So when we last left our heroes, they were winging through the skies on Northwest Airlines from steamy July Florida back to not so steamy July Wisconsin. A delicious lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express had been their sendoff and the only remains of 10 days of Disney Dining was a few WPE chocolate chip cookies and a couple assorted items from Goofy's Candy Co.

Once these were gone, there was nothing more to do than start planning a trip and some ADR's for the next vacation: ten months in the future..

...and the future is TODAY!!! :dance3:

I'm sitting here with my beloved cats (I will miss them...:sad1:) surrounded by suitcases, waiting for 2:15 to come to go pick DS up from school. I've been pondering a live (ish) dining report for a while now and decided I had so much fun with the last one, why not? I also LOVE live dining reports and lurk shamelessly on any one I can find. So I'll do my best to do another one.

Shall we start with the "who are we"?

DS7 - our little WDW veteran. He loves his vacations and takes his planning veerrryy seriously. His can't miss of the trip is Le Cellier. He loves the pretzel bread and scarfs up most of it. He also love Mickey ice cream sandwiches, fresh fruit, macaroni and cheese and (gasp!!) has started trying new things. He is determined to try lots of new things on this trip and DH and I are hopeful......

DH - steak and potatoes. Caesar salad. Soda with sugar. More steak. Loves the Mickey bars and sandwiches and isn't really into anything that is, in my opinion, interesting. His can't miss is Yachtsman Steakhouse, although I'm working on that. We have a reservation at Shula's and if that works out I am convinced YSH is extraneous. He disagrees. Men.

Me - a picky eater, but I love interesting and ethnic foods. I love Boma and Jiko and I also love the mac and cheese and steak my boys enjoy. I am the only one of us who like coffee, but fortunately I am not addicted (since WDW is...uh...lacking there). Coke Zero is my addiction and I'll make due with diet coke. My can't miss is Spoodles. And...well...I don't want to talk about the fact that this next dinner will be my last here. :sad2: I'm sure Koussina (sp?) will be excellent. Yeah. :sad2:

So why is this only maybe live? Well, we'll be using our DVC points tonight (tonight!!!) but then tomorrow we head over to our RCI villa (GASP!) offsite. And I don't know if they have free internet access or how many nights we'll spring for it. Depends how much withdrawal we have from email and such. We'll be there for 4 nights and then we're checking out early to head over to Kidani Village for the remainder of our stay (free high speed internet!). DH and DS are very excited to be among the first guests there and I agree it looks beautiful. I am trying hard not to miss my Beach Club Villas. I know it won't matter once we're there - I'll love it just as much...!

So where are we eating?

In no particular order:

Boma - breakfast
Boma - dinner
Spoodles - breakfast
Spoodles - dinner
Shulas Steakhouse (new for us!)
Kona - lunch (new for us!)
Cape May Cafe - dinner
Teppan Edo (new for us!)
Le Cellier dinner
Chefs de France - lunch (new for us!)
Tutto Italia
YSH...?
Flame Tree BBQ
Earl of Sandwich
WPE
Kona - breakfast
Sanaa - dinner - definitely new for us!

and a few others along the way! We may be venturing offsite as well, so I can post those too for those who don't spend all their time on WDW property and are interested in the photos (incidentally, that is usually us...this is going to be a new adventure...which may include an afternoon at Gatorland....:scared1:)

So after a late afternoon, evening, night and and into the wee hours of tomorrow traveling...on with the show!

Well...good news and bad news for food porn. The good news? We're here and my cameras are ready to go! The bad? We ate at McDonalds last night at the airport so not much to show today while soaking up the atmosphere at OKW. We're leaving soon to check in to the RCI resort, but I am using up the last few minutes (okay, so I have until 11, but the boys are restless!) of free internet here to post.

Because I have nothing but a few silly shots of McDonalds, I'll post a few WPE shots from a month ago at the Mall of America (same menu though so it counts, right?

The divine chocolate chip cookie - SO much softer and fresher than they look (packaging always makes me think stale):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMayOlymI101.jpg

A Mountain Dew (guessing they don't have this Pepsi product down here at WPE?)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMayOlymI102.jpg

A sandwich that has chicken, aioli - very good:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMayOlymI109.jpg

DH's rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes (his favorite!)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMayOlymI110.jpg

And finally, to begin our trip, we enjoyed a delicious dinner of a chicken McNugget Happy Meal (with apples), a two cheeseburger meal and quarter pounder with cheese meal.

Here is the quarter pounder. DH is opening and shutting the box, pretending it's talking to the camera. Weirdo!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMayOlymI150.jpg

Other assorted "No! I'm not taking photos of my McDonalds food in an airport!" shots:

Wishing you all a great day!

This morning DS had snacks I packed from the plane and DH and I drank exploding bottles of soda (half frozen from the fridge...had a few volcanoes...!). We drove over to our new resort to check in. Following this we drove over to DTD where we wanted to turn in our AP vouchers for tickets and get some lunch at Earl of Sandwich. I was really surprised how empty DTD seemed to be:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109097.jpg

DS wasn't sure what he wanted, so he opted for the kid's grilled cheese. It was very simple, but very good. He really enjoyed it and DH and I both thought it would be delicious dipped in marinara or pizza sauce.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109131.jpg

As is out tradition, DH and I shared a Cobb salad. This is a LOT smaller than it used to be, but still just as good. Large cubes of cheddar and swiss cheese, chicken, dried cranberries, tomatoes, cucumbers and ranch dressing.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109136.jpg

I had the Earl's Original - roast beef, cheddar and horseradish. I wish it would have had more horseradish - but the lack made it so DS would try it. This is my favorite sandwich here and I enjoyed it, but was full after half when you take into consideration the salad...;)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109133.jpg

DH had the ham and cheese with Earl's mustard. We'd never tried this and both really liked it a lot.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109137.jpg

For drinks, we went with diet coke for me and cranberry-raspberry juice for DH and DS.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109129.jpg

All in all, it was a very good lunch although not as "must have" as it has been in the past. We got there around 11:30 and had our choice of tables outside and a few inside (where we sat). By the time we were done (noonish) the line was as long and crazy as usual.

We spent about 4 hours at DHS (DS had his first ride on Rockin Roller Coaster - just hit those magic 48 inches! He loved it) and had a few snacks along the way. Wow. It is a lot easier to get those when you're on the DDP, isn't it? Looking forward to that on Tuesday!

Anyway, after RNRC, we decided to watch Beauty and the Beast so I picked up a frozen lemonade to share and an apple for DS:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109170.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109171.jpg

Following BATB, we went over and rode TSM (love this!!) and then went through One Man's Dream. It was getting time to head back to the room (finally ready) and we decided to have a drink and a snack. We went to Min and Bill's and got a large light lemonade (our compromise drink - diet for me, lemonade for them) and a spicy cheese pretzel.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109247.jpg

Love the new cups!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109248.jpg

We did like this - although I wouldn't buy one again. Snack credit? Sure! Might try the apple one later this week.

We really had a great day and after unpacking and relaxing in the rooms here, we decided to try Joe's Crab Shack for dinner. I'll be uploading the photos tomorrow and will post, even though they are from off property. IN short though, we really had a great time. We sat outside where it was pleasant and slightly breezy and watched DS play on the playground/structures there. Dinner was also really good and VERY reasonable for what we got. I'll update tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great evening!!

For a long time, DH has seen the commercials for this restaurant and has wanted to go. We don't have one anywhere near us, so I was up for it. We looked online and saw the menu, but no prices. We debated back and forth between Joe's and Fultons and never really decided. So last night we decided to drive to the Crossroads and pick something that sounded good.

We decided on Romano's Macaroni Grill, but saw Joe's next door and drove on in. Here is a definite change for us from WDW property dining. We didn't have to make an ADR anywhere...just drove and picked someplace and walked in. They had a nice little kid's play area and it was a pleasant night so we requested and received a table outside next to it:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109278.jpg

Our lovely table decor (can you feel the casual atmosphere?? It was GREAT!)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109277.jpg

The kid's menu:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109276-2.jpg

DS is up for trying new things and this was a crab place so of course he opted for cheese pizza and corn...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109283.jpg

This must have been good, because in the 4 minutes he came back from the play area to eat, the whole thing disappeared....

I opted for the "surf and turf" burger. This was a hamburger topped with onion straws, fried shrimp and remoulade. I could choose between more onion straws or fries. For some reason, I opted for the straws. I also asked for my shrimp on the side in case I didn't like the combination. This was no problem.

The burger:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109286.jpg

And the shrimp:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109285-1.jpg

Can you believe how much shrimp there is there? That was all supposed to be on my burger!?!?!?!? Our server brought me some cocktail sauce and it never made it on the sandwich...this was really, really good and made for a delicious entree in and of itself. The onion straws and remoulade were really tasty too and I enjoyed half my sandwich. I was too stuffed to finish:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109290.jpg

DH ordered (what else?) crab! He got the steamer pot that came with Alaskan King, Snow, and Dungeness. It also had corn and new potatoes. He ordered it with the Old Bay Seasoning.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/NikonWDW430-5109287.jpg

This was HUGE!!! He graciously shared some with me and I liked the snow and loved the king. The king was a bit salty, which was perfect. There was so very much in this dinner that DH also left almost an entire half dungeness crab. The corn did not mesh well with the old bay, but the crab? Divine!

