Hi Everyone,

I thought it would fun to post a thread to see who is driving, when and where. Maybe you could find someone to carpool with down there or make a little CP caravan if there are more than one car going down. Or we could also post tips, idea and questions.

I'm driving from AZ and am leaving on June 16.

Anyone else out there driving?

My fiance and I both are doing the CP, and both bringing our cars (My fiance is into vintage rat look VWs he will be bringing his bus and it is a sight to see)

We are driving from Ozark, AL

We have driven this route about 5 times, it takes about 7 hours

We will be leaving Aug 9 in the morning around 8 or 9 AM, we want to get down there with time to check into our hotel and make it to the dinner at TRex that the Aug 10 group is doing

I won't have a car, but my dad is driving me down (the 4th time he has made this drive). It will take about 19 hours. We probably will leave on Aug 6th, and arrive probably around late morning/early afternoon on Aug 7 (I am hoping to pick up a few character attendant shifts before check-in).

You should be excited for stoping in Nashville for a couple of days. I only spent 10 hours there on my road trip last summer. Granted most of those were spent at the bars. I still loved it. If you can drink I highly recomend the Big Bang..

No prob Big Bang is on I think it was Broadway.. Like all the big bars and stores on that street. We stayed at the Hyatt Place across from the Gaylord Palms in Nashville and there is a huge like shopping area at the Gaylord.

I drove across country like twice last summer 19,988 miles (june-october) as a Mobile Marketing Coordinator for the Dew Tour. Hence the 10 hour stop in Nashville on our way to Orlando.
It will be a little different this time around as I won't have a big SUV wraped in graphics with Ryan Sheckler, Shawn White and Ryan Nyquist.lol. Still looking forward to it in June. Just not so much driving through Texas.

We're staying overnight at All-Star Music and then check-in day is May 18th! I've never been on such a long road trip before, so it should be a time.

Hi! My daughter and her friend have both been accepted and we're arriving on May 19th. We'll also be staying at the All-Star music! Your check in date is the 18th???!! I havent heard of that...theirs is the 20th. It would have been great if you guys could have met up....we're from Chicago, but we spend time every year in Bedford, Gloucester, and down the Cape! I also am familiar with Hingham, Hull, and Pembroke as I know people from those towns! I have a very dear friend who lives in Bedford. I lived in Boston, then Waltham years ago...in the 70's. What role did you get?!!! My daughter will be doing hospitality and her friend is doing housekeeping. My daughter is on the boards --Tashiana T.-- but she's not on too often---she's been swamped because she graduates in a couple of weeks. Will you still be at the All-Star Music on the 19th? Maybe you could meet Tashiana and her friend Judy!

Oh, cool! I'm gonna try to get down to the Cape in the next two weeks before I leave, as it's just not summer for me without a Cape visit. :goodvibes I'm actually in Weymouth, so very close to Hingham, Hull, etc. I'm doing the summer alumni program (I did Spring Advantage back in 2005) and going back to my QSFB role. Sadly, my check-in day is the 18th, so I won't be at the All-Star Music when your daughter and her friend get in! But it's very possible I'll be seeing her this summer! :) Does she know where she wants to live? I'm going to try to get Patterson this time, but I wouldn't mind being back in Vista (I loved it)!

Hi! I think my daughter and her friend were looking to move into Chatham or Vista because at first she wasnt going to drive down...but now, she's bringing her car and the two of them are following us...she has a small car so not all of their stuff will fit well. She was worried at first that if she didnt have a car and the bus doesnt stop at Patterson, that she would have a difficult time getting to work on time..Im glad she's taking her car so she has the freedom to go wherever... whenever! Is there any advice you could give me about the whole experience? I sure would appreciate it! Lucky you to be able to go to the Cape so frequently! My girlfriend and her hubby have a summer home in Gloucester and we've spent time there.. but we all get together and head to the Cape, too. We've spent time in Hyannis, Falmouth, Brewster, Chatham, well, actually, all over the Cape, so no sense in me listing every single place! I absolutely love it and try to get out to Mass. annually. Unfortunately we wont be going this year...at least no plans at this time... we come out in the fall...its very nice at that time. This year we'll most likely be visiting Disney in the fall instead! One question, since my daughter is now going to take her car, but she stated to Disney at first that she wasnt going to be bringing a car, what do we do or how do we contact them so that they're aware that she'll need a parking sticker? Or, do we have to contact them at all before we arrive? And, does her name have to be on the insurance card? My name is on the card because the car is in my name. :)

Is there any advice you could give me about the whole experience? I sure would appreciate it!

