Bryan - I love the thread name this month! Great pick!
I was so AWOL in April that I thought it would be nice if I started things off here in May. I just got back from running the Broad Street Run here in Philadelphia - a very fast 10-miler down the center of the city. I had an awesome time, and did really well, particularly considering my lack of training - I finished in 1 hour 49 minutes, with an average pace of 10:55.
What's our schedule for posting miles & minutes in May? I will try to keep up much better this month!

Free advice, it's worth what you paid for it. Then again, sometimes the best things in life are free. You decide in this week's mixer prompt.
Share with us some memorable advice you've received.
Your advice can be related to training or races. It can focus on healthy habits or be "life" advice. It can be the best advice you've ever received, the worst, or the most profound. It can be helpful tips that helped you as a WISHer and athlete. Or it can be simply the funniest, most useless, or totally inappropriate for a situation. Just so long as it's memorable.
And just like M & Ms, don't feel restricted to just one piece....

Liz...hi!! Are you getting back to activity?
Postings for this month and every month are:
Days 1-7
Days 8-14
Days 15-21
Days 22-end of month.
Keep those posts coming!!
As for me, I had my 2nd tri of the season yesterday (a short sprint) and won my AG! yippee!!! That made me feel great, and I am pretty much back to where I was pre-surgery. Still very much need to work on run speed and drop a few lbs.

Sorry, my fellow duckies -- truth be told, April stormed in and kicked my butt, (I started off so strong, too) and so far May is following suit, but I am going to try to get back in my groove. I need to get back in my groove. I wish I was one of those people who instinctively turned to exercise in times of stress, instead of Oreos.
Betsy, I will get you the rest of my piddly April miles and minutes by the end of the week. Honest!
One achievement I am pretty proud of though and would like to share -- this past weekend was the adopt-a-thon at the North Shore Animal League (the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption shelter) where I volunteer. It was open for 36 hours straight, and i was there for nearly half of that. At the end of it all, Sunday night, I was told we had broken our old record, with the unofficial total being 736 animals adopted into new, loving forever homes.
Now if there were only a way to count all the time I spent hauling puppies around for prospective adopters, I'd be off to a great start for May!
Gonna try to get caught up on the prior thread, too, but till then, hope everyone is doing okay!

Hi all. I am here to report for April
April 8-14 - 17 miles (including double miles for 10k) 1 hour 31 mins
April 15-21 - 2 miles 30 mins
April 22-30 - 8 miles (4 miles bike, 4 miles walk) 6 hours 30 mins (including 5 hours yard work)
Unfortunately I haven't gotten any running in since April 30 since things have still not gotten back to normal around (except things will NEVER get back to normal especially for my sister and my neice) I might get up early tomorrow morning and go for a run or walk.

Good Morning Duckies! Finally the rain has stopped, it has been a week of on and off wetness, Sunday I did the Five Borough Bike Tour in NYC and it rained most of the ride. Anyway, my weekly total is 91 miles (only 2 running) and 7 hours 15 minutes.
Liz, good to see you back out there!
Erica, sounds like you have fun with the animal adoptions!

Hey Team! I have been a very bad and absent Captain recently and I feel the need to apologize. There are a few that no or have some good ideas of what is going on for me right now but with great reluctnace, I am not ready to talk about it with everyone just yet. I will ask, if you could, just to keep me in your thoughts for a little while. That would do more good for me than anything else right now.
For my miles and hours this past week, they were down to what I normally shoot for. We have had rain, thunderstorms and even hail and tornadoes around here for the last week. I am itching to go out for a run as I am getting really tired of the same scene inside the gym walls. Anyway, here are my totals.
Miles - 65
Hours - 11.25
Tricia I am thinking about you everyday trying to send strength and cope to you during this time.
Liz I am soooo glad that you are back. I know I have really missed you and our little talks. It is exciting to see that you are able to exercise again. You are an inspiration to get me to push thru and do more! Hope all is well for you up North.
I know there are several others that I need to mention and I will be back and do so. Now, I have to go to work. I am encouraged and amazed by each and everyone of you everyday! Thank you sooo much for all that you do.

