I have the podcast on pause right now- as ya'll are talking about Baby Ferris (did I spell that right?) and I just want to say that Ferris is SOO BLESSED to have received such amazing and wonderful parents.
Whenever I hear about these things, I offer praise up to Heaven for making a perfect match. I truly believe that children are matched to their parents and that it then is up to the parents to do right by their children and I couldn't imagine more big-hearted, happy, loving parents for your baby than the two of you.
May God bless you all in continued health, happiness, and love.

I couldn't agree more, I paused it too and called my husband immediately. I am a special education teacher and have been BLESSED by all of my students with Down syndrome over the years. Ferris is truly blessed to have such wonderful parents who are doing everything to help him be the best he can be. The sky is the limit for Ferris with parents who believe in him. I have watched students with Down syndrome succeed in so many aspects of life, from graduation, prom queen, swimming accross the English Channel, the list goes on and on. I know it will be difficult at times for sure but I am confident that you are strong enough to endure and Ferris is so lucky to have the two of you!

I absolutely agree with EVERYTHING the previous posters have said. And I also wanted to affirm something that you already know: none of this changes the fact that you have a BEAUTIFUL baby. Seriously, your pictures speak for themselves. I'm so happy that you three have each other.

i think the OP is right- i think kids are matched to parents- and God only gives us what he knows we can handle. Obviously he knows the great love and support you will provide little Ferris, and the love he will provide you.
So happy to hear he is in good health and just growing like a weed! A close friend of ours is a very successful and happy 40yo young woman with Downs and has lived life fuller than most of us! :goodvibes
and i must say, your strength truly shows in how you quickly educated yourselves given that this was a surprise.
I cannot wait to meet you guys and little Ferris. I know firsthand what little miracles all children are and the sky is truly the limit as another poster said.:wizard:

Corey and I knew there would be a great outpouring of love and support for Ferris, as well as for us. Thanks to all of you who have posted for your kind words.
We know that we are truly blessed to have such a perfect little angel in our family. As I watch him sleep I am overcome with all the joy and love I have because of him. We are so happy to be his parents and both of us are absolutely smitten with our beautiful baby boy!
There have been so many changes since he was born! Ferris laughs, smiles, coos and loves to watch our faces. He loves to be sung to and his Dad and Grandma make these adorable bird noises that catch his attention no matter what else is going on. He is such a hard worker and I revel in each and every little milestone!
Thanks again for the love and support! :goodvibes

I know what I say will just be a repetition of what everyone else has said, Ferris is truly blessed to have such great parents.
I work with children, and adults, with Down's Syndrome, and they are lovely, warm, loving and kind people, even those who have had to have heart ops at a very early age have this amazing spark to them, even though they have been through so much. I work especially with one little girl who is just so adorable and is just such a sweetheart, I know her parents wouldn't have her any other way. Even through the rough times (she has had some real issues toilet training, but its getting closer and closer!) she can't help but make me smile! All children come with their own challenges, but they also come with their own brilliant quirks and loveable qualities!
All you seem to be doing for Ferris is going to be so beneficial to his future. I wish you all the best and future happiness with you beautiful baby boy, and keep us posted! I would love to know what you guys are up to, and how he's progressing.

My oldest brother was born with severe mental disabilities, so children with special needs have always held a special place in my family's hearts! When times were tough, my dad always said that God choose our family for Danny because He knew we were strong enough to handle it and had all of the love to give.
These children are beyond precious, and fortunately, there are so many resources available today to help them and the parents. It sounds like you both are already getting involved in local groups and are getting lots of love and support. Through our involvement with local organizations and getting to know other families, we have seen first hand children with Down's grow up, finish school, get jobs, have relationships, and lead full, independent lives! :goodvibes
My best wishes to you both and to little Ferris! God truly gave him the best parents possible!!

