Well, I'm going to get May started off!
It was beautiful yesterday; sunny and temps in the high 60's. Around 3:30, I looked around my department and realized that I was the only one in the entire area that was still there! And I'm an intern! Yeah right! So I snuck out as well, and went for a nice 6 mile run around Lake Union. I've been running that route regularly for almost a year, but I've NEVER seen so many people out; everyone and their grandmother seems to have gotten the bikes out this week! Which of course means that no one understood the pathway lane rules (that particular path has separate "wheels" and "heels" lanes, and then left and right within those lanes) and I almost got clocked by bikers several times. :confused3
Speaking of bikes, today is the first day of REI's big spring sale, so I'm going to go look for a bike for myself today or tomorrow. My $60 Target Magma that is held together by duct tape is no longer cutting it - I no longer even lock it up anymore, I just take off the parts that I want (mud flaps, lights, etc.) and hope that someone steals it. Alas, no takers yet. :rotfl: But, I'm hoping to pick up a nice 15% off commuter bike in the next few days! And we're going to look for a bike rack for the car so that we can take this show on the road - we picked up a K9 Bike Jogger for Jack a few weeks ago and are looking forward to taking him for some rides/runs in the mountains this summer. He LOVES to run next to the bike, because it FINALLY means that he doesn't have to slow down so that the puffing human can keep up!
I've also been dusting off the Disney recipes this week - off to go finish baking the Whispering Canyon Cafe Strawberry Banana Bread!
Happy Weekend, Warriors!

Happy May Day, or as we celebrate in the islands "Lei Day."
Princess #1's second triathlon in the morning. Low registration numbers, which is good, meaning she'll have better chance at winning the door prizes.
Great Aloha Friday everyone.
do we still get to double our miles for april if we did a half and 10k ? I know we are not to double our times but was not sure about miles from races

HEY WARRIORS!
I know I was pretty absent as far as posting in april, but I did keep up with the spreadsheet. I am hoping to be around more in May. LTO in the form of an almost 2 year old!
I am planning to run a 5k in June, so I am using that for motivation to get my running mojo back.
One super positive thing is that I have lost almost 10 pounds since early April which puts me with in 20 pounds of my goal weight!!
I am off to Disney tomorrow for the day, for my birthday!!:woohoo: I am going to bring my garmin, I am curious to see how much we walk.
Cheers,
Amy

You can double your miles for any race that you have done. Yepper!!! (and like you said you can't double the time!)
I was at the beach this morning and it was NIICEE!! Funny as I forgot to put sunscreen on my feet. The tops got a little bit of sun and so I have flipflop outlines on them. haha
Then 30 min in the pool doing walk/run sprints and laps.
This was my view from my chair!!

Oh Tracy that's such a lovely view! I'm getting a little bit jealous :guilty: Great work doing the swim laps.
I went out today for 9.5miles, really want to keep a bit of distance up but it was harder than i expected! 88 mins of running 10 stretch. Did 40 mins core work yesterday and i can DEFINITELY feel it!
I'm considering a 10k in manchester in July- convinced my boyfriend to run it so just need to get it booked.
Aww Amy hope you have a wonderful birthday with lots of exciting pixie dust!

I almost forgot. My wife met President Obama's sister, Maya Sorento-Ng on Sunday at the children's theater production of "Goodnight Moon." Her and her daughter were in attendance.
I previously mentioned my wife's co-worker is Maya's best friend from college.
So, needless to say, my wife and younger daughter were quite excited from their brush with celebrity. I shook my head and asked, "Where's the picture?"

Good morning Warriors....
I had all intentions of doing 8 miles yesterday. When I woke up I was feeling "wierd", can't really explain it any other way. I did 3 instead as I was feeling a bit light headed. I was supposed to go out on my BIL boat and decided against it as being on a boat is the last place I wanted to be being a bit dizzy feeling. After I got back from the 3 miles and showered I was feeling a bit warm. I decided to take my temp and low and behold it was 100.4 so it was a day to stay home. I had no other symptoms just a fever. So to the recliner I went and camped out for the day. Took the advil about every 4-6 hours and drank so much fluids, kept the blanket on to try and sweat it out. Temp was pretty low last night and this morning its normal.
So, what did I have?? I have no idea, but hoping that whatever it was is gone now!!!
Jeff: Nice photos especially of the food!!! Looks like a good turnout!

Hey Warriors-
I'm finally posting my April times- it's 90 miles at about 15 hours. Does that sound right? I'm thinking 10 minute miles roughly.
Alas, my May has not started off so well. I've been sick since last Monday- mostly cold like symptoms with one truly horrible night of GI related issues. :rolleyes1 My brain is a little fuzzy from the cold meds I just took (thus my inability to translate miles into hours!) Emma had strep throat- we go for a followup appointment today. I'm going to ask her doctor what the heck I caught. Sure, I'm a little old for a pediatrician, but I'll threaten to cough on her if she doesn't cure me. ;)
Hopefully I'll be running again soon! I'll stop wallowing in self-pity now...
Tracy- hope you just have a fever!! Take care!
Jeff- love your pictures and stories as always.
Amy- happy belated birthday!

Hi Warriors! Sorry I haven't posted since last week. I had a very busy weekend. Spent 7 hours in the car on Saturday to go to the family reunion.
Then on Sunday, I got up and did a last minute 5 mile race in the rain! Yay...double miles to begin May!
So after all that and a crazy day at work yesterday, I am finally able to post my April totals (sorry...Tracy). 92.15 miles / 16:01:50. I just love what the long bike rides do to my totals!
Speed work at the track scheduled for tonight!
Have a great week Warriors!
Amy Happy Late Birthday!!!
Jeff love the photos. How cool your wife got to meet the Presidents sister.
I hope everyone else is having a good May so far. I will post for April total miles 134.61. I was able to get in a half marathon and 10k. Yeah for double miles there. time was 14 hours 18 minutes. Have a good week and weekend everyone. Once the kiddos are out from school I will be able to post more. I cannot believe how crazy it is around here. For now so long.

Hi Warriors!
I've been pretty busy the last few days, but am looking forward to a quiet weekend.... eventually. Is it only Tuesday?
I got in back to back long-ish runs (7 miles on Saturday and 8.5 and Sunday) but I've pretty much done in my hamstrings for the week. I'm going to get in a shorter run tomorrow, so hopefully my legs will be feeling more up to it.
I also traded up my falling apart $60 Target bike for a Cannondale Quick 4 (a 24-speed hybrid) this week. I'm really enjoying the existence of gears that work, as well as it being light enough to actually make it to the top of hills. Wow, the difference that....oh.... $500 makes. :lmao: But we figure it'll be worth the cost; I like to bike commute to work and we're looking forward to taking the bikes (and the dog with his bike jogger) to the mountains this summer - there's a really nice long flat hard-packed trail (it used to be a train line) that is just begging for a 2 day out-and-back bike camping trip.

Sarah: the new bike sounds nice!!! I am also looking for a new bike, or a bike in general as my other one died a slow death, can't wait to ride around. Hope you hammies get better soon - stretch!
Michelle: Hey girl, how's it going? 5 mile race in the rain? - cool and good going!
Aloha Jeff!! Sounds like your tri training is coming along nicely!!
AFM: I did a nice 4 miler last nice and again did negative splits. I have a charity walk this weekend on Sunday and I just signed up for a Memorial Day 5K! Yes, gotta keep moving ya know.
Have a great Wednesday everyone and keep on moving on!

Yay Sarah! A new bike! I want a new bike so bad! Mine is a hybrid and I really like it, I just have found that it does not compare to the road bikes that I am trying to keep up with! Enjoy it!
Jeff - I wish my tri training was going as well as yours, but then again, I don't have the Pacific Ocean to jump into whenever I please!:rotfl: Great job, my friend! Keep it up! When is your tri again? Mine is on 6/6...exactly one month away!
Hey Tracy! I am doing good, just seem to be really really busy lately! The 5 mile race in the rain was so much fun! The course is considered the toughest course in Sacramento...1/2 road, 1/2 trail, with 4 major "named" hills. My goal was one hour and I finished in 1:05. I was happy with that considering how bad the trail portion was. Nothing but mud and puddles. But it was so much fun!
Great job on those April totals, Warriors!
Speed work at the track last night. 3 miles total. Whew...
Back at it tonight with the running group!
Have a great Wednesday, Warriors!