Hello 3D's! And Happy Mother's Day to you Moms! Congratulations on winning your age group, Betsy! I did a duathlon today, and finished 35th out of 160, 2nd in my age group. Also had my best time at this event, 1:03:51. This is my third time doing it. It is a road bike race, though the run is mostly through the woods.
Have a great week, everyone! It will be especially good for me, three days and I am off to DW!

My thoughts and prayers are with you Bryan. Thanks for sending your thoughts to me. I really appreciate it.
I am trying to stay strong but its tough. Tried to go back to work yesterday but could only manage 1/2 hour and I had to leave. Today I stuck it out for the whole day but tomorrow I am taking a half day so I can take my sister to the Dr.
As far as milage I got next to nothing done but did manage to get out for a walk/run with my neice and we did 2.8 miles in about 45 mins so that is all I can report for May 1-7 (I also got out with her on Saturday but that gets reported for the next time period) I can't believe my 12 year old neice fits into my old running shoes - which I am sure were a whole lot better for her to wear walking and running than Converse would have been.

DKP--thanks...we would love a new person!
AUDisneydad...looking forward to hearing from you.
What we do here is have a smaller group to encourage and support each other in training, fitness, and as you can see, we offer support just as friends, too!
We track our active miles and minutes, and post them 4 times a month, aiming to post for the time periods of Days 1-7, 8-14, 15-21, and 22-end of month. There is a spreadsheet where the weekly, monthly, and year-to-date totals are. Bryan (Bubba73) includes the link at the start of each month's posts. So, count up your training/racing miles for the week, as well as the time spent. You can also count time doing heavy yard work if you wish. If you race, the miles count double, but not the time.
It's not really a contest, only a way to feel inspired and maybe a little accountable. I know for me and for Bryan, knowing that we are going to post it encourages us to get out and train even on the tough days. (hi, Bryan!)
Many of us have done various Disney races, and will be happy to answer any questions!
Cheers!

Hello 3D's! I am off to DW tomorrow, so I am reporting my miles early. Total for the 8th to the 14th is 115 miles biking, and 8 miles running. The time is 7 hours and 3 minutes. The 8 running miles and 20 of the biking miles are the doubled race distance.
For the past two days I have been riding my new single speed bike. New to me, it is an old bike I rescued from a dumpster, stripped and rebuilt. It is kind of neat using just the one gear, and it is a little lighter to boot. Can't wait to take it into the city one day and ride around.
Welcome to AUdisney Dad!
Have a good week, everyone!

Hello Triple D's and Our Newest Member Tim (Tim, are you a fellow Alabamian or does the AU mean something different? Just curious.) I know I speak for everyone on the team when I say that we are all looking forward to getting to know you better.
Betsy You have been a ROCK for me and the team during my "trials". I can't thank you enough for all of your support, leadership and help.
Tricia You have such a wonderful heart. I know the pain that you must be feeling from all that has happened and yet, you come to me with open arms. I can't thank you enough for that. Truly inspirational!!! (I do hope that you are feeling some better. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday!!)
Debra What can I say Debra? You know that I love you. You were one of the very first ones that took me in back in January. He showed me friendship when you didn't really know me. You supported me as I went by you during your water stop. You have been a truly great friend. I can't thank you enough for that but I will try. Thank you!!
Team I have felt each and every prayer that you have all offered up since my last post. You have all lifted me up during my "down time" and there is no way that I can thank you enough for that either. I think about each and every one of you every single day. I love you all and use you as a motivational tool throughout my life and my workouts. Thank you so much for showing me the love and care that you have.
Dave You have been a good leader, supporter and friend. Your encouraging words, ramble sessions and general friendship to everyone that you come in contact with have made me a stronger, more confident person. If I can emulate your leadership just partially, I would consider myself a HUGE success. Thank you for reaching out to me during my time of self-absorbed pity partyness. It really means a lot.
As for me Things personally are starting to settle and come to a close to a degree. I am expecting to be able to actually open up more pretty soon. Work has been insane! I feel everyday that I am lucky that I have a job and then unfortunate that I have my job because it seems so thankless at times. My customers love me but management always wants more. No matter what you do, they want more. I don't ask for much but give me some appreciation for doing a good job when I do and I will be happy. But yet, that is the state of the country and the economy and I am not going to "preach" on that one. I do, once again, want to thank all of you for everything. It is a wonderful feeling and has made me open my eyes more to a reality that I have not realized for a long time.
I hope all of you are having a wonderful night, day and week. I look forward to reading about all of your results soon!
Thanks everyone!

