Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking on these boards for a really long time now and I've now finally got the courage to start my PJ (and do an actual first post - woo!) and make the prospect of a DFTW even more real!
I'm Naomi :hippie:
and am lucky enough to be marrying the most gorgeous guy ever - Chris pirate:
I have been with Chris for over 4 years now, we met back in 2003 when I started working in a bowling alley (classy eh!) He was the bar man and I was the Sales Advisor who would go and ask him for a glass of water every 5 mins just to talk to him. We were friends for over a year and evetually got together after I came back from a month in Oz and he realised how much missed me. From then on we were inseperable. We got engaged back in Januray on our 4th 'anniversary' - he propsed with a big chocolate heart with 'will you marry me' iced on to it! - Chocolate is the way to my heart!
I have thought that I'd never want the usual wedding formula here in the UK and have always wanted to do something really different (which of course incorporates my love of all things Disney)
I don't know how all you ladies have found telling your family that you want a Disney wedding but I've already come up against major backlash, mainly from my Dad who has even told me that I'm selfish for having a wedding so far away from the UK and doing something so different. After much crying and major anger and lots of support from everyone else we've decided we are still gonna go for it and have even gone as far as thinking that we'd like to do it in Octover 2011 to give famly lots of time to save up. So now I can start getting excited!!
So hopefully this will be the first post of many and believe me... I'm am gonna need lots of help (I'm a massive worrier!)

Hello from another UK Bride!
Chocolate is a way to every girls heart ay!
What you must remember is that its your wedding, and dont be pressured into something you dont want. You must follow your heart. I got lots of backlash about a disney wedding and purely its because half of the people hadnt been to disney before and thought it was tacky. well- i am gonig to prove them wrong!
Welcome to the boards, us DIS girls are always here if you need support! Hope you have a fun time with your planning!!

:wave2: Welcome and happy planning.
:grouphug: Sorry to hear about the backlash. A lot of brides on here go through something simmilar. If you stand your ground and do what you want, more often than not the haters will come around. My FMIL absoutely refuses to come to our wedding because it's too far away (and we're not even overseas!) but in the end, we decided that having our wedding be ours was more important than pleasing her. Seriously the best advice I got was to put on a pair of :cool2: and do your thing. It's your and your DF's wedding - no one elses.
You have lots of time, so hopefully your dad will come around once he sees that you're not backing down.
Good luck with everything!

First off, congrats on the engagement and the yummy chocolate. I was going to be a Oct 2011 dis bride but we're impatient and now it's 2010. Giving people a long time to save money is definitely smart and nice of you. People stink sometimes and you know what, if people don't want to "make the effort" they are not going to contribute to your wedding anyway. I know it seems awful to say that, but it's your day, and you are giving them the privilege to share that with you and if they reject it then they don't deserve to be there.

Aw thanks guys! You are all so sweet! :goodvibes
I can't believ how negative some people can be about something that is might to be fun for everyone! People seem to think that a wedding in Disney World will be some mega cheese-tack-fest! I had one friend ask if guests were required to wear costumes...:lmao:
I'm hoping that my Dad will eventually come round but to be honest its his choice if he doesnt want to come. I'm thinking that we want to have a rememorable day that we really enjoy and this is the way to do it!
I actually got my first Bride Magazine today and scared myself with all the info in it haha! Guess I'm lucky I've got so long to plan!
We are still unsure whether we want to do a Escape Wedding or a Wishes yet. I was all for the Escape at first, but the more and more I read about Wishes the more I want it!
At the moment we are torn between WP or SBP for the ceremony, Chris was blown away by WP and I'd really like to pick something that he would really like to stop me taking over everything, but I looooove SBP and think it would be so romantic! We are also really keen on a Desert Party which is what is making Wishes so attractive.
As for reception ideas we are a little stuck at the moment. I can't imagine that we will have loads of guests, probably no more than 20ish and think that maybe some of the rooms would be a little overwhelming? We both like the look of Jiko at the moment, but I have heard of people having recpetions in the Rainforst Cafe which might be cool, we want a laid back vibe. Not sure yet though...
The bit I'm getting excited about at the moment though (besides the dress which I'm guessing is still too early to buy) is the Heads Up / Save the Dates. I've had some cute ideas in mind, but the only think putting a downer on starting them is knowing that people arent keen on coming! I'm also weary about inivting lots of family as we only want very close family and friends there, but don't wnat to offend anyone by leaving them out. Arggh! :confused3
I think I might start compiling a really basic list and just go for it with the STD's, I want to get them out asap so people have plenty of time to save. Sooo excited!! :cutie:

Congrats!! Its your wedding and you will only do this once so do whatever you want to do. Once they are at the wedding they will have so much fun.
I am having a Reception once i get home for the people who could not go to Florida could still celebrate with us. Its something you could think about doing.

So we have told a few more people about our plans and FINALLY people have started getting excited, inlcuding my Mum which I'm delighted about! So far its looks like we will def have:
My mum
My Sister
My Aunt and her partner
My three best friends (also to be Bridesmaids)
Im still umming and ahhing over inviting more family, I have a big family and once I start inviting some I'll have to invite them all and we want to keep it small!
We are hoping to tell Chris's family soon. His Grandma passed away a couple of weeks ago and we still have the funeral so we want to give everyone some time.
It still doesnt quite feel like it could all be real, especially since its so far away. My friend wants to come over with a stack of Bride magazines tomorrow to commence the planning... so watch this space... :)

Hi! Welcome and happy planning!! I just wanted to let you know that you can have a dessert party with an escape wedding too! I wasn't sure if you knew that or not based on one of your posts. You can pretty much 'add' anything you want to an escape wedding that you could get in a wishes (at a cost ofcourse), except more guests at the ceremony from what I understand!
And like all the others here said, follow your heart!! It's your wedding, not theirs! :goodvibes

Ok so I'm really excited now as I think I've actually managed to post a pic! Wooo! Its taken me ages to figure out how to do this and I thought I was pretty good with computers...:confused3

So this is my gorgeous man and myself in DHS back in 2007, note the 1st Visit badges! We are heading back over to WDW next Septmeber (2010) I'm so freaking excited already and have really had to restrain myself from commencing planning. As you can see I'm not being as restrained with the wedding ideas!
Here is a more recent pic of us at our engagement Party in Mrach
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/EngagementParty010.jpg
I don't think its a great pic of either of us, but somehow we only got 2 pics of us together on the evening... enjoying my wine too much me thinks! ;)
Last but not least a pic that sums us up... This is how we roll(er disco!)
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/Rollerdisco024.jpg
Don't worry tho... I'm not planning on wearing any of this at the wedding...
I brought a big book today to start writing down some ideas I've been having. I know its sooo far away but I can't help myself! :goodvibes

Aah thanks my lovelies!
So I've been putting some stuff in my nifty planning book. Thanks for the heads up on the planning bible Torsie, I think I may look into getting that in a few months or so. At the moment I'm just trying to put everything into one place as I know I will forget everything if I don't! Have been thinking that it would be great to have a really bright colourful theme, particulary if we went for a photographer like Misty or Randy, their pics look so awesome with loads of colours!
Really excited as we are off to Tenerife in 20 days - woop! and then we are moving house when we get back! (all renting, too scared to buy yet, plus we have major saving to do!) Unfortunatly though I feel like I'm just wishing my life away at the moment.
I keep getting really excited about all the wedding stuff then think... hmm its still well over two years away!

05-09-2009, 01:03 PM
It'll come round quickly babes!
When I first thought of a date for my wedding it was 27 months away. And now its 22 months away. Still a long time, I know. But 5 months whizz by!! Especially as you have holidays and moving and stuff to think of!
I know when we get back from WDW (which is 18 months out) beofre we know it it'll only be a year away, and then when it's a year away it'll be panic stations!!

