I had time to think about this little update.

Let’s review shall we? We’ve told you all about the things we are most excited to do at each park and at DTD. We gave you a picture of how this trip will be more adult oriented, by slowing down to see the things around us, and to stop and smell some roses, so to speak, if the fancy strikes us. It isn’t so much about the rides, but about taking time to enjoy each others’ company, see some shows, and take it easy. Of course, there will be times, we’ll need to get our hussle on in the mornings (ie, EE, TSM, and Soarin’) so we can relax in our afternoons, and still feel like we’ve “done it all”. But honestly, the parks aren’t the only places I’ve been thinking about as to how I’d like to spend my time. There are resorts to be seen and experienced too. In fact, there are 3!!! resorts that I’ll be enjoying come September’s TC3 Extravaganza of Freedom. Imagine that! 3 resorts to explore all the nooks and crannies of Imagineering creativity! Here is my list of what POR has waiting for me:

1)Take the boat to DTD on the Sassagoula River. Did you know that “Sassagoula” was the Indian word (I have no idea which tribe) for Mississippi? I hear the 20-30 minute jaunt is very relaxing, and that loads of wildlife can be seen.

2) See Yeehaw Bob in the River Roost Lounge. I’ve been looking forward to this for a very long time!! Here are both his website:

http://wdw4christians.wordpress.com/2008/12/10/yehaa-bob-delivers-fun-music-at-disneys-port-orleans-riverside-resort/

and another that explains more about his show and the venue he plays in:

http://yehaabob.com/Page5.asp

3) Most of you know I love history about most anything. I am pretty pumped about seeing the authentic working grist mill here at this resort.

4) Obviously we’ll be doing some hot tubbing and pool time at Ol’ Man Island.

5) Did you know there is a butterfly garden behind the Acadia House section? I wonder if I’ll be able to use my macro shot selection on my POS camera and capture a photo or two?

6) Just wandering around the peaceful gardens and clean sidewalks (those are absolutely non-existent here) listening to the background music sounds exquisite to me.

7) Having a glass of wine on my balcony doing some people watching and listening to the birds also sounds very inviting right about now.

8) I hear that pralines and beignets will be close at hand. Hmmm…. I wonder if high calorie snacks will be consumed?

9) There are even Hidden Mickeys at all the resorts; you know Soldier #1 will be hunting for those.

10) Last but not least, I am looking forward to using the in-room coffee maker every morning. Faithfully. Every day.

that's nice

Your resort plans sound fun! I'm generally a low-key type person and all of those sound like things I'd enjoy if I didn't have a very active 8 yo in tow..lol. I tend to really cherish my alone time when it's in such scarce supply! Looking forward to the next update :)

She’s 63, and now I’m quite worried that she is going to come down with the same thing. Yikes! We did manage to find some Tamiflu, which cost us OOP about $35. Thank heavens there are anti-viral bombs we can throw right back at it!

Oh no! Stupid flu has made it all the way over the big pond. :( I am so sorry. :(

Oh my gosh!!!! It just gets worse!! Gosh, I hope you are feeling better!

I actually knew that. I guess living in MS does have its advantages.

2) See Yeehaw Bob in the River Roost Lounge. I’ve been looking forward to this for a very long time!! Here are both his website:

http://wdw4christians.wordpress.com/2008/12/10/yehaa-bob-delivers-fun-music-at-disneys-port-orleans-riverside-resort/

and another that explains more about his show and the venue he plays in:

http://yehaabob.com/Page5.asp

I am looking forward to this too!!

3) Most of you know I love history about most anything. I am pretty pumped about seeing the authentic working grist mill here at this resort.

4) Obviously we’ll be doing some hot tubbing and pool time at Ol’ Man Island.

Of course.

5) Did you know there is a butterfly garden behind the Acadia House section? I wonder if I’ll be able to use my macro shot selection on my POS camera and capture a photo or two?

 Really!?!?!?! I love me some butterflies!

6) Just wandering around the peaceful gardens and clean sidewalks (those are absolutely non-existent here) listening to the background music sounds exquisite to me.

Oh yeah!

7) Having a glass of wine on my balcony doing some people watching and listening to the birds also sounds very inviting right about now.

Ah....

8) I hear that pralines and beignets will be close at hand. Hmmm…. I wonder if high calorie snacks will be consumed?

::yes::

9) There are even Hidden Mickeys at all the resorts; you know Soldier #1 will be hunting for those.

And teaching Soldier #3. :teacher:

10) Last but not least, I am looking forward to using the in-room coffee maker every morning. Faithfully. Every day.

I sure do hope you feel better soon! And glad that you guys got some Tamiflu to fight off the sickies!

