Hello and Good Morning!!

It's a cool rainy day here again :umbrella: I'm waiting for the workmen to arrive to install 3 new windows, one in my dining area and two in my kitchen. This will finally be the last of the window replacements :thumbsup2 I'm really excited to be getting them done. I haven't been able to open these old windows for years. Of course, now that the old blinds and curtains are down in preparation, I think I'll need to go shopping for some nice new ones! What's everyone else up to today?

Anybody celebrating Earth Day with something special? The company I work for has gone "bagless" starting today. We are encouraging everyone to use plastic bins and reusable bags, but plastic bags can still be purchased for 5 cents each. Part of that cost will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund, Canada.

I'm here.

So, about 3:15 they decide we can go home early...SURE...the day I have a haircut appointment at 6PM DOWNTOWN (sort of). So...I can play on the computer without feeling like I'm being naughty.

I looked at trip insurance...see a good deal through TruTravel (Nationwide) for $102. I'll probably go with that one, but won't book till I'm back home in a few weeks...or possibly while I'm in Chicago with Dianne. :confused3

well....off to look for a trip report to read.....

well that's good, but I've done it lots of time so I can't tease you too much for that. Sadly Molly hasn't left her last 4 teeth and I'm not sure if she has decided not to believe or if she doesn't want to break the tooth fairy bank :confused3 Our fairy gives just a few dollars, always in coins and I have them, so I'm just not sure what the issue is. I think I'll have to use my spy with Wilson technique to get to the bottom of this mystery.

I worked on a digital photo album of PC cruise today. I'm almost done with it. I think I can post a link when I'm finished so hopefully it will be soon :thumbsup2

What's up for everyones weekend?

We are having a potluck pizza dinner with friends tomorrow night, then movies for the girls and arcade place for the boys. Paul and I are taking the boys, then sleepover again we have the boys. Then little league game, on Sat and Sunday Paul and Willie are going to the track to practice. Not sure that Molly and I doing anything that day. Also have to take my car to the shop Saturday. The AC isn't working in the back. Can't figure out why :confused3 Hope it will be covered under waranty :yay:

Welcome to Friday!
Your Gateway to the Weekend!

Sort of a busy-ish weekend ahead for us and sort of crappy for me.

This is our last weekend before our trip, so we are of course very busy. On the crappy side, is Sunday, not only do I work in the morning but, about a week ago it was announced that there will be an upgrade to the WW software, and given that I leave on vacation, the only day I can do training is Sunday, from 4 pm to 7 pm. So, I get home at about 1:00 pm and have to head back at about 3:30. So I only get a couple of hours to myself on Sunday. Just bad timing. If I don't get trained now, I can't work when I come back, not until I'm trained.

As a result, ALL of the shopping and packing for the trip has to be done on Saturday. But, this will just make us be super efficient on Saturday!

On the plus side ... I only work in my office 2 days next week. I'm attending a conference in town, from Wednesday to Friday and Cheri arrives on Wednesday. So it looks like vacation time is fast approaching.

Just in time. We both need one right now!

I am working for another CM at Caribbean Beach Resort tomorrow AM because SHE gets to go on the 7 night Eastern cruise! Then tomorrow night we are playing BUNCO at friend's house, then on Sunday there's a big celebration here at the downtown area of Hunter's Creek with music and entertainment and stuff.....also Celebration is having it's Pie Festival.

So much to do,so little time! Good thing I don't believe in cleaning house:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::chee r2:

So, have any of you guys been playing with the stuff in the profiles? You can leave messages there for someone, you can see who has looked at your profile recently...saw a couple interesting things there....you can have 'friends'. I don't know how you get notified of the messages in your profile. These messages are of a "WALL" nature and can be seen by anyone checking your profile.

Ian....you have a message in yours if you didn't know....

I sent out a couple 'friends' request to check it out. I don't even know what the significance of that list is. Looks like they are making the DIS more 'facebook-like' in some regards.

Ian, what a busy time! Busy, but exciting! :goodvibes

Oh, and one more thing, today, the temperature in Chicago is supposed to reach a high of 84F!
HOLY COW! Did it get to 84? We hit 81 and I was quite shocked because YESTERDAY I had to scrape my car windows and it was below freezing in the morning. Schizophrenic weather.