Parents are so important to a childs life, and I'm thankful for mine everyday. Julie I cant add much but listening to the podcast I could hear so much love coming from you and Corey. Ferris is a very special angel and has two very special parents. My SIL is downs and she just turned 40 with me. She is such a joy to be around, she is always happy, and loves to see us. My sister works with Downs Adults and we both volunteer for the special olympics every year. You and Corey will have so much fun watching him grow and become a man. Nothing like it I say. I just waited way to long; 12 years before we became parents. Enjoy every day to the fullest.

With a name like that I'm sure he'll have a magnetic personality. :lmao:
I do a lot or work with the ACS and have encountered a lot of kids suffering with cancer. I am always amazed at how the parents are able to step up to the plate and cope. I feel the same way when I read the wish trip reports. Like a PP said it seems that kids with special needs, whatever they may be, seem to be paired with the parents that are able to cope and are equipped for the challenge. Hopefully that came out right, I'm not trying to make comparisons between down syndrome and cancer, just the unique challenges parents of these kids have to face.

I just wanted to add my support and well wishes. It warms my heart to know how lucky Ferris is to have the most amazing and loving parents. I am a single mom of a daughter with learning and motor disabilites. While there are certainly challenging days I feel blessed to have her (and my son as well) in my life. She has taught me much more than I ever thought I could learn. Seeing the challenges she faces on a daily basis drove me to going back to school to get my degree in Special Education.
I am so glad tha Ferris has such compassionate parents to be there to advocate for him. Knowledge is power and it certainly seems like Julie and Corey have that covered. Best of luck to you on this amazing journey.

Thanks for sharing about Ferris. We know quite a few people with children who have Downs. One of my former co-workers had twins for her third pregnancy- one with Downs and one without. She said something that I will always remember.
When you have a typical baby, the doctors don't tell you all the things your child may not do and all the limitations they might have: your child may get held back in the first grade, may never get a date in high school, may not pass the SATs and get into college, may be addicted to drugs, may move into your basement and live with you in their 30's, etc. You receive your little bundle of joy without any notion of who they will be become and what they will do.
You have no way of knowing what the future holds, and watching your child amaze you is one of the biggest joys of being a parent. Yours is no different. Ferris has an amazing life ahead of him and parents that love him. He is so blessed!

I have attempted to imagine how my wife and I would react with the news of Ferris' diagnosis of Down's syndrome and come away in awe of your strength. I am so proud of both of you.
It is also great that Ferris has so many wonderful Godmothers (Pete, Walter, Kevin and John) ;) to support you!
Quoted for truth...
God Bless all of you guys -

Corey & Julie,
I really couldn't say anything more heartfelt than what has already been said. So many of the posts here have brought tears to my eyes as well. I also believe that special children are placed with special people. The Higher Power (whomever you believe that is) does have a say in who goes where. I've seen so many examples of that in my own life.
I wish nothing but love and happiness in your life with your beautiful son. He'll be a treasure in so many ways!
ps. I have to say though that when you said you had an announcement, I thought you were going to say you were pregnant again. It happens...:cutie:

Congratulations on the birth of your little one!
My mom taught down syndrome babies and children for her entire career as a speech/language therapist. Even though she's been retired for many years now, and she is a busy lady with lots on her plate, she goes back to her old school and works/helps every spring because she loves spending time with those kids kids so much! So that shows you something about how wonderful she found them to be.
I know from years & years of hearing her talk about her work that when the kids have loving, attentive parents it makes all the difference... you are off to a great start!!
:sunny:
I just wanted to say how lucky Ferris is, and wish you all the best.:hug::hug:
Parenthood is the greatest challenge in life but also the most rewarding.
All the best to your family of 3!

We had a Mommy/Baby outing today to DTD. I was shopping at Tren-D for Taylor's bday presents and he was a perfect angel! :cloud9: I love all the attention he gets when we are out and about!