Michelle-great work getting a race in, 5 miles with 4 named hills is very very very impressive! Also brilliant that you're doing track work- this still tempts me but i need to find a group otherwise i'll feel silly!
Jen that's crazy hot! Yeah it seems like a great way to schedule a run in, you just need to live somewhere else :rotfl:
Jim i've been watching the temps over there- it looks roasty toasty! You amaze me how dedicated to training you are!
Tracy you are an event queen and getting negative splits is brilliant :woohoo: someone told me i had to get a new hobby and stop looking for races- i'll tell them to speak to you!
Sarah :cheer2:for new bike! Are you loving it still?
Jeff i always wondered what was missing from our running club, now i know: food, sea, warmth and what looks like such a community atmosphere. It looks lovely.
Roxy :banana:great april miles. Lovely to see you too
AFM- tues running club 6.7miles with a very friendly new little group. For some reason a lot of the regulars were missing, but it was actually a nice change.

I'm officially back in teh sadlle again. Started with one of my fave work outs (biking to/from dinner). Still, we took teh long way there and got in 10.8 miles in 48 min. Very slow, but you raeally can't go much faster ont eh bike path.

Hi Warriors! I've not had a good chance to get to read this month's thread yet.
It's been a busy week with a trip to WDW. Whew, that was one hot hot hot place. I got in a lot of steps and enjoyed being there doing them.
Next two weeks will be Cancun. I'll be beach training and pool training; oh, and I'll probably be working my arm lifting a drink or few.
I'll try to check in during some of the planned down time. Not sure if the connection will work since my computer is not the best.

Michelle: Your running group sounds really great, with a lot of variety worked in! :thumbsup2 And that's awesome about the cycling, as well - I would love a road bike, but it just was not worth the extra money for the type and amount of cycling that I do. Yeah, I get passed in the bike lanes by the spandex crew every morning, but I'd look terrible in spandex anyway. :rotfl:
Jeff: Speaking of running groups, and I missed this on the last post, your picnic pictures are really great! I'm so jealous about having such a social (and food-oriented! :lmao:) group to train with!
Tracy: Are you feeling better, then? Mysterious illnesses are always.... mysterious. Oh, and speaking of great photos, I'm so jealous of yours! We have beaches here in Seattle, but.... well, I tried to coax Jack into the ocean during our run on Sunday but it was too cold even for him! And he'll swim in Lake Washington in the middle of January!
Jen and Jim: (and Tracy as well, I guess) I always wonder how you Floridians cope with the summer heat. I do envy you many things, but that is not one of them.
Carrie: Thanks for the downward dog tip - I keep meaning to find a regular yoga class around here (it's Seattle, so it's not like it's hard!).
I got out for a short 3 mile run today in the rain after work. It was one of those nice rainy moments where the sun is still peeking out of the clouds, but yet it's pouring. My hamstrings are still complaining, unfortunately, so it's more taking it easy and STRETCHING. I've never had hamstring issues before, but I think I overdid it last week (I ran over 20 miles in 3 days all at the end of the week) and just need to take it easy and let them recover.
And for everyone who asked, I LOVE my new bike! It had its first real true test today - I was volunteering at the maritime career day put on by the museum that I worked at last year and decided to bike there, as I did every day last summer with my $60 Target bike. This is an easy bike ride in that the entire route has nice cycling lanes, but brutal in that the last few blocks down to the waterfront are so steep that they have grooves in the sideswalks so you don't slide down in rainy weather. I couldn't ride my old bike up those blocks, and had to walk it for about 4 blocks on the way back home. The first thing that shocked me is that the ride took about half the amount of time with the new bike (and I haven't biked the route in 4 months now). And.... I could make it up the hill! I was definitely on a "bailout" gear and even then had to stand up for a bit, but I made it! :rotfl: I can't believe it's taken me this long to see the light!
Have a great Friday, warriors!

Lily: Please don't hurt that arm. Lifting drinks is hard work!!
Carrie: Hey girlfriend, nice to see your back into the swing of training!!
Jim: Yeah, its been a bit hot here in S. Florida also. Although had a nice breeze the last week or so.
Kate: Good workout on the Tready?? UGH. I am happy for you though. And yes, I try to get in an event a month if I can.
Michelle: Me? I'm here just floating around a bit, here , there and everywhere.
Jen: Running in the middle of the afternoon? Wow, girl. Be careful please! Hydrate and use your sunscreen. I congratulate you though for getting out there and getting it done.
AFM: I was out of Mt. Trashmore tonight. Nice 4 miles and just did the miles tonight and not worry about time. I think that is good to do from time to time.
Sarah: As for the Summer heat, As of now its not too bad and we have had a very nice breeze the last few weeks or so. Being that I am about a 20min drive from the Atlantic Ocean helps. The more interior you live in FLorida the more stagnant the air can be. Can be a bit opressive. WHen its hot you just get out early in the am or later in the pm and stay in the A/C and shade in the middle of the day.
Have a great Thursday Warriors!

Happy Aloha Friday Warriors.
I went for a lunch time walk downtown to run errands. About a mile, and was it hot.
So when it came to my regular afternoon run, I cut it short to 6 1/4 miles instead of 8 1/4. Total for the day was 7 1/4.
I got back to our starting point at Ala Moana Beach park, to partake in our post run BBQ's. (Yes Deb, we've started cooking again, LOL).
Sarah, my motto is "Live to Run, Run to Eat."
Tonight's menu included: Vegetable and fruit kabobs, Steak Kabobs, Spinich salad, bean salad, potato/macaroni salad, Ahi (tuna) poke, and guava cake.

Hey Warriors-
Took last two days off to get over remnants of hacking cough. I'm running in my first 5k in forever tomorrow. My plan? Run a little warm up and then run really, really fast for 3 miles and hope I don't keel over. The actual speed involved in "really, really fast" will be determined in the morning. It's a very scientific approach.;)
I'm so jealous of the recent bike stories! I go through bike phases. I kind of want one, but the cool image in my head is totally ruined when I think of having to hook up a double trailer for the boys...:rolleyes1
Tracy- I thought of you on my last run when I realized I need to use more sunscreen. How mad would it make my mother that I don't listen when she tells me, but I totally get the message when you tell me?!

just popping in after my best swim for a long time- this seems to be a good week! did 44 lengths in 30 mins- 0.68 miles. Also core work 35mins. Have to reduce my mileage following physio orders- apparently i should be running 2-5miles at the moment because of hamstring strain and post marathon recovery. Hmm. Keep it up everyone :)

We went out for a Joints in Motion training run yesterday, but cut it off short after only 5 miles, because my fiance's knee was bothering him. It was a lovely day, and a beautiful run along the shores of Lake Washington, though. Later in the morning, we went out to visit with our cousins and their kids on the north side of Lake Washington, and went to the state park up there to hike a bit and play on the beach.
So, here are my own beach photos to add to the mix... even though it's Lake Washington and not the ocean (although we do have that, too, and even closer than the Lake, but unlike Jeff's Pacific Ocean, you wouldn't want to jump in it, even on the warmest day of the year!):

The kids thoroughly wore out our German Shepherd, with balls and sticks and frisbees!
And now I'm cycling off to the grocery store to get some bagels for breakfast!

Sarah : Great photos and thanks for sharing.
WARRIORS!! Hey there everyone!! I just got back from a nice, hot and sweaty charity walk.
I hate to do this but I need times and mile for the following Warriors:
Erica - Hey girl I need yours for March and April, if you could PLEASE, PLEASE post them so I can add them to the teams overall times.
Marcie - Not sure if I got all of March and I don't have anything for April.
Jeff (GrumpyinNY) - hey you, please let me know or have Stacey let me know you time/miles for April. I have Stacey's but not yours.
We are doing pretty well, but kinda in the middle of the pack for team totals and such. I know its the summer and for some of you I am sure you are LOVING life right now because you can get outside and go for it. So, people lets get out there and pound out the miles!!! Remember you can use any activity that raises the heart rate for a good amount of time. Like Sarah, you said you were riding your bike over to the grocery for bagels - THAT CAN COUNT!! Try to figure the miles and the time spent on the bike!!.
Have a great Mother's day to all our wonderful Warrior Moms out there!!:flower3:
Let's keep at it everyone!!!:woohoo:

Sarah those pictures look so lovely and way to go for so much exercise in one day! great inspiration. Yeah the mile reduction could be a good thing- not for our miles tho!
Lily glad you had a lovely roasting at WDW and hope Mexico's amazing.
Jen hacking cough does not sound nice, very pleased you're taking care of yourself.
Jeff I'm loving that motto- i'm not sure i could ever not run now i've got used to gobbling lots of lovely food!
My speedy week has continued (don't want monday to come, it'll end!)- ran 3.14 miles in just over 25 mins averaging 8.13min/mile!!!! Where is this coming from? Hamstring sore but still ignorable so full steam ahead to the 10k in july. Went to such a lovely wedding last night and introduced my boyfriend to lots of friends- very exciting :yay:

Ok, Jeff, so your patch of the Pacific Ocean is much prettier and more swim-able than mine! I'll give you that. But, I'm just going to give one ocean picture from my run on the Magnolia Bluffs by my house last weekend. We have two mountain ranges within 20 miles east and west of the city!
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00377.jpg
Ok, so palm trees and actual beaches would be nicer, but.... I'm making myself feel better.
Biked over to REI this afternoon (biking to REI somehow makes me feel like I have more REI street cred :) ) to try on running skirts to see if I could find one with compression shorts that fits me (I am blessed with a small waist and huge thighs, meaning that pants that fit are hard to find) and ended up owning a Skirt Sports one. I really did not mean to buy it.... but I hadn't used my 20% off one item yet and... Man, I need to own less sports equipment.

OK, having a lot of jealousy issues here with the ocean pictures... we go to the beach fairly often, but it's not that pretty! And don't get me started on bike jealousy, plus proximity to an REI!;)
Did my 5k this weekend. It was hot and hilly and I'm not 100% over my cold. But, I finished within a minute and half of my PR from 2 years ago. (My PR was pre-baby, cold weather, 10 pounds lighter, and in the middle of lots of miles for Goofy training). I was pretty pleased. And I ran into some friends there who are doing their first tris next weekend- again, with the bike jealousy!
Here's my new plan: train for a 5k on July 4. Take the results and put them into training for a half on Oct. 3. Take the half results and try to train hard for a full Dec. 20. I may tweak it a bit so I'm doing more miles training for the half since I won't have a ton of time between the half and full. Have I lost my mind or do you think this is an ok plan? I've found some schedules to follow and have plugged in the dates, but no one in my immediate family wants to know the details. :rolleyes1Shocking, I know.

Okay I am so jealous of everyone's ocean and lake views lol all i have is the dirty winter cover for my pool!
Lily- glad your trip went well!!
Jen - great job on your 5k!!
I wanted to get out and at least walk a little today- but the sky looks rather dark and ominous... So I may save that til later. I will be getting some cardio in later, though- I'm going to the Pens-Capitals game tonight and I will definitely be doing my aerobics- jumping up and down out of my seat! haha

Happy Monday Kids!!
I am finding lately that I am having trouble fitting my training in around "The Real World".
Nothing on Fri/Sat, but at work yesterday I did about 50 minutes of P90X fitness work.
Today I managed to get another hour in & then did a short, but not that quick 14 mile bike ride. First time I have been on my road bike in a few weeks. Hopefully I will start stretching it out some in the near future.
Tomorrow - HOPEFULLY I will do some ocean swimming. The surf is still a bit nippy, but I am pointing to a little sprint Tri in June, so it's time to start growing gills again.

After checking this morning's surf report, NOOOOOOOOOOOO swimming today!!
71º surf temp, plus a forecast of intermittent thunderstorms (but none yet :confused3) convinced me not to practice not drowning today.
Instead I had this GREAT idea to do my own little duathlon this morning (5k run, 20k bike, 5k run). UNfortunately, after the bike, the phone rang & that was that. But I DID get the 1st run + bike in for a total of 15.2 miles. I mis-planned the bike route, so it came up a bit short, but otherwise a fun morning.

Hellooooo ~
Sorry I've been MIA lately, but I've been having a heck of a time trying to get cable and internet installed!!! DirecTV would not install a dish onto my new house, even though there are 3 installed around the new development. AT & T missed the scheduled appointment and didn't even call, Comcast said they didn't service my area, even though my neighbors next door have comcast! LOL it's been one big hassel after another. I've been logging on at work every now and then, so I've been keeping up with everyone.
I offically started training for my 1/2 marathon in July!! So hopefully I'll be logging in more miles on the road and not as much gym time.
Happy Tuesday,

I've been concentrating on building core over past couple of days to give my legs a rest.think they've enjoyed it.Also been debating a slight career change to sports and exercise psychology, lots more research needed yet tho!

I got out for 8 1/4 miles in 1:15, and followed it with a 400 meter swim in about 25 minutes. I forgot my bike, so didn't get a chance to ride. Rats! LOL.

Morning All! Looks like everyone is doing great putting in those miles! Let's keep it up even with the heat moving in on everyone. I would feel sorry for you, Jeff, but it's supposed to be 100 here by this weekend! I would much rather be hot in Hawaii than hot here!:thumbsup2
I have had a great week so far (well...workout wise anyway.) Had a bad day at work on Monday...but that's another story. Went on Sunday and did my first "long run" in quite a while! 9 miles! It felt good and I wasn't sore at all the next day.
Then, last night we had time trials with the running group. I have been doing speedwork lately, but didn't really expect to see that great a difference. BUT... I ran a 10:09 mile!!! That's a whole 1:30 off my previous time! I could not believe it! I guess that speedwork is actually paying off. Now to work on being able to maintain that speed for longer than just one mile!
We are going to bike to and from the group run tonight. That should be fun!
Have a great Wednesday Warriors!

michelle that's absolutely amazing!!! 1.30min off ur previous best mile is just staggering, definite advertisement for speedwork. You should post that on main board as inspiration to everyone who secretly (or quite vocally) hates speedwork! If I wasn't on iPhone you'd have a lot of smilies now.
Oh and Kat,b excited that u have a pool-even if it's covered right now!that's very cool.
I'm not doing quite so well.ran 6.2 miles in53 mins which was ok time but it hurt ...a lot.rest wasn't as good as I thought.stupid legs.Seriously thinkin of getting a running coach but it feels a bit footballer's wives style over here!!! Anyone have a personal trainer or similar? Guess it'd cost less than physio in long run!

I'll take some of that heat, if you don't want it! It was 45 here, yesterday! And our "heat wave" this weekend is 72! Brrrr.
Went out for a slow 3 miles yesterday, followed later in the evening by an also slow 4 mile bike ride with the dog. When biking with a dog, you really need to let him set the pace and.... he was in more of a trotting mood than a running one.
Happy Friday, Warriors!

Hey, Good Morning Warriors!!
Kat: Hoping your weather gets better sooner.
Jim: How's the weather up in North FL??I hop you get the change to stretch out the bike soon and the self duathlon sounds interesting.
Marcia: :wave2: hey girlfriend!! Glad to hear you have started your training for you Half, we never know with you!! hehe. I hope your internet situation gets cleared up soon.
Kate: WOW! A career change huh? What brought this on? What would it take for you the change? Keep us up to date on that. Be good to those legs!
Stacey: I see you sneaking in, HI!! I STILL NEED YOUR HUBBIES times!!
Jeff: Loving the pics as usual!! Esp the one of you in the water with the feets sticking up!! Seems like your TRI training is coming along.
MIchelle: Sorry to hear about your bad day at work this week. Did it get any better? Very NICE job with the one miler and a wonderful warrior pace at that!!
Sarah: You can have whatever of my hot weather that you would like. I will gladly give up some of it.
AFM: I did a nice 4 miler this morning. Had a bit of a day yesterday, but was helped out of it and today is a new day!! Weather was great this morning around 80 and a breeze. We are now at the start of the rainy season here in South Florida, so I guess I will have times with my miles will not only be sweaty but soaking at that. Getting my stuff together so I can go get prequalified for a loan so I can start looking for a place of my own again. Seems like Marcia and I will be the new home owners this year!! I am now on Steriods for my ear issue as I never realy got over that part of my cold. The ear drum is/was slightly inverted because of the pressure behind it. Had been that was for a few weeks before I went to see the ENT. He wants me to come back later to have the hearing checked as it can cause some hearing loss. UGH!!
Please have a great weekend my Fellow Warriors. Keep up the great work and get out there and put in your workouts, it will help you to keep SANE!!!

Hi Warriors!
I didn't make it to the Joints in Motion training run this morning, as I woke up at 5:00 with a migraine and staggered up to gulp down 4 Excedrin, before turning off the alarm clock (which was set for 6:30) and going back to sleep. I woke up at 8:30, migraine free, so yay!
We did get our first trip out to the mountains of the summer in today, though, after a great big debacle involving car bike racks (and the one we bought last weekend not fitting my new bike - we should have tested it with both bikes, and not just my fiance's!) and a trip to REI. In the end, we just threw both bikes in the back of the Honda Fit with the seats folded down, and then the 77 lb German Shepherd got to sit on my lap for the whole 45 minute trip. :lmao: And I have the claw marks on my arm to prove it! We had a really nice bike ride up a gradual mountain pass trail (it used to be a railway line) and past a couple waterfalls. I forgot my camera, unfortunately, so not only do I not have pictures of the scenery, but I also do not have my German Shepherd cuddling the gear shift of a moving vehicle documented.
I feel a bit guilty logging all 9 of the miles, because 4.5 of them were spent coasting slowly (to not drag the dog behind me) down the side of the mountain! :lmao:
Tomorrow morning is my 14 mile run to "earn" my new running skirt. My deal with myself was that when I completed my 14 mile training run, I got a running skirt.... well, tomorrow is the scheduled run, but last week was REI's spring sale and I couldn't pass up 20% off... :rotfl: So, I'm allowed to wear the skirt for the run, but I have to be pretty confident that I'm going to get in all the miles. :rotfl: Anyone else play these mind games with themselves for motivation?

Sarah that is the best plan ever rewarding yourself for a long run, hope your 14 miler goes really well.
Tracy How's your ear? So sorry it's been that sore and not cleared at all. Fingers crossed on the hearing too. You take care of yourself and get all excited about house buying. Wahoo. I think all this running inspired me and how different my attittude is towards sports compared to when i was a child and would do anything to get out of PE! It would mean another postgraduate course... my third! We'll see what happens tho, it's all a bit random.
Jeff you look really sad in the water, can't think why you force yourself in there :rotfl:
I'm not long back from a trip to London with my boyfriend. Felt a bit guilty not getting any workouts in, but we really WALKED! Had such a good time and very sad it's over really, always good making memories though.

"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ~Alfred Hitchcock
By now, most of you have figured out I like movies. A lot. Perhaps an unhealthy amount. Nevertheless, I think it's fun to talk about movies, especially now that the summer season has started. Wolverine has been released, so has Star Trek, with many more big blockbusters soon to come.
So this week's mixer topic is, predictably enough, summer movies! The start of the mixer, posted on the 'Ohana thread, is here. (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31868531&postcount=863)
What summer movies are you looking most forward to, and why? Also, how do you like your summer movies?
Feel free to talk about how you choose your flicks: based on directors, your favorite movie star, a beloved genre? And what is your ideal movie experience? Midnight movies or matinees? Chain theaters or independents? Drive-ins? What about the movie-going extras? With or without snacks? Buttered popcorn or chocolate?

Hey Warriors!
Haven't posted in awhile. The end of the school year is wrapping up, and Emma's schedule is making me crazy!
Last week we went on a field trip to the zoo in Jacksonville- it's a really cool zoo. There's a lot of interaction with the animals- buy food and feed sting rays, giraffes, parrots, etc.
Here's Emma (pink shirt) with a friend and a really big guy:
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/hoosmi/Puppyzootrip2009111-1.jpg
Then, we decided to live on the edge and get a puppy!! You know how I'm always chasing a freaked out Emma on her bike if she sees a dog?! We decided maybe some puppy exposure would help her. So we got a yellow lab (and if she doesn't calm down by puppy exposure, at least I know when mine gets bigger it can scare the others away!) I have dreams of running with him, but right now we're working on not eating the leash. :rolleyes1
Here's all 3 of them with Luke, the new guy.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/hoosmi/Puppyzootrip2009014-1.jpg
And here's baby Milo pulling ears while the puppy eats his toes. Yep, they're very similar...
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/hoosmi/Puppyzootrip2009041-1.jpg
And finally, one shot where he stopped moving!
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/hoosmi/Puppyzootrip2009035-1.jpg
As for running, I did 8 miles Friday, 6 Saturday, and 2.75 squeezed in between storms on Sunday.

Jen: Congrats on the new family member! He's so CUTE! Your plan to get Emma over her fear of dogs is a good one, but I do have one piece of advice, based on our own experience with our German Shepherd and our 8 year old cousin, Lindsay, who used to be terrified of big dogs. When you're out with your dog, particularly an excitable, boisterous dog like a Lab, you will be a magnet to all other dogs in the area, many of whom will run up to you, some of them barking and growling. This can be extremely terrifying, even for someone who is used to dogs. So you'll have to be very careful about taking Emma and the dog out together, before she's gotten over her fear, to make sure that Emma's fear of dogs (that are not her own) doesn't get worse. Our cousin loves our German Shepherd (Jack) and will play with him and even wrestle with him (he outweighs her by 20 lbs, but always lets her win), but now runs away whenever she sees any other big dog, because they "want to hurt Jack" so they must be scary.
Anyway, just some un-asked-for advice. But since we've been through the same thing over the last year, thought I'd throw it out there. :goodvibes Enjoy your cutie-pie new puppy!

Sarah Rose- thanks for the tip! I kind of worried about the "dog magnet" factor. Right now Emma is a HUGE dog magnet. She sees a dog and starts screaming, pedalling like crazy on her bike. I then have to take off at full speed while trying to keep the pursuing dog from thinking we are playing the best game ever. The last dog to do this to us?? A chihuahua. Granted, it's a mean little guy and chases me all the time, but you can outrun it in like 20 feet. ;)
Worn the skirt yet? Your logic totally worked for me.
Just did 5 miles at lunch. It's sort of wet and actually cold outside (55 is cold for me).

Jen your new little one is gorgeous! That is a fantastic plan and i think Sarah's advice seems perfect. It's amazing what a knowledgable bunch you warriors are.
Jeff what a great run after all this activity. It just looks so lovely
I went to the gym and did leg weights work, which haven't done for very long time (naughty i know!) and 4miles cross trainer. With some core work when got home made up to 1 hour of activity. :yay:
Sarah_Rose
05-18-2009, 07:12 PM
Jen: I don't doubt that small dogs can be worse than big dogs! I don't want to generalize or offend anyone with a small dog, but I've found that you need more caution around small dogs than big ones! Heck, just yesterday I almost got my ankle torn off while jogging by a dog (on an extendable leash) that weighed less than 10 lbs! It's easy to understand why this difference exists: my 80 lb German Shepherd growls at or chases a child, and I'm going to be dealing with animal control before I can so much as blink. A Chihuahua growls at a child, and a lot of people think it's funny that the little dog is acting tough. Big dog owners simply need to take more responsibility for their dog's behavior, because the dog can cause a lot more damage if something goes wrong. One of the first things we did after adopting our adult Shepherd was "child-proof" him; he can now have his legs, tail, and ears pulled, and will just wag his tail and grin. You simply can't leave any room for chance with a large dog, but that is not the same with a small dog.
Ok, that was an off-topic rant. I guess I just have some left-over bitterness from dealing with Little Fluffy yesterday. Anyway, I think positive interactions with dogs are always good for kids; having a friendly dog to play with and train helps kids to develop their "big kid" voice, which can often stop a strange dog (that is just being a nuisance and wants to play chase with the child) in their tracks.
Kate: Yay for getting the leg weight work in! I'll admit that I'm really bad at getting it done, as well. :)
I did get 13.43 miles in yesterday in 2:35; didn't quite make 14 miles, but I was so close as I got to my overpass to get up to my street, that I decided to cut it a bit short. And I LOVE my new running skirt; I was worried that the built-in compression shorts would ride up, but it wasn't a problem at all. My iPod Touch also fit into the pocket quite well and didn't pull down the skirt at all. I don't normally run with music, because I have the dog, but it was too hot to run 14 miles with him yesterday, so I left him at home. I'm a bit stiff today (but not nearly as stiff as I was the only other time I've run that far, during the WDW half marathon in January) but had no major issues, so I'm happy. Looks like the Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Half Marathon next month will be a breeze, and I'll be able to slide into training for my first full marathon with no problems.
No running for me today, but I do need to get to work on my arms at the gym tonight - the wedding is in less than two months, now, so I need to not be the bride with back fat!

Hey my Warriors!!
It's your fearless leader here. Been a bit preoccupied but I am here. I did a nice 8 miles on Sunday. Not a great thing happened as I was leavin the house that involved a cute little squirel and a car that I just happened to be looking directly at when it happened. I won't go into details but you probably get the picture. Also I guess its summer as I got attacked by a bug of some sort. Around mile 3 a bug landed on my right ear and was buzzing, you can only imagine how tha feels, so of course I reached up and swatted it away. When I looked down at the Garmi it was on my arm then I swatted it and then proceeded to circle me and land in my head. UGH!!! I took off my visor and was swatting and running to get "away" from whatever this thing was. I could just see what a picture this was to the cars passing by. I probably looked like a lunatic! Well, I got it done and that's all that matters right? Rained a good amount here yesterday starting around 3pm until I went to sleep. Hopefully won't be raining too bad after work when I need to get out for a 4 miler.
Kate, Glad to hear you got back to your weights and leg work. Sometimes we just let things go huh when we don't "really" want to do them. But good for you!! My ear is doing a bit better. I just finished my course of steriods so we'll see. I have the hearing test next week.
Jeff, YOU CRAZY!! Can't believe you went out in the middle of the day to do that many miles. You're brave and/or nuts!!
Jen, CUTE doggy!!! I love my dog! Dogs are great companions and teach us so much about life!!!
Sarah, YEAH!! You did your miles and got to wear your skirt, YES!! Keep up the good work.

