Hello everyone, I'm a fairly new DISer, but not by choice. You see, karma has endeavored to keep me home while the rest of my family enjoys WDW regularly. Well, this time I took control! I am GOING TO DISNEY!!!! So after months of lurking on this board, most of our ADRs are made, and we leave in 6, count them, 6 days!!!

I decided to to a Trip report because so many people, who are so varied are going, I thought it might really help people plan.

Trip info: May 2nd - 9th, staying at the Boardwalk!! Yes beautiful Boardwalk!

Cast:

Myself :cool1:- The foodie. 29 (Ahem) years old. Food isn't my life, but it's certainly 80% of it. I work in a restaurant full time, doing everything from managing, to bartending, to serving, and training. At home, I do all the cooking, and pride myself on my knack of being able to make something taste better than at a restaurant. I'm an adventurous eater, and love to read menus. When I eat out, I score a restaurant on management, the server on how they're coping, and the food on how it's prepared and delivered. Considering the amount of time I spend in a restaurant each week, they have my sympathy - but I don't tolerate stupidity either. Favorite foods: any seafood, steak, risotto, and anything with a creative touch. I've been to WDW once before, on a commando trip when I was 17. 3 days, and only 1 restaurant meal (Coral Reef) Most looking forward to eating at Artist Point.

BF :3dglasses: - 36 years old. He's an engineer and gets to break things for a living. What a job! He loves burgers, fries, and generally will order that, no matter where we go. Or else the cheapest thing on the menu... Sigh. However, at home, he'll eat anything I put in front of him, and loves it. Favorite foods burgers, as mentioned, salmon, pasta of any type. Been to WDW once at around 20 on a family trip. They sandwiches out of a cooler the whole time (the horror - the absolute horror!) Most Looking forward to Hoop De Do

Brother :surfweb: - 41. A longtime DISer, and the holder of the coveted DIS points. He is my partner in crime on the planning, plotting, and deciding. We are the Dynamic Disney Planning Duo. His favorites include Sushi, steak, and ribs. Been to WDW a gajillion times. Most looking forward to Yachtsman

SIL princess: 30something- Long suffering, non-planner married to a planner who has an enabling planning sister.. She is the reason we're only having things halfway planned, compromise and all. She likes spicy food, pasta and seafood. Been to WDW a Gajillion times. Most looking forward to: Yachtsman

Mom :cheer2: She's been along for the ride a lot, enjoys eating out but dislikes planning. Her favorite foods are salmon, alfredo, and a good salad.
Been to WDW several times, generally as a babysitter/kid entertainer. Most looking forward to: Artist Point

Boy1 popcorn:: 9 years old - part 1 of 2. He eats NOTHING. Seriously. Generally he'll eat Mac and cheese - if it's the right kind. He'll eat salad, broccoli, sometimes chicken fingers and sometimes a hot dog. No recognizable meat except for chicken legs. He will end up life a vegetarian I'm sure.

Boy2 :happytv: 9 years old - part 2 of 2. He, is determined to be a Chef, watches the food network with me, and loves to try new things. I always end up sharing with him. His favorites are steak, ribs, and he loves a good pasta. He'll also eat salad like no tomorrow, and sometimes reverts to mac n cheese.

Needless to say: Making ADRs with this group was interesting, but we finally got it accomplished. We are on the DDP, but have left it open as to what CS restaurants we're going to.

ADRs as of today are:

Sunday: Artist Point

Monday: Crystal Palace for Breakfast, and Hoop De Do Review for dinner (for 5 of us, :surfweb:princess: are not coming

Tuesday: Marrakesh

Weds: still open

Thursday: Cape May (dinner)

Friday: Yachtsman

We are still debating over Wednesday, and I think there's talk of Sushi, a late night Raglan Road trip sans kids, and also Beaches and Cream...

So stay tuned!!

So the Wednesday night looms, that night, there are no kids dining, because they're going with their parents to Cirque..

So, we've been debating, Chefs De France? Maybe... Jiko? Possibly... I just can't decide. And frankly I need to make the ADR.