We had a great time here and would definitely go back. The entire bill with tax and tip was about $48. Very, very worth it!

We got up today and had breakfast on the balcony. I love having a kitchen, although we are all excited to move to Kidani and back on the DDP and WDW property soon - no one more than our newly discovered Disney Snob, DS. We had no idea how much he loved WDW property until this trip. He is having fun, but he is super excited to get back.

We opted for the Magic Kingdom today and enjoyed a few attractions in Tomorrowland before remembering we had an ADR for lunch at the Plaza. We've never been there and looked forward to trying it out. We weren't hungry yet, but decided to still go and split something.

So here we were!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I671.jpg

Loved the napkins!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I683.jpg

DS surprised us with bypassing the PB&J, Mickey turkey sandwich and grilled cheese and opting for the grilled chicken strips, fries and apples. He started with the salad with ranch dressing, which he didn't like. He loves lettuce, plain. And ranch dressing as a dip. But together? Nope. It was very fresh and wonderful though - DH and I happily shared it.

The salad:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I689.jpg

The chicken:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I697.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I698.jpg

He really enjoyed this. We tried the chicken and BBQ sauce, and it was very good.

DH and I decided to share the cheesesteak with housemade chips. We did request no fungus . I was expecting it to be a nice sandwich, but I was very surprised how good it was. We both liked it a lot.
They split it on two plates for us. Here's my half:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I701.jpg

DS decided to go with the Mickeylodeon for dessert - vanilla ice cream. This was absolutely adorable and I fell in love with the sprinkles!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I703.jpg

DH and I shared his favorite - the banana split. With sprinkles - woo hoo!!! This was really excellent:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I706.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209I707-1.jpg

We really liked the atmosphere and food here. It didn't make our must do list, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

slk537
05-03-2009, 12:24 AM
And finally, tonight's dinner. We decided to head back and get pasta tonight at Macaroni Grill. We do have these up north, but the closest one to our home is about an hour. We had been here a few years ago and it was just as good as we remembered.

DS had the macaroni and cheese, which was actually large shells and cheese. I tried it and it was truly very good.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209II290.jpg

DH ordered a chef's selection which came with a salad, choice of entree and dessert. He ordered the caesar to start. I also had this added to my meal. We both loved our salads:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209II286.jpg

While we had our salads, they brought out DS's mac and cheese. This was great, because he had time to have it cool down and then he could putter around while he ate. He had wanted Cape May Cafe tonight (next week!! :goodvibes) and was very happy to see he could draw on this paper table "cloth" too.

DH's entree was the spaghetti and meatballs. It was SO good! He gave DS and I one of the large meatballs to share. It was just absolutely incredible!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209II295.jpg

I ordered the "choose your own" pasta. I picked penne in a garlic cream sauce. I added on parmesan crusted chicken and then roasted garlic, artichoke hearts and carmelized onions. Oh. My. Gosh. This was absolutely divine!!!!!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209II296.jpg

DH and I both left about half and brought it back for a snack later, which I am looking forward to. We shared his dessert - a chocolate cake that was very dry with a wonderful dark chocolate sauce.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5209II299.jpg

I would have been disappointed if we had ordered this separately, but it came with DH's meal and really didn't add much to the price. For that, it was good.

We were very happy with this dinner and would definitely go here again!

Oh! Two weeks!!! Our last two weeks flew - I was really surprised at just how fast. If you have ANY questions about the places we're going, just ask. I'd be happy to check out things on the menu, etc.

It really is going fast! The kids are SO excited! Tonight, DS2 was jumping up and down all over the place yelling "Disney".

I just have to say, Joe's Crab Shack looked yummy!!! I keep seeing the commercials too, but there aren't any around here.

I would love to take you up on your offer! When I printed out the kid's menu for Teppan Edo it said that there were 2 options for desert, but I've read other reviews that said the kids were only given a peaches fruit cup like you would get for their lunches at the grocery store. Wondering if they changed the menu?

Thanks!!!

Sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun....and, it also sounds relaxing!! Not all disney vacations are relaxing (go go go!) but yours sounds like a nice healthy balance! Thanks for the pic's and reviews, I am onboard with this one anxiously awaiting your "picks-of-the-day!"

Can I ask you an off-topic question? What RCI resort are you staying at? We too are RCI exchangers and have tried Orangelake (x 2) and The Hilton @ Seaworld (I think - the older of the two??) and I like to hear what others think of RCI resorts! (I know it is off topic, nothing extensive...)

TIA! Keep chill-axing (mmmm, mohito's!) and having fun!

I would be happy to check on the desserts at Teppan Edo - DS isn't a big dessert eater (is he really my child??) so he'll probably like the peaches, but if they have ice cream or something he'll be much happier.

Tell your kids that yesterday in Epcot we could practically walk on everything - Soarin' was only a 45 minutes wait between 1-3 and Mission Space was 5 minutes for both sides. The park was just not packed at all!

Also - check out the Kim Possible activity (can't miss it - they are everywhere). DS love love loved it!

love your reviews so far, the crab shack sounds lovely :thumbsup2

It was laid back, casual, delicious and a lot of fun! And thank you!!

Thanks! We are SO not commando when we're here. We like to take it easy, since we know we'll be back. We were at Epcot for almost 6 hours yesterday and that is not like us...we're more 4 hours on, swimming break, 4 more hours on.

We're at The Fountains - Bluegreen. The room is really beautiful - elegant decorations, not Florida seafoam and peach like I expected. There is a HUGE pool with huge slides and another very large indoor/outdoor pool that we have enjoyed. We are checking out early to head back to property tomorrow morning, but we have really enjoyed this location. It is across from the Sheraton Vistana Villages and not far from WDW. We own at Vistana, but had a scheduling issue so ended up here. We'd definitely come back!

I have tons of photos I may try to post when I'm on a higher internet speed for uploading photos.

Can't wait to see & hear more.:thumbsup2

Thanks! More on the way now and tons of WDW photos tomorrow!

How funny, that is my favorite make your own pasta combo from MG...lol...and here I thought I was being somewhat original. Loving the reviews! Those chips from the Plaza look so good.

We got up yesterday and had pancakes and scrambled eggs, yogurt, and bananas in the room. Now lest you think I am a chef on vacation, rest assured that the pancakes were the "pour water in a jug, shake and cook" type. Still good though :thumbsup2 We have break and bake cookies to make tonight to bring with us to Kidani. I don't know what it is about vacation and a full kitchen, but I love doing the fresh cookie thing. BUt yeah, definitely break and bake, not scratch!

Yesterday we spent the bulk of the day at Epcot - my favorite! DS enjoyed fully the Kim Possible missions (which were REALLY cool and a lot of fun) and afterwards we found ourselves in Norway. Having run around to the back of Kringla a few times while saving the world, you have to know where our snacks came from....

Kringla Bakeri Og Cafe:

Large lemonade:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I436.jpg

DH and I shared a school bread - still just as delicious as I remembered, but half the size. I remember them being the size of the plate:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I437.jpg

DS opted for the chocolate chip viking cookie - he really liked this and ate the whole thing:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I433-Copy.jpg

We enjoyed our treats and then pressed on to do the Universe of Energy for the first time. On the way there, we decided to stop for another treat for the boys - their favorite:

For a very late lunch/early dinner we decided to head off site for some barbecue...we had seen Smoky Bones when heading to Super Target and DH decided we should try it. We were seated immediately among about 45 empty tables and 5 filled ones. There were at least 5 servers milling around. Not one came to see us. One came to the table two away from us and got their drink order about 4 minutes after we had sat down and then walked away. We sat for another 5 minutes for a total ignore time of 10-15 minutes (maybe?). When DH decided to go get someone, I decided it was time to leave. It was a long time to be ignored and I figured the service was not going to be stellar if they ever showed up. So we decided to go to Steak and Shake.

I am not proud of the nutritional wasteland I am about to present, and a little embarassed, but I promised myself I'd do food photos of everything, so here goes:

Our appetizer - regular sized chili cheese fries: shoestring type fries topped with all bean chili and a quart of "cheez" sauce.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I484.jpg

I am ashamed to say these were really, really good! At first I thought "meh...nothing to write home about" but then I decided they were really good as I ate more. Now I look at them and think "gick!" but I remember they really were pretty awesome junk food.

DS was more interested in the large mustang he was able to build out of a cardboard model (with stickers to decorate) so he didn't care about lunch. He decided on Kraft M&C and fries:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I487.jpg

We didn't know it at the time, but on weekends kids eat free, so we didn't pay for this. He did enjoy it once we pried the toy out of his hands.

DH and I both ordered the double steakburger with cheese and fries:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I486.jpg

These were drippy with sauce (and probably grease, but I choose not to think about that) and were not huge, although they look big in the photos. They were really, really good!

DS and I both ordered vanilla milkshakes to drink:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I488.jpg

And DH opted for chocolate:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I490.jpg

All were very good.

This was a fun and quirky place and we did enjoy our lunch/dinner (it was 4:00). The total without tax and tip was $22 and we couldn't believe what we got for that.