Hey hey, just a fly by after running club- 6.3miles 56mins with 10 stretch. Managed to hook up with a guy who i made the BIG mistake of telling that I'm a mental health worker... wasn't planning on another session today, but it was nice that he felt comfy to talk to me i guess! :goodvibes

Where is everyone?
Hey WISHer's. Everyone getting in their mile and reps?
I did the usual 8 1/4, 1:14:55. Followed that with a 10.05 bike ride in 50:49. Skipped the swim. :lmao:
Have a great Wednesday everyone.

Hello Warriors! Sorry I've been MIA...just been one of those weeks.
Jen - Your puppy is soooo cute!
I'm still puttin in the miles...did 3.5 last night with the running group. They were tough! We did hill repeats on what was the steepest hill ever! I had to walk a lot, but I completed the workout!
Which leads me to my new motto..."I don't compete, I just complete!":lmao:
The other one I saw online yesterday that I thought was funny was "I am slow because the faster I finish, the longer I have to wait for everyone else."
Have a great Wednesday, Warriors!

Happy Really Frickin' WET Wednesday Warriors!!!
The weather here has been absolutely miserable for the last 3 days. At work yesterday (my station is right across A1A from the beach) we had steady 30 mph winds (gusts to 48) with steady horizontal rain most of the day.
The last 3 days have been a complete washout outside except for today, I managed to sneak in 4 miles in 39:45 between rain bands (BTW, that's (ahem) a sub 9 minute pace (pat on the back right here).
Been trying to stick with a good schedule w/ the P90X, but the real world keeps stickin' it's nose in where it's not wanted. Total of about 5 hours worth since Saturday.
Hopefully I will be able to get a sprint duathlon workout in tomorrow. 5k run/20k bike/5k run. I need to get into the ocean & SWIM, but right now, with the nor'easter storm that would be suicide.
You guys all rock!! Keep it up!

Hi Warriors ~
Just checking in..I've been @ the gym as usual weight class, spin class and running on the treadmill before work. I usually get in an hour or a little more with the stretching.
Jeff ~ YOU CRAZY! LOL Sign me up...I'm in!:rotfl2:
Tracy ~ I hope your ear feels better...if it doesn't already.:lovestruc
Sarah ~ cute addition to the family! I hope your daughter gets over her fear of dogs.:wizard:
Jim B. ~ You still amaze me with your workouts! p90x, run, bike, swim..etc:worship:
Michelle ~ Way to go with your workouts! Speed work, hills & getting your miles in!

:goodvibes Hey hey.
Jim one giant thwack on the back for you! Great work getting under 9 min mile pace and especially fitting it around that weather. Blimey!
Michelle what an awesome motto! Your hill work sounds very tough so big well done to you too.
Marcia that's a heck of a workout before work. I'm very impressed that you can get out of bed early to the hit the gym.
Went to the gym after uni, 2.5miles on TM, same cross training and then weights for 66 mins total workout. We've had a very fun evening discussing my sister's wedding and hen party and her future plans for kids. I just got excessively excited about the trips to the zoo and aquarium we can have.... ok i'm way ahead of myself here!
Happy nearly weekend

Happy Thursday Warriors!!!!!
We have been in the clear for a few hours, but more rain is due tonight & tomorrow.
I managed to get my run/bike/run workout in today. Total of about 18.8 miles.
My DW is up from school for the weekend, so the second 5k was kinda' liesurely, but still a time with the "kid" (she's 20 & in training for EE in the fall).
Tomorrow - work. Maybe a P90X if I can fit it in.
Keep rockin' Warriors!!

Hey there Warriors!
Jim: Well done, getting your workouts in instead of building an ark! Has the weather cleared up, yet?
Kate: There's nothing like putting the pressure on for nieces and nephews early. :rotfl:
I have missed my run the last two days, but I had very good reason: it's HENSON WEEKEND!!!!!!! For the last year, the museum I work at has been getting ready for the Smithsonian exhibition Jim Henson's Fantastic World to arrive, and it opens Saturday and today was finally the staff preview event. I have been working 14 hour days this week, but today I finally got to meet Kermit and Rowlf and the Fraggles and Ernie and Bert and (my favorite) Mahna Mahna and the Snowths. The museum also hired a local puppeteer to build muppets based on Northwest rock icons, so we also have a interactive rock band made up of muppet Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Carrie Akre, and a hilarious Keith Moon/Animal hybrid that guests can operate and rock out with. It's pretty much the coolest thing ever. Anyway, this is not related at all (except the Muppets are owned by Disney, I guess) but I just got home and I'm so pumped about how awesome it all is.
Hope everyone has a fantastic long weekend!

Hey Warriors!
Sounds like everyone is doing well.
Kate-if you don't get a neice or nephew soon, you can always borrow one of my kids. Although I have to warn you, Mr. Harry, the three year old, said "whatever" and mooned me in his Buzz Lightyear underwear yesterday...;)
Sarah Rose- that sounds so cool. I had Kermit sheets when I was young (ok, I was about 12, but I loved them!)
Jim- I'm about ready for the sun to come out!
Jeff- ocean swim?! I was just telling my husband that Hawaii should pay you to be their spokesperson. I've never been, but now I don't just want to visit, I want to move and be your neighbor!!
Tracy- I've been very diligent with my sunscreen. I don't want to have to admit getting too crispy!
I'm going out for a run in just a minute. Our office shut down for lunch- hello, enchilada. Could be trouble. We closed for a sort of wedding shower for an employee- we got her towels and stuff but she really wanted a donkey. Remind me to tell you the story of the donkey sometime...

Sarah- that exhibit sounds so awesome!! My friends would be so jealous- there's an actual puppetteer major at WVU and they are all absolutely obsessed with anything Henson- they would be so excited for that!! And I can't believe I didn't know you work at a museum! (bad teammate, bad! haha) That is amazing!
I've finally been able to get back to an actual schedule and routine of running. It's been great- getting a little hot here (not that I'm complaining), but I just work around the heat.
Everyone continues to amaze me! You all work so hard and do so much- it's such an inspiration!! Enough to get my rear off the couch and pound the pavement!! :goodvibes

Happy Long Weekend everyone,
I kind of slacked off on my workouts this week, but I did start a 6 week 100 push up challenge. Push ups 3 times a week for 6 weeks, the sets increase gradually. By the end of the program you are supposed to be able to do 100 push ups...we'll see. Hopefully I stick with the program.
I got a couple of 3 miles runs in and spin class. Tomorrow I'm out the door early for 7 miles before heading to San Francisco for the Carnival street fair in the Mission District.
Have a great weekend everyone!