Thank you so much Bryan - what you said about me made me feel really good. I hope thing are getting better and continue to do so.
We are taking it one day at a time here. Its still tough but we have to stay strong. Soon my sister will have the baby and so its going to be a whole new set of emotions at that time. Hopefully the baby will stay put until the c-section date (May 28) so we still have a little less than 2 weeks. I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers everyone has sent my way. It has meant alot to me.
As far as my miles - I only did a 3 mile walk - 1 hour with my niece. I hope to get out sometime this weekend if only for a walk.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday. Yeah its almost the weekend. I just can't concentrate a full day at work lately.

Good morning all.
Tricia: Many ((hugs)) and thoughts for you and yours. I am only just catching up and wanted you to know how sorry I am for all you have gone through.
Bryan: ((hugs)) and good thoughts for you, too. I am sorry life is so stressful, but I have utter faith in you and know you will come out of this strong and better than ever.
Tim: Welcome!
I am still working on catching up with the team, life, the universe and everything. In that vein, I've decided to go ahead and ask Betsy to kindly just fill in my missing weeks with big ol' goose eggs. I've gotten a little bit of training in, bnut not any significant amount, and I realized that feeling like i had to go back and reconstruct the last few weeks (which, without being overly melodramatic, are weeks I would just as soon forget about) has been a big weight holding me back. So, I am moving forward, as of today and trying my best to shake off the bad -- or at least learn to deal with some of the stress through exercise rather than oreos.
Hope everyone is doing well. And hope to be seeing a little more of you now!

"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ~Alfred Hitchcock
By now, most of you have figured out I like movies. A lot. Perhaps an unhealthy amount. Nevertheless, I think it's fun to talk about movies, especially now that the summer season has started. Wolverine has been released, so has Star Trek, with many more big blockbusters soon to come.
So this week's mixer topic is, predictably enough, summer movies! The start of the mixer, posted on the 'Ohana thread, is here. (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31868531&postcount=863)
What summer movies are you looking most forward to, and why? Also, how do you like your summer movies?
Feel free to talk about how you choose your flicks: based on directors, your favorite movie star, a beloved genre? And what is your ideal movie experience? Midnight movies or matinees? Chain theaters or independents? Drive-ins? What about the movie-going extras? With or without snacks? Buttered popcorn or chocolate?

Spreadsheet is updated.....missing some folks!! Even our leader Bryan!!
I started the week off strong with a 42 mile bike ride last weekend. And some good runs...but then was travelling for work and just got off track. Haven't done squat for the last few days. HAVE TO get back on the plan tomorrow! I've got a 1/2 Ironman in less than 4 weeks and am not really ready. The swim will be what it is...I don't have the bike time in, and the run will probably be ok, because I feel in a better place for that than this time last year. Prob could drop a few lbs to feel better about hauling myself around the course. Doing a sprint tri next week, so hope that will be fun! I'm sure it will!!
So for May 8-14:
Swim: 1.1 miles/ :50
Bike: 42 miles/ 3:00
Run: 9.2 miles/ 1:40
wts/core/stretch :30
Totals: 52.3 miles/ 6:00 hours
Keep the posts coming!!!
And...as much as it saddens me...the people who posted in Feb/early March only...are about to get lumped into a column of "other" on the spreadsheet, to save some time when adding the new months. I'm bummed they stopped posting. Oh well....
I am very happy, once again, to welcome AUDisneydad to the team!!
Will look forward to meeting him and so many others at the marathon in January!

I did a 10K race on May 10 and set a new PR of 55:53! I was aiming to go under 57 minutes, so I was pretty happy to go under 56. Still working toward my half marathon at the end of the month - and still hoping to go under 2 hours for that.

