I've seen pictures with gift baskets in DVC rooms. Someone told me that is a first time DVC gift.

Is it true that there is a DCV "Welcome Home" gift for your first stay using your membership?

We bought in '03, and that didn't happen for us. If it does happen, it's not universal.

Nope, not true at all. There's no "gift". You can however purchase yourselves a basket if the price doesn't scare you off :rotfl:

Good to know, thanks!

We did not get anything either. I have heard that sometimes a guide will send a basket, but I do not know if this is true.

Sorry, there are no first time gift baskets sent to DVC members' resort rooms.

Also, the Guides are prohibited from sending a "gift basket" as well.

Perhaps you are thinking of the gift baskets the resale Timeshare Store used to make available to their clients? Those have been discontinued, however.

But it was from the front desk staff at SSR...A welcome home basket with goodies, DVD, mugs and leather Disney portfolio.....

cpdwiz - I suspect the gift basket was because you were the DVC Grand Prize Winner.. :)

We received a large DVC duffel/suitcase carry on when we were the DVC Doorway to Dreams grand prize winner. It was filled with many Disney and DVC related gifts.

But, for the first time DVC member checking into their DVC resort, that would not be the norm.

I think the front desk staff did it on their own....

I've only heard about it happening when you are a first check-in at a new resort.

Didn't happen for us our first stay DAKV/Jambo house, and we are founding members. But the first that year we could go to DAKV, was in late November the resort opened in ... September(?) I think.

I do remember people who's stay was opening/first night posting about the gift baskets in the room (which may be what you heard about.) But I didnt' see anything this past week about Kidani it happening. Nor people who checked-in to Jambo past the first night or the first weekend.

And since it was mostly bloggers/press, it might have only been "Special" DVCers. We are all equal owners in DVC some are just more equal.

DH and I received a gift basket on our anniversary when we stayed at AKV as DVC members (our first stay there). It was full of bath and body products. It was delivered to our room right after we walked in the door after checking in.

We get free stuff every time we go;
Shampoo
Soap
Laundry Detergent

Serious though, never heard of a gift basket or anything special the first time people check in. We never received anything.

It is a very nice idea though.

Way back when OKW was new, we occasionally received "welcome home" gifts, nothing as elaborate as a gift basket. We've received a DVC logo photo album, hats and other marketing type gifts.

There have been little gifts from time to time. A turtle magnet at Vero Beach once when we checked in during turtle egg laying time, and a giraffe magnet at AKV Jambo when we stayed there for the first time.

Yea I don't really count the Jambo house animal magnets. Those are on the DVC promo material that is in the room. As I recall.

We got the AKV Giraffe magnet when we stayed on rented points last year. It was on Promo material that worked ... that little giraffe stuck to my fridge at home reminding me every day of how much I wanted and had been planning to buy in. Those AKV points came faster than I anticipated LOL.

The only other 'gifts' I know of are the totes given to new members when we buy in through Disney. If they were giving out gifts I think I'd rather have it in the form of a gift card I could turn back around to pay dues with.

Remember all those little "gifts" don't come from Disney. They come from the MF we all pay.

Actually, I think they come from DVC marketing, which is not part of our dues.

Yea the Fridge magnets that should be true. I was referring to people wanting "gift baskets" and "gift cards."

I believe you mis-read what I was trying to say.

I do not want gifts to be given out that are drawn upon the members dues. If anything is given out other than promo material, it should be direct refunds on our down payments... like the $500 gift card promo for buying into AKV last year. I got mine - I consider it my own money returned to me which I will apply to my dues when it finally shows up in my account.
