Hi everyone!
No workout for me today. But wanted to say hi, before I head off to my half-marathon.
This is my first half and the goals are as follows:
Safety/satisfaction goal under 2 hours.
Real goal 1:50. I did both of my 13 mile runs in 1:50 or less so this is pretty realistic.
Reach goal 1:45. I do my pace runs at 8 min/mile or less, so I think this is doable on a good day.
I can't wait to report back
Best,
Jennifer

We make appointments all the time, for the doctor, work related and hundreds of other reasons. One of the things we don't make an appointment for is our time. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could count our time as necessary? Well our personal "ME" time could be the most important appointment we make, our health and often our sanity can depend on that.
If you had an appointment for your doctor you would go, after you get there it often takes longer than you expected. Don't be mad at your Doctor for having to wait. Let me tell you why: when people make an appointment they tell the receptionist they are going form their most troubling concern, like they have the flu. The receptionist makes the appointment time for the Doctor to examine someone to confirm the flu, say 15 min with the doctor. Well when that person gets in front of the doctor, they tell him about the knee pain they have been having or the waking up to pee 5 times a night, or a million other little things that are bothering them. A good doctor is going to listen, unfortunately you are in the waiting room while all this is going on. If several patients ahead of you do this the doctor is running way behind. Of course when you get to see him you tell him about that pain in your lower back and a few other little problems you have to.
To keep your workout appointment flowing smoothly plan for the time you need. Next time you workout time it from the time you get in the car to drive to the gym till you get in the car to drive home. That way you will get a realistic idea of how much time you really need. Nothing is worse than to be in the middle of a great workout and realize you have to stop because you are out of time. Plan it so you will be able to relax. If your workout is a walk/run be sure to plan the time to change clothes and shower.
Look at the time that is realistic for you. If you go to bed at 10 or 11 at night then getting up at 5 or 6 in the morning will work but plan for 6 hrs sleep as a minimum, less than that and you will get progressively more worn out and you won't have the energy for workouts at all. Sleep is required to make you stronger after your workout since as we all know you do minor damage to your muscles that has to be healed for you to come back stronger than before. When you don't get your healing sleep you pretty much wasted your time in your workout.
Plan your week ahead and you will be able to find time for your workouts and the planning will keep them from conflicting with other necessary parts of your week.
Thanks for the idea for today's Blog Denise.

Well Dave I think one of my biggest problems is the lack of sleep. I go to sleep around 10:30 and I"m awake at 4:30. May have to cut back on my House Hunters International on HGTV.
Did 5 miles this morning - a beautiful day. Many weeds to pull, bark mulch to help Mark with. Should be a great day.
Hope all of you have a wonderful Saturday.

Hi team! Wow! I can't believe it's May already! Summer is just around the corner! I had planned to run 10 miles this morning but when I got out I just didn't feel it. About 3 miles in, I knew it wasn't going to happen. I felt I was going to slow so I cut it short at 5 miles. I'll give it another try tomorrow :)
Jen - Good luck on your 1/2!
Dave - I can't wait to see you and Erica at the end of the month! Thanks for the reminder about more sleep. I've actually started going to sleep earlier so now I'm up to 7 hours a night. I will eventually try and get myself into 8 hours a night. Another thought on waiting for appointments - sometimes the person who booked the appointment doesn't realize how long an appointment actually is. My RMT told me that when she first started, she'd get back to back appointments but that she actually needs 15 minutes in between just to do set-up and clean ups.
Mary - You have a speedy SIL! I only wish I could run that fast! Good luck on your race!
Eva - I hear ya on the "living" money. DF and I cut way back on eating out and going to movies. The eating out thing is probably for the best though. I'm glad to hear that Chop is doing better! He's so cute!! Did you make a decision on the job?
Connie - That's a lot of groceries! You don't fool around! I recently read this article about a runner who buys all of her groceries in one shot, and cooks meals for the entire week. She says that way she uses her fridge to store meals instead of food and her family can eat whenever they want without waiting for her.
Denise - Have you tried applying heat to your neck and shoulders? That sometimes works for me. How are Miranda and the baby doing?
Sue - Any progress on the renovations?
Scott - What's this about a tiki bar? Sounds cool!
Margie - WTG on getting out to the gym so many times this week! :cheer2:
Hope everyone is having a great day! :goodvibes

Bunnyfoo, Miranda is doing very good. She's more than 1/2 now and rarely sick. I bought her a bunch of clothes since nothing fits her anymore.
I do have a heating pad for my neck and it helps. Yesterday and today I've been about 100%. Did a lot of planting today, weeding, mulching which a week ago I don't think I could have even watched from the porch. So it's a big improvement.
Well off to the shower and out to dinner.
Have a good weekend

Hi team.
I saw something interesting in a magazine I was reading at work, it was talking about thinking thin or thinking fat. "A thin thinking person plans activities with friends, a fat thinking person plans dinner with friends.
How is everyone doing with their training? Feeling the love?
I'm thinking about doing a little running next week just as crosstraining for my walking. I'm curious how my racewalking fitness relates to running fitness.

WOW May already, bills are paid and it continues to Rain.
Dave good thoughts about an appointment for me time, my problem and I admit it is at work I am very much a type A person, and push myself to do the best I can. The crash when I get home.
Got Lynn's motor bike kinda together, battery in and now need to re install the plastic. Getting to the battery is a 45 min job.
Vicky, the Tiki Bar is a portable out door bar to be used for outside parties. Put a shelf and electricity (gotta have power for the Frozen concoction Machine) in the Tiki Bar, kinda heavy ( still portable LOL) so I built a trailer to move it around LOL, yes I can pull the Tiki Bar with the tractor.
Still raining here, it is good as we need the moisture, might just brave the elements and hit the bricks or maybe wimp out on the TM.
Will be interviewing folks tomorrow for a position in my office, then we will convene at the Adventures Club to discuss the candidates. Jack I will have to use the question you posted the other day. Will see if we get as good of a response.
Will be in San Jose 5/12 and Lynn will also tag along and run up to Santa Rosa to see her dad.
Ok Dave ya got me worried, with the Fat and Thin topic of activity or diner , What does that say about my recent obsession with building bars???? LOL

I am the cook! I plan meals, shop for the best food and alcohol. Yep that would be me, the hostess. So in order to maintain my figure, I do have to put in a lot of hours of walking to keep things in perspective. The problem with winter here in NH is that it stops me from walking as much as I should but I of course continue to cook and nurture the troops hence the winter weight gain. Spring has sprung so it will come off but I'm not happy with the added inches.
Then again I look at other people and think, well your not too bad - just get moving and it'll be a lot better.
I did find all new muscles in my thighs, butt and lower back. That planting thing, wow, it sure does work on the lower body. I have a great respect for landscapers now.
Giving myself a day in the quilt studio so, I'm off to eat my cheerios and then touch some fabric.
Have a good one.

Good morning Team!
I have updated our totals for the month. I will wait until all the times and miles come in before I post our yearly totals. I think we are doing quite well!
I had to take DH to the doctor on Friday. He had a gallbladder attack, apparantly. We will be spending all this coming week in hospitals and doctor's offices. Yippeeee. The doctors have already discussed it and they think that they can do the surgery this week and get him back on his feet. We have been steadily cutting back on stuff because he is down to about 10 days a month in work. He needs to be back on those feet so we don't miss too much and because he will make me crazier!!!!!! :scared:
Dave, I need to make that appointment with myself. I am just having a hard time with the new and improved constantly changing never the same, someone wants me do something else, schedule! I see some serious planning and discussions in my future!
Good luck Jen!
Vicky, I cook from scratch so there is ALWAYS something in the fridge whether you need a snack or a meal!
Denise, Good job on the garden. I guess I will be mowing and putting in our garden in between doctors and hospitals this week. But it rains everyday and I don't like the mud!
Margie! Great job on the gym!!! You da woman! :woohoo:
Chief! I mean Jack! Good times and miles for a topsy turvey month!
Y'all make a great Sunday! See ya Connie

Back home from the mini Marathon. My quads, left hamstring and right arch are quite sore, but at least I did finish! After mile 8 or 9, I had to stop and stretch at least once every mile, so I wasn't so sure. My time was not nearly as good as at WDW, 3:41:01. My SIL on the other hand, got a new PR: 1:24:17! Way to go Mark!
Been using the Stick on my sore muscles, but first thing tomorrow, I'm going to call and make an appointment for a massage!:lovestruc

OK, I have now caught up on the past week that I was MIA. Sounds like everyone has been doing good!
We did get out for a walk today - 3 miles with the dogs - terrible pace because I have not been out for 2 days. Then I got my leg routine in, should have done it yesterday, and I can tell that I neglected it yesterday.
We did sign up for Race for the Taste today - just a quick weekend -
Scott thought the air fares were reasonable. We actually have to pay for a hotel room - out of DVC points!
Have a great evening team!

I'm back, and I'm a little stiff/sore but not nearly as bad I thought I would be.
The race was not flat no matter what they said. And I normally train on a rolling course! I swear one of those hills was straight vertical.
I'll post a full report later, but I'm so excited about the result I couldn't wait to share.
Official chip time 1:43:50 (Gun time 1:44:30). 48/765 Women 39 & under (don't get me started on how ridiculous I find this age group, both for those of us that are under 25 and those that would be over 35) and 215/1840 overall.
I have massage tomorrow afternoon and will post a full report tomorrow or tuesday.
Best,
Jennifer

Hi Team! Happy Monday! Another week begins... I managed to run my 10 miles on Sunday. Gorgeous day for running! But the last 2 miles were a killer - my hips were so tight that I slowed down to a wog. I still got them in so I'm happy! Only a couple more weeks until my 1/2 - where did the time go!?
Mary - Congrats on your half and enjoy your well earned massage! Do you have an pics of your medal? You're like me - my right side always get sore. Congrats to Mark as well on his PR!
Jennifer - You're a speed demon! What an amazing time! Were you running by yourself or with friends? I've found that I usually have trouble with stairs after a race but the next day everything's back to normal. Enjoy your massage :) Can't wait to hear the full report!
Scott/Lynn - I'm still thinking about changing my tickets so I can stay over an extra day and do the RFTT. The Tiki bar and the slushie contraption sound super cool!!
Connie - :wizard: for your DH! I hope he feels better soon. I will get my hours and miles to you tonight!
Denise - That's so sweet of you to get Miranda new clothes! I know some people at work who just make do with what they have - they get pretty creative with elastic bands and what not  I don't get it. Does she know if the baby is a boy or girl?
Dave - I'm always planning dinners and brunches ... uh-oh :rotfl::cutie:
Anyway, I'm off to the gym tonight for training. Have a great day everyone!

Jennifer - congrats on the race!
MaryJ - I forgot to mention yesterday - sounds like you and your DH race the same way Scott and I do - since he runs and I walk, he also could go get a shower and change clothes then meet me at the finish:rotfl:
My temporary job with the Census Bureau will be finished this week - all I still have to do is collect my crew's hand held computers and do the release paperwork for each of them - then haul everything down to Colorado and hand in my own hand held computer - then, maybe, I will have time to check these boards with my morning coffee again! And get in my regular exercise! But the extra money has been nice - I almost have my American Express bill paid off:lmao:
Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone!
Thanks for all the congrats!
Eva- I ran the race on my own. I am however social to those around and carried on quite a long conversation in miles 3-5 with a guy wearing a Disney marathon shirt.
Went for my massage this morning. I feel good; however, my massage therapist said my hamstrings are incredibly tight. She also said I should be coming in much more often with my mileage. What do you guys think about massage and mileage? Is it real a "necessity" or is it just a sales pitch/nice pick me up?
There's a report over on the appropriate thread.
I went to dance class tonight and did warm up and cool down but just marked the actual dances. I'm planning to go for an easy run tomorrow and/or probably to Zumba.

Jennifer - I read somewhere that it's best to go in once a month for a massage because it helps to keep the muscles relaxed (not sure if that's the right word) and so you're less likely to injury yourself. That said... I went for a massage last week and I didn't notice a difference in my hamstrings (mine are really tight too). She specifically worked on that area too so I'm not sure. I did some work with my PT tonight and that seemed to help. Maybe I just need to stretch more ... a lot more. I don't know :)

As far as massage goes, I went in for a half hour massage for three weeks in a row prior to the WDW half, and didn't have as much pain as I did at Indy last weekend. I didn't get any massages at all prior to Indy. I completely forgot that I had done that before until it was too late. So, I think I will try to keep up the massages from here on out. Once a month seems like a good start.

Sue - I will keep my eyes open for a part time job - I do have a few apps in at places like the grocery stores, WalMart, etc. but I will have to do a bit more when I get really serious. The problem is finding a job that will let me take all the time off that I want to. We will see what comes up.
No exercise yesterday, nor will I get any today, but the sooner I collect all the computers and end my job, the sooner I will be able to get out on a regular basis!
Time to go to work! Have a great day everyone!

Hi y'all.
Erica and I did an hour walk at the Opry Mills Mall in Nashville. We had to get the VW serviced so we were there anyway. Erica fell in love with the new VW Luxury car the CC. It's a new full size sedan.
I'll have her ready for our trip to Toronto at the end of the month. We are doing an hour a day two days a week together and she walks a lot at work.
It finally stopped raining for a day but tomorrow it's forcasted to start again. Well the water table will be full anyway.

Good morning team.
When I'm not busy at work I watch the people go by. I've noticed that the majority of people go like they have tunnel vision and just walk straight ahead and never look around. They look like they are moving as part of a herd, following some unseen leader. Then there are others that are alert and see everything around them. They are like predators, aware of everything. I could stand there in my door way in a BOZO costume and most would never notice. Children are much more observent than their parents. The parents will pass and never look around and the child will look at me and smile as they pass.
From these years of observing the mall crowds I think that as most of us grow older we tend not to see the world around us anymore. We lose that childhood since of wonder that made the world around us so special. Some adults don't and I believe that adult athletes are among that group that retains a love of life and the beauty of our world.
Ok time to get my pudgy self to the gym and chase the fat cells.
Everyone have an awesome day.

Jack, Not a lot planned on the race circuit. I normally would do a lot of local 5ks on the summer, but will be travelling, training, and moving in (the benefits of graduating from college). My next race is the 14.2 miler at the Tupelo Marathon over labor day weekend. Then either the Memphis or Huntsville marathons. I found out I won't make it to Disney for the full because of the school calendar but am now aiming for either the Princess or a fall 2010 race (I'll have leave time by next fall to take the Friday before or the Monday after).
I'm still taking it easy. I did 5 miles at an 8 m/m pace and am going to yoga for a good stretch tonight.

Just a quick drive by for Jennifer. I go for a massage once a month for my neck. When I was having trouble with my knees, she concentrated on my legs 1/2 the time in one session and really helped. She also gave me some exercises to stretch my problem areas. If you can afford it, I would go to help relax your body. At times we're so stressed we don't even know it until the muscle is relaxed.
When I first started I went once a week for a month, then every two weeks then 3. I would be better off every 3 weeks but I can only afford the once a month.

Best,
Jennifer
Jenn- You kill me "an easy 5 miles at 8 m/m" that's taking it easy? You gotta make the full in 2010!
Come on we'll write you a note for school ~ Please excuse Jennifer she is not feeling well and is in dire need for some vitamin D at WDW :teacher:

Jack , I wish that would work. As a first year teacher, I know I'll be last on the totem pole, although have wondered if I could count the day after the marathon as a sick day. We all know we're pretty sick the day after, right?
Denise , Between finances and what I've read, I think I'm going to try every other week for the next two months and see if I notice any difference. I have definitely noticed a difference after the first one.
Today was my first day I can tell I'm fully recovered. I did 5 miles in 38 minutes (7:30 pace) and will go for a 1 hr Zumba and a 1 hr Pilates class tonight.
Best,

Hi TEAM! :wave2:
I am way behind, but did try to catch up on reading the post :upsidedow
Life is full of changes and challenges. A nephew passed away this week from a heart attack. He was only 51. Leaving a wife and three children 7, 16, & 17.
Lots of rain in Michigan also. Hagen & I washed some of the outside toys in the rain this morning. We were wetter than the toys!
Congratulations, Mary & Jenn :cheer2::cheer2:
Connie, glad to hear that Jon's test were all negative and he is okay! :goodvibes
Due to the conflicting times I am not doing my scheduled 5K race Saturday.
Later...

Hi team! Just popping in for a quick hello! Did 3 miles yesterday, I had hoped to finish in under 30 minutes but I missed by 20 seconds. D'oh! :headache:  I'll give it another try tonight as long as the rain stays away.
Dave - I notice the tunnel vision too but I think it's because so many of us are sleep deprived.
Jack - Don't think I've ever had Dunkin Donuts before. I'd be happy if they brought back the Krispy Kreme stores they closed ... well maybe that's not such a good idea.
Jennifer - What kind of yoga classes do you go to?
That's all for now... have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!
I am now officially unemployed again and back to living on my retirement. I spent the last 3 days collecting computers and census stuff from everyone and yesterday hauled it all down to Denver. It was fun while it lasted, but now maybe I can get back into a routine and get my everyday stuff done!
Lynn- the census is over? or was it just the first round? Was it interesting?
Just the first round - we were addressing residences - another round starts in July - canvassing places like hotels, college dorms and military baracks. The "real" census will be sent out in the mail next year, and then another round starts to follow up on all those who do not answer the mailed census form. And I did have alot of fun doing it, got to many areas of Cheyenne that I had not yet seen.
I went back to the Orthopod on Tuesday - he said there might be a anterior meniscus tear - but that does not respond well to surgery - so we are back to strength training exercises, and he did give me a cortisone shot which he said should kick in by today - I am still waiting.
I have been getting short walks in and some weight training - but still slow walks and nothing longer than 4 miles. It has been sunny and warm the last couple of days, but also very windy! Today is no exception. More rain for the weekend.
Have a great day everyone!

Morning Kids, woke up to the sound of no wind, so I got my butt out for a windless 5K. Nice sunrise , I made Macadamia, cashew, mango pancakes for breakfast.
Looks like a day of yard work, trimming, fertilizing, getting the sprinklers up and running, patching the brown spots, fertilizing the fruit trees, etc etc etc. did get the motorcycles washed last night. Just noticed one of the plum trees is blooming.
Well better get after it while there is no wind and rain.

Good Morning Team!
As Scott says, looks like a nice day so far - no wind is nice after a week of 35-45 mph winds constantly! Did not brave the wind yesterday with the dogs, so we need to get out today - I did not go with Scott because it takes me alot longer to do my walk than him for his run, and he would have been waiting awhile for me to get back - so I will just go later.
Have a great day!

Got up today and it was raining so had some coffee then decided that if I waited, I'd never go out so off we went when the coast was clear. It started to rain at the most furthest point in our walk but that's fine for me, the raindrops just kind of cooled me off. Did our 5 miles and then went to Lowe's for plants for Mark's mom. We'll plant her a little garden in her front yard tomorrow when she's gone to brunch.
It's been a hectic few weeks so I opted for a nap after lunch. Now we have to finish making Nick's cake decoration - it's his b-day on Monday. Off to mexican for dinner - his choice.
So far it's a good weekend. Sorry I haven't posted much recently but work has dragged me down and I'm just too tired at night. I do read here and there and get the email updates so I hear all about your antics!
Take care and Happy Mother's day to all. Those that are mothers, those that will be mothers and those gentlemen that take their turn being both mom and dad when needed!

Hi everyone! I woke up quite early this morning and saw that it was sunny... figured I'd sleep in another 1/2 hour. What a difference a half hour makes - the sky was black, there was thunder and it was hailing! Needless to say I didn't make it out for a run this morning but it's suppose to be a rest day anyway so I guess it works out.
Denise - That's a really nice story about the garden. The hail this morning destroyed a lot of my mom's flowers. They were tulips though so I don't think they can be replaced...
Scott - Sounds like a yummy breakfast!! I love mangoes :)
Margie - Sorry to hear about your nephew! I missed that part last week. Scrapbooking? Umm... :cutie: ... no
Sue - How was the Mother's Day tea? That sounds like fun :)
Lynn - How's your knee after you got the cortisone shot?
Dave - I had this thought of you pulling out venus flytrap plants out of your garden when you mentioned there were some "unusual" things growing there :upsidedow
Jennifer - One of my co-workers recommended hot yoga to me. Actually she quit last week to become a yoga instructor. I thought that was pretty cool! She's a runner too and said that yoga really helped her stretch out her hips and hamstrings.

Happy Mothers Day.
Our weather went south on us, 34 rain and fog, and there are a few patches of snow on the fences and barn roof. Good thing we got the sprinklers going LOL. This is the first house we have had with a sprinkler system and I thought it would be a pain but not that bad. Really glad we got those outdoor chores done yesterday.
Not sure what today will bring have to see what develops.
Wish we were at WDW.

Good Morning Team!
Happy Mother's Day!
Cortisone does not seem to be affecting the knee - I have not been for a walk since it should have kicked in - we ended up doing chores yesterday, and I never made it out (too bad, it was a nice day yesterday and it is raining today), but it seems to hurt as much as it did when I went in. I guess I will just have to rely on the weight training.
Have a great day everyone!

Vicky, That's cool about your co-worker. I have to admit since I'm going into teaching I'm hoping to be able to coach track or cross country at some point in my career.
I did 10.6 miles in just under 1 hr 30 today (8:30 pace). My legs felt pretty dead, so I decided not to push it to twelve like I had planned. The wind was making it even tougher, but at least it was sunny and warm.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on our team! Enjoy your day!

Well Dave and Erica at Disney does include lots of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. I even got one dumped on me UMMM accidently by dear Erica when I got snarky.
Connie had a cool idea about a change for the panda endurance logo with a triangle. Now a Logo with a beer would be good paty shirts for Disney and other rowdy adventure race weekends.

Dave - I am looking forward to seeing this logo.
I finally made it out yesterday for 3 miles with the dogs, slow going, misty and cold. But I have decided that I need to get in at least 3 miles a day for the knee - cannot say that the cortisone shot did anything for it - still hurts about the same as before the shot.
Scott and I are headed to CA for a few days - he has a conference, and I decided to go out also and visit my Dad for a few days. I will be depending upon hotspots to post, so I might not get on very regularly for the next few days.

Denise, Lisa (Princess Runner) is a personal trainer and does weight training programs for the DisneyRunning members. If you will PM her and tell her about Mark's leg problems she will be happy to put together a strengthing program for him. We are practicing now so that when ever we do get ready to start PandaEndurance training we will be ready. That could be next year if everything goes good, but the blog and free personal counseling has already started. Our own sweet Connie will be doing our nutrition counseling when we do all have the time and have all the bugs worked out so we can provide a quality product.
My project of "No Princess Races Alone" is going well I have sevreral that have hooked up with like interests that will be walking together. I'll be starting that over here on Wish also if no one else takes up the cause.
Scott, safe travels for you and your lady.

Erica and I had a very good day today, as good as yesterday sucked.
Started out we had a sunny day and 50 degrees when we started our 2 hour walk this morning. Erica did really good and we kept a brisk pace the whole time for a little over 8 miles.
Then a nice lunch at our favorite Red Lobster, I had blackened catfish and it was just right today some of the best I've had. Then we picked up Erica's free panty from Victoria's Secret along with the $10 off coupon so she could get one of her favorite bras for her mommy's day goody.
The we went home to wait for our stove to be delivered, that was a good excuse to clean the kitchen. We decided to recurtain the kitchen window, se we got a new heavy ornamental rod and hung it and the new curtains. I also fixed all the loose towel racks in the guest bathroom.
Our new stove worked and we made pizza with mushroom, black olive and extra cheese. It came out great, new stove works, YEAH!!
On the dark side we got another bill from ATT for $545 dollars, Erica had to get evil with them for about an hour on the phone before they saw things her way. But she won this round.
Hope everyone had as productive a day as we did.

Hi all!
Just returned from a trip to Denver with my DD, DSIL, and DGD. We went to visit my DD Dana who lives in the Denver area. Didn't do any running while there except to run after my DGD at the zoo! She rode in her stroller from the parking lot to just inside the entrance and then she was on the run from there! She is 21 months old and her dad is the one who did the half marathon in 1:24 so I think she is well on the way to following in his steps.
Margie...You asked a few days ago about Anna. I am happy to report that she is back to work full time and as feisty as ever! She recently looked in to doing the C25K program. She has also had some infertility issues and her doctor would like for her to lose some weight. She had planned to train for the Indy half marathon before the whole problem with her heart came up, so now she is thinking about C25K to try and lose a few pounds. She is also taking a kick boxing class at the Y.:thumbsup2
I hope to get back to running this week or next. Looks like we are in for big thunderstorms today and rain for the next two days after that. I picked up plants for my garden today, but I'm beginning to wonder if it will EVER dry out enough for me to get them planted!

Dave good the battle went well with ATT, see you are a handy guy with the curtain rod.
Sue hang in there on the renovation.

Howdy, Team!
Glad everyone is doing so well!!
MaryJ- Anna is doing wonderful! What great news!!!
Vicky - Moles are about the size of fat squirrel with no tail. They have great BIG teeth and BIG claws! They are quite the ugliest of all rodents and pure heck on a garden. They eat the roots of the plants. One day you have beautigul vegetable plants and the next day, ...zip! -- YOU will conquer those darn pound in nothing flat!
Good job on the mileage, Dave.
Scott and Lynn, have a great time!
Scott and Jack - Warriors are the heros and you are both my heros!
Sue - sorry about the renovations, but I think that delay is now the new "On time"!
Cleaning and cooking and taking care of things! Been doing some miles , stretches and weight resistance. :woohoo:

Congratulations TEAM - Great Mileage and Time for April!!!!!
Sue: Hang in there and think of how wonderful it will be in the end…it will be worth all this mess! :upsidedow
:hippie: Nice miles with your Walking Group. Impressive a new stove and clean kitchen! What happened with the terrible charges from AT&T? I have AT&T UVerse – one charge monthly for Telephone, Internet, and Television. I like it. On the dark side we got another bill from ATT for $545 dollars, Erica had to get evil with them for about an hour on the phone before they saw things her way. But she won this round.
Vicky: We can all relate to experience with weight gain. :rolleyes1
It is so frustrating when I am training hard it is impossible for me to lose weight! :sad2: Did a little scrap booking last night-:upsidedow

Hey guys!!
Sounds like everyone is doing really well with training and life. I have been kinda blah lately. That job I want hasn't posted yet and I am desperate for a light at the end of the tunnel. My running has been sub-par and I am still struggleing with the 10 pounds I've gained since last fall. We are still trying to get pregnant and that has it's own frustrations. All I know is I NEED A TRIP TO SEE MICKEY! ::MickeyMo
Sorry to come at everyone with a rain cloud over my head!:sad2:
On the plus side...Jordan and I run a 10K on Sunday!

Margie. Our daughter had a cell phone account that she had opened for herself and a couple of friends in her name and we cleared it. Since she is expecting we are trying to get her life stable so her and her boyfriend can live and support themselves. Yes bad situation and a constant source of stress. But we are getting through it.
Eva, you are a very sweet lady and I hope all your dreams come true.
We will be in Canada at the end of the month so we are getting one of those stick on the windshield GPS things so we won't be wandering the wilderness lost.

Good Morning Team..
I should be getting ready for work but just a quick note to tell you that my quilt studio has been featured in a blog from a Quilt Shop in Quitman Texas.
The best part is that there is an interest in using my Sweet Treats quilt as a block of the month or publishing it as a pattern. Who would have ever thought!?
Dave, we'll be getting your rain tonight and my fridge is so bare, it's worse than when I come back from disney so we have to get provisions and avoid the rain tonight so probably no walk tonight. My goal of 20 miles this week is heading down the drain, along with the rain. CRAP!

Jack, Senior Prank isn't really a prank. Each class has a color so we decorate/vandalize the various departments with symbolic things in our color. We're green so there was fake money in Econ, fake frogs in bio, toy soldiers in Political Science.
Eva, Good luck on saturday!
So apparently I've been going a little hard post-half (I blame the adrenaline (sp?)) and one of my knees is a little inflamed according my friend who's an athletic trainer. I'm taking a little easy and running on softer surfaces. So I did a little over 3.5 miles in 27 minutes (7:45 pace).
Oh and last night was the auction for the PE program I've collected points for and I won a $50 gift certificate to the Running Store and a Red Sox hat. So I think it may be shopping time.
Best,
Jennifer

Good morning team! I stayed up "late" to watch the season finale of Lost. I would have loved to re-watch immediately afterward but I wouldn't have been much use at work if I did. I did a 3 miler last night. I went a little slower than normal because my shins are still bothering me. I took DF with me and he ran a couple of laps too!
Jennifer - I think people at work are jealous - maybe they wish they could just pick up and leave for a job they love. Do you know what you're going to spend your $50 on? And what was the prank all about :)
Margie - We've got rain here too. I'm hoping it lets up by this afternoon so I can get in a few miles before dinner. Sorry to hear about your pillows. I have that same problem whenever I travel.
Eva - Good luck on your 10K! Are you going to WDW for free dining this fall?
Denise - Congrats on the write up! I think the Sweet Treats quilt is fabulous!

Hey team!
Thanks for the positivity! That job I have been waiting for posted yesterday and I have applied. My boss is aware and now I just have to wait for an interview. I have been told though that they may be making one of the part timers in that office full time and that then the part time position would come open (I can't do part time). So it's a waiting game at this point. But things have been better in the last couple of days and tonight is packet pick up for Sundays race! :cool1:
Vivky - Yes we are going for free dining in September...staying at POR. It should be a nice trip. I have already said though that if I get this raise then we might take a long weekend in June to head down and hit maybe one park. I need a break from Ohio and this stress!
Scott - Don't know how you still wake up early and get out there going to bed that late. I've been staying up later in hopes of getting this night job and I can't get myself up to run in the AM. I have been going after work to the gym.
Margie - You are making me jealous with the :goofy: stuff! I so wish that Goofy 2010 was in my cards!
Denise - That's awesome about the quilt becoming a pattern!! You are so talented...you deserve the recognition!!
Sue - So you are in spinning...I have been checking out the classes a bit at my gym. My one friend took a free class and she said it was HARD. I sweat buckets even on the recumbent..but I'd like to give it a try I think.
OK...well I should get back to work. I miss you guys...wish I could get in here more. Hope all is well! :o)

I had an amazing training walk this morning, it was just after daybreak with lots of dense fog, looked very sureal. I did my 4 mile hill route total time with slower warm up mile was 51:40. Really felt strong today and felt like I could have easily held that pace for at least a half.

Stayed with my brother last night up on the coast - so no internet. Tonight I am back at my cousins in Santa Rosa, so I have internet again. Been visiting my Dad who is in a nursing home for a few weeks - it has been a good but sometimes trying experience. Tomorrow, I will visit Dad in the morning, then drive south to San Jose to meet Scott and we willl be flying home Sunday morning.
I have been getting walks in every morning, but have not been doing my leg exercises, so my knee has not improved on this trip!

Good Morning:
Needed my beauty sleep so I got up at 5:30 and had coffee - sewed a bit watching the news then woke up Mark for coffee and a walk. He wanted to wait to walk but I knew it would get warm(for me) and I'd be pooped so I made it a priority to get my 5 miles in. He didn't want me to go alone so rather going to the hardware store at 8 he's going at almost 10 but hey - we've accomplished our 5 miles - 4 for him he had to cut it short.
It's a lovely day in NH(now) - honestly if you need the warm sun, just have me walk in your neighborhood. I start out in the cool cloudy morning and end up with the sun and heat but thankfully it was at the end.
An exciting day, cleaning cat boxes, groceries, cleaning my bedroom and then as a reward maybe a bit of sewing.
Eva - I know all about 10 pounds, it's my winter weight, that's why I really need to go out 5x a week to walk and for me it's only been here and there.
Connie-Margie - a walking schedule - sounds interesting.
Lynn, I know all about nursing homes, my dad was in one for 7 weeks before he passed and I went every day except 1. Mark came with me too. It was one of the best in the city but still very depressing.
Well the cats are staring at me, they want a new bathroom so off I go and start my day.

Denise, we have mischevious cats also. Erica must have animals. Not sure why but we must.
Connie, I have a competitive walk race on Aug 8th and Sept 9th, several other races coming up but they are mixed run and walkers. Then Thanksgiving Day is a walk race. Last year I was never worse than 3rd in any of my races and I won my age group in all of them.
I had pool fun today since I was a little sore in the quads from the hills yesterday. I hadn't attacked those long hills since last fall.
Only two weeks till we make the trip to Canada so Erica can do the Toronto women's half. It will be her first race and I got her ready with the 3 weeks I had to work with. She is on her feet all night at work so she just needed so regular miles.

"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ~Alfred Hitchcock
By now, most of you have figured out I like movies. A lot. Perhaps an unhealthy amount. Nevertheless, I think it's fun to talk about movies, especially now that the summer season has started. Wolverine has been released, so has Star Trek, with many more big blockbusters soon to come.
So this week's mixer topic is, predictably enough, summer movies! The start of the mixer, posted on the 'Ohana thread, is here. (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31868531&postcount=863)
What summer movies are you looking most forward to, and why? Also, how do you like your summer movies?
Feel free to talk about how you choose your flicks: based on directors, your favorite movie star, a beloved genre? And what is your ideal movie experience? Midnight movies or matinees? Chain theaters or independents? Drive-ins? What about the movie-going extras? With or without snacks? Buttered popcorn or chocolate?

Can you believe we're going to have a hard frost tonight?! Jeepers, Mark and I went out for 5 good miles and then came home and covered my baby tomato plants, cukes, peppers and flowers. Poor little babies, I know in NH never plant before the 30th of May but it was 90 3 weeks ago!
Way to go Eva on your race.
I never go out on Monday but my neck was so good today, I knew it would be a nice night to head out and we didn't walk yesterday and tomorrow I have hair appt so I did have to go tonight as an early am walk with the frost would not be in the cards for me! I could dress warm enough but Mark hates the cold.

Hi everyone! It was a long weekend for us in Canada - Victoria Day which celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th). So the long weekend usually falls on the last Monday on or before the 24th.
I went to see Star Trek which was great! I'm not a Trekkie and was able to follow everything quite easily. I have to say that it's nice to see a movie that doesn't have a lot of huge names attached to it - it's easier to focus on the story and the characters rather than trying to recognize someone. Speaking of which, I didn't even realize that Winnona Ryder was in the movie until the credits!
I also picked up a DIY closet organizer and plan to install that next weekend. Definitely not as glamourous as the renos I see on TV but I'm on a budget and just need something to get the job done :)
The only bad thing this weekend was that I slept in Sunday and Monday and missed my LR :(
Denise - Congrats to Nick! National release is huge :) Miranda must be so excited about her ultrasound - does she have a preference for a boy or girl?
Sue - WTG on all those miles :)
Connie - Shins are feeling much better! Hope you didn't get any crazy weather this weekend.
Dave/Erica - Can't wait to meet up with you, Mike and Kim in a couple of weeks!
Anyway, that's all for now! Hope everyone is having a great night :)

DH and I went to see Star Trek last night! I loved it and will definitely get the DVD when it comes out so I can watch all the extra goodies (deleted scenes, etc.) Was Winona Ryder the girl that was Uhura's roommate? I thought she looked familiar? I must admit that I have been a Star Trek fan since the original series, and I was happy that they didn't deviate too much from the old storylines.

Hi Mary!
Winona Ryder was Spock's mom. Gaila was Uhura's roommie - she was played by Rachel Nichols. Not sure if you had the G.I. Joe trailer playing before the movie, but she was also briefly in there as well - she's Scarlett.

Weather has been hot here - upper 80's, but will be high of 50 later in the week:scared1: We got the wildflower bed seeded last night, I have been weeding the rocks :rotfl: but have a long way to go. We were supposed to go to CO for the Bolder Boulder this weekend, but Scott has to work on Monday, and the race is Monday - so we cancelled the trip and will do the Virtual Bolder Boulder here on Sunday! That will give us time over the weekend for more yardwork - Scott wants to plant sunflowers and rasberries, and we have to replace some bushes that did not make it thru the winter.
Have a great day everyone!

Hello!
I was just (happily) assigned to your group! I am still trying to read through the old threads to get to know everyone and catch up.
Right now I am a beginner- running only about 2 miles four times a week, but progressing. REALLY looking forward to the WDW 1/2 in January. That is my current motivation to keep going!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and to share my numbers. I hope I can do you proud!
Also- where can I find the group and the WDW 1/2 logos for my siggie?
Thanks!

Hi Mary!
Winona Ryder was Spock's mom. Gaila was Uhura's roommie - she was played by Rachel Nichols. Not sure if you had the G.I. Joe trailer playing before the movie, but she was also briefly in there as well - she's Scarlett.
Yes! We did see the G.I. Joe trailer. I told DH we'd go see that only if they make a movie about Barbie too. ;)

Wow when you don't pop in one day things really move up the thread chain!
Today they come an install our central A/C. It's a little different in an older home but I have a friend that has it and it works great so looking forward to that. One of the air vents is in my sewing studio so I had to make room for them to work and cover a lot of stuff in here. We have hard plaster walls in that section oh the dust!
The other will be in my dressing room upstairs and that is a clothes dumping area, ironing board etc. It is now quite spiffy so I think I'd better keep it up :dance3:
No miles last night because of the above but hopefully we wont' have too much to clean afterwards and can head out for a walk.
Well I have to get a pot roast in the crock pot and another cup of coffee so I'll sign off.
Dave, let me know how you liked A&D, I want to see it - Mark is not thrilled so it may be me and Nick.

Welcome Jesters, glad you joined us.
Denise, we didn't go yesterday it just wasn't convient so we will probably go after we come back from Canada.
We just bought a GPS for our trip to Canada and just heard on the news that the govenment may not have the funds to maintain the Satalites any longer and are going to ground all the space shuttles soon. So GPS could be a lost cause. Don't be buying Garmin stock.
Connie how is your shoulder? Did it finally heal up good as new?
I'm off to meet my walking group.

Good Morning Team!
:welcome: Jesters!
To get the stuff in the signatures, you just kind of steal them out from the signatures - I am not very computer literate, someone else can probably tell you better, but if you right click on what you want, and copy the address (I think it is called), then import that into your own signature. I have been able to do it, but it has been awhile - I am sure a more computer literate team member can explain the procedure step by step.
I got in a 3 mile walk with the dogs yesterday, today will be another walk plus the leg routine. It has been hot here - upper 80's - today is only supposed to be 80 and tomorrow in the 50's!
Have a great day everyone!

I did a 45 minute tempo run, my first speed work since my half. Top speed 6:40 (sustained for 1 mile), low speed 8:45 (in warm up), average speed 7:45. Distance was just over 5.75.

Good morning y'all.
I met my walking group for a wonderful 8 miler on the hill and by the river. We did our 8 miles in 1:40 even for a pace average of 12:30 per mile. That was a nice comfortable conversational pace where we could tell stories and jokes, we had a nice discussion of the X Men movies.
We discussed the fact that using 8 miles as a regular weekly long walk is just about perfect fo half marathon training. All my walkers are using that and it's been working well for all of them.
Have a super day Y'all.

The new grand baby will be a boy, Erica just Texted me. As you know my daughter is as yet unmarried and unemployed. If anyone has baby stuff that they need a home for she could use them, as they have pretty much nothing.

Morning everyone!
I’m at work so a quick drive by. Mark and I went out for 5 miles last night. It was almost getting too hot for me but all went well. We met up with 2 ladies out for a stroll and they commented on how they see us walking all the time and wanted to know more about us. One of them looked familiar and it turns out she was my mother’s hair dresser many years ago and remember me as a youth. She was so glad she stopped us to talk. We were towards the end of our walk so we had a longer cool down that normal. I’ve often wondered how many people see us buzz by and question our motives or wonder who we are. I’ll bet that section of our route will know who we are shortly since it’s an area she has lived in for many years and knows all the neighbors.
Today is an “off” day for me, I’m finding I’m not so tired if I to one on and one off and the heat is going to be quite high tonight so we may do our miles in the am on Friday.
Well back to the grind.
Have a good one. Can’t read or respond to posts at the moment will catch up later.

Hi team! Not much of import to report today ... Planning to head out after work for a quick 3 miler. Hoping it won't be too hot - funny because a month ago, I think I was saying that I hope it would be warm enough :)
Jesters - :welcome:
Scott - Love sunflowers! I've never grown them before, just bought them cut at flower store. Are they hard to take care of?
Mary - I was joking with my friends that I was waiting for the My Little Pony trailer to play before the movie. One of my friends didn't realize I was joking and thought that there actually was such a movie! Hope your knees are feeling better today!
Dave - Congrats to you and Erica! You're going to be Grandad Panda :) Excellent time on that 8 miler!
Jennifer - 6:40 m/m?! You must have been flying! Does this mean you're going to be an elite runner for your next race? :goodvibes
Lynn - How are your knees doing? Did you have your appointment with the orthopodist yet?
Margie - Perfect patio weather huh? Not so much for running ... I think I'm going to have to start getting out first thing in the morning instead of running after work.
Sue - I know I asked you about the Running Room training clinics before but I can't what you said about them. Yay or nay? I'm thinking that since there are so many training plans online, I'd just go for their free running group on Wednesday.
Have a great day everyone!

Denise we never know just how many lives we change by being a positive role model. We have a unique situation since I'm known to most of our town's population, the ones that don't know me know Erica. I'm the eye guy for a lot of them and Erica has done eveything from deliver their babies to holding their loved ones hand during their last moments of life.
People comment to us all the time that they wish they could get in better shape and want to know how we got started. It seems so basic to us now to get out and move but there was a time that we just didn't have the energy.
Beautiful Canada is one week. Wonderful people and breath taking views, life is good.

Hello Team!
We went truck shopping yesterday. We were looking for another diesel. With the farm and all, we needed a truck that could haul tractors and livestock. We found one and it was almost exactly what we were looking for. We were prepared to shop KS, OK, and Tx for the truck we wanted, but in just one day, we located it.
Dave- (aka Windwalker) No baby stuff here. I got rid of it all a long, long time ago! My shoulder is just spiffy. As I understand it, it will never be as good as new, but then the rest of me won't either. I am still discovering little things that are hard to do, like reeling in a fish! -- Congrats on the baby boy! -- Aren't most sattelites privately owned? Seems like the shuttles have been carrying satelites as payload from private companies.
Denise-(aka WDW4us) I think it's up to your child to produce a girl! :) And congrats on the movie thing! I guess you are headed to Cannes???
Mary - (aka MaryJ) Good luck with that weight loss and those knees! When I weigh more I have knee troubles. I call it kneesles! :rotfl:
Jen - (aka WellesleyPrincess, Rachel Alexander) You speedy girl! We are all so proud of how far you have come!
WELCOME HOME, Lynn and Scott!
Vicky (aka Bunnyfoo) are you a trekkie or just a movie buff?
Margie (aka funwalker) Hi walking partner! June 1st is coming! Don't get too warm yet! We have lots of miles coming.
I have been cleaning house like crazy. Margie and I are base building starting June 1st and beginning back -to-back walks in preparation for the Goofy. I will be focused like a lazer beam (with any luck) and won't even be thinking about house keepping. Sure is spiffy, right now, though!
Jesters welcome to the team! We count miles and minutes. Miles are self explanatory, every mile counts! Race miles count twice as much! Minutes are any intended exercise and activities out of the norm, like lawnmowing and window washing, canoeing, pilates class, weights, ect, but not things like light housekeeping. Just private message me the minutes each week or month and I will tally everything together for our monthly totals! You will need 10 posts before you can private message, but you will get that soon with telling us all about you and the amazing things you are accomplishing. If you have questions, just toss 'em out there. Someone will know the answer, or at least make it sound that way!!!! As your Captain, I officially welcome you aboard the Hakuna Matata Team! :sail:
Jack you are off the hook. You are no longer the new guy on the team! Congratulations! :rotfl:
Well, I am outta here! See ya! Connie

Connie, Haha! Actually one of my friends chased me down last weekend to tell me a filly had won!
Oh and I'm pretty pump about that 6:40.
Vicky, I'm actually really excited. The next race isn't until Labor Day weekend (it's a 14.2-miler [instead of a half] held in conjunction with a marathon). It's a rather small (about 500 runners) local thing, but looking at the past times I should easily win my age group and if I improve definitely have a shot at winning or placing overall.
Today I did an easy 4 miles at a 7:45 pace, then did a 15 minute ab workout.
We have a nice taste of summer in Massachusetts that is getting me prepared to my move to Texas for the Summer and Mississippi a little later.
Best,
Jennifer

Good Morning Team!
Vicky - we do not know anything about growning sunflowers, but I guess we will find out:rotfl: Yes, I have been to see Orthopod, did not say much new other than a meniscus tear might be involved, but that it was not the kind that responded well to surgery, gave me a cortisone shot - which has not done anything for the pain - and told me to keep up the weight training, and come back in 3 months! Losing some weight would also help me tremendously!
Gray, cool day here today - high supposed to be 55 degrees and it is breezy. It might be nice after the 80-90 degree temps we have been having. Walk should be cooler today, and I did not have to walk before breakfast - my summer routine - to avoid the heat!
We got sunflower seeds planted yesterday along the back fence - if they grow, you will be able to see them as you drive by on Hwy 30. Now I just need to get some soaker hose to keep them watered, as I do not have a hose long enough to reach around to the back of the fence.
Have a great day everyone!

