We'll be there between Jan 21-31. I've already booked the 3bedroom treetop villa at SSR but I am thinking I am going to be changing to OKW or AKL Villas. My big issue was the long walk to SSR from the treetops, from what the disney agent said it's about a 15-20min walk to SSR to catch the buses and use the pool. Yikes! With three tired cranky kids i'm not sure that will work for us. Has anyone been in that area before? If so what is the walk really like?

YIKES...6 months to wait! That's a long time! Hoping for free dining, but the 4/3 would be great, too! That was a awesome deal last Jan (along with the $200 GC). Free dining would be better for us, especially because I REALLY want to do 8 nights this trip!! 6 was not NEARLY long enough.

Count me in, as we're looking for a 1/2010 deal to stay on-site (this will be our first time on property) as well!

What's the 4/3 deal people are referring to (4 nights for the price of 3?). Will we see deals in this thread on DVC (timeshare rentals) or just WDW hotels?

Count us in as well. If we can get a good code for January my DH said we can change our April/May trip to January trip. I would love to be there for on my DS10's birthday and mine. If they have a good deal we are looking at January 8 (DS's birthday) - 16, 2010.

Toying with the idea of a January trip to celebrate my son's "homecoming day" anniversary. My only concern is the iffy temps. I have been in January several times and the weather was different everytime. DS LOVES to be in the water so swimming could be dicey then.
A good code code could go a long way in convincing me to go!

We're going Jan 22-30. :cool1:

We're renting points for the bulk of our stay so codes won't help for that.

Last year the room only discounts weren't good on weekends. Is there any chance that a code or discount would be good for a Fri/Sat stay? I think there might be a 3 night min.

I'll hang out and watch anyway. I hope there are good discounts and codes for the rest of you even if I can't use one.

Actually, we did get the discounted rate for weekends. All of our nights were the same price. I think that there was a problem with ressies made online being charged the higher rate. We booked by phone.

Hi all, Can I join in as well.

So I am not looking for me but for my very good friends.

We are all flying from Sydney at Christmas, and spending NYE in Las Vegas. My friends will then be heading over to WDW from the 2nd-12th Jan before heading up to Canada to join us to go skiing.

Although I wish we could go back to WDW my DH said NO:scared1: But thats OK because I still get to go to DL.
So I keep jumping between the DL boards and the WDW boards.
My friend has asked me to book her whole holiday for her and her family.

At this stage they are looking at a value-probably POP (because I said so:laughing:) but if the Australian dollar keeps getting stronger and if there is a great discount then I will try and convince them to stay at a Moderate:thumbsup2

If we have already booked and a deal comes out like the 4/3, can you call and have them credit you for the differene? Or do you have to wait until the deal comes out to book?

In the past, if a better deal came out and you called the CM would cancel the old reservation and create a new one, if there was availability.

What seems to be better, the bounce back rates or the code like a buy 4 get 3 deal?

We've never taken up the bounce back offer, but hope to this time b/c we are planning another trip in February to stay at the Contemporary again.

It depends what offers we get for January 2010! It seems like bouncebacks are a sure bet, where if you wait for codes, you never know. In another thread, someone said they got 30% off deluxe as their BB.

I'm waiting, as well. We're going to be there for Marathon Weekend (running the full marathon and hopefully the 5K - we did the half marathon this year and HAD TO HAVE that coveted Mickey medal, so we're going back :lmao:) and are likely staying at POP to make it easier for the WISH meets, and to save a bit of money. My (soon-to-be) husband only will have 2 holiday days at that point, because we're getting married this summer and he's dipping into his holiday days for next year for that, but if there's a good enough discount code for January, then I'm going to do a full week at WDW without him. :rotfl:

I'm waiting for 2010 prices to come out to book (we're not too concerned about POP non-preferred filling up by August :rotfl:) and will likely just book 3 nights room only, but will be crossing my fingers for a good deal! We had to let 4/3 pass last year because of a lack of holiday days to stay for a full week, but I'm not going to do it again!

You can book a "room only" ressie right now for Janaury by calling Disney. They will charge you peak season rates and then make the adjustments later when the 2010 rates come out. You can not book online for 2010 yet. Last year the rates/packages came out in August. That's when you will be able to book online and book a whole package. Then in November was when the 4/3 deal came out.

latenitedrivethru

Online Jan booking is currently available through the Marathon weekend site on Disney's Wide World of Sports

Room rates are at the value season rates, which range from $82/night to $399/night.

Go to disneyworldmarathon.com

Select travel details/packages

This online booking only allows the Magic Your Way packages; no room only reservations can be booked.

Any Jan dates can be selected, so you don't need to be a marathon participant if you want Jan reservations now.