I'm sorry you weren't feeling good.:sad2:

I thought I posted on here but I guess I didn't.:confused3

I tried to read all the updates but my head started spinning. :lmao: I don't know which TR has more action.. yours or Jordan's. I can't read them back to back. LOLOL :rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks!!

I've had hardly any time this week to do much reading, let alone posting. I miss the fun banter I usually have in my mornings!!! Hopefully things will be back to normal next week, unless the rest of us get it. But you're not going to believe it. DH came home and said he has a fever, and started the Tami.

Yeah, it's hard to keep up with the fast-paced ones, so I just dive in where I can and have fun on the fly.

Yikes! At the gall bladder attack and the flu going around. I'm so glad you could find some tamiflu :) Hopefully you'll start to reeeeally feel better soon.

Your resort plans sound fun! I'm generally a low-key type person and all of those sound like things I'd enjoy if I didn't have a very active 8 yo in tow..lol. I tend to really cherish my alone time when it's in such scarce supply! Looking forward to the next update :)

Thanks, Amanda!

It's a drag having sick little ones, but I managed to make some chicken soup and Naripoo sipped some down. For me, it still hurts a little to breathe. :confused3

I really looking forward to just relaxing during the times we ARE at the resort. I don't see myself spending a lot of time there, but I think the Imagineers went through just as much thought and effort at them too. Lots to see and do, and frankly with kids, it's harder to do just that. I know. Last time, I was with my 6, 9, 13, and 15, and 17 year olds! Totally different kind of trip!
Hope your feeling better soon. It seems like so many people are getting sick these days.

I love all our relaxed plans for enjoying the resorts. It's going to make for such a wonderful low-key vacation. It should be really wonderful.

Thanks!! Yes, they actually closed my son's school down in the capital city (it's a school for English speakers) because 15% of the students were out with the flu. It's definitely over here!

I hope it's a good mix of exciting and relaxing! I think what's different about this trip is that I have a few "out of the way" , "out of the ordinary" things on my lists.

I sure do hope you feel better soon! And glad that you guys got some Tamiflu to fight off the sickies!

Awwww, thanks, maroo!! I don't know how much it is oop in the States, but it's definitely one of the highest priced meds. you can buy over here right now.

Bubbafied!! :lmao: That's a good one! I always cook that way, hardly ever using a recipe anymore. Most of the time it works... ;)

You know, we could all go over there and just hang out in the lobby! To take a looky see... even if we don't stay there...

That's how I cook too. I look at a recipie as a starting point for an idea, not much more. Although I have to admit, I followed a new one to a "T" last night and it was pretty darn good (Pumpkin Polenta with Chorizo and Black Beans). Jeff was complaining I kept making the same old thing.

You should absolutely go visit, it's just lovely! And lovely people run it which makes it more lovely to me.

Showed him!

[COLOR="Navy"][SIZE="4"]Soldier #1’s home suffered enemy attacks last night in the form of biological warfare. The website says it goes by SSR, but doesn't mention OKW. So, now I'm not sure. Here's an amazing website I just found for POR! This is like majorly complete, with a lot packed in:

I really want to just go around and see the resorts one day. (I'd love to do it at Christmas, but our 3 day trip looks jam packed!!) I've only stayed at ASMusic, Beach Club, & Polynesian; and I've eaten at Grand Floridian & the Contemporary so I've seen them. We're staying at OKW at Christmas, but I'd love to see the other resorts. You make POR sound so great!!

ME TOO!! That was one of my biggest regrets coming home last year. We made it to not even one resort except the Poly, so that is one reason it is high on my list. One way to ensure that, and so I can't let myself do it again, is making tons of ADRs AT the resorts rather than in the parks. Christmas or not, I feel like I missed out on a big part of what a Disney vacation could be.

Hmmm..I wonder if there's a seperate path for POR to DTD than the OKW way.

Maybe so?? I just honestly don't know. I think there are those on here though who could answer the question... Anyone? Anyone?

I think there's a big difference between boring and relaxing. I know you didn't read it and get bored, but I think a lot of people there at WDW (us included during our first few trips) can't distinguish the difference. or don't want to. I need this trip to be relaxing!!!

Well....My dose of Tamiflu for just me was $75.00 - and that was WITH insurance. I am sure some people have better copays...but that is what it cost me.

:scared1: There are some perks for living here, then. :lmao: Actually, there are quite a few, and that reminds me it's time to update my blog today....

A quick glance at our poll indicates that once again "Upgrading our resort" and "Getting PHs and a signature dinner" are tied once again. Huh!

You know, it's shaping up that the TC3, using tweaky Disney math, saving like crazy, and splurging even more, are going to end up doing both. I think. Well, I mean the upgrade to the Poly is almost a done deal, and well, we actually have at least one sig. dinner planned as well as PHs- soooooo it seems we listen well to our Peeps. "And that starts with P, which rhymes with T, and that stands for trouble...trouble, trouble." (name that flick)

Now, a word about getting a rental car...