Speaking of which, I put off making ADRs forever. We had made Crystal Palace, and Hoop De Do early, and then just put it off. I made them all yesterday, and got every restaurant at every time no problem. The only place we didn' manage to get was Garden Grill. Disappointing to my brother. I didn't really want to go so not so much to me..

Off to do more research on where I really want to eat for that last night...

We are back! I'm working on getting pictures ready to post, took a lot, forgot to take a few (sigh). Sneak peek:

Artist Point
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Cosmic Rays
Beaches & Cream
Liberty Tree
Yachtsman
Pecos Bill
Crystal Palace
Hoop De Doo Review
Yak & Yeti CS
Wolfgang Puck Express
Main Street Bakery
___

We were on the DDP and ended up using all of our credits, worked great. I'm thinking it saved us approximately 500.00 for 7 people, and that was without worrying about what the best value was.

More later :)

Good to know people are reading! and thanks for reading along :)
Food porn coming soon - I'm uploading it right now, and will put in pictures either this morning (if it finishes before I head to work) or else this afternoon.

If I could title this trip, it would be: Of Mice and Men, and Minor Disasters. It started with a lost cell phone, ended with a lost camera, and in the middle had all sorts of issues. But despite it all, we had fun.

So after a long day of traveling, waiting for the Magical Express, and calling security over the lost cell phone, we finally reached the Boardwalk. We checked in, dropped off our belongings, and immediately headed to Beaches and Cream. Despite it being 9:30, there was still a 1 hour wait.

So, we sat down outside, and decided to get ice cream. After all, we're in Disney! Ice cream can be an appetizer. My brother and I stood in line, and ended up with cones for the kids. One had chocolate and one mint chocolate chip, We also decided everyone else needed a hot fudge sundae to share.
While I got the cones out to the kids, we were paged, and got seated at about 10:00. Our server was Brian, who was outstanding in every way, and thought it hilarious we sat down with a sundae before we even ordered food.. Brian had been serving at Beaches & Cream for 12 years, and was from Ohio. Everyone there clearly enjoyed their job, and we weren't rushed despite being the last seated for the night.

Drink refills were when the glasses were half full, and the table was prebussed right away.

http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp179/oceanrose/wdw031.jpg

The sundae was amazing! Tons of whipped cream, slivered almonds, a cherry, loads of warm hot fudge, mmmmmmmmm! It was 3 scoops, but seriously, they were huge!! All 5 adults split it, and we still didn't finish it all.

For dinner, the adults all got cheeseburgers, except for BF who ordered a veggie burger. Some got fries, and some onion rings. I chose the onion rings.

http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp179/oceanrose/wdw037.jpg

The burger was great, though greasy, american cheese, and the toppings were fresh. Personally I thought the onion rings were slightly undercooked inside, and overcooked outside. The fries were much better.

http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp179/oceanrose/wdw034.jpg

The veggie burger had whole grains in it, and actually looked really good. BF loved it and inhaled it, along with half my onion rings.

The kids each had a hot dog, and loved it, but despite the ice cream cones from earlier, they were starving still.

We did skip dessert, after all, we'd eaten it first! It was a perfect first night meal. Afterwards, we walked back to the Boardwalk to get some sleep for the next day. We had planned on visiting Epcot, and had ADRs for Artist Point that evening.

OMG, all of a sudden, I am having this craving for a veggie burger. This coming from my drooling month, a carnivore, is a big deal.

OMG, all of a sudden, I am having this craving for a veggie burger. This coming from my drooling month, a carnivore, is a big deal.

That Veggie burger was really good, and probably saved him a gazillion calories, though I only had half my burger, saved the rest for breakfast (I'm weird I know)

I love that you had ice cream before dinner!! :rotfl2: When else can you do that but on vacation.

Looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

I considered asking to do this at all the restaurants, as it was, we ended up getting most desserts to go, and eating them later.

great review :thumbsup2 the ice-creams look yummy

It was really, really good, though we were also really, really hungry lol.

I'm going to try to get Artist Point done here in a bit :)