Of course, being a true Disaholic, our flights just happen to be routed through Florida, with an overnight in Orlando on the way down. Then of course on the way home, we'll need 3 days at AKV to rest up :rotfl:before heading home. Hello Duckies! I hope everyone is ready for the start of summer with the memorial day weekend starting real soon.....
My miles for this week of the 14th thru the 21st, 7.5 miles running, in 75 minutes. This was on my too short trip to DW, did some morning running around the lake and canal of BW. And for biking, it is 105 miles in 7.5 hours.
Has anyone done the ToT runs? I am thinking of signing up for it. Also thinking of the EE Challange in Sept, but don't think I can get too many trips in.
Sam, have a great trip to Peru. And everyone have a great weekend!

Just reporting in for the week of May 15-21 - a big fat 0 for me. (Yeah I am feeling big fat right now too!! LOL)
I should be getting out tomorrow and do at least 1 mile since my niece wants to enter a 1 mile race on Memorial Day. So she is going to want to get out tomorrow and see what she can do. My sister bought my niece her first running outfit - its so cute. She is SO excited about the race even though her ankle is a little sore from gymnastics (she is a competive gymnast) I told her she might want to not do the race and she will hear nothing of it. I told her we will see what it feels like tomorrow since that is the last day for pre-registration.

Nothing going on here. Just trying to keep on track with my training and gearing up for another busy summer of baseball. The boys just left to go to their dad's for the weekend so I'm looking forward to a quiet bicker free weekend! I'll miss them won't miss the bickering though. Can't wait for them to outgrow it!!!!

Hey Triple D's!!! Looks like everyone is doing wonderful here!! People going on trips, signing up for the TOT and doing a lot of training. That's just awesome! I have gotten so much motivation from all of you, that it is incredible. My days are getting better. My workouts are getting more intense. It's all very exciting for me.
I have been able to focus more on my weight training recently, which is a good thing. I am really trying to add a little more size without taking away from the "lean look" that I have been working on for the last several years. Pretty excited about some of the gains that I have been able to make and then......bam! I have tendonitis in my forearm and bicep in my right arm. Doctor told me to lay off the arm exercises for a little while and keep icing it. I told him I would try but couldn't promise. The good news is that this week was a lot better than last week. Here are my totals Betsy!
Miles - 85
Hours - 11.25
Didn't break the 100 mile barrier again this week but I am getting closer to it than I have been. I am thinking the next post will be over that. I am resolved to make sure of that.
Keep up the tremendous efforts, motivation and encouragement. The Triple D's are doing incredible and I am honored to be a part of the team!!!!
Have a great weekend and Memorial Day if I don't talk back here before hand!!

Hello Ducks! I just wanted to mention this contest being run by Cabot Cheese, a virtual trip from VT to Vegas. Here is the link: http://www.cabotcheese.coop/vermont-to-las-vegas/ You log in and total your time, maybe win a trip to Vegas. The only catch is you have to be over 50, so I do not know if any of you qualify. I know I do:). It ties right in with the reporting of the mileage we do here.
The cheese is pretty good also!

Hi, Team!!!
Sorry I've been deliquent...the spreadsheet is updated through those who have posted for the week ending 5/21.
I raced today, so was a little distracted by that. Looking forward to counting some double miles next week, since I was a jet-lagged slacker for the week of May 14-21:
swim 2.4 miles/2:00
bike 19.0 miles/ 1:10
run 5.2 miles/ 1:10
total 26.6 miles/ 4:20
the next reporting "week" is May 22-May 31. Get moving and let's count some miles and fitness time! We are going to be just under 10,000 miles for the year so far by the end of May. That is AMAZING!!!!
Will put a race report on the tri thread and cross link it to the race page later. Still waiting on official results. No AG placing this time, but I biked well. ugh. Have a lot of work to do...esp. with a 1/2 Ironman in 3 weeks. :scared1:

Hi from Peru. :goodvibes We are at 3800 meter elevation and boy am I feeling it right now. The climb up 2 flights of steps to our room about wiped me out. :rotfl: I think by morning I will be more acclimated.
Yes, I just can't stand not logging on the few times possible to say hi to my Triple D teammates.;)
I did lots of walking around Lima yesterday (does that count? :rotfl:
Today after a flight from Lima to Cusco to Juliaca, and then a bus ride to Puna at Lake Titcaca, I am struck by just how much we Americans have compared to many peoples. It's very humbling, and in a way, almost embarrassing.
Augie, Dh and I are doing the EE, it would be great if you could fit it in.
Everyone, thanks for the good wishes. I'm thinking of you.