After we ate, we decided to stop and pick out some treats at Goodings bakery...back in 2004, we got DS an adorable alligator cookie sandwich here and DH wanted to see if they had anything like it again. They did indeed so we bought an alligator cookie for DS and a key lime pie for us to share.

And while we were waiting for help, I took photos. In a grocery store! And immediately got the giggles.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDWMay5309I494.jpg

You can see the key lime pies in this shot:

I'll post photos of the cookie and pie when I upload the photos on my camera today.

DS had his cookie last night and loved it.

We went to the pool last night and puttered for quite some time. We then came back to the room and actually had snacks and leftover pasta for dinner. It was an extremely relaxing night and we enjoyed it!

Today is venturing away from WDW for a trip to Gatorland. And then we may head back to the parks tonight. Everyone - have a great day!!

Sorry I missed your question earlier today - that is the Crossroads. We like it because it's so close to property and to our RCI resort. If you're going to Joe's or MG keep going a bit further down the road from Crossroads...maybe a block or two?

Offsite is definitely good for your wallet, but we're ready for WDW dining!

Isn't it awful!!! I couldn't stop laughing when I made the decision to bring the camera in the store...it was premeditated photography....! :rotfl: And to make it even worse, I have a new camera. It's not a cute little point and shoot, it's a big honkin DSLR that is hanging on a strap around my neck...NOT subtle. DH and DS thought it was hilarious and I kept reminding myself "not at home...this is not at home...no one knows you here....." :lmao:

Also - I read your response to DH and he actually said "Earl of Sandwich has roast beef smoothies???" I had to explain the marquee sign to him. Obviously he doesn't live on the DIS like I do ;)

DS's Gator cookie - he loved this. The frosting tasted like chocolate whipped crisco to me...:confused3 But it was cute:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I002.jpg

Key Lime Pie - the filling was wonderful! Very tart. The whipped cream was more whipped frosting like and the crust was so so, but I'm glad we got this. DH and I shared it on a break this afternoon.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I177.jpg

Neither was worth the price, but both were nice treats! I am definitely looking forward to snacks on the DDP though...

A few words about this little side trip...if you or your loved ones are interested in large reptiles (like mine...DH used to have a pet caimen when he was a kid in a brief time when they were legal...:confused3) you and they will love it. They have some very entertaining and well done shows, they have white (not albino - they have bright blue eyes!) alligators and ladies...um...listen up here...

(the male employees in all the shows are verrrrrrryyy easy on the eyes.....;) )

So anyway, before we left for lunch, I snapped a photo of the snack bar menu:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I142.jpg

We didn't actually get anything, but I took the photo anyway ;)

Another note - this place takes every discount known so make sure you ask. The person who took our money asked about a bunch and when I said "oh...I don't have my AAA card," she put the discount on anyway. Saved the entire cost of DS's ticket.

SO we were already off property and a ways out so I decided to pick an old favorite for DH for lunch. I plugged it into Garmina (our GPS) and asked her to get us there. I then told DH that we should just follow her and "be spontaneous...!"

We followed her for a while and DH then guessed where he thought we were going: Margaritaville at Universal City Walk. Dang. That was NOT what I picked but I should have...YUM!

Instead, we pulled up to Bubbalou's Bodacious Barbecue (I am not making this name up!). We found this years ago after seeing it on a BBQ show on the Food Network and really enjoyed it. It isn't an every trip thing, but we have been a few times. DH LOVES bbq - we have a smoker at home and he really does a great job with it. So we take in BBQ restaurants whenever we can.

Here is a shot of the restaurant from their outdoor seating:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I162.jpg

Very casual, picnic table seating. We enjoy it!

We ordered a whole bunch of food to share. But we started with some HUGE drinks:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I164.jpg

Mountain Dew for the big boy, root beer for the small and water for me.

We also got a huge pickle because...well, they're good!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I163.jpg

We got a side of corn - this was SO good!! Very simple, buttery, salty and perfect (we added butter and salt)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I174.jpg

Here is the pulled pork and fries meal:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I171.jpg

This was excellent - they have a new mustard barbecue sauce that was perfect with this. I even liked the baked beans and I usually don't. Of course, maybe I'm growing up...?

Here is the two meat combo we also got - brisket and ribs served with buttered toast and beans:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I173.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409I175.jpg

The brisket was too thinly sliced for us - we liked it, but we prefer DH's which has a great highly seasoned rub bark and is sliced in thicker slices. The ribs were really good. The fries in both meals were hot and crispy on the outside and good on the inside.

Overall - an excellent barbecue meal and very filling! We got everything, including the drinks for around $30.

This restaurant is completely new for us. We've barely even heard of them and saw a billboard and became intrigued. We decided tonight after a rousing game of mini golf at Fantasia Gardens that we would have our last offsite meal there. (We tried to go to the Fountain at the Swolphin, but it was $10-13 for parking and that seemed rich for dinner parking...we may try it another day when we can boat up in a Friendship).

For those of you who have never been to Sweet Tomatoes - here goes: You walk in and are greeted. You then grab a tray and a plate and immediately select salads all the way down. You then pay and are seated. You get your own drinks and can then choose from hot menu items, soups and desserts. The Lake Buena Vista location is new and is (where else?) in the Crossroads. For those of you who don't like photos of buffet food on plates, I apologize in advance. I am also copying today's menu from the website:

Caesar Salad Asiago (Non-Vegetarian)
Sedona Green Chile & Chipotle (Non-Vegetarian)

Here is my salad plate - it includes the caesar salad, the Sedona green chile salad, a salad I made with garlic dressing and feta (YUM!), the provencal salad, and the baja bean. I also have pickles on my plate:

DH's plate - also with caesar and the sedona salad among other items:

We both loved the sedona and I enjoyed the rest of mine as well.

DS's plate - I swear he picked all of this himself...!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50409II134.jpg

He ate it all, too!

Here are our drinks - we all got the strawberry lemonade and drank two glasses each. It was fresh strawberries blended in with the lemonade and I will be definitely making this at home...SO GOOD!

The cheesy cauliflower soup with green onions and cheese:

Once you have gone through the salad line, the bowls and plates and servings are all very small. I like this, because you taste a little bit here and there and theoretically don't end up rolling out of the restaurant. I say theoretically, because we still did. DH thinks it's because of all the lemonade

This was the first time so far that I have been really REALLY full.

Well, tomorrow will begin our Kidani Village adventure. And it will put us back on property and on the DDP. I am really looking forward to it, but would like to summarize a few thoughts...

1. I had no idea how much I relied on the DDP until this trip. It is amazing how much we take for granted when we are using credits instead of cash. We thought about going to Sunshine Seasons for lunch the other day and realized the counter service lunch would cost the same as a dinner out at home. Instead we opted for the gourmet Steak and Shake ;). Snacks were another thing...on the DDP, we just get what we want. We have been doing that without it, but it feels different to hand over cash instead of a room key where it feels "free".

2. I had no idea how much I love room charging and leaving cash in the room. I am looking forward to that again!

I love the kitchen, making pancakes yesterday and french toast and eggs this morning...baking cookies and having a huge fridge full of beverages (soda, water, tea, lemonade, mojitos, milk, oj, soda), the king sized bed, the huge jacuzzi tub, DS having his own bedroom with one bed to sleep on and one to play on (and his own tv!), a huge screened in patio overlooking a small lake and fountain where we can all sit around the table eating breakfast....I love it all. But DANG I can't wait to be surrounded 24/7 by all the magic!

I am looking forward to refillable mugs, being able to leave the car at the resort and taking the bus/boat/monorail, buying drinks and snacks and meals with credits and not cash and enjoying all the details.

I guess in short, I feel like we've had a great Orlando/mini WDW vacation in the last four days and now it's time to begin our WDW submersion trip.

So I'm thinking maybe FTBBQ and Boma tomorrow? :woohoo:

Thank you!! I really, really loved this place and wish we had one near us...maybe in the twin cities? I'll have to look.

We might go back there this week and get a big ol' pile of salad to go. It was that good!

Your on the same food path as me but I'm stuck here in Indiana! Taking a friend out for lunch tomorrow and she wants bbq ribs. Too bad we can't travel to Florida and try out your bbq restaurant. The other restaurant sounds good too. I feel the same as you in regards to the dining plan. Isn't it nice just to not have to think about the $$$ you're spending. It makes the trip so much easier but of course, that's my opinion. I'm thoroughly enjoying your reviews. Have fun staying at Kidani Village it sounds wonderful. Again, thanks for sharing with everyone your reviews and photos. Have a great day tomorrow.

Jen, I am so looking forward to the rest of your reviews - and please add in some pics of Kidani if you can - we are really excited to be staying there in October.

Thanks for the Bubbalou's Bodacous BBQ review - it is on our list for October but had never actually seen/read anything other than a couple of people saying it was fairly decent BBQ. Now I've seen it for myself, I think we will definitely be paying a visit.

Hope you enjoy your stay at Kidani - I don't know about missing Beach Club, I thought you'd be hard pushed to give up Wilderness Lodge :confused3

We haven't eaten there since 2003...? It was just as good as I remembered! Maybe we'll see you down here...do you mean this Wednesday as in May 6??