I'm letting smallworldvacations.com take care of my trip planning, I'm holding a space at Pop for me and my DH Jan 19-26 after the Marathon and after MLK weekend. Hoping for free dining, or the 4/3 Deal.... So excited, mid 70s for us will be ideal as end of May was a steamy, raining, & hot. So excited glad i found this thread. Can anyone tell me more about crowds and ride waits for third week of Jan? Missed Space Mountain and People mover so have to go back!

I've been lurking on this tread for a couple of days. I just called and booked Jan 9-16 this morning and the lady said my standard room value season ressie at Caribbean Beach was $205.00 per night. I checked a rate schedule I had and that rate is peak season rate for christmas 2009. I asked to verify and she said that was in fact 2010 rates, but thanks to you guys I know she is mistaken and it will be adjusted come Aug.

One question though? How does Disney contact you to adjust the rate as I wanna try to snag a AAA rate when they become available.

Question about the codes and booking rooms..

If you were to make reservations now for January and then in a few months they come out with another 4/3 deal (or something similar) am I able to change my existing reservations to the deal?

Please let me know if that didn't make sense..

We booked for POP Jan 19-28 also value season and they charged us $137 +tx for our room deposit...way over their current value rate (we only had to pay the current value rate 1 night deposit last time:confused3) so I guess they are doing it to every resort. They said that it is the only rate that the computer is currently generating for 2010 reservations.

As to get the AAA rate, when the actual 2010 rates are posted, I believe sometime in August, you have to call back and get them to update your reservation...they will be able to make sure that your nightly rate is corrected to the new room rates at that time too. You will need your AAA # when you call.

We have decided to look at it this way: We have currently paid more than double just for deposit so when the rates are adjusted and our CAA applied, we have already paid for 2nights +.....HOPEFULLY! (because if the rates go up that much, I don't think that we will be going for 10 days:sad1:)

I know historically they've always offered SOMETHING in Jan. What's the usual % off that they've offered?

I'm hoping it's at least 40% off the hotel. I'm not much for the ticket upgrades they've offered. We usually don't do the waterparks anyway so it's not a big deal if it's free.

I'm REALLY hoping for another 4/3 deal but if not I'm crossing my fingers for a decent hotel discount at the least.

Only about 4 more months to impatiently wait...:rolleyes1

I' ll join you code watchers, we have a trip planned for 1/27 to 2/5. We even booked our flights already as we will be flying from Germany. :goodvibes

Regarding codes in recent years: I have been to WDW three times in that time frame so far since 2007. The first two years we got the water park ticket upgrade package and I did the math on it, the discount for the room rate alone was around 20%. We were staying at AKL then.

Any advice about training, I have a 17 minute mile now, and need to build up endurance.

The summer discounts look good. :)

For training advice head over to the WISH section at the bottom of all the threads and Events and Competitions. You'll find a heap of lovely people all eager to chat about training, races and the latest tech stuff/munchies!

HI, We are at POP too Jan 19-26, we'll be neighbors, what building are you requesting?
I booked with smallworldvacations.com because I could find so little on how to book outside of the allowed or open time on disneyworld.com. They told me that I could book the space, which is what you did as well. They said the deposit is at the most expensive rate for 1 night using the 2009 rates. Then when Jan 2010 rates are released, you're depsoit is refunded to you or adjusted and put towards the new VALUE resort rate (or whatever resort your at). But yes our dates are in the VALUE time so we should get better rates!
I'm more worried about how good of a discount it'll be since we are kinda chancing it by waiting. I'm from oregon so i really need to book my airfare early to get a good deal of $250 RT PP. if i wait i'm screwed and yet, if the 2010 Deal at WDW isn't 40% or 4/3..I dont' think i can go.... You know you should contact one of the travel agencies that only do WDW vacations. It eleviated a lot of my worrying over If i'd get my room, when would the rates come out, they were much better at making me not worry.

Trying to get a confrimed month from husband! He is on board to go, just not sure what month...most probably Jan 2010...Hoping for a code...I am sure something will be out there!

Want to go this fall, too, but with daughter's HS volleyball season, it looks like that will not happen!

Thanks this gives me hope, i've blindly got a "HOLD the room" ressie in for Jan 19-26, 2010 at POP. In hopes of something anything, and did a Hold just because i'm afraid if i don't when and if a "Deal" comes out they will book up fast.... *crossed fingers*

I did a room only ressie too and I won't be booking a package in August when the rates come out for 2010. We'll have to wait until October/November and see if anything good is released before we make it a package. We've already decided if no discount/deal is released our trip will have to be pushed back to Jan 2011 :scared1:

Well, I guess I'm jumping in here! I haven't been reading or posting here since coming back from our trip last Nov, I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm back now! We've been going in Nov, as least the last three years, but now DD19 can't go until Xmas break, no missing school anymore in college! No other time to go really, summer is way too hot! So, January it is and I'm glad to have found this Jan code watch thread! We want to go Jan 2nd to the 10th and stay at our usual CBR! :yay:

So, I've got some questions, hopefully that's okay! :goodvibes Last time we went Jan 1st to the 10th, 2005(right at the time of that awful Tsunami), the weather was really nice, but I think it was an unexpected warm spell. That year in Jan the crowds were really low and it was value time, it was great. We are used to relatively low crowds when we go in Nov, too, so hope that is still the same. Is it still generally low crowds just after new years? And, anyone know how the weather usually is? Boy, the last couple Novs were really cold, like wear your coat and still shiver cold, especially at night last year, wow! And, this will be right after Xmas, so the decorations should still be up, right? And the Osbourn lights at DHS for at least a few days? The last few years in Nov we did the MVMCP which is awesome and we'll really miss that this time for sure! Do they still have the Xmas parade a few days after new years or not? As I remember they had the decorations and lights and parade for a few days, but I could be wrong. We were able to also see Osbourn lights in Nov until last year. I know this is a lot but hope someone can help with some answers! And, here's a few more! :)
If they were to have the 4/3 deal in Jan, could I add one more night? We want to stay 8 nights, usually do 9 - 10, but not enough time. But, with the deal, is it very strict on only 7 total nights or do they let you add? I would think so, they always want my money, but you never know.
Also, for two at CBR, is it better for FD or this kind of deaL? We had FD last Nov and it was really yummy and seemed a great deal! ;)

We're thinking of the last week in Jan. We'd planning on the Polynesian so a code or 4/3 deal or free dining would be VERY helpful!
How much is it normally to go there? Isn't it like almost 400.00 a night? Hmm, that wouldn't work even with the deal, I guess.

What is Marathon weekend and how will it affect crowds then?

Okay, done for the moment! Again, sorry if it's way too long, I'll try to be more brief in my other posts! Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it! I'm getting geared up for setting up our next trip so excited to find this thread, as I said! After talking to several people this week who just went or are going right now, I got inspired to come look and start now!:goodvibes

As far as adding an extra night, yes they want your money! I think people were even able to buy 8 nights, get 6 free but I'm not 100% sure...now that I think about it, they may have had to make 2 different ressies, especially to get 2 $200 CG's! For our family, the free dining would've been a little bit better, only because our youngest is free. Now this year he'll be 3, so it'll probably work out pretty close to even! I'll take either!
From what I've heard from others, I don't think the crowds that week are bad, and I've heard the marathon doesn't really affect the crowds too much! I spoke to my travel agent who said that the 4/3 is more than likely going to be the deal in Jan to spring months.

The deal will come out in Oct/Nov.

I have friends that just came back from the forth of July, they walked on every ride....not a good sign for Disney....but maybe they will be pushing more deals this winter, when it is historically a slow season.

One can only hope.........:rolleyes1

Not quite...room and tickets are free for the 3 nights (though the additional 3 days on the ticket was laughable - it's like $4 or something)...but you still have to pay for the dining for the whole trip - the 3 nights are not free for that.

Also the first part of the year (I want to say January through March but I could be wrong) people also got 1 $200 gift card per room as an added bonus.

I think I would rather have the free dining. I put some numbers together based on last years rates and come up with this. It will be me and my mother in my room. I realize it is last years rates on everything but all in all it looks like free dining is great. See if I am missing something:

4/3 plan

Room:
3x92.00(MLK weekend)= 276.00
1x82.00= 82.00
total room 358.00
Tax 13.5% 48.33
Total 406.33

2 - 4 day PHP= 572.98

7 day DDP
40.00 per person
2 people 560.00

Total for 2 adults 4/3 $1539.00

Free Dining Plan

3x92.00 276.00
4x82.00 328.00
Total 604.00
Tax 13.5% 81.54
Total for 2 adults 685.54

2 - 7 day PHP 592.14

Total for 2 adults 1277.68

I think your numbers are correct, but you missed the 200 $ gift card. :goodvibes We did not get the dining plan (I acctually love being more flexible with my meals), but used the gift card towards our food.

Free dining is a great deal if you are staying at the value resorts and/or have more persons in your room. However, for us, who are two adults planning to stay at a deluxe resort, a room discount will work out like a better saving and the 4+3 was in the end like a room discount.

By the way, there has been talk about ticket prices going up on 8/2 - historically the ticket price increase and the release of next years resort rates has been on the same day. So I guess on 8/2 we will at least be able to see the rack rates! :thumbsup2

ok.. so I'm confused.. can someone help me? I've never taken advantage of any of these codes before.. didn't know you could call after you book.

I've already booked 5 nights and 4 days. (Jan. 6th -11th) for two adults. We bought our plane tickets separately, direct from the airlines. We booked our hotel through Disney and bought parkhoppers.

is there any way to take advantage of a 4/3? probably not right? I can't add any more days... but can I get one free? Or am I miscounting?