My totals for last week was 13 miles at 2.45 hours. Sorry for reporting it late. I also have a question, i ride the stationary bike two times a week for about 30 - 45 minutes a time so not to long but does this count for biking or does it have to be on asphalt/trails?

Hi Triple D's. Happy Memorial Day. No running or walking for me in way too long but I did attend a running event this morning. My niece wanted to do a 1 mile race this morning. She was so excited to get to do her first race. So we got up early and drove to the race. We got her registered and then walked over to see the 5k finishers. I have never been on that side of the race since I am always racing and never see the first runners finish. After 36 minutes and before 45 minutes there was a lady who was coming to the finish line and she went off course - I didn't see her until she was already off into the grass. Someone was helping her back onto the asphalt and she couldn't move her legs. She was just yards from the finish line. Someone else came along the other side of her and tried to help her to move. She took a few steps but you could tell it was a struggle. A fire rescue guy came up to help. At this point some lady who had already finished the 5k was saying "is it really THAT important that she finishes" I already had tears in my eyes because of what was happening and I didn't end up saying anything the the other lady who in my opinion just didn't get it. We were cheering so loudly for her as she crossed the finish line. Sadly though she need the ambulance to come for her. I don't know what happened to her from there since we had to walk over to the start of the youth 1 mile. I really hope she is ok and not in too much pain tonight.
So we all walked over to where the 1 male race was starting. My neice's friend also wanted to run the race so her and her mom came. A PE teacher was "in charge" of the 1 mile race and had the kids take a "warm up" lap and then had them do a few exercises with a few kids coming up front and doing different exercises or stretches they thought were good. It was really cute and good for them. He told the bigger kids (top age was 14 - my niece is 12) and the ones with 7 minute miles to get to the front so the little kids don't get trampled. The did the gun start and it was chip timed and everything - my niece found the chips so fascinating - she tagged it on her pictures we posted on Facebook as "the micro chip thingy" At first my niece did not want her friend to come to the race and was reluctant to tell her where the race was. Her friend has been timed running at school and my niece never has been timed so I think my niece was scared her friend would beat her. Well the only advice I gave her before the race was to run her best, it was ok if she had to walk, remember to breathe and don't look back. I had also told her early to not worry about if she placed or came in 4th or lower whatever she did would be awesome. Well at the finish line we see the first kid coming to the finish at just over 6 minutes. We see my niece coming and she is in front of her friend (ok so I am just a little happy about this!!) she has it in high gear and she finishes with a time of 8:26 :woohoo: She is at the end of the chute bent over (I forgot to meet her on the other side of the chute) so I go running over there and get her some water and get the chip off her ankle. She says she has a pain in her side. I tell her to breathe through her nose when she can. She says she feels like she has to throw up (so she is more like her Aunt Tricia every day - at least she got me beat - she thankfully didn't throw up) She pours the water over her head and she feels a little better and goes to watch the rest of the finishers in the 1 mile. I see the timer guy bringing the time sheets to the picnic table so I go over there to see how she did. She was 2nd in her age group and ended up 14th overall out of 53 kids. I am so PROUD of her :cool1: so we had to stay for awards - something I never did before since I have never been anywhere near getting an award (guess she isn't that much like me after all) I told her that her daddy would have been so proud of her and she said she told herself as she was coming to the finish line that she was doing it for daddy. She is now ready to do a 5k (even though she keeps saying she is ready to do a marathon - then she just laughs) I kind of enjoy having a little running buddy - now I just need to get back out there and actually run. LOL