Why is it that the vote count has not changed in about 5 months?? Those lone 3 votes came in during the first month (maybe even week) of the start of this zany PTR, and it hasn't changed one iota since then. I have to ask.. Is this an indiction of better Disney transportation since then? Was there a fresh shipment that came in from Colombia and those 3 smoked some of it? Were those 3 people staying at the POP and spent too much time at EPCOT? I just don't know...

Now as for the 30 folks who said see Cirque: Actually I'm still tossing this idea around. However, I'd like to expand my idea and would LOVE, no, COVET your input. Someone suggested a tour; and I know that there are many. MK special tours, EPCOT special tours, Segway Tours, Lunch with Imagineers (although, I heard this is kapput), etc... Peeps, what do you think?? I would love to see Cirque. ThePreacher'sWife saw it in Portland, OR and raved about it, and said she'd do it again, but now I have 3 solo days.

Give me your input about the tours you've done, or have heard about. Cost vs. worth comments, pictures, drawbacks; I want to hear it all.

For those of you who voted "Get 2 siggie dinners", I have no comment at this time. Ummm.. for those of you who will resume Rations Drop next month, that there is a clue.

Well, I've never done a WDW tour so I'm afraid I am not qualified to comment. I did tour an ice cream factory once and got some free samples. That was nifty. OH, and in high school we toured a pig farm, which come to think of it sucked actually. But my most infamous tour came when I was 6 years old. Picture it. Washington DC. My grandparents have brought me to the nations capitol. We stopped at some ungodly hour of the morning for breakfast and lined up to tour the White House. As we are wandering these hallowed halls, the tour guide decides to stop her endless rambling at the PRECISE moment that my breakfast decides to say hello. Yep. The infamous White House fart of 1979 is one which shall never be forgotten in our family. It's something I'm proud of to this very day. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. Makes me want to sing Battle Hymn of the Republic or something.

Does that help?

I am seriously contemplating that for my date night with Jeff on our trip. If finances allow. Which would bring me to the only reason I wouldn't go.

Finances.

But if I could swing it, on an all adult trip, I'd be SOOOOO in!

Rental car on the other hand, is SO expensive there especially for as many days as you are talking and for me, I'd skip it.

Which reminds me I have one to cancel!

That's sorta what I was thinking too. An all-adult trip deserves some adult entertainment like this. It's not just acrobatics, but a whole show, with emotion and storyline, and fodder for contemplation as I enjoy that glass of wine on my balcony... YOu get the idea...

Rental. I was totally ok with NOT having one, but then I read about nightmares like that'snice had after Hoop, and start to waffle. But then again, if I enjoy the Sangria, well then, all rental car bets are off anyways, I suppose.

Last I checked I could get a car for abotu $215 for one week. That'd pay for about 3 Cirques.

Ladies, let me give you my input on Cirque. I proudly claim to be on of those 30 that voted you spend your extra $$ on Cirque tickets. I have now see the show twice and I would go back again if it weren't so darn expensive. The first time, we were on the Deluxe dining package and Cirque was included so we thought - "Why Not? :confused3" My MIL and I took DD10 (then 7) and DD8 (then 5). We were all mesmerized. It is an amazing display of acrobatics, dance, incredible costuming, and music. There are soooooo many things going on at once that your eye (and your brain) delightfully jump from one performer to the next. Without giving too much away, see if you can find a Cirque Du Soleil: La Nouba commercial on YouTube or something. Just a glimpse of a fraction of what you would see is enough to tease you into wanting more.

On our second trip last September, we decided that Bella must see LaNouba as well. She was really too young on the previous trip (only 2 years old) and her with newly diagnosed epilepsy we didn't know if strobe lighting would set off a seizure. This was also a good excuse for MIL and I to see it again. So we purchased tickets for the 3 of us, and let me tell you it was just as amazing the second time around! As I mentioned before, there is so much going on all at once. There were many things in round 2 that I failed to notice in round one. Additionally, during our second viewing, I spent a great deal of time watching Bella's face as she watched the show. The delight in her eyes and the smile on her face would have entertained me the entire show.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend you spend your extra money on La Nouba tickets. I have yet to meet someone who did not think the show was worth every penny.

Just my two cents!

I would say HHDR is a must do! We loved it and I think you would too! One thing is after the show they were ushering people towards the busses. My plan was to take the boat back to MK and then the POP bus from there. I just did as I was told. You wouldn't need a car if you did an earlier HDDR show and just took the boat to MK or to the TTA (if you were at the Poly when you did the show)

I actually saw HDDR last year with my 5 kids, my DSis and her 2 and my parents. It was the grandest of gatherings!! We adored the show, and still have fond memories of people swinging their napkins all over the flipping place, praying that their bits of fried chicken and shortcake wasn't going onto my plate!! OK, seriously though, we had a blast!

I forgot from your TR, were you at the latest show and out at 11:00?? Cuz, I know that the Fort boats run for a long time! I'd have taken the boat back to MK, just like you said and hopped a bus from there. Weird that they weren't giving you other options.

I like the idea of a tour on one of your solo days, since that's something you probably wouldn't be able to do again on a family trip due to cost. I'm not too sure which one would be best though. I think there used to be a WS Hidden Gems one or something like that that goes into detail on the architecture and little secrets around the WS. That just sounds interesting to me b/c I love WS. :lovestruc

As for Cirque, DH & I did it last December, and it was interesting, but I'm not sure if it was worth the cost. We just didn't really get it. Don't get me wrong, it was definitely fascinating, but we just didn't seem as enamored with it as so many other people are. Maybe we're not smart enough :confused3

If you do decide to go, remember that you will want to sit on the second tier (can't remember what seating is called) b/c there is some activity that goes on in the walkway between the tiers and it is easier to see from the 2nd level.

The website says it goes by SSR, but doesn't mention OKW. So, now I'm not sure. Here's an amazing website I just found for POR! This is like majorly complete, with a lot packed in:

http://www.portorleans.org/ferryboats.php

Are your dates for next year set?? Just wondering..... popcorn::

We've stayed at both POFQ and at OKW. The little boats link both these resorts and DTD. It's a lovely, relaxing ride! :goodvibes

Not to be a killjoy or anything, Liesa, but the nurse in me feels you really should get your gallbladder checked out. Perhaps you just passed a stone, but what if you get a fullblown acute infection out in "the middle of nowhere?" You could get septic very quickly....

This posting at the same time stuff is getting out of control!! LOL

We were at the 7:15 show.. they were telling people to goto the busses. I should have known better. I blame myself.

Don't be too hard on yourself... maybe there really weren't any boats running. And to be honest, the transport system at the Fort at confusing at best.

Didn't we just talk about the budget yesterday?? :rotfl:

Maybe I was absent for part of that conversation? :rotfl2:

Cirque. HDDR. Poly.

Have I done this? Have I been a bad influence? :confused3

How many of you could have predicted months ago that this would happen?

You ARE a bad influence!! HA! :lmao:

I'd say a few did.... They are getting to know us pretty well! :rotfl2:

I did! :rolleyes1 LOL

I picked the Poly as your resort.. and I was right!

There are still 10 months before your trip. I wouldn't be surprised if you were staying in Cinderella's Castle concierge, with the deluxe dining plan- w/ wine package, renting a Bentley, and going for 2 weeks! ;) :lmao:

:lmao::lmao:That's funny! If only I wish hard enough.... :rolleyes1

I do believe I anticipated an upgrade to Deluxe resort as well if I recall correctly! Isn't that worth a point or something? :confused3

HA!! you ARE playing hard ball aren't you?!

Thanks, Kathy. I am feeling much better, and now I'm not sure if it was really gall bladder. It only hurt when breathed, and I"m starting to think it was something lung related. It is almost totally gone now, but if had lasted one more day, I would have gone into get a chest x-ray. I'm petrified to do that though. Last time my househelper went in the guys taking the films (they are ALL men) laughed with glee and joked that "2 plump girls were coming!" You have to totally undress, and they do make jokes. It's unbelievably unreal; things that would get someone here put in jail! :scared1:

That is a very good point.

And where is she, anyway????

I am going to skype her right now. She was not on here today?

I"m here! Just had a busy day. I've had quilting students here from 11AM until 6:00. Then I made pizza for the family. But hey!!

Guess what I just got to do??! I went online shopping and bought 2 pairs of capris, and 3 tops. For the trip! Sometime soon, I'll post pictures.

Good Morning my Tiki-Peepies!!!

We've now come the next stop in our tour of TC3 Must-Do's for the Week O' Freedom Trip.

Our Tour of Duty stops over at the Polynesian Resort of Luxury and Pure Comfort next on the agenda of merry-making; so let's take a look at what Soldier #1 plans to do here, shall we??

1) Watching Wishes from the beach is pretty high up on the list! I can't wait to take me some carpy photos and share them all with you here.

2) Most evenings around 6:00 the Poly hosts a cute little show as they light the Tiki torches. As insignificant as this sounds, I'm pretty darned excited about this! Remember, this trip is all about the usually missed, fun little things.

3) Just to feel like I'm a 5 year old little princess again, I'm going to be in search of the perfect hibiscus flower to pick up out of the landscaping (fallen already of course, because good DIS-ers don't pick flowers) to stick in my hair. I'll wear it proudly and pretend I"m the Hawaiian queen ruling over her tropical realm for an hour or two.

4) The arm flab will be taking a spin on the volcano slide for a few kicks and giggles as well.