I'm never good with the day/night thing.... this is why I don't make the reservations.

I already had AP's so I just bought 1 day tickets required for the package rather than pay the cost of the 4 day tickets to get the $9.

Did you actually buy the park hoppers seperate from your room reservation? The 4/3 deal required the purchase of at least 1 day tickets but those tickets don't expire until 14 days from 1st use. I still have one day tickets from my trip last January that are still good because I didn't use them on that trip.

Last year you could get the 5th night free but I think they also had some other deals that might have worked better if you weren't staying 7 nights.

We got the park hoppers online, separate from the hotel.. I think... My partner did it.. I was in the room but not paying attention. I was too busy happy dancing. Pretty sure she bought the airline tickets from US Air, bought the park hoppers from the Disney Website, and then called for the hotel ressie.

Hmm...I'm thinking that if the tickets were bought seperately from the hotel, you may be out of luck. BUT if you bought the hotel and tickets as a "package", when the deals come out, you could maybe cancel your room-only and tickets, then buy the 4/3-you're right, you'd only get one night of hotel and tickets free, (if you're staying value, would save you about $95, more if you're staying med or deluxe)) but if they're offering the $200 gift card, you'd get that, too. You may want to just call Disney and see how everything was booked and what the CM says!

Don't worry, historically there have always been discounts for room only reservations as well as for packages. But the package discounts tend to come out earlier. You have a room only reservation, you cannont book packages for 2010 yet. And since ticket prices are rumored to go up on 8/2 you at least won't be affected by that increase! :goodvibes

Best thing to do is to monitor this thread and mousesavers.com and the news on the DIS homepage (http://www.wdwinfo.com/) and you will most likely find out when those discounts will become available on the day they appear. Then you just call Disney and change your reservation to apply the code. Technically you book a new reservation and the old one gets cancelled. Since a room only reservation can be cancelled until 5 days prior to arrival without any penalty, don't worry about the cancelling involved in this. Room only discounts have recently been very good - up to 43%. So this might work out much better for a 5 nights stay than the 4+3 package deal anyway since for you it would work out only as 4+1. mousesavers.com is a general good source about the out and ins of discounts, so perhaps you might want to check that out! :goodvibes Hope I could help to reduce the confusion!

Just my observation, last year, I found that the Dis'ers got the discount info posted here a few hours ahead of when it was posted on mousesavers.com. I think people wake up in the wee hours of the morning to start harrassing the CM's for the info...:lmao:

4/3 plan

Room:
3x92.00(MLK weekend)= 276.00
1x82.00= 82.00
total room 358.00
Tax 13.5% 48.33
Total 406.33

2 - 4 day PHP= 572.98

7 day DDP
40.00 per person
2 people 560.00

Total for 2 adults 4/3 $1539.00

Free Dining Plan

3x92.00 276.00
4x82.00 328.00
Total 604.00
Tax 13.5% 81.54
Total for 2 adults 685.54

2 - 7 day PHP 592.14

Total for 2 adults 1277.68

The only thing I see (and I could be wrong...is that the tix included in the *deal* are basic MYW tix - NO HOPPER! If you want hoppers you have to pay the extra on ALL 7 days! But, like I said, I could be wrong!

I am pretty sure this is the correct price for the PHP. At least it is the price on Deb Wills' site. She lists the price as $296.07 for 7 day PHP for adult and $258.80 for a child. I just rounded off.

See siggie--DH says January (after my free dining pin expires and after DD turns 3 in Dec). Oh well. Better late than never....

I'm sure it's in the thread somewhere--any ideas when we can start to book for Jan? I'm thinking Aug 1.

You can book a room only ressie right now if you want. If you want to book a package the rates won't be out until August sometime. We're all waiting and watching to find out if the rates are going up for 2010.

Join us over on the January 2010 planning thread :goodvibes The link is in my siggie.

Just booked my stay and I am bouncing off of the walls excited. Booked Jan 23rd thru Jan 30th CR tower MK view. Now bring on those deals. I am trying not to get too excited because 7/4 deal did not come out last year until Nov6th but with the economy the way that it is I am hoping the deals will come out sooner! Also looks like for us that the 40% off would be a better deal but either will work.:woohoo: :woohoo::hyper::hyper::dancer:party:

August has been the time the rack rates for the next year were released in the previous years, codes for January and February historically came out in late October/early November. Mousesavers has all the information on that.

I doubt that Disney will come out with general public codes any earlier. I think they want to be within a certain time frame to evaluate long term booking before they come out. However, they tend to send of individual pins quite ahead of time. I would not be surprised if the first pin codes for 2010 will be sent out in August or September.

so, I am correct to understand that if I book a "rack rate" for january but then a better offer or an AP rate comes out I can upgrade my booking to the new rate? Is that the same if you book a package as well?
I have an AP so it will probably not be a package but I was just wondering?
Also, does anyone know if it's true that APholders can now add the DDP onto the room w/out park tickets?

