View Full Version : Off Topic but do you (women) wear make-up while at the parks

I can't imagine why I would since I am sure I will be working up a sweat, but my SIL is getting ready to pack and is concerned about where to put all her beauty products. I keep joking w/her that her make-up alone will put her over the baggage limit!! I would probably throw some one for dinner etc. etc. but that would be about it.

Yes some makeup I do.Mostly Bare minerals in the parks. I like to look decent for all the pictures and I have become quite a pro at not sweating off my face in Fl

I usually wear minimal makeup in the summer in general unless it is a special occassion. I can't stand being in the heat with makeup on my face. So at Disney I usually don't wear any during the days when we are in the park. I may put some on for dinner though.

I wear a full face everyday!

I don't want to scare the children and I want to look good in the vacation photos.

Since I get photographed at Disney more than anywhere else, I make sure I have makeup before going to the parks. Most of the photos are taken at the beginning of the day when the makeup is fresh anyway, but even later, I prefer having makeup in photos than not.

Now don't get the wrong idea. It's not like I put on as much as going to a party, but just enough to look natural but "enhanced". If I do need to wipe my face, I just wipe around my eyes.

Count me in as another who wears make-up as well. I wear Bare Minerals foundation, a swipe of mascara and some chapstick to keep my lips from getting sunburn.

At home, I wear eyeshadow and blush, but skip those for the parks. With all of the running around and sun, if you aren't naturally flushed within the first 15 minutes of being there---you might want to check your pulse!! :goodvibes

This might sound gross to some people, but if you use a non-comedogenic creamy-type anti-perspirant on your face before your makeup, it solves the problem entirely! I learned this trick when I used to work in a very hot environment but I still needed to look nice. My co-workers taught me. I just use the Secret twist-up kind. It won't clog your pores either (I'm very cautious about that). I'll add that I have extremely sensitive skin and this never caused a problem for me.

That said, yes, I do wear a normal amount of makeup every day at Disney (chapstick, concealer/ foundation, eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner and mascara.)

I hate looking like crap in pictures and with the anti-perspirant trick, I've never had a problem keeping it on!

Count me in too! I don't wear a lot of make-up but at Disney, I wear the same make-up that I wear everyday - Everyday Minerals foundation, blush, and finishing powder, Clinique eyeshadow, and Max Factor mascara. On my lips, I just use Blistex - no lipstick.

Since I go in the summer I skip the foundation. If I didn't I would feel like the wicked witch of the west. "I'm melting! I'm melting".
I just use some blush, mascara and lip gloss. I actually think I look better than in full make up in my pics.

just eyeliner, mascara and eyeshadow. Also something that has sunblock for your lips. I use sunblock for my face and body.

Count me in...Bare Minerals here too. It has SPF and doesn't come off when I sweat. A smidgen of eyeliner, a bit of mascara and I swear by Cover Girl Outlast lipstick. I also do because of the photo opts. My foundation had a sunscreen in it, so that's a plus. And honestly I really haven't noticed my mascara or eye liner really causing any problems. Though I haven't gone in the dead of summer for at least 10 years.

Neutrogena sunscreen, and lots of eye makeup and tinted lip balm. I have some new stuff that has a frost to it and I really love it! It's called pearl soft lips. i usually see it in the check out at Publix or Kroger.

Yes I do but I also don't go to WDW when it's 150 degrees.

I put on my regular MAC studio tech, bronzer, lip gloss and eyeliner. I do my hair too. This is what I do every single day unless I"m going out to a nice place then I add in a bit more makeup. There is no reason for me to look a hot mess just because I'm at WDW. :lmao: Plus I will be in pictures..HELLO!

I HATE wearing make up in general, and I never wear it. Very rarely, much to my mother's horror even now. Hehe. Anyway, while at disney, I am caked up in neutrogeana (sp?) sunscreen, and I do wear lipstick for the pics.

I do wear full makeup for everyday life. However, at WDW, during the heat of summer, I only wear tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, waterproof mascara, and Cover Girl Outlast lipstick. I guess I don't think I look that bad with just that (for photo purposes), plus it is highly unlikely that I will encounter anybody I know, and even if I do, who cares, it's my vacation!!! At night, though, I usually do put on a full face when going out to dinner.

If it's HOT, no way. But last year, I went in Nov. and it was actually cold enough that I didn't sweat, so I did wear it then.