Ahh thanks Ann! I'm always forgetting things and losing things. I think I've printed hundreds of images off these boards already!
I know it will start to come around quickly, I'm just soo impatient!
Torsie - Just out of interest when did you first decide to contact Disney about Site Visit? We have got our trip back to WDW planned for next Sept (2010) and think this would be a great time to look at some sites! I'm really tempted just to call them to ask loads of questions but I've got a feeling I should restrain myself! :scared:

We done our site visit in March just gone- and our wedding is next november so thats like what 24+ months out? I think you can do it whenever, they ask you out of interest but it doesnt matter to them. They will show you around locations and talk to you about the wedding stuff but you cant do a ''planning session'' where you can really get into the details and even taste food and cake - but with us UK brides we cant just pop down to WDW for the afternoon to have a planning session so we miss out on the food tasting! haha!!

Just thought I'd stop by and say "welcome"! Congrats on your engagement and it's never too soon to start planning. Don't worry too much about your family... they'll come around eventually and if not then you're better off without them there anyways! I know 2011 sounds like a long way off but it will fly by. We got engaged in April 2008... so 32 months before our Dec 2010 wedding:lmao:, but we're almost down to 18 months out so it really will be here before you know it!

Hiya! Welcome! Like some of the other girls said, it's never too early to start planning! My DF and I started checking out the DL wedding sites probably 26 months before our tentative wedding date.
My MOH bought me a wedding bible about a month ago, and it's really helpful! So, definitely make sure you get your hands on one.
Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to hearing about all your plans! :goodvibes

Sooo... since I've had a bit of a rough week what with a funeral, I decided to pop in to the Bridal shop that is just around the corner from where I live and have made an appointment to try on a few dresses tomorrow! Wooo! I'm not planning on buying anything as its still too far out and I could be massively fat by the time its rolls round, but I'm hoping to get a better idea of what suits me! And of course to have loads of childish dressing up fun with my girls - :yay: Excited!
Thanks for all the info about site visits. I think I'll have a look around when we head over next Sept. I've been trying to get my head round whether it would be better to do a Wishes or an Escape package. I can't imagine that we will have more than 20 at the moment, so its not so much about numbers, but I'm thinking would it be more worthwhile to have the Wishes to have all the little extras (e.g. floral etc) and the reception sorted out? I'm guessing you have to book a Dessert Party on top of this? Do you think its actually possible to do a ceremony, reception and DP for the $12,000 minimum?! and also... are you allowed to add your own little touches like homemade centre pieces? I'm guessing its all has to be done through Disney??
Sooo many questions...!!
torsie24
05-15-2009, 05:56 PM
I sometimes wonder about doing escape as opposed to wshes, but to be honest I think if I did escape it would come out above the $12k minimum anyway!
Wishes encapsulates everything basically, so ceremony, rception, DP, floral, transport, food etc. And depending when you have it (I'm going weekday, low seaon) there is a minimum amount all of that undle ahs to come to. (For us it's gonna be about $12k depending on if prices change - weekends are $25k!!)
But for an escape package at the wedding pavillion it is over $6k plus and extra $500 as we'll have over the 18 guests, plus reception location and food, plus dessert party location and food, plus extra transport and music etc. I'm pretty sure wishes is the better option.
Have fun with the dresses tomorrow!! :bride:

Hi Guys!
Wedding dress shopping is sooo much fun. I went for the first time on Sat afternoon with two of my closest friends (who are gonna be BMs) It was a local shop just round the corner from my house. I went in with a completely clear head as I have no idea of what suits me and what doesn't. When we arrived the lady told me to pick out a few dresses to get me started. With the help of my trusty BM's I think I picked out about 5/6 dresses, tried to get some varying styles, a sweetheart neckline here an A line there, a massive princessy one, even a fishtail (very Ariel)
Trying them on was fantastic! I partciaulry liked wearing the hoop and making the dresses extra poofy! I dont have pics of all the dresses as they are on my friends phone, but I do have pics of my two fav ones.
The first being the sweetheart neckline...
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/Photo0084.jpg
I'm not particulary keen on the skirt or the gold threading, but I LOVE the shape of the top half!
After a few more dresses I tried one on with a rouched skirt, I loved the skirt but not the top half. When I said this to the lady , she said that she had a dress in mind that she thought I would love, so she told me to turn away from the mirror and not to look until it was all done up...
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/Photo0100.jpg
This isn't a great pic of the dress to be honest, my friend has a much better one, which I will put up when I get. I really really liked this dress but I didnt feel an amazing "Oh my Gos, this is the one" feeling. But with over two years to go, that doesnt matter!
Just to feel extra dressy I also tried on a veil - I am LOVING the veils!
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/Photo0104.jpg
Overall it was such a great day, I'm def going to be doing lots more of these!!
In other news, my dad called me and has said that he will be coming to the wedding! I knew he would come around. Ive also had other people that werent so keen suddenly become very intersted. No one can resist the Disney magic! HA! :wizard:
I have also been scouring the net and Brides mags for more ideas. I'll put some of my ideas up soon. Knowing me tho I'll change my mind. - While I'm here I was just wondering whether anyone knew - do you get the 4 night accomdation in the Wishes Package that you get in the Escape? Does this 4 night accomdation think still happen? I'm getting confused with all the random info Ive been reading!!

Wow! Beautiful photos! :) You look lovely in both dresses! :)
I love how the shop gave you a bouquet to hold too!! Very good for effect!
Trying a veil on for the first time was more fun for me that having a dresses on in a funny way, very fun and VERY bridey. :)

Hi! Welcome to the planning process! I haven't tried any dresses on yet but your pictures make it look so fun I'm slighlty jealous! I'm with you on Sea Breeze Point, that's my choice too. The WP is lovely, and it's iconic and I get that, but SBP is just so beautiful. LOVE IT. :lovestruc Best of luck with the rest of your planning!

Hello... I'm back!
Been off the boards for quite a while due to going on holiday and moving house, just got my broadband back yesterday so I've been catching up reading everyomes threads!
We are pretty much settled in our love;y new house now which means I can go back to manically planning again! I havent really done much planning at all, although I did buy a necklace whilst in Tenerife that could be a serious contender to wear on the Big Day. I also recived the info pack that Disney send out to you and got very excited. Haha!
My main concern at the moment is making sure we are puttng money by, especially as moving house has not been kind to my bank account. Im also in need of a new car! Arrggh!
So its back to the planning we go...

So, this is what I've been thinking so far...
I want COLOURS! Major colour!
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/WeddingColours.jpg
It may look a bit mad, but Im thinking I'd like the main colours to be Fuschia, Orange and Purple. I LOVE purple.
I have also found these colours and thought they look lovely...
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/BlueandPurple.jpg
I really like the blue, but still am slightly more attracted to the first one.
Along with these colours I'd like my Bridemaids to have brightly coloured dresses and ones that arent too formal, like so...
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/pinkdress.jpg
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/purpledress.jpg
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/orangedress.jpg
I'd still like to wear a white dress tho, or perhaps something ivory / gold. Chris has said that he'd like to wear an orange tie, so I'll have to figure what I can wear that goes with that...
Maybe I should just go all out and get a massive purple dress?!? :)

The accommodation thing that you mentioned previously for escape and wishes weddings isn't something that Disney gives you. The 4 nights for escape packages is what you and your wedding party are required to book. If that makes sense, for Wishes packages it's 25 nights. Once you've got the 25 nights booked Disney gives the bride and groom a free night. - If that makes any sense at all! :rotfl:
Haveyou seen the movie "confessions of a shopaholic"? I love the bridesmaid dresses in it, and if it suited what I was going for I'd completely have them! I'm still considering trying to work out a way to have the under skirts under my dress.

