View Full Version : When you wish upon (more) ADRs PTR - ITINERARY ADDED 5/11

Hi :wave2:

Well I must admit I've been a bit of a lurker on the UK TR board. I've really enjoyed reading everyone else's, but been a bit lazy in doing my own. NO MORE - so here's my very first PTR (or TR for that matter :lmao:) Be gentle with me :goodvibes

So before I start I'll just give a bit of background (feel free to skip if you want).
My name's Catherine :wave2: and I'm 23 (fast hurtling towards 24, at which point I'll be in my mid-twenties ) Anyhoo, I live with my parents due to the massive student debt I have and I'm currently on my way to qualifying as a solicitor. In fact I just started my new job this week
My parents love FL/ WDW as much as me (well almost as much :rotfl:) and we've just come back from the trip we took at Easter. He's a little pic of us on TT (we're the crazy dudes in the front row - yes that's me pulling the face :p):
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff117/Caty2312/WDW%20Easter%2009/DSCN2316.jpg

While we were over there we already started looking at the possiblity of going back later in the year. Then when we got home an offer came up that we just couldn't miss....

The plan... so far:

This unmissable offer is in fact free dining. We've always said we'd love to go during free dining, but in the summer it's just far too hot for any of us. So when the offer came up and it was running right through to December and you could get a free upgrade to Saratoga Springs, it was too good to miss :rolleyes1

We priced it up for a week, with the plan of staying a week offsite at the Blue Heron in LBV (where we stayed for part of our Easter hol.), but when you factored in the free dining, it actually worked out quite a bit cheaper to stay the full 2 weeks at SSR :upsidedow

So here's what we've booked:

14 nights at Saratoga Springs with free DDP and 14 day ultimate ticket through DisneyUK. We'll be there from 14th November and we check out 2 weeks later on the 28th November.
For three adults that worked out at just over 2,000, which including all the food, accomodation, ticket and parking charges in WDW etc. is a great deal!

We've got no flights at the moment, but we're thinking about booking some in the current Virgin flight sale.

We live about 30-40mins away from Manchester airport, so we always fly from there. Also, my Dad has a leg condition which makes him prone to DVTs, so we tend to fly direct so it's less time on the plane for him. So, all-in-all that makes us pretty restricted on where we can fly from and who we can fly with and it ends up really just being the one and only option of Virgin.

As for car hire, we toyed with the idea of not having a car for at least part of the holiday, but decided we enjoy being able to get around without the use of buses/ taxis too much not to have one. For the past few trips we've either had a full-size 4 door or SUV, so that's what we'll be looking to hire.

On to the actual holiday. Well, we'll have a lot of adr's to make! We're also thinking of doing a few shows/ signature meals that we wouldn't normally do without the DDP.

As for tickets, we've got the Disney Ultimate ticket, but I'm also thinking of buying us all Seaworld tickets as it's my Mum's favourite park and we haven't managed to go since 2005. We're also going to do a few non-Disney days and visit Mount Dora, Daytona and even perhaps St. Augustine.

Well, that's all the planning for now - hope you enjoyed my first installment and I'll keep updating y'all :)

Great start Catherine. I was in the legal profession 'in a past life' - got fed up defending criminals for a living so I got out of it.

Ok so we've taken the plunge and booked our flights  The Virgin sale at the moment was just too good to pass up. Originally, we looked at doing Miles plus money, but the sale actually works out at about 40 per person cheaper, at just over 1,000 for the three of us!

So we've booked 3 economy seats on the 13.30 flight from Manchester and we booked the earlier return flight of 18.30. We managed to reserve seats 42ABC which we've had before. I was so glad we could reserve some not as far to the back of the plane like we were last trip, as it was really HOT back there

Also, another little update, I've taken the plunge and bought TourGuideMike. Although I've got this yr's Passporter and Birnbaums (yes, I do overdose on guidebooks!), I thought seen as we're going over Thanksgiving and spending 2 weeks onsite, I'd go the whole hog and be a total uber-planner :rolleyes1
At first glance it seems very good - lots of interesting articles and planning tips to read :thumbsup2

I think the next step is to get a Fairfax card and start loading up some $$. Anybody got any predictions on the Dollar rate...anyone :rotfl2:

Right that's it for now, thanks for reading my ramblings :)

I always join TourGuide Mike just for the Least Crowded Parks Charts and they've never failed us.