5) And when I've had enough of acting like a tropical queen and pretending I'm 10 as I squeal down the slide, I'll go pick up some Kona blend to brew up in the mornings. Yum, yum!

6) Then, as I continue the swing to the "adult" side of life, I"ll saunter over to the lounge and rustle up a nice, juicy, tangy, sweet Lapu and sip away an hour or so, while I listen to whatever they provide for entertainment (while I contemplate WHY they let Kaleo go :confused3).

7) Doesn't taking a lei-surely walk among the lush, tropical grounds, drowning in Tahitian drumming sound luxurious?!

8) How about swinging in a hammock with a good book or a journal sound??

9) Of course, The Poly sports a few well Hidden Mickeys too. Want to come find a few with me?

10) Last, but not least, (sock this away for future reference), Soldier #1 loves her some well-prepared sushi. I'm thinking a late night snack of Nigiri or Tekkamaki (sp.?) might be in order!

Well, there you have it. Something for Soldier #1 to dream about for a few more months.

Thanks so much everyone. It's a long, long story, and very soon I will share it all; just not yet. Let's just say that in the next weeks we need to make some life decisions, and those are never easy to make. The very short version is that we are both feeling a very real sense of "burn out" in our work here, and some other pressing issues (mostly related to our kids' education) need attention sooner than later. Our leadership came just short of requiring us to leave earlier than when our term is up in a year and a half, but left the decision up to us.

There's a lot in my heart, and we just need some time to sort things out. Obviously since it affects the trip in some ways, I'll share more- I know you guys do care.

I am probably going to get in trouble for this...I have NO Must Do's for the Poly...except maybe the pool? And Tonga Toast? SO I am totally going to ride on your coat tails here...

1) Watching Wishes from the beach is pretty high up on the list! I can't wait to take me some carpy photos and share them all with you here.

AWESOME! I can't wait for this! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

2) Most evenings around 6:00 the Poly hosts a cute little show as they light the Tiki torches. As insignificant as this sounds, I'm pretty darned excited about this! Remember, this trip is all about the usually missed, fun little things.

See...I did not even know about this!

Uh...I will help you FIND the flower? :confused3 :cutie:

4) The arm flab will be taking a spin on the volcano slide for a few kicks and giggles as well.

You are totally on your own for this one. I would break the slide! :rotfl:

5) And when I've had enough of acting like a tropical queen and pretending I'm 10 as I squeal down the slide, I'll go pick up some Kona blend to brew up in the mornings. Yum, yum!

See...here again...I will grab a Diet Coke.

Who is Kaleo??

7) Doesn't taking a lei-surely walk among the lush, tropical grounds, drowning in Tahitian drumming sound luxurious?!

This DOES sound wonderful! :cloud9:

8) How about swinging in a hammock with a good book or a journal sound??

Heavenly.

9) Of course, The Poly sports a few well Hidden Mickeys too. Want to come find a few with me?

Sure! :)

10) Last, but not least, (sock this away for future reference), Soldier #1 loves her some well-prepared sushi. I'm thinking a late night snack of Nigiri or Tekkamaki (sp.?) might be in order!

I will have Tonga Toast while you grab some sushi! :)

" I waited patiently for the Lord;
He turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the Lord." Psalm 40:1-3

Waiting is so hard. Waiting patiently is even worse. The Lord will hear your cry and when answer when His time is right. Often blessings cannot be received unless we go through the trail of waiting. Praying for you and your family.

I won't tell if you pick the flower. :ssst:

4) The arm flab will be taking a spin on the volcano slide for a few kicks and giggles as well.
Who will go down the slide more.. you or Maroo???? :confused3

5) And when I've had enough of acting like a tropical queen and pretending I'm 10 as I squeal down the slide, I'll go pick up some Kona blend to brew up in the mornings. Yum, yum!
Yes! You have to try the 100% from Kona Cafe too!

Adult swingers... huh? :confused3

7) Doesn't taking a lei-surely walk among the lush, tropical grounds, drowning in Tahitian drumming sound luxurious?!
This sounds very relaxing.:cloud9:

8) How about swinging in a hammock with a good book or a journal sound??
Ummm you might be pushing it with the reading.

9) Of course, The Poly sports a few well Hidden Mickeys too. Want to come find a few with me?
A nice HM hunt is good for the soul.. so I hear.:listen:

10) Last, but not least, (sock this away for future reference), Soldier #1 loves her some well-prepared sushi. I'm thinking a late night snack of Nigiri or Tekkamaki (sp.?) might be in order!
You'd be proud of me.. I expanded my sushi love when I went to Indiana. I'm sure you will be able to find some yummy sushi here. ::yes::

Well, there you have it. Something for Soldier #1 to dream about for a few more months.
Here are my opinions. I think your Poly stay sounds wonderful. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I've finally pulled myself out of the remodeling hole that is my house! What did I miss?

