upgrading to Deluxe dining plan and payment

I'm taking my DD6 to WDW Sep9th 16th with Free dining yippee!!:cool1:

Booked through CAA and final payment is due July26th. However, I'm thinking about upgrading to the Deluxe DP just so I can take DD to more character meals and don't have to worry about any extra food costs at all. I know I can add this on upto 72 hours before we arrive. The question is when do I have to pay for the upgrade? At the time I upgrade or can I pay it when I get to WDW? Anyone know? (Just trying to get my budgeting right!)

we just downgraded our Deluxe plan to the basic free dining. It seems more logical for us we are paying oop for three breakfast and snacking in between as needed. We like the freedom to not have to follow a list for snacks and it is a 1000.00 difference in the two dining plans for us. I can cover tips, the three meals that are oop, snacks ,and the MNSSHP with that 1000.00 dollars.

Within 45 days you have to pay at the time you make any changes. With a package you cant make any payments at the resort

We did this last year and we stayed 5 nights and the upgrade cost was $300 for 3 of us. The nice thing was the refillable mugs are included (not sure if they still are). It was too much food but we did treat ourselves to a couple signature meals. We payed at time of booking. When we got home I totalled all the food receipts to see if the delux was worth it and we barely broke even. That is if we were to have paid for the delux in full. I don't think I would pay for the delux on its own. The free basic made it worthwhile.
