At this stage in my life, I feel lucky that I feel this way about my ex (10 years together) and my current man (1 1/2 years and going strong). This song just means so much to me and makes me cry every time I listen to it. :cloud9:

For the past few years, it seems like more things make me cry than not, but off the top of my head: (1) the song "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me (FWIW, I'm not a very religious person, but this song gets me balling my eyes out after the first few notes, every time), (2) Extreme Makeover Home Edition -- every single week, (3) the National Anthem and (4) anytime I see military personnel -- I'd like to approach them to say thank you, but I begin tearing up immediately and never do say thanks, 'cause I'm thinking they're going to think I'm crazy.

Any time there is a photo display of Lesbians and Gays killed in a hate crime. I can't go near them. :( Orlando Pride last year had a photo essay, and it nearly killed me.
So, it comes as no surprise to add the scene (final episode first season) in Queer As Folk when Justin is bashed. I still cannot watch that. When I first saw it, I was taken totally by surprise and it was not pretty.

Oh gosh, that's another thing.
Any fairly large group of uniformed personnel. I once had to pull over on 75 South when a large contingent of State Police and County Sheriffs went by on motorcycles, and in squad cars. They were on the way to a funeral.
Fly overs do it too, whether funeral oriented or not. Can't deal.
Wow. Never quite realized what a wimp I am! :guilty::rolleyes:

Tonight's episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition was done for a former military medic who has Gulf War syndrome and spends his time trying to get help for disabled vets. And his teen son was hit by a truck in front of their home, where the father rushed to his aid and stemmed the flow of blood from his son's arm (due to his medic training). Later his son's arm was amputated, but he lived because of his dad's medic training. Do I have to tell you what a mess I was? :)

I've been working my butt off, literally! They have been working me so hard it really is hard to be in a "Disney" mood.
So tonight we go to Chef Mickeys, only for the all you can eat Prime Rib, a favorite of Shreks!
So I look over and watch Minnie approach a table with a young girl. The girl is absolutly gaga over Minnie! Tears and all! I had to look away to keep from crying!
So ya, things like that tear me up! I'm a big sap for kids and the characters! :sad2:

Sounds like it's definitely a great perk of the job. However, I honestly don't know how CM's maintain their composure, professionalism and downright friendliness with certain people, especially during the brutally hot summer. My utmost respect and admiration for people who work with the public under, somewhat less than ideal situations.

Thanks for the tip OMike! I'll be sure to leave my little snowflake's button home when we come visit in August/September. ;) :rotfl2:
Edited to add: I guess this isn't something I'm familiar with. I didn't think there was really such a button, but rather more of an "attitude" displayed by parents regarding their children. I googled it and see that it's actually an organization that helps sick kids, so I guess I'm missing something here or some stories I'm unaware of. Wouldn't want to offend anyone who's child is actually sick with a mean comment.

PrincessK, Give Kids The World is a legitimate organization that provides holidays to WDW (and other things) to terminally, and seriously ill children. There is nothing "snowflake" about it. I must say, I really hate the term snowflake and its use here on the DIS and the other place.
O'Mike, I'm sorry that things aren't easing up at work. :( Good that you were able to get out for a bite of prime rib though. :teeth: I know how much you care for the children, and how much they touch you.