Nope. No makeu pin the parks for me. I don't wear makeup everyday at home anyway (just to work, usually or out to dinner with my husband)

While I like the way I look with makeup on (duh, otherwise why would I wear it?!) I also don't think I look hideous without it. Especially in a hot, active environment.

I can speak on behalf of my DW because after 14 years I know her makeup habits. She will not wear makeup in the parks. She will not even take any to Florida. DW only wears a little makeup sometimes if we are going out somewhere fancy. She is blessed with beautiful skin, and most people think she is at least 10-15 years younger than she is--sometimes 20. She doesnt like to cover up her natural beauty.

No way Jose, but I rarely wear make up as it is (I go through spells...but I'd say an average of twice a month).
I am use to heat and humidity and learned a long time ago I look way worse with make up running down my sweaty face than I do to just have a clean bare face.

I get ready just like I would for any other day. I like to look nice in the parks and we take a ton of pictures. I expect to get hot and sweaty, so I don't pile on the eye makeup and stuff like that, but I do use some makeup and lip gloss.

Face powder and/or a light foundation or tinted moisterizer. First thing, I put on a sunblock of at least SPF 30..yes, I'm ghostly pale but I have no wrinkles!!

I usually don't do mascara or eyeshadow..if I do it's at night.

I'm a Bare Minerals convert and wear it every day (mineral veil, base, smidge of eyeliner). The base feels SO much nicer on my skin than any sunscreen I've ever used. I'm a hardcore gardener, as well as a summer WDW visitor, and haven't had problems with the Bare Minerals "melting" off my face, even when the temps are above 90.

Sharon Kay
04-27-2009, 05:14 PM
Well I haven't been to Disney in 25 years...so it's time we returned...and I am a minimalist in the makeup department anyway...thinking just the mineral makeup so my face looks "ok" in pictures since I am thinking I will get the photopass.

Yes I will wear makeup while I visit next weekend. Probably bring my mineral powder though instead of my more liquidy stuff. I'm thinking of bringing the following (not too much!)

-powder foundation OR some kind of mineral veil
-eyelash curler
-mascara
-eyeliner (for when I go out to dinner at night)
-maybe one eye shadow
-lipgloss

That isn't far from what I normally wear anyway :thumbsup2

04-27-2009, 07:59 PM
Nope, I don't wear makeup in the parks.
I'm not the type to generally wear makeup hardly ever at home anyway- except special occasions or going out and such- but even when I DID used to wear makeup all the time I still didn't wear makeup if I was planning on going to ANY park all day in the hot sun where I'd just end up looking a mess anyway.
But also I have to keep sunscreen on my face all day- and reapplied/etc. (so no, putting on sunscreen and then makeup won't work unless I wanted to completely clean my face and reapply sunscreen then makeup again many times a day- while at the park. no thanks!). I have to keep sunscreen on my face at all times because if not- the pregnancy mask that never goes away (thanks to my 2nd pregnancy with DS) gets darker and shows up in more places too! (ie: last summer started showing up around the sides and above my eyes onto my forehead instead of just my cheeks!)

So no, I don't wear makeup at the parks even though I know I'd look way better with makeup. I wore makeup to the parks one time years ago when I went in Jan- but never wear it if it's in the hot sunny times of the year. I have never got a "close up" photo in the parks anyway that would make much difference with makeup- so the pictures thing isn't an issue for me anyway. Our pictures are always our entire family (or me taking photos of the kids myself all the time) and it's always been far enough away that wearing makeup wouldn't make a difference in how the photo looked. Au natural (+ sunscreen) is the way I go to the parks.

BibbidyBobbidyBoo

ps. until this thread I had no idea that so many women wear makeup in the parks. I thought I was normal not to- and now I know I'm not so normal! LOL

count me in as one who wears make-up no matter how hot it might be! I have lupus and the subsequent butterfly rash across my nose and cheeks, so I like to have that covered. My foundation has an SPF of 30, so I've got two bases covered! Then just some waterproof mascara and Burt's Bee's on my lips.

A lot of people use the Bare Minerals or Everyday Minerals lines. I've tried both, but I really like the mineral line from Maybelline. I tried it after I saw it featured in a magazine and I have to say I'm impressed. Any of the mineral lines will even out your skin tone and give you some sun protection. It doesn't melt off in the FL heat either.