Yeap, we are leaving tomorrow as soon as I can get off work. We are only 5 hours away so we do several mini trips a year. We will eat our S&S on the road. I guess our real "vacation" starts on Thursday though.

I agree with your thoughts on the DDP. We tried it for the first time in Feb and couldn't believe how much we loved it. It was so convenient and it saved us a ton of money. We're going to be trying the Quick Service plan for the first time this trip.

You most definitly made me hungry for BBQ this morning. Is that exceptable food for a mid-morning snack? :lmao:

I know that you mean, it is so freeing being on the DDP, no worring about how much everything cost, not having to tell your kids to share everything, and then having to listen to them complain, eating steak on the menu even when it is over $20. We tried the DDP last trip and would never go without it now!!! I was the big joke when we got home and eat out that every resturant was on the DDP, wouldn't that be great! Crossroads is a collection of mostly restaurants located right across from the entrance to the DTD resorts. There are mostly chains over there, but all good. If you drive down to Joe's and Macaroni Grill, there is a Walgreens too, always nice to know.

We woke up this morning and had doughnuts and cereal at The Fountains. We really did love our rooms here and enjoyed the large space. But we were ready for our DVC! We packed up and left to check in to Kidani Village around 9:30. We left our bags back at The Fountains, because we didn't want to leave them with Bell Services and there was no way we'd get into our room before 4:00.

Well prove ME wrong!

Our room was ready and I would not be surprised if we're the first family to stay here (probably not, but let me dream, okay?). We are the first to open up the couch and break out the extra blankets. :goodvibes

Anyway, online checkin has been awesome at both OKW the first night and now Kidani and as we walked to our room with our brand spankin' new room keys and DDP burning holes in our pockets, where do you think we ate first?

Guesses?

Yeah...nowhere WDW...

We went back to The Fountains to get our bags, and swung through Super-T to pick up some more breakfasty cereal and doughnuts and shampoo. Afterwards DH decided he wanted to swing through an old favorite of his when he lived in Chicago (before I imported him to Wisconsin): Popeyes Chicken.

Sigh.

It was good, but I didn't even bring the camera in. We had a small snack and then went back to get our bags...then back to Kidani to unpack. We then had 3.5 hours before dinner, so we got the car and headed to DTD.

But first...a few food photos from Kidani:

We stopped here to use up one of DS's snack credits - he picked a rice krispy treat with milk chocolate, mini M&M's, chocolate drizzle. Due to a mistake, she used the room charge so we still have 24 snack credits left. I have no doubt we'll use them...;) I swear to God this think weighs about 10 pounds!

Awesome! You are the first person that I have seen to post pictures from the gift shop besides the soda machine. These look like the standard offerings. Did you notice any breakfast type options besides the stuff that you make in your room yourself? Something tells me that I will either be eating a lot of bagels in my room for breakfast or heading over to Maras.

Just joining in the fun - what great reviews!

We were just finishing up our trip when you were arriving, and so far I'm seeing several things in common between our trips. We were offsite for the first time in a long time - at a hotel for a conference the first few days, then in a beautiful timeshare while we were doing WDW. I decided not to photograph and review our offsite meals, but you ate at a couple of the places we did - Bubbalou's and Sweet Tomatoes. I thought Bubbalou's was awesome (I had a veggie plate including that awesome roasted corn).

I was super excited to try Sweet Tomatoes, but I'm sorry to say that I didn't love it. It felt kind of hectic to me, and the food was good, but not great. I'm glad you had a good experience there, though!

Looking forward to more reviews, even though I'm extremely jealous that you're still there and I'm not!

Great update Jen - what a relief to be on WDW property and 'home' :)

Thanks for the photos of the store's offerings and the bonus Mara photo. What got me the most excited was the drinks menu at the pool bar - yum, yum - guess that's where Natalie and I will be spending most of our time in October ;) Or maybe just drinking in WDW generally :rotfl:

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of the resort - and glad to hear you're going home again in December - aren't you lucky, two trips in one year :thumbsup2

You are so welcome! And you will love the pool area - it is beautiful! The spa at the top near the slide is right next to a water area (non swimming) and the theme is perfect!

I have my eye on the orange creamy drink myself ;)

Awesme reviews! You make me want to try eating off property! I can't wait for the rest of your reviews. Hope you are enjoying Kidani. :)

Thanks! And we love it - it is just wonderful! Spent some time out on the Savanna overlook today and got great photos and viewing of the zebras, giraffes, ankole cattle, ostriches, wildebeests and more all together!

I would like a Sweet Tomatoes at home for lunches...nice and fresh food! But you are very right about the hectic atmosphere.

How long were you here?

I've been loving this review! Keep it up! :thumbsup2

Thanks and will do!

:thumbsup2 she's right ! i will have a passion fruit Mojito please

Thanks for the report and pics x

Sigh...I love mojitos....they have an area with a men's fragrance inspired by mojitos in the France gardens for the F&G fest...I need to get some for DH!

Ohh....I can't wait to stay there in September! That Fusion Lemonade sounds faboo...I might have to make that my drink of choice while hanging out at the pool!

DH has his eye on that one! :rotfl:

Totally subbing! Love the food porn! Where in Wisconsin are you from? There are no Macaroni Grills around here!!!

We're not too far from the twin cities and Rochester. That's where we find all our chain places we don't have at home.

Okay, I ate at Arby's, where did you eat today???? I bet not Arby's. :) Can't wait to see photos and here how your day went. I love these LIVE reports. As always, thanks for sharing.

HA! Arby's will be back to reality for us next week! Today was Artist's Palette, Flame Tree BBQ and Cape May Cafe.

All caught up on your reviews so far! I am loving them - makes me so excited about a upcoming trip! Thanks for all your detailed information - looking forward to more. I hope you are enjoying your day at the parks with your family!! :goodvibes

Thank you - we are having a great time! The only thing that would make it better would be less heat. The humidity is not as bad as I remember from July though, thank God.

Oh this is a good one and making me want to maybe force an offsite dining experience into the mix. (Bonefish Grill is the one I want to try- think you can go eat there and tell me how it is?:rotfl2:) Have a wonderful trip.

Hmmm...what is Bonefish Grill?

All caught up now and loving your review. I have heard of sweet tomatoes but never eaten there. Sounds like a Souper Salad restaurant. hmmm...

That's exactly what it is! We saw someone today coming into DAK with a Sweet Tomatoes cup...it wasn't the strawberry lemonade but it made us jealous for a moment.

Today was Spa Day for me...I had an appointment at SSR to get the peppermint pedicure and I couldn't WAIT! We got up and ready and decided to have breakfast at Artist Palette before my appointment.

We all wanted different things, so we decided to share two bounty platters and a boatload of drinks:

One of the platters (the other took a fall off my tray and was caught by a very quick and very nice woman who saved it. It didn't spill, but was all mushed up so I took a photo of the one:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609INikon023.jpg

Scrambled eggs were good (I like my eggs very dry, but even though these weren't, they were very nice), bacon was okay, potatoes were REALLY good, I didn't eat a biscuit, the Mickey waffles were excellent and the sausage is my all time favorite (think it's the same at the Poly...?).

DH also requested a cinnamon roll - used a snack credit on this. I had one a month or so ago at Panera that looked the same and was dry and eh. This one was NOT the same...it was wonderful! I stole the soft inside part before I left for my appointment.

And finally, the beverages - two per CS meal:

After my pedicure and the boys' trip to DTD, we came back to Kidani and then headed for DAK. Had a fantastic time and stopped at FTBBQ for a favorite lunch. We decided again to share a few meals with all our favorites so we got the ribs, coleslaw and beans and the pork sandwich and beans. We got these with a large lemonade and two key lime pies.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IOlympus047.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IOlympus048.jpg

DH and I really liked the sandwich with the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. DS had his as just pork with no sauce. He isn't into spicy much ;) The beans were meh.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IOlympus051.jpg

We have had the ribs before and thought they were okay. Today I don't know what was different, but they were great! DS has recently discovered ribs and he loved them too. Very nice addition to lunch!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IOlympus050.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IOlympus049.jpg

I felt really bad about the key lime pie - I love it and so does DH, and I thought DS would like it as well. He loves citrus and tart so I thought he'd enjoy this. Not so much. I wish I had ordered one dessert as chocolate cake. But he made out okay - he ended up with one of these:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IOlympus063.jpg

Cape May Cafe - a family favorite!

Sorry in advance for the crappy photos...I realized when we got to the Beach Club that I left the memory card for the good camera in my computer so I used the little point and shoot I had in my pocket. I didn't think it was that bad until I saw breakfast and lunch compared to dinner. Argh.

We love CMC. Today as a surprise for DS, we had ordered a Celebration Goody Pack for him, which was waiting for him at the table. He LOVED it! I'll snatch it tomorrow and get a photo - from my memory it is a canvas bag filled with magnetic characters and a magnetic sheet to play with, crayons and a small activity book, a memory card game and a red Mickey straw. It was $10 and he absolutely loved it!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50609IIOlympus025.jpg

Again - sorry for the bleached out shots...

A few notes: the pasta tonight was chicken alfredo - and it was GOOD! The sirloin was very nice and DH had the idea to put it on a Parker House roll for a small steak sandwich - very good! The Oreo bon bons were a family favorite as always...the flan was meh and the apple cobbler was too sweet.