I am enjoying a 1-point beer and having guinea pig fun! While I cleaned his cage after work, I stuck him in a laundry basket (with a thick towel under him) with a little treat and draped a smaller towel over a corner. He was moving all around under that towel and eventually pulled it down on himself. I lifted a corner and peeked in at him and he was just lying there. Seemed to like being under there, so I left him there about a 1/2 hour. Then when I put him back in his clean cage, he was running laps again just like last time I cleaned it. Silly little rodent! Then he discovered the mirror I put just outside the cage and I think he thinks he has a friend now. He'd run up to it, stop and look for a second and race back and forth a couple times and repeat Too funny! I'm having so much fun with this little guy, I plan on upgrading to a much bigger cage and getting a 2nd guinea so they can play together. (Another boy, of course...we certainly don't want babies!). :thumbsup2

It doesn't seem possible to be able to lose weight with Weight Watchers because I feel like I'm eating so much. Only time will tell, I suppose.

It's not about the volume but what the volume consists of. Filling foods are naturally going to be higher in volume, but much lower in points, which is why they are such great values. They fill you up.

I would not worry so as you are staying within your points.

iankh
04-25-2009, 06:59 AM

It's a lifestyle change, it doesn't have to be about deprivation.

Deprivation doesn't work because it can't be sustained. Eventually it leads to rebellion.

The key is to allow some points for treats but not to use too many of them on "empty points."

WW did 3 years of research and test trials before Momentum was launched. They studied successful members and struggling members.

The studied showed that both groups understood the concept of points and how to calculate them.

The key difference between the two groups was the way they managed their points. The struggling members, though staying in their point target, used more points on foods that did not satisfy their hunger (candy etc, and were often hungry).

The successful members tended to choose foods that offered the biggest bang for the the point buck, stretched out their points, avoided being hungry by using filing foods, and managing their feelings of deprivation, by planning in favorite foods.

This week at work something very ironic happened, while working on a workers' compensation claims project, I went to HR to file a potential workers' compensation issue.

Beginning around Tuesday, I started to experience pins & needles in my fight hand and pain shooting up my right arm, over and around my shoulder and down my back and side.

It got so bad on Thursday, that by 4 pm, I could not use my right hand and had to move my trackerball with my left hand. When I got home, I couldn't even open a jar.

Our risk control guy visited me and my desk is being redone, to change my set up,

My hand and are are still rather painful, but given that for most of the coming week, I won't be at work and then on vacation, I'm hoping it will go away.

On the plus side, from this project, I'm now familiar with state workers' compensation forms in 23 states.

You know? I had these symptoms before our Lanzarote vacation in February. I am on this laptop a lot, and have a mouse on the chair arm beside me. I didn't like the pins and needles at all and as you said the pain up the arm, It took me some time to realise what it was.

Fortunately the rest away from the computer eased it, so I hope it does the same for you. Now I try not to be on as much or hold the mouse as much.

Fortunately the rest away from the computer eased it, so I hope it does the same for you. Now I try not to be on as much or hold the mouse as much.

Yeah sure. Bet when I come home nobody comes running....

This is why puppy dogs are so great, they ALWAYS come running! (Wait till the girls are teenagers...you'll have to hunt them down behind closed doors.)

Isn't 42 days of holiday just a teensy bit ostentatious, and perhaps more than a little greedy?

They're trying to beat Woody's record!

Kathe,
Most the grocery stores in my town are pushing the reusable bags. Our Save On foods doesn't charge for using plastic bags, but you earn reward points for using reusable bags or reusing your plastic bags. I really like the reusable bags, because they hold more and don't tip over :cool1:

Have a good night, I'm off to curl up in bed and watch Numbers :happytv:
I really like the reusable bags too. But if I used them for groceries, I'd have to buy plastic bags anyway for garbage. :headache:

Good morning Ken.

What happens when you freeze them? I think I froze mine last September in La Gomera as it was sooooooooo hot and I thought it would be good!!!:rolleyes1 Won't it work now? Sorry.

Oh, this time it will happen.

You probably could freeze them... obviously the crystals that are out in my garden freeze... I think it breaks the crystals down - the tie gets very hard. Keep it in the fridge and you should be ok and just "recharge" it with some ice water later... :thumbsup2

& I certainly hope it happens this time!!! ;)

It's not about the volume but what the volume consists of. Filling foods are naturally going to be higher in volume, but much lower in points, which is why they are such great values. They fill you up.