A lot, my funny friend!! But as you exit your mini-crisis, I am about to enter one. More on that coming soon....

OH, the Poly!! My heaven on earth.

I will remember you in my prayers, Liesa!

It really is a small paradise waiting for me! Can't wait!

Thanks, so much Shannon for thinking about me. I knew I could count on everyone here.

" I waited patiently for the Lord;
He turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;

I love that passage- it's one for all occasions, but especially for times like this when there is more unknown than revealed.

Honestly, we are at a point of accepting whatever answer it ends up being, AND are almost at the point of being excited about what He has for us next. Almost.

Liesa, I just wanted to offer my support. If you need anyone to talk to, you've got my e-mail, please feel free. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thanks, TK! I just may do that. You have perspective, which is what we had lost.

I'm still trying to get back into the swing of DISing.:surfweb: So here come my comments on the Poly part of your trip. :wave2:

I won't tell if you pick the flower. :ssst:

Really?! You won't??

Who will go down the slide more.. you or Maroo???? :confused3

Probably me. Or LeeAnn. She's a major daredevil, and loves to water ski and drive the boat!

Yes! You have to try the 100% from Kona Cafe too!

If the money is there, I'll do it.

Adult swingers... huh? :confused3

Just meaning that I want to be part kid, AND part adult on this trip. The Poly has a little for everyone.

Ummm you might be pushing it with the reading.

Yes, I admit, I'm not much for being quiet like that too often, but in contemplation of my blessings, I may take a journal.

A nice HM hunt is good for the soul.. so I hear.:listen:

They are!!! They are!

You'd be proud of me.. I expanded my sushi love when I went to Indiana. I'm sure you will be able to find some yummy sushi here. ::yes::

I'm impressed!! Did you work up to raw fish yet?

I don't really do slides...at least not kid ones? Is this an adult slide? I love slides at water parks?

And Lee Ann skies AND drives the boat? That sound dangerous. ;)

I'd like a steak with a side of PERSPECTIVE!

Perspective- often times life boils down to perspective. Our world view, our given moods at any given time, and even how we view a trip to Disney World. It can change according to our circumstances, and even can drive or shape our circumstances at times.

Ours had changed over the last months. Many things have fed that depletion, and recently we had some folks come AWAYYYYYYYYYYYY out here to give us a dose of perspective. Let me expound, if I may.

I have told you that my world was rocked; it is a very real feeling that will come into focus over time, and here is what transpired. This is not a situation that transpired overnight, but has rather been brewing for quite some time, in fact. We knew it, and felt it, but because of so many circumstances, we lost the perspective to see things as they really are.

First of all, let me give you some more background to set the scene. As I've said before, we live in a very isolated place. There is only a small (4 to be exact) contingent of other ex-pats living within 8 hours of us. All of them are either too busy to interact, or we simply have NOTHING in common (other than English) with them. Skype has helped, but there's nothing like face-to-face interaction to ease the lonliness one can feel out here on the open steppe.

Secondly, the nature of our work requires huge emotional output. We pour into others' lives all week long.

By nature, this place is also simply difficult to live in logistically. We are not and have not been "comfortable" for almost 9 years. If the tax department is not giving us grief, the water is off. If the electricity is not off, our neighbor is putting up a fence, stealing 1/2 our yard. No one is entitled to a life of comfort, and we DID count the cost when we chose our profession, but it has taken it's toll- on our kids, on us personally, and on our marriage.

Thirdly, our 4th child, a son, Zach, was born with some syndrome (probably genetic) that has never been labelled. He was evaluated by a multi-disciplinary team, but the results were "inconclusive". He's seen every kind of specialist known to the Western world, and all they could tell us is that he is functioning at the lowest level of "normal". Over the years, he has slipped further and further behind in his school performance, even with one-on-one homeschooling. But he needs intervention that I just cannot give anymore. Speech therapy is becoming really necessary. Besides, I am spent. I need a break.

Furthermore, we have 3 kids who will graduate this year, next year, and in 3 years. Shepherding third culture kids back into their passport culture takes careful watchcare, and intensive input. It shouldn't be taken lightly, and we need to be an integral part of that process for them.

Lastly, my DH has been unhappy in his specific job role for quite some time. He is a trained hydro-geologist and water engineer, who loves science. But most of his job has been relational in nature, apprenticing, so to speak, others in how to implement water projects, as well as in other areas of "life". He is the one who spends enormous hours just doing logisitcal things to keep us "more comfortable" (ie, fixing our roof, keeping our cistern working, or fighting with road police). It has drained him to the point of near burn-out- a point of distorted perspective.

So, to re-cap, we have no fellowship, kids needing attention to life circumstances, weariness, job dissatisfaction, and tweaked perspective.