Such a proud little Mama, and deservedly so! I love it, so cute! :lovestruc
How fun, btw. I LOVE that store!! Even more so for the decor than just the merchandise. We have a new store here at DL with a similar feel and merchandise, the Fortuosity shop on Main St. It's really cute, it's just much, much smaller and a bit more Victorian (because of the previous store's theming). Hopefully you'll get to see it this June ;)

I'm sure everyone agrees, but its our pleasure! Each child is special and each day we get to spend with them is just as special. I really think the love we have for a child is unmatched and unexplainable. It sounds like you really understand that and understand how truly blessed you are in life. I can't wait to meet you, Corey and Ferris. Oh and show you what a really cute 4 yo girl looks like. She is the cutest one on the planet by far!! (4 yo that is)

Julie and Corey...I want to add something that I don't think has been said, your fun is only beginning! You think you love that little Ferris now...just wait.:lovestruc..that love grows every single day!! Children are just the most beautiful part of life, and as he continues to grow and his personality develops more and more...I just don't think there is really a way to describe it but at 4 months (?) you've probably already realized that little Ferris is going to bring you joy, but trust me....just when you think you think you are going to burst with love for that child...that love doubles...it's amazing. I'm just so happy for you and the adventure you are beginning.

Prices are not bad at all. There are some expensive items, but overall it is no more than any where else on property. Have fun shopping!

I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but after reading these posts, I wanted to send you guys a hug. You are truly blessed, and I can only say I'm in agreement with everyone else who've posted on this thread.
Corey and Julie I have to admit I was away so I have podcasts to catch up on and this is one of them. Reading through the thread I can see the news that you shared with us. I know our situations are not exactly the same, but as a mom of three kids with "challenges" (on the autistic spectrum), I can say when I first got the news that my children were not going to be like "typical" kids I was overwhelmed and admitedly sad. Then I got to thinking what the heck is "typical" anyway??? I love my kids more than anything in the world (I have 4)- and I wouldn't change them if ever given the chance. Part of what others would call challenges are what make them beautifully wonderful!! My children will make a mark on this world far greater than those who diagnosed them ever expected- they already have. Ferris will do the same. With the love and support of his parents , which is so evident every time you speak of him and the love and supprt of your families and friends he will do amazing things- and I know I don't have to tell you that. Things won't always be easy, you already know that, but being a parent isn't always easy, but it is always rewarding because as much as we believe in our kids, they will always surprise us by doing far much more than even we ever expected!
Thank you for sharing this news with us but most of all thank you for sharing Ferris with us!! I look forward to watching him grow into the wonderful man that he will become. You are giving us all a great gift by sharing your gift of Ferris with us all!

I just wanted to add my congratulations on having that wonderful, sweet, baby Ferris. He is truly blessed to have such terrific parents and I know you both feel blessed too.
I have two special needs sons and know that the road ahead will not always be easy, but nothing in life ever is. I wouldn't have my children any other way, well except I wish the oldest wouldn't have such a smart mouth but I'm afraid he comes by that naturally:)
Enjoy that wonderful angel, they grow up too fast.

As Ferris grows up, I know he will overcome any obstacle that might be in his path. This is because he has such postive and loving parents who have an overwhelming amount of love in their hearts. Your attitude is fantastic. :)

Julie,
Thank you for sharing the news about Ferris with all us listeners. You must know that everyone who listens loves all of you and when you have a challenge, a joy, a fear, a sadness, we all experience that also. In this instance we are all celebrating that Baby Ferris has you and Corey as parents because we know he will be loved and given the best of care and he will grow to be a wonderful young man because of your love and support. Can't wait to meet you all on the cruise!

Hi Julie and Corey,
I just read some of the posts and wanted to tell you as a parent of a special needs child. We are chosen for our children :) We are very blessed and I am sure you know this. I have been told lots of time God picked me to have Bradley because he knew I could handle it and I can. I am very happy for the both of you and all the years of joy and blessings to come. Our children are angels on earth.