I am a make-up girl too. I am too pale not to. I don't ever tan. I have three colors, red (from sunburn), pale, and paler. I look like one of the ghosts in HM, and they are tan compared to me :rotfl2: At the parks I ALWAYS wear powder, eye shadow, blush, and lip gloss. I use Burts Bees lip stuff. It isn't as heavy as a regular lipstick, and it isn't dry like a lip stain. It keeps my lips moisturized and adds a touch of color. I am not big into trendy looks, but I do like to look natural and earthy for the pictures.

If I am going out for a nice dinner at the parks I use 3 different color shadows, foundation, mascara, eye liner, lip liner, and a bronzer if I am too pale, along with the above mentioned products.

Sephora has these great eye shadow appliques where you just place them on your lids and rub. The color goes right on your eyes, and they do the "smoky" look. There are some funky ones too that are pretty cool. I use these when I am too lazy, or uncoordinated to do the sexy, smoky look, or when I run out of time :)

Bare Minerals is an all mineral based loose powder foundation that is good for you skin and has spf. It's very light and does not "run" off your face if you sweat like liquid makeup can. Nowadays many stores carry some kind of mineral line. I love the Bare Minerals brand though because the line also has something called Mineral Veil which is like a translucent powder. I sound like a spokesperson! Lol

If I am there in the summer I wear as little as possible during the day and than at night I get all dolled up:)
In the winter I wore my "normal" amount during the day when i felt like it and then maybe a little more at night for dinner.

1.Bare Minerals Foundation - it is a natural sunscreen and it doesn't melt off your face!

I wear my Bare Escentials everywhere except the gym and the hospital (but I must be the one actually ill/injured). Otherwise, every day I protect my face with a 58 SPF sunscreen, and my foundation powder with 15 SPF, plus at least eye liner and lip color.

Few have seen me without my war paint :scared: I use a sealant spray that wards against sweat - Ben Nye Final Seal (I'm hard core lol). I'd recommend it.

I have tried everything under the sun, from expensive (Bobbi Brown & Laura Mercier) to cheap cheap (N.Y.C., Wet & Wild) and here are my favorites that work well in the Florida heat:

MAC eyeshadow
L'Oreal Voluminous mascara (NOT WATERPROOF) which works just as well as Dior Show or Benefit BadGal)
Clinique Quickliner For Eyes
CG Fresh Complexion concealer (spot stick only!)
CG TruBlends Mineral Loose Powder (works better than BareMinerals IMHO, I've had both)
CG Cheekers Blush
CG OutLast Double Lipshine and/or MAC LipGlass.
GAP SPF 18 chapstick
Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15 or Mary Kay Timewise Moisturizer SPF 15 (Both are equal IMHO)

I only do spot stick because I find that a spot stick and a loose powder look more natural and flattering than a true foundation. I think foundation causes breakouts, even non-comodogenic brands.

HTH someone :)

Facial moisturizer with sunscreen, tinted lip-gloss with sunscreen and waterproof mascara are all I use during the day. When I freshen up for dinner, I add some eyeshadow. My hair is always up in a ponytail or a twist - I can't bear to feel it on my neck in the heat and humidity. :scared:

I've tried to do makeup, but it just ends up sweating off. Now I just slather on sunscreen and wear sunglasses to hide the makeup-less eyes! A tinted lip balm with SPF and then I'm ready to go!!

I did for our trip because I knew we'd be taking lots of pictures. That said, we went at the end of October. If I were going during the summer, I probably wouldn't bother. (Although I will NEVER go during the summer.)

That is a good question. I want to look good in pictures but I have a bad habit of rubbing my face when I'm hot. So it prob wouldn't be worth the effort.

We used to go in February and I did then, because it wasn't hot. But now we go in September (free dining) and it is so humid and rainy that I don't bother. :confused3

:thumbsup2 Me too. Bare Minerals is the best vacation make-up.

I haven't read through this whole thread yet, but keep seeing Bare Minerals coming up and want to know more. I have a lot of trouble with foundation. I don't like heavy things, but need some coverage, and I have a hard time finding the right shade. (Usually a line's lightest will make me look chalky, but the next lightest will not match my neck.)

Is this stuff really that good? How are the colors? And where do you get it?

Thanks!!