Hello there Triple D's!!!! Sorry for being so quiet for so long. I am hoping that things are in the process to change that for the better. It has been a very stressful month around the house but all things will come to closure at some point. (I do want to thank everyone for all of the thoughts and prayers during this time. It has been felt and appreciated.)
AUDisneydad Any kind of exercise is something that you can record. Biking, exercise bike, elliptical, treadmill, jogging, swimming, anything in this realm where you are doing something that promotes health and fitness is something you can count both time and distances. If you go to a gym or do any form of weight training, yoga, pilates, wii fit, or anything else in this area, you can count the time. So please, make sure that you count the this also. (Don't forget. If you do a race, you count double miles but not double time.)
Otherwise, I was going to remind everyone that Sunday is the last day of the month. Let's try to get those totals into Betsy as soon as we can. We are just about to 10,000 already. That is fantastic!!! Let's see if we can bust that number by the end of the month. I know I am trying to increase my totals more than what I have been doing for the last couple of weeks.
So May is over and June is starting. Does anyone have any clever titles for the June thread? I am taking suggestions. Also, if anyone has any movie quotes to post, we are way overdo for one. Seems like we got away from this because we all got busy and haven't got back to it.
Hope everyone is having a great week and I look forward to seeing how we are all doing at the end of the month.
Sharon, I hope you are having an awesome trip. Be safe and have fun!!
Thanks everyone!

Hello from Stratford, Ontario, where I'm on a working vacation seeing some live theater. It's a great place to be, and I highly recommend a trip here. :thumbsup2
But that's not the reason I'm posting on the thread. I'm here to let you know you have a new team member, Dave (Running Mouse). Dave's a GOOFY guy, in for his 5th, and a DVC member, so I think he'll find a good home here with the DDDs. I know you'll make him feel welcomed and put him to good use. :rotfl2:

Just want to report that I have gotten no miles in but I got good reason. My niece Summer is here safe and sound. She is SO adorable. I spent the night with my sister and the baby in hospital last night. Didn't get much sleep - not due to the baby but more due to the nurses coming in. Summer Erika Teaghan arrived yesterday afternoon at 1:16 and she was 5 lbs 16 oz (which is exactly what my neice weighed when she was born 12 years ago.)
When I get a chance I will post pics - they are on my Facebook but I can't get to it right now.

I know you're all ea-GEAR to share your knowledge about your favorite clothing, training aids and technical toys, so this week's prompt posted here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32075505&postcount=950) on the 'Ohana thread is:
Beyond the basics, what's your favorite/most-useful/most loved gear?
Of course, feel free to talk about your favorite shoes, socks, tech shirts or sports bras or other necessities. But I think we'd all like to know about that special something(s) that you've added to your "must have" for training, racing days, or just plain pleasure. For some of you, maybe it's your Garmin. Other, a special brand of sunscreen or a specific brand of water belt? Still others, a strategy for taping your legs and feet or a a favorite tracking website?
Please share your special finds with the rest of us. :thumbsup2

I expect we'll have a few stragglers coming in to post, so we'll keep this thread going, but I'm not sure if Bryan has come up with a name for the June thread. I didn't have any ideas other than something about Ducks eating June bugs...:confused3 Keep those totals coming!!
Spreadsheet is updated through the current posts. Y'all be sure and double check me from time to time, ok?
I need to get my totals together later. Good thing is it will include one race for doubled miles. Bad thing is that my 65 mile bike ride on Saturday first turned into a 50 mile ride, but then ended up being only 25 because I had a really bad tire. Shame on me for not checking my gear first. And I was having a great ride until that point! Now starting to feel a summer cold or something coming on, so cross your fingers for me I don't really get sick. 1/2 Ironman in 2 weeks, and I'm not really ready. Will have to pull this one out of thin air. (or somewhere :rotfl:)
Tricia...good on you for all the good family time! Now go for a walk! ;)
Big Vic...hope the LTO/WTO isn't getting you down. Hugs!!
Hope to hear from Running Mouse who DKP sent our way!

This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32176694&postcount=989) on the 'Ohana thread.
What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?
How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?