I would not worry so as you are staying within your points.
Makes sense, but still seems too good to be true. I would never have thought losing weight would be this easy! Monday is my weigh in day, so wish me luck! Not sure I'd see any results in only a week, but even one pound would make me happy. :goodvibes

Thanks Ian, makes sense. I did splurge at the end of the day two times, but was never hungry, just wanted a couple treats and had extra points. So I should be OK then. :thumbsup2

Oh, welcome to my world! The attorneys I work for are work comp attorneys.

I hope changing the set up at your desk takes care of the problem. Sorry you're having this pain. Hopefully being on vacation will give your body the rest it needs and you can start with a new set up when you return. Did you make a doctor appointment to get checked out?

Hello, I'm here, for a minute. I have Brooke's first campout with girl scouts. We'll see how it goes.

Shannon, I hope the girls get better so they can come running when Ken gets home ;)

Holly, I'm glad the points are working for you. I've decided to join online because I can't make the meetings. We'll see how that goes. I'll keep you all updated. I haven't gained any of the weight back that I lost so I'm happy about that. Now to lose some more.

Deborah and Marilyn, I miss you too. I just can't get on as much anymore. Maybe tomorrow will be a lazy day. Marilyn have fun on your trip.

Michelle, good luck for whatever it is.

And I'm sure there is more but I'm lost so I'll try and catch up with you all tomorrow.

Ohhhh Sweetie... welcome to my H E L L....

you're bothering one of your nerves. (probably Carpal Tunnel...)

I on the other hand have nerve impingements. (in other words MY nerves are already stuck in scar tissue...) (I had 6 surgeries to get rid of what I could...)

It sort of feels like pins and needles and if it feels like you hit your funny bone, then it's the ulnar nerve. Which fingers did you feel it and what side of the arm can you feel it? Front, back top of the fingers? Believe it or not... I killed all 3 major nerves in my right arm. I have that pain every day. From my finger tips up to my neck.

Trick is to catch it early and often.

Best thing is to ice it on the palm side of the wrist.... Do not leave it on if it starts to hurt - too much exposure. Also ice where ever it is hurting on the rest of the arm.

Also.. you might want to make sure you have a good wrist pad (gel) for your computer. I use one with the mousepad attached to the gel pad. (Belkin - Amazon has it...)

There are also excercises... I will look it up and post them... they are just simple stretching (I do them without thinking...) but they help.

AND... take some Tylenol, Motrin... an anti inflamatory... take it for a couple of days. It will also help.

Hope that helps... let me know if you need anything else...

AND....

Go to CVS or whatever pharmacy and go to the area where they have the ace bandages and get 2 kinds of braces (splints) ... both are for hands... (they should have one that is interchangeable...) One is hard the other is soft. Wear the hard one for a couple of hours during the day - even when you are typing... and the soft one at night when you are sleeping.

When it bothers me... I will wear my braces for a couple of days and the pain will ease up or go away (the increased pain.. not the ones I have all the time...)

It will make a difference and bring them on the plane with you to FL... flying can make you swell a bit and any swelling in your hands especially from the heat and carrying your luggage will bother your hands too... I have them with me just in case. All it will do is rest the area. BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT!!!

That and changing your set up at work will work wonders...

My Dr... Dr. James Hunter was a world known hand specialist... he took care of everyone including Artist Andrew Wyeth and alot of pro atheletes. He was also a musician. One time one of the pianists from the symphany in Philly came to see him thinking she has serious problems and that her career might be over. He came to see her play and discovered that she wasn't sitting at a correct height and it affected her posture. They raised the bench up a couple of inches and she wore splints while resting and her problems went away.

Somehow I double-posted, so I'll just have to change this one.

I managed to get through Costco today, twice. I bought some shorts, brought them home and decided I didn't like them, so I returned them.

We are nearly all packed for the trip, just some last minute stuff to pack on the day, such as the coffee we bring with us (we like the brand we buy) and the last of Sukie's mustache implements.

Packing was not nearly as nerve wracking as it tends to be, we only had 37 arguments in the process rather than our usual 91. That's nearly a 2/3 reduction.

