I have had some friends that have been to the Mouse over the last several months (at different times) and were on the DDP. The were allowed to get the chefs choice which include appetizer, entree and dessert for one price. they were only charged for the regular sit down DDP and no extra $$ for the appetizer? Has anyone else had this happen? I know for sure at Chefs and Le 'Cellier were two of the resturants that allowed it.

Also they where allowed to share a appetizer and dessert instead of both having to have dessert. Did they just get lucky, or has anyone else had this happen?pixiedust:::MinnieMo::MickeyMo

Thanks for any info.

I have heard that you can get the Chef's Choice but that they do not allow any substitutions on it.

Both Chefs de France and Le Cellier allow the Chef's Choice menus on the basic DDP, but as the previous poster said they allow absolutely no substitutions on it. If you notice the options for these are the cheaper appetizers, entrees, and desserts.

If you do the Fantasmic pkg at either Mama Melrose or Brown Derby you also get an appetizer even on the basic DDP, because an appetizer is part of the pkg.

There have never been any reports of anyone being allowed to trade a dessert for an appetizer if using the regular menu until now. I think your friends may have just gotten lucky. One of the reasons Disney supposedly did away with the appetizer on the DDP was to make tables turn over faster, plus desserts are easier and cheaper to produce. If Disney allowed a table to exchange appetizers for desserts, then everyone would do what your friends did and split a dessert and appetizer, which would defeat the purpose of turning tables over quicker. The basic DDP clearly states entree, dessert and nonalcoholic beverage. I can't see Disney changing it midyear with no notice. My mom is a diabetic and not even for medical reasons was she allowed to switch a dessert for an appetizer.

This is only the second report on this board since January 1, 2008 of anyone being permitted to swap an appetizer for a dessert on the basic dining plan. According to everything heard from Disney, it's not supposed to happen.

Chefs and Le Cellier are currently the only two restaurants with three course fixed price menus consistently available to anyone on the basic dining plan. Marrakesh will request a surcharge.

I appreciate all the information. I told my friends that they just got lucky with the appetizer swap. My girlfriend's husband just sorta asked and the server said, It usually not allowed but its late so I don't see a problem and that was that. They were at Epcot at the Rose and Crown.

Its great to know about the chefs choice at least its a option as not have to pay for an appetizer.:thumbsup2

I can't find the exact post, but I recall the poster said it was $7 to upgrade to the Marrakesh Royal Feast.