I predict that by the time you go it will be 1 = $3

Wow - $3 to the sounds very good - to be honest though with that predition, I'm not surprised to hear that your financial expert credentials are lacking  ;)

It'd be nice to get $1.70 or $1.80, but I'm not holding my breath ;)

I know how you feel. It seems a bit silly with all that's going on in the world but I'm currently in a Coral Reef/ Teppan Edo/ San Angel Inn/ Nice Dragons debate... and I can't even make the ADR's for another 3 months :faint:

ADR picking is def my favourite part of the planning too - and the ones you've got in mind are definitely places I like the sound of :)

So you're in Med Neg? It sounds like you're enjoying it. I worked as a Med Neg paralegal years ago and loved it.

Do you have a training contract lined up yet?

:lmao: I know exactly what you mean! I have been debating & changing my ADR's since last August when I booked. :rotfl2:

The way I see it (or pretend to myself :teeth:) why I am spending sooo much time looking at menus is because it's free dining & i think once they are booked I will have little or no chance to change any.....therefore I want to get them right before I can book them in June......well that's my excuse & I am sticking to it. ;)

Just a little update to add :cool1:

Well peeps, I've taken the plunge and ordered my Fairfx card :yay: I got it through a link on another Disney site, so the card was free. I've just loaded a "modest" amount at the moment, but thought I should get the ball rolling as the $$ rate is so good at the moment (well, compared to what it was earlier in the year)!

Also, we've been thinking long and hard about what ADR's we want to make and we've decided on a provisional list:

Ohana (dinner)
Le Cellier (dinner)
Chefs De France (dinner)
Tusker House (lunch)
Cape May Cafe (dinner)
Kona Cafe (dinner)
Biergarten (lunch) - hopefully for the Candlelight package
Boma (breakfast)
Boma (dinner) - for Thanksgiving
Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner)
Spirit of Aloha
California Grill
1900 Park Fare (breakfast)

We've been to Boma, Biergarten, Ohana and Tusker House before, but none of the others. So what do you all think?
We wanted to do 2 signature meals and split the rest between buffets, family style and a la carte, but we had problems pinning them all down, as all the food looks sooooo yummy!!

The others that we've debated are:
1900 Park Fare (dinner)
Coral Reef
Teppan Edo
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Hoop-De-Doo Revue

Can't wait to hear all the August/ September free diners' reviews popcorn::

Of course now there's the problem of fitting the meals around the park hours/ EMH  Who knew planning a WDW vacation could be so complicated :rotfl2:

Have a great weekend everyone

Nice ADR list :)

I'd love to try Teppan Edo

Hi

I've just had a look at both the Jiko and Narcossee's menus and the food pics :cloud9: Narcossees does look really lovely and I'm definitely mulling that over as an alternative to Cali Grill. I've heard fab things about Jiko, but my Mum isn't a fan of spicy food at all and the menu seems quite adventurous. We do love Boma though, so we'll give it a thought.

With Teppan Edo, I know it's a funny question but does it get very hot and uncomfortable being that close to the grill? :scared1:

Thanks for reading :)

Well, after months of waiting, debating (and quite often, salivating!) I've now booked the majority of my ADR's.