Sharon,

I believe at this point you can only book a Room with no package so the Payment is equal to a one nights stay. So if you are at Pop and you book a room for $120 with taxes a night you just pay the $120.

I just booked a room at POP for Jan 30-Feb 6th. They charged me a flat $200 deposit. My room total was $1340 or something like that since they have to charge the highest rate for 2008. Once 2009 rates come out in a few weeks, it will automatically be adjusted to the new rate & you should get an email on this. Also, at that time you should be notified you can convert to a package and add dining, tickets if you choose.

Technically I think you would cancel your existing reservation after you booked a new one. If you have an AP you would book room only anyway and that can be cancelled up to 5 days before travel I think. Packages can only be cancelled until 45 days before arrival. So I think any changes to your reservation later might cause a charge.

I completely agree. I remember thinking we were doing CSR Club and then suddenly we ended up at AKL because there weren't any "regular" rooms left for the discount at CSR. I mean, yeah, we upgraded resorts but it wasn't ANY better - just in one building. The transportation was so different from CSR...now we are not changing no matter what! But still...it's nice to have things firmed up before 60 days out!!!

Right now you can only book room only. The package rates don't come out until early August (usually). The thinking is if there is a specific resort or room type you want, book now. Once the package rates are released, you can change to a package, but you are now guaranteed the room type you booked prior.

The actual 'discount' type codes usually don't come out for January dates until late fall sometime. It's best to book now, modify later :goodvibes

The actual room rates for January (for these days anyhow) are $82/night (tues-thurs) $92/night (fri-sat) $82/night (sun-thurs). at Pop. Can't wait to call and add my CAA(AAA)discount!

This made me very very happy when I logged in this morning:cool1: Other than the higher weekend rate, this is the same price we paid in 2008! when I first booked for this year, I had to pay $152-for one nights deposit...that was a concern...thought we would have to take a few days off the plan...but now we might add and extra!!!!!:thumbsup2:woohoo:

It went down $379.14. I am happy with that.

Ok, dumb question.

When I got the new email with my new AAA rates...

On the bottom is Deposit Information:

Amt Received: $700.

So, do I actually need to make that $83.40, or is that covered by the $700. Not really an issue, I can pay it, but I'll be calling to make another gift card payment (I've been saving up survey rewards/disney gift cards since may08 and call whenever I get a new one...) mid August and since they don't have an 800 number, would like to call only once.

Thanks!

I need advice!!

So DH and I are returning to WDW January 22-29.

If there is a great code (4/3 or 40% off) we will be staying at Wilderness Lodge.

If not, we'll go with a mod or a value, we don't really care where.

Sooo, my question is:

Should we book Wilderness Lodge when the package rates come out, and later down the road in November when codes/discounts come out, either apply the discount or switch the room?

OR should we just book a mod or value and if a good code comes out to keep our trip under budget, we switch to Wilderness Lodge?

Also, I've read from recent posts that Disney will most likely NOT offer the 4/3 discount again, as they only do it when the tourist industry needs a real boost (aka post-9/11 or the beginning of this year).

How likely do you guys think it'll be that Disney releases a decent promotion, as opposed to free upgraded tickets or something like that?

TIA for your advice!!!

I think nobody can say for sure what Disney will offer. The discounts have one reason: get more people to come to WDW. So they are a reaction to how many rooms have already been booked. If this number is low, the discounts will be better for us. If most rooms are already booked, there is no need for deep discounts. Since nobody can say for sure, how the economy will develop and what it will make people do about their vacation dollars, I think everything is still possible. My personal guess would be that there will not be free dining in early 2010 since Disney would not want people to expect free dining as the standard discount. But I am quite confident there will be something. Even in 2008 the January packaged did not only include the Water Park & Fun ticket option for free, but also a dicount on the room which worked out to be around 20% for us at AKL.

For your problem: If you really don't mind which value or moderate, I would suggest not to book anything at all until November. Around that time the discounts should be published. By not booking, you will make Disney believe that you won't come and according to my theory above, that would be one tiny step towards better discounts for everyone! :goodvibes

But if you want to get your best chance for a room at WL I would book it now. When we had booked an AKL pool view room in 2008 but the discount for our time was only available for standard view, the CM was able to work around that and get us a discounted pool view room so that we could keep our room category. That might not work always like that, but I think for us it was only possible because we had the previous reservation.

Hmmm, I was just wondering if you're sure about the holiday rate? I was looking at Mousesavers and for this year at least, they have holiday rates from Dec 18 - 31, and back in Jan, value rates started on Jan 1st. That's how it was several years ago when we went on Jan 1st. So, I was just wondering if that's new and a definite thing or what, since we are going on Jan 2 - 10. Plus, do they still charge you the same rate you got on the first day of the trip, so you have to split into two ressies to take advantage of the switch in season rates? Actually, I'm hoping for maybe the buy 4, get 3 free deal, and paying for the extra night we need the first night since our trip is 8 nights! :goodvibes

Edited: Arrggh! I just saw the new seasons at Mousesavers! Dang it! I don't like that, lol! Plus, Thurs Jan 7 is a weekend night! Some value season, yikes. If there's no good deals eventually, this will be tough!

I think they've raised the prices for the dining plan too. I was fooling around on the Disney site and it's higher for the QSDDP than the prices were last year:headache:. Disney might be pushing my trip to Jan 2011 if they don't release any good codes for Jan 2010. :sad2:

What do you think the QS dining is going up to?

Follow this thread for a discussion on the increase in the dining plan. I found it on the attractions forum.

Edited: Arrggh! I just saw the new seasons at Mousesavers! Dang it! I don't like that, lol! Plus, Thurs Jan 7 is a weekend night! Some value season, yikes. If there's no good deals eventually, this will be tough!

Yeah, what's up with Jan. 7th??

Yeah, what's up with Jan. 7th??

Marathon Weekend. 5K on Friday morning, half marathon Saturday morning and marathon Sunday morning. In addition to increasing fees for races, Disney is also "expanding" the weekend rates to make those participating (and others) pay a little more for on-site hotels.

Yeah, it says Thursday is part of Marathon weekend. But, what I don't get, I'm already there, and not for marathon weekend! I don't see why I need to pay more to be there for Marathon weekend, or at least marathon thursday, sort of like anyone still there on that night is 'punished' or stuck with paying the price for a special weekend event they aren't even apart of. The prices on marathon weekend friday and saturday are the same as the other weekend prices, not special marathon prices. And, it's not an event available in the parks for all guests to choose to do or not. Do they do that for things like Star Wars Weekend or Super Soap Weekend or F & W or the flower one(name?)? They never have while I've been there at least. At least those things are events any guest could take part in if they just happen to be there, but with the marathon, you need to be ready to do that specifically, you don't just go run on a whim, but you still have to pay a bit extra to be there then and I guess that's what I resent. If that extra fee was charged only to registered marathon guests there on that Thurs, that might make more sense. And, if they do run, say a 4/3 sort of deal, will that be allowed to be used on a trip that say, goes from Jan 2 - 10? Hopefully so!!! Gosh, I hope it's not crazy busy late that week and weekend! :scared1: Okay, sorry for the rant, lol, it's just the priniciple of the thing. :goodvibes

I wonder if marathon participants are eligible for room/package discounts? That would really make the 'Thursday is weekend' room charge odd.

Is the Sunday of MLK weekend at the weekend rate? the Thursday before?

the prices are higher due to the increase in people that will be down there. just like holiday weekends, etc. same way people are punished if they go a holiday week ;) more people means disney can up the prices. star wars weekends and super soap weekends don't bring the tens of thousands of extra people that the marathon does. the rest of january is normal price if that's an option?

Marathon events begin on Thursday, that is why the rates start that night. Disney offers a few special packages for participants, but they are not really a bargain, just packaged together.

I don't believe the Parks are much busier, as people are focused on their race performance and then recovery, they don't generally spend alot of time in the Parks. Since it is a light time for attendance anyway, I doubt it will seem crowded to you.

What you will see at the resorts, Parks, and DTD are people proudly wearing their medals -- feel free to congratulate them! Donald = Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Mickey = Full Marathon (26.2 miles), Goofy = completed both Half and Full!

I too was hoping to get a discounted rate as part of a marathon package, only to find out that the Thursday rate is the same as the weekend rate. That would stink to a non-marathoner!!

I booked POR 1/7-1/13. I am hoping that I can get the rate down a bit once AP and AAA come out for that time period. FD or 3/4 would be awesome!! :goodvibes

AAA rates are out, but not AP yet. I thought I only saved $40, but I just noticed my POR reservation is for "water view", and I requested standard. I'm going to call and see if I can get a AAA room at the standard rate -- then I should have a great savings!

It is interesting that they finally started charging more, but it makes sense. Since they started charging more for weekends when the hotels are more in demand, they are more in demand that weekend. It's a high hotel booking time, but unlike the holidays or school breaks, it won't translate to high park visits. Many people go down just for the race, and don't spend the time at the park. Running a half is tough on the body, not to mention doing a full, never mind going to the parks for the rest of the day. You will see plenty of people limping around after the full marathon, but just to go get dinner or shop. It may be tough for the non runners, but the parks are still considered value season, even though the hotels are closer to high season, so I imagine they decided they might as well compensate.