Although this has been building up for a long time, we knew at some point we'd have to face these issues and make some hard decisions. It seems now that those may be going to be made for us. We had a visit last week from our area and regional leadership who know how to get to the points that need to be talked about. Quite frankly, they were alarmed at what they observed. We are not crashing and burning, but it was obvious that this family needs to think seriously about doing things sooner than later. So, to cut straight to the chase, they are HIGHLY recommending that rather than in a year and a half we leave when our son, 18, graduates in June, and take a lengthy sabbatical. They really came just one short step away from requiring this.

Honestly, I cannot fathom wrapping up our lives and finishing out well here in only 6 months! We have a home that we'd have to sell, stuff to deal with, work to hand off, AND we just had a teammate move here to join us!!!! I would feel awful leaving her now!!

As you can see these are weighty issues, and cannot be decided too quickly.

On a lighter note, I don't think it will affect our trip. If we move back in June, I will simply have to knock off the POP part- and there won't be a Thailand. If we stay, it'll for sure happen because, things will just be as planned.

We are blessed, we have many, many people praying with and for us, and have some amazing counsel from people who really care about us, but really it comes down to what the Lord tells us. We really need His wisdom and presence as we seek answers and direction.

Thanks for your support guys!!! It means a lot! REALLY, I DO MEAN THAT!

I am going to keep this thread up and running, as it doesn't look like this will impact the trip, and I need this to stay entertained at the very least :)

that's nice

Liesa,

There comes a time when change is necessary even though you feel an obligation to continue to make things work in the status quo. While your amazing outpouring of yourself to others is what makes you so special, the time has come for you to shower yourself and your family with that same love. I know He will guide you to the right decision. Give yourself time to be silent and listen ~~ that's the very hardest thing for me to do. I always want to tell and ask instead of listen!

Know that whatever decision you make we are all here to support you. I know things will work out exactly as they are supposed to!

Sometimes I think holding on to those things that are outside of the weighty concerns of "real life" truly help us get through the mud. Help us see the forest through the trees. I know my trip planning does that for me, I hope it does a little bit of it for you as well.

Nine years. Wow.

Sometimes the greatest strength one can display is knowing when to stop, when to admit it's enough. When to stop so that there is something left to give to yourself and to those you hold most dear. Wrapping it up in 6 months, versus 18, methinks is just a number. Do what is right for you and listen, it will become clear, of that I am sure.

I wish you peace and clarity. And strength. We are here and HE is here.

Sometimes it takes someone coming in from the outside to give perspective that is just not possible from the inside. Things change day to day, but when you are there every day, you just don't notice the changes.

But it takes massive courage to actually hear the different perspective and really consider it. That is not easy to do and I applaud you for being open to their leadership and guidance.

I am continuing to pray for you guys. I am hoping that doors either open or close so that walking with Him would be easy to discern (although still possibly hard to do) and that you would just take His hand and move forward.

Moving across town is a big undertaking in 6 months...so I can't imagine what that looks like - moving halfway across the world. I am sure the logistics are unimaginable and will take an act of God to make it work. But I believe He will act. One way or another.

To keep this post on topic - I am so glad that our trip is still on!

Liesa :hug:s to you!

Your post and blog are truly inspiring to me. I could never fathom living in another country Not because I wouldn't want to, but because I am simply not brave enough to leave what is familar to me. You are an inspiration because you were brave enough and in doing so gave your children amazing experiences, education, and upbringing. What every happens in the next 6 months, none of that will ever be forgotten by them.

Your views on perspective remind me of the change in perspective I had after the birth of our 3rd daughter, Bella. Before Bella, an ear infection in one of my daughters would bring me to tears. Before Bella, perfect hair, pretty dresses, and clean faces were a priority. Before Bella, spending time making connections and socializing often took precedent over family time. But having a child with special medical needs has changed all of that. We have learned that no matter what, our family's health and happiness is our number 1 priority. We also learned to appreciate what we do have and not dwell on what we don't. You obviously have your family's best interest at heart and I know you will make the right decision. It will not be an easy one either way, but your choice will be guided by a pure heart and a strong faith.

Sometimes, it seems like just yesterday we had that first "glow" of something new and exciting, and that the time here has flown by; other times it feels like "why am I still doing this??". Like every job it has it's ups and downs. Lately though, it just seems like there are more downs that ups.

I"m 95% sure I can still swing the trip, but if it works out that we do indeed come home in June (not likely) then I know the POP part will be toast. (Because the Thailand trip will most likely be off, and what would be the point, then?)

Liesa,

You are so right. And we've know we needed to make this change for a very long time. Just never thought it'd be crunch time to put action to it. I doubt very much we'll physically be ABLE to leave in June, but perhaps by Christmas is more likely??