But overall? We love CMC!

Wonderful reviews!! Sounds like FTBBQ is hit or miss with the ribs. I remember from past trips the ribs were fantastic, but we were there a couple of weeks ago and they were just okay. Glad you got them on a good day!:goodvibes

I don't mean to go off topic, but was there a DVC discount on the Peppermint Pedicure? My DD went for a facial, and I asked what they had for me with a discount and the pedicure wasn't listed.:confused3 I ended up not doing anything, as most of the treatments with discounts were still more than I wanted to spend, and they didn't have any availability for a manicure at the same time as my DD's facial. Today was snacking around day...we started sharing breakfast at the MK at the Main Street Bakery. For one CS credit we got a ham, egg and cheese croissant, a cinnamon roll and a strawberries and cream smoothie. I paid cash for an oj and a banana:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709INikon015.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709INikon016.jpg

When cut in half:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709INikon017.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709INikon014.jpg

The croissant was good, as always. It has very gooey cheese (white and orange) and the egg is nicely done. DH and I split this and DS had a few bites.

The cinnamon roll was the first taken from a fresh batch and was very good. I would have loved butter with it, but the only "butter" they had was margarine blend and this Wisconsin Dairy girl doesn't do margarine...:sad2: I stole the middle part again and it was wonderful!

The smoothie was more like a strawberry milkshake and it was VERY good. At least I think so because DS had almost the whole thing himself - I recovered nicely from the key lime pie disaster yesterday!

OJ and banana? Just fine.

Snack #2 was fish, chicken and fries from Columbia Harbor House. I wanted to get the Lighthouse sandwich too, but it was hot and I wasn't that hungry and no one else in my family likes hummus.

And finally, when we got back from the MK, we decided to hang out at the Kidani pool. DH got me one of the orange cream drinks (YUM!) and the tandoori chicken caesar salad:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709IOlympus061.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709IOlympus062.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50709IOlympus064.jpg

The drink was wonderful - like a liquid creamsicle! The salad was very interesting - it looks pretty ordinary, but the chicken had a curry type seasoning on it and was very good. There was plenty of fresh shredded parmesan cheese and I liked the packaged dressing with it. It's not a must repeat for us, but it was nice to try out something new.

The MK bakery items look delicious! In all our trips to WDW(6) we've only make it there once. I definitely am going to take better advantage of this place on our next trip in Nov/Dec. I can't believe you got all of that with one credit on the dining plan. That seems like a good deal or am I wrong? The smoothie looks to die for. Throw one my way. :) Looking forward to today's photos, etc!

Loving your reviews!
The smoothie from Main St. looks delish.
And how was the Peppermint pedicure? It sounds fabulous....I think I might have to try it.
Thank you so much!

It was wonderful! Completely refreshing and pampering all at the same time. And you get to bring your cute toes with you so it lasts longer than a typical massage ;)

Lynn

They are one of the only places I know that follows the lunch CS plan - one savory main item, one pastry/sweet and one drink. OR you can pick two pastries and two drinks. I paid cash for the OJ and banana, but the other three items were a CS. We love it there - very good and always plenty of seating outside the Plaza at the yellow tables.

OK, well now I just want a cinnamon roll.

They were my dad's favorites on our trip last July - DH texted him a photo saying "wish you were here" yesterday. nice, eh?

:lovestruc I LOVE Columbia Harbour house....It is the only place, ever, that I eat a tuna sandwich LOL If you are back in that area again, would you consider mailing me one?? :rotfl::rotfl2: LOL! I have never made it in to the Main St Bakery before, that so has to change on our upcoming trip!! Have Fun!!

I should have DH get one there - he loves tuna salad!

Shula’s has always interested us, as we definitely enjoy a good steak. We had an ADR last weekend, but decided against it and made another one last night in lieu of Yachtsman (so now we have two extra TS credits to use up – WOO HOO!). A few things to note: they validate your valet parking ($13) and give you two free hours for your child at Camp Dolphin ($10/hour). DS loved Camp Dolphin – he played the Wii, Xbox, arts and crafts and went with the other kids to Picabu for dinner (included). He came home with a Camp Dolphin livestrong type bracelet and a plastic dinosaur.

DH and I dropped him off and then went back upstairs to Shula’s. We were seated about 3 minutes after we checked in. I had heard it was very dark there and it certainly is! We had a little table for two in one of the back rooms where the walls are decorated with football photos in really ornate gold frames. We had two servers and everyone who worked there was very gracious and very nice, but not stuffy, IYKWIM? We felt comfortable instantly.

There is a menu on a football that is too dark to read and you also have a paper menu. Your server stops by with saran wrapped meat and shows you each cut with explanations and recommendations. He also showed us the portion sizes of the sides/vegetables. He explained that if we wanted to order a salad or a side to share, they would split them in the kitchen and they are plenty for two. He also let us know there were three desserts they recommended to order when you order dinner, as they take a long time.
They brought out a large loaf of warm sourdough bread and a large pat of the funky Florida butter. They were both good together. The bread was soft with a chewy crust. For dinner, we ordered the Caesar salad to share, a 12 oz filet with béarnaise, a 22 oz cowboy ribeye and grilled asparagus with balsamic reduction to share.

The Caesar salad came out quickly and the size was definitely plenty for two. We both were served our own. We had time to talk and enjoy each other’s company before the steaks arrived. They bring them out on a covered plate and have you check the doneness right away, using a small flashlight (it is DARK in there!). They say the Shula cut is better than prime and I was expecting something that would melt in my mouth. The steaks were both very good, but I have to say my dad and DH have both served up better grilled steaks to me. Other than not meeting my high expectations, I have to say they were still excellent. The asparagus was very good while hot, but as it cooled down it started to taste less appealing. And there was so much, there would be no way we could have eaten the entire thing anyway.

DH had decided to order dessert, so he let them know we would like the chocolate soufflé when we got our salads. Because we waited, it took an extra 10 minutes after eating, which was just fine. When they served the soufflé, it was HUGE. He poured crème anglaise into it and then cut it into 4 pieces and served two to me and two to DH. There were two cups of vanilla Haagen Daz and one of fresh whipped cream to go along with it. The dessert was very light and good with the outer crust tasting like a chewy homebaked brownie crust. When we added some ice cream and whipped cream the soufflé was just amazing.

We didn’t rush through dinner, but still managed to get DS within the two hour limit so we only paid a tip for his dinner and childcare. The steaks were very expensive, but when you share a side or salad, they are reasonable and we would have paid at least $35 for DS at the Sandcastle Club.
All in all, it was a fun experience and one we’ll probably repeat, but not any time soon.

This morning we woke up at the crack of dawn and stumbled out into the sunshine to have breakfast at one of our favorites - Kona Cafe. DH and I have had breakfast here as a tradition every trip when DS does the Grand Floridian Pirate Cruise. This trip we skipped the cruise and brought him with to breakfast.

We were seated immediately and started with Lillikoi juice for DS, OJ for DH and a Cafe Mocha for me:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon013.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon016.jpg

After stirring in the whipped cream

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon017.jpg

The cafe mocha was perfect!

DS decided on the Mickey pancakes and sausage:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon019.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon020.jpg

It was strange - he gets the "bear" pancake every time we go to Country Kitchen, which is one large pancake in the shape of Mickey Mouse. Here at Mickey's home, he gets three pancakes set on the plate to look like Mickey. Nonetheless there was a TON of pancake for him and he liked both the pancake and sausage.

I ordered my favorite - the blueberry pancakes (three large!) and sausage:

bottom:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon026.jpg

The pancakes were very good - I added butter and syrup and the sausage started out excellent and then got a little greasy. I still enjoyed it, but had to leave almost half.

DH decided on his usual - the Big Kahuna. This has eggs (he got scrambled), macadamia nut pancakes, french toast, sausage, ham, bacon and breakfast potatoes. He loves this:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon023.jpg

He enjoyed this as usual, but gave me his sausage which I couldn't eat. All in all, a fantastic breakfast tradition!

We headed to Epcot for opening and after a quick peek at our future in Spaceship Earth, we went over to The Land. We saw the Circle of Life and then headed downstairs. We had discussed doing the Behind the Seeds tour and DH went to book it while DS and I took a few gratuitious photos during breakfast time:

the electronic menu:

We then rode Soarin' and Living with the Land and when we were finished, we had about 30 minutes before our tour. We decided to get a snack, so instead of using a bunch of snack credits, I decided to get a CS credit and a snack. We went to the Asian section and got Spicy Thai Chicken with three sides instead of two entrees and two sides. I picked stir fried veggies, lo mein noodles (udon noodles?) and broccoli for DS ( I swear to God, it's his favorite!).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon065.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon066.jpg

The Thai Chicken was okay to meh. As were the stir fried veggies, but they had fungus in them, so I may be prejudiced. DS ate all the broccoli with chop sticks and loved it. The noodles were very good. But we really didn't order the CS for the main course. We ordered it for the large lemonade

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon075.jpg

And more importantly, for this:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809INikon068.jpg

One of my all time favorites EVER ANYWHERE! A tiny bit of cake, tons of fresh whipped cream and fresh strawberries. I let DH have a little bit and then I enjoyed the rest myself. YUM~!!!! DS didn't even try it because he was busy with this:

Dinner tonight was actually Le Cellier. But we spent nearly seven hours at Epcot and to be honest, we really don't have the love for Le Cellier that we used to have. Last summer when we were there, we had a very snotty hostess who refused to check us in until our whole party had crossed the path into Canada (which I do understand, although no other restaurant did that...in fact, we were going to cancel Coral Reef when my dad and his wife were going to be 45 minutes late, but they actually held our ADR which was above and beyond) and then my nephew and I were still eating our entrees when our server took everyone else's plates and handed out dessert menus. We just feel they have gotten too popular and too busy and not really for us. The only reason I made the ADR was for DS and the pretzel bread. So we promised him his very own pretzel bread from SuperTarget when we get home and he was fine with us finding another place.