My only remaining tasks are charging/conditioning all of the camera batteries, that should take up the remaining 5 days before we leave.

Spring is over.

It was a very warm day here in the upper '70's.

I was outside a little while ago and it was really warm and humid. I ran out to the drugstore to pick up some stuff for the trip. It was raining, but nothing severe. They didn't have what I wanted so I decided to walk over about 6 blocks to another drugstore.

During my walk, it sudden felt like someone had turned on the air conditioning. At first there were little bursts of cold air and then WHOOSH! It sudden got rather chilly, all in the space of about 7 minutes.

I was out in just a t-shirt.

I did find what I wanted but then had about a 12 block walk home. I think it must have dropped from about 75 to 50 degrees in that space of 8 minutes or so.

Ian, I hope your arm is better soon  There are a lot of common repetitive injuries these days. I have had carpal tunnel since my early 20's. I finally had surgery on both wrists, one last summer and the other the summer before that. Oh my gosh, what an improvement. It used to wake me up all night (now other things wake me up all night ) and cause a lot of pain during the day. My hands would go numb all of the time. You can't even see the scars from the surgeries and I am really pleased with the results, although I'm not usually someone who would opt for this route. I was really afraid of the surgery and put it off for many years. So...the last two summers I had a month and a bit off work...sure wish I had a third hand :rotfl:

Oh my gosh, my splurge today was a Red Baron french bread pepperoni pizza. I just finished it. Yummy!!!! It really hit the spot. :goodvibes

I sort of cheated and weighed myself at my friends house earlier tonight. My weigh in day is Monday, but she wanted me to weigh today to prove to me this is going to work. I don't want to get excited though, because her scale isn't the one I usually weigh on, and could be calibrated a bit differently, so I'm going to wait until I'm on my usual scale on Monday before I get excited. :thumbsup2

It was really good, especially since I haven't had one in a while. I used to eat them a few times a week but now know they're not a good choice to have too often, but good for a treat once in a while. :goodvibes

I should be cleaning since we're having a friend over tomorrow, and Tyler's dad will be coming inside because Tyler wants to show him the guinea pig. But I just feel too lazy to do it. I'll probably just pick up a few things before and after church, then while Tyler's at scouts tomorrow afternoon I'll do a bit more before his friend comes over.

I think I'm headed to bed. Goodnight all! :cloud9:

Missed my previous post, eh?

You turning Mexicanadian?

That happened to me once at Epcot... I was at Japan having dinner and when I came out a storm front had gone through and the temps dropped - this was back in the 90's and the only place to get a sweatshirt was the two shops at the beginning of WS...I made a run for it and I still have that sweatshirt today... :thumbsup2

I feel much better having had a rest from work. Oddly enough, what really made my arm feel better was carrying groceries back home from the supermarket, using those reusable bag. It's a 5 block walk and I think it sort of stretched out the muscles.

They gave me a new chair at work and ordered a keyboard tray, which will eliminate my needing to reach to my trackball.

I think that vacation will help. No typing for a while, or at least reduced typing.

I recommend that you stick to one scale only and weigh yourself on the same day, same time of day every week. Our weight can fluctuate by as much as 2 pounds during the course of a day.

When I attending meetings (rather than leading them), my day was Sunday mornings. I attended 8:30 AM meetings (different location), and that is the only time I weighed in.

I still weigh myself every Sunday morning, before I start my meetings (after a quick change into gym shorts and a t-shirt in the stock room). I never step on a scale otherwise.

I think that by keeping it regular, I just never drove myself crazy with any unaccountable variances.

The program is designed to produce a maximum loss of 2 pound a week. Though it varies.

Over time, I learned my weight loss pattern, which was not consistent from week to week.

Typically I had a bigger loss, a little over 2 pounds, followed by a week with a small loss, about .2 pounds, followed by no loss or a .5 pound gain, followed by a big loss again. Then the patter would repeat for another 3 weeks.

As I always tell members, track, track, track and the scale will eventually follow the behavior. The scale ALWAY eventually follows the behavior, no matter what the behavior is (as evidenced by my 20 years of progressively gaining weight, followed by getting myself on track and reaching goal).

I'm sure you did GREAT this week.

PS - Avoid having overly salty foods, or salty meals the day before weigh in. Salty food can cause some water retention which could impact results.