Thanks so much Cherie! It IS so hard to be patient. But strangely I AM at peace, and instead of feeling all ansty, like I was the other day, I'm just not. I know it's just a matter of dialoguing this through with others, and then taking one step at a time.

Sometimes I think holding on to those things that are outside of the weighty concerns of "real life" truly help us get through the mud. Help us see the forest through the trees. I know my trip planning does that for me, I hope it does a little bit of it for you as well.

:grouphug:

Yes, strength of character... knowing when to stop. That's perspective!!

You're right it IS just a number. All we can do is take steps to wrap it up, and whether that takes 6,8 or 10 is just "what it is".

I do need something that is outside all of this. Planning a trip is just the therapy, I think. ;) Although, I was lamenting to maroo the other night, I'm glad I could pour so much time into doing just that over the last months, because now my time for planning may be less. At least I could go even tomorrow and know what/ and how would be important for that trip. Even if I was to drop the planning ball right now, Mary could still get our ADRs since we've done most of that deciding stuff.

Sometimes it takes someone coming in from the outside to give perspective that is just not possible from the inside. Things change day to day, but when you are there every day, you just don't notice the changes.

I agree, someone who hasn't been IN the situation is sometimes the very best one to point out what is missing (or in excess!). It's great to have such support, even if they do come only once a year or so. Like I said before, all we can do is take one step at a time, and move forward as we are lead. We love the open/closed doors analogy.

I talked to our M. shepherd last night, who just happens to be LeeAnn's husband (she was at a school board meeting- remember, for those of you who joined us aWAYYYYYYYY back then, LeeAnn is a school board member). He was glad our trip was still on too. So that's a good sign!

Wow! That's all I have to say. Continued prayers for your family.

Thanks so much, we'll be needing all of them! It's a lot on our plates, that's for sure!

I just got to Anaheim-my place of employment. Other than emptying the trash, this last update was the first piece of "business", I attended to. Dad has a way, doesn't he?

Ah...perspective. I know that all too well when it comes to the line of work we're in. I thank Dad everytime I receive words from those outside of my situation. They are able to see things I am not able to see.

What would happen when you got back here? Financially speaking. Where is your home base here in the States?

He always has a way of intervening just perfectly, yes! Even in the little things!

See, now that right there is in interesting and wise perspective in of itself. Being THANKFUL for those who can offer (and do) offer words from outside. I so admit, I was a little defensive at first, but my heart has been softened, and back on track to be humble and to receive.

Financially?? Hmmmm... where do I go with this??

We are almost perfectly on target with our need. Supporters come and go, but Dad has always known just what our need is, and has provided it! He is good!

To be honest, we've been able to actually save some while here, since COL is so cheap, and being tightwads (I shared that with you on your PTR the other night) we save every penny rather than spend it. What would be buy?? LOL! So financially, we are doing better living here than if we live in the States. But moving back brings up a whole nuther thing. We do own a home in Portland. I hate it (804 sq. feet for 6 people?- not my idea of great.). It's in the middle of a crappy neighborhood and the drive-by shootings were getting a little wearisome. I'd love to move, OUT OF PORTLAND in fact, but that probably won't be possible. So, what do ya do?? More muddiness...

With 3 kids at or near university age, the $$ needs to go there instead of moving out of Baghdad. (ok, it's not that bad, but still makes me nervous) But our home church is in Portland, and we do feel quite a heavy obligation to stick around there at least to tie up relationships there. I guess I should also add that we are going to leave the door open to going back onto the field, after some refreshment and retooling, so need to not burn bridges there. Make sense??

Oh, Liesa. My prayers are with you and your family. Tough choices are what make us stronger, and I know that you will make the decision that's right for you and your family. Often, when I have moments where I don't think I can bear anymore, that's when God has given me my moments of clarity. In the mean time, we're here for you.

Thanks, TK! That's exactly what I'm so expectant for: clarity! It will come in good time, I'm sure of that!

Yes, 9 long years! I wouldn't say that they are not going well, just time for change; that's always hard. Thanks for your support!!! Just stop by often and keep me entertained, that will go a long way, just to be a fun place amidst the other!

Liesa :hug:s to you!

Again, great perspective!! Our motto with Zach is, "ANY progress, is GREAT progress!". It's all about perspective!

HA! you are right, they will never forget that burning trash is normal, stealing someone's yard is normal, and will always remember how they got their music lessons for practically free. :lmao: Just kidding (sort of), they will always be wired to know that relationship comes above how nice their house is, that the last piece of bread goes to the guest and that if you put on enough clothes standing for a bus when it's -30 CAN be done.

I'm confident that things will fall into place over the next weeks, so am not too worried, just don't like not knowing the plan.

Liesa - I know you and your family will make the best decision for all of you and everything will work out in the end. In the mean time, you will all be in my t&p.