The concierge here was able to get us both of our choices: Yachtsman and Whispering Canyon. We even had 3 choices of times. (***NOTE: if you want to switch your ADR's around and you're here, go to the concierge. They are so nice and they are able to go in and book you something right here and now. We have breakfast tomorrow at CMC that they booked at a perfect time!***). In the end, we decided to take the early ADR at Whispering Canyon.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon030.jpg

We were seated about 45 seconds after checking in and our server was very nice and only a little into the antics, which was fine with us. We each started with a milkshake, which is such a vacation thing - definitely not at home.

DS had his favorite - vanilla:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon038.jpg

DH and I both got the "some assembly required" chocolate shakes :rotfl:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon039.jpg

We all decided on the Canyon Skillet ( I debated on the grilled ribeye, but didn't want steak two nights in a row. I saw it going by the table and I was happy with my choice). Our server brought out salad, coleslaw and cornbread:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon046.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon044.jpg

Loved the salad, but the cornbread was a little dry and the butter tasted like margarine. I really don't like Florida butter. :sad2:

The skillet has changed since we last ate here - it still has ribs, mashed potatoes, pork and corn, but now it has brisket instead of sausage. It was all extremely greasy, but it was all still very good:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon047.jpg

DS's meal was the fruit cup, Canyon Skillet with the chicken and chocolate chip cookies for dessert:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50809IINikon050.jpg

We ate way too much and brought DS's cookies back here and got our desserts to go. I ordered the apple pie and DH ordered the s'mores cheesecake. They are currently in the fridge, but I will take photos before we eat them and then post later.

All in all, a very expensive meal we would not get without the DDP, but a fun evening out and a good dinner over all.

Tomorrow we have a brunch ADR and a dinner ADR, but in between we will be taking it easy - it is finally our down day, so we'll be exploring the resort, hanging by the pool, maybe heading to DTD to shop and have lunch, maybe hitting the outlet mall and exploring other resorts. Today was a really early morning after a late night, so I'm looking forward to a lazy vacation day.

Hope everyone has a great Friday night!

I can't wait for strawberry season to come around to make my own along with some homemade strawberry jelly!!!! We ate at WC last time in Feb 08 and enjoyed it also. Have you ever ate there? Hi Jen, been away from the DIS for a couple of days and just got caught up. Firstly, it is NOT a good idea to read food reviews first thing int he morning after a day spent drinking - I am so hungry this morning I could eat a horse - or several cinnamon rolls at least. Shula's sounds like a good deal, given that your valet parking and child care is included. How did the steak compare to Yachtsman because I remember you loved it there on a previous trip? Glad to hear you had a little drink by the pool at Kidani. I am so looking forward to staying there.

Today was snacking around day...we started sharing breakfast at the MK at the Main Street Bakery. For one CS credit we got a ham, egg and cheese croissant, a cinnamon roll and a strawberries and cream smoothie. I paid cash for an oj and a banana:

So am I the only idiot who looked at the picture of the croissant right after the picture of the banana and thought that you stuffed the banana in the croissant for a joke? :rotfl2: I only thought it for half a second, I promise! :lmao:

And finally, when we got back from the MK, we decided to hang out at the Kidani pool. DH got me one of the orange cream drinks (YUM!) and the tandoori chicken caesar salad:

So yesterday was supposed to be our "down" day, right? Yeah.... We ended up having breakfast at Cape May and then headed over to Epcot for an hour or two. Or seven. Yup, ended up doing all of WS and had a blast, but got pretty sunburned. We came back to the resort and decided to switch our dinner ADR from a 6:00 at Spoodles to 8:20 at Spoodles. DS had time to do the Camp Kidani activity (which he LOVED!), DH and I got some pool time in while DS was at Camp, and then we headed over to the Boardwalk for dinner. The rest of the evening was on the BW and we had a great time.

Therefore...TODAY became veg day! We had breakfast at Boma and then camped out here to watch a movie and relax in the AC. We then decided to hit the Pepper Market for lunch, since we've never been to CSR. We also cancelled our 6:00 ADR at Tutto for a late ADR at the Wave. We've never been there, and are looking forward to trying it out. Plus, MK has EMH tonight so we want to hit the park when the sun is down.

So...on with the food!

Cape May Cafe breakfast:

We started out with a few plates of fruit - absolutely beautiful and fresh!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon017.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon018.jpg

Then on to some hot items:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon020.jpg

Eggs, bacon, cream cheese pastry (minus cream cheese...?) Chocolate chip muffin and biscuits and gravy - all very good.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon029.jpg

breakfast potatoes (good), bacon and sausage (good), eggs (decent), lemon poppyseed bread (okay) and bread pudding with vanilla sauce (excellent, but had raisins...yuck). Mickey waffle? Perfect.

More breakfast:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon031.jpg

And finally - yum!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon033.jpg

We enjoyed this breakfast - Goofy sat down and played tic tac toe with DS and beat him by cheating...DS loved it! We haven't done a character meal in a while and it was really nice.

Snacks at World Showcase:

Breakfast was late-ish so we really weren't hungry much. It was also REALLY hot. So my first snack (OOP) was this lovely item we found in Canada:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon125.jpg

Yes, it looks like a plain bottle of water. But look closely - it is 1.5 LITERS of water! WOO HOO! For $3.50, it was worth every single penny for the cold delicious water on a horribly hot day.

Next we wanted another drink and decided to get a little snack. We used a CS credit at the Tangierine Cafe and it was outstanding!

We decided to get the Chef's Special of the day - Moroccan "sliders" of chicken, falafel and lamb in mini pitas. We got a large pink lemonade and a baklava for dessert.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW508-909IOlympus053.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon174.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon175.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon172.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW50909INikon173.jpg

My favorite was the lamb, but I'm partial. The falafel and chicken were both very, very good. The lemonade was tart and sweet and I really liked the crunchy and sweet baklava.

A great snack to share! I wish it wasn't a "special" because I'd enjoy it on a future trip.

desserts from WCC - leftovers!

When we got back to the room after Epcot, we relaxed and enjoyed our desserts from the night before:

DS's cookies:

S'mores cheesecake:

While DS was at the Camp Kidani, DH and I hit the pool. We refilled our mugs and saw this menu for private dining, poolside. It's all menu items from Sanaa. We had seen a family do this earlier in the week and it was interesting to see items and prices. Looks like a great idea for dinner around the pool!

Spoodles!

Oh Spoodles, how I will mourn you....

We did use TS credits here, but started out with the main item I will miss from this moment on. Thank God Allears has the recipes...

The Mediterranean Dips:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon035.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon036.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon037.jpg

There is a garlic feta dip, almonds and olives, a garlic cucumber dip, a Moroccan dip I can't remember, hummus and tons of pita. My all time favorite is the feta dip, with an olive for extra salty goodness.

The bread and tapenade that comes will all meals:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon041.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon040.jpg

DS ordered the chicken noodle soup, which never came. He decided he was full of pita, so he didn't care. His entree was Mickey ravioli, which he liked:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon044.jpg

I ordered the Rigatoni with Italian sausage, tomatoes and portobello mushrooms, minus the mushrooms. The chicken I had last trip was no longer on the menu and all I really wanted was the dips, so I didn't really care about my entree. I'd had this before and liked it, so I got it again. And again, it was very good.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon045.jpg

DH ordered the Oak Grilled Steak Kabobs. He enjoyed his meal:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon046.jpg

For dessert, DS ordered the "make your own pizza" dessert. It was a very soft sugar cookie, already scored in pizza slices served with strawberry "pizza sauce", white chocolate shavings "cheese" and strawberry slices "pepperoni". He asked for chocolate sauce and received that too:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon057.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon058.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon061.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon063.jpg

He didn't really like eating this, but had a ball making it. I tried it and it was really good.

I ordered the Celebration Lemon Pound Cake with sesame seeds and Marscapone cream and limoncello:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon060.jpg

This was very good, but I had to leave much of it since I was so full.

DH ordered the Chocolate Cherry Semi Freddo - he loves chocolate with cherries and really enjoyed this. I tried it and it was excellent!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon059.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon062.jpg

All in all, I will miss the Mediterranean Dips, but the rest of the meal was so so. Probably a good way to say goodbye, as I won't miss it as much as I thought I would.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ALL!

This morning we had brunch at Boma and it was very nice, but a bit frustrating. The line to check in was very long, but we were seated shortly. Every mother was given a carnation, which was very lovely and we were seated and given juice and water right away.