I do wear makeup at WDW. I normally skip the foundation and powder early in the day and stick with the eyes and lips. I want to look nice in pictures. :)

I have the same problem with matching foundation (LIGHT skinned) and not liking heavy makeup (acne problems) and I swear by it. I think it might have some sort of light reflecting minerals in it since it always seems to blend perfectly from face to neck. I think the best way to buy is find a bare minerals store near you and have them match your shade, which I did, but some other places might sell it, check out their website, it might say where the stores are. :)

I wear my make-up every day at home here in the UK - trust me, there's no humidity here :lmao:

BUT, when I went to WDW last year, I didn't really wear any. I think I took the holiday thing a little too far and even stopped putting my make-up on :rotfl2: I will say though, before next year's trip I'll most definitely be taking a trip to my local beauty salon and getting my eyelashes tinted - I'm blonde and was totally mortified when I had no mascara to make me look like I actually had some eyelashes! :scared:

Other than that, it'll just be my chapstick with sunscreen in for me! :thumbsup2

I have used Bare Minerals before and liked the results, however, it is a little too much trouble for me (too many steps). I don't use it for my everyday make up, but do use it on vacation.

Do spray tans actually work? I have never done one, and I am so pale I think that they would make me look orange. Are there different shades of spray tan? I am going in September, and I would love to look tan, as opposed to my normal ghost shade. I would at least like to have some color right after the summer season :) This is when I usually hibernate because I burn so easily. :rotfl:

When getting a spray tan, do you have to get naked, or can you wear a swimsuit or something. I am pretty modest, and the naked thing embarasses me...ALOT

Thanks for any info!

You read alot about the ladies with blonde lashes that say they need mascara to make their lashes show up, but what about all the brunette ladies out there. Do you wear mascara? My lashes are dark, thick, and fairly long, but I like to curl them. Without mascara the curl doesn't last of course. Anyone use the clear masaca? Does it hold the curl and is it any good?

For those ladies that want their lashes to show up, try the Kiss Me Heroine Volume or Curl mascaras from Japan. I made the mistake of buying a tube of both on ebay and they make your lashes soooo long that they look fake. Due to her age and her glasses my mom has very short, sparse, gray lashes that never show up. I tried some of the Kiss Me Heroine mascara on her one day when she was complaining about having NO lashes and we were both shocked. She looked like she had long curling doll lashes. I swear they looked like I had applied a pair of the longest fake lashes I could find. I love how the mascara seperates, thickens, and defines each lash. I also like how it never smears or flakes and lasts until I use cleansing oil to take it off. However, I don't like how it makes my lashes look too long and fake. It'd be great for people with short pale lashes though.

I wear make-up every day, so it's kind of second nature to throw it on when going to a theme park.

I have really sensitive skin and my make up has SPF in it, so I use that instead of sunscreen when I can.

I use make-up every day at the parks: foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lipstick. I do my hair as well. We go in the summer and I never have a problem with makeup fading or melting off. The trick here is to use a primer (foundation, eyeshadow, and mascara). Your makeup will stay on all day throughout heat, humidity, and rain (yes, and even Splash Mountain). I use Monistat chafing gel as a foundation primer. No, I'm not nuts - I got the idea from the Make-up Clique thread on the Community board. It works very well and it's cheap!

Also, I use a mineral make-up but much prefer Everyday Minerals to Bare Minerals. It's cheaper, has a better color selection, no bismuth (causes me to itch) and it comes in a matte formula which I prefer due to my oily skin. You can find it here: http://www.everydayminerals.com

I was just about to post the same thing! I used to love my Bare Minerals, but could never quite figure out why my face would itch and burn slightly, especially when I was out in the heat. Then, two years ago during a June WDW trip, I broke out in a horrible, itchy, bumpy rash on my face, in the exact areas where I sweat the most (forehead and around my nose and chin). I did research when I got home and found out that it was probably the bismuth oxychloride in the Bare Minerals that caused the rash. I switched to Everyday Minerals, and have never had that problem again. Plus, it's way cheaper, and you can even order a free sample set consisting of three foundations, a blush, and a concealer, so you can try it out first. Love the stuff!

This happened to me as well but I thought it was a reaction to the heat. I've used Bare Minerals for a couple of years and rarely had problems until my skin was exposed to the southern states humidity.

Have you girls that use the Everyday Minerals had problems with breakouts at all? I have very sensitive skin.