My Wonderful Warriors, its your fearless leader...
Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone!!!
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j286/dsnyfan/HappyMemorialDay.gif
What is everyone's plans??? I have a 5K in the Morning on Monday 7am. I did this one last year for the first time, so I am thinking I should be able to better the time. Just thinking if I will racewalk the whole thing or add some joggin in there.
Kate: Remember no free consults, pay by the hour!! I love being an Aunt - it's an awesome thing. You get to be the "fun" relative and take em to all kinds of fun places and then give them back. hehe. Of course don't want to rush anything for your sister. :-)
Jen: How's the new puppy adjusting or should I say you all adjusting to it?? Good job with the sunscreen as no Crispy Warriors walking around out there!!
Michelle: I like those mottos and esp the last one. That is why you all can't get too much faster or you'll be waiting around forever for me!!
Kat: Hey you! Glad you are now able to get a more regular run schedule going. Keep pounding that pavement and putting one foot in front of the other!!
Jim: btw - NICE JOB on the 9min pace - give yourself a great big pat on the back for that! I think trying to beat a thunderstorm in a run also helps you to go faster - this I have found out.
Marcia: Hey girlfriend! How is the home ownership going?? I went for my pre-approval on Thursday. I think its great you can get up and do your workouts before work! Please tell me more about the 100 push up program you are doing - I might do it with you?? maybe...
Sarah: HENSON WEEKEND!! that is just awesome and I LOVE the muppets!! "It's time to start the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to get things started on the Muppet show tonight..."
Jeff: Great job as always on your workouts and for keeping an eye on me over on FB!! The stuff that you sent me made it to its destination!!
AFM: I made up the extra mile on Thursday that I didn't get in on Tuesday because of the deluge of rain and lightening. I had an appointment to get pre-qualified for a loan on that day and was approved with flying colors. Just need the final paperwork and then I can start looking ! YAH!! I put in about .20 of laps in my pool yesterday. I figured that one up and back in my pool is .01 of a mile so 20 laps is about .20 miles.
QUESTION: Who is attending Marathon weekend in January? Who is registered for what? and do you know where you are staying?
I am registered for the Half and will register for the 5K. Most likely staying at Pop from Thursday through Tuesday.
I am thinking we should have a Mini-meet before the regular WISH meet. Keep it on your calendars in Jan that the WISH meet is at the POP food court on the Friday before the Half and starts around 4:30. That way you don't go making ADR around that time.
Keep at it Warriors!!! We are AWESOME!!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Warriors!
Kat: You have friends in a puppeteering major program? I'm so jealous! I've learned so much about puppet-making and puppeteering in the last few months; it's been awesome!
Kate: :rotfl: at the post hang-over swim. Have you discovered a new cure?
Tracy: Good luck in your 5k on Monday, and CONGRATS! on being pre-approved for a home. We are definitely not at that stage in our lives yet; living in one of the most expensive cities in the country (a studio condo in Seattle starts at $300 000 - we can blame Microsoft and the other tech companies for that) will do that to you. :lmao:
Jeff: I'm countering your Pacific pictures in really, truly the only ironic way I can, today.
So, today I had my very first DNF. The weather is in the 70's and has been for a few weekends in a row now, so we figured it was perfect weather to get out to the mountains for a backpacking trip. We dug out all the camping gear, filled the backpacks (including the German Shepherd's dog pack with his own tent and kibble) with the essentials, went grocery shopping for a few backpacking basics, and got up this morning for an early start. The first problem happened when I put on my hiking boots for the first time this year; I injured my big toe several months ago and damaged the nail bed - it's growing out slowly, but it's still painful and swollen, and my hiking boots were pressing down on just the wrong place. So, what was trail appropriate and would provide enough support to carry a 30 lb pack with.... I dug out my Keen Arroyo sandals and put them on, and sure enough my big toe was fine.
We had chosen a hiking trail in the Wenatchee National Forest, about 2 hours away. Our plan was to hike the 9 miles to Pete Lake, set up camp, and then do the extra 5 miles to Specter Lake and back to camp on Sunday, and then hiking the 9 miles back Monday. The Wenatchee National Forest doesn't publish trail conditions, but our hiking guide book said the trail was good from May on, so we decided that it would likely be fine, with the great weather we've been having this month.
As we headed up the little forest road up to where the trailhead is and.... well, I'll let my picture tell the story. Here is where the road (not even the trail, but the ROAD to the trail) ends:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00832.jpg
We stood around, baffled, (while the dog frolicked in the snow gleefully) for awhile, and then finally decided to load up the dog with some water and snacks and hike through the snow to the trailhead, which was about 2 miles ahead.
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00806.jpg
I love this picture! It pretty much sums up my dog's personality.
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00820.jpg
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00821.jpg
My poor sandaled feet in the snow!
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00825.jpg
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00826.jpg
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00827.jpg
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00830.jpg
And here was the trailhead, at the end of our "hike". We met a couple there who had tried to hike the trail, but found themselves in knee-deep snow within the first half-mile, and had turned back.
Ok, so I take a lot of pictures of my dog. But he's pretty! :lmao:
Anyway, we wimped out. We hauled all our camping gear back home and stopped at a Dairy Queen on our way back because it was still 75 out, despite all the (melting) white stuff. Also, the Keen Arroyos held up to the snow quite well - they did let in some, obviously, but it melted quickly and my feet stayed mostly warm and dry. I'm still logging the 4 miles that we walked, though, because it was freaking difficult in the 6 inches to 2 feet of sticky melting snow!!!
Also, we had a surprise waiting for us in the mailbox when we got home:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh128/scrwaugh/DSC00834.jpg
Following some advice from the DIS weddings board, we sent a wedding invitation to Mickey and Minnie, and received this signed photo and "Just Married" button from Disneyland! Too bad Mickey and Minnie won't be able to make it to the wedding, though... :rotfl2:
Anyway, we're going to try the mountains again, tomorrow.... but on the same trail that we KNOW is snow-free from last weekend. :rotfl: Hope everyone else's weekend plans are going better!
Sarah
Edited to add: Oh, and we're going to be there for Marathon Weekend in January! James and I are running the full marathon on Sunday... however, he has very few holiday days and I really want to make the meet on Friday. So, we're looking at me possibly flying in Thursday and him flying on Saturday, and then us both flying back Tuesday. That also means that I'm not encumbered by him Friday when I decide to ride Dinosaur 6 times in a row. Probably staying at POP, as well. We can only afford a value this trip, and POP is definitely not my favorite of the values (I'm so creeped out by the ghost town on the other side of the lake! And that is... pretty much the only reason.), but since the WISH meet is there, there's no point trekking over from one of the All Stars.

Sarah my goodness look at your poor feet! I'm so impressed that you did so much in all that snow and yes your dog is gorgeous and how kind of him to offer to carry all of your stuff. Could he come on a night out with me to look after my lip gloss and purse? :rotfl: Swimming was an awesome cure, the first couple of lengths were a bit odd tho, felt like i had the lungs of a hamster!
Tracy i'm so excited for you! It's a very different system to ours over here, but i can tell that is a massively significant thing getting pre-approval so congratulations. I'm almost certain i'll be heading over in jan for the full marathon, but not booked and have a half convinced travel buddy so don't add me as a definite.
Jeff you could have made that into activity time.... imagine how many star jumps you could have done in 2 hours? Then it would have felt like a double bargain of a price!
Marcia that sounds like one awesome challenge- 6 weeks to do 100 push ups assumes you can do one already right :lmao:You go for it, i know you'll do brilliantly. Hope you enjoyed your 7 miles.
Kat whoop whoop for getting back to your routine and for feeling so great about it.
Jen thanks for the offer! I'm not putting pressure on don't worry! realistically it all depends how much she likes her new job, it could be years away really.
OK, we have had a WHOLE DAY OF SUNSHINE! It was 24oC so 75 for you guys, which is great for us- especially in May. I have also proven how effective p20 sunscreen is as i have a finger sized burn where i missed during application! MAN! Got in 6.11miles in 53mins, was a very thirsty run. I've been lookin at my running plan and it has me down to finish a 10k in 50mins.... i'll never do that, crazy heads :rotfl:
Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend

Marcia: I missed your post about your 100 push-up challenge! :scared1: You go, girl! I do push-ups with my Wii Fit every once in awhile, and I still haven't graduated past the first stage, 4 push-ups. :lmao: So, color me impressed.
Kate: Jack will carry whatever you want, however far you want, wherever you want, as long as he gets to wear his pack. He got so excited when he saw us putting it in the car, that we thought it would be cruel not to let him carry something for awhile..... he absolutely prances when you put the pack on him. It's quite ridiculous. We figure it has to do with the Shepherd nature; they're happiest when they have a job, and he sees wearing the pack as his job while hiking. It also has the added benefit of tiring him out so that he sleeps the entire way home. :lmao:
Was going to get in my scheduled 5 miles this morning, but my left knee is really bothering me from the hike yesterday (I figure it was all the back and forth motion of slipping and sliding in the snow) so I'm putting it off until tomorrow. Still hoping to get to the mountains, today, despite the sleepy dog letting us sleep in until 9:45. :scared1: I haven't done that in YEARS! Now I just need to get off the computer and eat breakfast..... yeah... motivation.

Hi Honeys! I'm home!
I've updated this month's efforts so far in the Google docs. Seems like it felt that I was doing more than that. Beach walking/jogging/wogging/running is GREAT rehab let me tell you. DH did a lot of that with me at his pace and found that he was feeling stronger each time.
I've looked back here a bit and must say I do love the pics posted. We could get into a great habit of that. I've got some pics of our trip posted on FaceBook. I'll add a couple more.
Happy training everyone. Yes, I'm planning on the Pop meet in January. I'll be at BW with the family staying from Thursday until the next Friday is the currunt plan. I'll add time for a Warriors meet.

I slugged out 12 miles in the heat. Water, I need WATER!!! :lmao:
Glad I was hydrated from Saturday, as I didn't get heat exhaustion.
I neglected to mention, at mile 4, we came upon a moped accident scene. A women had hit a wet spot from the rain, and wiped out. No broken bones, but major gash on her chin, and road rash. Another lady stopped her car to block traffic from one direction, as the victim was lying in the intersection. I got out into the intersection to direct traffic until the police, ambulance, and fire engine showed up.
Hopefully she's okay.