I must be the exception to this (well me and tons of other marathoners I saw Sunday). I was out late Sat. night and back in the parks just after my shower Sunday (my 1st full marathon too). It's funny, on the bus Sunday night going back to the resort I was standing (no seats left) and some family was standing in front of me. I had my medal around my neck so they could tell I did the race. The dad starts talking about how no runners would be in the parks Sunday or Monday since we'd all be to sore. LOL, I was standing right there trying so hard not to laugh. Sure many are sore and may opt to stay at the hotel but I was right there I swear he was looking at me while he said it. :rotfl2:

Anyway, back to the topic - Bring on the 4/3 deal!!! :woohoo:

Plus...you'll be just moments from all the Theme Park magic!

Select Disney Deluxe Resorts

I'm very tempted to price this one out but dh is out of vacation time for 2009...we'll see! I would still rather go in Jan but I really wish I knew what the final cost would be and if I would make out better going earlier!!!!

Two Questions..
1.) What is the AAA discount, and can it be applied to values? (I am a member) and..
2.) When would you recommend booking POP for January 2010? We can't book right now, but i am SOO worried it will fill up. So i guess my real question is.. When do you all expect POP to fill up? (I know you aren't psychics, just looking for any infomation or speculation you may have)

I can't help with your second question, but you can go on the AAA website and look up the hotels to see what the rate would be with the AAA discount (if discounts are available at that hotel for your travel dates). Just remember they all start with "Disney's ..." so after searching for hotels sort alphabetically and click on the "D".

Last Friday, the 7th, I booked a five-night stay at POFQ using the AAA discount. We're going over Marathon Weekend in January so I was pleasantly surprised to get French Quarter - it's such a small Moderate that it can fill up quite fast.

When using the AAA discount in the past it was good to get 15%; 10% was not uncommon. The rack rate for a standard view was $872.00; we booked for $697.55. That's a nice 20% off. And, of course, if codes do come out for January, we'll rebook but 20% isn't too bad.

And although we booked a Moderate, I'm sure that Values would get the same discount. At least I hope so. If it was up to me I would book ASAP. Good luck.

We went from $365 a night for the Poly 1/22-1/24 to $310 with AAA. That's about 15% for us, but it was definitely worth it.
(And yes, I would normally refuse to spend $310 for ONE night anywhere, but it's Disney!)

I've booked the Poly from Jan 8-15 with the basic dining and the marathon package. I called CAA to see the difference in their rates (and we usually book with CAA, we only did marathon this time because we could book it earlier) and the price they quoted me was about $400 more! That really surprised me. I'm confused as well because those prices are always better.
Anyways, definately hoping for some sort of a code to come out! The CM that I booked the trip with said he's expecting it to be free dining and to watch about 100 days out.

18-21=$73.80/ night 22-23=$82.80/night 24-28=$73.80/night.

if you make a room only reservation, you only need to pay 1 nights deposit. You can always change to a package later...or if a better discount than AAA comes out change to it later.

I am taking my youngest DD to Disney for her 7th birthday 1/20 to 1/27. I took her sister (10) and brother (8) for their 7th birthdays. They both stayed at Pop for their birthday trips. I took the oldest to Poly on 4/3 deal this Jan and son for my birthday in May on 4/3 deal to AKL CL. I had booked AKL CL for my DD's trip before I purchased air fare. I had to book it at $500/night until 2010 rates came out. Last week I called to see if I could apply AAA discount. The first day I called the systems were down. The next day the CM said AAA wasn't available on AKL CL. I kept the reservation but wasn't sure what to do-switch to some other resort-Pop maybe....So I called back tonight and asked about AAA discount again and CM said I don't know if those are out yet. Okay, so we finally made it official and booked our room!! :cool1: We booked Jan 2 - 10 at CBR and were able to use the AAA rate which was 20% on all but the first night. That night is still considered part of the holiday and the weekend, and they had no more AAA availability on that night though something may open up. The CM did check for a pin for me but no such luck, but he did say to be sure to check back if I found any new discounts available to apply to my reservation! And you can bet I will be watching for some great deal like a hawk! :goodvibes But, I'm glad I at least have a room reserved now, I was worried that if something came out deal wise as was hinted may be coming Aug 12, maybe rooms would be booked like crazy and I'd be out of luck. While I was lurking on Disney's website yesterday I had a 'live' chat (as opposed to a 'dead' chat :rotfl2:) with a rep. Her advice to me was to call and book our Grand Gathering awhile (8 of us going needing 3 rooms). I asked her what then if a discount comes out for the duration of our stay. She told me I would just need to call back with my Grand Gatherings booking # and they would apply the discounts to all 3 of our reservations under that booking. Has anyone ever done this before? I've read about many people booking room only packages to secure their rooms, but what about booking everything? I want to ensure we get rooms but I don't want to loose out on any discounts if they become available.