The lines at the carving station was crazy - it wound through into the dining room and people were not into the "grazing" thing of going up to the pod you wanted. In order to bypass the carving station and get french toast or bacon, etc you would literally have to cut in the line to do so. This made it feel like much of our meal was spent in line waiting for one or two items.

The food itself was REALLY good though!

DS's cheese omelet (made to order), bacon and toast:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon080.jpg

My onion and ham, cheddar and swiss omelet (excellent!!), apple turnover (meh), blueberry muffin (very soft and fresh - loved it!) and banana bread (so good!)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon081.jpg

DS's banana bread and blueberry muffin:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon084.jpg

Carved turkey (very moist) and more banana bread:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon085.jpg

A huge pile of bacon:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon087.jpg

Challah raisin French toast:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon089.jpg

Juice:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon079.jpg

More hot items:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009INikon078.jpg

Overall, the food was delicious and the service was okay, but I am really disappointed in the chaos at Boma this trip. It is strange - the AKL, Jambo House overall seems crazy busy compared to the serenity over here of Kidani. But I still love both.

This was a first for us - we've never been to CSR and we decided to explore a little and have some lunch. I took a few photos at the bakery right off of the gift shop as well.

This isn't food, actually, but how cute is this?

Bakery items:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon017.jpg

These cinnamon rolls were HUGE! Bigger than my hand outstretched!

Gelato:

Assorted pastries:

I didn't get a good photo of DS's meal...he had a glass of orange juice, a slice of cheese pizza he did NOT enjoy (it was okay), a huge orange wedge and a chocolate chip cookie.

DH and I both ordered from the Mexican entrees. I had the chicken quesadilla with rice and black beans and a diet coke and DH had the steak fajitas and rice and black beans:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon029.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon030.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon031.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon033.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon034.jpg

These were completely made to order while we waited and were huge and excellent - we were very impressed! There was too much food, but it was all very, very good!

For dessert, we paid OOP ($1) for churros for DS - these were cold and crunchy so he was a little disappointed.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon039.jpg

He ended up sharing with DH and with me. DH got a very good chocolate cake:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon042.jpg

I got more strawberry shortcake. This was a lot more cake that Sunshine Seasons, but tons of fresh whipped cream and the berries were good so I loved this:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51009IINikon043.jpg

All in all, a very good meal and truly a beautiful resort...!

Do you have a favorite breakfast buffet on this trip? Just wondering. We ate at Donald's Safari at Tusker House last year at it was really good but I'm always up for a change. When is your last day? Thanks! My camera for most of the shots is the Nikon D60 - I love it! I have used either the automatic setting, the no flash setting or the close up for most of the shots. My project this summer and early fall is to master all the amnual settings and to get another lens (we have the 18-55 and the 55-200, but want an all in one 18-250 or some such) for even better shots next trip.

Try "celebration goody bag"...and tell them it's the one they can do only at Cape May, Chef Mickey's, etc. And if all else fails, order it when you check in at the podium.

I got the info off the WDW website under "celebrations".

Well we just finished packing up and are getting ready to head out early tomorrow morning (although not so early that we don't get to check our bags here, thank God!). We'll be back home by 12:30 tomorrow and although I'm looking forward to seeing my dad and having lunch with him where DS can tell him all about Camp Kidani, Behind the Seeds and everything else we did, I am so not ready to go back to work Thursday :rotfl: I keep telling myself we have to work to pay for our vacations, right?

I have a few days of food photos I have downloaded and I will finish my report tomorrow. I am hoping to do a review of Kidani with tons of photos and a review of The Fountains with tons of photos and possibly a TR, but we're really not that interesting ;)

Thank you all for joining us on our journey and I'll post lots of photos tomorrow night!

And ironically - if you look at my OP here, you will read that Goofy's Candy Co snack credits and WPE cookies were the items we took home with us last July...

...guess what we got tonight and packed to take home? :rotfl:

Just wanted to wish you safe travels tomorrow and welcome back to the midwest. I've really enjoyed your dining report and pics. Thanks for sharing with us. I took the plunge today and finally made a deposit on a trip back to WDW. :cool1::cool1: DH and myself will be celebrating our 25th anniversary with a trip Nov 29 - Dec 4 and will be staying at POP. We can't wait. We've never been w/o the kids and never at Christmas time either. I don't think our DSs 21 and 20 will be upset that we aren't taking them but I'm not sure about our youngest son (11). Maybe we'll get a bounceback offer and be able to book something for next year. Again, thanks for sharing your reviews, pics and vacation with us.

Dinner on Mother's Day was supposed to be at Tutto Italia, but DH and I were feeling lazy and DS wanted to go to Camp Kidani (5:30-7:30) so DH went up to the magnificent Concierge and changed our ADR to a later dinner at The Wave. We'd never been there and wanted to try it, so here was our chance!

The restaurant was really cool and the blue lit tunnel to get in was very impressive. We had a short wait before being seated. Here is the snack menu in the lounge area:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon063.jpg

We were able to order milkshakes on the DDP, so I ordered a vanilla shake for DS and drank his diet coke and DH ordered a chocolate milkshake.

Vanilla:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon068.jpg

DH being "artsy" with his chocolate drink:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon071.jpg

The bread and salted butter - very good!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon069.jpg

DS's starter was the mixed vegetables:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon081.jpg

I ordered the soup of the day OOP - Artichoke and Hazelnut soup with a mini grilled cheese (brie) sandwich:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon079.jpg

If you like artichokes, this is excellent!! There is the tangy artichoke with the subtle nut flavor and the grilled cheese was perfect with it. I was happy to have tried it.

For our entrees, DS opted for the cheese pizza:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon080.jpg

DH ordered the filet with mashed celery root:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon083.jpg

He was going to substitute something for the celery root, but I talked him into trying it (I had seen it on Good Eats and was curious!). It tasted like mashed potatoes seasoned with celery seed...very good and very interesting! The filet was absolutely delicious...! DH and I were surprised that it was better than the filet at Shula's.

I ordered the marinated flank steak with guacamole:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon082.jpg

This was very good! When we make flank steak and guacamole at home, we marinate it in olive oil, lime juice and southwestern seasoning so this was not what I expected...the marinade was sweeter, like balsamic vinegar. It was still really, really good!

DS chose the kid's sundae, but opted for just vanilla gelato and sprinkles:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon088.jpg

DH picked the sorbets - strawberry, pineapple and lemon-basil. The strawberry was SO good, tha pineapple was good and the lemon basil smelled like air freshener and was pucker sour (which in our family is goooo-ood!):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon085.jpg

I got the Decadent Flavors: Blueberry Compote with Yogurt Gelato, Lemon Cornbread with Vanilla Panna Cotta, or Chocolate Mousse with Salted Caramel Sauce. The blueberries and yogurt were very good, the lemon cornbread was dry and blah. The chocolate mouse and salted caramel sauce was....oh my GOSH excellent!!! I would have loved more sauce, and the mousse was perfect.

The flank steak with guacamole looks awesome...I have never tried flank steak before...Is it similar to a sirloin?? Sorry I am so clueless :lmao: The desserts look fabulous too! The Wave wasn't really on my radar for this trip, but I may have to change my mind on that one!

Flank steak is really, really good! It isn't a typically tender steak, but if you marinate it (we love olive oil, lime juice and southwestern spices or just olive oil, salt and pepper) for an hour or so and then cut it against the grain, it is SO good! Flank steak (leaner) and skirt steak (not lean) are the most used beef cuts for fajitas.

I had read really good reviews for The Wave, but it wasn't really on our radar...but when we just didn't have the motivation to actually hit a park for dinner and started looking at the resorts, it just seemed like a great choice. And truly, it really was...!

Loving your reviews and pics!!! :)

Thanks!! It's not live anymore :sad1: but I still have lots of photos to post this weekend!

Loving your reviews.

Must have bag!!

Isn't it GREAT!! And I checked and they do have it at the World of Disney - it's in the little girls' princess area. It isn't a big bag, but it just screams "DIS!" doesn't it?? :rotfl:

While DS was at Camp Kidani, DH and I hung out at the pool. We shared a bevvie that we both love - the lava colada (I think). It's a swirl of very sweet pina colada and very tart raspberry puree. It is a really sweet drink, but we've always liked it.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus012.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus013.jpg

and with the refillable mug - the pool bar has a section to refill your mug, as does Johari Treasures in the lobby.

Monday was DAK day and DH decided it was also time for breakfast. We had tons of CS credits left so we wandered around and discovered that Pizzafari served breakfast. We had never been there (we're a Flame Tree family) and the inside of the restaurant was incredibly cool with all the animals. We especially loved the colorful wooden bats on the ceiling.

Menu:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon119.jpg

DS wanted cereal and a cereal and milk was a snack credit:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon121.jpg

DH and I shared a platter with eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and a biscuit:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon124.jpg

We also shared a cinnamon roll - as usual, I picked out the inside and ate that and it was very, very good:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon125.jpg

We also had 2 orange juices with the CS meal.

Overall, a nice and typical WDW CS breakfast.

Later in the day, we decided it was time mainly for a drink (HOT!) and maybe a snack, so we stopped at the Yak and Yeti CS place. Nothing looked especially good, so we decided to share the sweet and sour pork, large lemonade, frozen lemonade and use a snack credit for the pork egg rolls.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon256.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon257.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon258.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon260.jpg

So what to say about this meal...? The eggrolls were not to our taste. I would actually say they were pretty nasty. We also did not really enjoy the sweet and sour pork, but DH and I both decided that it was probably okay, but the combination of the sweet sauce, the very hot temperature of the food, and the very hot temperature of the weather just wasn't good. If it had been a cooler day out, we may have liked it more. But regardless, the eggrolls were nasty.

We loved the cold lemonade drink and the frozen lemonade also hit the spot and were both worth the CS credit. We ended up throwing most of the actual food away.

That pina colada drink looks really yummy! You asked if we've been at Christmas time before and the answer is no. This will be our first visit. Would you mind if I sent you a pm with a few questions (probably more than a few haha). If not, no big deal. Your dining report has been awesome. Thanks for taking time to report each day. Hope you're having fun back in the real world!

Oh please do!! It is my absolute favorite time to visit WDW and having this trip planned really takes the sting out of having to come home. I'd love to answer any questions you have...there is SO much to see and do that is different during Christms!

You know - I'd read good and bad things about it too, but when DH suggested it, I thought it would be fun to combine exploring a resort we'd never been to with lunch. We really were impressed and I know he wants to go back in November.

After a not so successful lunch at Yak and Yeti CS, we headed for DTD to enjoy some WPE. We have one up here that we visit at the Mall of America, but the menu is not nearly as extensive and the CS option makes it a lot more fun to order what we want. That said, I was really looking forward to it. We ordered two meals again to share.

DH ordered the rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes - his standard favorite!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon314.jpg

I ordered the Mu Shu Chicken pockets. I asked for extra sauce on the side, but somewhere between me asking DH asking the cashier telling the chef it turned into extra sauce in the pocket (I suspect the breakdown was between DH telling the cashier...not sure DH was really listening to me ;) ). So it ended up being a little too saucy, but SO SO SO good!!! The chicken was perfect, the sauce was very good. The vegetables were crunchy, there was cilantro and the pocket bread was soft and perfect. I ended up dumping a lot of the filling and putting back about half as much to eat with the bread. The homemade chips were also really good. I dipped them in the Ken's honey mustard and they were perfect!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon311.jpg

FOr dessert, we ordered a fruit cup and a creme brulee. DS inhaled the fruit and DH and I shared the creme brulee (although DS also ate that strawberry!). The fruit was fresh and delicious and the creme brulee was absolutely divine. I would go back just for that!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon309.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51109INikon313.jpg

We had great service with lots of soda refills. We also got a few cups of water and were back and forth refilling those ourselves. It had been wicked nasty hot at Animal Kingdom that morning and were were a wee bit dehydrated!

All in all, an excellent meal and VERY worth the CS Credits ($41 for two CS meals!)

Monday night we decided to use our last TS credits for a late dinner at the Grand Floridian Cafe. DS wanted to do Camp Kidani again so we needed to bump our ADR later so after debating a few places we hadn't been for a while (Olivia's, Turf Club Grill) and two we had never tried (Captain's Grille, Grand Floridian Cafe) we decided on the GFC. Interestingly, most of the menus seemed very similar.

We got there on time and waited almost 40 minutes for our table. This was, by far, the longest wait we had for an ADR the whole trip. The other waits has been closer to 0-10 minutes, including both Mother's Day ADR's. We spent most of the wait taking photos outside on the beach and of the flowers so it was still a good time.

We started with the rolls - some were very crusty sourdough type rolls and the others were sweet raisin bread:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon080.jpg

We each decided to start with an appetizer. DS got the chicken noodle soup:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon082.jpg

DH opted for the caesar salad, which was okay:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon085.jpg

I ordered the Field Greens - with Fresh Strawberries, Roasted Cashews, and Crumbled Feta tossed in Strawberry Vinaigrette:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon083.jpg

This was REALLY good! I had wondered about the combination of feta and strawberries, but it really worked. :thumbsup2

DS ordered the kid's steak for his entree and really enjoyed it. The steak was cooked perfectly and he loved the broccoli:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon086.jpg

DH and I both opted for the ribeye, haricots vert and french fries. The steak was relatively thin and reminded me of the steaks we get up here on company cookouts. The green beans were good and the french fries were excellent! Overall, it was an average entree, but we both did enjoy them. Not a steak destination, but definitely good meals:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon087.jpg

FOr dessert, DS ordered the fruit cup:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon090.jpg

DH and I split the combinationa platter:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon089.jpg

This included a lemon cheesecake (DH loved!):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon095.jpg

Tiramisu (my favorite!):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon096.jpg

A creme brulee key lime pie - very good!:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon092.jpg

Chocolate Mousse cake - very dark chocolate taste. I liked this a lot:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon091.jpg

And, of course, the easel - made of chocolate and sugar. This was so incredibly cute! DS immediately snapped it up.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon094.jpg

All in all, this was a nice meal but not a must return ADR.

On Tuesday, DS was signed up to be at Camp Kidani from 9-11 so DH and I hopped the bus and took the short ride to Jambo House for breakfast at The Mara. We decided to share the breakfast platter and the bacon, egg and cheese croissant with juice and soda:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon107.jpg

This was very good, but mostly all made up before we ordered it. Breakfast at Artist Palette had been much fresher.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon106.jpg

This was also set up with the cheese in it and they added the scrambled eggs and bacon before serving.

We stopped at The Mara again on the way back to Kidani for a late lunch. DH and I decided to split entrees again. We shared the half chicken dinner and the double bacon cheeseburger. The chicken was served with couscous and a tomato/veggie sauce and was very good:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon271.jpg

The fixings bar had everything we needed and the cheeseburger was delicious - and the first burger we had the whole trip:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon272.jpg

I also used a snack credit to get a cup of soup - it was my favorite butternut squash from Boma and although it looks like nacho cheese, it was wonderful!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon273.jpg

DS got the kid's macaroni and cheese with fries and applesauce and this was really good!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon270.jpg

We brought both desserts back to the room for later:

carrot cake - okay, but had raisins (ick!)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209INikon326.jpg

Simba brownie - super rich and fudgy...this was excellent!

Our traditional last vacation meal was at WPE. We had four CS credits left and used three here.

DH got his other favorite - the spicy chicken pizza:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus072.jpg

This was wonderful, as always!

I ordered the rigatoni alfredo with chicken and the side caesar salad:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus076.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus067.jpg

I liked both of these a lot and would order again. Sorry about the whiteout glare on the photos...it was raining so I had the waterproof camera at DTD that night.

DS ordered the kid's pepperoni pizza:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus071.jpg

For dessert, he got the twist frozen yogurt:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus080.jpg

DH and I each got a chocolate chip cookie, which we brought home with us. Best cookies EVER!

* Celebration sucker
* Mickey Pez
* Chip and Dale mixed nuts
* two pieces of chocolate nut fudge
* toffee slab
* Mickey PB cup

While DS and I were doing this, DH stopped at EOS to use up our last CS credit. He ordered a BLT for a night snack, a water and a cupcake crown:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus092.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus095.jpg

The sandwich was great - even cold a few hours later. Definitely something I'd order again!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/slkjck/WDW51209IOlympus091.jpg

This came home with us too. Usually I love these, but this one had chocolate frosting instead of white so it was good, and not amazing good. It was yellow cake, fudgy frosting and sprinkles.

And that is all for photos...I'll be back later to indulge myself with final foodie thoughts.

I did a little cost comparing this weekend and based on the menu prices of everything we ordered that was covered by the DDP, plus tax on the TS meals we came out about $320 ahead. Since snacks and CS also have tax, the number is actually a bit more than that.

Now - would we have ordered all the same things without the DDP? Probably not. But to us, ordering milkshakes and desserts and extra snacks is part of the fun. So in the end, we feel our savings were actually nearly 50% of what we spent.

One thought we had a lot on this trip, and the heat probably had a lot to do with it: We would be completely slaughtered by the Deluxe plan. We had one day where we each had a breakfast credit used (TS), a lunch credit (CS) and dinner (TS). This was Mother's Day at Boma, Pepper Market and then the Wave (where I did have an appetizer). And even then, we didn't use 6 snack credits that day. We just weren't that hungry. I'm not saying we'd never use it - DH and I have talked about a trip with just the two of us where we go to a lot of the 2TS places - because the challenge sounds like a lot of fun. But on this trip, we would have been very full and very unhappy on DxDDP.

On the other hand, we found that sometimes we really didn't want to do a TS meal. And none of the TS's really stood out to me this trip. DH and DS really like The Wave and I did enjoy it. But some of my favorites (Boma, Spoodles, Whispering Canyon) just didn't live up to my previous experiences. And we changed a lot of things on the fly (which I loved being able to do). And we had some really fantastic offsite meals. So that said, we're doing a split stay on out next trip, and we're thinking about doing the QSP for the first stay, going offsite for a few and paying OOP for Thanksgiving dinner. But who knows? In the end, I was much happier having that Key to the World card in my pocket with the room charging and DDP than not. And for whatever it's worth, I do love the DDP.