Foggy and cool here this morning, again, high supposed to be only 60 degrees, and we are supposed to have thunderstorms this afternoon. Another day that I can put off dog walk until after breakfast. The dogs and I made it for 4 miles yesterday!
We got a soaker hose set up to water the sunflowers yesterday - doesn't look they will need any extra water for a few days!

Thanks for all the spirited welcomes!
I haven't gotten much in these past few days. We just returned from a short getaway- to our son's college graduation. We took our two younger kids (DS12 and DD10) out of school so they could attend the graduation ceremony too. It was nice (but very loooong). Hoping to get in some running this evening.
I noticed a couple of you are from Cheyenne. We have family in Laramie, and are thinking about heading out west for a few days this summer. My DD10 wants to see the 'wild west'. I think in her mind everyone out west is still riding horses everywhere on dirt roads, wearing cowboy hats and chaps!
My DS22 actually went to college in Cheyenne his first two years, then transferred closer to home in MD.
Have a great day!

Scott does still wear his cowboy hat and chaps, he has this stick horse thing that he rides around on singing "I wanna be a cowboy". Actually he is more often found in his Jimmy Buffet suit.
Jester, I wish I could get our daughter to attend collage, she is unemployed, expecting and living with her boyfriend in a small apartment. Erica and I are both very much the go getters so this is making us want to run screaming into the night.
I'm getting ready to tuck Erica in for her day of sleep, she has been registering Mary at Target for baby needs. Mothers!
I'm going to get in a nice training walk after I get Erica tucked in. Probably 4 to 8 miles, haven't decided yet.
Jester, I'm a walker as is Denise, Lynn, Connie and a couple of others.

We went to the fabric store to buy PINK fabric to make baby quilts. Hope and I had a fun time.
Now it's time to plan accordingly.
Mark and I went out for 5 miles this morning. I asked if he wanted to take it easy but he said no so we did an average pace, nothing too fast but quicker than a stroll. I believe it's his IT band that's bothering him. From the description on the net and talking with him, he spent a lot of the 2008 1/2 in the grass as it was too crowded and he was injured at that time.
So we'll work on getting that in shape. He said he would come down to the track with me to watch me walk in the morning if he can't walk so I can still get my am workouts. either he'll walk with me or sit in the car and read the paper. If it gets too hot, I can only go in the morning.
TTFN, off to get groceries and then SEW!

Lynn and Scott, Can you explain the virtual Bolder Boulder? It sounds cool, but I'm not sure how it works.
As for me, started the day off on the wrong foot with Nike + technical problems. I'm going to try to take it in tomorrow.
Did 3 miles (one of my favorite routes so I know the distance) in 22:15 (timed the old fashioned way with a stopwatch). Took a little agression out on the run.
Special thanks to Jack and anyone else who has or whose family has served in the Armed Forces! Enjoy the holiday!

Hi Team.
I just finished mowing the yard, it was a struggle since the grass was high and wet and I was using a push mower. I still have to go to work today because I'm taking my days of as part of my Canada trip.
Hope everyone is having a super holiday weekend.

Good Afternoon Team!
Hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day - unfortuately, Scott is having to work - but I managed to get in my Virtual Bolder Boulder 10K walk before it starts to rain - now maybe, I can also get the lawn mowed before it rains!
Jennifer - The Virtual Bolder Boulder is doing the race where ever you are, you then map it on Mapmyrun, and if you have registered for the Virtual race - you will get the T-shirt and lunch bag that they give out at the end of the race. We did not register for the Virtual race because we had already registered for the regular race - and received the T-shirts, and we did not want to spend another $40 to register for the Virtual one, so ours is an "unofficial" Virtual race. Try the website, BolderBoulder.com, I think, or just google "Bolder Boulder 10K" - I'm not sure if the cut off was today or yesterday.
Dave - lawn mowing is on my list - I am just waiting a bit to let it dry a little more. May need to head out there really soon!
Have a great day everyone!

There is some sun today - not alot so far, but it is brighter than it has been. I did get the lawn mowed before the rain started yesterday. Pretty windy today.

Lynn, that is really cool! I may have to do that next year!
As for me I did 7 miles in 53 minutes today. I'm packing up today and tomorrow and then I'll head home for a few days before spending most of the summer in Texas and then moving to my new home in Mississippi.
Best,

Hi Everyone!
Had a busy weekend with bbq, shopping and some family time.
I forgot to log in my miles for the weekend so I have 10 to report. 5 on Saturday and 5 today. We went out tonight as I have bee tomorrow and the crappy weather Lynn is having is headed out way so off we went. It was a perfect night. Cool with a breeze. About 60.
So, I"m off to the shower and then, I'll probably crash.
Have a good night.
Scott and Lynn, contgrats on the virtual 10K. Jenn, when do you leave New England or are you already gone?
To everyone else. :flower3:

Good morning Team.
Busy day here today. I'm meeting my walking group for some good speed work and fellowship. Then it's off to the vet to board the chocolate lab and home to pack for Canada. Then off to work.
Erica assures me that it will be a breeze to find Toronto and Kim's place. I hate loooooonnnnnnnggggg drives and this will be a good 11 to 12 hours on the road. But there are princesses hugs at the end, life is good.
Erica is as ready for the half as I can get her with the short time I had, she should be around 3:10 and the time limit is 3:30 just like Disney. We did an hour at 14 mpm pace yesterday and she was fine.
I was going to have a PandaEndurance shirt for her to race in but all I can do spare of the moment was a computer generated vinal iron on and the guy at the shirt place said that wouldn't stay on with a big logo like that. So after we get back we will talk to the people at the silk screening place.
Denise's hubby Mark made the logo for me. I have it on my face book and my blog. Thank you Mark and Denise, you guys are aces.
Margie how are those ankles doing this year? Are you back to 100% yet?
All of us seem to have some little niggly that plagues us, my achillies, Scott's elbow, Lynn's knee, Connie's shoulder. I hope this is the year that everyone gets back to full speed.
Have a great day y'all and stay out of trouble.
Happy Panda:hippie:

Good Morning Team!
It's a rainy morning. Hard to get motavated. Waiting for the tea to kick in.
Dave & Erica, Safe travels. Anything exciting planned besides the race?
Connie, Very sorry to hear about your loss.
I'm doing a full at the end of Sept. & the training program has officially started. Doing this as a ramp up for the Goofy. Can't believe May is almost over.
Vicky, Don't get me started on the Running Room. I hate that they are the only real option for buying shoes. Went on the weekend to buy new shoes. The store wasn't busy. I've been wearing Mizunos but wanted to try a new New Bal. shoe. What attitude I got.
On to your question about the clinic. At this stage in your running I don't think any of the info. from the pre run talk will be anything you don't already know. I joined the clinic to run with some faster runners to try & push myself to run a little faster. The fast group was too fast & the other group was too slow. Just didn't work for me. Glad I tried it. Wouldn't do it again.
Have a great day.....Expecting more rain throughout the day.....I think I'll be on the treadmill......Sue

Hi everyone,
I did 4x 800; I did the 800s at a low 7 minute pace (3:30-3:40) and then recoveries in the low 9s.
Total of about 3 miles. Almost done packing and heading back to the South on Friday.
Best,

Hey guys! I missed another good mixer I see! I'm off on Mondays and Tuesday are always so busy here at work that I can't seam to pop in! Oh well....
I got out and did 4 miles today. The first time out since the Cleveland 10K. My hip has been acting up since last week. Feels like a pinched nerve...so I'm taking it easy.
Sue - Excited for you about the Full in Sept!! I made Jordan promise to not let me book bounceback this year when we go in the fall so I can run a full next year in September.
Dave - Have fun visiting our neighbors of the north!!!
Lynn - Are there other virtual races? That sounds like fun!!
Hope everyone else is doing ok. I've been burried here at work and a busy bee at home. I have an interview for that position on Monday...I need pixie dust!!!
Miss you guys!!! :grouphug:

Good morning everyone! Another rainy and cloudy day here. I'm hoping that it finishes raining by Sunday - the cool weather can stay though :)
Eva - Good luck with your interview! Keep us posted :) Sorry to hear about your hip. Haven't had a pinched nerve before. I guess the Stick or a tennis ball wouldn't do much good in that case?
Lynn - The virtual race sounds fun :)
Sue - I've gotten that attitude at the Running Room before. No idea why. Have you tried going to the New Balance Store (Bayview Village - Sheppard Ave/Bayview) or Running Free? There's a women's only 10K on Center Island in August. Have you heard about it?
Dave/Erica - See you in a few days!
Jennifer - Safe travels! Are you moving to Mississippi permanently?
That's all for me! Have a great day everyone!