Hi from another UK 2011 bride ( well it's a Vow Remewal really but takes the same planning)
I am planning an Escape package for 3 May 2011 (hopefully - drat that 8 month mark!!!) with a few upgrades. I have contacted Randy for photography and am in the process of sending his deposit away. I also plan (at this stage) to upgrade to a 'Mad Hatter cake which at the moment will be an extra $250.00, though will probably be more than that when the time comes!!!
I am hoping for SPB at 2.30pm with dinner at 5.30pm at the Yachtsman Steakhouse and a dessert party later at Epcot. I guess it depends on how many guests I end up with as to where that will actually be!! I will be inviting 15 excluding DH and myself but could well end up with just 7 or 8.
I know that 2011 is a long way off but we will support each other kid!! You seem further along with your planning than me and I really must start a PJ

I'm majorly excited that I managed to do this 'multi quote thing' - yay!
Anyways, I keep having mini panic attacks about money. So I have been merrily planning away in my little planning book... here it is...
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/wedding001-1-1.jpg
a mere £2.50 from Tesco...
and here are a couple of bits from inside...
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/wedding002.jpg
Yes this shows about a million Maggie Sottero dresses, altho I'm pretty sure I won't end up wearing a Maggie dress due to the sheer cost!
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/wedding003.jpg
Here are some of my ideas for flowers/boquets/etc. However since doing this I've found some absolutley gorgeous flowers and as Im not a flower gal I have no idea what they are... any ideas!?
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/purpleroses.jpg
Are they roses?! or am I being really stupid!?
and here are some some other bits and I've stolen from the internet!
http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv8/creaser_album/wedding004.jpg
I love love love SBP and would really love to get married outside as its got the laid back feel we want and it would look awesome all decorated with colours!
In other news, I went a bit mad this morning and got a new car! :woohoo: I've been looking for one for a while and found one I really like last night on a website. Im slightly scared about paying it off alongside trying to save for the wedding and continue paying for this house etc but on the other hand I'm reaaaally happy because my other car is unlikely to pass its MOT and would cost way more than its worth to fix, plus its a beauty!
Just out of interest, do cars have to have a MOT in the USA? Evrytime I watch Pimp My Ride the cars look like they are falling to pieces and over here if your car looked like that you'd get pulled over and have your car taken away!
Anywho, more updates soon... ;)

I think they're peony roses. They're very pretty :lovestruc.
What sort of car have you bought? I'd love a new car, but I'm still paying off the one I've got and I don't think I'd be able to sell it for what I still owe on it! :lmao:

Congrats on the new car!! Always a good feeling. I know what you mean about worrying about saving up - I think we're all going through it, but the way I look at it is that it will all work out one way or another!!:goodvibes

Thanks! I wanted something a bit different and I'm not keen on very long formal dresses epecially if its nice and sunny (fingers crossed!)

So on Friday I was passing through the mall in Reading when I decided to have a wander to the Bridal shop that I know is hidden away upstairs and while I was there I decided to book an appointment to try on some dresses the next day. Seeing that I loved it so much last time, I thought it would be fun to do it again... and it was!! :thumbsup2
I decided that I really love sweetheart neckline and pick up skirts so I'd taken a couple of pics in of dresses that I liked the look of and left it in the hands of the lovely sales lady.
The first dress I tried on is from Ellis and I absolutley LOVE it...

This the just the style I wanted as it has the gorgeous skirt put its not too poofy I also tried a veil with it which looked gorgeous, but as Im pulling such goofy faces I'm not putting up the pic!
Next was this stunning dress by Essense

I wasnt really expecting to like this one, as I didnt think straps would look good, but I fell a lil bit in love with it...
I can't remember what this one is, but it was a bit slinky for my liking, lovely as soft though.

This dress was also very pretty, it is Alan Hannah and is made from Thai Silk. I thought it would be interesting to try on a more simple dress so I could go mad on accessories if I wanted to, like a massive necklice or a massive bird on my head like Carrie in Sex and the City! (especially as the colour scheme is sooo bright) Here it is...

I thought it was pretty and tried it on with a floor length veil and some random tiaras! But was as keen as the first two dresses.

Check out this random flowery hairband...

Would better without the veil me thinks...
So overall I really really love the first two dresses and Im lucky enough that I still have lots of time to try on even more beautiful dresses!! :woohoo:
