I thought since there's a lot going on in the other PI thread, that we could start one exclusively for housing, finding roommates, etc.
I've started to compile a list of apartment complexes and other housing options which I'll post soon.
Since so many people are looking for roomies too, I think if anyone interested wrote what they're looking for living situation wise, that would help- like rent range, how many people, male or female, smoker/nonsmoker- anything relevant! Again, I'll probably post more info on what I'm personally looking for, but I'm supposed to be finishing my psych paper...so when I finish, I'll be back!

My name is Valerie and I'm going to be a plant science intern at Epcot. (Once I get my official call from casting, but I've been told I was selected for the role.)
I'm looking to live with 3-4 other girls, with my own bedroom. I'm 21 and I would feel more comfortable if everyone else was too. I'm looking for a place that is fully furnished, nearby the properties, and less than $500 a month for rent and utilities. I don't smoke, but I don't mind if you do as long as it's outside. I don't need a place that allows pets.
Also I'm interested in roommates that will also work at Epcot so we can possibly carpool at times to cut down on gas costs, but that's not an absolute requirement.

Valerie - have you considered the PI housing through Disney? Based on what you listed I think you'd be in a good position for it (fully furnished, under $500 a month, you'll be seperated from those under 21). Also, by living in the housing you'll be able to take the FREE bus to and from Epcot, which will surely cut down on gas costs.
Just a suggestion if you haven't already considered it.

It's on the bus line? I heard it wasn't for PIs. What's the building called and is there any information on it? Everything I heard about the Disney housing was negative, but I'm willing to consider it.

For the bus you would have to walk over to Chatham which isn't very far from the Patterson Complex. From what I was told Patterson does not run busses.

The OLD PI housing had very negative reviews... but as of this spring they've moved the PIs into CP housing. All PIs are grouped together in the same building (maybe two buildings) at Patterson Court - the newest CP housing unit.
You do have to walk to Chatham to get to the bus... but it's literally a 5 minute walk and is just around the cornor (very secure area). I did the walk all the time and it's really quite a breeze.
Validee
04-19-2009, 09:34 PM
Oh, so the PIs and CPs live together? Do you get your own bedroom, or is it more of a dorm situation?
Berlioz70
04-19-2009, 09:36 PM
No... CPs and PIs live in the same apartment complex, but they are not in the same building and definitely not in the same apartment/room.

Is there anywhere with information about Patterson? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I'm not finding anything.

I'm so glad that u made this thread!!
patterson is the newest disney housing complex.....i lived there last summer during my cp...they do have busses and the walk to the bus stop is very short....there are pros and cons to patterson the pro is all electricity and cable and internet is included in your rent...it would be like an individual lease so if ur roomies dont pay its not all on you....and they are furnished
the cons are that they have strict rules, your not allowed to have visitors after 1 or 2 i cant remember so no over night guests.....also and the main thing for me is you have to share a room....you could have as many as 7 roomates....
patterson is going to be 125 a week so 500 a month....from what ive found a lot of ppl live at coral cay and its like 425 a month including everything....
Validee

Sharing bedrooms is definitely something I want to avoid, so I guess the Disney housing is out of the question. Thanks for the input! After five years of living in the dorms on campus, I really need my own space.

For me, having my own is definitely a priority, but I am open to any size apartment. I'm a non smoker and would prefer non smoking roommates, and I'm 22, so roommates 21 and over would be great.
I'm also planning on staying in FL long term, so if there were others planning on staying in FL after their internships, that would be great, but even short term is fine with me.
Coral Cay does seem to be one of the better options- I really like that a lot of PIs seem to live there.

I live in coral cay now. If offered a PI, i'm going to look to see what else is out there and compare. . .villas @ seven dwarfs lane is like a mile closer to Disney than coral cay. . .and from the floorplans i've seen it's a better setup

Has anyone tried looking for housing on the hub?? I have heard there are sometimes posted in the deals section. I personally have not checked it out, so I was just wondering if anyone else has either.
And for Coral Cay, does anyone know how long the leases are for? If I don't get an internship I am still planning on going back to work for the summer and would need a place for only two or three months.

you should be able to negotiate your own lease with coral cay. we've been doing 6 months at a time.

I lived at Coral Cay during my PI. And one of my best friends lived at the Villas. I definitely preferred the layout of his place at the Villas over mine at Coral Cay :)

I looked on the classified section. They have a section for finding roommates and one for finding housing. I emailed a few people about roommates but it seemed like alot of the places posted were not furnished. I think living with a few PIs at Coral Cay or the Villas sound really nice!

so I went by the villas @ seven dwarfs lane and when I asked about renting, I was given the business card of someone. . .
now, what i found nice is that they have an actual security gate/hut that you have to get past to get in. . .
coral cay's is a facade of security. . .you can tailgate in, or just walk in after dark. and the gate is open all day long. . .
also, validee, it's cheaper NOT to live in the housing disney provides. especially since they raise the rate for PI's. I am a CP living offsite and am paying about what the other CP's are. . .so its definitely better to find roomies and not live in the housing that's provided.
Validee

Yeah, the Disney housing is more than what I'm willing to pay, especially for having to share a bedroom.
What information did you get on the Villas for rates?

I thought you pretty much had to live in their buildings for the CP? If you don't mind me asking, did you start off in their housing and then move offsite? Sorry, it's just if I don't get a PI and end up doing the CP, I'm not sure that I really want to live in a dorm situation. Thanks!

you don't have to live in CP housing as a CP. For a lot of people it's the cheaper option. but for me, I drive my own car anyway, I wanted my own bedroom and it all would've come out to be the same. I lived in CP housing during my first CP, but for this one, I requested to live offsite.
I'm gonna be honest and tell you it's really hard on me personally from a financial standpoint. My bills run me about $1031/month, that includes: rent, car payment, car insurance, & two credit cards(that I am ONLY able to make the minimum payment on, which is really low). and I haven't been making that at all at disney @ 7.21/hr. until 2 or 3 weeks ago, my largest check was for 38 hours. and the last two weeks i've worked 65,& 52 and i've squeezed by. My mom has given me a LOT of money so I wouldn't starve, i can put gas in my car, and I can pay my bills

Has anyone heard anything about Walden Park? It is in Kissimmee and, while not furnished, does have three bedroom units for under 800. It also accepts pets, something I need (if I get accepted). It is income restricted, but come on, we'll be working at Disney. Also, I always check out the reviews and take them with a grain of salt as usually people who leave ratings are disgruntled renters, but this one actually has good ratings! The complaints it does have are not security matters, either, which is my main concern. I'm not sure how far away it is, I figure I'll check that out in the next step, but I thought I'd put it out there and see if anyone knows anything more about it.

if you get a MI, then getting an income based place is going to be out of the question. especially if you want roomies, One place I've looked at in the past that was income based wanted the income of all residents to be under $28k a year for 2 people i think. . .
if the MI's pay $615/week and you do the math, that's like $31k per person a year. . .

That may be a little high... my PI is $11.15 and I bring home $368 after taxes. That's a consistent 40 hour week.

04-21-2009, 05:53 PM
so you figured at 11.15 an hour $368 after taxes and disney lowest rent would be $125 which would leave 243 for anything else. I think I am going to try and get a part time job seeing as my work schedule will only be m-f from 9-5.

Ahhh man, this is my parents biggest complaint about the internship, they hate to see me leave the current job I have that pays good for a Internship! I'm in the same predicament as you lauraebeth, (car payment, 2 credit cards bills, etc.) and luckily I've not had to pay rent since I'm currently living at home now but adding everything up and crunching the numbers... it's getting kinda scary! I guess if it's meant to be and I get the PI, it'll all work out...

I was interested in the PI housing, even though it is kinda expensive, but it is also very close to everything. Who knows, I put my name in for the lottery, but I wouldn't object to maybe having a back-up plan or a better plan... If anyone needs a roommate I'll be glad to help!
Anyways, Good Luck Everyone!

Hey Mallory! I'm Valerie and I'm also going to be doing the plant science internship. Are there any places you have in mind? I'm on a tight budget so I don't want to live anywhere too expensive, and finding a place that's furnished is one of my top priorities. But I'm definitely interested in living with somebody that works the same place so we can cut down on gas.

Hey Validee,
I was thinking about some place within 15min from Disney- perhaps Millenia Mall Apartment area or Belle Isle- both are nice and I am looking for around $400/month budgetwise! As for furniture, I do have tons and cant really affors storage. . . :( but I guess the upside to that would be you wouldnt have to worry about bringing any furniture besides a bed/dresser? I know a lot of apartments in orlando will offer optional furniture upon move-in. Congrats on getting the internship! I have final exams this upcoming week so I was going to begin doing some research next Thursday, Ill let you know what I come across!

Good luck with your final exams. That's all I have left before I graduate. It's exciting and nerve-inducing all at once.
I have no idea how I'd manage to get a bed and a dresser. Does optional furniture cost extra? I understand wanting to keep your own if you can't store it, though.
Do you live near Orlando?

I'm not sure how you feel about this, but craigslist always has a ton of furniture available for quite cheap, if not free - just take a few friends with you to pick things up if you decide to do this:cutie: Or go yardsaling, how fun!

It sounds like kind of a hassle, especially for only 6 months and then trying to sell it again. But if that's my only option, I'll do what I have to.
I'll just see what comes up.

Hey Everyone! I'm ReAnne, 22, just accepted Retail Management PI position (June 19th till Jan 8). I am looking for some roommates, female only/co-ed, it doesn't matter to me. I would like to keep rent around $500-$600/month (less is good too), and to have separate bedrooms. I'm also hoping to find a furnished place...unless someone has furniture of course :) I was looking into Villas @ 7 Dwarfs or something similar perhaps. I'd rather not be too far from Property, but 20/25 mile radius will be okay. If anyone is interested, please PM me or reply! I have plenty of CP roomie references if needed! lol.

(6/19-1/8) On my CP I lived with 7 other roommates and here at school I live with 3 other girls, so I am flexible when it comes to # of roommates. I would like to live within 15-20 miles of property. I would not like to spend more than $600 a month on rent, and since I am driving from PA, a furnished place would be better. I am a non smoker so I would prefer a non smoking apt but I am fine if people want to smoke outside. Thanks, and congrats to everyone else with acceptances!

Im about to interview for CP Education Coordinator, and am starting to look at apts and roommates (just in case!) I don't drive, so I'll be taking the bus, unless a roommate would want to drop me off at Vista on their way (I'd def give you gas money/cookies!) Oh, and I am 22, female, dont care about how many roommates (had 7 on my CP, and 9 people at my home), would def like to keep it under $500 per month (since I still have to pay for my rent up here for 2 more months). I am a good cook, fun and friendly. Oh, and I think I'd prefer a furnished place, as I'm flying down and therefore have limited baggage. Willing to accommodate anything if need be.

I posted a little bit about my place on the other thread but I will do a little more detailed one here. I live in a 3 bed 2 bath condo in Sweetwater Club off the 192 just down the street from Coral Cay and others. It is fully furnished. I am moving out in June when my PI is over and so there will be 2 empty bedrooms, room for 2 girls. There are no pets, no smoking or drinking. It is a nice place and there is a workout room, pool and spa in the clubhouse right across the way from the unit. Rent is 425 a month and includes everything. I believe my roommate was also saying something about it being cheaper if there are 3 girls not 2. Let me know if you are interested!

I am vaguely interested...however, the "no drinking" thing...why is that? Is that like a housing rule, or just the rule of the house? Because sometimes I like a glass of wine with dinner, I don't get drunk, if thats the concern...

Hi everyone! My name is Kristen and I was just accepted the food and beverage management internship! I have done 2 previous CPs and have lived with up to 7 other people, so I don't mind if there are 3 or 4 of us living in an apartment. I'm hoping to live as close to property as possible, and a furnished or non-furnished apartment would be fine with me! My program goes from June 19th-January 8th, so I'm hoping to live with people who start around the same time. I would prefer female only, but co-ed would also work for me. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and I can't wait to meet you at training!

Hey all, I have not been accepted for a PI (and seeing as I have not heard anything I am assuming I will not get one) BUT I am planning on coming down for the summer to work as a seasonal CM. I plan on coming down the end of June (so right around the time all of your PIs start) and want to work till the end of August/ beginning of September. If anyone is looking for a summer roommate, or know of some summer housing I can get for that time frame that would be GREAT! I am looking for any number of roommates, male or female (I am a female though if that helps), furnished place, and preferably no more than $500/month. I would be interested in Villas @ 7 Dwarfs or Coral Cay, but again I would only be around for the summer.
Again any information would be great! And good luck to everyone else looking for housing.

Hello everyone,
My name is Ashley; I was recently accepted the position for the animal programs Education Presenter PI. I am currently looking for roommate(s), in case I do not get accepted for housing. By the way, anyone who was interested in housing, did anyone receive an e-mail back yet stating if they received housing or not?
If I am not accepted for the housing I am looking for other PI's, preferably other female Education presenters or animal program PIs, no age preference(if anyone is wondering I am 19, will be going on 20 during internship), no smokers and are responsible adults!
I have no idea where to start looking for apartments, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
Thanks!
P.S. Congrats to others who have been accepted!

I put my name in for the housing lottery as well. I haven't recieved any emails other than a basic one that says they will be sending out emails with additional information about the housing if you elected.
But I sent an email out last week asking when we would hear an answer either yes or no. I haven't recieved a response yet but I have been looking at other options on like craigslist.Something cheaper than Disney where I am not stuck with 7 other girls in an apartment. I am sorry that is just alot of estergen in one area.:rotfl:
I have been looking at areas either Downtown, Metrowest or Davenport.
I will be a PI in Recreation Services, they just moved the offices to Blizzard Beach hence why I was looking in Davenport. Very short drive to DAK,WWOS side of property.

I was looking in Davenport. Very short drive to DAK,WWOS side of property.
If you find anything of reasonable price, let me know. I would not mind rooming with you and maybe someone else.
So you are looking in Davenport? I will take a look, too!

Hey everybody! My name is Carlos, I am 25 years old, I finish grad school in May and just accepted the College Education Program Coordinator Professional Internship. I start on June 19 and am looking for a roommate. I added my name to the drawing for intern housing, but if that doesn't work out, I'm fully prepared to find an apartment with a few other people. I'm clean, respectful of others and I don't smoke. I drink socially and I prefer roommates over 21. Sex doesn't matter to me. I've had male and female roommates before...FUN. I'm looking at about a $450 - $550 price range, so if you're interested, hit me up!

Hey everyone! I'd like to recommend Falcon Square apartments at Independence in Winter Garden. When I move down in June, PI or no, I'll be moving in with my boyfriend and roomies there.
Independence is a very nice community, reminds me a bit of Celebration, though no downtown and area to it and it's cheaper.
It's on the back side of Magic Kingdom, and very close to Winter Garden Village. I love it because when we drive home from property we always pass Space Mountain, a pretty surreal drive home. Plus I love that there are lots of fields full of cows, you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere but still very close to Disney.
Falcon Square (http://www.falconsquarejmg.com/#)
Hope this helps, and it's a fantastic option if you know you'll be at MK, very short drive to work.

Hi everyone!
I accepted a Professional Internship in AK Conservation Education Presenter. If I do not get Disney housing, I will be looking for roommate(s). I am 23/female. I would prefer a fully furnished apartment. I am looking for other PIs, preferably female and will be at AK, non-smokers, and who are responsible.
Let me know! And congrats to all who have been accepted!

Ok,
So I told Disney put me in for the lottery and have no idea when they will even get info on that.
I am going to be an Recreation Services PI, and would be interested in living out of Disney housing. I would prefer to live in a co-ed situation with people over 21. If anyone has a place and needs a roommate please PM me.

What is the website URL or Coral Cay that everyone is talking about. I googled Coral Cay and the only thing that I came up with is the resort that you pay by the day. Can someone redirect me to the correct website?

K cool. Gotcha.
Well, I've been shopping around and have been looking at Buena Vista Place and Falcon Square. These places aren't fully furnished, so some added costs are involved in those places.
After looking at Coral Cay, I think I might look more into that place. Considering it's fully furnished, it'll give me more time to save up to buy new furniture for a place of my own after the internship. I refuse to bring all of my stuff from Texas to Florida, hehe.
I'm looking for 2 other roommates, male or female. If you're interested, send me a pm or hit me up on aim. My screen name is vdude02.

You could always try looking at vrbo.com, it's a listing of vacation rental properties through out the country including Florida. There are some listings for like long/short term rentals. You can email the owners directly from the site. Most will get in contact with you or reply to your email within 48 hours. I used it before for a place in Oregon.

We have lived at plantation park for 2 years now. Be very careful about thinking about moving into here because of foreclosure problems.
In the 2 years we have been here, we have had to move twice to a new apartment in the complex because the owners werent paying their mortgages.
We got hit with paperwork from the bank a few months ago saying that this other condo we had recently moved into was being foreclosed as well. The condo owners decided to purchase these units for around 250k-300k+ , speculating that the market would go up and they could resell for a profit. However, Suntrust bank ( the bank that holds the lein to this place ) offered it for sale for only 49k. over 10 reality companies have been over to this complex in the last week, but no one is buying. So beware.
Excellent condos to have, but very unreliable. Over half the condos in this complex are now vacant.

Hello everyone! I am currently interning with Cast Activities and will be extending through January. My roommate will be going back home, which means that I need a new roommate. I live in Alexandria Parc Vue, which is spitting distance from Disney. It's really great and I am hoping that someone on here is looking for a place to live. The rent is $480 + half the utilities. If you guys have any questions, please send me a pm. Congrats to everyone on getting their PI.

Hello EVERYONE!!! I've been in contact with a gentleman who owns a townhouse at Villas at Seven Dwarfs Lane. This place is very similar to Coral Cay. Fully Furnished, Full Kitchen, 4 bedrooms, Washer and Dryer. Located in Kissimmee and about 5 miles from Disney. They have a swimming pool, fitness center, tennis court, more. The cost will be about $500-$550 per person per month. I figured by the time Disney gets back about housing, it would tight trying to find a place if you are not selected and its also about the same price monthly.
If you are interested, male or female, please contact me ASAP, at least by Friday. I am looking for 2 more people. Thanks!!!!

Hey all! I just spent the weekend looking at places in orlando and finally signed a lease at Cumberland Park! its a brand new complex right near I-4 behind the premium outlets. because its new its more pricey but they had lots of great amenities and lots of safety precautions which the parents really liked. also disney is a preferred employee there so me and my roommate got some fees waived and stuff which was really nice and helpful! let me know if you want any info about them. the website is www.cumberlandparkapartments.com