Way to go Tracy on your PR! You are a very speedy speed walker, my friend! There is no way I could ever walk that fast. You are just about at my pace and I have to run!
Only two more weeks until my sprint tri. Three more weeks until DH attempts his first 1/2 Ironman! No worries there...I know he'll do great! I am still unsure about my swim, so I am hoping to get in the water later today. I still can't get my breathing down!

In the meantime, please welcome your newest teammate:

Thanks for the introduction Debra!!
Hello everyone!! I am really excited about starting this new journey of running (well, eventually running!!). I walked/jogged the 5k yesterday. We start the c25k program today so on my next 5k in Aug I will run it!! Hopefully will be about 20lbs lighter by then so it should be a much better time than this one. But hey I finished!!
We have been very consistent with getting our walks/runs in everyday. I also have a gowearfit monitor (similiar to the bodybugg) that tells me how many calories burned for the day, how many steps and how much moderate and vigorous activity I do for the day. Yesterday I met all my goals and exceeded most so I was really excited. I walked over 15000 steps. Can't wait to see what that will be once I can actually run more than 30 seconds strait!!
I am looking forward to being on your team:cheer2:

Lily: Welcome home! Sounds like you got in a lot of activity while you were away, and we'd LOVE to see pictures!
Marcia: Thanks for the links! I really should try the 100 push-ups! I have almost exactly 6 weeks until my wedding, and it would be so nice not to have girl arms with my strapless wedding dress! :rotfl:
Michelle: Good luck on your sprint triathlon!
Jennifer: WELCOME! Congrats on your first 5K! I had to look up the GoWear Fit.... looks like a very cool little device! The C25K is a great plan to begin running; I used it about a year and a half ago when I first started running. I remember even running 2 minutes being a big deal when I first started..... I still can barely believe that I went from that to running the WDW half marathon in January without any walk breaks! You can do it!
And as for me, I nearly killed the dog yesterday. :lmao: Took him for a 5 mile run in the morning, and then a 10 mile trail bike ride through a mountain pass later in the day. :lmao: Oh well, a tired dog makes for a happy owner.... as long as you can get past the evil glares!
Taking a day off from cardio today, but will do some upper body strength work later.

Jennifer!! Great to have you on board!!! This is your fearless (sometimes) captain. NOt much captaining needed here. Just glad to have you on boards. Your headed in the right direction by signing up and completing your first 5K!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is great. I imagine by what you have stated that you are also trying to loose some weight? most of us are also trying to do that.
Don't worry about speed. I am a racewalker, so walking to me is just fine. There are many levels of "athletes" on the Warriors, so feel free to just jump right on in and talk about anything you want.
We keep track of miles and minutes. Anything that would require a raised heartrate for a period of time counts. For any race you complete the miles are doubled, but not the time when keeping track.
If you have a journal with any of this information starting with this month let me know. I can give you permission to use the teams' spread sheet to post your own miles and minutes or give me a total at the end of the month. You can still post and talk about your miles and times anytime you wish.
Enjoy your time with the Warriors!!! Keep at it.

Hey team,
I slugged out the usual 8 1/4 miles in about 90 degrees at 5 pm. Jumped in the ocean for 800 meters afterwards. It was dark when I got done, and still 85 degrees. Sheeesh, it's summer!

OK Warriors... the Volunteer Thread is moving along. They have an official group of Wishers for waterstop #2going. You need 10 or more for an official group. I am looking for anyone who would want to volunteer for a water stop duing the full either just after the TTC or at mile #11 backstage behind Splash Mountain. I did #11 last year with 3 other WISHers and we had a great time. You can still sign up to volunteer on your own when it becomes available at any event that you WISH, but an looking for some others to make a group of 10+.
Take care everyone!!

Hey Warrioirs!!!!
Another fun filled rainy Florida day!!
Fortunately it's been more of the "regular" summer rains, just afternoon buildups and thundershowers. The mornings are pretty clear.
Today I got in about 19 1/2 miles on the bike. Another !&!@#*!#^* flat tire, but at least today I my spare & tool kit with me. 10 minutes & back on the road. I was able to manage 18.4 mph pace, which I was really happy with. My FIRST bike goal is to be able to maintain 18 mph, regardless of distance and conditions. After that, 20. Gotta' get (much) quicker on the bike for the Tri's.
This afternoon (after the rain) I put in another 1.5 walking in the woods geocaching with my DW.
Welcome Jennifer!! Glad to have ya'!!!

Sarah - 6 weeks until you're wedding!!! Congratulations:cheer2:
Michelle - where is your spring tri taking place? remember to have someone take pics and post them!:)
I got 4 miles on the treadmill before work today, I'll get in a few more miles in before we take off on Sunday....7 days of fun in the sun, camping and crewing for 1500 bike riders from SF to LA!! I can't wait to be on the other side and helping, not riding! :cool1:
Cheers ~ Marcia...I love those smilies:woohoo:

Hi Warriors! Nothing much to report here. It's been rainy today so didn't get outside other than taking Mom for a half miler. We did it in about 22 minutes! She rocks! It was kind of humid, but she slogged at it.
Jennifer, welcome to our team! Glad to have you.
Tracy, I am not volunteering, rather, I am participating. I do want to say though that everyone out on the course doing whatever they can to support the participants along the way is definitely greatly appreciated!
Sarah, poor Jack. I know he loves going out though.
That's good going everyone. You keep at it.

Hi Warriors! I hope I still have a home here!
It has been a long road these past couple of months. I won't gone into tons of details, but a pulled hammie in March, followed by a pulled hip flexor in April, has left me out of sorts! I had great miles and minutes in February, decreased a bit in March, decreased even more in April, and May has been dismal. In the past month, I have only exercised a handful of times.
The good news is that I am cleared to run and resume ALL activity. I did 3.5 miles yesterday and it felt great!
I will go into the spreadsheet and see if I can resurrect my stats!
I admit that I am terrified I won't be able to "get it back." I am going to try to run every-other day in order to prevent injury. Here's hoping I get back into the swing of things quickly and easily!
I have really missed being here regularly.

Sarah - We killed our dog too last night! We were out for 3 miles and around mile two he just stopped and laid down! I felt so bad for him. We practically had to drag him home! He's kind of like a runner in a race though...he so excited to be there and be going out that he kills himself right out of the gate and can't keep going for very long!
Jennifer - Welcome to the Warriors! This is an awesome and very supportive group. So happy for you with your new goal. You can do it!:thumbsup2
Jim - Nice ride! I wish I could get faster on the bike. I think part of my problem is my bike (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!) I don't have a road bike, it's a crossover. It always seems like I am working so much harder than the people I ride with to go the same speed!
Marcia - My tri is on June 6...one week from Saturday! I will take pictures! Have a great time next week!
Jeff - Ok...it's been way too hot here. You need to take this weather back to the islands!
AFM: Went to the gym last night and did half a mile in the pool. I actually felt a little more comfortable! We then came home and did a 3 mile run around the neighborhood. But it was so hot, and I was tired from the swim...it wasn't a pretty run! Hoping to get in a few miles tonight, but not sure. I have to pack as we are headed to Tahoe for the weekend tomorrow! But I will be taking the running shoes with me. Hoping to go for a nice hike too!

Hey Warriors! I have been MIA way too much. I have been keeping up with the spreadsheet, just not posting. I need to. I am signing up for a 5k on June 12th and another a Midnight 5k on july 3rd. I hope to do one a month to keep me on track!

Hi Warriors!
My story is similiar to Amy's - keeping track and updating sheet, just not posting. :( I actually am very happy this month (and it's not over yet) with my totals. I've been taking classes at the gym, and getting in lots of over due yard work, so my times are kewl - now to work on the miles....
I'm gonna try and catch up - at the very least try to stay updated going forward.
keep up the good training!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I have a feeling I am going to be inspired from what I have read so far:goodvibes . Today we did day 2 of c25k at 3pm - not very smart. I work 3 12 hr shifts at night so that was the only time we had to go. Summer has arrived in Alabama!! I really need a treadmill for the summer!!
Tracy - I do have records of my time that I exercised for most of the month of May, I can probably figure out how many miles. My husband walks with a pedometer that tells the miles so I think I can do it. I will be able to update everything this weekend since I work tonite and tomorrow nite.
Also we would like to volunteer for the marathon. Our plan is to come down on Thursday and do the 5k if we are not able to get into the 1/2. I found a travel agent called Marathon tours that had a guaranteed entry if you booked a hotel with them. Does anyone know anything about them?
Thanks

Hi Team!
I biked a slow and easy 11 miles today; 40 minutes. Plus some stretching, so 45 minutes total for the day.
I am trying really hard not to push too hard too soon and re-injure myself.
My next event is a Tri in August, though I may throw a 5k or 2 in there.

Just stopped in to say hi. I talked to Tracy in PM awhile back and told her a bit about my stressful life lately. My Mom passed away a month and a half ago and things have been crazy since. I haven't been working out much. :confused3 My bff told me she is not letting me give up the 13k. So, when I get back from my trips, I will find the motivation to train. Jeff and I used them last year for entry to the Goofy, 3 night minimum at one of the hotels, but they give you a little discount on the registration. You should compare them to Anthony travel also, those were the 2 companies that most people on another running board used.
Marci - Sorry to hear of your loss, hang in there.

Jennifer WELCOME to the strongest team in town he he he. You sound brilliantly motivated and like you've already been gobbled up by the exercise bug. Really pleased to have you on our team.
Jeff awesome workouts again
Michelle not pretty runs are the best as they are the ones that require the biggest effort and the deepest digging of motivation so WELL DONE!
Erika that sounds like the most frustrating (and familiar) past few months possible. I'm being treated for hamstring strain too, but am trying very hard not to neglect IT Band stretches or that one comes back and bites me. Really pleased to see you're taking it easy, brilliant ride.
Amy so lovely to see you! glad you're keeping it up even if busy life is restricting your posting it's awesome to know how you're getting on and same goes for you Jen
Lily i love that you take your mom out!
I've had a hectic few days exercise wise. A colleague and I tried spinning for the first time on wednesday. So a mean lady shouting orders while we peddled crazily was surprisingly fun.... but the saddle was NOT. enough said :headache:
Did running club sprints on tuesday around a local race course- i now have a lot of sympathy for horses, not a nice surface when it's all churned up!
Today- physio this morning on hamstring means more advice not to exceed 6 miles and to knock it down if possible, grr. Then 5 mile run this evening in excessive heat for me. It was 23oC and felt like i was running into a hairdryer with the warmest wind ever. Very odd but tough workout. sigh. I'm off for an early night now in preparation for a hen night tomorrow  i can count dancing time right? :rotfl:

QUESTION: Who is attending Marathon weekend in January? Who is registered for what? and do you know where you are staying?
I am registered for the Half and will register for the 5K. Most likely staying at Pop from Thursday through Tuesday.
I am thinking we should have a Mini-meet before the regular WISH meet. Keep it on your calendars in Jan that the WISH meet is at the POP food court on the Friday before the Half and starts around 4:30. That way you don't go making ADR around that time.
Tracy
Registered for Goofy this year. Dopey, not likely (the 5K costs more than my Honolulu Marathon!).
We arrive the day after Christmas, for a one week stay at Old Key West. Then we leave the world for the Disney Wonder for a 4 night sail. Get back to the world on EXPO opening day, and will be at OKW for 2 nights. Then switch over to POP Century for the remainder of race week, and depart on Wednesday.
I'm up for lounging around the POP Century pool on Friday, and Saturday after the half. Weather permitting of course.
We'll need to do a Walt's Warrior's photo, like some of the other WISH teams were doing this past January.

Hi Tracy - I'll be at all the WISH meets along with Jeff & my mom, she's running the 1/2 this year (because of the t-shirt..LOL)...we're staying at the POP and you probably know our schedule...LOL
...and yes, I am voluntering this year for the ride. I rode last year 545 miles in 7 days from San Francisco to Los Angeles in California. So, I am paying it foward and volunteering this year. I leave on Sunday and I will not be back until the following Sunday...so I'm guessing I can put in at least 5 hours of work/on my feet/lifting heavy stuff on the books for the next few days.
Have a great week everyone!

Marci, hugs to you. I'm sorry for your loss.
Marcia, I know you will be working hard volunteering for the event you participated in last year. Hope you enjoy.
I had a tragedy with my Garmin today. I had it all charged and everything and went to turn it on and the darn thing would not work. I have no idea. It's been kind of acting a bit sassy about holding a charge, but I figured that was more operator error. I have no idea what was up with my toy. I am so lost without it. I was out empty today. Came home after tonight's movie with my DS (saw Star Trek, liked it too!) and DH left me a note that it turned on for him. He tried to turn it on a couple of times before I left with no success. So what is up with this. I definitely cannot be without my Garmin. Ugh.

Happy Saturday Warriors!!!
A nice Florida day here........
I went out on my bike this morning, but suffered mechanical issues, sp I had to limp home with a total of 4 miles in 20 minutes.
Repaired the problem, crossed my fingers, said a prayer to the "No Rain & No Flats" God & hit the road.
Managed to complete 26.16 miles in 1:28. I was planning on running today too, but the lost time most likely has made that unlikely.
I have to work tomorrow & go to my DS' college orientation on M/T, then work on Wednesday, so the week may be a bust. We'll have to see what I can fit in .

Jim: Sorry to hear about the bike troubles! Hope the bike gods send a little fortune your way in the future!
Kat: GOOD LUCK on your character audition! That is so exciting and I hope it works out for you!
Tracy: Do I even want to know what a pinky pistol is? :rotfl:
Lily: ACK! I've only had my Garmin for a couple of months now, but already I don't know what I'd do without it! I hope it's just taking a "breather" and decides to start working again; but I agree with Jeff, give Garmin a call. The worst that can happen is they say it is beyond their control, but there is a chance that an easy fix or a replacement could magically appear!
Kate: I had to look up EA Active, and it may have to be on my "wish list" come payday... which is.... Monday! Hooray! :lmao: I read some comments about the resistance band not being fantastic; how are you finding it?
Marcia: Have a great time volunteering on the ride! 545 miles? WOW! I'm so impressed that you did it last year! Enjoy your trip! Oh, and I've now joined you on the 100 push-up challenge. Only, girl push-ups. :woohoo:
Marci: I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope things begin to look up soon, and when they do, we'll still be here.
As for me, the Jackster and I had our group run with the Joints in Motion Training Team this morning, in beautiful West Seattle. It was one of the shorter timed runs, 75 minutes, and I did 6.38 miles in that time. It's quite warm today (for Seattle, at least, I know it doesn't compare to Florida or Hawaii!) so we were a bit slower than usual. Oh well, it was a beautiful run along the beach in the sunshine, so I can't really complain!
And tomorrow is the Great Kilted Run 5K - I have to say that any 5K where the beer gardens open at 9:00 am and kilts are available for rent for $5 is A-OK with me. :thumbsup2 I'll be sure to take pictures. :rotfl:

Kat best of luck for the auditions. You make sure you let us know EVERYTHING about it! I'll be thinking massive positive thoughts for you.
Sarah have to admit i've only been on it twice and so far agree resistance band's not great- way too long. Even so got sore arms next day so it must've been a bit of a work out. The worse thing is the handles on the band are quite rough, wouldn't like to do many reps with them. Sorry can't offer more definite advice for you.
Marcia you are awesome!!!! So proud to have you as a warrior.
Jim don't be disheartened, you did a brilliant ride and will fit in what you can.
Tracy i'm sorry but have no idea on word play for june! Well done on 3.4miles.
Jeff after a ride like that i wouldn't be able to bend to bowl anything :rotfl:
I went to a hen night last night so hit the gym a little bit of a wobbly warrior! Did 4.2miles on TM and cross trainer, then weights totalling 1hr. Also went for a stroll with mum this evening but it wasn't at pace so guess that won't count. It has been BEAutiful here, will be sad to get out proper weather back

KAT - Hey girl good luck with the audition!!! I will be thinking good thoughts for you that you make it. I have a friend who works at HS as a stage manager and LOVES it!!
Marcia - Take care of yourself during this week of the AIDS biking event. Keep us up to date and let us know how it goes.
Sarah - Pinky pistols and elbow bombs, haven't heard of these huh?? This is when the sweat rolls off your arms, when its not so much it just drips off of you elbows but when it really starts to buildup and then rolls down and fly off the end of your pinky fingers it then becomes pinky pistols. Have to be careful of the pinky pistols as you never know where it will land and you could get it in your eyes!:lmao::rotfl2:

Beyond the basics, what's your favorite/most-useful/most loved gear?
Of course, feel free to talk about your favorite shoes, socks, tech shirts or sports bras or other necessities. But I think we'd all like to know about that special something(s) that you've added to your "must have" for training, racing days, or just plain pleasure. For some of you, maybe it's your Garmin. Other, a special brand of sunscreen or a specific brand of water belt? Still others, a strategy for taping your legs and feet or a a favorite tracking website?