Well, I'm sure this isn't anything new or profound, but the experience really is what you make of it! Like with any other job, there are going to be some bad days and some days when you're homesick. I called home a lot and that helped. I was also able to take a couple days off a few months into my program and visit home. That helped my sanity a little. :goodvibes But really, I spent my program getting out of my comfort zone. I'd never lived away from home before. I met amazing people from not only all over the country, but all over the world. I made friends with so many different kinds of people with different points of view that I wasn't used to. I got a little daring and did things I probably wouldn't have at home (like skydiving -- what a fun time!). If you can just keep a sense of humor and remember the magic, the bad days aren't so bad! The only thing I would have changed about my program is that I wish I had a car, which I am remedying this time around! It'll be nice to have the buses as an option for work and play, but I felt trapped in the Disney bubble for seven months and I know I'll have more fun exploring Florida this time around. And your daughter will have lots of friends since she's bringing her car. :)

I didn't bring my car down on the first program so I am not 100% sure on this, but I don't think you need to contact them. Her name needs to be your proof of insurance somewhere though. It says this under the Housing FAQs on the official site:

If you decide to bring a vehicle, parking at your apartment complex and the Walt Disney World Resort Complex is free of charge to Walt Disney World Cast Members and is patrolled by security. If you bring a car, you must be able to provide proof of ownership:
Current vehicle registration
Proof of insurance in your name
U.S. driver's license

Good luck to your daughter! :yay:

While your making sure you have your vehicle registration, insurance etc. Don't forget to pack what you need for your I9 forms. Like Driver Licen. Social Security card and/or Passport. I know alot of kids that forget to bring those down and then have to spend a couple of days at the social security office waiting to get a replacemnet card.

I totally understand about spliting up the driving..I have a 33 hour drive without stops. Most of it is through a whole lot of nothing. Though it gets better once you hit the Lousiana border. Alot better rest stops the farther east you go too.

Hi! Thank you for this information! Is a Social Security card necessary? My daughter cannot find hers and was going to present her birth certificate along with her drivers license. The birth certificate needs to be either the original or certified copy of the birth certificate with the offical seal.
You can google Forms needed for an I-9 if you have any other questions.

If you can get a replacement social security card in time I think you definitely should! My sister did the program last year and she couldn't find her card but had her birth certificate and license, but when she got to filling out the forms Disney gave her a hard time about not have the social security card and she had to go on this half day excursion to get a new one anyway. I'm not really sure why this happened as it says you can use those replacements on the website, but I know as I've been preparing to leave my sister just keeps asking me if I have my social security card because it was a huge hassle for her. I just went to order a replacement last week and I already have it, so they do process the requests quite quickly!

Easiest way is Turnpike, It's just a straight line but boring as hell. If you take the parkway you will end like 2 hours east of where you want to be. I am coming from around Rutgers so I am more north than you, but still i think the best bet is Turnpike because it technically is 95 which is most of the drive down.

I have never been to a sonic either, but the commercials are on all the time that I want it so bad. Stupid marketing techniques.

Wow! We're right next door to Naperville! It would be nice if you could run into my daughter while there! Are you planning on going to the meet and greet? I hope we arrive in time so that she can go--she's planning on moving in with a girl she went to school with in Macomb. She graduates 5/16 and we leave on 5/18 so we will be arriving on 5/19 and the meet and greet starts at around 5:30, I believe. I wish you and your future roomie the best-- this is such a fantastic opportunity for all of you!