I thought the same thing, that it was just a heat rash or something. But, after doing the research, I realized it was the makeup. I go to college football games in the fall, and when it was hot, my face would itch and burn then. I wouldn't get a rash, but the makeup was definitely irritating my face. I think being out in the heat for 12 hours a day for several days in a row at Disney finally caused my face to react. I also had to quit using the Bare Minerals brushes. Within 5 minutes of applying my makeup, I would break out in hives. I talked to someone at Ulta, and she said they use fox hair as part of the natural fibers in their brushes, which(if true) I was obviously allergic to!

I haven't had any problems with the Everyday Minerals or their brushes. No breakouts, no rashes, nothing.

WOW, it is cheaper!! When I need to replenish my Bare Minerals it costs me at least $60. I noticed Dillards is carrying MAC mineral makeup now so I was tempted to try that.

I'm going to place an order online for the everydayminerals.

I do wear makeup. I put on suncreen first (i'm very very pale so need more protection than whats in the makeup). Then once that dries completely I put on bare minerals (or my generic equivelant of)...and i'm off. I also don't do my hair...it's really thick and no matter how long i spend on it...once i sweat i look like a poodle...so it goes up in a pony-tail.

Spray Tans look great, providing the right prep is taken and of course good products are used and you have a good airbrush tech. Don't do an automatic booth! I own an airbrush tanning studio and we typically do 10-20 spray tans a day. We prep the skin properly and ensure the customer is educated. As far as what to wear I'd say about 10% go completely nude and the rest typically go topless, but swimsuits may be worn (some people like tan lines). Trust me we see everything, we are so focused on our work, we don't notice much else. We are able to customize colores from a light to a just got back from Mexico dark! Any other questions just ask.. I love educating people on Spray Tan!! I have never had anyone turn orange either :) (not that it can't happen)

Thanks so much for the info! Like I said I have never done a spray tan, but it sounds like something I am going to try. :woohoo: Just wondering how long a spray tan lasts. And does the color get darker the more you do it, or can I stick to a lighter shade? TIA!

Mandi78

Typically it lasts 5-7 days sometimes longer (if you use the follow up products) No, the color doesn't get darker the more you do it so you can stick with a light color and it should be the same everytime. Also you have to be sure to put on sunscreen because it doesn't offer any UV protection. Ask around for good places for Spray Tans in your area (make sure it's airbrush though) Good luck :)

I'll generally use a lighter version of my normal makeup - eyeliner, mascara, blush and chapstick, plus an oil-free face sunblock (I'm quite pale, I need more than what's in bare minerals). It all generally stays put but my main problem is extreme shininess - I look like a wax figure in most of my pictures. I've tried powders like bare minerals, and my face is sensitive, so I don't think I should try anything like the deodorant suggestion. Anyone have any tips?

I wear make-up. I want to look nice in my pictures and I'm one of those people who wear a little make-up everyday anyways. I use a long-lasting foundation that has spf, a glossy lip balm and I curl my eyelashes. I like to look put together and pretty no matter how hot it is. ;)

I wear a little bit of makeup to the parks. Like most PPs, I either wear Bare Minerals or something similar. I just ordered some new Bare Minerals wear all of it contains a SPF including the eyeshadow and lip gloss. I used to get itchy with the Bare Minerals, but now it's just fine - no itch. :confused3 I just use enough to cover my red areas. However, lately nothing is holding up in our 100+ temps. that we have had here for over a week. Everything starts to melt!

Wearing makeup is a personal preference. If you feel more comfortable wearing it, then wear it. I honestly could not tell you how many women I saw wearing makeup during our trip last summer....well, except for Princesses and some pirates!!!! :rotfl:

I wear foundation, blush, powder, eyeliner, and mascara. I start it off with SPF 15 under that, to protect my face. I used to use this light Covergirl foundation, and this year I think I'm switching to Clinique "almost make-up" foundation. I've tested it in Sephora and the shades are perfect and it seems to last a long time. I use a powder blush/powder to minimize shine, and I look dead to the world without eyeliner/mascara. I come prepared with q-tips to fix the smudges under my eyes.

I wear my mineral makeup called "Lavish". Its like Bare minerals, but dont break me out. And I wear Mascara. cause If I dont wear mascara then I look like I have no eye lashes. They are just as blonde as they can get. I do take some lip balm with me to the parks to keep from getting all chapped....