Kathe,
Most the grocery stores in my town are pushing the reusable bags.

Plus they are easier to carry. Our targets gave us a 5 cent credit for each reusable bag we used the other day.

We did have to fit in with the warehouseman who took over much of John's work, and the long school summer vacation that sees most of the other workers off at some point, but he can take longer trips now with little problem as our son Andrew is now the boss.

John was just saying last night that these last few vacations have been the most relaxed for him as he wasn't thinking about what was going on at work, or having calls or emails with problems. Andrew is doing a great job.

I had been wondering what was going on to cause such a dramatic change. I asked at my 9:30 am meeting and found out. It's the weather.

The warm weather we've been having has caused people to get out their summer clothing. It has also caused them to find out that they don't fit into their clothing from last summer and so, do something about it.

You are going to have to yell louder than that.....she's in England getting ready to get on a cruise ship. :lmao::lmao:

I'm feeling better....a good night's sleep really helped. Don't know what was going on with the flushed/feverish feeling yesterday. Can't get sick, I have vacation in a week and a half.

FINALLY my WW day from hell is over. I feel like I moved in there, what with being at the center at 6:45 a.m. this morning, coming home for lunch and then going BACK for training.

Fortunately, on the plus side, I picked up a little extra cash and the people were fun.

The cash is gone. I bought Sukie some mini-straightening tongs that are so small they fit into a shaving case. He now has travel sized tongs for his moustache.

You turning Mexicanadian?

That happened to me once at Epcot... I was at Japan having dinner and when I came out a storm front had gone through and the temps dropped - this was back in the 90's and the only place to get a sweatshirt was the two shops at the beginning of WS...I made a run for it and I still have that sweatshirt today... :thumbsup2

Courtesy of my surgeon... my fate line now goes down to the middle of my wrist... :rotfl:

Michelle, my mom has a new fate line too! How long ago was your surgery? What a difference a few years make, now it's a tiny incision, a little camera goes in, a tiny little cut...that was the part I was worried about!

Weather story...mine was at WDW too. Hurricane Wilma :scared1: I had been there for a few days, very hot and muggy, then it began to rain, and rain, and rain. I came out from dinner at Le Cellier and went staight back to my resort. Parks were closed the next morning, but they opened MK and DD by noon. When I ventured out, it was cold! I ended up going and buying a fleece jacket for my night at the MNSSHP at MK. I had been at this party a few nights earlier in a sleeveless top until midnight, without being a bit cold!

Good morning.

Beautiful day here, but the good weather is going tomorrow and it is going to be wet, breezy with odd periods of sunshine - all week. I think I might just fly off to somewhere warmer.;)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Gee...where should you go though :confused3 eh

I feel much better having had a rest from work. Oddly enough, what really made my arm feel better was carrying groceries back home from the supermarket, using those reusable bag. It's a 5 block walk and I think it sort of stretched out the muscles.

They gave me a new chair at work and ordered a keyboard tray, which will eliminate my needing to reach to my trackball.

I think that vacation will help. No typing for a while, or at least reduced typing.

Ian, I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm really impressed that your bosses would work so quickly to improve your environment for you :thumbsup2

Plus they are easier to carry. Our targets gave us a 5 cent credit for each reusable bag we used the other day.

Hi Lisa! We were giving an incentive to use your own bags too for the last few years, but now that we have gone bagless, we aren't paying people to bring their own.

Actually, I am headed up to Lake George... not to sightsee, but to hit the outlet stores and spend money I don't yet have. (I need sneakers badly)

Maybe I'll take my camera anyway...

It was like that here yesterday too. It was weird. Today is beautiful :goodvibes

:scared1: Summer clothing!!! I have two weeks to get in shape:eek:

Of course, I had to stay to help take down tents, clean, supervise...:headache::lmao:

You experienced WW folks probably know about this, but just in case, here's a link a friend shared with me when we were at her house tonight: http://www.dwlz.com/restaurants.html

Tons and tons of restaurants with points figured out for their menus. Not sure how accurate it is though, but it's fun to look things up!

I go there more than WW. They are not aloud to endorse it so Ian would never mention it. I'm inspired by her, even though she has gained weight back. Plus she likes a lot of the same restaurants I do and she tells you how to order your meals.