I was on the online system at 10.30am this morning waiting for my window to open up at 11.01am! :thumbsup2

I managed to get all the ressies I wanted and only had to alter the times on a couple by a few minutes. :thumbsup2

Here's what I got:
15/11 (day after arrival) - Boma breakfast @ 9.45am
16/11 - Kona Cafe @ 6.15pm
17/11 - Cape May Cafe @ 6.10pm
18/11 - Tusker House @1.20pm
19/11 - Le Chefs De France @ 6.30pm
20/11 - Coral Reef @ 5.30pm
21/11 - Spirit of Aloha cat 2 @ 8pm
22/11 - Liberty Tree Tavern @ 5.05pm
23/11 - Le Cellier @ 6.45pm
24/11 - Ohana @ 6.45pm

:worship:

Now all I've got to make is:
25/11 - Cali Grill dinner
26/11 - Boma dinner (for Thanksgiving)
27/11 - I'm hoping for the Candlelight Package at Biergarten/ Chefs or Le Cellier. If not, 1900 Park Fare (dinner)
28/11 - 1900 Park Fare brekkie (on our check-out day)

I'm excited now like you wouldn't believe! :cool1:

For anyone making there ADR's in the next few days/ weeks, I found the online system super easy - my 10 day window came up dead on 11.01am once I'd retrieved my reservation. It was getting my US reservation number a few weeks ago that was the trial - I've never had as many long, vacant pauses during a telephone conversation :lmao:

Oh and I want to say a big thanks to Rascal1003 for spotting the Netflights price drop - we booked this morning and saved 70 compared to the previous offers we'd seen. We've booked a full size 4dr with Dollar and then we'll see what kind of upgrade "offers" they mention at the desk. Also, thanks to Netty - added bonus of 5% Quidco :)

Now it's onto itinerary planning! ;)

Tink2312
08-22-2009, 06:21 AM
Well, after some availability problems I've done a few swapsies with my ressies:

15/11 (day after arrival) - Boma breakfast @ 9.45am
16/11 - Kona Cafe @ 6.15pm
17/11 - Boma @ 6.15pm
18/11 - Tusker House @1.20pm
19/11 - Le Chefs De France @ 6.30pm
20/11 - Coral Reef @ 5.30pm
21/11 - Spirit of Aloha cat 2 @ 8pm
22/11 - Liberty Tree Tavern @ 5.05pm
23/11 - Le Cellier @ 6.45pm
24/11 - Ohana @ 6.45pm
25/11 - Cali Grill @ 7.40pm
26/11 - Cape May Cafe @ 6.30pm
27/11 - Le Cellier @ 6.45pm
28/11 - lunch @ either Grand Floridian Cafe or Raglan Road

The only thing that I'm really bummed about is the Candlelight Package being 2TS credits this year. I really wanted to do Biergarten for the package, but no way am I using 2TS on that!! Shame on Disney is all I can say - it won't be long until all the restaurants in the Fant! package are 2TS :scared1:

Well, thats the plan so-far although itll probably change when we get there (usually does).

So what do you think? Ive been using TourGuideMike and Ridemax to form my plans (although I have gone against TGMikes suggestions in some cases:rolleyes1). I know people dont normally recommend EMH (evenings in particular), but we love them. Weve rarely found them to be quiet, but I just love the atmosphere and except a jam-packed EPCOT EMH evening this March, Ive always managed to get done all the rides I wanted to

One thing Im thinking from the plans that well probably be left with quite a few CS credits as its quite normal for us to eat brekie in the room before we head out and then split 2 CS meals (without desserts) between the 3 of us in the park and then eat dinner offsite. Itll be interesting to see how we do with DDP. I certainly dont want to over-order on food and then throw it away - Id rather buy a few meals for strangers in the parks or just leave unused credits then let food needlessly go to waste.

By the way, if anyone has any suggestions on how to use leftover credits, both CS and snack theyd be welcome -are there certain foods for example that you buy to eat on the plane/ bring home??

Well, hope you enjoyed the update (if anyone is reading my ramblings that is:lmao:) and happy planning to anyone going soon also.:cool1:

Are you planning on going to a water park or just going round the pool.

Your plan sounds like mine normally do - and if you change it, it doesn't even matter - the fun is in just making one!!:)

Thanks!

We don't often do waterparks anymore, particularly now we stay onsite more often - the pools are like mini-waterparks. Also, I prefer Typhoon Lagoon over Blizzard Beach, but TL is closed this winter for it refurb.

I think my plan also depends very much on the weather - it's not much fun going around WDW in the rain (much better than the UK in the rain tho :rolleyes1), so if we get some bad weather, I can swap some things around.