I'm a big ol' softie. I cry at the drop of a hat. I can't handle watching Extreme Home Makeover. I'm a blubbering mess by the end.
But when it comes to children, I become a mushy pile of goo.
I have to share a store about our last trip to DL. We were sitting at Tomorrowland Terrace having a sandwich. Right next to us, was an older man and a young special needs child who was in a wheelchair.
She was probably about 10 years old. Cute little girl with blonde hair and covered in head to toe in Disney. She was really upset because her camera was broken and wouldn't work correctly. I already was getting teary eyed and asked Steven if he thought it would be a bad thing to go buy her a disposable camera and give them $20 to pay for development. Just then, the Father yells at her telling her it was her own fault for breaking it. I almost lost it at that point.
She drops her camera and was struggling to pick it up. He wouldn't get it for her and instead ignored her. I started to get up to go pick it up myself and hand it to her, but my partner laid his hand on my arm and whispered that it was best to not interfere and to let her father handle it. He was probably right. I didn't want to end up getting into a fight in the middle of Disneyland regarding his parenting skills.
This went on for a while. She was upset and angry and wanted her camera. He kept berating or igoring her. I sat there with my head down, tears running down my face. It was a mixture of sadness and anger.
Finally, the mother comes up with their food. She could sense that something was wrong and asked what was going on. Of course the father tells her about how their daughter was acting. The mother leans down and gets the camera. The daughter kept playing with the camera trying to get it to work rather then eating. This made the mother frustrated and the father even angrier. The little girl was crying by this point and the mother asked her what was wrong.
She pointed to her father and proudly and loudly said, "He's being an *** hole!" The mother had to laugh. The father didn't look so happy.
With tears still streaming down my face, I busted out laughing SO hard I almost spewed coke out my nose. We were almost hysterical by that point. We stood up and I walked by to throw our food away, patted her on the shoulder and said, "Couldn't agree more" and walked away.
I can't see a special needs child without crying. Just can't do it. I just want to give them all a big hug and not let go.

Being a character is one of the most gratifying jobs in the park. They are instantly, automatically loved... the strength of that love is incredible. Mickey Mouse was being mobbed near Mr. Lincoln one afternoon, when a small boy broke free from his father, pushed through the crowd and flung himself at Mickey. "Mickey Mouse," the boy said. The child was autistic and those were the first words he had ever said. - David Koenig/Mouse Tales

Oh dear g-d, the Quilt. A portion of it came to SU when I was there and I tried to go and view it...
No way. Talk about a useless lump of flesh. Total basket case and I never got through the door. :confused3
When they had it on the Mall, I couldn't even watch the news reports.
It absolutely overwhelms me.
During one Christmas season in the frozen North, my wife and I were in shopping mall and there was a tree there. Make a donation and hang someone's name on the tree. There was merchandise to buy too.
I stopped, gave the man a donation, picked up a tag to write Frankie's name down and couldn't get any further. It was so darned embarrassing. My wife had to hang the tag on the tree. We bought sweatshirts (still have them all these years later) but I was just a stupid wreck the whole time. The men at the booth were incredible, compassionate, understanding...
I've learned to not even try to do some things... AIDS absolutely wipes me out.

I'm sad (not crying yet, give me another glass of wine) because I realized that we were in WDW last year at this time and I won't be able to go back until next year.
I also cry every time I see the Survivors walk during the Relay for Life. It makes me remember all the loved ones who fought the fight and lost.

We're arriving that morning about 10 am (catching a red-eye out of SEA the night before and changing planes in Atlanta (AirTran)). Alaska is no longer flying a red-eye to MCO and AirTran was the only airline offering good fares at the time. Looks like we'll be on the same DME bus (as we're staying at POP) but at different times. I hate to waste an entire day on the flight (given the time change), so I prefer red-eyes...esp. if I can take a nap in the afternoon.
We're thinking about DATW...want to join us? DHB is a displaced Portlander (if it wasn't for our jobs, we would be living in Portland) so there will be lots to talk about (Seattle-bashing if nothing else).

Things that make me cry:
1) Hearing Amazing Grace (sung well)
2) The Lion King, from the first note to the stampede to the finale
3) Breakfast at Tiffanys (cat in the alley, :sad1: and I don't even like cats)
4) Main St USA, seeing the castle the first time on a trip (cheesy, i know)
5) Cutting the grass in the backyard; my dog Maya is buried there, everytime I cut the grass I miss her even more.
6) Thinking about things that make me cry.
OK, going to get a tissue now.......

I stand there at the very edge of my RFL campsite each year and just turn into a pile of tears. It is so devastating, yet so heartwarming to see all the survivors, people who have fought so hard and beat that horrible disease.

Good God I just found this on Youtube!
I think I watched this video every night before bed when I lived in Boston! It was a dream of mine to one day work at that magical place, it still tears me up!
(There are three parts to the video...#1 and #3 are the tear jerkers!)
Now I actually laugh at how things have changed! :lmao:

I cried this morning when I passed a car accident. The driver seemed to be OK, but they had not pulled him from the car yet... the firefighter was crouched near the door talking to him...
I am such an emotional freak.