Lynn and Vicky, I graduated from college and will be moving to Mississippi semi-permanently at least. I'm going to be teaching lower (K-3) elementary school there. I'm spending the summer in Houston first.
No running for me today. Moving counts as cross training, right? ;-)

Good Morning Team!
Woke up at 4am this morning, felt like I had lead legs so I got up to do the ellip. Bottle of water, sweating for a 1/2 an hour but I feel so much better. Lots of stretching after,a great way to start the day.
Still crappy weather here in NH but tomorrow should be better and it's the weekend!
Have many baby quilts to work on and other stuff going on so I can't wait to get the day started and the OVER so I can play.
I'm sure Dave and Erica and on their way to Canada. Lots to do up their and if I remember correctly Canada's wonderland has a ton of roller coasters and the BEST soft serve. Maybe they can check it out and report back to us!
Have a good one - I'm off to get the warpaint on and fix the hair.

Hey Guys,
It's been a really long week here. I have read everything and am pleased to see all of you doing so well.
I will get back into the swing of things, starting Monday! That's the best promise I can make!
The memorial service went well and the spreading of the ashes is coming in July. Poor guy, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer 2 years ago. Chemotherapy gave him 3 months remission when it came back in his liver and panacreas. He applied for and was accepted into an experimental program. Like so many of those, the cure killed him and not the desease. The drug was devastating. It probably wouldn't have been my choice, but then again, it wasn't.
Take care my friends.

Good morning team! Happy Friday :) I'm going tonight to pick up my packet for the 1/2 on Sunday. I'm hoping the weather will stay cool. Firefighters and a chocolate station - should be a good time! With all those distractions, here's hoping I finish :rotfl:
Jennifer - I forgot to congratulate you!! I would say moving is like cross training - lots of lifting, heavy boxes etc.
Connie -
Denise - Lots of coasters at Wonderland. They have great funnel cake but I haven't been there in years! It use to be in the middle of nowhere but the area has really been developed in the past couple of years.
jesters - How's the running coming along?
Okay, that's all for now! Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Hi Kids,
Been busy at work in trial all week and trying to get my admin stuff done early in the morn, did get in a 5K this morn really needed it. This trial is really taking it out of me, will be glad when it is over.
Congrats to Jennifer on the Job, in these times public service does not pay the best but the rewards can not be counted.
Gotta get going, have a great weekend.

It's my turn to be a spectator this weekend. My husband has his first triathlon of the season. Even with the wetsuit I'm glad that he is doing the swim not me. brrrrrrrr.

RE Virtual Races: the Bolder Boulder is the only one I can recall of. There was a place to register as a virtual runner/walker. Register on line, run the race the day of the real race, I would think this would be common for fund raising races, i.e. Susan Komen.
We played in our Kayaks last night and they were fun.
Lynn just finished a dog walk.
Yard work today, Have a good one....

Good Morning Team!
Another nice day here today! Think we will try to get the kayaks out again, we were going to yesterday - but waited too long and an band of thundershowers came thru. Dogs got a 3 mile walk in early yesterday morning - before breakfast, it is starting to get warm, and I will have to start walking dogs before breakfast for the summer.
Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Everyone,
I got out today and did 2 easy miles. It's not much, but it's a sight more than I have been doing lately. It felt pretty darn good. I met two St Bernards on my way home. Big ole friendly dogs! The owner kept apologizing for them, but they were really sweet dogs even if they did come up to my waisT!
Lynn, sorry about your loss. Please stay in touch.
Jen congrats on the teaching job!
Good luck Erica!
Off to make laundry soap. See ya! Connie
PS today is the last day of May!!!

Hey everyone! I did the Toronto Women's Half this morning! It was quite chilly but perfect for running. I met up with Kim, Mike, Erica, Dave, Roger and CJ before the race started. I have some pictures but they're on DF's laptop so I'll have to wait until he gets back from his meeting before I can get them. Btw, how do I post pictures?
The course was an out and back through a park that runs through the middle of the city. The paths were narrow and there was one way traffic through lots of course but it was manageable. Lots of giant puddles that were hard to avoid sometimes - luckily it stopped raining last night. A couple of cute firefighters and just when I thought about stopping to check them out - I spot our guys! Mike drove them over - I think this was just around the 10K mark. It was a really nice surprise!!
Unfortunately, for me I lost steam just after 17K and I slowed down a lot after that. I was hoping the chocolate station would give me some extra energy but it didn't. I didn't really even have much energy for that last kick at finish but I did manage to pass a couple of runners. I finished in 2:22 which is still a PB but I was hoping for 2:20 or under. I guess that will be my goal for my September 1/2 :)
Oh, I also saw two cheaters on the course. They turned around early at one of the turning arounds - I don't think they cut much time maybe 2 minutes but it still made me angry.
Sue - How did your DH do on his tri? It really was a chilly day for a swim.
Connie - Saw a couple of St. Bernard's today at the race. They're so adorable!
Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the congratulations! To make things even sweeter I made all A's my last semester!
I am safely back South! It's literally double the temperature down here that it was the day I left.
I managed to get in 30 minutes on an exercise bike in the hotel on Friday and ran 4.75 miles in around 38 minutes (7:50 pace) on a treadmill yesterday. I'm planning to go on a 3.5-6.5 miles "stretch" run later tonight and a long run tomorrow.
Check in with you guys later!

Congrats to all the ladies up north doing the 1/2.
I checked my miles for the month and wanted a nice round number so Mark and I headed out for 4 so I could have an even 40 for May.
I've been doing a lot of sewing this past week. My SIL will be turning a young 60 in August and I had started a quilt for her 5 years ago. It's been in pieces so I set a goal to finish the blocks this weekend and start the assembly process. I met my goal so I'm quite pleased with myself. Same as walking and doing miles, setting a goal in all aspects of our lives helps us to strive and achieve them.
Well I need a bit of food to the miles did seem to make me hungry.
Vicky - we had some of that cold Canadian air come through, could you shut the door! Chance of frost in some higher elevations of the state. brrrrrrrr
Good night all, alarm goes off at 4:30 so I'll be heading upstairs soon.

Last run of May!
Did 4.5 miles in 40 minutes (a "slow" 8:50 pace). The heat, humidity, and hills slowed me down. I'm also in a rotating in new shoes and rotating out old shoes period so that and the moving didn't help.
Best,

I know you're all ea-GEAR to share your knowledge about your favorite clothing, training aids and technical toys, so this week's prompt posted here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32075505&postcount=950) on the 'Ohana thread is:
Beyond the basics, what's your favorite/most-useful/most loved gear?
Of course, feel free to talk about your favorite shoes, socks, tech shirts or sports bras or other necessities. But I think we'd all like to know about that special something(s) that you've added to your "must have" for training, racing days, or just plain pleasure. For some of you, maybe it's your Garmin. Other, a special brand of sunscreen or a specific brand of water belt? Still others, a strategy for taping your legs and feet or a a favorite tracking website?
Please share your special finds with the rest of us. :thumbsup2