I'll be driving from Pennsylvania to Florida for a check in on June 15th. My dad is coming with me to help me move in, then is going to take a plane back so I have my car!

Hi Jonny! Wow! You lived in Bensenville?!!! Thats where my husbands company was located before they moved to Wood Dale! What a small world, after all, (get it?--ok, so Im a little corny!) My daughter is Tashiana T.-- you've spoken briefly on these boards with her before-- she'll be doing hospitality--so, maybe you two will get to meet each other somewhere along the line. Im so glad to hear your Mom is extremely excited, too! She and I are probably just kids at heart so therefore, we are soooo happy for you guys! We wish we could be doing the CP too! Too bad you werent going for FA, cuz I would have liked to meet you, but when you get there and settled, look for Tashiana! Good Luck to you! and also, while reading these boards I have gotten a kick outta you! You seem like a really fun person! :thumbsup2

Hey Jonny! I just told my husband that you lived in Bensenville-- he's knows it well since as I mentioned-- his company was there for many years-- he also knows where that huge junk yard is-- Irving Park Road and Green Street, is what I think he said. Ive always wanted to see New Jersey-- have never been there--I lived in Massachusetts for many years a long time ago. I love the ocean so we try to get out to Mass. annually. Your lucky to live where you can enjoy the salt air and the waves all the time! :)

hahaha thats the junk yard. its a pretty nice out there...alot different from the jersey shore haha but it was an experience...mass is a really nice place as well i have some extended family that lives around the cape cod area and we try to visit every so often. Yeah i took growing up by the ocean for granted once i went to bensenville and everyone was talking about lakes i was pretty much out of the loop there, but im glad that i grew up were i did cause the ocean is a block away, new york city is and hour and half away, philly is an hour and half the other way(but who wants to go there:rotfl:) so i got to experience a lot of places in my 22 years. As far as new jersey goes it s pretty strange place lots of different areas from super rich areas to inner city settings to beach towns to even some hick areas down south you can find any type of place here even casinos. ive talked to you daughter as well and im doing bell service dispatch so we might even be workin in the same resort who knows. ill see you around the boards and your daughter down in disney:cool2:

Hey Jonny! The junk yard...well, what you saw is a place called "Victory Auto Wreckers" which has been around forever and its sort of locally famous for having one of the cheesiest commercials on our Chicago stations! The commercial they keep running to this day is one they made like back in the 1970's-- its really corny. So, ya, up by Ohare its a lot different from some of these other suburbs--its like more industrial up that way. Our town is a lot cleaner and neater looking--but that is such a busy area because of the airport. Now, even tho Ive never been to New Jersey, I do know where Seaside Park is---lucky you to live where you do! We also go to the Cape and have very close friends from that area that we visit---anyway, tell your Mom I know exactly how she feels! And I'll be seeing you around these boards!:cool1:

Thank you so much! And yes it would be great to meet her! Do you know which complex your daughter is planning on living in? And I will definitely be going to the dinner on the 19th! I hope you guys arrive in time! Will you also be going to the dinner? I saw that some parents are going, I wasn't sure if you would be too.
Well my name is Lauren, be sure to say hi if we run into each other! I think I'm the only Lauren going to the dinner (wow, imagine that! I have never been the only Lauren anytime in my life!) last name starts with K though in case I'm not! See you soon! Ahh I'm getting sooo excited!

Hi Lauren! Im not sure which apt complex Tashi wants-- I think either Chatham or Vista--which one do you want?! Hey, I sent you a private message-- check it out! We didnt think we were gonna be there in time for the meet and greet so Tashi cancelled it! Now, as it turns out, we are leaving late in the day on the 17th rather than early morning on the 18th, so we will arrive mid-day on the 19th and we all could have gone--- so, now, Im wondering, if we cant go to the dinner --maybe we could just stop by and say hello to everyone---I guess it cant hurt to try! I can definately relate to how excited you are to go-- we are too! Although, right now, Tashi has soooo much to do before graduation so she's stressing a bit about that! Let me know which apt you are hoping to get!