If you know for sure you're going anyway, and you have the money for the deposit, go ahead and book it. I think the people who just book the room-only, alot of times NEED the deal to make the trip a reality, and the deposit is only one night at the hotel as opposed to the $200 for the package. I think you have longer you can cancel the room without penalty if I'm not mistaken???

For us, I'm planning on booking room-only in October, so I can have my 90+10 window for ADR's. If a great deal comes out in November, I'll switch it over to the package, and if it doesn't and I decide we can't afford it, I'll cancel everything!

I went ahead and booked our package for Pop in Jan 2010. I asked about discounts, did my PIN codes apply etc etc etc. The CM stated any discount that comes out can be applied to my booking with a simple phone call.

Well I do know from Jan 2009, when the 4/3 deal came out, we were booked at ASMo, this dosciunt was for select rooms only and we lost our eligibility because they were all gone for this resort, however other resorts had availability. This is how we got to stay at WL. Our Wl with the 4/3 was cheaper than regular rates at ASMo. Now I don;t know if ASMo was all full for this deal or not, but it made us feel like we got a deal and allowed us to stay deluxe for the price we were willing to spend anyhow.

I am willing to spend the price to stay value for 2010, so I feel ok having booked my package and be set with that price. If a deal comes - great, if not, my Mommy and me trip with DD will be great regardless and I cannot cancel it! Too important to not go! :goodvibes

I requested POFQ for January 2010! How much it's moderate resort is for January 2010?

January is off season, 2010 is $149. per night, last year AP rate was $89 or $99 per night. You would need to add 12.5% tax per night also.

I was excited that we could book our package, but really at this point, I don't see us going in Jan 19-26,2010 if we don't see get or if they don't release the 4/3 discount. So i'm kinda bummed, a little ill over it. Mostly, becuase work has gone to level 10 stress factor. I will really need a vacation in January.. Oh well, i'm sure hubby will make sure we can go, i just am worrying... :( *WISH* *WISH* :) All will turn out well!

I am with you on this. My husband's work has been way down (he works on commission) and I don't really see our trip happening if there is not some kind of discount. Money is just really short right now. I really want this trip too.

I wouldn't worry too much. It is very rare that Disney does not have some kind of deal going on, unless you are going during spring break or a major holiday.

I agree I booked before the 2010 rates came out for CR MKview tower room regular floor, Jan 23-30th. Almost had a stroke when she told me the total. However my rates came down 1400 bucks when the rates came out. They were charging 648.00 a night for that room, I wonder how they can ever get that rate for a regular room with a good view at CR. I looked at over the water bungalow's in Tahiti for less than that.

Adding on to the waiting list. We're hoping for a trip for a family of 6 January 15 - 23. Considering trying to rent DVC points, but would love a good deal at the Poly. Or free dining! We never manage to have a trip during FD times!

Hi everyone after many years I have finally joined a Disney Forum!
Our family usually go to Disney once a year and we like to stay at the moderates. (our favorite is CBC). I did have a question. I usually book at the time the discounts are offered. But this year we are wanting to go Jan. 3-9. We have never been during this time. Should we book now? without a discount, and if so if one is offered how does Disney handle that?. Thanks for all your help.

If you can afford the deposit now, most people usually book. Just to have a room saved. Then when a discount comes out, you would just call Disney and ask them to update the reservation with the new discount. Fairly easy! :)

Does this also apply if you are with a travel agent, or if I want to have the room saved, should I just book through Disney. I guess my question is...is it easier to get the discount applied through Disney or an agent?
I'm also looking into Jan 23-30 and would love a discount. How often does Disney offer specials in Jan?

I've never used a Travel Agent and never will. I hate having my vacation in someone elses hands or to have to go through a middle man to book anything. I know some people swear by them though so maybe they can help you out more!

I know where your coming from. I too like to have that control. And so far quotes I have gotten have been the same as through Disney.

do most of you do online or with a disney agent over the phone?

lol.. my DH and I were just talking about this last night. I'm way too much of a control freak, and quite honestly consider myself much more of a dis expert than they can be. I did once go through AAA to book because they had access to rooms and could see nothing available online but that was only in desperation!

I'm normally a 'do everything online' person but for booking I call a disney agent. If the resort is booked, free dining offer, etc... I like having someone on the phone to tell me what else is available, etc. I noticed online they don't always give you everything available right away. You have to dig for the other hotels. :confused3

And to the PP that mentioned they know more about disney than a TA? Exactly! :thumbsup2

When do AP rates for January usually come out?

I found my old email from last year and it's dated 10/29/08. I hate to think we have to wait until the end of October, so I'm hoping they release Jan AP discounts earlier, afterall, they released fall/winter discounts earlier this year. We have our DVC room booked, we are just hoping to go in a couple of days earlier if the price is right.
